Reviews for Hollander Hotel - Downtown St. Petersburg

Review 1:Free Wi-Fi but could stand upgrading. Connectivity dropped several times daily over weekend.

Review 2:Friendly staff, walking distance to main downtown area. Breakfast not included but prices and food in their restaurant was good. Bed comfortable. Good to have free parking on site. Veranda along the front was nice - couches, chairs and also tables for dining.

Review 3:Never any dislikes, except ice can only be obtained from front desk.

Review 4:Easy to find. Tremendous staff. Very nice accommodations. Quick access to beaches, downtown, and US 275 and 75.

Review 5:1. QUALITY OF FINISH - the paint job is terrible and unprofessional, particularly evident in the bathroom. 2. NOISY - loud party outside the cheap single-pane windows. 3. DIRTY - especially in corners of bathroom. 4. PARKING - terrible, though that might be due to Sunday business. With no room in the three connected parking lots, we put our car on the street. 5. CONDITION - yes, it was "built in 1933" - but needs repairs of both functional and cosmetic items to compete in 2016.

Review 6:Food at connected cafe was excellent. Helpful staff (Nick, Brian). While many hotels offer views of the beach, park, or mountains, our $170 room had a great view of a halfway house (or board & care?) with all that entails. It was ugly but not boring, and seemed to be a convenient source for guests who buy or sell drugs.

Review 7:Rooms very tired, bathroom well below what we would expect. Bath had no steel plug hole just a hole! Chipped tiles.

Review 8:Quirky, bar and restaurant staff very good.

Review 9:Thoroughly enjoyed this welcoming little hotel with really nice interior, good food and a great selection of craft beer. Easy walk to the central arts district, yet far enough away from the various music venues to get a peaceful night's sleep.

Review 10:G.M., Nick Herring and his entire staff go out of their way to attend to your every need. There must be something in the water at the HOLLANDER, everyone is so nice and happy. It is truly our home away from home.

Review 11:I'm still thinking ....

Review 12:Quaint, convenient, free parking, delicious food, cozy restaurant, walking distance to Tropicana Stadium, very helpful and cordial staff

Review 13:We stayed one night. The location is great and we used the hotel's free shuttle to the restaurant we where we had dinner. This is a old hotel that has been updated, however still has the old hotel feel. You can feel the history in this hotel. We ate at the hotel's Sunday brunch buffet and that was worth the money. The staff was very friendly.

Review 14:The view out of our windows were trash cans (literally two different windows, two different trash cans). We were watching someone take a shower in a bucket outside of our window on Saturday night which really made the $120.00/night room more enjoyable. On Sunday we gave the man food, figured I would stop being part of the issue and be more of the resolution. The other "complaint" is the mentality of the bartender (inside) of "I may or may not close in the near or distant future" for the hotel, they need to pick a time and stick with it. Setting expectations allows the guests a clear understanding of what is going on and provides consistency. We never knew if we could stay and drink or if we needed to go down the block and give our money to another bar. The inconsistency became really annoying. As well as her attitude when the attempt for another drink was made, not knowing when she was closing, it was difficult to know if you could have another drink or not. Feeling that she was really annoyed with serving us, I tipped 100% on the drink as to say, "thanks" her reaction was total indifference. I seriously wanted to ask for the tip back.

Review 15:We really enjoyed having a location with food/bar on site. Being dog friendly was also really nice. The front desk staff and housekeeping were spot on! Maybe they should train some in the F&B department on customer service.

Review 16:Nothing

Review 17:Lovely people, good location, easy to find. Food excellent. Loved the pool, the pool bar etc. live duo outside on Sunday afternoon. Veranda to eat or drink on outside front.

Review 18:Aircon in room 329 was very noisy when cooling was required. Had to turn it off to sleep. A window fitted aircon unit. We will not return unless we hear that it has been replaced.

Review 19:Location, staff and ambiance brilliant. Pool and bar very nice.

Review 20:Excellent property with very friendly staff. Room was large for queen size room & don't forget the compliment free water at the front desk. Use to live in the area & the hotel is the best one in the area - please don't tell everyone :)

Review 21:Beautiful hotel in a perfect location to explore the city. Excellent restaurant on site. Staff very friendly and helpful. If you like beer, there is an outstanding selection.

