Reviews for Hotel St. Helena

Review 1:The mattress of the bed really bad and old. The sheets also always getting out of the mattress during the night whenever we moved ourselves in the bed!!

Review 2:The location of the hotel is great and rooms are very clean. The decoration of the hotel also really cool and cozy!!!

Review 3:Told I needed a ground floor room as I was having knee surgery.Imagine my surprise when there were no such thing or an elevator. No money back. There wasn't anyone there, had to ask for things, like breakfast, wine bar, etc.

Review 4:We spent $625 per night and it is the worse hotel I ever stayed at!! Iam a frequent traveler and been to some really "interesting"places... But this really topped it! The mattress is older then mygrandma's house! The pillow has a bug in it! The room was cold andso small that even for a 5'3" person like me felt crowded. Allold dusty furniture. Coat hanger came off the wall when I hung myjacket on it! Couldn't get a tissue paper out in one piece with thecheap plastic holder. The location is noise. We regretted we didn'tstay in Motel 6 instead, At least the bed will be cleaned! Btw, Motel6's toilet and tissue paper were in higher quality then this place! We ended up didn't sleep much all night! The only thing it remindedus it has the "old World charm" was the smell!! It was ahotel from hell!!

Review 5:Nothing I like about this hotel!!

Review 6:Nice sized room, I didn't get the cheapest one however. Old style furnishings, very quaint. Excellent location. Very sweet woman at the front desk, very helpful.

Review 7:All of the rooms are on the 2nd floor and there is no elevator. The temperature is very hard to control by the staff. Either too cold or too hot. Old claw foot tub is too deep to take a shower in. Fear of falling and no grab bars. NO Coffee pot in the rooms. Bed isn't up to industry standards for comfort. Towels raggedy and gray.

Review 8:The staff at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent for walking around St. Helena.

Review 9:This is a very old property that needs to be updated and renovated. It has no air conditioning. While nicely kept by a friendly staff, the property is about 30 years out of date.

Review 10:St. Helena is a great town, and the location is great.

Review 11:No air conditioning!!! Room was stuffy and hot, (90's + temp). Noair blowing from vents despite staff telling us it was on. We leftafter 6 hours of waiting for the room to cool. Maint. Could not fixa/c either. We were not offered any kind of refund whatsoever, sowe left at 9:00pm.

Review 12:Quaint and cute.

Review 13:Bathrooms were very dirty and the sink was clogged in one of them. Our ceiling fan was broken, the mirror was dirty, and the carpet was dirty. Overall this place was not consistent with a $300 a night hotel. The breakfast was just cereal and toast. I have never stayed in a bed and breakfast that didn't serve fresh hot food. I would not stay again or recommend to anyone else.

Review 14:Good location in downtown

Review 15:Maybe it was the timing of our trip being in the middle of harvest season, but room rates here are grossly over-priced. VERY small rooms, not very clean and limited facilities.

Review 16:Location of the hotel is pretty hard to beat. Right in the middle of main street in down town St. Helena- walking distance to everything!

Review 17:No pool and misdirection to any swimming facilities.

Review 18:Friendly, helpful staff and a great central location. Historic, old building had great character.

Review 19:The room was small, cramped, no A/C, inadequate dressing facilities, little light, no closet. Totally oversold on your site.

Review 20:Lobby,etc wonderful. Like old hotels in UK.

Review 21:Ac wasn't working. Rooms are so small, furnishings are old, mattresstoo old, bathrooms so small and overall cleanliness was lacking. Verydisappointed. We spent 3 nights here. The price per night ($350, $450and $450) was outrageous for this property. I would never stay at thisproperty again.

Review 22:Location is great. Lobby is old but quaint.

Review 23:Very overpriced. The room for $390 had shared bathroom. We had to pay$625 to have a private bathroom. The room was small. Ridiculously highprice for that kind of accomodation

Review 24:Location

Review 25:Breakfast was a little spartan.

Review 26:Nice older hotel in the center of town, a short walk or dive to many restaurants and wineries. Easy access to bike routes.

Review 27:Staff not welcoming or helpful Hotel dark and dingy Room very small and no facilities to hang coat/hat No place to place suitcase other than bed or floor Breakfast - milk was sour

Review 28:It was the last room available in town

Review 29:As we were leaving,a staff member was trotting after us to charge more money for a roll away bed that the staff allowed us to use. "The manager" insisted we pay more. Very bad business on the managers part! It made everyone feel awful. I also did not appreciate having a 2 night minimum. We booked 3 rooms. It really added up.

