Reviews for De Zeekoe Guest Farm

Review 1:I dislike sachets of shampoo etc. Breakfast was ok. Dinner was mediocre. The latest you could eat was 7.30 with nothing to do after dinner. Not the hotel's fault but crying children, day and night, were an irritant.

Review 2:John, a trainee waiter, couldn't do enough for you. The fire in the garden in the evening was lovely.

Review 3:restaurant and wine list a bit expensive for what you get, also one may have expected a bath in a 'Luxury room' - so read the room discriptions

Review 4:Very clean and friendly staff

Review 5:All had a esoteric, spiritual touch, every morning a verse of the bible is not for everybody, it was no familiar and personal atmosphere like on other farms, they tried it, but it was too studied

Review 6:I liked the landscape and the surrounding

Review 7:When greeted we were rushed around to grab a drink and sit down to learn about all the things to do. our host disappeared again ... It wasn't relaxing and confusing. Unfortunately the refrigirator in the room was very loud.

Review 8:Nice view into the wide country side, nice backyard with pool and well taken care of. Big room (river view) with a big bed. We had dinner and breakfast there and both were very good.

Review 9:The meerkat tour is fabulous - fun and informative. We stayed in one of the remote cabins, which was very large and comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was quite good, breakfasts also. We took the scenic drive from Cape Town (not the N2) which took 6 hours and was beautiful.

Review 10:Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing stay at the Zeekoe: overpriced rooms, as they need maintenance. Quality of the restaurant is poor and very overpriced as well.

Review 11:Location near the Route 62 is great.

Review 12:The hotel was nice and clean. The lady at the front desk mentioned they are remodeling so I imagine the facilities will be even nicer in the future. They unexpectedly did turn-down service the first night of our stay for our honeymoon. Great stay, thank you!

Review 13:Beautiful room with a very nice bath room (bath tub) and a veranda. Great restaurant, very nice and helpful staff! The walk around the lake is fantastic (weaver birds!!!).

Review 14:Dirty curtains in the kitchen, glasses in the cupboard with lipstick marks and juice stains. 4 Lights did not work. In the cupboard I could only find 4 plates, but 9 side plates, but again only 3 glasses!? And please fix the hole in the wall.

Review 15:Beautiful view from the decks.

Review 16:would love to see proper wicker furniture on the deck overlooking the dam

Review 17:i chose the cabins at the dam which reminded me of a treehousea and found all the luxury of a guesthouse,

Review 18:The food wasn't particularly good. The walking map wasn't updated which affected my walk in the heat!!!

Review 19:The location, fantastic view. Also great to lounge in the garden by the pool. Very comfortable sunbed

Review 20:I thought that the outside bar should have crisps and peanuts for sale ! Perhaps more variety to the dinner menue but not serious.

Review 21:Loved the Out Of Africa atmosphere! Loved the beautiful gardens, bedouin type gazebos with loungers on which to relax and read a book, open plan dining room with wonderful view of the mountains, fabulous breakfast with ostrich egg scrambled eggs and most of all the excellent staff.

Review 22:did not have great experience's with meat dishes in the evening meals.

Review 23:rooms and breakfast where very good, presentation of breakfast was excellent. clean with lots of space,

Review 24:Not sure what the rooms were like. We chose a log cabin. The location by the dam was glorious but the cabins are very basic and the main bedroom was only big enough to accommodate the double bed.

Review 25:Lovely communal areas - quite upmarket for the location. Attentive staff and good food. And of course the meerkat safari was amazing.

Review 26:It might be a bit on the pricey side. Also it might not be the best choice for people with allergies as there is a hayfarm next door. (But it's a guest FARM, what did you expect ;))

Review 27:The staff was very friendly, they helped us any way they could. They were very accomodating for the special requests I had for a marriage proposal. The rooms (we had the honeymoon suite) were huge and very luxurious. The view was absolutely amazing. Breakfast was also very good. Thanks Adri and the team for making our stay there very special.

Review 28:That I didn't find this place earlier and stay longer !

Review 29:This place was fantastic. Great value for money. Beautiful and huge bedroom. Friendly staff with late checkin/manned reception. Amazing quiet location. Great restaurant on site.

Review 30:Room was lacking in somewhere to put suitcase or shelves. The food choices were limited(we stayed 2 nights, the second night was a buffet meal recycling previous night's choices). Not much to do in Oudtshoorn on a Sunday apart from the paid attractions.

