Reviews for Hills Inn

Review 1:nothing

Review 2:Super host. Wanted to make sure all our needs were met. Recommended places to eat. Good location, very quiet stay. Refrigerator, microwave and CLEAN bathroom were real pluses.

Review 3:The man at the front desk had a really fun accent and a jovial, helpful personality. He gave us tips on the best places to eat and interesting things to do while in town. The room was small, but had everything we could possibly need.

Review 4:- Spider in the room - Power outlets too loose for shaving - High-pitched whistling noise all night long

Review 5:- Owner is very nice and friendly - Breakfast was OK

Review 6:Some yogurt at the breakfast would have been nice, or microwavable breakfast sandwiches.

Review 7:The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, the putt putt was a great added bonus.

Review 8:The room was dingy, no soft water for the bathroom, and not the cleanest joint. Outside of the door was unswept---ashes all over. The man at the counter was unfriendly & grumbled a lot when I asked for an extra pillow.

Review 9:Would have liked to play the mini golf. The water stayed hot.

Review 10:Every time someone ran the water in another room - there was a high pitched sound from the pipes - A little irritating if you are trying to sleep.

Review 11:Location

Review 12:Room was spotless. Free mini golf with room rental was so much fun! The owner was super nice and told us about his motel and the area. You could tell how much pride he took in his business.

Review 13:Coffee pot was broken in room. Tv remote didn't work. No frig or micro wave. Not enough plugs in room. They did fix the remote. And the coffee pot repair had been turned over to matinance to repair.

Review 14:Beds were ok. Staff was nice. Location was good.

Review 15:Very close to many interesting attractions like Wind Cave, The Mammoth Site, and several wineries and breweries. Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean pool and mini golf onsite.

Review 16:Very clean. The owner of the property was friendly and helpful. We loved playing mini golf on the well kept course adjacent to the property. The mini golf was free with a stay at the Hills Inn which was a nice addition to an already great property. We will definitely stay again on our next time through.

Review 17:The only place to stay! The owner is amazing and so warm and welcoming, made us feel like home and like we were family! We had an accident with our vehicle backing it into the property and we felt so horrible about it, but I honestly can say this is one of the best hotel experiences either of us have ever had! (Even if we upset the owner, understandably!) highly recommended

Review 18:The bathroom in our room was broken up into two separate spaces. Where the sink was there was no place to hang a towel and very little counter space. Not a big complaint.

Review 19:The service from Wally was outstanding! What an awesome owner who takes the commitment to his guests to a whole new level. Rooms are clean, free WiFi, new 40" TVs, a quick continental breakfast, nice little pool and an amazing miniature golf course all for a great price!!! If you don't mind a little retro, you can't beat this place!

Review 20:The beds are to hard

Review 21:I liked the golf and really everything I did not like the fact there was no place to put a AARP discount on line booking you have to call and them tell them you are a AARP member

Review 22:Everyone at the hotel was fantastic! Loved the people, the location, service, everything! The only thing I would change is the bed. It was a little uncomfortable, but I would still stay there again knowing that.

Review 23:My husband and I were very happy with our stay at Hills Inn. It was a nice location, the room was clean and well maintained. The staff was very nice and efficient. We enjoyed the feeling of being with family. We highly recommend this hotel. The pool was perfect and the other guests were considerate.

Review 24:Location was good for my plan to move on west to avoid seasonal congestion. Manager was very helpful with guidance for a better route and riding through the buffalo on a beautiful morning made for a memorable event.

Review 25:The hotel is old, and shows it's age despite very good upkeep by the owner operator. It *is not* a flea bag. It is a clean, well run, but old hotel. Expect utility, not luxury.

Review 26:The owner operator was there in the office all the time. He is a kind, quiet immigrant (Middle European -- perhaps Bosnian?) with a great sense of humor. He is apparently a carpenter by trade and it shows in the fine upkeep of the units. Although the motel is about a half mile from downtown, it's an easy walk on the river walk that is right next to the motel. There were almost a dozen restaurants within walking distance or a ten minute car ride. This was an excellent base for us to tour the sights in the Black Hills and the Badlands.

Review 27:The place needs updating. There were no hair dryers in the rooms, and when I asked about one, I had to get it at the desk & return it there. The room was very dark.

Review 28:The outdoor pool was a nice feature.

Review 29:Very friendly staff, clean and neat, a game of mini golf included, nice pool. Older "mom and pop" motel, but very well kept. Walking trail with stream very close.

Review 30:Super friendly manager, biker friendly. Well maintained place and pool was very enjoyable after a long day of riding. Had good suggestion for dinner as well. Highly recommend

Review 31:the beds were a bit hard for my back, I have RA so it was a bit uncomfortable

Review 32:The Pool, Rooms were satisfactory, easy access to vendors We did like the stay, Thank you

Review 33:Inconsistent Wi-Fi

Review 34:Friendly clerk at the desk (owner?); loved the free mini-golf course; landscaping was nicer than average; lots of room in the outer water basin area for suitcases and hanging clothes.

