Reviews for Grand Junction Palomino Inn

Review 1:Heater was a bit noisy and the room was an icebox when we first arrived.

Review 2:Comfortable bed, very pleasant staff, very clean. Great place if you are looking for a place to crash for the night. Good value.

Review 3:This is an older single story motel that is super clean and in great condition. After I booked it I thought I should have gotten something higher priced, because something in this price range would be a dump. The room was a little old fashioned, but clean and neat as can be. Nice people, park at the door, best deal on earth. I would guess that prices are higher in the summer, but in the winter this is hard to beat.

Review 4:Very friendly staff/owner. Exceptionally clean. Comfortable bed, quiet. Although an older style 'motor inn', it has been remodeled and rooms are modern and comfortable.

Review 5:The combo heater/A-C unit fan blew a bit too hard even on low. No towel hooks in bathroom, a minor issue - we hung them on the shower curtain rod.

Review 6:Well maintained older, traditional style motel. Comfortable queen beds. Our quiet room was toward the rear. Although no shelf above sink for toiletries, there was one above the toilet that was large enough. Good breakfast selection and good coffee. Appreciated the mini-fridge for keeping travel food cold. Owner (wife) was very cheerful and friendly when we checked out. Husband is very quiet but was friendly when we spoke with him. My two eastern European grandfathers were the same.

Review 7:On the occasions when my wife and I travel by car we have always wished we could stay at "old school" motels.....but we usually chicken out and go with the chain hotels. I read the favorable reviews of the Palomino Motel, and we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The room was squeaky clean and comfortable. We had a cocktail on the bench outside the room and watched the sunset. Then we walked to a fairly good Mexican restaurant for dinner. Three weeks ago I stayed at the Doubletree on Stone St in the Wall street area in NY, and spent $530. Our room at the Palomino was just as big, just as clean, and just as comfortable. If the Palomino owners went to IKEA and refurnished with some cheap trendy furniture, and modern lighting fixtures they'd be comparable. I enjoyed the comfortable retro at The Palomino. The complimentary breakfast was what you'd expect from a chain (the eggs were better than we had at a Hampton Inn the morning before).

Review 8:Only negatives would be that there is no place to put clothing (drawers), so would recommend only an overnight or two for a stay. It's also quite a ways off the interstate.

Review 9:This facility had the appearance of being recently renovated and/or updated. The room was wonderful, the bed comfortable. While the bath was small, it was well appointed and the sheets and towels were soft and we slept very well. The place was quiet, as well. Didn't have any problems with other people's noise who left earlier than we did.

Review 10:Just basic facilities. For the price this isn't really an issue though.

Review 11:Nice, clean rooms with lovely beds and a friendly staff. A basic but pretty good breakfast was provided. In the area you've got lots of options to go wine tasting and you've got the beautiful area around the Colorado National Monument just nearby.

Review 12:The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was very good. They even opened the breakfast early because many guests needed to go to an event. Great stay.

Review 13:Smokers puffing by entry.

Review 14:High quality bedding and furnishings, generous breakfast with good variety, super clean room with updated bathroom all in great condition. Friendly checkin staff. Accommodating to cyclists. Close enough to downtown yet better value rates than downtown properties. Much quieter than expected for its major street location.

Review 15:The pool was cold. The room was a little stuffy and we couldn't open the window due to the noise from the highway. Request room far from the hwy if possible.

Review 16:For a one night stop, the room had a pleasant atmosphere, the breakfast was excellent and the location near downtown was very convenient to find a good restaurant for dinner where we could walk around.

Review 17:The only thing that wasn't great was the size of the bathroom. There was no counter for toiletries, only a little glass shelf. But that's because of the age of the building. They remodeled it nicely, however, and provided good soap and shampoo.

Review 18:We chose the Palomino Inn based on the numerous positive reviews, and we weren't disappointed. This small, old motel has been renovated and is well maintained. It has a more "homey" feel than most lodging. I absolutely loved the bedding! Very unique, very pretty. And I was surprised to see a shower curtain with butterflies on it! We appreciated having good water pressure (a gripe I have with many hotels). We liked having the TV mounted high in the corner. The breakfast was very good, offering plain scrambled eggs and scrambled with bacon. There were waffles and the other usual items. The owners live on-site, and we felt their pride of ownership. The Palomino is a good value for the money and we would definitely stay there again.

