Reviews for Islander Resort, a Guy Harvey Outpost
Review 1:The screen door needed to be replaced. Seriously this was all that was wrong. Nice older place supper clean nice people great space.
Review 2:Nice comfortable quiet
Review 3:Everyone was happy and smiling. We have always had a great experience at the resort. We would like to praise Bill. He worked in the Breakfast area. He told us that he was new to the job but he did an excellant job. Way to go Bill, thanks for taking great care of us.
Review 4:Pillows were big fat pillows and very uncomfortable. Our room was at front of property on parking lot and noisy at night with folks coming and going.
Review 5:Bed was very comfortable. Location of property was right on the water, walking distance to several good restaurants.
Review 6:The bed was not comfortable. Room was was a little dusty. Shampoo was half empty.
Review 7:Great location. Grounds were keep very clean. Beautiful view. Right across the street is a great restaurant. Went every night. Great amenities.
Review 8:The term "suite" connotes separate sleeping quarters. We were four, but all the beds were in one large room. Fortunately, the weather permitted sleeping on the screened porch, so some privacy was preserved. Would have been nice to know the layout of the "suite" beforehand.
Review 9:Lovely location on the water and fun beach bar with decent, informal food. Kitchenette was convenient; screened porch was delightful.
Review 10:rooms dated and supplies limited -- 2 pans, 1 fork, few knives and spoons. Rooms held up to 5, but not supplied for 5.
Review 11:the staff was super -- courteous and helpful
Review 12:It rained alot and parking area became flooded requiring water to be pumped out. Dogs are allowed at resort (i love dogs) but some owners allow them to poop on the lawns so be sure not to step on one of these landmines The bathroom could be a little more spacious
Review 13:lovely seaside theme decorated rooms, spacious bedroom and patio. Great pool and hot tub facilities Well maintained resort overall
Review 14:Need More excitement /energy behind the desk to welcome guests.
Review 15:-Great service for breakfast buffet in restaurant. -Very accommodating w/ pets, liked that pets can go most every where -Large property and well maintained-beautiful!!! -Large rooms w/ screen patio to courtyard view was nice. -Comfy beds, rooms are clean.
Review 16:The staff is rude and uncaring. The wifi is useless... Could never use it Room had bugs. Front Desk staff is the worst group of people and treat people with reservations from booking.com differently. We were checked into a the incorrect room. A double not a king and could not even call because the desk because the phone was broken. Had to go up to the desk again. Our correct room was supposed to be a poolview and we were told that the poolview is really not a pool view but a view of bushes. Why did i pay for pool view? Then the room had bugs, a broken window that could not be closed unless I went outside and oushed it closed and rusty appliances. The floor was filthy !! White socks were black with one trip acros the room. Housekeeping and the front desk is useless. We were left one beach towel for two peole. Asked for another and got nothing. Our room was not made up on our second day and a request the 1st day about room cleaning was completely ignored even after having it confirmed with the front desk. This hotel is not up to Guy Harvey Standards and is subpar at best. The only good thing about the place is the frozen rum runners. After a few of them i think they hope you wont notice....I should have known not to make a reservation there. When i called to inquire about a room the front desk staff was obnoxious. They just do not care. Eveerytime we tried to leave with our car a golf cart from the staff was blocking us in. Finally i just moved to golf cart myself it happened so many times. The resort is just an old motel with a coat of paint, some rickety furniture ( we kept waiting for my our bed to break it creaked so much ) and staffing that except for the servers in the restaurant needs to be replaced. Even the hours of food service were not what was told to us upon checkin leaving no food available for 3 hours on Christmas. There is a clear lack of care, pride, communication and concern for guests needs.
Review 17:Midway locatioon in the keys was convenient without all the traffic
Review 18:NOT ONE THING!!!
Review 19:The room had a full mini kitchen, very very clean. It also featured a screen in patio w/table for (4) that extended out to a lounging area with (2) chaise lounge chairs that had a full view of the ocean. Also in the area just outside the room, you had the ability to grill. Which accommodated my T-bone steak and grilled lobster Amazing!!!
