Reviews for Cheeca Lodge & Spa

Review 1:The room could do with updating A little. The bathroom door was Stiff and lock hanging off. TV only Got 2 channels.

Review 2:Liked the resort and the pools. The food was good and the staff lovely. Expensive resort fee but you get that everywhere here.

Review 3:Your manager should spend the night on the pullout couch in the room we stayed in (I believe 612- your records will show). When I booked the room I was worried about this- I was told it will sleep just like a bed. But don't take my word for it- have your manager and better yet your owner try to spend the night on that mattress and see if you would be willing to pay as and five star resort. I had to sleep sideways and build an extension for my legs. It's much worse than economy class on air France.

Review 4:The landscaping was awesome.

Review 5:Golf course view rooms are nice, but the elevator kept coming to jarring, intermittent stops between floors. We thought that we were going to be stuck. A leftover room service food tray was left on the floor outside of a room all day without being picked up.

Review 6:The facility is top notch and the staff was great. The location is one of the best spots in the Keys, with lots to do onsite and nearby. Get dinner at Chef Michael's next door -- Awesome !!! The beds were the most comfortable ever !!

Review 7:We never received a newspaper! Our TV had "no signal" on every station! We called about it and were told she would call the engineer and get right back to us, which never happened!! Charging us $50 for 2 bottles of water was the final straw!! It's way over-priced to begin with! We will not come back and will certainly not recommend it to anyone.

Review 8:Nice place!

Review 9:only the adult pool was heated....the "family" pool was not, so my kids couldn't swim, so they were disappointed

Review 10:It was the perfect location, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was great, a number of different dining options on site. The amenities were good.

Review 11:Lots of kids, and not much of a beach swimming experience. From a European perspective, a very "American style" resort, with its pros and cons...

Review 12:Large room (golf suite), lots if water sports

Review 13:We were told at check in that could ask for late check out....then when we did, they gave us 30 more mins. The morning we checked out, staff knocked on our door 4 times trying to get us to leave. At that rate, I should not feel pressured to go. Also, the shower pressure in our room in the main lodge was terrible.

Review 14:The beach here is to die for. Above average food. Coolest hotel bathroom ever. Beds aes very comfortable.

Review 15:Don't give the credit card to this hotel they made non authorized charges!!! I still have 400$ in my credit card for one night room of 100$ prepaid two months aga through bookng

Review 16:I prepaid the room But They charge me 300$ in my credit card plus 36$ I don't know why. They said it was a pre authorization but at present 10 days ago the charge is not reimbursed Even more they charge me also 43 $ in resort fees for a night ( I arrive 2Am and leave the hotel at 10 am Today I still have 400$ charge in my credit card for a prepaid room which cost is 115$ I try to solve the problem twice at the hotel but it was impossible

Review 17:highly recommended! great location by the beach, lots of activities available, we regretted staying only one night on our way to Key West which did not allow us to take full advantage of the hotel facilities. The sushi restaurant was fantastic.

Review 18:We requested a quiet room overlooking the golf course but the palms growing outside our balcony were so big we could not see any view at all.

Review 19:Staff were very polite and helpful. Facilities included in the resort fee were very good.

Review 20:Cost/value was bit low. Thought my room was a bit dated... Clean but not spotless. Sliding door really did not work well. Poor walking trails from rooms at golf course. Golf course is just a pitch and putt... No putter needed, greens are too rough to actually putt. Resort fees are very high for activities... Most nicer activities cost substantial more.

Review 21:Nice finishings in the main lodge and public areas. Felt secured every moment. Easy to find. Friendly staff overall.

Review 22:The attitude of staff was poor. The air conditioner filters were filthy. The restaurant for dinner ran out of the dishes my husband ordered at 8:00 . Then the waitress poured champagne all over me while opening for a neighboring table. We checked out. The staff didn't seem to care.

Review 23:We specifically stated that I had trouble walking etc. but whoever checked us in gave us a room up many steps, (two flights), and quite far from dining etc. Had to eat in room whole time. The signage was poor & we had a hard time finding our way around resort. Bed was very uncomfortable for me and had to come home early because of it.

