Reviews for Hobbit Boutique Hotel

Review 1:The furniture, the bedroom floors make noise. the old TV with the remote which does not work. the fridge makes noise, one wakes up every time it start running. We booked a luxury room but it was worse than standard room we know. Lunch and dinner not served.

Review 2:The electric blanket, the linen and the bath tub. The breakfast was not bad.

Review 3:Our room and especially the bathroom need an upgrade and the garden looks neglected. Expected more!

Review 4:Liked the theme which was reflected in the room and other areas. Best omelette ever!

Review 5:Thank you to the friendly staff who had treated us with a special breakfast on mothers day without extra cost. Highly recommended as a relaxed and cosy hotel.

Review 6:Shame you had to book in advance for the restaurant - it would've been nice to sample the food - the local restaurants are a bit bland otherwise.

Review 7:Interesting building quite centrally located in Bloemfontein

Review 8:Needs a facelift and spruce up. Do not serve dinner anymore, had to go to a restaurant in walking distance. Would try another hotel if in Bloemfontein.

Review 9:Stayed there 6 years ago and loved it. Very quaint, loved the vintage feel of it. Breakfast good and staff nice

Review 10:Bath cramped ,floors creaked ,electrical socket outlets very bad ,finish of room poor although comfortable and walls were not really walls as you could here the conversation in the next room.

Review 11:Breakfast was good ,decor of room lovely although incomplete

Review 12:We were advised to go to New York Steak restaurant. It's very closeby, but that's the only good thing about it. The setting is awfull and the food very average. Staff is very helpfull, but walks in shorts and watches Tom&Jerry cartoons. It used to be a bit more 'upmarket' under the previous owners.

Review 13:Thematic rooms Relaxed atmosphere

Review 14:The brochure indicates dinner is available by arrangement - it is no longer done according to staff. Rooms are old, not very clean and in need of renovation Secure parking is good, but clumsy to operate as staff have to unlock gates. Service is very slow from the kitchen.

Review 15:Staff are very friendly and helpful

Review 16:Hobbit feels like home. Plank floors and bay windows, bookshelves and chess sets - all of it put together made me skip the mall and stay in instead! They also make the best omelette EVER (and the coffee cups are warm). The garden is surprisingly big with lots of places to have a quiet sit-down.

Review 17:Character and décor/ ambiance made it special

Review 27:Locality

Review 28:LIkes the spacious sitting roomseperate from the bedroom and the warm old worlde feel of the decor

Review 29:Once this was the pride of Bloemfontein. It saddened me to see the regres. This is defenatly not a boutique hotel.

Review 36:Very nice and big room, quiet garden and friendly staff. A wonderful place.

Review 37:Everything! The room did not disappoint. The breakfast was as good as any I have ever had.

Review 38:Our room was upstairs and as elderly couple we were given an alternative which was not to our expectation.

Review 39:breakfast was excellent

Review 40:Need more room to put computers and luggage

Review 41:Friendliness and a great breakfast!

Review 42:Slight tattiness, such as wall paper coming off in bedroom.

Review 43:Excellent friendly, helpful, efficient, welcoming staff. Welcomed by Patrick.

Review 44:Very Quaint good location

Review 45:The bath splinters. The paint and tiles are falling if the wall because of wetness.

Review 46:The rustic feel of the venue. Very homely. Felt warm and loving.

Review 47:The rooms need some renewal, painting, etc etc etc

Review 48:Bath leaking

Review 49:Staff very friendly and helpful Room décor - different Atmosphere - cozy Breakfast great

Review 50:The room we have was small compare to other rooms we saw in the hotel, cable tv with limited channels, no Internet, bed not comfortable. If youlike old thing with a cracking floor, this hotel is yours but, for 950r(about 101$) it is not worth it

Review 51:This is a historic hotel with old rooms and shared areas. Nicedecoration, old style bathroom, nice decoration, sherry provided, ac,free parking, quiet area.

Review 52:Would love more comfortable chairs in room as well as more place to open bags on.The bath|shower arrangement is very uncomfortable especially for an older person

Review 53:The friendly staff, breakfast and beautifull rooms.

Review 54:Bathroom was small. Bed was nice and firm, but springs squeaked easily. No soundproofing, woke up to neighbors arriving after 10pm. No wifi available at all.

Review 55:Stayed in beautiful Elrond room. Close to several good restaurants walking distance. Wonderful staff on hand until late night, very security conscious. Great breakfasts.

Review 56:Maybe the pool area could be put to better use.

