Reviews for Amara Cay Resort
Review 1:Didn't get the room I paid for. It was only partial ocean front and had no private balcony as their website claims. Frig but no microwave. Coffee but no tea. Desk but no chair. They do everything half way.
Review 2:Nice location, nice beach
Review 3:beautiful resort, clean and gorgeous rooms, lovely staff and the best food we ate in the Keys (great wine list too and the barman knows how to do cocktails)!!!!! the tempura key lime pie was to die for! we will be back!
Review 4:My wife and I loved the complimentary shuttle services offered during the evening hours. This allowed us to safely enjoy Islamorada's nightlife and save a little money by avoiding taxi fees.
Review 5:Tv did not have HD resolution and the male bartender in the evening was a bit rude.
Review 6:Entire place was great the location was perfect, clean suite and comfortable.
Review 7:We stayed here one night on the way to Key West. Had a ground floor room with a patio overlooking the ocean. Very pretty. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 8:it could have been a lot better managed. Examples: Coffeemaker impossible to figure out, and no instructions; closet door needed repair when I arrived, prices were averaged which was very misleading in terms of room rate.
Review 9:beautiful place and of course location
Review 10:The restaurant was nice, but a bit iver priced. They could have used a few more amenities like a fitness center. Overall it was a very positive experience.
Review 11:It was beautiful and very well decorated. The beds were comfy and the view was amazing.
Review 12:The staff. Mainly the daytime front desk staff. Very grouchy, we're not enjoying anything. We felt uncomfortable walking near or asking any question. I wouldn't come back because of that. The hot tub was small for the size of hotel and was not hot at all. No creamer or sugar in room for coffee. Could not adjust temp in room.
Review 13:I loved how everything was remodeled. The rooms, bar and lounge areas were magnificent.
Review 14:Price
Review 15:Very nice location, incredible lobby design, big rooms, clean and friendly staff. We spend one night but it was one of the most beautiful hotel were we stayed in Florida Keys.
Review 16:the food service was super slow, but our waitress was very friendly.
Review 17:The lobby and rooms were very nicely decorated, inviting and comfortable! The free local shuttle was super helpful to get to around.
Review 18:To have received an $18 million update, the rooms were quite sparse; to the point that there was an echo when you spoke. In-room refrigerators were not cold. No instructions for the coffee-maker. And no in-room information...about the property...the hotel....the surrounding areas. Nothing. Except for a book by Jimmy Buffet you could buy for $45. Also if you pre-pay for your vacation, they will still tack on tax to the resort fee. In our case it was only $10. But in my mind, pre-pay is just that. You should walk away not having to pay any additional monies. (barring any mini-bar items you consume).
Review 19:The location was beautiful. Staff was helpful and friendly. The new hallway carpet and paint were quite lovely.
Review 20:Definitely needs an information booklet in the room. Information that we would like to have: location of ice machine, operation of Verismo coffee maker, restaurant menu, info about fitness center (listed in the web description, but not operating, because there is no equipment), TV Chanel listing.
Review 21:Beautifully decorated, extremely clean, fantastic bathroom and very comfortable bed.
Review 22:Room cleaning was way behind, and we ended up never having the room cleaner the three nights we stayed there.
Review 23:The rooms, the location, the services available, the pool and beach area.
Review 24:Charged the credit card an extra $100 !!! Very annoying Had to call them and they said it was deposit that would be eventually refunded !!! Why ??
Review 25:Spacious room
Review 26:was expecting the grounds to be larger. pool ok. beach area quite small although plenty of sun loungers.Restaurant expensive but lots of great value restaurants nearby.
Review 27:lovely room , spacious and beautifully refurbished. great beachfront location.
Review 28:It was Beautiful!!!!! Pictures on-line don't do it justice..... Everything was just perfect. We went for our 35th wedding anniversary, and I can tell you, it was the perfect place to go...Wonderful!!!!!
