Reviews for National 9 Inn Gillette

Review 1:The heater wouldn't kick off. Had to go buy a fan for my room cuz they took out the air already and it was 60 degrees outside it was 85 in the room

Review 2:I like that they have smoking and non smoking rooms very clean

Review 3:Having the hotel call the cops when I was doing nothing wrong. No attempt to talk to me, no asking me to leave. I was smoking in a smoking room. Finding out that someone else was able to get a cheaper rate for the same room was great too. They even had a pet!!!

Review 4:My favorite part of my stay was checking out.

Review 5:There was a dirty white sock underneath one of the beds

Review 6:I liked the staff very nice and helpful love that it has smoking rooms and 24hr restaurant on weekends and the bar is quit nice also

Review 7:Rooms need to be updated, smelled musty and actually was stuffed up the remainder of the trip - not a good place if you have allergies

Review 8:Breakfast was good

Review 9:Older property, not as clean as others I've seen. Some repairs needed in my room.

Review 10:Quiet, nice breakfast in adjacent café (apparently for online registrants only).

Review 11:My GPS couldn't find it.

Review 12:It was very close to where I needed to be, it was a good value for the money at the last minute, and the breakfast was a great value - not continental or buffet - a real restaurant breakfast right there.

Review 13:Even though we had a non-smoking room, the hallways smelled like smoke. Our bathtub didn't have plug.

Review 14:We arrived fairly late at night and the gentleman behind the desk was very helpful at switching our rooms (we booked here/online) so that we and our small children weren't in a smoking room (i must have missed that on my phone) as well as bringing up the pack n play to our room for our son. The included breakfast for reserving online was more than expected - I guess I'm just used to continental breakfast, but here we had a few options for hot breakfasts in their restaurant.

Review 15:Older facility, shows lots of wear. Refrigerator didn't work, wifi didn't work, t.v. didn't work. The room was stuffy, but we couldn't open our window because it opened on a smoker's hallway. Free breakfast at the adjoining Lariat restaurant was bland, we served ourselves water from an open bar area, and had to ask for our toast order which never came (and came incorrectly when it did). Either the cook staff was slow or the waitress didn't manage orders well, resulting in a sulky waitress who was rude to all the customers and long wait times. Price too high for facilities.

Review 16:The hotel staff was friendly and welcoming. It was nice to have a free breakfast for reserving via the internet. Bed linens were updated. Dedicated desk with outlets was convenient.

Review 17:Facilities are old and in need of updating. The rooms look a little shabby. The bathtub knobs didn't work well. We stayed in two different rooms on different nights and the double queen was more convenient than the single queen due to the extra sink and space.

Review 18:Hotel was convenient for combination of business and leisure we were there for. Basic hotel with a free breakfast for internet bookers. The breakfast was good. The hotel adequate, the staff seemed attentive. The hotel was quiet.

Review 19:The "non-smoking" room was among all the smoking rooms and stank of smoke when I opened the door. They gave me another, nicer room. They need to work on this! Could not get the wifi to work.

Review 20:To their credit they fixed the smokey room problem by giving me another room. Luckily one was available. Don't pay until you check the room!

Review 21:Nice large room with excellent bed. Exceptional quiet due to outside glass wall. Not impressed with the dinner service and food, however beaky was great and the morning staff very friendly. Will return without hesitation.

Review 22:The room was extremely over priced for a pretty sub par room. The hotel was also crawling with cops when we arrived because the staff had reported a visitor smoking pot in their room. It was rather uncomfortable.

Review 23:The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 24:We booked a non-smoking room online, but were given a smoking room upon arrival, because there were no other rooms available. The lobby was nice and the exterior was fine, but our room had some major issues. There were numerous holes in the walls, two bugs discovered, and the bathtub was dirty (not so much due to uncleanliness, but it very much needed an upgrade). Sorry but the room was one of the worst we have ever experienced :(

Review 25:The staff was nice, and the breakfast was excellent.

Review 26:Hotel and adjacent cafe are properties almost beyond repair. Horrible hotel faculty.

Review 27:Badly damaged, worn out pitiful facility that should be demolished. Filthy and discussing facility that hard working housekeepers cannot maintain. Avoid by going to any other hotel in Gillette that has other good hotels.

Review 28:The room was not very clean and had a strong odor. My breakfast was cold hash browns and under cooked eggs with toast and husband's was under cooked pancakes & eggs

Review 29:nothing

Review 30:There was a nasty water leak mark on the ceiling. Some strange dealings going on near the pool area rooms. Our children didn't feel well and it cost to take out FREE breakfast.