Review 57:The rooms are lovely decorated and comfortable. We stayed in the lord elrond suite and loved it!! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Location has some good restaurants within walking distance.

Review 58:Please appoint more staff at reception. The poor guy struggled with handling numerous calls and trying to book us in at the same time and we had to wait quit a long time for him to finish. The carpets in the rooms are really not up to standard any more and does not do the rest of the room justice. Maybe a good spring clean will also help to freshen up the hotel. The last remark that I need to make is that noisy guests must not be allowed to disturb the rest of the guests. As the rooms have thin walls inconsiderate guests next door to us were talking and laughing very loud until almost 2 at night.

Review 59:The friendly staff impressed me from the moment that we arrived and I must specifically compliment the gentlemen who served us breakfast. What a star he is!

Review 60:The wooden floors are disturbing. They squeak and its you can hear people in the other walking rooms because of this type of flooring.

Review 61:The Location and staff are excellent. Extremely friendly.

Review 62:I hate just ticking everything as excellent but I have no choice!

Review 63:I saw the photographs on internet and I just had to stay over at Hobbit. The decor fits in perfectly with my style and I just had to experienceit and see even more of it. It is magic and I took many photographs andstole many ideas with my eyes. I have a small hotel in the country andyour style is what I would like to create at my hotel. Unfortunately wedo not have the flow of people that you have and are forced to chargelower rates therefore we have to cope with a small percentate ofdestructive guests. Anyhow, your hotel inspired me! Service and the restwas great as well. I am in love with Hobbit Boutique Hotel!

Review 64:Not at all a 4 star. Not clean. Very old does not mean antique. Carpets of both rooms we stayed in were stained. This place urgently needs new furniture. Our room had a dirty toilet when we checked in. I constantly got the feeling that the place was dirty. The staff were friendly enough. I expected more than what we paid for. The guest toilet also had an extreme bad smell and it was opposite our room. The door was closed all the time. Now I undertsand why. I will not recommend this hotel.

Review 65:the room decor was a bit busy but i understand its a colonial type theme. I could also hear the toilet flushing from the next room, not ideal. the staircase to the upstairs rooms is quite noisy

Review 66:the reception staff was friendly.

Review 67:Difficult to find and no dinner - instead we were referred to a very good restaurant just around the corner.

Review 68:Unfortunately we had to cut our stay down because of a change in our flights so we only spent one night there. If you like Hobbit stuff this is certainly the place to stay. Its style is unique and very different from the standard hotel room. Because of its style some of the furniture is uncomfortable or just old but that's part of the experience.

Review 69:All the electrical connections in the room were not neat at all.Wires pluged into adaptors all over the place. limited T.V.The windows were not clean. Lots of lighting in the room but very dull.On Saturday evening on returning to the hotel we found that the library area at the entrance to our room and the balcony area was cluttered with dirty glasses bottles and the whole area stank of smoke.Saturday morning staff coming to work were very noisy.Overall my wife and I felt that the hotel was over rated

Review 70:ground floor dining room garden bar and pool area were great. and the breakfast was great

Review 71:They were out of stock with some items on the breakfast menu. Staff was telling us how drunk they were the previous night. Staff TV made noise during the night.

Review 72:Lovely room and atmosphere.

Review 73:Breakfast waitron not outgoing, very glum

Review 74:Great friendly atmosphere, lovely big room ,no danger of claustrophobia, very well situated for excellent restaurant in 60 seconds walk.

Review 75:It was cute and cosy. It felt very safe

Review 76:the feeling of "home"

Review 77:The sound of the steps in the wooden floors in the first floor during the night

Review 78:Comfortable place that in an old environment is a warm place to stay

Review 79:The bed in Frodo is too small for a European

Review 80:Very friendly staff

Review 81:Patrick the nigh manager is amazing and made our stay.

Review 82:absolutely lovely!

Review 83:Place is a little run down and I. Need of basic ,maintenance . We stayed there often under the previous owners. Requires some love and attention

Review 86:Noisy

Review 87:I did not like the small tv ......

Review 88:I loved the decor......yet missed having a shower

Review 96:Staff were friendly,very helpful and bi-lingual!

Review 97:The bath had no overflow, so water landed on the floor

Review 98:Atmosphere

Review 99:Terrible staff service. Rats in roof or tree scratching the roof.

Review 100:Comfortable.

Review 101:Cozy and warm. Staff very friendly. Excellent location: Walking distance to big malls, bars, restaurants (quite rare for SA)