Review 20:The air conditioning unit was so noisy had to turn it off in the might and rely on the fan. It was the oldest wall unit that don't even exist in any homes let alone a hotel! The room was then stuffy so hardly slept. Complained in the morning and she said she would get it looked at but it didn't need fixing just changing.
Review 21:Good location is Islamorada but there are better hotels in the area that are more value for money.
Review 22:There's nothing really wrong with the place, it's just set out like an old holiday camp from the '50s. Brits will probably be reminded of Butlins. The rooms are all on one level, and the views are mostly either another row of buildings, and a *glimpse* of the ocean about 200 yards away. Considering the price per night, and the premium we paid for an 'ocean front' room, it was a little disappointing.
Review 23:The staff were very friendly, and the studios were clean, tidy and well equipped. The location is great for a stop-over. With the studio kitchen, enclosed patio and 3 pools, if you were staying for a week, with children, this place would probably be ideal for you.
Review 24:It's like they hung a few guy Harvey pictures and were done. Our room was ok. I guess I should have looked better at the pictures.
Review 25:Staff was good. Helpfully, polite. It's a nice extended stay motel. We were on our honeymoon. So we didn't get to experience all the amenities, the weather was cloudy.
Review 26:Don't have a bad thing to say.
Review 27:Very pleasant stay. We will be back!! Friendly and helpful staff very clean And spacious. Loved every minute of our stay.
Review 28:No indoor restaurant. Limited cooking equipment like oven trays to use with facilities in the room.
Review 29:Atmosphere,pool and hot tub. Spacious room and storage.
Review 30:Beach resort with friendly accommodating staff. I liked the oceanfront view room. At arrival I was going to be put in a room unlike what I thought I booked, the reception staff explained room types not guaranteed from online booking sites but did get me into a room similar to my confirmed choice. Any room here would bring a pleasurable vacation. The staff at the pool/beach bar & grill were wonderful, providing prompt service and very good food. Our group enjoyed a fun & relaxing get away.
Review 31:Organisation of site and ease of parking. Especially liked the excellently kept gardens and illuminated pathways to the beach and beach restaurant. Loved the view tfrom our suite and peaceful feeling of the place.
Review 32:We stayed in one of the Ocean front studios for 3 nights and were pleased with the room. There was sitting area, small kitchen and a screened porch which was good for sheltering from the rain. It was a few steps down to the beach and not far from the pool and bar/grill. The location was quiet and good for a relaxing break. There are a couple of decent bars/restaurants within walking distance if you want have a couple of drinks and not worry about driving
Review 33:Need more umbrellas & shade trees near pool & beach. Old crank style bathroom Windows and front & back doors let in a ton of light & noise in the mornings, not great if you're trying to sleep. Older a/c units make a ton of noise, hard to relax on the lanai with them on. Wifi was down during our stay, since we were there on business, this became an issue for us. In room safes are very large, but not too easy to operate, we locked ourselves out more than once. Front and back doors lock automatically which is great for security, but make sure you always have your room key in your pocket, or you'll end up making several trips to the front desk;)
Review 34:Staff was very friendly and tried to accommodate us as much as possible. We arrived early for check-in, so our room wasn't ready, it was guaranteed by 4pm, and we were upgraded from a courtyard king to slight ocean view king Room which was very nice. Guest suites are very clean, with a nice contemporary style for an older property. Plenty of free onsite parking. Great food at the pool bar.
Review 35:Food pricey, organize and stop in Key Largo for a few groceries at Winn Dixie. No major grocery store in Islamadora.
Review 36:Stunning view from room. Loved the porch to sit on and had a nice kitchenette.
Review 37:Internet kept going out.
Review 38:Layout is fantastic. Single storied on lots of land far from the busy Hwy US 1 so quiet. Large rooms with wonderful large screened patio. Amazingly beautiful pool area and restaurant bar. Good value. Friendly staff.