Review 31:Nice setting, spacious room, comfortable bed. Helpful staff, but some a little under-trained.

Review 32:Only issue we experienced was a very uncomfortable, hard bed that we slept in. My boyfriend is still suffering from the hard bed 2 days after our stay, and I had a very sore shoulder the next morning. Other then that, the experience of nature and the log cabins was amazing.

Review 33:We loved our one day and night stay in the self catering cabin. We took a boat out onto the lake and had a refreshing swim from the heat. Quite and beautiful scenery a must for anymore wanting to enjoy bird watching or get away from the busy city lifestyle.

Review 34:The room level, for me it seemed a 5 star hotel, a big bath, excellent beds and a fireplace also... The restaurant is very good. Staff people gives you a lot of information. And the Meerkats tour, highly reccomended.

Review 35:A bit more facilities for children

Review 36:Breakfast was lovely!

Review 37:Friendly Staff nice cottage

Review 38:Breakfast was excellent. Nice to be on working farm. Loved Meercat tour.

Review 39:Restaurant menu and list of wines overpriced

Review 40:Very stylish

Review 41:Stayed at cabins and they were gorgeous!

Review 42:Good place to rest after a long stressful trip

Review 43:The cabins at the lake are lovely!

Review 44:none

Review 45:Good place to stay when you go on the early morning Meerkat trip.

Review 46:Great facilities and very attentive staff. The meerkat visit was very good indeed.

Review 47:Nil

Review 48:Breakfast and restaurant excellent- lovely surroundings

Review 49:The room, the food, the location

Review 50:luxury room had nothing special, too expensive for what web got, too poor wifi

Review 51:Location, close to merkaat experience meeting point

Review 52:Nothing!

Review 53:Everything!!

Review 54:None

Review 56:Inadequate heating in rooms.

Review 57:So peaceful........

Review 58:Beautiful cabin & friendly helpful staff

Review 59:Friendly, helpful staff, great breakfast and dinner

Review 60:Nothing

Review 61:Everything

Review 62:The Meerkat experience

Review 63:Nothing really

Review 64:Comfortable bed and excellent linen

Review 65:Meercat trip

Review 66:Nothing was too much trouble, the staff were love, y, so was the room and the food.

Review 67:Well everything about the place is great

Review 68:everything!!!! Staff, accommodation, food, surroundings

Review 69:it was great nice people great view

Review 70:The dawm Meerkat encounter. Good value for money. Good breakfast Clean and comfortable

Review 71:The beautiful cottages that were creatively decorated...the lovely view overlooking the lake....the delicious dinner and breakfast delivered to the cottage...and the wonderful opportunity to see the meerkats...a memorable experience

Review 72:Main bedroom in log cabin too small - no space around bed. No cupboards in bedrooms. Lots of cobwebs in cabin.

Review 73:Friendliness of the staff. Breakfast were very good. Loved the big fire place in the cabin.

Review 74:Although the room was well equipped, there is one exeption: A TV should have more than 3 channels to watch!

Review 75:Well equipped rooms Complimentary Sherry in the room

Review 76:All rules and regulations. Signs everywhere telling "Please do not do this". "Please do not do that". Quite poor dinner served as a barbeque with buffé vegetables. OK meat but dry and boring buffé. Did not like the lady who was waiting us either. She was babbling constantly with nothing to say really... :-(

Review 77:Not to much.... Unfortunately... Maybe had to high expectations.

Review 78:No real complaints. Could perhaps improve lighting between rooms and parking- we had to use a torch to find our way. The kettle plug could be better placed.

Review 79:Very friendly reception staff, who kindly supplied a packed breakfast for our early start next morning. We wished we had arranged more time, to enjoy the visit and the meerkats. The sherry was a nice touch.

Review 80:The room we were allocated which was a luxury room (so they said) did not agree with the description on our booking form which said it had a view of the pool and other differences. I did check with reception but she insisted it was the right one and we were only there for 2 nights so I did not persue the matter.

Review 81:Very relaxing place. Great pool - one we could actually swim in.

Review 82:Apply plenty of bug spray before going out as you will get bitten without it. Swimming pool was in need of a good clean!

