Reviews for Creole Gardens Guesthouse and Inn
Review 1:The staff was excellent and very friendly, our receptionist gave us fantastic recommendations for restaurants, bars and other entertainment. The breakfast was great and well worth getting up early for. The location was a block away from the trolley tracks aND the dog park. My wife and I are already planning our trip back to Creole Gardens
Review 2:The breakfast could be of a little higher quality, however it could be that we had such fabulous cuisine to compare it to. But it was a "C"
Review 3:It is a quaint, and hip uptown B&B that offered a very Romantic atmosphere. The room is modest in size but finely appointed & the space is used well. The location is perfectly centered in NOLA
Review 4:TV didn't work but you don't come to NOLA to watch TV.
Review 5:Friendly staff, great southern breakfast, great restaurants, bars and clubs nearby, trolley nearby, great location, free parking. Wold definitely come back.
Review 6:To be honest, the beds are not the most comfortable.
Review 7:The vibe was great and the staff was very inviting. Queen Annie played vinyl records for us Friday night and made breakfast the next morning. Pretty spectacular if you as me. This place is a little gem.
Review 8:The bed was interesting... I slept well though.
Review 9:We LOVED the decor and atmosphere of Creole Gardens. The antiques really added to the experience. Anne is truly a New Orleans treasure we met a friend that we'll never forget. And oh! the bathtub was phenomenal lol I'm a big girl and I fit just fine in that old claw foot tub!!!
Review 10:Husband didn't like the stairs. Too bad!
Review 11:We had a lovely mansion room. Easy access to St Charles street Car to garden den district and French quarter. Great oysters at Samuels Blind Pelican! Great breakfast at creole gardens!
Review 12:I could hear the people upstairs packing, I think, as they were walking in the room upstairs at 2:30 in the morning.
Review 13:It is close to my family's home. It is some of the flavor of old New Orleans
Review 14:The bed could be more comfortable
Review 15:The character and atmosphere was very authentic and welcoming. It feels like you are in New Orleans rather than a hotel that could be anywhere, and AMAZING breakfast.
Review 16:Our room was the furthest from the office and so the WIFI was spotty. But this turned out to be good in a way because it forced me out into the interior courtyard to be close to the router and thereby I got to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the courtyard at night.
Review 17:The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was ideal, near the street car line. The property was lovely and had everything that we needed. When we needed an ice bucket, the owners provided this. The interior courtyard was relaxing and attractive. It was quiet at night out in the courtyard and the clear sky revealed a bright moon.
Review 18:Needed a desk or someplace to operate a computer from the room. Also noted a "scream" somewhere in the water piping - seemed to dissipate when I flushed the toilet, but would come back at the most inopportune times - like the middle of the night.
Review 19:Location, breakfast, staff
Review 20:I really think it was the room that made the experience not so good. We had room number B6. There was a queen size bed with a twin bed next to it. It appeared the room had been changed from another room type prior, as we saw several nail holes where pictures used to be etc. There really needs to be a chair in the room it was awkward not to have any place to sit other than the bed. Also the bathroom was very uncomfortable. It felt like we were staying at an aunts house that didn't have very much money. The shower controls did not work it was hard to find thd setting to get the water just right. Also the shower curtain was too low and very cheap plastic and the curtain hooks did not slide easily over the bar. Also there was an area to hang clothes but the curtain rod they had hanging in front of that kept falling so we had to just take it down. There was no vanity or anywhere to set your items on the bathroom other than the bed in the other room. Also the front door was very difficult to open you had to throw your shoulder into it to get it to open. And the lighting was also very awkward as well too bright in the bathroom with no dimming or low light options. The toilet was very difficult to flush it would take several times to get it to fully flash, but I kind of understand that because the building is so aged. However, if I had a lot to flush it would create a very awkward situation sharing the room with someone if you know what I mean.