Review 22:Room had musty smell, bathroom was very small, bad lighting in room, especially closet area.

Review 23:Every staff member was extremely accommodating, helpful and pleasant.

Review 24:None that I can think of.

Review 25:From check in to check out it was a wonderful experience. Loved the ambience. They've done such a wonderful job of bringing this jewel of a hotel back to it's glory. Awesome time.

Review 26:Rooms are a bit dated but that did not detract from our stay.

Review 27:A boutique hotel with friendly staff. Lovely outdoor patio. We did not use the pool area. Food was very good and reasonable.

Review 28:The bathroom was a little dated and no phone in room( elderly parent staying in another, so this would have been useful)

Review 29:Really lovely alternative hotel with very welcoming and helpful staff. We would stay again.

Review 30:Guests with a big dog that scared my wife in the alfresco dining area. No luggage trolley available at check out time. It was being used by maintenance mannice Hotel

Review 31:Restaurant and coffee shop. Nice room. Friendly staff

Review 32:It's an old hotel, the water pressure in the bathroom sink was very weak and never got hot. The pressure in the shower was weak as well, with half of the water going through the tub spot.

Review 33:This is a charming hotel in downtown St Petersburg, walking distance to the water and restaurants. The hotel has a great lobby bar and pool bar. The restaurant food in very good as well.

Review 34:Such a charming hotel! The staff was great too. Very attentive and eager to please. Food in the restaurant was good and the pool area was very relaxing. I truly enjoyed my stay and really have only good things to say. I'd definitely recommend it.

Review 35:Very little bad to report. The bathrooms in the rooms need to be updated, but I heard they are working on updating them through the hotel.

Review 36:The Hollander Hotel was great for a Thanksgiving meeting place for the family. There were 12 of us total and there were multiple places throughout the hotel for us to gather. The interior of the hotel was very well decorated.

Review 37:Hotel is run down. The area of the dinning stinks. The waiters are not that courteous. House keeping is poor. Housekeeping staff should wear a uniform. There is a big problem with the plumbing. If u take a shower you get burned as water temperature fluctuates all the time(Rm 213) Pillows seems to have rocks inside and the matress seems to be made of wood. Blinds did not work. Cheap toiletries, ect, ect, ect

Review 38:Quality of the hotel, it is run down

Review 39:I like full size Ironing boards. They have these dorky little boards that didnt work well. There are full closets. They should have full size ironing boards in them.

Review 40:friendly staff , location, coffee shop, nice pool area

Review 41:We wouldn't change a thing about this hotel. They're doing everything right, and at a very affordable price.

Review 42:This was our home-run find during a two-week tour of southern Florida. Originally built in 1933, the property was thoroughly restored and renovated a few years ago and the love shows everywhere you look. If you need modern sleek lodgings, go somewhere else; this is a traditional place and proud of it. The staff is as good as it gets; we suspect they're all pretty happy about working here. Our room was totally comfortable: really nice bed, perfectly functional bathroom, and quiet throughout the night. The restaurant in the lobby is busy three meals a day serving plenty of locals as well as hotel guests; we just loved our lunch, dinner, and breakfast there. The hotel is well located and offers free shuttle service anywhere in a two-mile radius. We would never look for other lodging when visiting St. Petersburg, and the locals we spoke with all agreed with us.

Review 43:Everyone is just so so nice there! By far, my favorite person is Mike at the desk!!!! So attentative and helpful. The food and drinks are great in the Tap Room and there is even a spa next door!!! My favorite hotel in St Pete by far!!!

Review 44:room bathroom water pressure in shower. bathroom could use a little update

Review 45:Loved location. hotel lobby, pool area, tiki bar and tap room. room was nice, quiet and clean

Review 46:The staff was friendly and accommodating. OUR cocker spaniel was welcomed everywhere but the inside bar, which had a great selection of local draft beers. Very good breakfast.

Review 47:Tiny bathroom but good tub.

Review 48:The staff was so friendly to us and our yellow lab. They went above and beyond. Free shuttle to downtown plus to ribfest. This hotel has everything. Great pool area. Great food. Wonderful huge front porch with couches. Beds were awesome and I have bad arthritis. We will be back!

