Reviews for Hotel Laguna

Review 1:When I mentioned the guests in the next room were very loud all night (and the hotel makes you sign an acknowledgment of "quite hours" when you check-in) the front desk clerk didn't apologize at all and just asked me if I had reported it during the night. He did not seem to care that we were disturbed and awake for hours due to the noisy neighbors.

Review 2:Ocean view and central location.

Review 3:I booked the corner ocean King and called to find out that room wasn't even available. So I was bumped to the bridal suite. Walls are paper thin, I was brushing my teeth in my bathroom and heard EVERYTHING the man next door was doing in his bathroom. I had a suite and there was nothing suite like about it. I asked reception what the difference between a regular room and this supposed suite was and all she could answer was "an extra 2 square ft" WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!

Review 4:The beach access was nice.

Review 5:Everything else. Dirty old rundown creepy smelly - scalding hot shower one minute followed by cold water the next minute without changing a thing. Definite hazard

Review 6:Location -- ocean view - center of town

Review 7:Hotel needs a little love, especially the windows in the room. Super poor water pressure to take a shower, took twice as long to rinse.

Review 8:The front desk, her name is Nicole. Fantastic service from her. What an awesome employee. Thank you for all your help. You are 5 stars all the way.

Review 9:Only thing negative I could say is the bathroom mirror is rather high for someone my height (5'3") and there is no other mirror in the room, so if you are getting dressed to go out, you can't really check yourself out. There was a full-length mirror in the hallway, though.

Review 10:The location was excellent, right in the heart of shops, restaurants, and the beach! The old iconic hotel is charming - loved our cozy room. It's small, and the bathroom was dated, but was very workable, and the best thing, it was spotlessly clean. I've been in new hotel rooms with bathrooms not nearly this clean. Also, because the hotel accepts pets, I was concerned it might smell ..... not at all. Loved the crank-out windows! And the small room heater gave off quiet, cozy heat.

Review 11:Needs complete overhall / windows did not work / terrible room and bathroom / nothing has been done in 75 years / very poor experience

Review 12:Location

Review 13:Very out dated hotel. Needs investment. Scary elevator. Shower had cold water.

Review 14:Great location. Great views of the restaurant. Great views of the rooms. Cool atmosphere.

Review 15:Room was very small and so was the bathroom. Not enough space in the bathroom to spread out my toiletries. Could be updated for more countertop space and toilet was from the 50's.

Review 16:Loved the location!! Right in the beach, how much more could you ask for!! Private beach at that!!

Review 17:Hotel advertises "breakfast voucher" .. this is only a 25% coupon off at their restaurant. While you might expect the hotel to be dated, dirty we did not .. body fluids on bed skirt, spilled and stains on carpets, bed sunken in the middle. The slider windows are missing the insulating strips so there was a 1" gap of air around one large window ... might be ok in the summer but that, coupled with our broken insuite heater, we froze under the thin blanket. We asked about the broken heater and were given a floor space heater that hummed off and on all night.

Review 18:The location was great

Review 19:There is no air conditioning and the fan made a clicking noise that was hard to ignore. The room seemed clean but had drab brown colors and was extremely small. I love quaint, but this room just seemed old rather than quaint. The hotel service was gracious about me not having hot water for a morning shower and adjusted the cost of the room, but I was disappointed in the room overall. The view of the sea and hearing the waves was at least the room redemption factor! The location of this hotel is fantastic but the rooms need a big make over! The lobby and other areas were fine.

Review 20:The private beach is stellar and the service from the staff is gracious and excellent. Being located right in the middle of town makes everything convenient.

Review 21:The man at check in was surly at best. I forgot my toothbrush and was directed to a gas station down the street at 7 a.m. The entire hotel is in need of a serious cleaning and upgrading! I understand the charm but it is lost in the grubbiness and lack of working parts!

Review 22:I stayed here because of the location and the restaurant.

Review 23:The hotel is run-down. Simple fixing up would do wonders to make this hotel first-rate. That said, we had a room one room in from the corner, and it was beautiful. The place is clean - it is also tired and in real need of an upgrade.

Review 24:This hotel is a piece of Laguna history. It is situated right on the beach, near the most popular and congested beach activity. If you want seclusion, this hotel won't do it.

Review 25:This hotel needs to upgrade bathrooms and fixtures. The sink was cracked and the toilet was badly stained. Tile in and around the shower was cracked or missing! No AC in room!