Review 21:Very clean. Staff very nice. Breakfast good. Nice courtyard. The place is close to the trolley which is just one block over, that made it very easy to get to Canal Street which is the edge of the French Quarter. There are also a couple of juice bars & organic food cafes across the street from Creole Gardens. That was something I love so to me it was very important.
Review 22:We stayed 4 nights in the Creole Gardens Guesthouse and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The guesthouse is full of character and lovely period features and is located in a great location on a quiet street. It is located close to a streetcar stop so easy and quick to get to the city centre. There are also a few restaurants located nearby which was convenient. And the guesthouse is also not too far from Magazine Street (About a 25 minute walk at our leisurely pace). Our stay was made even more special by the friendly and hospitable staff. The breakfasts were delicious and we always looked forward to seeing what was on the menu every morning. If we are fortunate enough to make it back to New Orleans, we would without a doubt stay here again.
Review 23:I liked everything about our stay. We stayed in one of the cottages in back. My friend & I especially enjoyed the courtyard. The neighborhood was nice. We ate at two local restaurants that were less than a block away. The streetcar was right down the street. The staff were very helpful & freely gave suggestions as to where to eat or drink. I cannot wait until my next stay.
Review 24:We will request a grand floor cottage in the future, as the stairs, in the rain, seemed a little daunting...
Review 25:All the staff, as well as visitors, were fun and helpful. Weather did not cooperate for this Halloween Weekend visit, but staff was helpful with suggestions, calling cabs, etc.
Review 26:This place is just so NOLA it is colourful fun friendly and very comfortable and so convenient for the tramway to go into the French quarter in about ten minutes or further into the beautiful Garden district. It was just so much fun, so clean and very warming. Great place to stay in NOLA.
Review 27:the people were very friendly, the food was great, location was perfect, loved the outside courtyard for enjoying the evening after a long day of exploring New Orleans.
Review 28:Quiet, peaceful oasis when we needed a break from the excitement. Definitely had a Nola vibe, colorful, quirky decor. Loved the courtyard with fountain and comfortable seating. Amazing hot breakfast, different each day. Friendly helpful staff. Queen Anne spinning R&B 45's on Friday night was a treat. Will definitely go back.
Review 29:The shower was extremely small and there was no desk or work area (my husband works wherever he goes!)
Review 30:loved the historic house and the area. Breakfasts were excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. The outside patio was also very nice and we loved having a private balcony off our room.
Review 31:High above the floor was a window through which an outside lamp was shining into the room, impairing the sleep. Installing a curtain would solve the annoyance.
Review 32:I appreciated the friendliness of the staff and the personally prepared breakfast (omelette) by the very kind and vivid lady from the kitchen. The room was cozy even with a former fireplace.
Review 33:This is not to be a bad thing, but one of the guests put it accurately, shabby chic. The rooms were a little sparse and small, but it works. We were in the slave quarters. It would have been nice to have a cushiony chair in the room and someplace to place toiletries in the bathroom.
Review 34:The Creole Gardens was a unique place to stay. The location was great, convenient and quite. The breakfast was made to order and very good. The courtyard was used to make new friends and unwind after an eventful day, we loved meeting the guests. The staff was very helpful and they had parking.
Review 35:Can't think of a thing!
Review 36:The. Ambience & the friendly staff. They were great. The food was delicious & the location was close to everything.
Review 37:Staff great. very informative and friendly. Hotel so cute in real New Orleans fashion. Added to the whole experience. Took more pictures of the hotel that I did around town. Loved having the parking. Bed so comfortable. easily walkable to many areas and very close to Trolley.
Review 38:There wasn't nearly enough shelf space in the bathroom, and the sink wasn't cleaned the whole time we were there.
Review 39:Loved the breakfasts! They're served in the charming dining room. The kitchen staff are all professional, fun, welcoming, and great cooks. Andie, the concierge, was very helpful, giving us great tips about the best places to go. The head of the kitchen, Ann, doubles as a DJ on Friday nights at the "Roadhouse" next door. Hurricanes are $5, and "Black Queen Ann" spins 45s from the 60's. We danced for two hours and had a ball. Everyone there is a gem; Ann is a diamond.
