Reviews for Island Inn
Review 1:Need a little more light along the path to the office and Resturant. A little more choices for the breakfast, would love to see the small boxes of cereal.
Review 2:The area and having a Resturant on site, of course love the beach and the closeness to rooms
Review 3:Reception staff for hotel looked like they were tired of doing their job. (Enthusiasm for your property is infectious). Restaurant was WAY too loud, and not very innovative or memorable (food.) we're in our early 40s and literally could not carry on a conversation.
Review 4:quiet place, great view, clean room and continental breakfast. Pool clean.
Review 5:Traffic in Florida is congested.
Review 6:Everything. The staff at check in made us aware of all their offerings and made suggestions to best take advantage of them. The room had a view of the Gulf, all of 500 ft. away. The restaurant served excellent food in a pleasant upscale atmosphere, complete with a band. The grounds were immaculate. We will be back.
Review 7:There is major road construction going on. Expect lots of traffic and back ups. The hotel staff told us the construction is going to last 10years!
Review 8:The location was out of the hustle and bustle, but close enough to a grocery store or restaurants.
Review 9:- Front desk help was inconsistent. Twice it seemed they were bored and could not be bothered by questions. Other times they were friendly and helpful. - The unit felt claustrophobic. We were in the Kimball, Kitchen Suite. Way too much furniture for the space. King sized bed had about five INCHES clearance on one side of the bed, a little more on the other side. We have stayed in small units many times before. This one simply is not planned well.
Review 10:+ The restaurant - Traditions - on the property. Probably the best restaurant we went to in Sanibel, and it is on the property! A short walk from our unit. + Location of the Inn and its beach is fantastic. + Shell tour and talk by the Museum staffer was excellent.
Review 11:Noseeums an unexpected problem /in our group I was the only one really really bothered; pay attention to buying and using recommended bug sprays or creams diligently
Review 12:Access to beach excellent Breakfast very good and convenient Shelling talk by staff from shell museum good start to visit Dinner at restaurant a treat to do at least once Comfortable beds Very good wifi connection Well kept up historic location
Review 13:The 'no-see-ums' outside, on the beach etc. I understand there was a 'red tide' that caused this, but we were really bothered by them.
Review 14:Breakfast, beach, room comfort. Lanai with table! The Shell talk at 9 a.m. in the morning. Fabulous!
Review 15:My wife was suprised by the lack of pictures on the walls
Review 16:The beach and shelling were great and the restaurant was awesome. Staff was very helpful and friendly
Review 17:The entertainment in the restaurant was .....ummmm..... Interesting. Rather like listening to music in a lift!!!
Review 18:The location is excellent and within walking distance of the beach. The room itself was very clean and well appointed . Breakfast was fresh with plenty of variety
Review 19:Use the spray for no see ums. They will bite!
Review 20:This property is located in an ideal location on the island. Great for shelling with a long beachfront. Free chairs and beach towels available. You can rent bikes on site. Traditions Restaurant has a great Sunset menu for a reasonable price for a 3 course meal. Key Lime pie was delicious! Nice free continental breakfast was adequate and beautifully presented in the dining room.
Review 21:Loved the balcony with our King Suite. Loved the shell tour. The steak at the restaurant was fabulous. Enjoyed dancing to the musical group. Free continental breakfast was nice. Front desk staff very nice.
Review 22:Secluded and beautiful beachfront location yet close to island services, warm welcome with complete guest/sightseer information package, comfortable accommodation, and quality continental breakfast.
Review 23:The front office was extremely helpful. The room was perfect and exactly as requested. Wish we could have stayed longer, but we will return again and request the same room.
Review 24:If I'm being very critical, I didn't find the heated pool very heated but lovely none the less!
Review 25:This place is awesome!! A dream location right on the beach. My room was beautiful, very clean and very comfortable. Top marks to housekeepers who made the room feel like home. We hired bikes - defo a must here!
Review 26:The light continental breakfast was good but not great.
Review 27:The amenities and location were great. The talk about seashells in the mornings was quite interesting followed by a walk on the beach in search of shells. Nice touch! The room was roomy and comfortable with a large deck and beautiful views.