Review 26:Location on the beach and right downtown. The food and the ocean view at the restaurant were great! Beautiful lobby area.

Review 27:when my friends went down to the beach in the am monday there was a lady bum taking her morning BM right next to the stairs (there was a public bathroom available only 100 yrds away) when they told someone nothing was done and nobody cleaned the area.it grossed them out. the lady did leave eventually on her own.

Review 28:old style hotel was cool. the bar was great the front desk people were cooperative and your housekeeping/bell/valet guys were right on! We will stay again for sure!!! there are spirits there too...

Review 29:No refrigerator in the room and the ice machine only one in the building .

Review 30:We stay only one they, but we enjoy very much. We like the service in the beach and later in the restaurant, good food and service.

Review 31:Feels neglected in many areas in terms of cleanliness, decor and use of space. I appreciate the fact that it is listed as an historic building however, the lack of upgrades such as AC, etc. common in other hotels hurt the overall score.

Review 32:Location is great however, it can be a little loud during peak summer. Use of the private beach club is great and a must if you don't want the panhandlers and homeless bothering you from the Main Beach located immediately to the right.

Review 33:When I checked into the hotel, I asked for a room facing the ocean, and they were able to accommodate me. If I had been on the street side, the room would have been very noisy. Also, the private beach area was great.

Review 34:Elevator was old and musty. The hotel is not new at all, but was great for a few days on the beach

Review 35:Opening my windows and hearing the waves all night! Location is excellent, restaurant staff wonderful (free coffee in bar area!)

Review 36:Extremely poor condition of room - cracked tiles in bathroom - rust on pipes - water pressure awful and goes from hot to cold while showering NO AIR CONDITIONING

Review 37:Only location

Review 38:Like most beach properties, there is no a/c, so it's tough to sleep comfortably.

Review 39:The private beach access and food and beverage service on the beach is very convenient, especially when you have young children. The food was excellent. And it's located next to a playground and a short walk to the tide pools!

Review 40:Our breakfast was very poor. My toast was dry and hard, coffee was weak, potatoes and bacon seemed like they had been sitting for a while.

Review 41:Besides breakfast, we love staying at Hotel Laguna. We've been before and will be back. The location is ideal and we like the ambience of the smaller, historic hotel. Staff is very pleasant.

Review 42:Our room was tiny. There was no air conditioning so the window had tostay open with tons of noise. We had a alley outside with a dumpster andnoise all night from street sweepers, banging bottles of recyclingworkers, kids screaming, and more. We were charged $45 for parking fortwo days. I didn't see the no air and parking fees listed anywhere. They also didn't allow coolers in the rooms or have a mini fridge. Iguess they wanted us to only buy their $13 cocktails.

Review 43:The rooms were fairly clean with decent linens. The location wasbeautiful and convenient to everything.

Review 44:I know this was described as a historic site, but once i ascended past the lobby-which looked great-it smelled like a senior citizens' retirement home and the rooms were dank and way too outdated to look remotely hospitable. I didn't even dare step into the shower for a bath (maybe, if I had had a flashlight!) The furnishing (circa 1984) was beat up and haggard looking; I kept all my belongings packed in my bags the whole trip!

Review 45:the location was the best part. very convenient to all shops and restaurants.

Review 46:The only issue I can think of is the small bathrooms. I know there's nothing that can be done about that. This is a common aspect of an older hotel.

Review 47:The experience as a whole was wonderful. I loved the history and vintage feel of the hotel. It was like stepping back in time a bit. Facilities were well maintained so it did not feel old. It was also in the heart of Laguna. We walked everywhere we went - did not have to drive at all.

Review 48:There was no AC in the room so it was hot and muggy all night. The windows opened but there were no screens. One window had broken glass. The hotel itself is very nice but the rooms definitely need to be updated. The beds are not comfortable and the sheets were not the quality i'd expect in a hotel

Review 49:The hotel is located right on the beach and in walking distance of restaraunts

Review 50:There are no ramps!!!!! Anywhere!! I had to carry my one year old son inhis stroller down large flight of narrow stairs to beach and then backup it. One time out of 6 a waiter was nice enough to do it for me. Andthere is no air conditioning. My son woke up dripping sweat in themiddle of the night. And we had fan on and windows open. Also windowshave no screens. I realize this is a very old hotel but some thingsshould be upgraded to accommodate families, wheelchairs, etc.

Review 51:Location is fantastic. Beach service wonderful. Food is fabulous atocean view restaurant. View is great.