Review 40:The metal stairs could be tough for elders and not for disabled, breakfasts were ok but repetitive, and while we liked its funky style, its not for those looking for elegance. Bedseets like sandpaper but otherwise comfy bedding.
Review 41:The proximity to the streetcar, restaurants, museums, and walking distance to the Vieux Carre were great. ThebFri night dance disc spin, and drinks and soup in the warehouse and courtyard were casual, easy access fun. The staff were helpful.
Review 42:My grandson and I stayed here for one night. I found this facility to be unique and different, and one that probably appeals better to those that like alternative lodging. The room was "average" in many ways; the air conditioner made a loud noise when running, the room had a moldy smell, and the old bed frame squeaked with every move. Unlike some other reviewers, I found the staff to not be overly helpful.
Review 43:The good points are: location is good and the price was lower. I would not stay again, but I can see where others might value this funky environment in a urban area.
Review 44:Blackout curtains didn't black out. Housekeeping was adequate but should have wiped the counter. No soap dish.
Review 45:Staff is terrific. Breakfast is great. Location great. Had a wonderful time in a very interesting place with great history.I
Review 46:We loved Miss Annie the Chef. She was amazing and so friendly. Loved sitting in the courtyard by the fountain. Keith was so helpful on places to eat and things to see. We had so much fun!
Review 47:First time to New Orleans, loved the colors and architecture of building and how they have blended in multiple buildings. Very friendly and helpful staff with great knowledge of area. Very nice breakfast. Would have loved to be able to stay longer.
Review 48:There was no tv remote, iron, or phone in the room.
Review 49:I liked the location. It was only a block away from the trolley. There was free onsite parking. The free breakfast was delicious.
Review 50:We doubles the time of our staying, that's how much good is this place. The staff is open, nice ans helpful, the breakfast is great and Anne the lady in the kitchen give you a feeling of home. About the location: this is the area you want to be if you bisit NOLA and have a car, the parking is free, the street car is beyond the street, most valuable location.
Review 51:Didnt like the Bordello room or the shabby sheik look. Suffering fromcopd, the second floor hike with suitcases was hard for us. Wish we hadmore communication with what was available for the money we spent.
Review 52:The historic value of this building. Staff was friendly and knowledgableof the area.
Review 53:It would have been great to have a fridge in the room, but that's the tiniest quibble!
Review 54:We stayed at the Creole Gardens for three days while moving to New Orleans, before we were able to get into our own place. What a great welcome to town! The staff was wonderful, we loved the classic NOLA feel, and it was very dog friendly. Also, the breakfasts were fantastic and it was in the perfect location for going uptown or down. A+!
Review 55:It was more expensive than others we stayed at, but probably because it's in New Orleans.
Review 56:We loved the friendliness of the staff, the fabulous freshly cooked breakfast and the colourful rooms and communal buildings. I also loved the main house features and artworks.
Review 57:Stairs to second floor were glossy and gleamingly clean (wonderful wood floors)but extra caution was required for safety's sake - seemed slippery.
Review 58:Loved the spaciousness of the room and bathroom and that there was a small refrigerator. The mattress was nice and firm.
Review 59:Problems with the wi-fi, which have probably been remedied by now.
Review 60:We stayed in a King room in the mansion and that was absolutely delightful. Cannot comment on the queen rooms. Everyone was so friendly and helpful with a lovely breakfast served with a smile each morning. Convenient location. Free parking and very close to regular public transport. A truly wonderful New Orleans experience. Thank you!! Karyl, Australia.
Review 61:Lovely place! Very quaint and homey. The made-to-order hot breakfast was wonderful and the staff were all so sweet. It really felt like home away from home. I would definitely stay here again if traveling to the area again!
Review 62:Not real clean, water pressure was bad. Really dark hallways leading up to room. Skinny steps. Not for someone like my husband that has back and knee issues. Bed was not very comfortable.