Review 39:I love this property! Immaculately maintained, pleasant staff, stylish & relaxing, The Islander is my favorite place to stay in Islamorada. I particularly appreciate the screened porch off my room. Dining also excellent.
Review 40:Just felt that the room needed a little bit of TLC (tender loving care). We reported the shower as not delivering full heat. Someone looked at it and said we just needed to run the water but the real problem to me was that the on/off lever did not turn fully to the hot position so you could not get full heat. We did not report some other niggles, as we were only there 2 nights - the celling fan in the patio area gave up working after the first day, the plug for the sink would not close so you could not fill the sink and the wi-fi was poor. Actually it did not work in our room, I suspect being too far from the main router which is probably in the reception area. Hence I have marked "facilities" down. While it was possible to turn off the A/C, you could not turn off a noisy air extraction/circulation system which ran 24H. The bathroom was also a little small although the main room and outside seating areas did go some way to compensate for this.
Review 41:Great sea view and nice restaurant opposite and other bars and breweries nearby were great to visit. Handy for various shops and stuff.
Review 42:Drinks were overpriced and watered down. 10 bucks for a margarita! Food was okay- we would have eaten and stayed there more if prices were lower. Air conditioner does blow right across the bed and is annoying.
Review 43:Beautiful property, nice pools and beach area.
Review 44:Roaches in room--had to wait 4 hours to check in--booking.com people gotrooms way at the end of the property a distance from pool and beach-drinks and food very expensive
Review 45:Location
Review 46:Noisey AC unit, a bit pricey at the restaurants.
Review 47:The Guy Harvey artwork was everywhere, very cool. Very comfy, screened porch and full kitchen. Unusual for a Keys hotel. Beautiful location, very clean and comfortable.
Review 48:Very poor wifi. Hotel lobby was only place you could get a good signal. A/C was loudy.
Review 49:Laid back atmosphere at pools and pool bar. Facilities in the room which allowed us to make a light snack we didn't want to go out to out to eat. Housekeeping kept us provided with coffee etc. Would visit again.
Review 50:There's not a real beach, it's mostly concrete covered with sand and the see was quite below our expectation, with a water dirty and full of algae. Even if the room is comfortable the a/c is very noisy and it's hard to sleep with it turned on.
Review 51:Good location to travel around the Keys. Clean room and helpful staff.
Review 52:Liked it all but my request to have a small note added to my room wishing my wife a happy birthday did not get fulfilled so I was a little disappointed in that.
Review 53:The cabana style decor and setting of the resort.
Review 54:Had to call front desk to get hot water every time we showered. Front desk never called to say it was fixed, you just had to test it again. After driving 8 hours to get there my husband took a cold shower, it never got hot. The coffee at reception was horrible. There was no decaf or hot water for tea. It took 4 creamers to color it. I left my email address upon check out and wrote a note that said no hot water 4 times. I never heard from the Mgr or was offered a discount.
Review 55:Bed was very comfortable.
Review 56:Check in staff seemed to be confused with too many people who wanted to check in at the same time. We got the wrong key and had to go all the way back to the reception. No breakfast included.
Review 57:Although we only spent one night the resort is equipped for longer, real vacation stays. Small kitchen included. Parking in front of the room possible.
Review 58:Jacuzzi did not work and housekeeping was really slow but friendly.
Review 59:The scenery and location was relaxing and calm. i also liked the fact that they had a fresh water and salt water pool
Review 60:Booking.com
Review 61:Vern is the best bartender! And Danielle makes our beach or poolside time fun! Thanks to both. The nighttime groundskeeper obviously works very hard. Front desk and mannagement helped clear up an issue with Booking.com
Review 62:LOUD housekeeping, unable to check in early even though other couples did. We were told to check back in an hour, at 3 pm. and sat in the lobby. You would THINK the guy behind the rez desk would keep and eye our for when our room was ready and immediately let us know rather than us having to check back.