Review 35:Location was fine. Everything is close as Hill City is a small town. Clean room, but just outdated. Bathroom was clean and had an all-in-one tub surround - no yukky grout lines. What you'd expect from an old motel

Review 36:Wifi was not working when i was stayed, and water in bath room was warm and no good to shower

Review 37:It was a good place to tour state park and national park in near.

Review 38:everything very clean owner was extremely nice. great pool very clean. was very accommodating for motorcyclists. I would return if ever back in the area

Review 39:The beds weren't bad, but they weren't great either. Otherwise very happy with the stay!

Review 40:The property overal was very clean and tidy. The grounds were well kept, and the building looked very nice. Rooms were clean and the newer bathrooms were a welcome surprise. We enjoyed a round of mini golf at the end of a day of driving as part of our stay.

Review 41:Could have used an extra towel. We stayed several nights and told the room attendant that she didn't have to bother changing out the bed, however, she could have cleaned the sink and replenished the soaps. Overall a very pleasant stay. The owners are very personable and friendly.

Review 42:Breakfast was dounts and bananas. I was hoping for a nice hot breakfast.

Review 43:Very clean hotel. Friendly staff. A bonus perk of a free round of mini golf was included.

Review 44:Lovely little place. Requested a quiet room and the owners did everything to accommodate. Loved the crazy golf - helps this motel to stand out from the others.

Review 45:After reading the reviews, wasn't expecting much, but decided to check it out as there aren't a lot of choices in the area. It turned out to be just fine for a one night's stay. First off, we were able to park right in front of our room which expedited offloading the luggage and reorganizing the trunk of the car. The room was clean, the space was adequate, and the price a good value. The TV worked fine. Beds were comfortable enough. The owner cheerfully supplied a hair dryer when requested. A small shampoo and soap were available but no body lotion; I don't recall if conditioner was supplied. There didn't seem to be a designated space for breakfast although coffee and sweets were available (possibly cereals) but we didn't take advantage. If you stay here, might try Wooly's for dinner. We enjoyed the prime rib and walleye.

Review 46:Not the hotels fault but there was confusion with the reservation. I had 4 adults but booking system only had the option of 2 adults and 2 children. Upon check in I was told I had to pay more money than expected. Not happy about that. Breakfast was pretty lame. Basically donuts from the convenience store (the little round white ones) and coffee. Not what I call a breakfast.

Review 47:Room was clean and comfortable.

Review 48:This is an older property that is constantly being upgraded and is very well maintained. The room was fresh and immaculate and the front desk delightful.

Review 49:Our introduction of what a "motel" was to our 10 year old! Loved the old motel feel of this very clean facility. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely come back again!

Review 50:Booking.com told us there was a roll-away bed. Wally apologized and gave us a larger room and told us they have never had roll- away beds. Booking needs to confirm their information.

Review 51:Wally the owner was super nice and helpful and always seemed to be available. Hot Springs was a cute little town in a very picturesque location. Room was clean.

Review 52:Cute little old-style motel. Kids loved the mini golf course. Clean, comfortable. The owner was really nice - gave us towels to take to Evans plunge so we didn't have to tore wet towels the rest of our vacation

Review 53:No complaints

Review 54:Wally was accommodating and the place was well taken care of and clean. Very motorcycle friendly as well as he let me park under the awning in front of my room because of possible hail. Provided towels to clean the bike too. Nice people. Great shower too!

Review 55:Manager eager to help, warned us that a road we'd planned to take through Wyoming had been washed out by flooding the day before and suggested an alternate route, opened up minigolf just for us. Nice guy. Room was pretty standard but clean and comfortable.

Review 56:Nothing

Review 57:The owner was very helpful, lent us extra towels to use at local swimming pool, told us about the town/area, opened up the mini-golf late in the evening

Review 58:Staff was very friendly. A\the facility has been beautifully maintained, is very clean and the price is very good considering it is tourist season in the Black Hills. We would stay again!

Review 59:Bed too hard, lighting poor, and TV volume was "set" on low side. Few breakfast choices, but did find a fresh banana.

Review 60:Older property but clean and functional. No frills and very accessible.

Review 61:As he said, 'the best breakfast item here is the mini chocolate donuts, because they're easy to prepare. Lots of good breakfast places in town....

Review 62:Cheerful office manager fully in tune with the town's military veteran theme. Full of stories.

Review 63:no option to get a late check-out, but it's a small town & was off season.

Review 64:staff helped us with area restaurants & tourist info. convenient, refrigerator in room.

Review 65:The included breakfast is minor, don't expect much.

Review 66:An old Mom and Pop motel, but so well kept up it feels much newer. A great deal of attention to detail is evident. This is uncharacteristic of old small motels. One thing I liked was the parking lot has been repaved to eliminate steps up to the sidewalk in front of each unit, making it easier to just roll in your suitcases. Another example is a beautiful recliner chair and footrest in our unit to watch TV or just relax. The manager was very friendly and helpful to me.

Review 67:Had to go outside of room to access Wi-Files, but there were benches available.

Review 68:Frig & microwave in room, comfortable bed, at the door parking for ground floor rooms. Owner was very attentive to needs.