Review 30:The staff was lovely. I admired the antiques and breakfast dishes. Nice location.

Review 31:Upgrade the bathroom (shower)

Review 32:Staff are accommodating and courteous. Hotel is boutique type - the reason I chose it. It's located along the boutique stores in St Helena.

Review 33:Nothing. I thought it represented very good value. Is it new or fancy? No. But for the price and location, it was well worth it.

Review 34:Fantastic location - couldn't beat it in downtown St Helena. Old classic hotel with small rooms

Review 35:This was one of the worst hotels for the money I have ever experienced. For over $700 I expected luxury not misery. Our suite (room 202) was incredibly noisy beginning early in the morning. They are single pane windows that don't shut all the way. The walls are also paper thin. We hardly slept at all that evening and were exhausted the next day for two important events.

Review 36:Location to another event we were attending and right in down town St. Helena

Review 37:I didn't like that there isn't accommodations for handicapped guests. I also didn't like that there weren't any utilities avaliable inside the room.

Review 38:I enjoyed the location and it's surroundings. It's walking distance to stores and in downtown.

Review 39:we could not turn off the airco during the night - hence it was quite cold.

Review 40:ancient hotel with a nice flair. very friendly staff. located in the centre of St Helena which allows to reach some wineries and good restaurants by foot. very good breakfast.

Review 41:My mother, who is 96 and walks with difficulty did NOT apprieciate that we had to carry our own luggage. Nor did I since I am temperarily injured. The hostess was kind enough to help and the gardner helped too, but a hotel needs an elevator and a bell boy!!!

Review 42:The hotel was very special. I enjoyed the antiquity of it.

Review 43:Don't listen to the other reveiws. It Was Pricey. But every hotel is pricey in this area. .so glad I didn't book the holiday Inn for 300 bucks. Lol.

Review 44:Over all: This Is A Great hotel. Old and nice. What we were expecting from a 1800s hotel. Cool experience. AC worked great.

Review 45:We were told all rooms had TV, ours did not and when I asked for a reduced price I was told the owner would contact me that was a month ago and I have yet to hear.

Review 46:The room was tiny very expensive window was broken, it was so hot in the room it was unbearable, it looked dirty and unkept

Review 47:Location was good close to shopping

Review 48:There was no hot water in the shower. I had to wash my hair in the sink. The pillows were uncomfortable plus the linens didn't match I had a bottom sheet for a top sheet and all for $450 a night

Review 49:The lication

Review 50:room 219 was way 2 small for 2 people--rugs really worn and dirty. we paid $458 . No room for suitcase--

Review 51:location was the only thing--plus no two night minimum

Review 52:Being right on Main Street, it's especially noisy. Particularly when the street sweeper comes by at 5:00 AM.

Review 53:In the heart of the Napa Valley and walking distance to the best places to eat in St. Helena.

Review 54:Expensive, old. At first we were given a very small, cold room, without bathroom. Then we were upgraded to a larger room with bath. We did not sleep well.

Review 55:Nice location in a beautiful area.

Review 56:We had a King Deluxe room. The windows leaked cold air. The bed was falling apart with a dusty bed board. The room was not as clean as it should be. The bathroom was cold with a cracked sink. Way over priced for what we got. None of the fireplaces worked in the hotel.

Review 57:The location is great. The staff very nice.

Review 58:TV came on but could not change channels. Then it took many attempts to shut it down. Two of the three lights were not operable. Thin walls. We have seen many units with far better amenities at a much more reasonable rate.

Review 59:Street noise, no screens on windows, difficulty in opening windows, hotel appears to need a lot of up keep and repair.

Review 60:Location, history of this landmark hotel.

Review 61:Did not get room that I booked. Smelled very strong of pine sol . Parking very poor. Not good value for price

Review 62:Bed very comfortable!! Breakfast very nice

Review 63:The room is in need of an upgrade - there's only one electric plug in the room (that we could find), so only 2 things can be plugged in at any given time. The (single?) beds were too small. Service is sporadic at best. The innkeeper was friendly and knowledgeable, but not diligent.

Review 64:The location of the hotel - it's in the heart of St. Helena.

Review 65:Not worth the money. TV didn't work and neither did outlets so i couldn't charge my phone the whole time. Ac was blasting the whole time and no way to turn it off.