Review 19:We felt that the room could have been a little cleaner. The hair dryer looked as though it hadn't been taken down and it, the cords and the socket cleaned in quite some time.

Review 20:The location and the price.

Review 21:Friendly welcome and intimate small motel. The owners maintain a very clean establishment. Nice touches -furniture, scoop ice machine and good complimentary breakfast.

Review 22:No towel racks or hooks in the bathroom.

Review 23:This motel looked brand new! Our king room was beautiful and the bed very comfy. We really enjoyed the morning breakfast that was offered and I highly recommend this motel!

Review 24:Proximity of main road somewhat noisy, even at night

Review 25:Staff very friendly and helpful; breakfast included; excellent Italian restaurant in walking distance

Review 26:Asked for a late checkout at breakfast but it was forgotten or misunderstood. I suggest you ask for a specific late checkout time to prevent confusion.

Review 27:Breakfast Price

Review 28:It was difficult business wise because the room had no plugs that could accommodate laptop... Cell phones, ect. WiFi was awful... Also the owner was very rude about smoking and we were OUTSIDE... !!! No breakfast like they said there was... Very low budget and old... (A/C really loud) Totally over priced...!!!

Review 29:Location was good for us and it was nice and quiet.

Review 30:None

Review 31:Excellent host. Very clean premises and rooms. Bed is comfortable. Air conditioner humming away keeps things quiet. Very nice old-timey motor inn.

Review 32:noise A/C extra charge for kid Room too close to main street

Review 33:great breakfast clean bedings tons of TV channels a lot of facilities like microwave oven, refrig, free ice

Review 34:THE PRICE WAS GREAT FOR THE ROOM WE HAD. The lady at check in was very nice. The waffles were very good. Great place for a hub to venture out to tellride glenwood etc.

Review 35:The barrenness of the location. Except for the VA hospital it was just a part of town with fast food places and strip malls.

Review 36:The little touches of home that the owners put in each room! The friendliness of the family who owns the motel.

Review 37:Very small bathroom and it wasn't what I consider an Inn but an older motel that was upgraded internally

Review 38:Very well put together room for the size. Two big comfortable chairs and a work desk with a chair

Review 39:What more can I say other than the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the location was great and easy to find...would most definitely stay here again if passing through this way.

Review 40:A/C was a little loud but everything else considered, not a big deal.

Review 41:Very close to Mesa University. If you're visiting your child in college, it's perfect for a nights stay or two. Very clean, comfortable, updated and nice. By far the best motel I've ever stayed in.

Review 42:Wifi was slow-to-nonexistent for me but it could have been my issue and not theirs for sure.

Review 43:Very clean, comfortable. Breakfast better than imagined for a motel (or even a regular chain hotel!). Very pleasant proprietors. No issues at all.

Review 44:Too much light came in through the blinds on the window. Bathroom sink could use a shelf above or near it. It was just a small sink with no place to put toiletries.

Review 45:Very clean and comfortable

Review 46:Be cautious of the vending machines, they like to take your dollars. I did get money back from owners.

Review 47:An excellent hotel. The owners are very nice and informative. Pointed me to a great Italian restaurant, Sergio's, and also gave me other options if I so choose. This is a nice place to stay.

Review 48:The pool was pretty cold. But after swimming for a few minutes it's not too bad.

Review 49:The bed was super comfortable and the breakfast was awesome! Overall it was a nice fairly inexpensive stay.

Review 50:The room smelled fresh and was very clean. Everything worked well: there was a plug in for my computer and phone charger, AC wasn't smelling and had a remote, and the faucets were new easy to use. The owners take pride in their family run business!

Review 51:Incredibly rude man at the front desk. On our roadtrip we've visited over 25 Motels and Inn's and never have we been treated like this.

Review 52:Clean, good breakfast

Review 53:Most of the room was very clean, however the carpet was not. I don't know if this is due to the fact that it is a motor inn and you walk into the room directly from the black asphalt parking lot, but the bottoms of your feet, shoes, and socks are black after just a few steps around the room. After we discovered this, we would immediately put shoes on after a shower and did not ever kneel on the floor. Because everything else is so nice about this place, it would only make sense to tend to this issue.

Review 54:The managers/owners were very friendly. And for the price, the breakfast was very good. There was the typical breads and juices, but also scrambled eggs, with or without crumbled bacon, waffles, and bananas. And the coffee was wonderful. The rooms were nicely decorated and the beds were very comfortable!

