Reviews for Hanalei Bay Resort

Review 1:Paper thin walls- could hear everything the toom beside us was doing. Plus they charge $25 for the hospitality suite, and it's not private and the shower is in the bathroom by the pools.

Review 2:Gorgeous setting!

Review 3:Dingy and dark lower corner "hotel" room was actually a lock out with very little noise or odor control from the master suite next door. Also, it smelled a little musty. Restaurant and bar onsite were under renovation, so no food amenities.

Review 4:Location

Review 5:I didn't like the fact that they only offer housekeeping if you stay longer than 4 days so you have to do your own housekeeping :(

Review 6:The facilities are great! Very modern, clean and luxurious. The views are phenomenal!!

Review 7:Hotel Situated in a very beautiful area. Has amazing outdoors Spa/Jacuzzi with the waterfalls and big pool. Tennis courts. Our room was freshly renovated, beautiful and very spacious. We definitely enjoyed our stay at Hanalei Bay Resort and would consider this hotel for our next trip to Kauai.

Review 8:the pull out sofa bed in the studio room. wrong decision.

Review 9:hotel staff were very warm, friendly and most helpful. loved the maitai Monday drinks by the pool ! location was great with shops nearby. room was a good size and had everything we needed.

Review 10:Colleen and Jessica at the front desk were top notch! Mike at the bell stand was tremendously helpful as well! The hotel is a great deal, but with it's location, having a car is really helpful!

Review 11:Restaurant under refurbishment - *no* food or drinks available within reasonable walking distance at all. Don't come unless you have a car and enjoy near constant construction noise.

Review 12:The location is nice if you have a car to get around with.

Review 13:It's a great location with a very helpful staff and all the amenities I was looking for. I got an excellent room too. It definitely has the "Aloha" spirit.

Review 14:How can Booking allow to book a room without a bed????? It is not even in the description of the room!!! Otherwise we would never have booked it. Hotel staff was able to "upgrade" us to get a room with a bed, what a joke! 10$ extra per night to pay!!! Plus the "resort fee" that are overly expensive for a pool that you won't use anyway given all the beautiful beaches in the area! This is simply outrageous and unacceptable! You have to walk next to trash bins and "behind the seen" where employees have all their construction materials to get to your room. Then you have to go down 4 flights of stairs to get to your underground room! This was just the worse experience I had ever! for such a high price!

Review 15:Absolutely nothing...

Review 16:We had to wait over an hour and a half to get our room. We had called ahead of time and were told it would be ready, and then to our disappointment it was not. Check in day turned out to be a complete wasted day due to waiting around.

Review 17:The restaurant was under construction while we were there. Although I really can't hold that against the review as I understand that things need to be updated every now and again.this technicality would not stop me from recommending a stay here.

Review 18:The grounds are beautifully manicured and the pool is fabulous. The seating to watch the sunset was a gift. Certainly, One of the most beautiful places to stay on the island.

Review 19:I didn't like that there was no restaurant, and housekeeping missed a day. I could deal with the hideaway bed, but wish the couch was more comfortable while the bed was tucked away.

Review 20:I loved Mai Tai Monday! I loved the grounds, the pool, and my room was in a great location on the property. My room in general I loved, the full kitchen was to die for as well as the spacious bathroom!

Review 21:The room was not great. The room was joined to another room & the girl next door "since the door was left opened, i thought i could just move in". Last room, so we had to wait for it to be cleaned. Oh yeah the had our reservation for next month?? They said that had happened a couple of times.

Review 22:I didn't like that it took 2 phone calls for me to inquire about check in. I didn't like that it was under construction... The fact that there was no restaurant/breakfast service/alternative available was disappointing. The noise from the pool was anything but relaxing. I also didn't like that when I called for the coffee I had to call 2x before anyone at the front desk answered.

Review 23:I liked the quick delivery of regular coffee when requested to my room. I liked the quantity of parking spaces. I liked the fact that they offered cart service to the beach. I liked the availability of multiple pool loungers and tennis courts.

Review 24:The location, the fact it had no bed. ( not into sleeping on a pullout couch ) No restaurant, no bar, no near by beach. Having to walk thru the maintenance crew garage and bumpster area to get to our room.

Review 25:The view from our room.

Review 26:Parking is frequently far from room (although bellboys with golf carts can help with check-in, etc.). Maintenance and trash area strangely located on the path between parking lot and rooms on one side of the property, making it necessary to walk by roosters rooting through garbage and workers swearing at each other, which was a very strange juxtaposition to the otherwise beautiful campus. Also, some poor attention to detail in rooms - fitted sheet did not fit well and frequently came undone at night, phone was hung on the wall by one screw, toppling side-to-side with exposed phone wiring, DVD player was missing cable connecting to TV, A/C was missing controller (both issues were resolved with calls to the front desk), laundry facilities had multiple washers and dryers that were out of order.