Review 63:Location was good, considering where we were going for our entertainment. Price was pretty good.
Review 64:The rooms had some odd things missing or neglected. For example, the curtains did not block out the light from outside, and the shade fixtures were needing maintenance. In addition, the shower could have used a soap rack. In the end, it isn't a perfect place, however, it is definitely a product of New Orleans--a little quirky and a lot of charm.
Review 65:All staff, including grounds keeping, were all very friendly and very helpful. Keith, the manager, got us set in the right direction since it was our first time in New Orleans. Great location for Garden District, close to French Quarter, and very close to our Carnival port.
Review 66:I loved the wonderful people I met here..! During breakfast you get a chance to start the day with lovely conversations with fellow travelers or long-time residents of the hotel, and definitely with the super friendly staff....! AND amazing breakfasts - do not miss it...!!!! Excellent location, and with a complimentary parking spot.. Overall, it was an awesome Nola experience...! :)
Review 67:The price and the internet (or lack thereof.)Creole Gardens was cute and quirky, but it was more like a hostel than a hotel and it was priced as a hotel (to compare - it was more expensive than the 5-star hotel we had stayed in in Nashville 2 nights prior). Second - the internet in our room was not working the entire time we were there. I understand it was hit by lightning 2 weeks ago, and that's unfortunate, and nothing they could do about it. However, that was two weeks ago, and I'm really not sure why it still wasn't working two weeks later? We complained several times, and only after the third person we spoke to did someone tell us to try a different network, in the dining area. So, we were not impressed, and the fact that we were without internet for the first day had a severely negative impact on our stay in NOLA. (Further note - we did get reimbursed $20 for complaining about the internet - but a) that still did not make the price reasonable, and b) that's a nice gesture, but what we really were complaining about was the lack of internet, and it didn't seem to be getting fixed.)
Review 68:It was cute - it had charm. Staff was friendly.
Review 69:The breakfasts were fantastic, hot food cooked to order. The menu changed with a different choice each day - pancakes, biscuits and gravy, bacon and eggs.
Review 70:They had a lightning strike and as a result wifi was very slow and TV I the room didn't work. Not a major problem as I wasn't in much and had roaming. Plus they have a communal computer if you really need Internet access.
Review 71:Everything else. Rooms were very clean, bed and pillows were super comfy. The rooms and the guesthouse itself was decorated beautifully. The staff were amazing and so friendly I ended up staying a further 2 nights. Every few night they had DJ Annie filling the courtyard with some truly soulful sounds. If you want the true NOLA experience this is where you want to be. I can't wait to come back
Review 72:The television not working and lack of wifi in your room.
Review 73:Friendly staff, charming personality, extremely pet friendly and a good breakfast to start off your day.
Review 74:The staff, atmosphere, location, bed, breakfast, meeting the other guests. Especially Quen Annie DJ-ing on Friday night. This was not our first time staying at the CG and it will not be our last either!
Review 75:The dog barking upstairs was annoying.
Review 76:Fantastic place to stay with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The garden is relaxing and peaceful, but the location is easily accessible and close to restaurants and the streetcar line. And, the breakfast was delicious!!
Review 77:I hope they put small fridges in every room one day.
Review 78:One of the best hotel experiences of my life. Wonderful room, friendly staff, and an incredible breakfast!!! Can't wait to go back.
Review 79:The staff was so very accommodating and friendly. We loved out themed room and the breakfast was delicious. I would definitely stay here again when in NOLA.
Review 80:Nothing.
Review 81:The Staff, Room,Breakfast and Wifi where amazing!..So friendly and welcoming I felt like a friend rather than a customer. The guesthouse had the colourful/decor I was looking for and I loved my stay at this fabulous place..highly recommended. Location is on a quiet street which is a 2 minute walk from food, bars and the streetcar into the French Quarter..Perfect!
Review 82:They had lighting to strike the T V and we had no T V. But we didn't really miss it.