Review 28:The Island Inn was an older place but immaculately clean and very cozy. Right on beach and restaurant right there. Had microwave, coffee pot and little fridge in room.
Review 29:Breakfast should have some hot food and not all pastries.
Review 30:The beach being so close and not having to pay for parking like all other beaches on the island.
Review 31:This is our second stay at Island Inn and we will definitely return in the near future. The rooms are clean, well equipped and so comfortable. The location is excellent and being right on the beach is the added bonus. I would highly recommend this hotel and its friendly staff.
Review 32:Compared to other places we have stayed and paid about the same price per night... The breakfast was VERY POOR !! Most Of the staff was "friendly", but seemed like It was forced ??? Thank You
Review 33:Nice Location
Review 34:Bring a bug repellent if you plan on leaving your room (especially in the mornings and evenings), you will be attacked mercilessly by the local mosquitos (called "no-seeums" by the locals).
Review 35:Breakfast buffet (although modest for US standards) included in price, which is uncommon for hotels in the US, at least in South Florida.
Review 36:- the restaurant was close (September seems to be low season) - at the arrival (7:30 pm) the office was closed and we had to call to get someone bringing us our room keys
Review 37:- very beautiful location and beach - friendly staff
Review 38:Wasn't notified in advance that restaurant was closed for refurbishment for lunch and dinner throughout stay. No-see-um bugs were a big problem for us - my wife and I were both badly bitten despite using protection.
Review 39:Idyllic peaceful location.
Review 40:Nothing, I'd like to nag I'd say the rooms could use a little update as they are a bit older.
Review 41:Relaxes atmosphere and superb location with not too many people around. Staff was nice and willing to help with anything!
Review 42:Had to leave!
Review 43:Location of hotel on island and location of hotel to the beach. Very friendly staff. Loved the quaintness of hotel. Very clean. Would stay again and recommend to others.
Review 44:Just wished that the onsite restaurant was open for lunch and an appetizer and drinks throughout the afternoon.
Review 45:Beach and access, pool, and very nice staff gave a complimentary bottle of champagne for a birthday celebration.!
Review 46:The beds seemed old or were cheap. They charge for house cleaning daily and breakfast daily. The cleaning amounted to changing towels and emptying trash, nothing else unless you complained. The breakfest did say continential, but no cerals, oatmeal, etc. Prior to leaving for the Island Inn I called them and asked What was the reason their rates were so high. The unpleasant woman told me you get daily cleaning and a continential breakfast, somebody has to pay for it. I stood at some low budget hotels in my time that the breakfast has many more options to choose from and house cleaning menat just that. They vacuumed and washed the floors, cleaned the counter tops, bathtubs and toilets. This place did none of that.
Review 47:The location. Not as nice as I thought but could have been mush worse.
Review 48:The location was perfect and the facility was very pretty. The staff was very nice and helpful and the food was great. We can't wait to go back.
Review 49:Waiter at restaurant was rude. We wanted dessert and coffee to celebrate my birthday. He grabbed the menus, said you dont want dinner and walked away. Returned with dessert menus, dropped them on table and walked away. Delivered one dessert and walked away. Didnt fill water, didnt fill coffee. I intercepted him as he was going to another table and asked about the second dessert... Soured what should have been a pleasant evening. Did enjoy music!
Review 50:Staff at registration were frindly, prompt and provided thorough information.
Review 51:The room was clean, however 241 was a little small.
Review 52:The location, the nature walk and information on shelling. The Beach in your frontyard, the staff was incredibly friendly and great customer service oriented.
Review 53:Landscaping just fair. View of gulf was lovely but grounds were not as lush or colorful as neighboring properties. Room smelled a little musty when coming in from outside. Air conditioning noisy.
Review 54:Friendly, warm staff. Able to rent bikes on premises. Free narrated beach walk.
Review 55:The beds were creaky and uncomfortable. The kitchen is limited. Microwave for heating up. But no cooking facilities and limited kitchen utensils. Ideal for preparing lunch but not for full meals.
