Reviews for Hostal Republica

Review 1:Very old rooms, not comfortable, dirty and smelly Got charged extra for paying by credit card on top of 13% taxes, very very expensive for such hostel Booked a cab at 3.30pm and got awake at 3.30am by a very rude staff member

Review 2:Location

Review 3:No heating, no hot water for showering. I asked to rent a towel and I was refused one. They offered me to buy one which was a large peice of kitchen towel for 15 bolivianos. The room smelled awful, the tv did not work, it was freezing cold all the time. Breakfast was late everyday and they never had any juice. The staff were so unhelpful, the wifi was barely existent. Everything was horrendous.

Review 4:Wild Rover Hostel was across the road thank god we spent all of our time there instead.

Review 5:The rooms could have done with heating and bathrooms could be modernised. Also colour schemes dark and dull.

Review 6:The helpful staff. The nice courtyard, and good security.

Review 7:Because we didn't have hot water all day, the wifi connection only worked beside the reception... The restaurant was ok but I ordered a capuchino and the price was way to expensive for being a instant capuchino of Nescafé. I don't think the value- price was good in general.

Review 8:Location and the bed was very comfortable

Review 9:Breakfast was included in the stay fee but they only serve a price of toast with butter/jam and drink. You need to pay for an another drink. Music from the restaurant is too loud all night and I couldn't sleep well. I asked them to turn volume down a little but they didn't.

Review 10:Staff is generally ok.

Review 11:The wifi was so weak it was useless.

Review 12:Staff was very accommodating about moving us to a different room and being helpful about an unexpected schedule change. The location is very convenient for sightseeing and walking from the bus station. The cafeteria is very handy for an inexpensive meal.

Review 13:Non-useable shower Sheets and bathroom not clean Room placed all the way in the back court yard, and not in the cosy areas shown on the website First meeting with reception not very hospitabel

Review 14:Central placement

Review 15:Unfriendly staff, dirty rooms, location far from any attractions or good resaurants, unfriendly staff, dirty shared bathrooms, and did I mention the unfriendly staff...

Review 16:Pleasent enough courtyard

Review 17:Towels moist and never changed. Internet not functioning reliably.

Review 18:Staff was helpful.

Review 19:Very nice english speaking staff, perfectly located, nice old building, bar/restaurant with good food

Review 20:Not recommended. No towel for shared bathroom. Not comfortable.

Review 21:The standard of the bathroom.

Review 22:Staff were very helpful. The building is nice.

Review 23:WiFi is too slow and only available in some areas.

Review 24:Its a cozy place, you can feel a good vibe from the staff.

Review 25:Bathrooms could have been cleaned more often and showers could have been hotter.

Review 26:Quiet laid back atmosphere

Review 27:1st they charged us double what we had booked using booking dot com. 2nd they put us in a double bed slightly bigger than a single until we complained. 3rd When they moved our room. Theyforgot to mention that bfast wasn't included in the change. 4th the kitchen staff are crack heads and actually set the kitchen on fire at about midnight. We all had to get out of our rooms. However. It was other guests that woke us. Not staff and at no stage did anyone guve us an apology. The staff are so unfriendly. We didnt see them smile in 4 days. They are unhelpful and dont know answers to questions about their own place. I asked if we could order a packed lunch for the following day. Reply 'I dont know' after finally ordering our lunch. When we went to pick it up in the morning it was sitting on the reception bench and not in the fridge. I asked how long it had been there and the cleaner said it was there all night. Then it took me 20mins to get my money back after talking to 4 different staff. im sure some people had a pleasant stay but we hated it. Even when we tried to be nice. The staff we horrible and bitter. the actual hostel itself is ok. But the way its run is awful.

Review 28:The best thing was checking out and not having to ever go back

Review 29:Breakfast was awful, one day we didn't even get it as there was no one to cook it. Wifi is awful.

Review 30:The garden/courtyard area and it's close to the other big hostels such as loki and only a 5-10 walk to otherside of central city such as witches market area.

Review 31:Wifi slow at peek hours, but I guess that's most places when they pay for a cheaper option (my opinion)

Review 32:The hotel is opposite a party hostal, which is great as I like to sleep when I go bed!!!!!! Clean tidy, showers nice and hot, staff helpfull price excellent ( it is Bolivia) lol. And please try the stake (but ask for it rare if u like medium rare) it's again amazing..... Still can taste it in my mouth, the lady who runs TGIF resturant, (so sorry for not remembering you name) she is the best thing at republica.... Trust me she is ace. Ow and the tv has HBO!!!

Review 33:Our stay was unfortunately a little disappointing. We ate dinner at the restaurant and our order was incorrect twice then came out cold and the lady in the kitchen was very rude when we asked if we could have it heated. I think she was frustrated with the volunteers in the kitchen however this was no reason to be rude to customers. The toilet in our room also leaked and when we asked if we could change to another room because of the smell and hygiene the staff were very rude and unaccommodating, we did finally change rooms however felt like we were being a nusance. I have never written a complaint about anywhere before but was sadly disappointed with this place.

Review 34:Good location

Review 35:Breakfast is very basic if you don't paid more. I booked a room with share bathrooom and toilet , when we get there it was like a jell with window , dark , no ventilation ... I was obliged to change my booking for a room with ensuite 15 dollars more by day... .so 45 dollars more for 3 days!!! not fair!!!!

Review 36:the situation , the room with own toilet and bath.

