Reviews for Sonesta Resort - Hilton Head Island

Review 1:The housekeeping staff complained about their work load, room cleanliness had room for improvement, and food/bar service was very slow. Some employees were visibly unhappy. However, I believe all of the above was due to understaffing, perhaps due to holidays.

Review 2:The location from the beach, the heated pool, bike rentals and ocean view. Food was good. Many of the staff were very pleasant!

Review 3:Carts are not available unless vallet parks your vehicle and bring luggage up. They hide the carts when vallet is closed. We had the room furthest away from anything with a toddler. We had a late checkout and housekeeping staff knocked on our door 4 times before normal checkout to see if we were gone.

Review 4:Great facility. Staff was very nice. Property was amazing.

Review 5:Bathroom was too small. No amenities in bathroom. Not enough restaurants open. Could not get a Frozen drink after 6 pm. No staff walking around for meal or drink order. No chairs for the beach. Room faced the front court yard giving you a view of a dirty overhang

Review 6:Location. Floor lighting for the evening.

Review 7:I felt the buildings visuals were lacking and that paying $210 ($180 + $30taxes) a night in October was WAY over priced. Specifically the front exterior facade looked worn and public interior spaces lacked character. I was expecting a "cooler" hotel. Some staff were very nice but overall they preferred not to be bothered. The level of service and amenities is closer to a $130 value in Oct.

Review 8:The best part is the pool area. Clearly this is where money has been spent. My room was enjoyable, I just wish the common spaces had more character.

Review 9:Hotdog lunch poolside was not hot. Noise permeated room from next room through a connecting door. They should soundproof the doors. Wifi was really tricky.

Review 10:Cleaning staff did a great job. Pretty place. Lovely beach. Good breakfast

Review 11:The motion light under the night stand turned on and off constantly. The early morning knocks by housekeeping wanting to clean the room. The walls were too thin, we could hear conversation in the adjourned rooms

Review 12:THE DECOR was beautiful The atmosphere was tranquil

Review 13:The hotel promises people an ocean view but the way the hotel is laid out, there are NO rooms with an ocean view. They lied too us about this when we looked out over the pool saying "This is an ocean view room". Granted, one could see the ocean off in the distance. When we were leaving, no one came up to help us with our luggage after we had requested assistance. We did fine on our own. My wife was upset about it though.

Review 14:The pool and grounds were well taken care of and clean. The bicycles were great but can be obtained from any hotel. The rooms are larger than what one can get at other hotels. For the most part, the staff did a good job and were friendly.

Review 15:The Resort is beautiful however the little extras were missing, eg complimentary tee times on the course on the property WiFi needs a boost. Employees were exceptional.

Review 16:The girl renting beach chairs - she was rude!

Review 17:No hidden charges, all the chairs and beds were for everyone's use, the beach was close by. All in all the facilities at the hotel were excellent.

Review 18:The pool bar had an inexperienced , untrained staffer soloing it on a Sunday afternoon. Poor management decision. The beach itself is overcrowded with unused and pricey beach furniture , taking up prime beach space. Not very handicapped friendly in this respect.

Review 19:Grounds were very quiet, no loud music in pool area or elsewhere, building set back from ocean so not imposing its view upon beach goers, the staff was always cooperative and never acted put upon, breakfast was priced well, and the grounds were immaculate.

Review 20:The charge for the cleaning fee was pretty steep. Thought it was a deposit, not a fee.

Review 21:Very nice place to stay with the dog. Plenty of room to roam and relax.

Review 22:No room to store food for restaurants refrigerator too small, no microwaves, for the cost of the room shouldn't be charges for use of water & other items in room - for the cost amenities should be included.

Review 23:Location & cleanliness of hotel

Review 24:My fiance and I wanted to take a trip somewhere we have never been. We enjoyed our stay very much, staff was very nice and greeting. Would defiantly go back.

Review 25:My only complaint was when we went to the pool there was no towels in the towel box.. We had to ask the waitress ..

Review 26:They have a great pool for the hole family. We loved the restaurant.

Review 27:A beautiful property, located right on the beach with gorgeous grounds and pool. We've stayed at a lot of luxury hotels and this was an exceptional value!

Review 28:We wanted to check out one day early bc it was raining. They wouldn't let us. Poor service at the bar two nights out of four. Not their fault but the beach is a fair way from hotel.

