Reviews for Best Western Flanders Lodge Hotel

Review 1:The rooms very poorly lit - only a small Velux window, the electric lights couldn't fight the dark colours. Not the hotel's fault but the short 1 mile walk into the town centre is not very pleasant due to the lack of footpath through the industrial estate it is on.

Review 2:The very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent choice for breakfast. Large comfortable bed

Review 3:no footpath into ypres from hotel had to walk in cycle lane or grass verge

Review 4:excellent restuarant daily special excellent value at 18 euros. staff very helpful and pleasant

Review 5:The only slight downside was the lack of pavement on the road down into the town which is just through the trading estate the hotel is situated on - if it's raining I'd recommend a taxi as it was only 8 euros. Wasn't an issue when it was dry though, and it's reasonably well lit at night if you're not on your own.

Review 6:Really good hotel, comfortable, facilities all good, fantastic breakfast and the staff were lovely. When we arrived I was worried about road noise but we slept with the window open and this wasn't an issue at all.

Review 7:COULD DO WITH MORE WRITTEN INFORMATION, TV CHANNELS TELEPHONE MEAL TIMES ETC, SADLY LACKING IN THE WRITTEN WORD,

Review 8:NICE BIG ROOM AND COFORTABLE BED VERY QUIET LOCATION,

Review 9:The hotel was situated on a site that enabled us to easily walk into Ypres centre. The staff were extremely polite and friendly. We particularly liked the "Lodge Style" construction of the hotel building. The evening meal and service was excellent, as was the breakfast. In fact the selection and choice of food at breakfast was the best we have experienced in many a year of hotel "stop overs".

Review 10:No spare blankets in the room so I had to sleep in jumper as I like an unheated bedroom.

Review 11:Very helpful staff who all spoke English and were a pleasure to deal with.

Review 12:Restaurant very full and more like a canteen than a restaurant due to a large tour group. There was only one waitress who did her very best to cope in difficult circumstances.

Review 13:Excellent staff

Review 14:The room light switches are only 10cm. above the bed. I managed to turn them on a number of times just turning over.

Review 15:Comfortable, pleasant surroundings, friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast, good restaurant, reasonable price.

Review 16:Everything seems to be aimed at getting you out asap and optimizing profits, nothing done to make you feel like a "guest": staff doing their best, but hotel is understaffed, no amenities in rooms, no fridge, just clothes hangers, no wardrobe, small window makes the room look very dark, check-out before 11 AM, breakfast only available up to 10 AM.

Review 17:We were not informed when booking this hotel that there is a TOURIST TAX on top of your normal BILL,BOOKING COMPANY SHOULD give out this information. We had to pay EXTRA 25 EUROS EACH.

Review 18:The hotel is very clean nice staff, good location only short trip into the town, good access for anyone with problems walking.

Review 19:Lack of visible staff at reception or in the bar. Despite ringing the bell no-one appeared to assist us. One time we waited 20 minutes. Very poor swipe card entry scheme to the rooms. Repeatedly had to get the staff to help. Service in the restaurant was only "adequate" with no real attention to detail.

Review 20:Excellent breakfast. Clean rooms. Good parking facilities.

Review 21:Strong sewerage smell from bathroom. Also need to be carefull when paying bill. Tried to charge us for 2 evening meals with drinks when we dined out.

Review 22:Excellent breakfast plenty of choice.nice room comfy bed.

Review 23:Room was a bit stuffy at night and a little bit dark.

Review 24:Excellent budget Hotel not to far out of Ypres (9 Euro taxi). Comfortable clean room. Breakfast was excellent with a stunning selection

Review 25:Food was expensive for the service and quality received.

Review 26:It was all good, plenty of room to park, move about inside the bar, restaurant and breakfast room. It is just the place to relax after a long day, have a drink without feeling like a dick on your own, have a good night's sleep followed by a real good breakfast. Four friends doing the battlefields. Perfect.

Review 27:A small fridge in the room was the only thing we missed

Review 28:The whole atmosphere was very friendly . All staff were polite and helpful . Excellent food very good value for money . Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here x

Review 29:Clean, comfortable, well equipped, friendly English speaking staff, excellent choice at breakfast, and very good value for money. Location is one mile out of town, but it's an easy stroll in. Free parking too.

Review 30:It was muggy weather and the rooms only ventilation was a skylight we couldn't really have open due to the storms. It was unbearably hot in the room.

Review 31:Lovely large room. Location was close to town though weather meant we used the car. Breakfast had real range of foods and tea coffee making facilities in the room

Review 32:Nothing

Review 33:Surprised this was only a 3 star hotel, deserves 4 star. From the moment we arrived to when we left it was excellent. One of my friends has run a large hotel in the SW of England and was extremely impressed with everything about the hotel. The breakfast must be one of the best across all hotels of this level, hence the comment about the standard. I have stayed many times before, hence the reason for bring my friends to the hotel. Brilliant.