Review 63:this is our fourth time staying here. We've stayed in the efficiencies twice, including this time, and in the individual 1 bedroom cottages twice. For the money, the efficiencies are terrific and we are booked here again in June and asked to be in the same block of rooms!
Review 64:I did not like I had to call back to get confirmation for stay. Waited by pool for 2 hours before we could chec in. Hotel said waiting on fax from you!
Review 65:WIFI could be a little better. Hard to complain about since who cares in the Keys!
Review 66:They did an excellent job with everything. Best Keys experience since I lived there in the 70's.
Review 67:Bed was made with out a sheet, 2'sheets on top and cover touching us. Only complaint we have about the whole experience!
Review 68:The location was great. Pool service wonderful! Room's are very pretty, clean and plenty of amenities! Both restaurants on property were very good!
Review 69:The A/C unit was particularly noisy. We decided against having our evening meal in the restaurant as it appeared to lack ambience
Review 70:The swimming pools were excellent as was the beach area and pier.
Review 71:Filter left in coffeepot-saucepan had wobbley handle, and during a rain storm at 2am on our last day,the airconditonor switch to heat, ? power surge.
Review 72:The location was perfect
Review 73:Check in time was 4pm which we didn't realise until we arrived at 2.30 pm only to be sent away as room not ready. Drove around in the heat and returned an hour later to again be informed room was still not ready. We were less than impressed, so receptionist then tried to find another room. We had requested a room close to beach but were allocated a room in a block furthest away. We found the staff were unfriendly with poor inter personal skills. We later dined at the hotel beach bar which we found had limited choices and was also quite expensive.
Review 74:Stunning location right on beach.
Review 75:Our microwave didn't work, but in the end we used the kitchen so it was fine.
Review 76:Staff were were very friendly and helpful. Even though the beach is not to swimming because it has a lot of sea weed the sight is just breathtaking. We loved spending some time at the dock and enjoyed the sun. The pools were great and cocktails delicious. Breakfast was delicious as well. Great place. Looking forward to come back with a group of friends and family.
Review 77:I loved the room, the view, the back porch, and the way the whole experience made us feel so relaxed. We only stayed one night on our way the Key West. However we stayed on the property after check out and we really had a hard time leaving to go to the next destination of our holiday.
Review 78:To date, we have never had a bad experience at the Islander Resort - and we have stayed there on numerous occasions.
Review 79:We are recurring, regular guests of the Islander Resort, in Islamorada. We fell in love with the resort the very first time we stayed there, and return for weekend visits about twice each month. The place is well-managed, top-notch, and very clean. We love it!
Review 80:I was very disappointed in our "Ocean View" room. I would not book another trip at this resort unless I knew exactly what building and what room in that building I would be staying in. We switched rooms to a poolside room and the air conditioner was stuck on 72 degrees and high fan and was very noisy. Maintenance man could not fix air conditioner. We had to switch rooms again after we had already unpacked.
Review 81:Wonderful location and beach setting. Nice pool and bar area. Clean and comfortable room. Overall experience was very good except for original room location and bad air conditioner - see comments attached.
Review 82:Mosquitos were out of control. Did not clean the room. Could not get pool towels or room towels. Bar/grill closed earlier than advertised. Staff were ok not WOW with the exception of check-in staff who were very welcoming & up-beat.
Review 83:Location & amenities. The grounds were beautiful. Fun place for a group to relax & have fun.
Review 84:Major Clog in the sewer line, had to go to another room to go to the bathroom and shower. They were trying to fix it when we left. Beds far too firm for us.
Review 85:Staff is great, nice people that care.
Review 86:When we went to pay our bill when leaving and returning the keys, not 1 member of staff asked us if we had enjoyed our stay. We were rushed by staff to make the payment and not even a goodbye. Booking.com told us one price and we ended up paying £60 more than expected
Review 87:We didn't.