Review 55:The male owner was very unfriendly and rude, the lady was exceptionallynice and welcoming! The pool was a bit dirty on the bottum, like thefilter may not have been working properly or they needed to sweep it.

Review 56:The decor in the rooms was very nice, and the breakfast was great!

Review 57:My boys were disappointed that they weren't allowed to jump into the pool. Water was cold and jumping was the only fun way to keep warm. But the pool was clean and fine otherwise.

Review 58:Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of choices. Front desk staff was amazingly kind and helpful. Room was huge and immaculate. We were pleasantly surprised by all aspects of our stay!

Review 59:The location is not inviting, but what the heck.

Review 60:Swimming pool is great in a hot place like Grand Junction! We also appreciated the spacious chairs and beds.

Review 61:You have to get towel racks in the bathroom-this is VERY needed.

Review 62:we liked the small tables because we could use them as TV trays to eat on and the refrigerator as well

Review 63:We booked our reservation with an agency online so check in was very fast and efficient. When we arrived the owner gave us the choice of a "firm or soft mattress" which was nice since it made us feel that she cared about her patrons. The outside of the motel looks like a typical 70's style, but the interior was very clean, comfortable, well maintained and larger than expected. The convenience of free wifi was also a nice surprise. The breakfast that was served from 7-10 a.m. was good with a nice variety to meet all dietary needs. Lastly, the grounds of the motel were exceptionally clean with a basketball hoop and pool that we did not utilize since we had not packed a suit. The owner was of Polish descent and was very pleasant, efficient and professional. Overall, it was a great experience with the price very reasonable for the accommodations.

Review 64:Customer service was very accommodating very helpful and happy to be at her job! That made a big difference. The bed was very, very comfortable and the room was clean and tidy.

Review 65:It was quite cozy...very clean rooms. I was surprise bre.akfast usually you would just get cold cereal & muffins but not here it was that & then some...I would stay here again.

Review 66:The area was an older part of the city, so wasn't able to get a good feel about it. We were able to get out and walk and did feel comfortable.

Review 67:The rooms were clean and comfortable. There was a Mexican restaurant close enough to walk to.

Review 68:No shade in pool area.

Review 69:This is one of the cleanest motel rooms I ever experienced. The staff was very friendly and seemed interested in my satisfaction.

Review 70:This old style motel is off the beaten track but only a short ways, and we'll worth your visit!. The owners have meticulously refurbished these rooms to a standard of high hotels with lovely linens, really nice beds, and spotless attention to cleanliness. Many restaurants are nearby, but I chose to stay in with wifi, and relax. Breakfast had everything you could think of as well. All included in a remarkably low cost! Book it early on your way.

Review 71:Vent in bathroom ceiling needed cleaning, but I told the owner and I'm sure she took care of it right away.

Review 72:Very clean with pretty decor. Quite small but adequate - had frig and microwave. Owner very pleasant. Had a nice breakfast, unexpected for that nature of motel.

Review 73:Not really a bad experience but did not like the fact that I could not pay with cash. Every where else I stayed on my 7 day trip let me pay bill with cash.

Review 74:The décor of the room was nice, like having a nice tv in room and no problems with wifi for planning next day travels. Close to lots of food, both sit down and fast food.

Review 75:Room smelled strongly of cleaning products.

Review 76:Front desk agent very helpful and friendly. Gave us food to take to our room since we were checking out before breakfast.

Review 77:The carpet in the room was filthy! Everything else seemed nicely cleanedbut after showering and walking around the room for a few hours beforebed, we noticed our feet were almost black. They need to do a shampoofor sure. Bathrooms are also a bit tiny but manageable.

Review 78:The beds here were very comfortable and the room nicely appointed for amotel; had a bit more character than the average place. The Polish womanwho runs it is nice and does a good job of offering a nice range ofbreakfast eats, including tasty scrambled eggs with bits of bacon, quality yogurt, and more.

Review 79:With the King bed I requested, it seemed a bit cramped for space. Glad I was traveling solo.

Review 80:Felt very safe in a strange town, almost like being at home. No bells and whistles just down-to-earth comfort.

Review 81:De Pool was niet open

Review 82:Ontvangst was zeer vriendelijk Kamer voor ons 4 en ruim genoeg Zeer goed ontbijt, een van de beste gedurende ons 32 dagen durende rondreis.

