Reviews for Sands of Islamorada

Review 1:It was busy when we checked in but that does mean you can ignore guests.

Review 2:Good location, large room that was well furnished -- we were in room #14 with 4 adults. We basically slept there and stayed just one night so did not use the property much (did not even shower there). Good parking right next to our room.

Review 3:We made a reservation for the wrong day, but they were very helpful and fortunately were able to accommodate us. I read other reviews that said English was not spoken here but found that this was not the case. Everyone on the staff spoke excellent English. The room was clean and neat with attention paid to the details. Bed was comfortable, big shower, sizable kitchen, nice porch with a hammock and chairs. There is also a nice pool and hot tub. Would have liked to stay longer.

Review 4:Only had microwave & refrigerator in room so had to dine out mostly! Got expensive! There is a grill available to guests however.

Review 5:Great location on the water! Nice dock with great views! Steps to beach & pool. Small so not crowded, quiet. Nice room, comfy beds! Plenty of Hot water!! Very friendly staff! Mercy & Richard were wonderful hosts!

Review 6:Poor TV channel selections.

Review 7:Management were very accommodating and friendly. Jacuzzi was the ticket to relax from a long day traveling. Windley Reef Geologic Park a great place to tour nearby, and walking/biking paths in the community. Midway Cafe also great place to eat.

Review 8:My friend fell coming out of office..big step down, stayed one nite in terrible room, cut stay short to get friend to hospital at our home, no refund because she got hurt there, room made no sense.

Review 9:Not being able to walk to town but it was an easy 2 mile drive . The place is small and parking as well as launching a boat was a chore but the staff was very helpful in getting this resolved for us. No view from our room however there were a couple units that were ocean front. There were really no issues that would keep us from returning we were thrilled to have found such a place for such a reasonable cost.

Review 10:I Liked being on the ocean and able to have pets. We did not bring our dog but are excited we found such a nice quaint place in Islamorada that allows pets. Loved the Macaws they have and the fact they have a small dock for boats . The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable and grounds were well kept and had a tropical feel .

Review 11:No real beach. But did have pool and hot tub. Didn't like to see the birds in the cages.

Review 12:Quaint, quiet, small, great place to relax. Location good stopping point between Key West and Miami. Had small selection of books that guests could borrow.

Review 13:If you are expecting an actual beach, with fine white sand, palm trees and warm shallow crystal clear waters at foot's distance of your room: this is not the place. Youshould be looking for a fancy, more expensive resort-like hotel. We did not have the $$ for that, and were more interested in sight seeing and in going to the beach. The first public beach near this hotel is on mile marker 72 (the hotel is on mm 80), that is anne's beach, which in my opinion is not worth even stopping by. The next public beach is the Sombrero Beach Park at Marathon, which is nearly 33 miles away. Really pretty, great facilities (bathroom, accessible, volleyball courts, little sea weed, nice waters, a cool pier, wonderful sunset. The Bahia Honda Park which is a MUST, if you are from this planet, is even further. All in all I would much rather have stayed in Marathon -- not because this hotel is bad, dont get me wrong -- because it is closer to the public beaches.

Review 14:The hotel is fine, easy parking IMO and nice amenities (had a good ac, big fridge and microwave) it was nice, but me and my gf are not very demanding and hardly spent time at the hotel. Which leads me to the bad part, next. Pluses from this hotel: it is close to the Islamorada brewing company, which is a very good craft beer place (beware: no food) and it is also close to the Lazy Days and OO-tray restaurants which are very nice.

Review 15:Clean, Clean, Clean! And the owner has decorated the whole place inside and out so lovingly and in keeping with the Florida Keys ambiance! Mercy and her husband and daughter made our stay so special! They were always out helping the guests and working around the resort!

Review 16:Overrated and overpriced. This was a very basic motel and not a resort. There was no sandy beach as suggested by the name. Without a car I was stranded and the staff gave me completely erroneous information about the local bus schedule

Review 17:The room was clean, however there were no plates or cutlery

Review 18:I had problems with the TV and was told that this was because the new owner hadn't had the time to reprogram every set. A BS line but such is life.

Review 19:Colorful and fairly well appointed.

Review 20:Need more signage to get attention of travelers.