Review 29:The food at the restaurant was pricey but good. Dinner options were not very intriguing in comparison to the dollar value. The last night was a little uncomfortable due to noisy neighbors. The hotel staff were very accommodating and provided us a credit. There was no gym on the facilities and one would have to drive eight miles down the road to go to one.
Review 30:The hotel ambiance and energy was absolutely amazing. The private beach and accommodations were wonderful.
Review 31:I thought the cost of eating in was expensive when there are very good places close by that were much cheaper and just as good.
Review 32:A nice clean hotel with good facilities and helpful staff.
Review 33:A few problems with Wi-Fi connection, never did connect, and I would have appreciated softer pillows, but no big deal.
Review 34:We loved Amara Cay! Spacious, immaculate, beautiful, friendly personnel. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. Thank you for a lovely stay!
Review 35:Shower doors leaked. Very poor (too dim) lighting in the bedroom and bathroom.
Review 36:Lovely conversion from the old Hampton Inn. Beautiful, simple but elegant decor. Really like the tile floor in the room; much cleaner than carpet.
Review 37:Renovated motel that now looks like a resort but still feels like a renovated motel. Rooms not ready until 4PM yet still dirty upon arrival.
Review 38:Nice ambience and quiet. Very relaxing.
Review 39:No amenities, like microwave in room no where to purchase snacks or drinks except at restaurant bar or tiki bar. A little store would have made things simpler. No laundry facilities. No entertainment around pool area.
Review 40:Very clean and everyone was very nice.
Review 41:The amenities are bad, so take your own shampoo and conditioner. The shower was clogged, but in less then 5 minutes after complaining I had someone fixing it.
Review 42:Beautiful place with an amazing energy. The staff was friendly all the time. They offer a shuffle around town, which can be really helpful. The pool area is cool and the restaurant at the pool has great service and great food. The outside part is really nice too, where you can get tan with an amazing view right at the water. Also, there is a place where you can rent kayak and paddle boards. Everything is super clean, the decoration is beautiful and the rooms have enough space.
Review 43:Upon check-in, the staff at the front desk was talking badly about other customers and were not the friendliest. This is not proper discussion or behavior for front desk customer service. Also - I had to seek clarification as my card was charged upfront when I checked in and was more than the amount I had booked for - no one had explained to me that the incidental charges would be charged upfront and removed at check-out if not needed.
Review 44:The resort was beautiful inside and outside! Very comfortable and clean.
Review 45:Front desk staff wasn't super friendly but wasn't unfriendly, just didn't give you the warm and fuzzies
Review 46:Beautiful location, view was so amazing and the food was great! Everything was wonderful. Would have been complete if there were hammocks!
Review 47:The music at the pool bar is a bit loud. The pillows in the room are not comfortable at all.
Review 48:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The property was always clean and is in a great location in Islamorada. The "beach" area was nice. The food in both restaurants is good. The amenities in the room are nice except for not having a minibar to store cold items for our child. Overall It was very kid friendly. We traveled with our 2 year old and the staff was always helpful in making us feel comfortable.
Review 49:Unit floor was dirty...shower drain not working properly. Overall it was a very pleasant stay and we would definitely stay there again. Staff was very friendly and helpful!
Review 50:amenities were nice! everything you needed was onsite.
Review 51:Pictures lead traveler to believe there is a "beach". There is sand, but not a traditional beach where you walk into the water. Slippery wooden steps down to the water is all that is offered. Also pictured were hammocks...we never saw a hammock during our stay. Music from tiki bar was very loud, and NOT beach music!
Review 52:Location was excellent! Lobby and room renovations very nice, although pool area and pool baths were not finished.
Review 53:No refrigerator or microwave in our room.
Review 54:The hotel itself was beautiful. Nicely updated. We had a room with a poolside and ocean view. It was really just so relaxing! Loved being able to rent kayaks and jet skis. Had a wonderful time.