Review 56:island Inn is a fabulous property. The staff were fantastic. The room decor is beautiful and of course the location is second to none. It is super clean and bright, airy and welcoming. I've spent many years at the Sundial and was not disappointed with Island Inn - very different places to stay but both equally appealing. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 57:Had difficulty with wifi on all my devices. Would've liked a meat option with breakfast.
Review 58:Everything other than Wi-Fi was great. Place was comfortable and beautiful with great facilities
Review 59:We didn't like that the bar closed so early in the evening. We went out for dinner and came back at 9:30pm and everything was closed.
Review 60:We loved the location and the beach was beautiful. Dinner was wonderful. We danced to live music. Enjoyed everything. Very happy with our stay.
Review 61:For the price I think umbrellas should have been free to use.
Review 62:Easy access to beach. Free lounge chairs to grab on your way. View outstanding. Gave me a bike lock to use for week. Immediate help as needed. Bike paths everywhere.
Review 63:The Island Inn is a beautiful respite that feels quiet and private even when completely sold out (which it was when we stayed there). It is perfect located right on the Gulf and each room has its own screened in porch with table and chairs. Our room had a mini fridge and coffee maker, but some rooms have a kitchen. The room was much more spacious than the website depicted. The staff were all incredibly friendly and professional.
Review 64:Nothing.
Review 65:We travelled to Sanibel in July. It was just my wife and I. We were early for the 3pm check in but the very friendly staff said we could park the car and use the facilities, so we hired a bike and had a little cycle ride. On our return we were given our room keys. Which was a delightful apartment style room overlooking the Gulf. The fresh flowers in the room was the cherry on the cake really. Can't recommend highly enough.
Review 66:Nothing bad, but please note the restaurant is closed on Sundays - which is not mentioned anywhere on the website or booking.com. Just FYI.
Review 67:The room was updated, very clean, with new kitchen appliances, huge bathroom, and comfy bed. Staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. Plenty of in-room amenities (hair dryer, safe, hangers, extra towels, dishes for the kitchen, etc) and on site as well (kayaks, shuffleboard, tennis, beach chairs etc). Great value!
Review 68:The staff was very friendly and were more than willing to answer any questions we had. Bicycles were available to rent on the property rather than having to travel to a bike rental store which was very nice. The room was updated and clean. And try the restaurant, the food was really good!
Review 69:Went to use the pool and it was too dirty to swim in. Debris was all over the surface and the bottom also-we opted for the ocean instead.
Review 70:Comfortable room, quiet, friendly staff. Well maintained grounds
Review 71:Leaving.
Review 72:Absolutely beautiful property. Washer, dryer on site. Kitchen in unit was wonderful. Continental breakfast was the best I have ever had. Excellent Restauraunt on property. The place is very clean and well kept. They even had raked the sand in the courtyard into a decorative pattern on the day that we arrived.
Review 73:No see Ums and shells were all very small, but plenty of them. Was hoping for some larger shells, but that is hit or miss.
Review 74:Location was great. Beach was small but nice.
Review 75:Wish we had more time here!!!
Review 76:The quaint resort is very modern, clean and very comfortable. The salt water pool was fun and deep!! The beach was great for shell collecting. The room was clean and modern. All remodeled and very nice! We will definately be back!!!
Review 77:At the time we visited, the beach was very narrow and flooded in some areas at high tide. Would be nice to be able to order hot breakfast items beyond the light continental breakfast included with the room.
Review 78:A nicely landscaped and well maintained property, great outdoor pool, friendly staff, bike rentals available on-site, clean modern well appointed rooms (ours was StarkyLodge - studio), complimentary one hour shelling beach guided walk by a marine biologist. The atmosphere was relaxed and we did not feel like we were at a busy hotel resort, more like a private beach house. Reservations manager resolved a reservation billing issue quickly and fairly.
Review 79:Continental breakfast could use cereal, and real half & half for coffee, bagels to toast instead of 2 kinds of bread. It would be nice if pool were larger and had a hot tub.
Review 80:Pretty room, great views of ocean, not crowded, great housekeeping.
Review 81:Our room wasn't ready for early check in, so the older lady said she would phone as soon as it was. She NEVER phoned. She also was not very happy. The young Indian man was very pleasant!! 5 stars for him.