Review 83:A relaxed welcoming atmosphere on arrival. The staff really look after you and the accommodation is a best described as rustic boudoir.

Review 84:Everything was just perfect.

Review 85:Wonderful !!!!!!!! Exceptional. Take one of the bungalow one mile outside the hotel, and enjoy the nature and the authenticity. Our host was helpful, friendly, perfect. We will be back.

Review 86:We had a small problem with ants and various other insects but this was fine, we understand we were in the wild countryside of South Africa.

Review 87:Good location just off R62 on our drive from Franschoek through to the Garden Route. We stayed in a great little wooden lodge located on the banks of the large lake full of bird life. Great swimming pool and garden overlooking the open countryside to relax in.

Review 88:The staff were very helpful and served us a great lunch even though we arrived well after lunchtime. Our room was very attractive and provided all we needed. The food was excellent and not overpriced.

Review 89:Lots of pushing on religion which we didn't like eg proverbs on the blackboard -not to everyone's taste

Review 90:Great room with fab bath Balcony over the ground good Excellent restaurant and after we asked they lit the fire pit in the evening which was great! Meerkat trip was fabulous

Review 91:No dislikes.

Review 92:As on previous visits, the room was of very high standard and all staff were very attentive, and very well trained. The food and the ambience of the restaurant were exceptional.

Review 93:No pressure for hot water on shower so only cold showers in our room. Apparently several rooms with same problem. Maybe should have been warned.

Review 94:friendly staff, nice room, Meerkat dawn walk is a must.

Review 95:Not being checked into the room we actually booked for 5 hours and thenoffered no apology or assistance to move rooms in the dark (we even hadprinted confirmation of our booking to hand.)Placed with the tour guidesat the back with no view or safe and lots of people walking past ourdoor.Breakfast took one hour and we had to collect cups knives andbutter from other tables that had finished in order to eat.Ignored bybreakfast staff and management

Review 96:The location

Review 97:The shower has low pressure owing to the fact they use the farms own spring water ,but there is a bath so don't let it put you off

Review 98:We stayed at the farm because of the Meerkat tour. It was a 5:45 meet at the top of the road , we then followed Devey to a gated piece of land a 5 minuet drive away. After a few minuets the first Meerket appeared, others soon followed. It was well worth the early start. The accommodation is in beautiful grounds. The food is very good too.I would recommend this experience to anyone thinking of visiting the area.

Review 99:The views were beautiful from our room and the verandah/restaurant and gave us a lovely feeling of absolute peace and serenity. The staff were wonderful and couldn't have been more helpful. This booking was made for us from our friend in Knysna and I must say he chose a lovely place for my husband and I to stay at. E McInnes, Holland Pk, Australia

Review 100:Breakfast was a bit disappointing and didn't really match the rest of the trip

Review 101:We had great rooms in a scenic and peaceful location for a one night stay

Review 102:Would like the staff to introduce themselves. Also, they were veryconfusing with regards to the breakfasts. Not specific and we keptordering incorrectly, thinking we had been given our choices - only tobe offered the full breakfast later. Eg: we were offered an omeletteand accepted... Then 10 minutes later we were offered sausage, baconand eggs!! We would have preferred the latter, but had alreadyordered!! No menus!!!

Review 103:Enjoyed the attention to detail. Decor and comfort very high on theguest farms priorities.

Review 104:It was in a rural location with a range of activities nearby. Veryhelpful anf friendly staff and comfortable accommodation. Relaxingatmosphere

Review 105:The wonderful place, the people working there and being very helpful (wifi, computer..), the delicious meals - and most of all the unforgettable meerkat-tour, one of the highlights of our trip!!

Review 106:The only minus is the swimming pool, which would profit from an update.

Review 107:This guest house is a find, very professional and friendly staff. We would certainly recommend it and we enjoyed an excellent ostrich meal in the evening.

Review 108:Room decor Large bath Views Ambience Breakfast

Review 109:No fire making facilities in cabin, distance to cabin

Review 110:Good breakfast, view & cabin

Review 111:Lovely atmosphere

Review 112:Everything, wished we had stayed longer, but travel plans prohibited a longer stay

Review 113:The Meerkats

Review 114:food was expensive and not good no heaters in the rooms, it was cold

Review 115:rooms facilities lovely grounds

Review 116:The rooms are exceptional in a really relaxing environment

Review 117:Thin walls
