Reviews for Spanish Villa Inn
Review 1:Recognizing that this is an old structure still the bathroom facilities, although clean, were too cramped and no room for personal items. The promised breakfast: warm or no coffee, hardboiled egg. Had to drive into St. Helena for breakfast. Mediocrity is the accepted rule in this town, too bad.
Review 2:Imagine it's charming in the summer. We came into town to attend our son's two day wedding event. In Nov. it's gloomy. Finding suitable and fair priced places to stay is impossible.
Review 3:There was not a television in the bedroom and we could have used a few more things in the bathroom like hair conditioner, a shower cap and a robe. The breakfast was the same every morning, a little variety would have been nice
Review 4:The location was great, private and very beautiful. Our host Roy was wonderful, very friendly and a fascinating man. The beds were so so comfortable and a beautiful bathroom
Review 5:A tad on the pricy side.
Review 6:Lovely facilities, and most gracious and generous host who assured our complete comfort. Perfect for our family mini-reunion gathering.
Review 7:They should have had more than Yoplait Yogurt and Safeway Bagels and Muffins for breakfast...they needed to change it up a bit. Same thing everyday gets old and takes away from the idea of B&B
Review 8:Phil was a great host
Review 9:I was greeted warmly by the Manager Phil, the room was beautiful with a patio overlooking a beautiful expansive grassy area and the bed was incredibly comfy with beautiful linens. Breakfast and coffee were plentiful and tasty. My stay was perfect.
Review 10:Nothing bad at all
Review 11:This was a laid back atmosphere that had a wonderful staff. A very quaint spot to spend the night. Very easy to be there. Fruit trees in the yard, period decor and a good breakfast in a good atmosphere.
Review 12:The common spaces of the house had an old musty smell. Facilities in the room were rudimentary. Poor sound insulation between rooms. Breakfast adequate at best. Decor outdated.
Review 13:This is an OK place, but not worth the price they charge.
Review 14:Phil was exemplary - we had read from prior reviews that he was incredibly helpful and this was confirmed during our stay. Clean place. Slightly dated but pleasant, beautiful garden, central. Would stay again.
Review 15:No fan in the room we stayed in (though the temperature outside wasn't too hot thankfully).
Review 16:The staff was absolutely awesome. Phil was so helpful. Free breakfast (bagels, yogurt, fruit, milk, coffee, juice) is a bonus. The grounds are beautiful and make you feel like you're the only BB in the area.
Review 17:At some places, renovation is needed, e.g. bathrooms.
Review 18:Ecxellent location, near a road, but still quiet. Phil the manager and staff were so incredibly friendly, made us feel at home! Beds very comfy! Lots of attention to detail. Beautiful linen and breakfast dishes. Enjoyed fresh figs from the garden.
Review 19:Phil was just a terrific guy. He went out of his way to make us comfortable. The grounds were lovely -- lots of flowers and fruit trees and it was very quiet, which was great.
Review 20:1. sound insulation should be improved - we woke up when next room was having a phone call at 5a.m.
Review 21:1. really personal attitude in a very friendly way; the place does not really feel like a hotel - it feels more like staying at a friend's villa 2. perfect bed 3. good espresso and fresh strawberries for breakfast 4. fast WiFi 5. private terrace with exit to the garden
Review 22:Excellent service. Good price. Very nice accommodations. My only complaint is specific to our room. The room above ours needs to have better sound insulation. Wonderful stay otherwise.
Review 23:Great service from the staff. Very considerate
Review 24:Perfect night star views. Clear and comfortable rooms. Perfect owner who is language prof. And smiley. Close to Napa valley and St.Helena where you can eat good food. Don't forget to enjoy the nature ..
Review 25:There is nothing I didn't like.
Review 26:What a lovely, lovely experience staying here was. I loved everything about it. Such a peaceful, beautiful place to stay. Thank you!!
Review 27:Would have liked coffee to be available at 6:30.
Review 28:IPhil is perfectly cast as a kind, helpful and most informative Innkeeper. He treated us as though we were guests in his own home.