Review 82:We were in the newer building, very nice, but small suite, could only squeeze by wall to get into the bed. Great light breakfast. The location is the key draw!
Review 83:The "noseeum bugs". When we checked in, the counter was covered with different brands of bug spray to purchase. It would have been nice if we were advised after booking the Inn about the bugs or given a complimentary can. Also, there was nowhere to purchase any snacks.
Review 84:The Inn was right on the Gulf.
Review 85:The Inn advertises breakfast is included, but this was a dismal offering, especially for the price paid to stay at this Inn. No cereals, no eggs, plain bread, a few pastries and a little fresh fruit. We had dinner in the Traditions restaurant, but the live music is so loud you can't have a conversation.
Review 86:The Inn is nicely situated along the beach of the Gulf. It is away from traffic noise and offers a nice screened in porch off the room. Bathroom is quite nice, though the sink faucet didn't work properly (hot on the right and tepid on the left.)
Review 87:The restaurant is separately run, thus annoyingly couldn't put costs on the hotel bill.Access to my side of the bed!
Review 88:Nice space but strange layout which meant one side of the large bed was all but inaccessible.Partial ocean view from the balcony. Swimming pool.
Review 89:The proximity to the beach and the historic value of this property make it a real gem. Loved the screened-in porch. The hotels restaurant (Traditions) is WONDERFUL for dinner. We seldom eat in a hotel's restaurant, preferring to try out several in the area, but we so enjoyed the food at Traditions that we dined there three evenings! Gourmet dinners, live entertainment, great wait staff!
Review 90:Everything! The staff was friendly and provided my husband and I with a great packet of information about the island and all kinda of local shops, coupons, everything you can think ok! My husband and I can't wait to go back to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.
Review 91:I thought the breakfast was poor. Tasteless fruit, below average coffee, need a toaster oven to warm pastries. Average food selection.
Review 92:Location to Ding Darling
Review 93:I would have liked to have had cereals, oatmeal, and rye and whole-wheat bread added to the breakfast menu.
Review 94:Our room was right on the beach with a lovely enclosed patio and a spacious bathroom. It was perfect. The staff was very helpful and the maintenance crew were excellent. I would go back.
Review 95:Mattress & lanai chairs need an upgrade. Breakfast was substandard so we didn't try restaurant. For breakfast adding a toast option, hot tea besides Lipton, and pitchers of milk for tea & coffee would upgrade the breakfast nicely.
Review 96:Location is lovely. All interactions with staff were very positive and helpful. Option to rent recreational equipment at hotel great. Based on our overall experience I would return.
Review 97:Unreliable Wi -Fi in Starky Lodge Cushions for covered porch furniture would be appreciated
Review 98:Extensive information provided by reception staff, very friendly and helpful. Very high cleaning standards and friendly staff.
Review 99:The king bed seemed to have some age to it. The mattress sounded like a cheap one, but we did sleep fine.
Review 100:We liked the proximity to the beach. Not too close, not too far.
Review 101:I was traveling with a friend who can not walk very well. For her to get to the pool or see the beach was impossible because it was all sand.using a walker or pushing a wheelchair in the sand did not work. It would be nice if there was a sidewalk so that I could have used the wheelchair to get her to the pool and an area where she could sit and watch me collect the shells on the beach.
Review 102:The room was exceptionally clean. The decor was wonderful and kitchen well stocked with all basic items needed.
Review 103:Compared with other hotels on our trip this hotel was expensive and in need of modernisation. Breakfast was poor. Room was not always thoroughly cleaned.
Review 104:Lovely location and friendly staff. Easy parking and good access to other parts of Sanibel.
Review 105:Cannot think of a thing!
Review 106:My husband and I were on vacation in October 2014 with another couple. This was our first visit to Sanibel Island and the Island Inn seemed like the type of experience we were looking for. We were not disappointed. The Island Inn has the charm of the Old Inn experience while offering the modern amenities that we have become used to. The location was perfect for exploring the area. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was updated, clean and the beds were very comfortable which is always a plus. We were offered an ample supply of towels. There is a an area to do laundry which we appreciated as Sanibel was just one of our stops on our vacation. The beach is just steps away and there are plenty of chairs for everyone. We happened to have perfect weather so we did use the pool which was clean and well maintained. Again there were plenty of chairs to accommodate guests. All in all I would highly recommend the Island Inn and we will return. Thank you for a lovely time at Sanibel Island!!