Review 52:ROOMS ARE TERRIBLY OLD, EVERYTHING FROM FURNITURE, CARPET, BATHROOM, NO AIR-CONDITIONING,HEATING SYSTEM THAT WAS COMPLETELY RUSTY, OVERALL A TERRIBLE OLD AND DIRTY FEELING

Review 53:LOCATION IS FANTASTIC

Review 54:The windows offer no sound proofing from the busy road outside. Also the hotel was doing repairs outside my bedroom door too. Luckily I Wad there only 1 night otherwise it would have driven me mad.

Review 55:Staff was not friendly at all. Some of them were in fact really rude when asked for help. We will not come back here and we will definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

Review 56:Great location. Walking distance to bars and restaurants. Nice ocean view.

Review 57:The beach was nice and having drinks was even better. But it was expensive. So was parking. You should not have to pay that much to park there, especially when you have already paid for your room!

Review 58:Friendly staff. Willing to help at all times

Review 59:Noise of "mountain view" rooms. Some double glass wouldn't go astray - cars, trucks and idiots hoon past all day and all night long.

Review 60:Restaurant and vibe and location were great.

Review 61:Staff did not make any effort to go out of their way for anything but the basics. I requested early check-in or late check-out and never received a reply. When we arrived at the hotel early, we were told a room was not available until 3 and that we would be notified. We were never notified and had to go back and check. Ultimately, we were not able to check in until close to 3:30

Review 62:Location-oceanside

Review 63:NO TOOTHBRUSH ETC. NO WARDROBE TO HANG CLOTHES. Soup and shampoo provided though. Old facilities. No kettle. No tea/coffee in the rooms (but FREE coffee and organic tea varieties at the bar down stairs), no minibar. No power plug next to bed or table.

Review 64:If you like sound of the ocean, it is good, but if you dont, windows are NOT sound proof, you can't escape. I believe you might have problem if your room facing the street. Historical building, GREAT LOCATION. But ROOMS ARE POOR.

Review 65:Little noisy on the street side but I cannot fault the hotel for that!

Review 66:Staff were polite. Parking was inexpensive. Lobby hallways and room were clean clean clean. Though breakfast was not included we were given a 25% discount and it was the best breakfast we'd had on our entire trip. Thank you!!!! I will most certainly suggest and return to this hotel.

Review 67:I felt like I was in a movie. An old place full of charm and history. The architecture is amazing. I loved the windows in the room. I loved being on the beach. Valet the night we checked in was so helpful too.

Review 68:The elevator was to slow and was not working one day.

Review 69:I loved the ocean view in our room and location .Great food @the restaurant. This made our stay awesome. And we would like to return and stay at your hotel again. Thanks

Review 70:We were only allowed 2 lounge chairs while laying out on the beach. My husband had to lay on the sand while an entire row of empty chairs were to the side of us. It was extremely disappointing.

Review 71:the room had a duct from the laundry room (we calculated) and had a lovely smell of soap but we left with bad coughs we thought due to fibres in the outlet. The bathroom was small and inadequate and not too clean.

Review 72:the view was amazing, food great.

Review 73:Slow WiFi. The shower (hot water connection) was horrible. The water would keep flipping between luke warm and scalding hot without my touching the water knob. It was annoying and painful (both literally and figuratively).

Review 74:The location is perfect. The room is cozy, and the bed comfortable

Review 75:Our room did not have a working fan, nor air. The toilets were old and hard to flush. The windows are vintage.

Review 76:Hotel was nice (vintage) private beach was a plus, and food at the Oceanview was delicious!

Review 77:The room, the cleanliness, no AC,. You truly want to leave the room as quickly as possible to get out into the beach town of Laguna. There is nothing enjoyable about the rooms...

Review 78:The location was the only pleasant part of the stay.

Review 79:'Coastal view' room was a window that opened to street and main beach park. Noise from street traffic at night and trash truck in morning made for no sleep. And I'm a sound sleeper. Hotel had old charm but room was not worth price. I have no problem paying top dollar for ocean front room. I will not stay here again. Phone didn't work. Window broken.

Review 80:Restaurant was excellent. Staff was nice. Location is good.

Review 81:Old hotel. .. very basic rooms. .. you would pay $50 any where else. They nickel and dime you to death. .. pay for parking no free breakfast. Stay at the holiday Inn. ..