Review 49:Pool bar closed at 9 & power was out by pool cabana. If pool open until 10, lights should stay on

Review 50:Decor & friendly staff, great food in restaurant

Review 51:I booked a room at the Hollander Hotel for 4 nights in October to celebrate turning 50. It was my first solo trip in over 20 years as all my vacations have been with my lovely family. I decided that a solo getaway that included plenty of sleep, plenty of reading time, and poolside sun and relaxation would be the ideal vacation for me. I didn't want to rent a car, and at this hotel I didn't have to. Thanks to the Hollander, I got all three things I wanted, and they exceeded my expectations in every area.I found a true gem.

Review 52:Hey, its not a Holiday Inn, I know, but musty smell in room bit bothersome. Staff said they have yet to fully renovate that room.

Review 53:Really fun place- enjoyed being able to hang out by the pool, in the lobby and have good place to eat without having to drive elsewhere. Nice non-chain vibe here. Room was very clean and cute.

Review 54:Great location for downtown- easy walking distance to museums. Very helpful staff. Great pool - plenty of loungers and good pool bar. Food excellent.

Review 55:I used to live in at Petersburg and my mom would usually stay at the Hollander when she came to visit. So when thinking of where to stay on my last trip down there the Hollander was my first choice. Hollender is in a wonderful location rite in down town st Pete And was able to bike anywhere I needed to go! The hotel itself is adorable with a quirky lobby and bar area and a cool retro feel. I defiantly recommend staying here, it's cute and affordable

Review 56:The Hollander has an awesome pool and outside bar with delicious food and drinks! The hotel is a fun place to hang out but is also within walking distance to other great restaurants and bars.

Review 57:The Hollander is a great hotel that looks like you are stepping back in time. Close to everything downtown. If you can't walk to it you can take their free golf cart ride. Will be staying here again.

Review 58:The staff were really friendly and accommodating. The hotel is in a great location within walking distance of some great restaurants and bars. The hotel itself has a great bar (amazing selection of beers) and good restaurant as well. And it's such a quirky homey place to spend a week in St Pete and I'd definitely stay there again.

Review 59:The hotel was in a great location, close to the core of downtown St Pete. Staff was super friendly, front desk offered us a ton of bottled water, and we enjoyed the bartender when we stopped downstairs to have a drink... (Love the fact that we could pop downstairs and have a drink BTW). Didn't take advantage of the restaurant or pool, but nice that they were conveniently available to us! PS... thank you for being dog friendly!!!

Review 60:Terrace was a bit too "smoky" -- couldn't add food & bev charges to the room

Review 61:Great bar & restaurant with very friendly hotel staff - place has a good vibe that accommodates all generations. Pool are is awesome

Review 62:Lack of service for helping with luggages, noise through the night from the bar, some guests strolling and chatting loudly in early am.

Review 63:Location, good shape of the old hotel

Review 64:Paper walls, i could hear people talking all night in other rooms, which was just fine considering the first night a guy was screaming at the top of his lungs (definitely high on something) and the second night a couple fought for hours in the room across the hall. The staff never knew a thing, never took action, and of course calling the front desk is not an option, there is no phone in the room.

Review 65:Location was good, if you are up for a short walk, you have everything you need without driving.

Review 66:It was central and we could walk to the beach, Chihuly Gallery, Beach Restaurant, The Market Restaurant and the Saturday morning Market. The staff was exceptional and the shuttle service was readily available.

Review 67:Bathroom was a little too small for comfort.

Review 68:Wonderful staff..truly dedicated to customer service with a smile. Pool area at the hotel is exceptional.

Review 69:Staff was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was great. Coffee shop with desserts amazing. Free transportation. Room quaint, comfortable and clean. Brand new pool, deck, and bar was great!

Review 70:Car park was like a building site. No offer to assist with bags despite being partially disabled. Bedroom / bathroom smaller than pictures suggested Bathroom tiny and in need of refurbishment Drinks facilities poor - cardboard cups / 2 sachets of weak coffee No other beverages offered (eg tea / chocolate) Windows dirty - hard to see out

Review 71:Location good & cheerful receptionist

Review 72:Not very well insulated from sound, could hear a lot of noise in the hallways and outside

Review 73:Nice hotel, convenient location, shuttle service around town, very friendly and helpful staff

Review 74:Walls are thin and you can hear people walking the halls at night. And we were in the quiet area. Be careful of using your bank card at hotel bar. They hold the charge for a few days after it clears.