Review 24:The area's beauty & most of staff were pleasant & helpful. Food was good.

Review 25:Poor level of service at the outside bar. Couldn't really swim in the sea - very disappointing. The occasional loud outspoken guest ruined the peace.

Review 26:Beautiful location and grounds. Room was gorgeous. Very peaceful. The wild birds were spectacular.

Review 27:NOTHING!!

Review 28:The Resort was comprehensive. The grounds were manicured, offered many activities and the accommodations were top notch. One of the most memorable aspects was the staff. Courteous, attentive and friendly - and GENUINE..Rarely at other facilities do we encounter staff that is truly kind, helpful and friendly!

Review 29:The cold shower my husband had in the morning. Next morning shower didnt work repair man fixed. They put $200 on our credit card. Still waiting for a credit to our acct.

Review 30:Good location nice staff especially girl that cleaned our room.

Review 31:Second time there, seems like the property needs to be updated. The tiki bar was dirty and the high top chairs should be replaced.

Review 32:Beautiful location, some staff were not movitated. Our room location was to far from main bldg. even though many empty rooms the lady who welcomed us, gave some annoying answer.

Review 33:There wasn't enough staff on site. Towels on beach chairs were still left the next day. Adult pool was a lap pool. I feel that this resort should have more staff on all around premises. I did see a lot of staff but working on private events and cleaning, not very social or attentive. I went to the Whitehouse to inquire about bike rental and there were 3 ladies taking away not sure if one of them worked there but no one acknowledged that I was even there so I walked right out. I requested birthday balloons for my wife or something special and nothing was done!

Review 34:I loved our room! The Atlantic edge restrraunt was amazing! The quietness on beach.

Review 35:Staff were over stretched and unhappy. Our room was in a block which had poor drainage. Guess what. A lake appeared outside on 2 days. Maybe this should be dealt with in a proactive rather than reactive way (reactive -meaning noisey petrol pumps outside your room). It rains a lot in florida. Plan the drainage. Food over priced for the quality. Go to key west and spend most your time there. Also. Main pool was horrible. Many leaves and poorly maintained. I suspect there is a staffing issue. Lack of staff and lack of overall maintenance.

Review 36:Having somewhere to stay. Ground staff were good - buggy guys. They were clearly over stretched though.

Review 37:We were in a suite. Our adult children were a room adjoining our suite and our two other adult children were in another building. We all were disappointed with the lack of adequate lighting. It make our accommodations very dreary, impossible to apply make-up or to see clothes that were in the closet. There mirror in the bedroom. There were no grab bars in the shower. The shower door swung in or out therefore a hazard.

Review 38:The beautiful setting

Review 39:Had to wait a long time for free transport to take us back to the hotel. Smelly Lagoon

Review 40:Location and very nice room and bathroom. Free transport to local restaurants.

Review 41:The beach area was a disappointment. Didn't realize the water would have the "sea grass" and lots of it. Would have liked a better beach area and updated eating area.

Review 42:Very welcoming greeting by the staff and the champagne didn't hurt either :)

Review 43:The pizza oven was out of order for the duration of our stay...

Review 44:Loved checking in with ice cold glass of champagne. Loved how friendly the staff were....nothing was too much trouble even when I wanted food not on the menu

Review 45:Had room on third floor. Took elevator to bring up luggage. Elevator broke and I got stuck on it for about 40 minutes before they could get me off. Not even a sorry or a free drink. Was out of service our entire stay.

Review 46:Loved the tropical atmosphere, and the beautiful surroundings

Review 47:awesome place, champagne at check-in, pool have perfrect ocean view, fd staff is fine. room was hugh, bed comfortable, bathroom big with extra towells. my second time there and will come again.

Review 48:We came to cheeca lodge for our honeymoon and everything exceeded our expectations. Customer service was great from beginning to end of our stay. Every area of this resort is clean and well conserved. We absolutely love cheeca lodge and highly recommend this place for a couple get away.