Review 27:Beautiful grounds, pool, terrific beach (via short path from the resort) with great snorkeling. Kitchen in one-bedroom suite was fantastic, cabinetry newly remodeled.

Review 28:We did not like the check in experience, very long and not pleasant. The bed was a couch bed and very old style. Not comfortable at all. It was ok for 2 nights but could not have stayed longer.

Review 29:We loved the garden and woods all around the place. it was also a very nice kitchen. It was wonderful to see all of the birds and take walks to the beach.

Review 30:The studio apartment only had a fold out bed that was very uncomfortable. Staff helped us to find another room for the second half of our stay.

Review 31:The location - a short walk to a beautiful beach and a wonderful pool just outside our room. Staff and guests were so friendly. The most beautiful views of anywhere we have stayed.

Review 32:No restaraunts (under construction ) have to leave grounds to get food or even a snack. pool under construction (sore sight). Carts driving around are super loud, but they use the carts to bring people to their condos because there is no close parking. Limited parking for 15.00 a day.

Review 33:We enjoyed views, room was clean, updated bathrooms are nice.beach close and good location for northshore attractions. Free mai tais hour by the pool in the late afternoon.

Review 34:Feels run down and in need of some TLC. Crowd is mature.

Review 35:The pool looked great but it was raining so we didn't get to enjoy it. Not too far to drive down to the beach, resturants and pier for an amazing sunset.

Review 36:I'm no hotel guru, but I've stayed in a couple in my time. Pretty sure Hotel 101 starts... with a bed. The rest of the room really goes from there. A list of things we did have in our room: pyrex bowls (3), industrial vacuum (1), glass dining room table (c. 1970), Ginsu knives (full set). A list of things we didn't have in our room: a bed. Luckily, I've been to college and summoned my inner 'couch crasher' and located the broke-down-palace of a couch hide-a-bed. If the eery squeaks and creaks of the springs weren't enough foreshadowing, the 3am wake up call from my spine (and my wife's) really hammered it home. Finally dragged the mattress (see, loose interpretation) onto the floor for a 30% increase in comfort, or at least mitigation of pain. I have to applaud the designer of this room for picking out a wonderful knife set to complement the fridge, but a stellar bed might've been a better purchase. My only other comment would be in regard to the overhaul hotel management has decided to enact on the entire entryway and main floor of the lobby. The check-in desk and Koi-starter pond were functioning, but everything else was deep in demo and reconstruction. I noticed there were two distinct sides to this main floor. Might've been a better move to execute this in phases as opposed to wiping out the entire entryway of your hotel. End of the day, we had a great laugh at the ridiculousness of the whole adventure. If you're in it for that, this is the hotel for you. Otherwise, it's a bit of a stiff bill to stomach for a chuckle.

Review 37:Laughing at general ridiculousness of hotel room layout. Oh... and checking out.

Review 38:We knew in advance there wasn't a bar or restaurant on location, but would have loved one. I know it's on the works!

Review 39:Beautiful view from our balcony!

Review 40:There is no opportunity at all to eat or drink within the property. No restaurant, no bar. For this reason, I do not recommend staying in the hotel unit, but in the condos. The options for restaurants/cafes/grocery stores are far away. You need a car.

Review 41:The pool is amazing. Perfect for toddlers and for grown-ups. Also a semi-private beach is within 10 min walk. Perfect spot for snorkelling. Rooms are very clean and the staff could not be more helpful and pleasant :-)

Review 42:The sofa bed was the worst I ever slept on. Looked nice but I could feel every single spring. Definitely not acceptable for accommodations in this price class. Room was overstuffed with furniture.

Review 43:location, views from lanai, full kitchen.

Review 44:Too many early morning roasters - wake up calls not requested.

Review 45:Free yoga classes early morning to vitalise enery leves and start the day HAPPY, great locación to cruise whole East Shore and North Beach Delicios buffet breakfast and great Bay view. Best if you choose The bsy front cottages. Will definitely return SOMEDAY if The Lord allows me

Review 46:I'm really not a "resort person" - I prefer to have a hotel room with mini-fridge and microwave and I can make do if it's near some shops and cafes. This place is sprawling - and you practically have to have a staff person take you from place to place in a golf cart, if you've got any physical limitations. There were probably 15-20 similar 'resorts' in the same complex, so it was very confusing to me. Parking was awful - they didn't have nearly enough parking. The 'on-site restaurant' is just an empty building, but the staff says it's being remodeled and will reopen soon. But a lady I spoke with who has a timeshare in the complex told me they've said that for 2 or 3 years and no progress has been made. It would be nice to have a place on-site to get a light breakfast or snack instead of making it yourself or driving 30 minutes. Also - I got a studio with a sofa hide-a-bed and after the first night, I just slept on the sofa without folding the bed out. Much more comfortable than the thin hide-a-bed mattress and the bed frame in my back all night.