Review 31:I was glad that our room was near the lobby area

Review 32:Smoking room needs renovated, tears in wall paper, very outdated. Bugs in bathroom. Had to take smoking room instead of non due to availability.

Review 33:Location is good. Stayed in same hotel two weeks prior and had no issues. Was very disappointed the second time.

Review 34:The whole place smells like smoke. Very dated facility - not sure how it rated 3 stars. The room was as clean as a maid could make it, but the smoke smell is so prevalent and the facilities so dated that it is very unpleasant. TheThe neighborhood is a bit questionable.

Review 35:Friendly staff, good breakfast

Review 36:The place stinks like old. screwed up our reservations, fixed them. New room had pee on toilet seat mold in bowl on water line and above. hair all over bathroom floor and coffee maker had a old pod in it

Review 37:We just needed to spend one night and-absolutly everything was good -polite personel - clear room, equiped with everything you need - hot breakfast - perfect wi-fi

Review 38:cafe was not open 24 hrs. Only open 24 hrs on weekend. Location seemed "iffy".

Review 39:Room was surprisinglysclean and pleasant. Exterior appearance very deceptive.

Review 40:pillows were so awful! Bed wasn't very good either. The AC was loud all night, tried to shut it off, whatever it was still loud.

Review 41:We had asked for a main floor room and there was none available, she worked it out for us so we got main floor. So appreciated her for that! We had oxygen, cpap machine plus luggage! Thank you!

Review 42:We booked this based on OK reviews on this site and wanting to spend less, as we were just going to sleep here and move on ...however the whole property smells so badly of smoke (even the non-smoking rooms) we wished we had spent a bit more. When I sat on the bed in the first room we were given, the entire bed came off the floor on the other side! We were given another room, but when I checked out they didn't seem to know we had switched rooms, nor made a report of the broken bed.

Review 43:The rooms were clean but do need updates in the bathroom and a few other upgrades. We were in a non-smoking room but at 3 o'clock in the morning someone was smoking in the hall in front of our room. The lobby also smelled pretty strong of cigarettes.

Review 44:The location was perfect

Review 45:Some people had parked their car right in front of the hotel lobby and left the engine on...awful smell of carbon monoxide!! There were so many empty parking around.

Review 46:(1) Friendly & helpful staff esp. Ms Damara who checked us in. (2) Breakfast - Good selection and very generous portion.

Review 47:The linens had an unpleasant smell (chemical) and the entrance to the rooms had been enclosed inside of glass partitions which resulted in the smoke from cigarettes to be extremely strong and when you open the door to your rooms that same odor entered the room.

Review 48:Didn't particularly like the stairs up to our room.

Review 49:We really enjoyed the friendliness of the staff! The low rates were also very much appreciated.

Review 50:No complaints.

Review 51:The bed and room in general were very comfortable. The lobby was nicer than expected. They could use new carpets and such but overall I had a great experience! A great value!

Review 52:We loved all the user-friendly amenities! We visit Gillette a few times a year. This is the first time we stayed at the National 9. It is our go-to motel from now on.

Review 53:restaurant was FULL OF CIGARETTE SMOKE and many people were continued to smoke and nothing was curtailing the cloud that was permeating the restaurant.

Review 54:was happy to get a full breakfast as part of the price of accomodation

Review 55:Once a smoking room always a smoking room. I know they have worked hard to get rid of the odor--but it still lingers.

Review 56:Value for the room was good--location was easy to find, ample parking close to room so didn't have to pack luggage a long ways. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 57:The staff us very friendly. The café is more than excellent--home made meals, good service. They have a nice lounge if you want a beverage in the evening. Parking is ample.

Review 58:No breakfast, because the restaurant was closed (Thanksgiving). The positive comments about the breakfast was one of the reasons we stayed there. No compensation/price reduction.

Review 59:Comfortable and clean

Review 60:Prevalent tobacco smoke throughout common areas. Rough linens & lumpy pillows.

Review 61:Close to laundromat. Good collection of taxidermy in lobby: elk, deer, panthers. High capacity ice machine, great for packing dead animals & fleshy parts.

Review 62:One if the reasons I continue to stay at this motel is the staff are always friendly. Other reasons is access to I-90 and and the price is reasonable.

Review 63:No microwave or coffee maker and soap dispenser was empty, but there was coffee in the lobby.

Review 64:It was quiet, clean and the covered walkway made it comfortable. A good motel for the money.

Review 65:The internet was not good at all as it kept going out, but the staff said that there was a bad storm, so I'm sure there would have been no problem if the weather would have cooperated.