Review 55:We had to change three rooms because something was wrong with the first two. However,Jessica was sympathetic and helped us. Didn't like the bar service.
Review 56:Administration staff and others were very nice. Hotel decor is beautiful. Parking was good.
Review 57:Terrible Sound Control between rooms and the entry doors make a loud noise every time someone enters or exits. Zero coffee service is available in the lobby. Parking availability was poor. 4 star price for a 2 star experience.
Review 58:The only thing is that there was some remodeling when we stay there , but when it is done , will be a nice place to stay !!
Review 59:Great hotel to stay clean and very friendly and good price ! Close to everything's , key largo, key west ! And I like the whole atmosphere
Review 60:The aircondition is quite loud in the room. We did not sleep so eell because of it.
Review 61:Great room on top floor! Very very very clean room and everyehere in the hotel. Very friendly staf.
Review 62:The GM went above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be. We were given a late check out, which made our last day not so rushed. One of the best long week end getaways I've ever had!
Review 63:The shower did not drain well & we were concerned it would over flow. Half the lights in the vanity mirror were out & the bathroom door did shut all the way. The sliding door to the balcony did not lock. We reported these items at check out & hopefully they will fix them.
Review 64:The location is perfect. Truly a paradise. The resort is decorated in a unique style which makes it very interesting. The gift shop was very well done & had a nice selection. The staff was very friendly.
Review 65:A problem with housekeeping (immediately rectified). No instructions on how to use the complicated television system. Restaurant and bar somewhat high priced (but the food was good).
Review 66:Newly renovated (some construction still in progress) so very modern. Very nice staff. Great location.
Review 67:Clearly a renovation of an old property. Lots of shiny new stuff, a few spots that were seriously dated (including the pool). Seems to be a work in progress.
Review 68:Great lobby, bar, and rooms. Nice little strip of beach.
Review 69:There wasn't a hammock on the beach as stated on site. The hot tub was closed.
Review 70:The staff was excellent and friendly. Loved how clean and modern the hotel was. Pool and beach was relaxing.
Review 71:Not enough longing chairs by ocean. The staff reported that they are aware and have more ordered
Review 72:The place had an upscale but comfortable feel. I really enjoyed how it was decorated.
Review 73:I thought the price of the room I stayed in was a little over priced. There was nothing special about it and the view overlooked the lower hotel roof. Room still and an oder of paint in it.
Review 74:The hotel was located in a great location. It had everything a guest might need.
Review 75:Kind of combined this answer with LIKES above. Need more beach chairs.
Review 76:Beautiful design of lobby, restaurant, bar area. Staff very accommodating. Breakfast food temp was not very hot but I'll give them a break because it's a new hotel and there is a learning curve. The room was a good size. Modern design and comfortable. Their beach area is pretty with trees for shade. Wait staff will serve you drinks and food. A bit short on number of beach chairs. They go quickly. There were plenty at the pool but I prefer the beach. Great gift shop with unique items. Great location. Convenient to Morada Bay for beautiful sunsets. Short shuttle ride provided. Enjoyed Pierres restaurant there. Great long weekend. Will be back for sure
Review 77:Nothing.
Review 78:Gorgeous renovation. Wonderful staff. Beautiful lounge area. Special. Some areas still be renovated. Once they are completed, this will be the place to stay in the Keys. Breakfast was delicious. Staff was very friendly and professional. Wonderful vacation spot.
Review 79:Some parts of hotel still under construction. Expensive. No free breakfast. View from room was rooftop.
Review 80:Newly remodeled. Modern decor. Monkey swings in lobby.
Review 81:Property being renovated. Noise of drills whilst using the swimming pool. Toilets around pool not in use. Man made beach, steps into sea. Lost electrical power in half room sockets whilst we'd been out and had an extension cable taped to the floor. Dusty room floor.
Review 82:Good pool, very good food (but expensive), free wifi, sea front access. Will be a very modern and cosmopolitan hotel once completed!