Review 29:The ambiance was so inviting and relaxing, you'd never know you were 3 minutes from downtown St. Helena. Ron and Phil were excellent hosts: always solicitous, welcoming, helpful. They remembered our names! (We'd never stayed there before) Excellent value and comfortable...like staying in your own (bigger and better) home, with some one to clean and make your breakfast everyday. :)
Review 30:Sound proofing in the rooms isnt 100% but all the guests were very thoughtful so noise was not a problem.
Review 31:Loved the Garden! Breakfast was spot on (I dont like heavy breakfasts) and wifi worked well for us.
Review 32:Breakfast was bagels, boiled eggs and Yoplait. It would be nice to have some granola and/or oatmeal; cold cheese or meat - some non bread options.
Review 33:Private patio, fruit trees on the property and the staff invited us to help ourselves. Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff
Review 34:The musty, mildewy odor once you walk in, especially up the stairs where our room was located. Our screen door to the patio had holes in it and hung off its track, permanently. Just a lot of TLC and regular maintenance missing. The windows were generally filthy, as was our chair in the room. The breakfasts were the same each of the 4 days we were there, softboiled eggs, bagels/muffins, strawberries, coffee and juice. No creativity whatsoever. The WiFi connection was very weak. No TV in our room. It felt like a dungeon in our room. No hooks to hang clothes. Some of the electrical outlets didn't work. I just get the impression that Phil has enough occupancy without having to renovate and do the simple repairs that make a stay more comfortable.
Review 35:Spanish Villa was available on short notice and its location was convenient. The grounds seemed to be well-maintained, unlike the interior. Phil, the owner/proprietor, was very kind and hospitable, but it didn't seem like he had a pulse on the wine country scene. He was not familiar with most of the wineries I questioned him about, and the same applies to restaurants. Unfortunate for an innkeeper to be so distant to what is going on under his nose.
Review 36:Loved the bed and breakfast . Only thing missing would be a glass of wine as an evening option but they did have wine glasses in the room and a frig available :).
Review 37:The location was great and grounds were so pretty. We were really impressed with the hospitality of the owner and the manager. They made us feel at home and made sure we had everything we needed for a good stay. The breakfast was perfect and they were so accommodating. I enjoyed the personal service. If I am ever in the area I would definitely stay here again.
Review 38:The staff was extremely pleasant and accommodating. The setting was quiet and lovely - set well away from traffic, surrounded by trees and beautiful gardens, but still minutes from St Helena and all activities. The rooms were great...beautifully furnished and comfortable. I would stay here if I return, and I would definitely recommend this inn to anyone.
Review 39:Wifi was good in the library but limited in our room.
Review 40:Great staff. Room was clean, spacious and spa-like. The grounds were large and lovely. Would definitely stay there again. Thank you Phil, the Innkeeper, for making our stay so wonderful.
Review 41:Occasional noise from late-night revelling and daytime leaf-blowing (orsimilar activity), none caused by the Spanish Villa Inn
Review 42:Friendly attention, location far enough from busy roads to be peacefulfor most of the time, pleasant room.
Review 43:This was one of the best B&B experiences we have ever had. The grounds were beautiful and the room was very comfortable. Our host, Phil, was wonderful and his friendliness was genuine. By the time we left, we felt like we were leaving old friends. Overall, the experience exceeded our expectations by far. We will be back.
Review 44:There was a child snuck in above us that clomped on the floors from 6:00 am on. It wasn't the proprietors fault although we weren't offered any discount because of it. The B&B didn't have a typical breakfast but had only a continental breakfast! We felt cheated with that also.
Review 45:We loved the grounds! They were very nice and the patios with our rooms!
Review 46:Breakfast was meager. For this visit it didn't matter because we had plans anyway. But this is only bed & breakfast I have ever stayed at that offered a continental breakfast. Room was stuffy, no a/c but was tolerable after slider was open for awhile.
Review 47:Beds and staff were great!
Review 48:We absolutely loved our stay at the Spanish Villa Inn. Right in the heart of St Helena, we planned our winery tour to end near the hotel and it was perfect. We were greeted upon arrival and everything was taken care of from that point forward. Adorable room, with comfortable king sized bed and private bathroom and fenced in patio. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. I highly recommend keeping your Napa Getaway special by staying here!