Review 83:The cook was so nice and talk to us and fixed a wonderful breakfast. It was like being at home
Review 84:Had problems getting wifi to work most of the time
Review 85:The food was totally awesome and the staff was great. Nothing to really like it was all loved. just need to put a swing and pool in the back and they'd be over the top :)
Review 86:I've been to New Orleans several times over the past 20 years and this wS the best place I've ever rested while visiting! The room was comfy and the free breakfast was the best food I've ever eaten in New Orleans!!
Review 87:The only thing was the pics are misleading. It is an adorable place, really is, however we thought we were getting a larger room, like in thepics, w/tub and fridge, but no. Room was very small with no seatingarea like the pics, no tub, no fridge and microwave, even after I calledahead, and guy told me we would have a fridge, but we didn'T.
Review 88:Homemade cooking. Breakfast was amazing. The staff was wonderful.
Review 89:No bad experience.
Review 90:Location is great if you don't want to stay in the middle of the action and noise in the French quarter. But it's a 15-minute streetcar ride away from all the attractions. Breakfast is delicious and varied every day. The staff is friendly, warm, helpful and pleasant. Exceptionally clean and lovely decor--old time charm. The hotel has a quirky design and is quiet at night. We loved it!
Review 91:Long walk (40 minutes+) from French Quarter. Trams were off on St Charles Ave when we were there. No coffee in rooms but a communal dining room with facilities open all day.
Review 92:Great, quirky room that was a joy to stay in. Friendly, helpful staff. Beautiful courtyard that's perfect for reading in. Right next to St Charles Ave for trams into town or Garden District. Beautiful porch to sit on in the evening.
Review 93:The fact that we had to leave.
Review 94:The staff was friendly and helpful; the location was great, the rooms were sweet and clean - like walking back through time.
Review 95:Our room could use a touch of renovation, paint was peeling on the wall in a few places, but everything was very clean and well presented.
Review 96:Charming grounds, awesome staff, and just a block from the St Charles streetcar which will take you all over New Orleans for $3 per day. The courtyard at Creole Gardens was an unexpected surprise, great place to hang out in between excursions, sip on some wine, and chat with other travelers from all over the globe. Having on-site parking that didn't cost an arm and a leg was an additional bonus. Breakfast staff was amazing!
Review 97:Nothing bad except for one roach in the bathroom BUT it is the south, in the summertime. They are everywhere so if you can't deal or can't grab a shoe to smash the creeps or don't have the sense to realize that they are abundant especially in our southern heated states, then don't visit the south!
Review 98:The staff is amazing and attentive, the free FRESH creole breakfast is homemade by Miss Anne who also DJs her vinyl Motown records on Friday nights! Went for a girls weekend and we love this place! Clean, friendly, historic, cozy, great location (St.Charles streetcar one block away!)
Review 99:Breakfast was not great. Poached eggs should really not be done in the microwave as they are then hard and rubbery. Overall the food was average but with a little attention to detail could be great.
Review 100:The character of the place is wonderful, staff are super helpful, location is excellent very close to the street car station and a short drive to the French Quarter. Room was great. Lots of great restaurants around the area. So much better than staying at a hotel/motel chain. Real New Orleans feel.
Review 101:Nothing at all, this place is great! Especially for its cost!
Review 102:Everyone there is so nice and accommodating, the other guests were super nice too! The breakfast is made to order, no continental disappointment here!
Review 103:All was ok, but location is quietly far away from french quarter, it is close to the tram stop but if you go walking are 25 minutes and at tje night is better take the tram
Review 104:Staff, cleaness, the infrastructure and the forniture
Review 105:If there's any negative I could say about our stay is the beds weren't the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on. That being said they aren't bad just not great
Review 106:The atmosphere was great! Had the new Orleans feel that we were wanting. It was in a great location 10 minute street car ride to bourbon and when you were ready to wind down at night you can leave the night life and be right back at a quiet and clean place. The staff was very helpful and breakfast was awesome! I would definately go back.