Review 69:A very small quibble would be the continental breakfast. It was fine - cereal, toast, bagels and calorific buns with tea and coffee. However at bit of healthy fruit would have been a welcome addition.

Review 70:Our room was clean and very spacious. The two queen beds were very comfortable. The air conditioning worked well and wasn't too noisy. The owner was very helpful. The whole site was in good order and well maintained. And best of all the price was very reasonable.

Review 71:The hotel was rated higher than it should have been - everything is dated - the breakfast was very cheap

Review 72:Liked the miniature golf The manager was very nice

Review 73:I thought Evans Plunge was a little run down from last time and the bed was harder than I'm used to so didn't sleep very well.

Review 74:Love the area in the Black Hills. Close to Custer and Hill City. Stop there when traveling through just to go to Evans Plunge. Staff was very helpful and very forth coming with suggestions on where to eat, what to see, and anything else we ask.

Review 75:Breakfast was small with few options, but for the price we paid to have any breakfast included was a bonus.

Review 76:Owner Wally was very friendly and did everything he could to make our stay pleasant. Good location for wind cave and other black hills attractions

Review 77:Breakfast area was a little crowded during busy mornings. Breakfast food offering was pretty basic, but enough to get our kids fed and out the door.

Review 78:Staff was very friendly. Pool and Mini golf next door were fun evening activities for our family. Microwave/fridge were great. Could keep lunch and snack items cold without having to keep refilling cooler with ice. Close to all activities in Hot Springs, but would be quite a drive to Mt. Rushmore.

Review 79:The wi-fi could have been better especially with two kids.

Review 80:The staff was great. They helped with everything. We even changed our trip a little to stay there an extra day! The pool was fun for my boys and the beds were very comfy.

Review 81:We would have liked to see a better breakfast.

Review 82:We enjoyed the comfort and the service. And the quietness of the location. Our Grand-kids really enjoyed the pool plus the mini golf.

Review 83:The amount of flies that were in our room when we got there, had to kill a bunch of them when we first arrived.

Review 84:The owner was very informative about area, also had a place we could store our trailer since we brought our motorcycle up on it. Kept our room with clean towels and no one ever bothered us. Was quiet during the Sturgis rally, slept very well.

Review 85:The folks operating the facility were great, the rooms we clean , roomy and comfortable The pool was clean and well maintained, overall we plan to stay again. ..... The Huddleson's

Review 86:Our short stay! I wish I have more time to spend at Hills Inn.

Review 87:I love the pool! It is the most clean and delighted pool I had ever been! I was amazed with the cleanliness of the bathroom: impeccable white! I'm already planning my next year vacation allowing more days at Hills Inn.

Review 88:It is an older hotel and they crammed bed into the rooms a little cramped, but we just slept there one night. THe bed were hard. The breakfast consited of cereal and packaged donuts. Not a big deal for us we went to the local diner and ate on our way out of town.

Review 89:The location and view was specatacular. The owner was nice and let us place mini golf until dark. We arrived late. It was clean and quiet lots of families.

Review 90:The smell in the rooms. It was old and musty. Didn't like the loud air con. Didn't like the towels small, threadbare, some white some a yellowish grey. Nasty!

Review 91:This motel is very clean, located close to the Mammoth Site. Great owners, clean pool and very spacious room. This place is a good spot to visit Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave State Park and of course Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial.

Review 92:I didn't get offered a military discount and I neglected to remember on my own...I probably could have saved a few bucks, especially since we stayed there for 11 nights...

Review 93:Location, location, location...they are located about 250 yards from where my son and his wife and my grandsons live..

Review 94:Our bed had a lot of hair in it, so we slept on sleeping bags on top of the comforter. Also the breakfast was very meager, just cereal, toast, bagels and store bought chocolate mini doughnuts. We had to go find breakfast somewhere else.

Review 95:I liked the mini golf that came with the rooms! The staff were very nice and friendly.

Review 96:Owner is originally from Poland and interesting to visit with.

Review 97:noisy fan in bedroom

Review 98:Wally most helpful. Very clean and comfortable room. Beautiful big screen TV. Great location.

Review 99:We were greeted in a friendly manner. The staff was knowledgeable of the area. Over all stay was an outstanding experience.

Review 100:Friendly and helpful owner. Great location

Review 101:Room displays signs of aging a little.

Review 102:- The owner is very nice and has a great personality. - Motel is in a great location and close to everything.

Review 103:The owner is awesome. Very clean room. Nice quiet location.

Review 104:Great place, great owner, not a lot of places left like this.

Review 105:Friendly staff good clean facilities

Review 106:Breakfast adequate but nothing special.

Review 107:Proximity to Mt. Rushmore and national parks. Staff very friendly.

Review 108:The price

Review 109:The breakfast was really below par

Review 110:Clean, quiet motel, easy access off highway. Adequate continental breakfast. The owners are very friendly and welcoming.

Review 111:Pretty basic, breakfast could use improvement

Review 112:Very clean, well kept

Review 113:good value, clean and quiet. nothing fancy but very relaxing

Review 114:Clean, quiet, convenient to down town.