Review 37:Very cold in the evening. Very slow internet. The kitchen was closed during the day, when I needed hot water, I had to go to the hostel in front. The hostel is united with the tour agency, that provides good service. The lady at the office told us to contact staff in the hostel when we arrive in the morning to get a tour the same day. She said that staff calls someone in the agency and everything would be organised. When we did it, staff at the hostel told us, that they are separate and he can't contact anyone, so we didn't get any tour that day...

Review 38:Nice clean rooms. Private and common shower both warm and clean. Good continental breakfast.

Review 39:the staff was generally rude and expecially Claudia Villa.they did a mess with the bill and rate exchange and ask me to pay in two separate moments.. in the end i finish to pay 10 bols more than real price...

Review 40:Avoid like the plague! The place is ageing badly. We booked a triple and were given the choice of an upstairs or downstairs room. The downstairs room (103) smelled like kerosene, I couldn't even enter the room. The upstairs room which we had to take (203), has mouldy old blood stains on the wall paper. No windows, just a dark box with a door which opened up into the corridor right next to the shared bathroom. We were even told that "towels weren't included in our booking" even though it was $38, which is ridiculously expensive by Bolivian prices. The "free breakfast" isn't available unless you ask for it, you go to the cafeteria and they give you a breakfast menu, if you order from that you need to pay. The free breakfast only includes 2 pieces of toast and tea anyway. We went for a short walk and found a much better place for 1/4 the price!

Review 41:Breakfast. We still don't know what other than water the "coffee" actually is!

Review 42:Very simple yet comfortable. The history of the place is a great added value.

Review 43:Furniture is a bit old

Review 44:- Good Q/P - Nice room (ours was with private bathroom) - Structure of the building elegant and adorably old fashion - Helpful staff

Review 45:The bed sheets and pillow cases look very old. I am not sure if itwas dirty though. I just needed to sleep, so I got my own towelaround my face.

Review 46:The booking confirmation was accurate, English speaking staff werevery friendly, the secured gate was helpful for me to sleep, Flora atthe restaurant was kind when I was getting the altitude sickness, theoffice stored my big backpack when I was gone for a couple of days, the Internet around the office was fast enough, hot shower wasamazingly great!

Review 47:Uncomfortable pillows Slow internet, but fairly typical for country

Review 48:Good communal areas Hot powerful showers Allowed us to check in at 6.30am Quiet Helpful and friendly staff Good location

Review 49:The showers smelled kinda funky (from the drain), and my room smelt like old cigarette smoke from being outside the only are that people could access wifi from. Do not book with Tour Republica for Uyuni.l (Salt Flats) Bus company was terrible, transfer to Uyuni (Salt Flats Company) did not pick me up. And transfers were all late.

Review 50:The reception staff were very helpful with information for my adventuring around the city.

Review 51:There was a problem and the staff wasn't helpfull and try to removethe reasponsabilty. They didnt let me talk to the manager and didnt wantto make up for the mistake

Review 52:Nice rooms, it was cleaned every day, nice breakfast

Review 53:I prebooked my room and was told breakfast was included ,but ended uppaying for it the first morning and nobody turned up the second morningto open for breakfast, the staff seemed not to care and my friend gotbadly bitten from bed bugs ,so avoid this places.

Review 54:Bathroom and lack of hot water from time to time, but thats the way itis in Bolivia

Review 55:Very nice location, close to the Colonial Area, charming courtyard andnice international crowd. Busy pub in a hostel just on the other side ofthe street (Wild Rover) - you can join any time but when you are tiredyou can go back to Republica and enjoy the silence. Helpful staff thatspeaks perfect English

Review 56:The staff were nice and the room was clean, if a little cold. I really liked the layout of the hostel as the sun was always shinning in the courtyard.

Review 57:Not a great deal to do in the place and you can{t bring in your own beer, signs up saying so, but the cafe/bar shut at 9.30

Review 58:Stayed for 4 nights, the room was quiet and good, clean. The staff were helpful and the breaky was good, Great for sitting in the court yards and relaxing

Review 59:They lost our booking, resulting in us having to pay more! I was sickand couldn't be bothered arguing. The WiFi only works near receptionand not in your room

Review 60:Staff were nice. Room was comfortable and clean. Hot water worked welland nice and quiet.

Review 61:Matresses were terribly uncomfortable, bathroom was stinky with too much mold in shower and breakfast was inadequate.

Review 62:Staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 63:Most of the staff looked forced to work and barely cracked a smile.

Review 64:Good location, clean and comfortable beds

Review 65:Wi-fi not very good

Review 66:Plenty of space in the centre area, great staff in the cafe, rooms were clean and comfortable

Review 67:Great place, good location.

Review 68:The restaurant was horrible. Don't even bother with the free breakfast.

Review 69:Comfy beds and good location.

Review 70:Terrible breakfast. Cold rooms.

Review 71:Hot shower. TV in room.

Review 72:breakfast was better than usual, but still not really good

Review 73:It was very calm, I had WiFi in my room, the shower had hot water

Review 74:Cafe not open all day, room furniture very old

Review 75:Location, private courtyards to relax

Review 76:The bathroom was dirty, it could be better looked after.

Review 77:A very cozy place with beautyful patios very central located

Review 78:No kitchen as stated, no hot water facilities.

Review 79:Wifi didn´t reach my room and worked poorly in the rest of the areas

Review 80:Nice buildings, with patios and a small garden