Review 49:I think it was a bit overpriced and I didn't like paying the resort fee for each day when there were a lot of activities that we didn't participate in. I would rather pay for what I used.

Review 50:The resort was beautifully landscaped and had wifi even in the tiki bar. Very generous with towels, too, in both the room and at the pool.

Review 51:Had problem trying to get connecting rooms. The pool could have been a little cleaner. I didn't like the fact that there was a lot of food around the ocean front pool. The Queen connecting bathroom shower had low pressure, but the King had good pressure

Review 52:The king room was great. I liked the interior design and landscaping. I like the Full moon party.

Review 53:That we had to leave!...Food was pricey..

Review 54:We loved pretty much EVERYthing about it. Beautiful room ( King Suite Ocean View). Staff was amazing and attentive. Lots to do with the kids on the grounds, water sports, bikes, game room all included! Gym and adult pool and Family pool were great too. Would definitely go again.

Review 55:At check in, the front desk was friendly and matter of fact of just giving you the cost sheets of what was included. As to our surprise there was nothing included--you had to pay a $39.00 fee per day plus tax to receive WI/FI and water. All the other stuff, like bikes etc. was a come on and were always gone. If we wanted to avail ourselves of these amenities, we would have rather paid individually instead of being charged up front even if you do not use them. This was an immediate turn off. Also with the turn down service at night, our towels from showering were still left on the floor where we placed them and no fresh clean towels were left for the morning. This was an absolute disgrace for the amount we were paying for our room. Also there were not enough umbrellas for shade or pool lounges to accommodate the amount of guests. The lock was broken on the sliders which we had called for the repair. By the outside seating for the Atlantic Edge Restaurant and Tiki Bar, was terrible because of the very bad stench from the ocean, even at high tide. It was great to go off property.

Review 56:We tolerated a very bad choice in our stay because we prepaid and could not get our money back.

Review 57:None of the bathroom doors locked and you can see into the toilet area since the door doesnt seal when closed

Review 58:friendly staff, lots to do, good area close to everything, very clean and great room service

Review 59:The carpets in our rooms were filthy. Everyday our feet were BLACK. Somewhat pricey for what's offered. The water was disgusting.

Review 60:the access to various outdoor activities

Review 61:One day we walked in on the housekeeping staff washing our dishes in the bathroom sink with her bare hands. Eww! We didn't use those cups again.... Queen bed was pushed too close to wall. Felt tight.

Review 62:Fishing pier, kayaks, gift store, grounds were gorgeous

Review 63:Wifi is not so great in the main lodge and the lagoon was a little dirty. I was surprised, they used to let kids swim in it.

Review 64:Fantastic resort, pampered all the way through. . .

Review 65:Description of rooms at booking.com is wrong and misleading (considerably above what's really offered). Staff said they are not responsible for it which I think is very poor behaviour. I would expect them to check sites like booking.com if room descriptions are correct. Breakfast is not included, prices are just too high compared with other places on the Keys.

Review 66:Hotel claimed to have not received my reservation. Then they acknowledged they found, but had no rooms. Then they found a room. The room was average at best. The property is old and dated. They charge premium rates but provide average value.

Review 67:Messed up our reservation for two rooms, blamed booking.com even thought the hotel received a $2,000. Deposit. Moved us to cheaper rooms; fan did not work, lock of doors to deck broken, bathroom lock broken, lack of lighting in room, extremely uncomfortable and wore out beds, found huge live roach on one of bed, air conditioner broken in one room, filthy and small elevators, webpage is not clear regarding that all rooms are separate from main building and require a walk to teach the pool, beach, etc. Gave us discount only after we pressed for it; otherwise all they were offering was apologies. Overrated, expensive and poorly ran. Not worth the money. Stay somewhere else.

Review 68:The serving staff is A+.

Review 69:The front desk staff treated me and my friends poorly. Over charged on my credit card statement for the room we stayed on last June. Tried to call back to ask questions and no one answer the phone.

Review 70:Na

Review 71:Beautiful sea view but beach not really nice for swimming

Review 72:Friendly staff- nice location. Had beachfront bungalow - great sized room -plenty of storage space.