Review 29:Well appointed. Convenient to other things. Great chocolate bar on Friday evening.

Review 30:The food wasn't all that great but it's was ok

Review 31:The location is awesome I love the path way to the beach... I love the model of this resort very nice. I was very please with the fact that I was able to check in at 12noon after being on the road for 5 hours. And also the request I ask for in my room was, there and a amazing set up! I will go back again and again!

Review 32:Parking was difficult at times and the restaurants we too pricey.

Review 33:Generally a comfortable and clean hotel of superior quality in a good location to the beach.

Review 34:Didn't realize how many children would be in pool. But, it is a family resort. Just wish there was a separate pool for children.

Review 35:Hotel was very clean and beautifully decorated. loved our little balcony off our room. Lovely walk from pool to beach.

Review 36:We came to relax and have a stress free weekend with my family. On our first night, the a/c didnt work, the toilet wouldnt flush, the fridge was cold, the the bathtub drain was clogged. They said they fixed it but was never fixed. The wifi wasnt that good. The lady cooking omeletes at breakfast was rude. For a 4 star hotel, we would expect alot better than this.

Review 37:We liked the location, garden and beach at the resort.

Review 38:Having two young children, we had difficulty getting TV or downloaded videos to entertain them in the room. The TV had mostly basic channels and no guide so you had to channel surf to find a show to watch. This meant inappropriate things were seen or heard as we were looking for the Disney channel, etc. The Free Wifi was too slow to allow for iPad connection. Small complaints but they took away from our ability to have the kids entertained when we were in the room. Overall, we still loved our stay and would return.

Review 39:The property was beautiful. The rooms were large and comfortable. Location was perfect. The pool was very nice. Staff was very kind and helpful.

Review 40:Found blood on the outside of the shower curtain after my shower. The breakfast buffet was not on the same level as the rest of the hotel, very disappointing.

Review 41:location, beautiful grounds, staff was very friendly

Review 42:We loved everything about our stay at Sonesta in Hilton Head! It was our first trip there and we plan to go back. We also made a day trip to Savannah which was absolutely gorgeous! Highly recommend taking the time to do that! Also, while in Hilton Head you definitely need to visit Harbour Town.. Dolphin Cruise was excellent. Excellent Vacation!!!

Review 43:No microwaves on the property. For the price of the resort I feel that breakfast, as well as the beach chairs and umbrellas should have been complimentary.

Review 44:The view was amazing. The resort was quiet and relaxing.

Review 45:No bad experience, except that we tried to go to pool with wheelchair, and we couldn't find a way to take the chair to the pool.

Review 46:We loved the entire resort. We were just passing through Hilton Head, and just came upon this hotel and got a great price. We will be back. Great experience.

Review 47:No reasonably priced dinner options when traveling with kids.

Review 48:We liked the look of the hotel and the beds were very comfortable. Pool and beach area were very nice too.

Review 49:I didn't like the bartenders drinks to much, which is minor but I felt as though they could've been better.

Review 50:The rooms were comfortable and relaxing

Review 51:Didn't like that we couldn't use the luggage cart!

Review 52:We truly enjoyed everything about this resort...staff were helpful, nice, and friendly...100% of the time!

Review 53:We had a wonderful stay celebrating our 6th year anniversary. The staff even paid attention when I talked about why we were travelling, and sent us up an anniversary gift. They made us feel special and very welcomed!

Review 54:Sonesta was a great getaway for my husband & I :) I really can't think of anything to complain about. The property is picturesque and inviting and the rooms are comfortable and clean.. Will def be planning another visit:)))

Review 55:Loved everything!!!

Review 56:I called ahead and advised we were taking our son who was being deployed in week to stay here for a couple of days. Sherri called me and set up several surprises. There were chocolate covered strawberries and champagne waiting for him in our wonderful room. She then set us up at the Poseidon for dinner. What a great night. From check-in to checkout our stay was first class!!!! Thanks to all but especially Sherri!!!

Review 57:Do not let the title of resort fool you about the rooms. They are average hotel rooms much like you would find at a Holiday Inn.

Review 58:You cannot beat the location of this place. Although not on the beach, there is a short walk through the beautiful grounds to get to the beach. Two minutes after you leave your room, you are standing on the beach.