Review 75:Fun party hotel. Great bar, restaurant, pool and outdoor pool bar. Locals come to socialize or stay for the weekend.

Review 76:I like everything!

Review 77:Would definitely stay at the Hollander again. staff was great, everyone friendly and helpful. You can eat on the from veranda, on the air conditioned dining room alone at the pool bar. Convenient location.

Review 78:Friendly front of house welcomed us aroffered complimentary water. They informed us breakfast arrangements and of the entertainment for the evening the accommodation is very comfortable with lots of couches both inside and on the veranda. The outside pool area is very nice. The room although small was charming and well presented. There is a very friendly atmosphere in the hotel. Hotel is situated a 15 minutes walk to the harbour front with waterfront walks shops and restaurants the moon restaurant served excellent food and cocktails.

Review 79:Gained mucho lbs at Sunday breakfast.

Review 80:Pool deck add brilliant. Like retention of "old" hotel, didn't go crazy with gussy new br stuff. Can get that anywhere. Likehistorical stuff - pictures, phone booth, etc.

Review 81:No telephone, no writing pads or ink pens in room. Cleaning staff completely over looked our room and the hot water situation.

Review 82:The location, the ease off the staff assistance, the comfortable design of the hotel.

Review 83:Smell from whatever ya'll clean with. Attitude of evening desk attendant when called back to see where shuttle was for pickup. He was very snappy & rude.

Review 84:Romantic atmosphere

Review 85:Went to the baseball game and called for the shuttle after 20 -25 mins they never showed up so we walked back .

Review 86:This place was outstanding TAP room was nice good selections and brunch was wonderful and a great price . Staff was pleasant and welcoming .

Review 87:None of these things would prevent us from staying there again. I only mention these items to be helpful to some. Slow water drainage in the bathtub. If you ask the maid staff to come back later, they don't. No phone in the room (for business travelers who may need a wake up call - we didn't), very small bathroom. The WiFi was not possible to get onto. (but we had our own device)

Review 88:The location to downtown was great - walkability 100% Quaint building, fun poolside activity (and quiet early enough to go to sleep) - The food we ordered by the pool was good. Very friendly and helpful staff. Mini frig and mircowave in the room. Soft comfortable bed and soft sheets. A/C worked great and also had ceiling fan. We will definitely stay there again.

Review 89:The shower went from cold to hot and then to burning the top of my head 3 times in an under 5 minute shower. The top of my head burnt bad enough that it literally hurt the entire night. I reported it to the front desk and they were very attentive and offered to switch our room.

Review 90:Location and downstair decor

Review 91:Water pressure in shower was an issue. Also, there was no full length mirror in room or in hallway. Even just one on each floor would have worked out nicely.

Review 92:Lovely pool setting with bar and friendly staff. Actually all of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Interesting decor.

Review 93:The one man band on sun sept 6 was horrible more suitable for a funeral parlor than an upbeat pool party.

Review 94:The pool area was great and loved the band on sat sept 5! My dog loved staying there and the staff was great:)

Review 95:Tired plumbing fixtures in shower. Pillows too thick for comfort.

Review 96:Retro facility with a element of charm. Very pleasant outdoor pool/bar. Busy pub with live music. Close to trolley which travels thru downtown. Great art museums!

Review 97:The bed was slightly hard for my taste and shower temp somewhat variable. It is an old building, after all. No problem.

Review 98:The hotel is beautifully decorated, the food in The Tap Room is both great and inexpensive, and the staff is friendly, professional, and competent.

Review 99:The room was a bit on the small side but had everything that we needed. Just sorry we couldn't stay longer.

Review 100:What a great blend of retro and contemporary! This old hotel maintained the character of the past and filled it with all kinds of interesting decor - especially the lobby. Our room was exceptionally clean and updated. Beautiful pool area with cabanas and a great outdoor bar.

Review 101:Although not a part of the hotel... dining area a bit noisy.

Review 102:The hospitality, the shuttle service, the historical look, and the cleanliness of the hotel.