Review 34:The staff very friendly and helpful. Room clean and comfortable. Highlight though was the food, both evening meal and breakfast were simply excellent.

Review 35:We found the staff exceptionally friendly , helpful and efficient. They readily provided secure accommodation for our bikes. Breakfast and evening meals were excellent.

Review 36:Yes someone put 17 euros for 5 beers on my name staff have no record of any tab or bar reciept could happen to anyone

Review 37:Great for parking not having to go into Ypres center 10 mins to the Menin Gate

Review 38:Your directions to the lodge were very poor, you indicate to turn off at certain junctions onto certain roads which are not even named. There were traffic lights by a wind farm, suggest you turn right there and hotel is 1k on your right immediately after roundabout. Please review.

Review 39:Breakfast amazing. Showers in the room fantastic. Pleasant bar area and sociable staff.

Review 40:Room 56 skylight could not be opened for some fresh air and no blind over the glass.

Review 41:Evening meal was of a good standard and breakfast was excellent. Friendly staff who took time out for a chat. Free parking and WiFi

Review 42:It is 2km to the centre of Ypres on foot, a 20 to 25 minute walk, we took a taxi, the cost was €12 one way as not sure of the car parking in the evening in Ypres especially if you are having a few drinks, in saying that Imwouod certainly stay in the hotel again.

Review 43:The lady on reception who welcomed us explained everything, arranged a taxi, and ensured we were settled in our rooms, she was a credit to the hotel, the breakfast was tremendous in the selection that was available it certainly covered all tastes

Review 44:The room was VERY dark: with just one small room that didn't let in much light plus the whole room was painted in the darkest colours, so that didn't help. The hotel is located in the middle of an industrial area with no proper connection to the city center. The restaurant turned out to be closed, since our stay was on a Sunday. But it was during the Cat Parade a.k.a. the biggest event of the year!! How silly and unpractical is that?! All in all I found this basic hotel quite overpriced with 99 euros for one night.

Review 45:The staff was VERY friendly: both the receptionist and the people serving breakfast. The breakfast itself was also pretty good: with all kinds of bread, cakes, pastries and even salmon and surimi!

Review 46:Rooms were downstairs. The walls of the room were made of tongue and groove wood panelling and gave the impression of being in a poorly lit sauna. The location is a little too far out of the town centre. Free WIFI was fiddly and kept dropping out

Review 47:Breakfast included in the price and a good selection of food available

Review 48:Perisable items for breakfast (butter, pate, jam) left on counter in the breakfast room from the previous afternoon despite the room being extremely hot. As a result they were not in a good condition the following morning and we had to ask for fresh butter out of the fridge.

Review 49:Reasonably convenient to the centre of Leper / Ypres, just off the ring road. Quiet area. Staff very friendly.

Review 50:Nothing of note for the type of establishment.

Review 51:Modern hotel on an industrial estate. Nice staff and clean and functional room. Plenty of free parking. Bar open until late.

Review 52:Excellent stay as the location suited us for touring the battlefields. Very good for car parking as well. Difficult to find any faults at this hotel in my opinion.

Review 53:The mattress was rather hard. The curtains needed rehanging in the children's room.

Review 54:The room was on the ground floor so we could open the window overnight. On arrival the polite and welcoming female receptionist was able to accommodate our request for a room change so we could be across the hall from our children. We were a party of 11 and there was no issue with dinning at the hotel.

Review 55:Nothing. However, if you don't have a car then the walk into Ypres is a little far but then don't book this hotel if you can't walk or arrange a taxi or bus - simple. Don't rate the hotel down as it clearly states where it is located and how far from Ypres it is.

Review 56:Room was clean and comfortable. Everything we needed. Reception staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was brilliant with lots of choice from bacon and eggs to cereals, hams, cheeses and fruit. Restaurant meal and service was also excellent.

Review 57:The first room we were allocated had a smell of drains throughout. We reported this to the reception staff who managed to re-allocate another room to us. We spent little time in the room retiring late, however, the following morning revealed very poor and in our opinion dangerous conditions. 1.Shower hose was black with mould! 2. Mould deposits evident on bathroom tiling 3.One light was defective, 4. There was no shower curtain. 5 There was no soap container on the wall - only the bracket where it had been. Further, the water from the shower collected in the bath and drained away very slowly. A smell of drains was also evident - similar to the room we had rejected originally. 6. When my wife tried to use her own hairdryer in the bedroom, the power socket fell off the wall revealing wires - DANGEROUS!! 7. On walking back to reception I noticed there were several locations with electric cabling protuding through the wall - obviously a light or something else had been removed. I was appalled to note some wires had bare ends! Rudimentary efforts had been made to tape over these but some tape was nonetheless missing. I am not an expert on electric wiring, but very clearly, there is not only a risk of electric shock if live, but a potential fire risk as well. I am unable to confirm if the wires were live but they should not be in this condition anyway. Photographs have been taken and some were shown to the receptionist when we checked out. To her credit she was shocked and at my behest, completed a list of problems which I hope means the issues have been corrected. This was a disapointing visit as we had booked 'Best Western' on the assumption of good standards. I hope other guests had a better experience.