Review 59:We encountered someone vandalizing other guests vehicles. We reported the incident and it was dealt with immediately. Also, we often could not find parking at night because the lot was so full. Other than that, the experience was wonderful.

Review 60:The hotel, staff, room, and even other guests were wonderful! We enjoyed our stay!

Review 61:The pool was dirty every morning. The grouper at Seacrest was not fresh.

Review 62:Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beautiful hotel, grounds and beach. Staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 63:Not enough elevators. For someone paying top dollar for the Ocean views, we had to walk a long way to our room. Only one location of elevators.

Review 64:Views from balcony - Ocean horizon view pool and amenities location Breakfast buffet Activities

Review 65:The only thing that happened was a mishap with the cleaning crew in which they took all our used towels and didn't replace any of them.

Review 66:We ordered room service every morning and spent most of our stay relaxing by the pool or the ocean. There were so many beautiful places that made the honeymoon romantic.

Review 67:We were surprised at the number of children at the pool. Wondered about the cleanliness of the water. Pillows where way too soft...couldn't breathe if side sleeper

Review 68:Beautiful property in a great location.

Review 69:The venue itself, the friendly, professional and helpful staff. The grounds were suburb and we had heard they had just remodel all the rooms, etc so that would make the hotel great within itself. All of the guests from adults to children were very nice and engaging too.

Review 70:There is NOTHING to improve upon!

Review 71:With the outstanding assistance of our Saturday Lunch waiter - we scheduled and held a terrific Birthday Sunday lunch celebration with our entire family in the Heyward Dining room. Every employee we encountered projected the friendliest disposition - and went above and beyond with any request/question we had. We had the most relaxing vacation I can remember in quite a while. Thanks to all!

Review 72:Pool and surrounding area is too small. Drinks at the pool bar are way too expensive. Beach chairs and umbrellas should be free to guests, $32 a day! All these things add up making a return questionable

Review 73:Location is great, beach is large and well maintained. Shipyard plantation very nice

Review 74:The wifi was poor. Even with the enhanced service we were supposed to have, the connection was poor. Also would have liked some less expensive dining options. We left the property for our meals.

Review 75:The room was large and comfortable. It was quiet and peaceful. The beach is only steps away and the pool was great with plenty of chairs and shade. The service was excellent throughout the resort .

Review 76:Did not like the fact that the halls were left for hours on end with left-overs, dirty plates, food, etc. from room service that had been delivered...Heard noises as if 'critters' in the air vents during the evenings...Neither of these 2 things are acceptable in my book :-(

Review 77:Service/ staff was very good....

Review 78:Film show for children at night was noisy and took place by restaurants.

Review 79:Large modern rooms with balcony Very friendly staff Location on beach and short drive to restaurants and shops

Review 80:The welcome was a bit snotty. Not overly friendly and absolutely no guidance about the hotel. I got more from the Fairfield Suites on the overnight journey! Staff on the whole a bit aloof but didn't spoil my holiday as I wasn't there to make friends!

Review 81:Just what I wanted. A bit of affordable luxury. Clean, modern, comfortable and beautiful location. The breakfast is great and I don't think overly expensive if you go a la carte rather than the buffet. Nice poolside bar, plenty of sun loungers and shade/sun. An enjoyable week.

Review 82:Bathroom was not kept nearly as clean as it should. Only once did the housekeeper leave a breakfast menu.

Review 83:Outstanding attentiveness to service. Excellent food.

Review 84:I am very unhappy with charges that were charged to my credit card without my knowledge. When I checked out in was told that a certain amount would be credited back but have not been. Stop playing around with peoples credit cards and just charge them what they owe for the room and whatever amenities they approved to be charged.

Review 85:the pillows are made of down. They flatten out and the sides come up over your face. The beach was separated from the resort by a dune. you had to rent a chair for the beach for 10.00

Review 86:good food

Review 87:We traveled to Hilton Head for our baby moon. When we arrived they had left us presents for our soon to be baby boy. The staff was extremely helpful, photocopying and faxing documents for free. Overall, a very welcoming environment and relaxing place to stay. Oh yes, the grounds are beautiful and there is great access to the beach.

Review 88:Outside bartender was not happy for some reason. He made it very clear when we walked up that it was last call.

Review 89:Location and staff made the stay excellent.