Review 88:Would have been nice if the late checkout had been extended by 2 hours not just 1 hour.
Review 89:A beautiful place to relax and look at the ocean. Room is spacious and beds were great. Loved the individual screen in porch with fan. Great location near many restaurants and shops in Islamorada.
Review 90:Very good location, nice beach. Very clean. We had a front beach suite. We had only a small bed experience, one morning we found in the room one scorpion and we have been scared of it but the staff from the hotel came promptly to catch it. In rest everything was ok.
Review 91:The beds
Review 92:Great location, great beach, staff was very friendly and curtious as a whole the resort was great only negative the beds were terrible, felt like trampoline. Other than that everything was wonderful.
Review 93:Loudest air conditioner I've ever heard! The tour arrangement desk couldn't recommend a boat tour that had a boat my elderly mother would be able to board, but I saw the perfect catamaran later at the Cheeca Lodge, two properties away!
Review 94:Nice ocean front location with wide sandy area ( can't really call it a beach ). Nice "old Florida" feel.
Review 95:No real beaches on the Florida Keys. Who knew? Apparently it is all a coral reef. The rare photos of beaches are sand that was trucked in and put on rock. No waves, no breeze, no soft beach.
Review 96:Good location to be able to access all the Keys
Review 97:Beautiful resort with comfortable bed and spacious room with screened porch! We loved the Guy Harvey artwork and room decor! Loved that it was pet friendly and we could bring the entire family! Delicious breakfast and good service in restaurants and wonderful cleaning crew in our rooms! Great vacation and we will be back!!
Review 98:I was so disappointed that one of their 2 pools was closed due to renovations. I get that updating the facility is a plus but I think it would be appropriate for them to notify the guests prior to their arrival that not all of the property is open during their stay. The Resort did give us a complimentary continental breakfast....but to me that was not worth not having both pools available.
Review 99:The outdoor facilities are so so nice...I loved the salt water pool and outdoor bar. The staff were outstanding, especially Stefanie as the pool waitress.
Review 100:Main pool was closed for maintenance and no notice had been given prior to our arrival - they comped the continental breakfast to compensate, though ($6.95 per person). Pillows too firm and fluffy. No king size bed as requested.
Review 101:Nice view from room, friendly staff, good restaurant on premises, along with a watersports rental facility, too. Liked the little kitchen and cleanliness.
Review 102:THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE STAYED THERE. I LOVE THE WHOLE PACKAGE, IT IS A TOP CLASS RESORT. THE STAFF IS SO FRIENDLY, AND THE GROUNDS .ARE KEPT IN GREAT CONDITION.
Review 103:Bed was uncomfortable. The mosquitoes were unbearable. Please spray.
Review 104:I loved the room and the property location. The staff was awesome. Lots of stuff to do.
Review 105:WiFi free but didn't work efficiently. Closet doors were loose and broken. They can think in a small playground with some swings, slider and some fun for little kids, they have a lot of none used areas that can be converted in a fun park.
Review 106:I really liked this place, I didn't have to worry about anything, cleaning service showed up every day and change our towels and pick up garbage, I have a toddler that eat only what I cooked and I have there all the amenities I needed...one important thing ..you have the freedom to do mostly anything , fish late night, seat and drink in front of the beach, pool open til 10:00 pm ..I'm please with the place and the services. I will recommend this place to families and couples.
Review 107:I had to killed a big cockroach in the kitchen area during my 3 nights stay. Also, on one morning there were little ones in the tub.
Review 108:I liked the place a lot; however, I had to killed a big cockroach in the kitchen area during my 3 nights stay. Also, one morning there were little ones in the tub.
Review 109:Person who checked me in not very welcoming, was abrupt. Accommodation very dated. Kitchenette poorly equipped and had an issue with cockroaches. Breakfast pasties weren't fresh.
Review 110:Pools good.