Review 49:There was no television in the room. (We did not want to watch TV in the living room with other people.) Sound seemed amplified at times, probably due to tile floors throughout.
Review 50:Great proximity to downtown St. Helena. Secluded; private entrance to our room. Breakfast was simple, but very good. Loved having the ability to have a cup of hot tea at night! Our host, Phil, was VERY nice, very helpful.
Review 51:The grounds were beautiful, and the setting is very relaxing! Phil who runs the B&B was amazing! He took such great care of all of us, we had a large group. This is the place to stay!
Review 52:The was nothing we did not like. Our stay was absolutely perfect.
Review 53:The moment we entered the Spanish Villa Inn we felt like we were home. The manager was so inviting and helpful. The Inn is beautiful and all the details and comforts to make you feel so right at home. The rooms were spotless and so nicely decorated. Breakfast was elagantly served. Fresh fruit, bagels,Yogurt, eggs and the best coffee. The manager took care of every detail. We will definitely be back for another wonderful stay at the Spanish Villa Inn.
Review 54:The owner is very sweet and accommodating he drove us to a wedding volunteered to my husband his tie. The place is very comfortable and we will be staying there again
Review 55:Phil was very welcoming and a great host. The location was easy to find and the views in the backyard/patio were lovely. It was a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Review 56:The wonderful ambience and the privacy. It's like being in a small inn in Spain or France! We will definitely return when visiting Napa Valley.
Review 57:Wifi was basically useless in my room only good signal in shared spaces No tv or other electronic amenities
Review 58:The inn keeper was great Building is nice and homey
Review 59:NOISE LEVEL, WALLS ARE PAPER THIN. EAST FACING ROOM SMELLED OF CLEANING FLUIDS & MOLD. WIFI WAS SKETCHIE. NO AMENITIES/EXTRAS OTHER THAN COLD CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST.
Review 60:LOVELY GROUNDS. ACCOMMODATING & WELCOMING INNKEEPER.
Review 61:Bedroom very sparcely furnished, no reading lamps or comfortable chairs. Dark communal sitting rooms.Plumming needs upgrading.
Review 62:Innkeeper is most welcoming & accommodating. Grounds are lovely.Rooms are very clean.
Review 63:The place it self seemed outdated, needs a facelift.
Review 64:The property is beautiful and the inn keepers are very friendly and gracious. The bed was very comfortable.
Review 65:The people who were next to and above us had no consideration for those of us who wanted to relax and go to sleep. The walls are very thin and as such you could hear every word and sound coming from their rooms. They were very loud until the early hours of the morning.
Review 66:We felt that Phil was a great host and took care of all our needs. He even drove us to and from our evening activities. A real plus so we did not have to drive.
Review 67:We just LOVED the Spanish Villa Inn. My mom and I came into town for a visit with my brother, and though this place is meant more for a couple looking for a quiet, romantic stay, we still had a lovely stay. Phil, the inn keeper, was wonderful! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the property and the area, and his passion for what he does shown through his speech. I can't say enough good things about this Inn (more like a B&B) or Phil and the owner, Roy. Highly recommended!
Review 68:I think that the problem here is more with the website than the hotel. The website didn't tell us there was no tv in the room, no wifi in the room, and no phone reception at the property. After running around, you want some basic comforts. This place needs an update. It could be much nicer.
Review 69:The staff and library was great. The staff was incredibly nice.
Review 70:Wifi was a little spotty but this place is an escape so it was somewhat a blessing. Rooms are close so you can hear other guests but nothing too disturbing
Review 71:The bed was incredibly comfortable!! Phil was very accommodating and even drove us downtown for our reservations. Breakfast was lovely, and there's a large bocce ball court if you want to spend some time at the inn.
Review 72:There's nothing that I didn't like.
Review 73:We loved the room (Barcelona Room) which had a private patio that overlooked the grounds (we even got some writing done at the table outside), comfy bed, and was intimate and romantic. The grounds were lovely and perfect for a stroll. Fruit trees! Location was convenient to downtown St. Helena and the many wineries. The owner Phil was gracious and helpful.
Review 74:Everything was as described with great hospitality and friendliness. The innkeeper, Phil, was most gracious and very accommodating. We lacked for nothing and felt very at home. We would definitely return to the inn.