Review 90:We decided to spend our 15yr anniversary at the Sonesta as analternative to traveling to a further destination simply due to factorsthat were out of our control. I was already a little deflated that wecouldn't go with our original plans, but I definitely feel thatSonesta was an awesome plan b! When checking in, I noticed how beautifulthe place was, very pleasing to the eyes, and during check-in, I was"simply" asked if we were traveling for any special occasionand of course I responded "Yes, its our 15yr Anniversary (with ahuge, proud smile on my face)", and they were so sweet andcongratulatory and I have to say, just that front desk encounter withthose ladies, made me feel very welcome. So its Very true, that firstimpressions can make or break a situation. Anyway, we checked in, (wewere allowed to check in a little early). The room was very nice, comfortable, and just asthetically delightful, and we could look out onour balcony to see the pool and the grounds of the hotel/resort,which were also laid out nicely. About an hour after checking in, we geta knock at the door: Its a waiter with a beautifully gifted bottle ofchampagne and some chocolate covered strawberries- (a complimentary giftfrom the hotel!!!) I was simply amazed that these people would take thetime out to be that thoughtful, that was huge to me. Anyway, the barstaff was excellent and kind, we did not dine at the resort because wesaw all sorts of nearby restaurants that we had been planning to visitso we took advantage of them (this resort is in a great locationrelative to all sorts of restaurants), So I can't comment on thefood there. Altogether In a nutshell, my husband and I were very happywith the fact that we chose to spend our time here and we willdefinitely return, and I would like to thank every one of the members ofthe staff for their hospitality!

Review 91:Parking lot filled daily

Review 92:Friendly, considerate, helpful staff! Easy access to beach. Bike rental on property Restaurants on property Convenience store on site

Review 93:A little on the pricey side for the buffet breakfast and bike rental but you have to do both.

Review 94:Friendly and helpful staff, great location and great room.

Review 95:EMILY who checked us in was informative and friendly. Fortunately she was available whenever we had a question. Gave delicious recommendations for dinner and breakfast. Sonesta is very fortunate to have Emily on their staff.

Review 96:Not a bad experience, but a typical resort hotel geared to golfers and large conventions

Review 97:The staff was wonderful, especially a wonderful woman (Sharri) at the Concierge desk.

Review 98:We loved everything about our 3 night stay at the Sonesta this week. Our room was spacious, the pool very pretty during the day and at night. The bed was beyond comfortable. The food at Hayward's was yummy and Sherry at the concierge was super helpful. Hilton Head is the Maui of the East Coast!

Review 99:Would be good if the espresso bar would be open in the mornings at breakfast time.

Review 100:Nice hotel, recent contemporary decoration. Friendly staff and good facilities. Right by the beach.

Review 101:The door connecting our room to the adjacent room was inadequately soundproofed. Normal conversation/TV was audible between the rooms.

Review 102:The location of this Sonesta Resort on the beach at Hilton Head is superb and the grounds are very attractive. The hotel itself is first class with a variety of dining choices and well decorated, comfortable, and clean accommodations. The staff is efficient, friendly, and committed to making the guest's stay an enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.

Review 103:Hot tub wasn't working and some compensation for having to be outside for fire would have been appreciated as we had travelled all day and were tired.

Review 104:Very comfortable and clean

Review 105:no parking no offer of help with bags tailgating for some party in the parking lot for the price you pay not any better than a motel the two rooms outside of ours had about it sounded like 15 to 20 young adults in it being loud and unrespectable to the other guest staying there

Review 106:Room was clean bed was comfy

Review 107:I don't like that they make you pay extra for wifi that actually worked. It also took over 45 minutes for the hot water to come on in the shower, with signs up about how environmental they are, you'd figure they wouldn't want that.

Review 108:This place is fantastic, everything is beautiful & the staff are very friendly. The restaurants are delicious & the rooms are comfortable.

Review 109:so what makes this a 'resort' and what is the 'resort fee' for? bikes were extra. there was no sauna or steam in a public access locker room. no extra 'events' going on? a pool?? okay: motel 6 has a pool(plus, not their fault, it was too cold to use it). It was a very very nice hotel but ??resort

Review 110:pretty lobby. nice rooms. great location i.e. very easy access to the beach.