Review 107:Everything was good nothing was bad we would love to stay with them again
Review 108:People were nice and friendly. Breakfasts were wonderful. They made us feel at home. Our room was huge, bed comfortable
Review 109:Have no complaints
Review 110:Room was very comfortable with all that one requires. Very nice court yard to sit and relax. Excellent breakfast Staff very helpful and an excellent knowledge of eating places and things to do and see Location, close to transport
Review 111:Perfect location and wonderful staff. Just a short trolley ride to the quarter. Walking distance to magazine street shops. This is a great place to unwind.
Review 112:The wifi is iffy, the bed was pushed against the wall, making it hard to get in and out. Also they had some sort of a loud function one night, hard to sleep with the noise.
Review 113:This b and b has it's own off street parking lot,and is a quick walk from all public transportation and quite a few restaurants. Also the cooked breakfast is AMAZING.
Review 114:New Orleans in warm weather is hot and humid but the inside of my room was clammy. It was enough that all my clothes felt literally damp. Definitely overpriced at more than $1,000 for a 3 night stay
Review 115:I very much enjoyed the short walk to St.Charles Street. The room accomdations had a very "New Orleans" feel.
Review 116:The Courtyard was really pretty and comfy to hang in. The staff was super friendly and very helpful with ideas for where to eat and where you could go to listen to live music comfortably when a woman traveling alone. Breakfast was to die for :) My room was large and comfortable. I only wish I had been there on a Friday night for Miss Annie's music. My next stay will in NO will definitely be here and hopefully on a Friday night. It is within 10 minutes walking distance to the National World War 2 Museum (which took me a day in a half to see all of) It is 2 blocks from the trolley stop. And a $10 cab ride to Frenchmen St. and The Spotted Cat. (Frenchmen St. is where to go over 30 and female alone) Bourbon St. too many kids partying.
Review 117:Keith went above and beyond from the moment I contacted him after booking our stay. We also had my in-laws stay there including my mother-in-law who needed some TLC in the food and accessibility departments. The entire staff was non stop excellent. We spent part of one evening showing slides as part of the graduation festivities in the common room. Breakfast is yummy and plentiful and there's even a music space for Saturday evenings. We would definitely return.
Review 118:I liked the friendly staff, the individually prepared hot breakfast, different every day, the original art, the water gardens in the courtyard, and the sense of history in the floorboards, statues, and furnishings.
Review 119:Staff were lovely and very helpful. The hotel itself was not super close to the centre, but 10 mins on the street car takes you right there, and its a much quieter neighborhood. Loved it.
Review 120:Air conditioner was a little noisy and seemed to cycle on and off very frequently.
Review 121:The location on St. Charles is great with either a street car ride into the French Quarter or a short walk to the Garden District. Staff (Both Barbs, Annie) were very friendly. Room was nice decorated, comfortable and good value for the money. Liked the outdoor courtyard.
Review 122:Felt like we were in old New Orleans. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The breakfasts were individually prepared and were delicious. Only needed to walk one short block to St Charles St to catch the trolley. Loved the ro and the tropical courtyard.
Review 123:We loved everything about our stay at the property. It has a soul, the staff is just great and helpful. We would definitely stay there next time we're in NO.
Review 124:The staff that was preparing or getting ready to serve breakfast was extremely rude. I could go into what happened but I won't. Point being I've never been spoken to so poorly in my life. Our room was ok. The ceiling fan sounded like it was going to fall off the ceiling. The window unit kept shutting off due to needing a clean filter. I don't think I would go back again.
Review 125:I liked the feel of the older style bed and breakfast. It wasn't your typical hotel. The courtyard was nice and very peaceful.
Review 126:Pet friendly quarters are great. We love dogs, but the unhappy canine guest below our room kept us up the night before we left.
Review 127:We liked that we could park the car and either walk or ride the streetcar to everything we wanted to tour.