Review 73:Beach was not very big and a lot of seaweed and rocks so on,y two spots where you could actually go into the water. Very little diversity of guests.

Review 74:Room, very friendly staff. , food, beautiful ocean view, nice amenities. Lots of water activities for a price though. Pool very nice but a little small especially when packed with families. There is an adult pool but it's away from the central building and the ocean.

Review 75:Over priced food & beverages, pool and pool area small and overcrowded. Problem at check-out, amount Booking.com said what had been precharged to my credit card was not what Cheeca Lodge records reflected. Also additional charges not mentioned by Booking.com.

Review 76:Location, service (with the exception of check-in), privacy, cleanliness.

Review 77:We went this time for our 34th anniversary, it could not have been better. My wife loves the beach and I love the fishing pier. However, the best part of our stay was the food!

Review 78:Check-in was very busy and quite chaotic. The beach isn't great for swimming

Review 79:Cheeca is a great spot. It is a lovely hotel with great facilities in a beautiful location. Loved the adult pool for some lane swimming in the morning and the area by the water is just gorgeous with swaying palm trees. The room was very comfortable with all amenities we needed. The location is great as it is a self contained resort with bars and restaurants but also within walking distance of some additional places if you want more choice - highly recommend Morada Bay Beach Cafe across the road for sunset cocktails. Overall, very calming and relaxing - I recommend.

Review 80:The recreational center fees are charged regardless if you use the facilities or not. You don't stay at Cheeca to sit on the sand or by the pool all day.

Review 81:The property is beautiful and well maintained.

Review 82:The breakfast buffet was horrible. Eggs hard as rocks, and fresh fruit full of bugs.

Review 83:This place was beautiful and everyone was so friendly. Can't wait to go back.

Review 84:Our front door had to be repaired 3 times. None of the staff knew details about activities and locations. One cleaning person had no idea where the whirlpool was. Another person had no idea what was included in the resort fee. Another person didn't know when activities started or where they were taking place. Staff seemed nonchalant and indifferent except for the restaurant people. Our room was pretty nice but pieces of furniture trim were missing. A sad detail for a room that is over $300 a night.

Review 85:Location was wonderful.

Review 86:We definitely paid a premium and expected a high level of service.Perhaps we are a bit spoiled from "yacht club" service, but wedefinitely didn't get it here. The kids pool and lagoon are not whatyou'd expect and are not as advertised.

Review 87:Exclusive property, clubs, balls, kayaks, SUPs provided.

Review 88:The water smelled awful at low tide, main pool was cloudy and smelled heavily of chlorine, septic site was basically in the parking lot and it was unbearable!!

Review 89:Our room was beautiful, breakfast buffet was nice. We didn't get to book spa treatment due to being closed Mondays and had other plans on Tuesday. Adult pool was nice.

Review 90:Pool is way too small and crowded. They need more seating and should consider building a larger, resort-style pool.

Review 91:Rooms and grounds were lovely. Cleaning staff did an excellent job.

Review 92:There was a line for check in but there had been an accident on the the highway so maybe everyone arrived together, the champagne on arrival was great though. No large cups or spoons in the kitchen area of the suite, but otherwise kitchen area was good. Cocktails in bar not great, too sweet.

Review 93:The resort was lush, scenic, views to die for, there was no need to leave the resort, after a lot of driving(from New York) it was great to be able to relax. Although check out was 11 am on day of departure we could relax by the pool for as long as we wanted after leaving the room. We stayed and had lunch at the Tiki bar which was good. My wife realised 4 hours after our departure that she forgot to take her jewellery of of safe. A phone all to the hotel confirmed they found it, it was UPSd to our NYC address before out flights home.

Review 94:Wifi was a bit spotty, but who needs wifi when you're on a tropical getaway.

Review 95:The suite we stayed in was perfect. Nice view of the lagoon and all the privacy we could imagine. Perfect location.