Review 83:Non Smoking rooms - but there was a Bench for Smokers and an ashtray right outside our door.

Review 84:Cute little place - clean, comfortable and easy to find location.

Review 85:The man at the desk on check in was not very friendly, but the lady at checkout was very nice. The room stank so bad of carpet fresh we had to leave the windows open to air out while we investigated the town. The WIFI was horrible.

Review 86:The room was spacious and comfortable. Seemed clean until you looked closely behind things like the coffee pot.

Review 87:This could just be one random fluke but the microwave in my room was inoperable & well, what's a no go for me is dirty bed sheets. I'm talking about yellow stains--- ew. I barely spent time in the room but great last minute price for a great location.

Review 88:Extremely sweet owners!

Review 89:Admittedly, the mattress was a bit more firm than I am used to, and could have used an iron in the room (although the hostess offered her own iron).

Review 90:The room was very clean, spacious enough, and located near Main street without the Main street price tag. Love the fact that there is a coffeemaker, MW, and decent sized fridge in the room.

Review 91:I was there on vacation and was told by the gentleman that worked there, that there was basically a curfew at 10 pm and I couldn't have visitors. This was not disclosed to me when I reserved 5 days there for my stay, because of him making me feel so uncomfortable, I checked out and stayed at another hotel in town for the rest of my stay!!

Review 92:The continental breakfast was good

Review 93:Seems petty, but not being able to turn off the fan in the bathroom was something we didn't like. It was very loud and you couldn't hear anything else when it was on.

Review 94:Very clean. Nothing luxurious, but had everything we needed for an overnight stay. Close to CMU campus, restaurants and stores. Appeared recently updated. Breakfast was more than adequate. Great place for the price. We'll be back when it's time to move our college kid back to campus.

Review 95:The staff were really friendly and welcoming. The room was really comfortable and I had an excellent night's sleep. Really convenient location for downtown and for I70.

Review 96:Recognize this is a vintage motel which has been totally renovated so the rooms are smaller than you might find at a chain

Review 97:Clean and comfortable, excellent breakfast, newly remodeled, friendly, VALUE, fun throwback to 60s

Review 98:We needed a place to crash in Grand Junction and Palamino Inn was perfect! We were just close enough to go out to explore the parks the next morning.

Review 99:Nice little continental breakfast complete with toaster ovens for toasting bagels. Decent coffee for a continental breakfast. Choice of a memory foam or firm mattress. The innkeeper is a lovely woman who inherited the business from her mother in law and clearly performs her job with integrity and hard work.

Review 100:One tiny thing . . . I wish the bathroom had a little more room for our personal effects, and a towel ring for the hand towel! That's IT!!

Review 101:This is our fourth stay. The family that owns it takes great pride in their establishment. The rooms are more than sufficiently clean and adequate . . . everything a traveler could need. They are very close to Mesa State University, where our son attends and we visit frequently.

Review 102:After a very long stretch of driving, having a very tidy, welcoming place to crash was a very welcome experience. The business owner is obviously committed to having a nice place for moderate charge. Very much a bargain.

Review 103:The heating/air system is sholder high and blows air right into our face when going into the bathroom, closet area, coffee and microwave area which was very annoying. No towel rods. But, the room was very clean and comfortable

Review 104:Clean and comfortable. Close to campus.

Review 105:The cleanliness and comfort of our room couldn't have been better. The bath was a tad small. The free breakfast was much, much more than a continental breakfast.

Review 106:You can only access the hotel from West bound North Ave.

Review 107:I have stayed at the Holiday Inn, Comfort, and Hilton in this town. The Palomino is by far the best value for the money. The high dollar rooms are not nearly as clean, or quiet. The Beds at the Palomino are the most comfortable.

Review 108:No extra toilet paper. No tissues. No towel rack in bathroom. No place to put things in bathroom. Bathroom light switch hidden outside bathroom. Coffee maker stacked on top of microwave stacked on top of small fridge - in the back of the closet.

Review 109:Nice clean new look. Big screen TV (that we did not use). Sofa & two chairs & nice desk. Good heater - not too loud. Breakfast contained everything expected: eggs, toast, waffles, juice, coffee, cereal, and so on. King-size bed. Reasonably quiet. Strong Wi-Fi signal and fast enough to use.