Review 75:Not a thing!
Review 76:We knew that this place would be even more special when Phil was the only person/place that responded back to us after we asked all of our hotels if they could do anything special for us as we were on our honeymoon and travelling the US for 6weeks. Phil was able to offer us the best room at the Spanish Villa where we had our separate little terrace and entrance to the back garden. The room had such a lovely romantic ambience about it where you could truly just stay in bed all day if you weren’t tempted by the allure of visiting the various beautiful wineries on offer in and around St Helena. Phil and Roy (Proprieter) made all the difference when staying at the Spanish Villa. They go out of there way to get to know you, make you feel comfortable and just happy staying with them. They had great knowledgeable recommendations of the best restauarants, bars and wineries to visit. And what was the sweetest thing was that Phil dropped us off and picked us up from Farmstead Restaurant (must visit!!) so that my hubby could have a few drinks. So unexpected but just goes to show how much they will go out of their way so that they are sure you are happy and having a great time staying at the Spanish Villa. We always looked forward to breakfast too as they have a great selection and we particulartly loved the granola. Plus it’s as always a good chance to have a catch up with Phil if you had any questions or needed any recommendations for the day ahead. Phil/Roy- it was our first time in Napa Valley and you have truly made it a special place to visit. We loved the fact that you take so much joy and pleasure in seeing people enjoying themselves and having a good time. Love that you guys are so personable and on a first name’s basis. We can’t recommend this place enough to everyone as they will not be disappointed when staying at the Spanish Villa.
Review 77:Perhaps because we have never stayed in a B&B before, my husband and I felt a bit like visitors in someone else's home initially. This wore off by the second night. The main way this impacted us was that we did not feel that we had the same level of privacy, as in a hotel setting.
Review 78:Phil was a wonderful innkeeper who went out of his way to ensure our comfort and enjoyment of our stay! The bed was really comfy and tempted me to stay in it all day! However, it was worth it to get up and explore the valley. We were very closely located to many vineyards and wineries so with-in a few minutes drive, we were able to begin enjoying wine tasting. Phil gave us some excellent recommendations and even had some coupons to help with the cost. Though we were the only young couple there, we also quite enjoyed the other inn guests and got to know them over the breakfast. We will definitely return!
Review 79:Attentive, kind and caring. The Spanish Villa provides the best B&B experience. Lovely rooms, comfortable beds and clean rooms which may have a door to the outside. Philip is the consumate caretaker.
Review 80:Serene setting with lovely accommodations. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast on the following morning was just perfect. Phil and Roy were the perfect hosts. Many thanks for such a delightful stay.
Review 81:Thin walls. Can hear people coming & going. Can hear people upstairs. Try to get the upstairs room. It's probably more quiet than the downstairs rooms.
Review 82:Great Breakfast. Great grounds. Fresh figs to pick in yard for your breakfast. Wish we had some more time to use the bocce court. Cozy bed.
Review 83:Nothing, great place to stay in Napa
Review 84:Young couple, stayed 1 night in Napa here. Excellent choice. We will be back next year for a longer stay. Excellent price, cleanliness, staff was extremely friendly and helpful, cozy, very cool grounds, very close to uptown area with restaurants. Really interesting building and grounds as well. Staff went well to make our short stay memorable. Well be back.
Review 85:My wife and I stayed at the Spanish Villa Inn along with another couple. The location was perfect and the Inn itself was cozy. We picked up some wine, cheese, bread and some italian meats in St Helena at the end of our day and relaxed under the grotto for a couple of hours before dinner. Perfect. Phil was great and was extremely helpful. We got a chance to meet the owner (Roy) in the morning during breakfast and had a very nice conversation. We also met several people from around the country and the world who were also staying at the Inn. We would certainly come back.
Review 86:Our stay at the Spanish Villa Inn was absolutely wonderful! The proprietor, Roy, was so welcoming and friendly, and very concerned about making sure were comfortable and had everything we needed. The location, a short drive to downtown St. Helena was great -- a quiet, peaceful setting. We will stay again if we visit the same area.