Review 82:Great location

Review 83:No iron in room, no outlets in room.. Had to hunt for a power strip behind the tv stand... Shower head was at my chest level.

Review 84:Charming hotel close to ocean... Lots of personality

Review 85:street noise could be reduced with better casements and double panes. i don't remember any notification of a $20/day fee for parking, so it seemed like a hidden cost

Review 86:location.

Review 87:unforetunately,pleasant attitudes and a smile don't seem to be much on the agenda these days

Review 88:i have been going to this hotel for 30 years,I love the charm and the ambiance, the staff is obviously never the same so I'm not afforded any, nice to see you agains, but that's just nostalgia on my part

Review 89:Close to main beach, vball courts, Downtown and great shops/restaurants! On-site outdoor restaurant is right on the beach with great food and attentive staff! Only stayed one night, but will def be back!! Loved the historic aspect of this hotel! Old photos hanging in halls and still lots of history left in the hotel. Very basic room, but comfortable and clean!

Review 90:the bedrooms were very dated and some updated needed especially with the windows as it was very noisy with a room on the village side.

Review 91:Ideal location on the beach easy access for restaurants and shops parking facilities helpful staff

Review 92:There is no nice lobby where you can sit for a while

Review 93:excellent hotel, which kept its historical and personal ambiance but is clean and very comfortable. great staff. Views are fantastic, very pleasant terrace directly at the beach. For hotel guests beach chairs and towels are free to use

Review 94:Surprised that the only thing that has been updated in the room was the tv. Walls thin, lots of noise. Worker started scraping paint off the wall in the room next door at 8:00 AM. Sounded like he was in our room. Fortunately stopped on request, but started again at 9:00 AM. If you want to go back in time.....say 50 years....you'll feel at home.

Review 95:Great location to restaurants, main beach, and shops.

Review 96:I don't like the fact they charged for an early check in, they no longer allow coolers in the rooms and they are now charging $20 a night for parking.

Review 97:Great Location and clean rooms, even though they could use some updating.

Review 98:The shower heads are too low, and the noise from the street was a bit loud. The rooms are large enough for a sofa or loveseats, but there was only 1 small chair.

Review 99:The breakfast on the deck was fantastic. The proximity to great restaurants is excellent. The room was large.

Review 100:This is a quaint old hotel. The rooms were good, the bed was great. There was no A/C but we had a ceiling fan that was more than adequate to keep us comfortable. Yes, it was old but not run down. The reason you want to stay here is the location! The hotel is right on the beach. They have lounges and umbrellas for guests and will bring you lunch and cocktails from the hotel bar. All in all my husband and I had a great time at Hotel Laguna. We will stay there again.

Review 101:No deadbolt!

Review 102:Location, location, location.... may be my favorite OC hotel for the downtown spot and price. While the "park view room" meant the parking lot, it did have a water view and best of all was close enough to the beach to hear the waves crash all night. While the building and amenities are dated, we enjoyed the historical and vintage aspect of our stay.

Review 103:overall, facility is a little tired... room could use a ceiling fan..

Review 104:location, location, location... breakfast overlooking Pacific... take a walk thru Heisler Park (up & down to beaches)... fun but expensive shopping/restaurant district surrounds hotel...

Review 105:Personal at the counter had problems with our reservation. Rooms to the front extremly loud. Dirty, inside th elevator it smelled horrible. It is not the price worth!

Review 106:Tiny bathroom.(but this is an old historic hotel so it's to be expected). Wall in room could use some decorations(one wall was completely bare of anything)

Review 107:Great location. Park that car and leave it for your whole stay. Plenty of food and entertainment right out your front door. Bed was comfy. Ocean view. Having breakfast right on the beach was awesome and their prices were great.

Review 108:cockroaches in bathroom loud neighbors structure/building needs updating within confines of maintaining historical context/look and feel

Review 109:location view from restaurant/patio staff

Review 110:No air conditioning in the room and upon our arrival it was HOT! There was not even a ceiling fan or any fan for that matter. We arrived about an hour prior to check in and we were charged for early parking. Having to pay a separate charge for parking as a guest is beyond me. For the price of these rooms, parking should be included. I was surprised to see that there was no iron in the room, there was a blow dryer though. The bathroom was so sub standard you get better at Motel 6. I get the nostalgia and all of the Hotel which I can appreciate, but a few updates are certainly needed.

Review 111:Location Location Location!!! The views The bed was comfortable. There was a safe in the room.