Review 111:Since we travel with a pet I wished we were able to sit outside by the bar area and have a drink and relax and enjoy the scenery. We have a pet with separation issues. She gets upset when she can't be with us. I know it is silly but she is a rescue and we paid good money to stay in at the resort, but we weren't able to enjoy the resort to its potential. Just wanted to sit outside and enjoy the scenery. Instead we had a patio that was surrounded by bushes. We couldn't see much.

Review 112:Beautiful, Clean, and the staff was very nice.

Review 113:Parking issues one evening due to hosted events and number of attendees.

Review 114:Very friendly and helpful staff. beautiful grounds and location. very convenient for secondary travel/enjoyment.

Review 115:The only criticism I have is that the walls are very thin and if you are allocated a room with a connecting door you can hear every sound from the connecting room ( and presumably they can hear you!) the hotel hosts many functions including weddings and because the hotel is designed around a central atrium the noise carries up to the rooms.

Review 116:The hotel staff and facilities are excellent and I cannot fault them. The pool is lovely.

Review 117:Palms trees, and the walk from hotel to the ocean. I liked that the Ocean was hidden, behind the dunes. My favorite was the area between the pool and the Ocean. Also, the trees around the Parking lot.

Review 118:Breakfast was good but not excellent. The price for the buffet with coffee was just over $60.00 with tax. I found that to be excessive wor the quality of food offered. The dinner buffet had cold prime rib (supposed to be hot) and baked potatoes that were both hard and cold. The second and third replacements were also cold.

Review 119:Everything was well don except for the food service.

Review 120:Beach access is too far. Pool too cold, needs to be heated.

Review 121:Beautiful resort, but could not find my reservation when I checked in. Acted like I did not make it two days before. Finally found it, but still questioned what I said. Had to show them the email from Bookings.com to confirm that I had indeed made it before arrival.

Review 122:Parking what parking? better plan on buying the valet option for $20 a day extra if you plan on stepping out on the weekends. not many options for restaurants or bars at the hotel. and they are kid friendly so expect a lot of kids yelling and crying around the pool area in the early morning.

Review 123:The facilities were first rate. Staff was friendly. Location was secluded and semi private. Rooms were very comfortable with the latest furnishings. billing was very convenient. and yes they accommodate small pets with special rooms that have direct access to the pet trails.

Review 124:My husband felt the mattress hurt his back. We are used to memory foam. I had no problem with it. We would have liked a small store with more options for an inexpensive lunch. A better selection of yogurt, a deli, or small premade sandwiches.

Review 125:The room was quiet and clean. Decor was updated, modern and calming. Cleaning staff was consistent and prompt. We were able to check in early, which was so convenient after driving all night.

Review 126:The room we were in was really far from elevator so traveling everyday to beach to car carrying tons of bags was annoying

Review 127:As a family vacation we liked that it wasn't an obnoxious environment

Review 128:A bit pricey for the room, and a dumb resort fee each day. Bar/Grille at pool closes at the latest 6pm each day. Restaurants on site are expensive, should have some finger food cheap options available. Hotel is fairly large, so depending on where your room is, you could have some long walks. Parking can be a little tight. Beach chairs are not free

Review 129:Clean, updated, great staff and well maintained building and landscape. Pool was nice with a deep end, and beach entrance. Plenty of food options on site. Beach just a short walk across a boardwalk.

Review 130:Would like a nicer pet friendly room that is better than the standard room.

Review 131:The layout was cohesive and flowed well. Felt nice without feeling gouged. Never felt our pets were not welcome.

Review 132:I can't think of anything we didn't like.

Review 133:We loved our room with a balcony, refrigerator, and morning coffee. Our view of the pool was lovely. Food was above average, staff was helpful and the resort was well maintained.

Review 134:There was a sound that kept me awake the 1st two nights. Sounded like someone was snoring in the next room. It turns out it was the mini-fridge - by the 3rd night, I was so tired I slept through it.

Review 135:Loved the cleanliness of the hotel and the surrounding city. We are planning a family trip for the Sonesta for next summer.

Review 136:I didn't like the fact that I paid almost 450.00 a night for ocean view. It was just that ocean view from a distance.. It is not oceanfront from the balcony! That was kind of misleading. The ocean is a good 1/4 mile from your room! This needs to be noted!

Review 137:I liked it because its a equal distance to everything. Nothing is to far to drive too.