Review 87:The only negative i had was that one of the dressers in the room had a nail or screw popping out inside the drawer which could have damaged clothing. Fortunately, it didn't happen to me.
Review 88:The location for what we were doing was excellent. The owners could not have been more friendly or willing to help. The room was certainly ample and was cleaned every day.
Review 89:My husband and I spent the night here with family visiting from out of town. We got a kick out of the innkeeper who made us laugh over breakfast and who could impersonate anyone. It made the trip fun, personable and memorable.
Review 90:Nothing
Review 91:Phil and Roy were great. The grounds are beautiful! The breakfast was perfect. Loved the juice combo, Phil. Met wonderful people there. Every night we sat in the living area enjoying a glass of wine and talked about our day adventures.
Review 92:This is not a pompous hotel/Inn. A place to relax before and after driving in wine county. The individual attention by Roy and Phil made our two night stay very relaxing and memorable. The grounds are beautiful to enjoy and to take postcard type pictures. The morning coffee was great. The interaction with other guests at breakfast was also a highlight. We will spread the word about this hidden gem and will return next year!
Review 93:Two gathering raeas, one is right by a block of rooms, very noisy. Not really a B&B. No full breakfast just fruits and pastries.
Review 94:Location was great, staff was helpful. Grounds are beautiful
Review 95:The Inn was beautiful and provided exactly what we were looking for in wine country. Phil was the most gracious host - he even gave us a ride into town and picked us up in the evening. We would definitely stay here again!
Review 96:The walls were a bit thin and I was hoping for a hot breakfast.
Review 97:The location was nice and a little secluded. The owner was funny and very helpful. It was clean and charming.
Review 98:Some difficulty with internet service, given the mountainous location.
Review 99:Location was excellent, off of the main highway, very quiet, yet extremely convenient to everything within the northern end of Napa Valley. Owner was extremely courteous and helpful.
Review 100:No TV, inconsistent Wifi, room in need of a paint job, more shelf/counter space needed in bathroom, better lighting in bathroom, needed bedside lighting. Just small fixes would make this place a 10. As is about a 7.
Review 101:Staff was excellent, breakfasts enjoyable, proximity to CIA good. Serene, pleasant grounds, beautiful setting.
Review 102:Entrance was dark and uninviting . The whole place was dark... Very poor lighting.breckfast was good .. Very sparse on choice also ran out of granola .
Review 103:Price was good
Review 104:We felt like we were home! The owner and staff were there to satisfyevery need. When we checked out Roy, the owner, wasn't available tosee us off so he called us in ny a few days later to apologize and thankus for choosing Spanish Villa! Fabulous!,
Review 105:The entire house (b&b) needs renovating, felt like I was at grandma's house. The patio's could be really nice if upgraded
Review 106:Location and area was good
Review 107:Breakfast could use greater variety of items; Cereals, juices, breads.
Review 108:Friendly staff. Lovely grounds. Nice quiet location. Fantastic strawberries at breakfast.
Review 109:A tired property. Some misrepresentation, picture on web site is of the owners section, guest section has very inadequate balconies poorly furnished. Awful air conditioning, no controls in rooms, very cold & bad smell.
Review 110:location of the villa in a more natural setting but close to vineyards & st. Helena. Comfortable beds, & nice bedding. Adequate bathroom facilities.
Review 111:Toilets, WiFi(almost non existent) and thin walls.
Review 112:The staff: Phil & Roy - the most pleasant and helpful house manager and owner I've ever experienced. Wonderful, made us overlook everything that could of been negative.
Review 113:A ceiling fan would be nice:)
Review 114:Charming! A very friendly, clean & comfortable place to stay with a great location. The beds were great!! Our host Phil was so helpful and informative. He really made us feel like family. We will definitely stay again
Review 115:quiet
Review 116:Breakfast was not up to par for the price of a B&B; actually very poor.
Review 117:Nothing - everything was great!
Review 118:Phil was great. Helped us with information, was available, and very friendly.
Review 119:They were booked and could not stay an additional night.
Review 120:The comfort of feeling like u were home.
Review 121:the whole atmosphere was a little dark
Review 122:very European experience
Review 123:The Villa was well located with an incredibly friendly staff and clean, comfortable accommodations. I highly recommend it.