Review 66:Good location but that's about it

Review 67:Other than excellent location It was WAY overpriced for value received Frankly just a tired old hotel that would have been fine at half the price if you're willing to tolerate a tired old hotel

Review 68:Location!!!! Breakfast included

Review 69:The room was in shambles. More of a storage unit with things stacked on top each other. Broken pieces stored in corner. Filthy all around in the room. Bed shoved in corner. Pink walls, very mismatched furniture as it seemed to us to be used as storage. It was the last room available and in town or would not have stayed.

Review 70:I like the gal on the front desk, I liked the lobby and had an excellent breakfast. Great location in town.

Review 71:Parking, rude staff, incredible noise from in/out of the hotel, uncomfortable bed, sagging floors and dated/dirty decor, no coffee before 8am, hotel not staffed from ~8p to 8a.

Review 72:Location, ease to walk to downtown places

Review 73:The cost of the room was double of what it should have been. TV did not work, found the remote under the bed and it was discusting under the bed. Looked like it haven't been vaccumed in a year. For the quality of the room I should have only paid $250. Not $450. Very dissatisfied and will never stay again nor will I recommend. R Potts.

Review 74:The continental breakfast

Review 75:This to me was not a hotel. It was a hostel. It was a crime to charge more than $75 for our room. In fact, on the second night of our stay, we did not even sleep there. We chose to stay at another hotel because we felt we couldn't even use our hotel room because it was so ancient and small. We will never stay there again nor recommend it to anyone. The staff was nice. The location is fabulous. This review is only for the actual hotel, which we found unlivable.

Review 76:I only liked the location of the hotel. That was it.

Review 77:Overpriced for quality of facilities No lift Small rooms Air conditioning weak and no in room control Bathroom 60's vintage fit out Limited continental breakfast

Review 78:Nothing

Review 79:It's right on Main Street and you hear everything. We didn'tsleep hardly at all over three nights. Loud cars, trucks, motorcycles -high traffic noise starting at 5 am or earlier. At an average of $500per night, those walls and windows should be sound proof.

Review 80:Staff was great! Nicely kept little hotel...

Review 81:beds were horrible, TV was not working downstairs in the lounge area. Had problems with TV in the room. The room windows although closed you could hear everything going down the alley or down the street it was as if you had the window open. Air conditioning was constantly on, you could not adjust the temperature as there was no thermostat in the room. The door squeaked constantly opening and closing.

Review 82:Property was right in town. Close to shops and restaurants within walking distance.

Review 83:Liked really nothing!!!!Never payed so much to get nothing !! Not normal from booking.com that this hotel has still **** on your website! Disappointed on everything!

Review 84:I am not sure if it is handicap accessible. I am glad I didn't bring a lot of luggage, due to stairs.

Review 85:Beautiful inside - mostly antique furniture and objets d'art. Really enjoyed the comfort, the attentive staff and the atmosphere. Great to walk to excellent restaurants on the street as well as shopping.

Review 86:Wasn't clean, it was rundown it had no sink plug, broken electricalsocket on wall which sparked when used, wifi was sporadic, televisionin room 210 only worked if light was turned on we were informed, someone's old garment found under the bed, shower was only a trickleof water, lady on front desk called marje lafferty was rude anddismissive of us when we voiced our concerns and asked if we couldcancel our second night we were told no refunds could be given she evenwalked away from us into a back office and put her hand up in my faceabsolutely no customer service whatsoever and for $450 inc of taxesthis is absolutely disgusting I have never ever been in a situationlike this where have been held to ransom to stay at the hotel or moveon and lose $450!!

Review 87:Nothing at all

Review 88:We booked 2 rooms for 2 couples. Our room was sad and needed updating --paint, nicer quality decor. The other room was better --same price. Breakfast was included, but not very fresh.

Review 89:Front desk staff was very friendly. We also appreciated free wi-fi and central location.

Review 90:Rooms not cleaned and beds simply re-made. No change of used cups, soap, etc. Interior carpets absolutely filthy. Cobwebs in bathroom. Definitely not handicap accessible. Stayed for 5 nights and the put me in a room with literally 18 inches from bed to wall with no closet or usable draws. At my request they changed my room but had to pay a premium just to get a closet and a little more room. If more the 5 guests good luck on finding a parking space.

Review 91:Friendly staff

Review 92:Shared bathroom Air conditioner not sufficient, very hot For 250/night you are paying for central location and parking but not necc comfort

Review 93:See headline Parking

Review 94:For the price not really worth it. The good - Right in the heart of St Helena. The Bad- No closet, small rooms, dated For the money would probably go somewhere else

Review 95:Management needs to fix the fan in 205. We weren't there much in hottest part of day but even changing for dinner or taking a short rest, room needed air to circulate.