Review 112:The rooms need updating. The bathrooms are very marginal. The staff need to do a MUCH better job cleaning the Guest rooms and bathrooms. The public areas of the hotel seemed much cleaner than the guest rooms.

Review 113:Great service by every staff member we encountered. Fantastic location to dining, shops and entertainment. The oceanfront location is a real plus! The restaurant has very good food.

Review 114:The room was tiny and in need of a bathroom over hall. It was impossible to get ready in the bathroom or anywhere else for that matter. The mirror was so high I could see only my eyes. 5'2 and eyes of blue.

Review 115:It's right on the beach with lounge chairs and umbrellas only for guests.

Review 116:Unfortunately noisy in a.m. we spent 250. a night to wake up to dumpster trucks at 7 am sharp every morning. Smoking area for employees goes right into open windows as there is no air.valley just left us hanging when pulled in.Didn't give any direction or help as to how to check in.just took keys and had to pry out info where and how to check in or get cart.He didn't greet us.poor first impression.Needs retraining if employee of hotel.

Review 117:Extremely pet friendly..The attendant at beach, Zac was off the charts with with personal care for each guest. He made our visit feel like we were the only guest in the world. Awesome young man. The views and location make up for lack of air-conditioning and street noise while in room.

Review 118:Elevator kept going out and had to climb two flights of stairs. Bathrooms really old and not user friendly.

Review 119:Location, location, location! Staff is great.

Review 120:Bathrooms require upgrading. Needs airconditioning in rooms.

Review 121:Great location, accessibility to beach & shops, cafès, etc Staff very accommodating.

Review 122:Very noisy as windows had to be open for circulation, no AC. Very low water pressure for showering. Hotel itself could use a little updating.

Review 123:Location was convenient. Came into town to see family and friends. Came to see a friend who works at 370 Common so the hotel was located two blocks away.

Review 124:Service in the restaurant was slow, especially at breakfast. Wasn’t that crowded. Waiter even mentioned it wasn’t that busy. Ordered pancakes and had to wait while they milked the cow for the milk to make the butter. Also syrup seemed to be something not associated with pancakes.

Review 125:Location was incredible. If you are going for the Festival as we were it is an amazing and convenient location. You can park and take the trolley anywhere. Also next to a lovely park.

Review 126:My room was very noisy. I could here traffic and people at the bar across the street until 2 in the morning. Definitely not relaxing. Rooms have no air conditioning. I tried opening my window but the noise was very loud couldn't even hear the tv. Would not stay again.

Review 127:The location was nice. Hotel is on the beach

Review 128:The room was small and cramped and over-looked the street which was noisy until late at night. Although the room was clean, it could use some updating and maintenance.

Review 129:The location is walking distance to restaurants, shops, galleries and festivals. There is a kind of nostalgic charm to the hotel.

Review 130:The guy in the parking facility was especially annoying and hard to understand. Parts of the hotel are pretty run down, but they appear to be doing a lot of refurbishing

Review 131:The location was perfect for us. Walking distance to the Art Festival. Being near the beach.

Review 132:Room, bathroom very small. Noise insulation is poor. Restaurant food is only fair and service is slow. No air conditioning in 88 deg weather, but does have nice ceiling fan. We left one day early.

Review 133:Location. Hotel restaurant is close to ocean and can hear surf in bedroom.

Review 134:room was somewhat hot, no ventilation, lacked any A/C, bathroom small and room facing street was noisy at night

Review 135:location on beach and center town was great, quaint boutique hotel, good value for money for laguna beach

Review 136:The bathrooms in the rooms are pathetic...tile may be so old it is not possible to get clean but it is very unappealing as are the toilets and sinks.

Review 137:Location is fabulous. The restaurant is also excellent. The front desk people were extremely nice. Was upgraded without asking.

Review 138:A lot of unexpected charges, which are not told until you get the bill; such as: 20 dollars per day to park the car; adicional beach service fee, etc

Review 139:The location is great!! Very close to good restaurants, near the main beach, and of course the beach service.

Review 140:Would have liked a cooling system or fan, a bit stuffy. Once the windows were open and the ocean air came in, it was fine.

Review 141:Right in the heart of everything! We were in town for Pagent of the Masters and it was perfect. Walking distance to just about everything. Great views, beautiful. Will stay again!

Review 142:The bathrooms needed updating and the furniture in the rooms needed updating and the furniture could have been arranged in a more comfortable manner.

Review 143:The location near the center of town was great.