Review 66:The couch In the room was awesome, because we don't like to lay in bed and watch tv, but we did sit on the couch and watch a movie. We also loved the restaurant. ....very good food with great people. Also the free breakfast was a great bonus. Thanks for a great stay...will most definitely stay with you again if one available!

Review 67:First, the location might be right off the highway, but it's also right across the street from an active and loud train track. The parking area shares with a bar so traffic in and out all night. Construction or re-paving going on, inconvenient to park.Second, the tiny restaurant and bar it is connected to both allow smoking inside the facilities so I left the next day with my clothes and hair smelling like an ashtray because it has poor ventilation. The restaurant for breakfast was unappetizing and the staff very unfriendly and poorly trained. I hope the chef wasn't smoking when he made our food. The waitress checked her cell phone walking around tables.Third, our room-105-had an unpleasant cherry like perfume smell right away. The room has two sinks, the one in the bathroom was clogged when we got there, but decided to just use the other one. Sometime during the night the clogged one filled up with sewer water and then filled both, so we breathed methane type gas all night. It literally smelled like swampy poop throughout our entire room. We woke up with headaches and had to switch rooms to be able to brush our teeth and do regular morning stuff. The gal at the front counter said it was also like that in 107. When we checked out I walked by both rooms and they were steam cleaning in there with a shampoo that smelled heavily of cherry... Must be a regular occurrence.Fourth, the shower is a death trap. The faucet handles spin so you can easily get burnt by hot water. The ceiling tiles are an inappropriate material for a shower as they are absorbing too much water and getting soggy and moldy looking. The tub is very slippery.Fifth, since we had to change rooms and avoid being maimed or dying in the shower, it took us a few minutes after the checkout time of 11:00 to actually be ready to go. Our child was patiently watching tv while waiting and the cable shut off promptly at 11:00... I mean, really?Never have I ever been at a hotel quite this bad overall.

Review 68:The.... The ... Nope, can't think of anything we liked about this place.

Review 69:It was not all that clean. Air conditioner didn't work well, was to humid in room. For sure an outdated place but they did try.

Review 70:That it allowed our 4 dogs to be with us. The location was good. The front desk lady was very kind and helpful.

Review 71:The smell and condition of the whole establishment. Why would you have smoking rooms next to no smoking rooms? The reek of the smoke permeated all the rooms. We had asked to move and was accommodated from a king room to a queen, no decrease in rate though.

Review 72:The employee that assisted us in changing rooms.

Review 73:My non-smoking room reeked of smoke. The ceiling in the bathroom was falling in.The decor was so old and outdated it was not attractive. Doors and door jams badly scuffed and in need of a paint job. Actually the place was a dump. My "free" breakfast was held in a smoke filled rest. next door. Not pleasant at all. I couldn't wait to get out of there .

Review 74:It had a refrigerator. The bed seemed clean.

Review 75:The bathrooms were old, the tile falling off, the bathtub didn't have a plug. Everything smelled like cigarette smoke and I had to wash everything when I got home. No smoking rooms, what a joke. However, it was a truck stop motel and my dad would have loved it.

Review 76:I liked the staff. They were helpful and friendly. Check-in was no problem. I enjoyed the food but not the cigarette smoke.

Review 77:The staff was very friendly and courteous. We checked in very late after 1am and the front desk personnel was waiting for us to arrive and very nice and informative. The free hot breakfast was in the attached restaurant and was nice with many choices. Overall exactly what we needed for just an overnight stopping spot on our road trip.

Review 78:hotel very dated furnishings require update

Review 79:restaurant is attached to hotel. bacon and eggs and other choices were provided free with room. the waitress was awesome. friendly staff at hotel. room was clean.

Review 80:The room smelled a bit like cigarettes, probably it used to be a smoking room before and with the carpet floor (in the whole place) the smell does not get out. The worst place is the restaurant. People smoke there. After having (free) breakfast there, we had to shower again and change our clothes. That is really disgusting for non-smokers and a big minus.

Review 81:Free parking, free wifi, beautiful lobby, a/c not so noisy, fridge and microwave (both older, but ok) in room.

Review 82:There was sort of an old smokey air about the entire place, but not horrid. You noticed it, but didn't choke on it.

Review 83:The staff was very friendly and efficient. The room was comfortable. They gave us a breakfast voucher to go to the cafe next to them (attached to the hotel) and breakfast was delicious. We had also eaten supper there, at the recommendation of the clerk, and that was also good.