Review 47:The staff was great! So kind and helpful - but that's what they're paid for, right? But the staff is really nice. The view from, I think, any of the units must be as gorgeous and tropical as the one in which I stayed - it was nice to have a lanai with chairs and a table to relax and enjoy coffee or an evening of reading. The condo/unit was well-appointed and very comfortable. It had all the basics one would want for a "home away from home" - including a large Kitchenaid blender for making those tropical drinks!

Review 48:Place was run down. Restaurant burned down tree year ago and still wasn't rebuild. Everywhere you looked there was something partially constructed but not finished.

Review 49:Great view

Review 50:Had a pull out bed to sleep on with a terrible mattress; no proper bedding; cockroaches in the sink; paper thin walls; no restaurant; no bar and yet you had to pay a resort fee

Review 51:grounds is about all is nice with this place

Review 52:- the staff did not make much effort to accommodate my request for early check-in - the accommodation was under significant renovation and would have expected better rates - no restaurants or convenience stores within easy reach - the pull out bed had very lumpy mattress

Review 53:Both the restaurant and spa/jacuzzi were under construction and we felt very misled by the descriptions of the facilities and amenities. Save your money and stay elsewhere! Cannot recommend at all

Review 54:Resturant facilities for the start and end of the day would be nice.

Review 55:The grounds and staff were excellent, orchids everywhere. The location on the island is superb. I will stay there again

Review 56:We were placed in a third floor unit with a great view and laundry. The place was bigger than we expected with a huge balcony.

Review 57:no kitchen facilities, no microwave, no maid service no restaurant on site

Review 58:my room had a jungle view it was updated and super clean and quiet. Loved the pool and jacuzzi and short walk to beach.

Review 59:The location view of ocean and Napali mountains and path to ocean, fab grounds

Review 60:Amazing views--perfect location

Review 61:Just hoping that the restaurant, lounge, and pool bar will be open soon!

Review 62:Staff was wonderful, location is ideal, and grounds are well maintained.

Review 63:Thhe bed was not comfortable.

Review 64:I loved the beautiful grounds and the pools. The pool was salt water, which I appreciated.

Review 65:Didn't report it but sliding door in 9223 won't lock

Review 66:The kitchen, friendly employees

Review 67:restaurant closed for refurb. Bed provided is a sofa bed which is unmade on arrival

Review 68:Great spot, beautiful views and pool area, helpful staff.

Review 69:The amenities in the resort were awesome.

Review 70:Location, Princeville was nice but not what I was looking for.

Review 71:Rooms were comfortable and largely spacious

Review 72:I would have cancelled our stay after the 1st night but knew it was all prepaid and non-refundable.

Review 73:nice location

Review 74:Room arrangement for family was poor. Bed arrangement was also poor.

Review 75:The location is excellent.

Review 76:Wish we could have stayed longer!

Review 77:Beautiful grounds, great room, spectacular view, friendly and helpful staff.

Review 78:Finish the restaurant. It will be so pretty!

Review 79:i didn't expect the accomodations to be a pull out bed.. This was not comfortable.

Review 80:Beautiful views. friendly staff.

Review 81:The construction and no provision made for meals etc

Review 82:The location and the staff

Review 83:They had a fire about one year ago that destroyed the restaurant, bar and other common facilities. We did not know this, and we had to fend for ourselves. Luckily we had a suite with a kitchen. Others were not so lucky. The second negative is that there are no, repeat no signs at the main highway and entrance at Princeville. The only sign is for the St. Regis. We had to ask to find it.

Review 84:The idea of the resort is great. The location, once you get there, is nearly ideal.

Review 85:no bathroom facilities near the pool, just a porta-pot, continuing construction, couldn't park near room (staff helpful in transport, but often delays)

Review 86:location is great, friendly staff, accommodated a room upgrade for us, 2 very nice pools

Review 87:Still rebuilding restaurant and bar which has been ongoing for 3 years. No shop on premises to buy neccessities

Review 88:Good staff l location wonderful pool and gardens

Review 89:Room was run down. Shower pipe was loose and rust in the bathrooms. A wood pole fell within inches of my husband. It was so heavy that it knocked over a chair.. it detached from the Ceiling..When we called the front desk they werent apologethic at all. My husband was very upset. That would have sent his to the hospital. It shows how rundown the rooms are.

Review 90:The pool and the short walk to the beach. The ocean view from our room. The friendly bellman.

Review 91:The only thing was the construction going on, but even that wasn't a huge deal. I wanted to take advantage of a gym but maybe that was under construction as well.

Review 92:I liked the friendly staff, the pool area was beautiful, the nice pineapple towel design was a nice touch, the room/bathroom was nice and clean, nice walk to beach.
