Reviews for Hotel Sanglier des Ardennes
Review 1:Wifi was adequate in room at best. No mini-bar prices found. No shower holder or curtain.
Review 2:Restaurant staff were excellent. Hotel looked great in it's picturesque setting. Comfortable room.
Review 3:The room looked much bigger on the photo's on the internet and actually it was quite small
Review 4:The room was very neat with a huge flatscreen TV and a bath in the middle of the room
Review 5:Room was cold ( near jacuzzi - door leading to exterior ). As we were located on the roof we had constant noise from other guests shouting over the noise of the spa bath. Room needed a good clean, was very dusty. Room needed to be repainted, was shabby. During our stay we were never asked by a staff member if everything was ok. I had the impression that the hotel was neglected and staff were indifferent.
Review 6:The location. The breakfast.
Review 7:Drain smell from the outside - we assume this was because of the roadworks at the back of the hotel,
Review 8:As above and our room had a great view of the river. Delightful town.
Review 9:Rude Staff This claims to be 4* yet you are treated as though it is a motel. Staff need training! Smelly lift, smells of damp dog. leaking ceiling in corridor, no warning and thus leaked onto my head.
Review 10:Location
Review 11:dragging suitcases over a steep slope to the parking lot, no assistance available
Review 12:excellent gastronomic restaurant
Review 13:problems of cleanlinessand loss ceramics in the bathroom ...
Review 14:staff always sympathetic high level restaurant and gastronomy
Review 15:the staff were not really friendly. poor breakfast considering the price
Review 16:location, size of room
Review 17:The 1953 armagnack is somewhat expensive. But apreciate by our guests.
Review 18:Fantastic place, I have been coming ther for the past 25 years. Dinner brunch, fantastic. Kind regards Mats
Review 19:The head waitress ( lady with black and glasses) has no education and no professionalism If the owner interested to learn more, always avaialble A real pity that a restaurant of such high quality put its reputation at risk employing such a person
Review 20:Breakfast poor value for money. Having to walk through kitchen to get to the bar and breakfast area! Having to find staff.
Review 21:Location, room, restaurant, wine!
Review 22:No margarine at breakfast (I'm lactose intolerant and can't eat dairy products). No Earl Grey tea bags at breakfast (I had to ask and the waitress made me feel I was being a nuisance). We didn't feel it was hygienic that we had to walk through the kitchen to access the breakfast room. No hot food for breakfast (bacon, egg, sausage). No complementary toiletries in bathroom. One of the spot lights was not working.
Review 23:Old wooden beams in room. Very nice terrace. Brasserie Fred decor light and cheerful. Bar was very atmospheric with nice colours. Very friendly man on reception.
Review 24:Arrogant staff member who wasn't helpful when we had problems with wifi. We were overcharged by $260 which we had to bring to their attention. The food we had in the brasserie was average, little disappointing considering their fine-dining restaurant is so highly rated though we didn't eat there so cannot justify the rating.
Review 25:Spacious room and lovely bathroom.
Review 26:This is the first place we go to where a "gourmet" dinner does not include wine or any other drinks. On the webpage of the hotel there is no information whatsoever on whether drinks are included in the room rate. At the dinner, we were just asked if we wanted the wine selection of the chef or to chose a wine from the list. We chose the chef's selection, and we were charged 30 euro per person at the end. We even had to pay 5 euro per bottle of water! None of this is transparent and the waiters do not provide any information as to the prices. Further, being a young couple we got the worst table at the restaurant which was in the middle of the passing way of the waiters. They clearly favored elderly people and catered their needs and wishes. The staff at the Sunday brunch was also rude and was making you feel uncomfortable when trying to order drinks which were btw included in the brunch rate - you had to insist in order to be served. All in all, the service was disappointing and we felt ripped off.