Review 58:Staff were very helpful in trying to sort out the many problems.

Review 59:Bar manager on the night we stayed was very abrupt and rude - obviously didn't want to be there. I complained to reception about his attitude and they assured me it would be addressed - hopefully it was. Breakfast mediocre but adequate.

Review 60:friendly welcome, good location for Ypres - 1.2 miles away to the Grote Markt etc. Good parking facilities, easy to find.

Review 61:Decor looked a bit tired in places. On the 26th September the bar was very busy and the bar man was on his own and rushed off his feet with the result service suffered a bit, you need to look after your team, he did his best but needed help, this is down to poor management.

Review 62:Breakfast good, room clean, overall happy with hotel

Review 63:It is a bit distant from Ypres. There are few taxis around ( 2 ! ) and i couldnt get a taxi back to the hotel from the town centre so had to walk, about 30 mins.

Review 64:Nice freindly hotel

Review 65:Thought we could walk 20 mins in to Ypres for the Menim Gate. But no pavement to walk on and busy road. Caught bus in and Minicab back but prebook your cab as non existent within the town. Research restaurants beforehand as only snack bar style choice in town square.

Review 66:Reasonable decent hotel. Evening meal OK but basic.

Review 67:We didn't like the beds far too soft and the room had no air-conditioning it was way too hot. there was also a musty smell from no windows open and no air circulating. Also the wifi reception was poor.

Review 68:We like the fact you was not far from Ypres but had a car park. The breakfast was excellent, best in any hotel that I have stayed in. The restaurant for evening meals very reasonably priced 17 euro for the menu of the day. The bar was nice after a long day touring sites.

Review 69:Open shelf space instead of wardrobe and drawer units Too few clothes hangers Vending machine unreliable

Review 70:Good meals in restaurant. Good wide choice of breakfast. Comfortable large beds Very clean bathroom

Review 71:Used this hotel, as a stop overs, to and from our holiday. The first stop over was good, however, the hotel tried to charge me more than what I was quoted by Booking.com. However, on the return stop over, they had no record of my booking, dispite, having emailed the hotel direct, to check the booking, and receiving an email back to say that they did have a booking for us. Again they charged me more than what was quoted by booking.com. Staff were not very helpful, also a bit abrupt.

Review 72:Location

Review 73:I didn't find it on earlier visits to the area

Review 74:Staff were very helpful, clean rooms and the food was quality especially the evening meal which we would go back just for that.

Review 75:Staff - brilliant, helpful and very friendly. Location - Near to Ypres without the Ypres prices. Food - dinner has basic menu but good in very good.

Review 76:Arrived at 1520hrs after a 6 hour drive to be told that the room was not ready waited over two hours along with 3 other people eventually got into the room to find that there were no toilet rolls in the bathroom the young man on reception brought them, obviously the room was not ready. My wife and I went to the restaurant for an evening meal waited 10 minuets for service but no staff came to the table, we decided to eat in the city. Other negatives:- Coach loads of noisy school children Dog barking. Several mosquito bites because of broken fly screens. Restaurant flooded by heavy rain. Chaos at breakfast, tables not cleared, coffee machine running out. Not enough staff for number of guests, the staff present worked hard but where overwhelmed by weight of numbers,my wife and I have been visiting this Hotel for five years sometimes twice a year, but not again unless really pressed, and would not recommend this hotel. A very bad experience! .

Review 77:Not a lot!

Review 78:The wi-fi was weak and kept dropping out. The air cooling system in the room didn't work (it was a hot weekend!). The room wasn't ready for occupation at 5pm, so had to wait for half an hour (although there was a Leffe on the house!), the cleaners left some of their cleaning things in the room and the daily clean wasn't very good. The auto opening system on the main door was iffy, and I spent about 3 minutes outside walking up to the door to make it work!

Review 79:The location was ok, it was about a 15 minute walk into the centre of Ieper. The fact that it had car parking was the key bonus as many of the hotels in the centre of town did not have on site car parking.

Review 80:No air con in bedrooms. Poor lighting in bedrooms. Shabby outside seating with unemptied ash trays and dirty tables. Plenty of grassy areas would benifit from some seating or tables

Review 81:Free wi-fi Nice bar, lounge area. Modern decor. Net screens in windows, so could leave them open as no air con, to avoid mosquitos.

Review 82:Cleanliness. Had an odour in washroom n corridors

Review 83:Quiet place close to city. Ideal if with car Good breakfast Comfortable stay

Review 84:location. easy to reach but in the middle of industrial estate, long walk from centre of town