Review 21:Nice out of the way motel. Very nice staff who are working very hard to make improvements to the property. Very comfortable room. Would definetly stay there.

Review 22:Tiny rooms, no chair to sit on, no air circulation in the bathroom. Staff speaks no English so it's hard to communicate.

Review 23:Oceanside , dock, boat ramp

Review 24:The staff did not speak English only Spanish. Only one lady in the office spoke English. This made it difficult to ask questions and get any information. This facility has very limited parking available.

Review 25:The staff was very good at their jobs. One young man help all of the guest get their boats in the water and park their trailers. Overall my wife and enjoyed our stay.

Review 26:We really enjoyed our stay here at The Sands of Islamorada!! We will definitely be back for another visit. The staff here were great and super friendly :) Overall we had a fantastic time! Thank you so much!

Review 27:Internet access not good :(

Review 28:Excellent location, Staff go out of their way :) it is our second time staying there and wont be the last!!! love this little Resort

Review 29:Dishes for four; mattress was hard as a rock; TV did not connect to networks or cable.

Review 30:Nice size room; near plenty of restaurants; asset to have a boat ramp and dockage. I enjoyed the sandy space on a lounge chair reading for pleasure. Kayaks and clean pool also available.

Review 31:A bit lacking on parking. Ice machine, Coke machine, and snack machine not working.

Review 32:Good location, well kept, clean. On site boat ramp. Quiet place to watch the sunset.

Review 33:The pull out sofa was very uncomfortable! The linens were not soft.

Review 34:The view, the pier, the location and the hot tub. We felt welcome by the property managers (hosts) and they were friendly. The bathroom was very clean.

Review 35:Bed mattress too old.

Review 36:Clean property, friendly managers (family), good location. The unit was spacious, very clean. The manager and wife were very responsive and friendly, a nice family.

Review 37:I was nervous about how it would be so I only reserved a room for 1 night. Once we got there we decided to stay another night and we were lucky they had rooms available the next night too. It isn't a luxury hotel but it was all clean and some recent upgrades. My son loved the pool. We would definetly stay again.

Review 38:No night manager. You must make special request for cleaning and normal items like soap and toilet paper. This is the only place we've stayed where an extra roll of tp was not provided, in fact, we were only given a third of a roll for 2 nights/ 3 days and management wasn't available when we needed more!

Review 39:Lounge chairs by the water.

Review 40:The owners are involved with customers. They also seem to care about there hotel.this hotel is older but well maintained.there is a pool hot tube and kayka rental.our stay was very pleasant will be using this hotel for now on.

Review 41:Not bad but lots of upkeep or upgrading needed in out room. Poorly arranged..sofa in front of closet..kitchen in 2 rooms, drains that were slow & light bulbs burned out.

Review 42:On the ocean, good amenities..pool, hot tub and pet friendly. Near restaurants & shopping.

Review 43:Room was a bit small for 2 queen beds, but comfortable enough.

Review 44:This older motel has been updated & is in great shape. The couple who run it were extremely pleasant & helpful. The is a small water access for kayak or swimming, as well as a long dock to sit & relax. The pool & hot tub were clean & in pretty good condition.

Review 45:More nite time lighting around pool/ bbq area.

Review 46:Small setup with a pool/ hot tub/ bbq and a small beach. Close to everything. Only stayed one night as we had rented a houseboat with some friends for the following week. Basic/ clean/ neat- nothing more , nothing less.

Review 47:Having to leave!

Review 48:Can't wait for the next visit but with our dog next time! A very down-to-earth kind of place with all that you need to enjoy The Keys.

Review 49:We had to leave.

Review 50:The couple who owns or cares for this magical gem could not be sweeter or more accommodating. The location was lovely and easily accessible. The two parrots in the thatched huts on the property were personality plus, highly entertaining if you entertain them in return. Clean, very well cared for efficiency suite Great long dock for stargazing at night, fishing by day We enjoyed ourselves very much there. I'm looking forward to going back.

Review 51:Our room was cleaned only three times throughout our week stay at this place. And every time we had to ask the management to clean it. This is pet friendly hotel. My wife had some kind of bites on her skin when she was laying in our bed. Possibly they were the flea bites. This place is only suitable for boat owners and fishermen. There is no beach for swimming near by.

Review 52:The price was OK, considering we stayed there for a week.