Review 27:The surroundings are beautiful, the hotel is quite nice, the standard rooms are not very spacious, the traditional style is preserved though. The spa is nice particularly because you need to reserve and it does not get crowded. The food is great (both the brunch and the dinner), the selection of wines as well.
Review 28:Location: in a beautiful little medieval village (claimed to be the smallest city in the world). Facilities: comfortable room with a private balcony overlooking the river
Review 29:Attention to detail was not as expected. Our vegetarian friend was not looked after at all well, in spite of discussions with restaurant staff. Seemed very impersonal. Probably would not go back again.
Review 30:Stayed here 25 years ago. Then very good and attention to detail was superb. This time there were many changes, some improvements. Food was excellent.
Review 31:We had to close the windows at night so the room got rather warm.
Review 32:Our room was quite large and spacious. The bathroom with the really deep tub was nice. We were at the front of the hotel so we looked over the town.
Review 33:Room was at front of first floor and was quite noisy from traffic. Alsoa blue light which illuminated the front of the hotel until aboutmidnight shone in the windows making it quite light for sleeping. Noairconditioning, so rather warm at night. Bathroom had bath but only ahand held shower with no screen which was awkward.Restaurant was very slow service, expensive and not as good as previous visits a few years ago. Breakfast OK, rather expensive. However both of these are optional extras and there are plenty of other places to eat in Durbuy.
Review 34:Great location, very pretty scenery and charming old town. Good sizedroom with pleasant decor (if a little tired). Friendly staff. Largebathroom. Comfortable bed.
Review 35:Parking was free but sometimes unavailable and rather dicey to get into. This was a minor issue and the staff provided alternate space.
Review 36:The location in the heart of the Ardennes and in an historic town was agreat base for a holiday in the area. The staff were excellent in everyway, the food was excellent and we loved our views overlooking theriver. The atmosphere of this old and elegant establishment engaged usinstantly. We will return if we should ever holiday in south-eastBelgium again.
Review 37:The staff didn't cover the front desk 24 hours a day.
Review 38:The location was beautiful a small town with wonderful shops. The hotelrestaurant and bar were fabulous. Relaxing, wonderful wine selections, and the most delicious food.
Review 39:There wasn't anything we disliked, apart from the cow hides used on lamp shades and seats in the Brasserie Fred where we had our breakfast, but I guess this is a matter of personal taste. The only issue we had - safe locked so we couldn't use it at first - was dealt with quickly and professionally. I would like to suggest a small shoe cleaning kit in the room which is usually available in a hotel of this category. In the expectation of it, we hadn't brought our own. A useful little thing, especially after walking in the wet countryside.
Review 40:Durbuy is one of our favourite short-stay haunts, but this was our first time at the SdA, because our usual hotel had no rooms available for the dates we wanted. The SdA is more pricey, but as it was our silver wedding anniversary, worth every euro we spent. Staff were courteous and very obliging, our superb gourmet anniversary dinner an event to remember, made even more special by our charming and attentive waiter who delighted us with a couple of little surprises. We made good use of the wellness centre. We loved our room with a view of the river, but were unable to make use of the terrace, due to the chilly and showery weather. We have asked to be put on the SdA's mailing list for future offers/ events.
Review 41:Quaintness, location, view and overall atmosphere. We were there during the Christmas Market.
Review 42:Staff rude and unhelpfull
Review 43:Nice room. Good location.
Review 44:very nice restaurant and breakfast.
Review 45:Kindly Good food(Dinner) Beautiful environment
Review 46:Parking was tight, spa was not open late.
Review 47:Good location, excellent food, loved the decor.
Review 48:- The room are old, the heather was not working - For the price you still have to take care of your luggages when you arrived
Review 49:The restaurant
Review 50:Because it was a room of the road side, the noise was noisy.
Review 51:The views were lovely. We loved the room with its beamed ceilings. The food was great.
Review 52:We enjoied the dinner and breakfirst very much.
Review 53:Very poor service and language, french an flämisch only, no english, no word german.