Review 83:There was nothing we didn't like :)
Review 84:From the moment we stepped into the lobby, everything at this resort was impressive! And, the renovations are not complete yet! The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay a memorable one.
Review 85:Upon arrival none of the rooms had power due to a flooded power room?Everything was still under construction.. But what I did not like themost would be that I was almost killed by the elevator doors! Aftertheelevator doors opened, me and my husband started walking into theelevator before stepping into the elevator the doors started closing! And started closing fast! The doors hit my head and arm if it wasn'tfor someone else being in the elevator and pressing the "open door"button I would have had some serious injuries! I went to the staffand explained what happened and they looked at me like I was crazy. Andthey didn't seem to want to jump on the elevator issue. My fatherbuilds and maintains elevators for a living I have been educated on thenmy whole life, this is should be a number one priority for safety andsecurity, there were children running around, would if one of them gothurt? This place should not be opened until it is completely finished.
Review 86:From what I could tell from underneath all the construction, is that theresort will be wonderful. Food was great at the restaurant, rooms weremodern and Fresh.
Review 87:we were honeymooner and we booked from booking.com and we didn't know they were having constructions so we checked out next day coz of the noises from 8:00am to 6:00 pm... but the staff was so friendly, we wrote that we were honeymooners in the comments so they made us guest of the day, they upgraded our room and they gave us a complimentary drink for two... the location is so nice, the view is beautiful, if it wasn't for the noises we would have stayed.
Review 88:The rooms were smaller than we anticipated and the Master Suite did not have a bathroom. Although we were aware that the resort was being renovated, the 8 am power tools wake up was aggravating.
Review 89:The pool was good and the water sports rental was close by. The Restaraunt was ok and the Tiki Bar on site was quaint.
Review 90:Room decor was quite jaded, curtains torn and sink in bathroom cracked. I understand hotel is being refurbished at the moment so maybe they could put items that are in a better condition into the rooms that are still being rented out. Breakfast selection very limited and coupled with paper plates &plastic cutlery made it all seem very tacky.
Review 91:View, room size, plenty of parking, helpful receptionist, nice pool
Review 92:Breakfast was pretty mediocre.
Review 93:Comfortably fit 2 adults and 3 teens. 2 full bathrooms were a nice feature. Small kitchen was really convenient. Pool and spa were really great as was the tiki bar.
Review 94:Full construction going on. After 8.30AM and all day long workers are jack hammering and banging. Serious noise, vibrations and dust, depending on room location, are intense. Breakfast is very, very, very basic and in a dark location. Staff is nice and try their best to overcome guests frustration with the situation.
Review 95:Location
Review 96:The beds are a little hard but I understand from staff that the whole place will undergo a $15 M renovation this winter so we are looking forward to staying with them again and maybe we'll have softer beds.
Review 97:The view is the best. We arrived on first day of pre-lobster season. It was fun to sit and watch the divers come in to the dock with their lobsters. Families come here to fish. There are all kinds of water sports and Sea monkeys Dive shop is right on the premises. Linda manages the 80 restaurant on premises and does a fantastic job. The sliders are terrific. The bar by the pool is the happening place to be on the weekend - Omar knows his stuff.
Review 98:They were working on the rooms from 8amto6pm everyday very loud air hammers and drilling it was horible they have changed everything I have stayed at this location for the last 15years and this was the first time I was very unhappy but it was a Hampton inn before and it had an outback steak house beside it but now the food was exspensive and jo good .we use to get eggs and sausage on our breakfast bar and now they cheap out but the price for our stay was higher the ocean was polluted and always was full of sea life behind the motel and now it is deserted and discusting
Review 99:The breakfast could have been a little more substantial but on the plus side, the coffee was great!