Review 103:I have never had a bad experience.

Review 104:I always stay at the Hollander when I am attending concerts or events in the area (Ruth Eckerd Hall, Capitol Theatre, Tropicana Field, etc). The Tap Room Pub is great and the location of the hotel is very convenient to excellent restaurants and shopping.

Review 105:I have to mention some names. Aka Shout outs. Vic you were so accommodating. You made it feel like we had known you forever. Above and beyond my dear friend. Zac you were so helpful showing us around. We so much enjoyed your company. The food was off the hook. The bar knows how to mix a real drink. The room was clean. The bed was cozy. The whole atmosphere was beyond what we expected. A wonderful beginning to a wonderful vacation. I really recommend anyone who reads this to give them a whirl and I hope your stay will be as enjoyable as ours was.

Review 106:We could not find any faults with our stay. Very nice Hotel.

Review 107:Very friendly and accommodating staff. Mike Hollander even took time out to speak to us in regards to purchasing a Condo in St Petersburg. For the $ this is an excellent Hotel. We paid for 4 nights what other hotels would charge you for 1 or 2 nights. Bar area, pool bar, swimming pool and dinning area are very nice. Each day there are great specials including $10.00 for a premium draft beer and huge hamburger. You can take a van or golf cart shuttle to town anywhere you would like. Staff will take the time to talk to you and recommend various places. Unbelievable that all staff are so nice. I will highly recommend this Hotel to all my friends and have already told our real estate agent to suggest this Hotel to her out of town clients. My wife and I were very very impressed. Mike Hollander did a super job rehabbing this building and a great job assembling a fine staff.

Review 108:Never had the opportunity to have breakfast there!

Review 109:Nick and his staff are the best! I was having an issue with the temperature in my room. Vic changed my room to a better room and made my stay that much more comfortable! Love staying at the Hollander!

Review 110:Found the bed too firm for my joints. No safe in the room. No phone in the room so no way to contact the front desk unless you went to it. We had some questions throughout our stay, and each time we had to go to the desk to receive an answer.

Review 111:The room was comfortable, the decor of the hotel unobtrusive but tasteful. Nice restaurant on the premises. Excellent service. Complimentary shuttle to and from downtown an excellent amenity.

Review 112:staff tolerance of unacceptable guests somewhat unreasonable

Review 113:staff very attentive, food excellent, general attitude toward guests outstanding, location central to everything

Review 114:We loved this hotel. The ambiance was awesome. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful in every aspect of our stay. This is our new home away from home when we travel to St. Petersburg.

Review 115:Very poor parking. If you didn't arrive early you didn't get a parking spot. Called the desk they told me to park at the dentist office. It was already filled. Pool was not inviting.

Review 116:Staff moved me three times due to disruptive guest telling, running in halls, and banging doors. Food specialties were delucious

Review 117:I can honestly say one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The location is great, the staff, food and drinks were all excellent. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel and already booking my next trip there. Thank you for an incredible experience.

Review 118:The room was dusty which irritated my wife and the parking was over crowded.

Review 119:The dining was excellent as well as the staff the steak and fish entrees were delicious. The breakfast buffet was well worth the cost.

Review 120:The staff was great. Even though the weather was bad they kept us smiling and entertained.

Review 121:We had to ask for fresh towels, normally when you are at a hotel for over 3 days housekeeping comes through to change linens regularly.

Review 122:The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful. The location (close to St Petersburg harbour front) was ideal. The atmosphere, despite being a busy Independence Weekend, was superb!

Review 123:My husband and I stayed at the Hollander for our honeymoon, and we could not have been happier! The food was amazing and the staff even better! The outside pool/bar was convenient and so relaxing. We've already planned on returning to the Hollander anytime we are vacationing in the area.

Review 124:Liked everything.

Review 125:Staff were very attentive. Lobby with bar and restaurant were always very lively. Bottled water any time we liked. Pool with bar and cabanas. Hotel with personality.

Review 126:I found a lot of roaches inside the room, both dead and alive crawling all over the place. I couldn't have stayed one more day because I thought that the roaches were going to eat me.

Review 127:Staff was extremely friendly. The hotel was nice and the bartender came out to the porch to service clients.