Review 111:We had a an issue with the front desk.we live in the south Florida area, and even when the state of Florida was declared under emergency due to Tropical storm Erika, the hotel manager refused to give me a refund for the remainder of my stay.with no consideration what so ever. And even though we had to check out one day early, do to the weather condition we were charged the entire stay. To me was a downfall.the resort it self and Everyone else was great.
Review 112:The resort was great, and clean. Everyone was really friendly, will definitely be back.
Review 113:Hot tub could have been hotter
Review 114:Room decor was very nice - did have window unit air but it was a good one and not real loud or anything. Wish hot tub had been hotter. Nice screened porch on unit we stayed in. We would stay there again. Staff was very very nice and helpful!!!!!
Review 115:That we had to leave!
Review 116:We loved everything about the Islander Resort! The staff were wonderful and so accommodating. The property is well maintained with room views overlooking the beautiful gardens and grounds. Our room was very spacious and clean. We especially loved the kitchen and screened in patio. The resort was just what we needed to relax. We'll definitely be back!
Review 117:This hotel was perfect location and the staff were super nice. We took the snorkeling trip and had a great time!! I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 118:Pools needed fountains running more to cool down the water. Windows were very old and did not seal tight. Gaps around the doors.
Review 119:Location location location overall property is old but well maintained except for little issues. Grounds are very well kept.
Review 120:Beach area was very nice. Staff were very friendly. The room was very clean (although we had a few bug visitors in the bathroom, but it was not a big deal for us). The restaurant was good. Awesome service from That Guy Vern:)
Review 121:There is no beach. Photos could be a little deceiving. Got 2 double beds instead of a king! Paid for a pool view but you couldn't see the pool.
Review 122:Great atmosphere.
Review 123:Our only complaint was the bed. Our one bedroom had a full size bed, and we were told the property only has full & king beds. The mattress was a little hard for our liking.
Review 124:It was obvious the property itself was well taken care of, in addition to all the amenities you could possibly ask for. We appreciated the location and the laid back atmosphere. Not to mention the full on fireworks show. That was a big surprise.
Review 125:The room was immaculate. There is almost everything you need. Plates, glasses etc. The staff was more than helpful and friendly. Is there is a problem, maintenance comes right down to fix it. Very comfortable. Could use a few more lights on the property at night as it is pretty dark but overall everything was great. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The water on the beach was pretty shallow making it hard to fish or swim but the pool make up for it. Not many grocery stores near by.
Review 126:We wish there were more shade at the pool and beach area.
Review 127:The resort was wonderful. The room was clean and updated. The pool and bar facilities were very nice. Overall a wonderful location.
Review 128:Note on the 'bed'...the main bed was wonderful, however, thesofa sleeper was terrible. Our daughter didn't get much sleep atall. She could feel the bars/springs through the mattress!
Review 129:Great location and area to hang out. Wonderful pools. Good service!
Review 130:Noise from other occupants that lasted early in the morning hours. Staff didn't seem to care. Parking lot flooded during heavy rains during our stay.
Review 131:View and location were great. Food and drinks were awesome.
Review 132:Rooms were not ready on time, staff was accommodating of the mistake. The wi-fi was a real issue throughout stay. The island water sports management has taken over the dock making it hard for kids to enjoy the pier. They are not accommodating to any boaters. Your can park your boat, but they attack you when you try to get off at the pier? Not sure where boaters are supposed to unload/load? The water sports area needs to improve customer service to hotel guests.
Review 133:The location and hotel is essentially in the perfect place. The hotel provides all the right amenities to feel like you're on vacation. Great views and nice rooms.
Review 134:Had issues with shower, took two days to get resolved, they did fix issue. Menu at restaurant was not to our liking, selection was limited. No real comfort foods choices.
Review 135:Love the comfortable bed, access to beach and dock.
Review 136:There was never ice in the ice machine. The pool was smaller than it looked in the ad.
Review 137:Cottages are charming and comfy. The grounds feel tropical and relaxing.