Review 96:Hotel in building dating from 1880's so naturally rooms are small. We had 205, queen with shared baths across the hall. Room very small, bed very comfortable, everything clean as a whistle. Full continental breakfast, toast, bagels and pastries, yogurt and cereals, boiled eggs etc.For St. Helena a bargain with charm. Right in center of Main St. shopping district.

Review 97:I called to confirm my reservation, as my parents were joining me thefront desk told me that they were upgrading us to a suite. On arrival wewere told that they changed us to the largest room in the hotel calledthe solarium. When we arrived in the room the room had no bathroom andlooked like a storage room with a lumpy queen bed and a roll away from1950. For over $400 usd I can not imagine a room with out a bathroomespecially when it was not advertised as such. I went to the front dealand discuss this with them but the man that was working the desk told mehe would look into it. When I returned from dinner her offered me asuite for an additional $50 usd and when I told him that was ridiculousand would bring my total cost to over $500 he said that's the onlything he could do. I insisted that he phone the manager and there was noresonse. He said that it was the only room and that it would be gonesoon. I escalated my argument again insisting that this was ridiculousand that I was told I was getting the suite and changed to the solarium. When he finally looked at his slip and saw that my claim was consistenthe have me the keys not before telling me that he would probably losshis job for doing so. The new room 202 was a suite it was decent andconsistent with the decor of the 1880's which was fine. The bed wasfine and the rest of the stay was fine. It started off on such a badnote and the costumer service was so appalling in handling this messthat I will never return not can I recommend the hotel as a 4 starplace. I would give it a 2 out of 5 at best !!!!!

Review 98:The location was excellent on the Main Street in st Helena. Excellentresturant across the street called Cook'S.

Review 99:small dingy rooms (we saw two because the tv didn't work in the first one) no closets, extension chords hanging everywhere to plug in tv, lamp, etc.. Grossly overpriced!

Review 100:location

Review 101:I would have preferred my own bathroom but price was a little too high. With that said bathrooms were relatively clean. Also breakfast was fair....bagels not fresh.

Review 102:Decor. Old fashion The lady at the desk was very helpful

Review 103:If you stay there do not let them put you in room 210 (Louie) it is directly above the lobby which has a door that starts slamming early in the morning, unless you like being awakened at 7 AM on Sunday

Review 104:Location, location, location

Review 105:Overpriced Not much hot food (just bagels and toast) at breakfast - how about hot eggs or waffles or pancakes?

Review 106:Great location Cute place Clean Friendly staff, especially the front desk Breakfast is not bad, for a continental breakfast

Review 107:The room was closet sized. We shared a bathroom down the hall for an outrageous price. We thought we'd snagged the last vacancy and when we got there the vacancy sign was up. Saw a deal for half the price later. Loud at night (street noise and partiers).

Review 108:I liked the old fashioned feel of the place and the nice lady who let us lock our bikes in the patio.

Review 109:The sign stating No Refunds behind the check-in desk should have told me to go elsewhere, you have that choice, find better/other lodgings.

Review 110:evirything

Review 111:nothing

Review 112:Small room. No closets. No desk. No private bath. In general, no amenities.

Review 113:Location on Main Street & plentiful parking.

Review 114:The room was Tiny, barely enough room to put bags down. sent us to a dirty room first attempt. Felt Dirty

Review 115:It is a perfect location

Review 116:very run down building

Review 117:Breakfast very simple.

Review 118:The staff we warm and welcoming. It felt like going home.

Review 119:Didn't realize it was shared bathrooms.

Review 120:Fantastic location.

Review 121:Property is dated and a bit tired.

Review 122:Great location. Friendly staff.

Review 123:Cost was about 5x what it should have been for a very small non-airconditioned room with a lot of street noise

Review 124:Room was really tight.

Review 125:The quaint atmosphere and wonderful staff. Location in town is central to navigate the area.

Review 126:For the $490 cost, a 10x10 room and a small bathroom was pretty tough!

Review 127:The location was fantastic - downtown St. Helena.

Review 128:that's ok

Review 129:The worst ever price ratio.

Review 130:The carpet and rooms are in need of modernization badly!!!!!

Review 131:Location is excellent! Love the history of the hotel.

Review 132:Wi-Fi spotty at best. Also AC cannot be controlled from the room. Poor ventilation.

Review 133:The place has such great potential, but it is filthy

Review 134:There was no elevator and the breakfast was minimal

Review 135:The room was a bit small and breakfast a bit sparse for selections.

Review 136:Beautiful 1880's built bed and breakfast.