Review 110:The lady who owns the property was incredibly nice and very helpful. She went above and beyond to give us and all the other guests everything we needed - and helped direct us to local attractions.

Review 111:The rooms were super clean, the staff was friendly, the free continental breakfast was above and beyond what other places typically offer. Even the outside of the building was near spotless.

Review 112:It's not in the greatest part of town. The bathroom is small, but it's clean and adequate for the two of us.

Review 113:The rooms are very clean and comfortable! The area is quiet. We like having the fridge, microwave and COFFEE POT!! It's close to CMU.

Review 114:Heating unit is not in the living area making that area more difficult to keep warm (the weather hovered above slightly zero F), but can be accommodated.

Review 115:Staff was great, the location was good in that you could walk to a couple of restaurants, of which the Mexican restaurant was excellent.

Review 116:Only thing I could find to say in the negative is that the ice machine was out of order and there was no onsite coin-op laundry. Across the street is a little washerette that will do drop off on laundry on short notice or you can use the coin-op machines. As for ice -- you’re on your own.

Review 117:This property is like going back in time to the 1950s. However, everything in the room is brand new. I learned that the lady at the front desk and her husband completely restored the property to its near original 1955 décor. The lamps, big mirror, furniture. headboard, and the bathroom are all in the old style but are brand new. The whole room was recently painted. The 1955 feel hits you at check in when you are handed the key to your room. -- Yes a real key with one of those old style big plastic tabs on the ring that has the room # stamped on it along with the motel name and address. The heck with key card security - this is ultimately cool! The room was spotlessly clean. The bed was perfect. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was simple but presented well. The one-story buildings are solid red brick (not the fake brick siding). Although the rooms are circa 1955 style, they also have all the things we have become so dependent on. Big flat screen TV with basic cable; Free Wifi, and microwave and fridge. If you would like the experience of a real 1950s motel - this is it. Do not be scared by the low room rate and the old style sign out front. This is a clean well run motel that offers you as comfortable a stay as you would get at any top line national chain but at less than half the price!

Review 118:I travel with a certified service dog (11 pounds) in her own crate, trained, hypoallergetic. The manager went off that we had her in the room. We left at 6 am to continue our long driving trip and made to feel like we were sneaking out.'Very confrontive and uncomfortable.'

Review 119:We arrived at 12:30am. The I keeper was rude from the start. He seemed angry from the moment we walked in. He went to the other side of the hotel and spied on us through the blinds of another room as we unloaded our stuff. We had our friend's dog who we had been pet sitting and went to return him but he had passed out on us. We returned to the hotel at 1am and since there were no pets allowed in our room and the inn keepers were no longer around we had our dog sleep in the car. In the morning we drove our dog a block away to let him go to the bathroom. Upon returning the inn keeper met us at our car and asked if there was a dog in the car. We replied yes abs he immediately asked us to leave the property and never come back. We told him what had happened and he completely disregarded anything we had to say and continued to tell us how many years he was in the business and that we were no longer his customers and we should leave. Then his wife called booking.com and over exaggerated and lied to them about what had happened. It was so childish. I have been in the hotel business my whole life and I have never experienced such poor hospitality. Our friends dog never touched the property and we returned him to his owner that day. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Review 120:They refunded for the second night and I will never have to see these rude people ever again.

Review 121:Not in the best part of town. But we felt safe and we didn't spend a whole lot of time in the motel anyhow.

Review 122:The location was very close to the school, which was nice. The room was clean, the bed was comfy and the owners were friendly. They also provided breakfast, which was more than adequate.

Review 123:El Palomino is a delightful throwback to the Mom and Pop era of motels. The owners were very friendly, the room was extra clean and totally reconditioned. No big hotel chain mentality here. This place is a keeper.

Review 124:The manager was very nice, personable, and pleasant. The continental breakfast was very good with scrambled and hard boiled eggs. I would recommend this inn highly.

Review 125:pretty close to the road but we took a room in the back so was quiet. no clock in room. no towel bars to hang used wet towels

Review 126:Room was newly remodeled and very clean. We'd stay there again

Review 127:Only disappointment was that we'd read that breakfast included eggs and bacon...and there was only cereal and bagels or muffins. They did have hard boiled eggs which was appreciated.

Review 128:Our room was spotless and very comfortable. I really appreciate the care that is taken.