Review 84:Corridors dirty Ice machine compressor in corridor- very noisy Smokers in breakfast room- very unpleasant

Review 85:Non-smoking room in a place that had lots of smokers Room at back away from road breakfast available quite good

Review 86:The air conditioning didn't work very well, so it was way too warm in there for most of the night. One of the lights didn't work. Our room smelled like smoke, even though it was a non smoking room. The bed wasn't too comfortable, either. It also needs a lot of updating. The bathroom floor and fixtures were cracked and discolored.

Review 87:The staff was very friendly. The room had a mini fridge and a microwave in it.

Review 88:The rooms are slightly dated, but clean. There is room for improvement with the decor, especially for the cost of the room.

Review 89:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The computer there was broke and I needed to print an important document so the manager allowed me to email to her and she printed it for me. The cafe next door was down to earth and had a very tasty breakfast which was included in our room price. The lobby is warm and inviting.

Review 90:It's completely non-smoking now but you can definitely tell that's not always been the case. Our first room absolutely reeked of stale cigarette smoke and was obviously a smoking room at one time. We switched rooms and new room was much better.

Review 91:Sandy was super nice and went out of her way to accommodate our request to switch rooms. The vouchers for a real breakfast at the cafe next door was a nice touch.

Review 92:Smelled so bad of smoke everywhere. When we got to our room there was toilet paper in the toilet that had not been flushed. Air rattled when you turned it on.

Review 93:The central ventilation and cooling system did not keep up with the warm temperatures outside. We happened to bring a fan along with us on our trip and it was a good thing because if we didn't have it our room would have been almost unbearably too stuffy. Also, the ice machine down the hall was so LOUD it was hard to talk in the hallway.

Review 94:The front desk staff was fantastic even though they were understaffed. I felt appreciated as a guest and they made us feel so very welcome! Sandy, especially understands customer service to a weary traveler!

Review 95:Smoking in the restaurant!! Bathroom was a bit outdated, but functional

Review 96:Our room was at the back so away from the railroad Good size room Comfortable bed Cooked breakfast included

Review 97:The smell of cigarette smoke was everywhere. We booked a non smoking room and as soon as the air conditioner was turned on it sucked the smell right into the room.

Review 98:The room itself was comfortable

Review 99:The free breakfast was not very good. The restaurant was understaffed. Customers were having to bus their tables and some actually got up to get their own coffee or silverware. Food was only warm and toast was so dried out that we couldn't eat it. Also, people were smoking at the counter and the whole place smelled like stale cigarette smoke.

Review 100:It was quiet--no noise from above or from outside.

Review 101:The pillows were horrible - small and about 2" thick! Even though a non-smoking room, it smelled as if someone had smoked in the room at some point. Actually the whole hotel smelled of stale smoke. Windows would not open, so there was no ventilation. Mattress was sagging. There's really nothing about this place to recommend.

Review 102:The carpet in the hallway needs replaced, it has a few holes in it and makes I uneven when walking. We couldn't eat in the restaurant due to over whelming smell of smoke.

Review 103:The clerk was more than willing to accommodate our request for a first floor room due to my husband's health issues. It was quiet and the beds were comfortable.

Review 104:Staff friendly & helpful at any given time, really appreciated the fact that you could get great food and never have to leave the location

Review 105:Staff is friendly and helpful!

Review 106:Needs updating

Review 107:It's dated, but bed are comfortable and it was clean. Breakfast was good.overall a good value

Review 108:Situated in a weird property layout.

Review 109:Close to food and shopping options.

Review 110:The room was dirty and smelled like a smoking room...even though they stated it was not.

Review 111:Staff was friendly

Review 112:next to train tracks, facility is a little shopworn

Review 113:room was clean

Review 114:Clean, comfortable, friendly & helpful staff, great breakfast

Review 115:The water at both the hotel and restaurant tasted terrible. Also the people talking outside the room at 2 am was quite irritating.

Review 116:Value for money, comfortable, and good restaurant on location

Review 117:Old wall paper in room. Out of date bathroom.

Review 118:The room was not cleaned everyday.

Review 119:Breakfast is great. Three choices and good food.

Review 120:Not worth $85

Review 121:Dirty old hotel. Smelled like smoke. Who allows smoking in a building in this day and age?

Review 122:good except wyfi was poor in this room. has been good in all rooms we had before

Review 123:Nothing comes to mind.

Review 124:Excellent breakfast at adjoining restaurant. Staff dealt with their room allocation error professionally and without issue.

Review 125:Breakfast, slow staff telling useless things to waste time, whole building smells like smoke, booking online was 20 dollars more expensive

Review 126:Liked everything at hotel

Review 127:Location to highway.