Review 100:We were upgraded to a ocean-front suite and and an exceptional stay even though the hotel was going through renovations. The pool side bar served great food and drinks as well. We were sorry that we had only booked 2 nights as we could have stayed several more days and enjoyed this location.
Review 101:Construction going on - so we got a wake up at 8.30 am by a sledge hammer next to hour room. After we complained at the front desk they gave us a 50$ resort credit, so we could have at least some drinks for a better sleap.
Review 102:Staff is helpful, room was large (two bedroom suite - but one room had no windows!). Pool bar is great - try the Mojito.
Review 103:Bartenders at the Tiki Bar are grumpy at best. They don't want to be there or earn a tip. 3 nights and not a single smile from a bartender. The wait staff was okay.
Review 104:Location,nice pool area, nice beach area. The hotel has potential if the management team has a vision and the staff follows through.
Review 105:We did not like that there was an extremely narrow path that was for swimming. this hotel has the concrete ledge which is ok but not enough swimming area. Also no music around pool or tiki.
Review 106:Our favorite part was the palm trees and hammocks! We also enjoyed having a restaurant on the property. We had a great time!!
Review 107:We didn't like the ocean. Water was brown with seaweed, jellyfish, & bad smell. Had to walk down steps to go in the water. The beach didn't flow into the ocean.
Review 108:We liked the large clean room. It was light & airy with ocean view even though we were on garden side. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of towels. Breakfast good. Tiki bar good foods/drinks. Loved the decor, beach, gift shop & pool. Landscaping was nice. Iguanas amazing. Resort was very nice. Will be even better when construction is done.
Review 109:Hotel was under construction, which was not disclosed at the time of our booking, and no email was sent prior to arrival. In fact, we only knew that it would be EXTREMELY disruptive when someone at the jacuzzi mentioned the construction started at 9am and went on all day. And yes, jackhammers awoke us - 9am one day, 8:30 the next...absolute racket and impossible to stay in room all day long. It was just a bad time in the renovation, but had to go back to the desk and ask why we weren't told. They did a nice thing with a $100 resort credit, but if we were there longer than two nights, it would have been utterly impossible to stay.
Review 110:Location was great. Good food. Nice size. Decent breakfast but needed more fresh fruit.
Review 111:I miss it being the Hampton Inn. It was nice to always wake up to a free hot breakfast buffet. The restaurant needs to have a higher quality of food options.
Review 112:The view of the ocean is beautiful and is convenient for a boat to pass through to the bay side. The pool is well kept and I like the addition of the massages that are offered at the pool area.
Review 113:They were undergoing renovations. Lots of noise that ended at 6pm and started at 8am. They couldn't help it.. They have job to do just wished they would have began around 10am on vacation!
Review 114:The resort was great. Lots of activities! We had a great time.
Review 115:Nothing
Review 116:The place is very clean, modern and fresh. Great value
Review 117:the weather...haha
Review 118:our view
Review 119:Location, Amenities, Comfort, Staff & Mangement, were second to none. Looking forward to going back for more!
Review 120:Beautifully designed hotel!
Review 121:A bit south in Islamorada if u plan on seeing other places of interest further north
Review 122:Great facility and great staff
Review 123:no more kitchenette rooms
Review 124:great job on the remodel, lobby looks fantastic.
Review 125:overpriced pool bar, housekeeping.
Review 126:very beautiful place, spacious rooms, nice and clean pool area etc.
Review 127:Very nice place to be, small but fantastic.
Review 128:Fantastic restaurant. Friendly service.
Review 129:Rooms amazing and Oltrmare Resturant amazing. Must try the grilled octopus.
Review 130:No towels at the pool.
Review 131:Beautiful location and rooms. We really enjoyed our stay!
Review 132:Parking was a challenge at times.
Review 133:Loved the design of the room. View from balcony was very nice. Patio doors were very sound proof.
Review 134:Enjoyed our stay very much , will definitely be back .
Review 135:Perfect premises and staff, not to mention the superior Italian cuisine.