Review 96:We waited 45 minutes to check in as we had requested two rooms together and then after making the change for one of our night's stays, they couldn't locate the second night stay of our original booking. They resolved everything but it was a painful process with no offer to discount our room for all the inconvenience. Then we had a very long dinner at their main restaurant. After complaining about waiting thirty minutes (full two hours into dinner) for our dessert, the manager did offer an adjustment to our bill. It totally didn't match with the wonderful staff and quality of the hotel. They seemed short staffed all around the weekend we were there.

Review 97:The location, rooms, grounds and amenities are excellent. They also found us a babysitter in short notice that was excellent.

Review 98:Food service is terribly slow and wait staff is not friendly. Good tasted great but the service made the pricey food less enjoyable.

Review 99:Great location and amenities. Rooms were nice and clean.

Review 100:The staff eh for a four star resort. The bar staff was miserable and not to friendly when my friend and I sat down to have a few drinks after fishing all day. The pool staff had to be reminded to refresh the supply of towels.

Review 101:The room was fantastic. The amenities were great. The young lady up front that greeted us was great, I wish I remembered her name.

Review 102:Came down two weeks ago and stayed at the Hilton in Key Largo. It was so horrible I left a day early. Was so happy to come back to the Keys and have a nice place to stay which was not dilapidated. Everything was beautifully maintained.

Review 103:We had to wait to check in then when we did get our keys, they didn't work. We had to stand and wait at our door with all of our luggage and 3 young children for almost an hour until someone came to help…:(

Review 104:We enjoyed all the amenities: swimming, kayaking, and fishing.

Review 105:Asst. Mgr.Samantha was not understandin that traveling with my elderly sick mom. I meeded at least a 2hr Late check out

Review 106:Staff was exttemely sweet and friendly. Christopher showed me a couple of rooms when I arrived I ended upgrading. Thanks you Chris!

Review 107:Not allowing my 5lb Yorkie Dog to join me. She flies to Europe 5 times ayear. Stays in all 5 star hotels so why can not my little best friendstay with me. Charge me. If they are frightened she might make a mess.No Way would she. Sad my family cannot be with her mom

Review 108:Loved the room restaurant and every one friendly. Beautiful

Review 109:Lady at the concierge was not helpful- I felt as though I were bothering her. Also waitstaff seemed stressed and understaffed. Our waitress at breakfast kept forgetting to bring items and we could never find her- pool staff were good but staff at Atlantics edge need more training

Review 110:Champagne at check in was a nice touch! Loved all the amenities- fishing rods, kayaks included in price was great! Loved the pool

Review 111:I didn't have enough time to really experience everything.

Review 112:I loved everything about Cheeca Lodge, just wish we had more time there. I do plan on going back and staying longer. This is most definitely the place to go to get spoiled!!

Review 113:My pricey Premier Resort View king room actually was a view of the lower roof with a/c compressora..so much for my peaceful morning coffee on the balcony. Stay away from the main building low number rooms ie 301 to 307..tried to change rooms and advised they were booked..finally chnahed next day after a major hassle. Resto staff were terribly disinterested and would disappear after your order. Breakfast buffet was very mediocre..lunch no better...the topper was upon opening the in room coffee water resevoir..i smelled bleach..touch the side and sure enough they were cleaning the water resevoir with bleach..I got a refund for one night but only for the room ..not the resort fee of $39 and somehow even with the refund I am paying almost what I was supposed to..need my handy calculator to sort this out.. Normally I stay at Hawk's Cay..guess I'll go back. Cheeca is just tired..tired staff..tired furnishings..tired atmosphere.. expensive experience. ..

Review 114:Location of the property and the pools.

Review 115:We feel the pricing for food and drinks is exorbitant! The staff at the tiki bar and the pool area, although friendly! Did not seem well trained and all took way too long to receive food and drinks! Half hour to get drinks at the pool! Really? Also, all the staff kept pushing to charge things to our room. This got uncomfortable after awhile!

Review 116:The property is beautiful and has a lot to offer

Review 117:The service at breakfast was slow.