Review 53:this was a really nice place with a good location opportunity to do your own cooking a full size fridge the whole place was really nice I liked it all

Review 54:Some updating needed, but nothing that would ruin your stay here.

Review 55:Very comfortable & clean. Ground keepers are absolutely lovely people who go out of their way to make you comfortable. Attractions & restaurants nearby. Very secluded and quiet.

Review 56:Accommodation has 2 large beds in the same room but they are each pushed up against the wall so if you want to share a bed one of you has to clamber across.

Review 57:Friendly staff.

Review 58:Along with old style of the Keys comes a certain amount of concessions that need to be made. Kitchen had no stove and refrigerator was not as cold as we like. But certainly nothing intolerable!

Review 59:Close to tons of activities. Staff was very nice. If you like old style Keys instead of concrete jungle type hotels, you are going to love Sands of Islamorada. Love the parrots.

Review 60:We really enjoyed our stay, only wish it could have been longer! Wonderful, very happy with the choice to stay here! Another step closer to Heaven, LOVE that it was owned by a small, growing family, very friendly, and helpful!

Review 61:A little outdated. But it doesn't interfere with the whole experience or cleanliness.

Review 62:Clean, spacious (we had 2 queen sized beds!!!), location, very quite, friendly staff.

Review 63:hot tub old and dirty. room cold and uninviting upon entry. could not rent kayak after 4pm. Nothing posted about hours available. Very disappointed in that. No good directions to get wi fi and management does not speak good English. Words yes, but comprehension No.

Review 64:location. pool.

Review 65:they need to fix the entrance as you drive in it looks like such a dump and it's a shame because the rooms aren't bad the pool could use a good clean and the hot tub didn't work and it smelled pretty bad when the tide was out, not sure if they can do anything about that

Review 66:the beds were very comfortable the room clean the staff pleasant

Review 67:nothing!! All good

Review 68:I was looking for a family run motel that was clean and friendly. I found it here! I usually end up in chain hotels and was looking for something different. My daughter and I had just come from a lovely tour of Ecuador and wanted to relax before heading home. We arrived at the airport at 6 am after traveling all night. We rented a car and headed for the Keys. We arrived at 9:30 am, check in we knew to be 3 PM. We stopped to let them know we were in the area and to ask about a laudramat. They felt terrible they did not have a room available for us right away but we did not expect that. We went off did laundry and had a room by 11:30. We were so grateful to be able to take a nap. They apologized the whole three days we were there. The kindest of folks and really wanted everything to be perfect for each of their guests. The room was clean the beds commfy and the atmosphere was a flash back to the old days of Mom and Pop motels of the 50's. Not the Hilton so don't expect those facilities but comfortable and a lovely sunrise over the dock! Not a resort. Pretty basic but very nice. I would go again in a heartbeat!

Review 69:No one was ever in the office, door was locked and never got anyone on the phone. When we arrived to check in had to find a cleaning person to give us our key. The location is pet friendly, however they do not enforce (or do they) clean up after the pets. There were several "old deposits" left on the beach area where the chairs were set out for use. We stayed for 2 nights, when they cleaned our room after the 1st night they did not supply additional coffee packets, or soap. The soap is tiny and pretty much non-existent after 1st use. Very close to the road (which is common for the keys) the road noise was very loud. The beds are very firm, which is my biggest reason for the poor rating on quality of sleep.

Review 70:The location was good for our needs. Even though the hotel is older, it was clean, but had minor details that could have been touched up (new ceiling boards that were not stained to match, plaster repairs that didn't have touch up paint applied). Full size fridge, microwave, and kitchen table.

Review 71:We loved that it was located right on the ocean and the staff was so personable and the parrots were the perfet touch - I felt like I was on the outskirts of cabo in a quaint little area :)

Review 72:Nothing

Review 73:Stayed at Breezy Palms the first night. MISTAKE. The Sands of was spotless, much more comfortable and a hundred times more hospitable. Great accomodations, scenery and top quality air conditioning. Can't say enough good about this place.

Review 74:Upon arrival A/C did not work at all, room had strange odor, boat ramp was unuseable-filled with seaweed, general appearance property was in disrepair, owners or management not on site.No turn around for boat trailers.Would have to back out into busy US 1.