Review 107:Small kitchen is not conducive to preparing extensive dinners. Good for bkfst & lunch
Review 108:Location, location, location! Very pleasant staff at all levels Newer, renovated accommodations Already booked for next year!
Review 109:having said that, the noseeums were fierce in the evening but that is not the fault of the Island Inn
Review 110:We went to Sanibel mainly for the beach experience and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The facilities were great- there was nothing not to enjoy!
Review 111:being a mature couple we found everything to our liking
Review 112:General peacefull ambience of hotel beach location and facilities. Staff friendliness and co-operation were great, maid service was exceptional. Second visit and will go again next year hopefully.
Review 113:Our bed wasn't that comfortable, too many lights that still shined once you went to bed. Room not dark enough for sleeping.
Review 114:Location, view, general layout of the inn.
Review 115:Having to leave!!
Review 116:Access to the beach, the private patio, the pool, the availability of any and all beach furniture - enough for everyone and more. Close to some amazing restaurants.
Review 117:Would like to have more variety in the breakfast selection. It was good quality sweet roles, pastry, fruit along with hard boiled eggs. but was all they had.Great coffee and juice.
Review 118:Rooms are very spacious and clean. They do an excellent job of keeping the grounds looking nice. You could walk right from the room down the path and be on the beach.Very nice place to stay a day or week.
Review 119:2Noseeums >but common to area.
Review 120:Room was spotless ,good linens ,cleaned daily.Partial view of ocean. Nice clean porch free kayaks ,bikes ,breakfast. Pool was clean.Excellent staff and housekeeping.NO ROAD NOISE OR LIGHTS.Free beach chairs.
Review 121:We liked the tiled flooring, but it was cold on the feet. Maybe some area rugs would help. Also, the bed was actually lumpy and not too comfortable.
Review 122:We loved the property and its island charm. We loved how quiet it was - it was weekday, so there were very few families. It may be different on weekends. The room was very comfortable and the view of the Gulf was beautiful. We will go back again to enjoy the revitalization again and again.
Review 123:They closed the restaurant that was on site. It was rated in the top 10 for the island. Was looking forward to a great meal there. They could have given a heads up on this.
Review 124:The room was in a very good location in the complex. I had done my homework and I got what I was looking for. I clean, well maintain facility, close to the water and other activities.
Review 125:The "no-see-ums" were pretty bad and we understand it's a part of nature...but that was the only bad thing about our stay.
Review 126:We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, the friendly staff, the cleanliness of the facilities and the location of our room in reference to the beach.
Review 127:Counldn't quite figure out how to keep the sand out of the bed!!! Still loved it.
Review 128:Loved our dinner there at Traditions, amazing food. Loved the entertainment, had a lot of fun dancing.
Review 129:That I was locked up in a motel room because when we arrived we were told by management that the sea turtles overtake the property at sundown. Also was supposed to be in a lodge (Matthews) but was really a motel .room.
Review 130:Wi-Fi was horrible!!!!! They were doing construction on the room next to us on a Saturday morning at 7 am!!!! That kind made me mad
Review 131:Staff.pool.beach.things to do
Review 132:room smelled a little musty one day we were there but it went away quickly. We couldn't figure out what was causing it...
Review 133:the inn was really nice! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was great also. Overall it was a fantastic long weekend away to relax. We would highly recommend!
Review 134:i know you cannot do anything about it. but there should be about six more inches on either side to make it easier to get in and out of.
Review 135:bed was extremely comfortable. great patio to look out over the ocean.
Review 136:Woow, what a lovely place, great room with fantastic view. The Traditions restaurant is top quality. We enjoyed our stay a lot and regret we did not book longer.
Review 137:Just the "no see ums"
Review 138:We loved the closeness to the gulf, also the accessibility to the shops and restaurants. We liked the combination of "old Florida" and the new facilities.