Review 118:Beautiful landscape, beach area was so relaxing, cannot express in words how relaxing this resort is. Lorra assisted me with our check in we had been "upgraded" to a master suite with a sofa pull out couch which was not ideal for us because or teenage sons were with us so she gave us a coupon for free breakfast for the inconvenience! The breakfast was unbelievable fruit was beautiful and tasty.

Review 119:The grounds were really well done. Even though there were a lot of buildings and people there, the large palms and landscaping still offer a feeling of seclusion. The pools were great, the views were great, and fishing off the dock was great.

Review 120:Beach is not really a beach. For very young children not ideal. Collection in the boutique is too old fashioned.

Review 121:Pool, although a slide would be nice in the kids pool !!!! Golf course. Rooms are outstanding !!! Try to book a room in the main lodge.

Review 122:Although WiFi was free, it was spotty throughout the property.

Review 123:Lovely room with an oceanfront view. Excellent meals in all dining rooms. Relaxing pool area.

Review 124:-Beach was very disappointing. -Room was not what we thought we were getting and found a gheko on our bed one night and a cockroach running around another night (granted we we're given an upgrade the last night)

Review 125:- Staff were excellent -Food was very good - Really enjoyed the adult pool

Review 126:Everything costs extra, eg, coffee in your room, fishing rids, snorkels, kids club($50/half day!), tennis, kayaks, golf. Other resorts on Keys include these and are more fun. Hotel is old fashioned and a bit stuffy and the food should be better quality for the price.

Review 127:Great location. Lovely pool. Cool inside. Very safe. Very comfortable beds and very clean and quiet.

Review 128:The location, ambience, and amenities were excellent. We had to wait to check-in and the hotel appeared to be very busy with other guests but that didn't stop them from being attentive from the minute we got out of the car. Greeted with smiles and glasses of champagne - it really was a wonderful way to start vacation. Once our room was ready, it didn't take long to make ourselves comfortable because the room was so accommodating for our family. Honestly, there wasn't a need to leave the resort - they had daily activities available, the pool areas, spa, dock & other resources, as well as, all the dining options make Cheeca a well rounded vacation spot. Of course, we did venture out to see all Islamorada had to offer from snorkeling, boating, wildlife and more ... We just can't wait to plan our next vacation at the Cheeca Lodge.

Review 129:We had a few initial quibbles with level of service provided by the staff. However after a discussion with management the situation was remedied with us being offered a free meal and an upgrade as compensation. We were very satisfied with how the situation was dealt with. We had no issues thereafter.

Review 130:We really enjoyed the facilities of the hotel, the location, as well as the luxuriousness of the property.

Review 131:The staff were ok, polite, but it just didn't come across as genuine for the majority of staff we interacted with.

Review 132:Great facilities. Cheeca had a lively buzz about it but had a peaceful tranquil atmosphere at the same time, it gave you the opportunity to dip in and out at the drop of a hat. Loved it!

Review 133:Unfortunately the water was not perfect this trip. The three small pocket beaches on the property were full of seaweed making the water unappealing to get into.

Review 134:The property is gorgeous. The rooms are mostly in small pods. Great friendly service. Beautiful path around property for walking or biking. Nice gym. Quiet very well manicured property. Loads of amenities we didn't even get to use. We enjoyed our stay so much we stopped at the end of the week in the Keys for one more night. Very peaceful relaxing place.

Review 135:The beach water was not pretty this trip and the three little beach pockets were filled with sea weed.

Review 136:A morning walk on the path around the entire property! The grounds are amazing. Very well maintained. A bike ride. The gym. The pier. The rooms are spread out. It was quiet. Plenty to do right around the area. Very nice stay. We ended up going back at the end of the week for one more night.

Review 137:Ice machine in front of our room was very noisy at times, so make sure your room far from one.

Review 138:From the moment we arrived we were greeted by very helpful and friendly staff, at check in we were offered champagne. Wow ! Best part was the jacuzzi outside on the balcony. Would definitely go back.

Review 139:The standard was generally very high all over, the only "but" goes to the food experience. OK, but not more.

Review 140:Acces to fantastic facilities (tennis, golf greens, pool and the natural beach - waw)
