Reviews for Hotel Ambrosia
Review 1:This was my second stay at The Ambrosia and I will certainly book tostay their on my next visit. Everyone at the hotel will go out of theirway to be helpful and welcoming, plus the rooms are very comfortable.
Review 2:Conveniently positioned in a quiet street just off the central square, we couldn't have asked more from the hotel. Friendly staff, clean room, good breakfast and good value for money.
Review 3:The hotel was very well situated within easy reach of the main square and Menin Gate. The choice at breakfast was excellent and you could have bacon and eggs cooked to order. Could not fault anything really although parking can be a bit of a problem in Ypres, we overcame this by parking our car in the free parking outside of the main city wall on Saturday as we were booked on a tour which took up most of the day. Overall a good location, friendly staff and we would certainly stay at this hotel again.
Review 4:Great location. Parking outside. Super family room.spotlessly clean and warm.Owners and staff were very welcoming.breakfast was super with hot food available cooked fresh. Will definitely stay again.
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:The staff were friendly, informative and made every effort to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Vincent and Iwona went the extra mile and if ever I visit Ieper again I will stay at Ambrosia, very well done team!
Review 7:Walls seemed a bit thin? But that wouldn't deter me from staying again. (Old building, unrealistic to expect hi-tech sound-proofing.)
Review 8:The staff was especially pleasant. Excellent location, walkable from train station and to central part of town. On site bike rental was a huge plus. Room was tidy and comfortable, very fairly priced.
Review 9:A very good place to stay in Ieper (Ypres). The location is spot on, the staff are very helpful and the room is very clean and comfortable, what else could you ask for?
Review 10:nothing
Review 11:This is a fantastic family run hotel with a lovely homely athmosphere. Vincent was so helpful to us, he arranged a guide to bring to areas that were not on the prescribed tours. The breakfast was amazing every morning, fresh bread, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit and lots more. (gluten free bread and cereal were provided for my dad) The location and cleanliness of the hotel was superb. I stayed here for 3 nights with my parents, this hotel added to our wonderful experience in Ypres. Great value for money too!
Review 12:complete value for money nothing negative about the stay
Review 13:Small, clean and very friendly staff. Vincent couldn't do enough for the guests and he cooks a great bacon and eggs. Excellent value for money and I and my colleagues heartily recommend this as a base for Ypres
Review 14:Owners helpful friendly manner.location for purpose of trip to see ww1 sights. Advice given by owner. Quietness. Excellent breakfasts. All for very good price.
Review 15:Highly recomended family run hotel with an excellent location only two minutes walking from Grote Markt.Very good breakfast.Free coffe and a vending machine for soft drinks, beer and wine in the lobby. You can rent a bike and buy a special map for touring the World war 1 sites.Helpfull staff.Very clean.Free wi fi.
Review 16:Centrally located for easy access to the Menin Gate. Hotel proprietor was very helpful and knowledgable. Breakfast cooked to order and a good selection.
Review 17:Very convenient location to the centre of Ypres city and ideal for sightseeing. Vincent gave us a warm welcome and gave us excellent advice on visiting WW1 sites and monuments etc.
Review 18:The staff was polite, courteous and informed me about what was happening in the city. While I was there for only one night, its the small things and the positive mannerism that really sets the tone for a good nights rest. Despite the fact that my first credit card was not working Iwona did not change her attitude and behave with skepticism (which is what happens when you land up in a city and your credit card acts up). All the while she explained to me what to do and where to eat. Breakfast was also a great experience.
Review 19:I'd have liked a bit more storage in the room, there was only a wardrobe and a couple of other shelves. Some drawers wouldbhave been nice.
Review 20:Wonderful location. Easy to find, within walking distance of everything we wanted in the centre. Comfy beds, friendly staff, great breakfasts.
Review 21:Fantastic accommodation. Our host's were very friendly and welcomed us with such kindness. The Ambrosia is extremely clean and couldn't be faulted. Ali and friends
Review 22:The staff that we met were all helpful, friendly and informative. The hotel was spotlessly clean, tidy and well decorated. For breakfast there was an excellent choice of cereals bread, rolls, jams, cheeses and ham in addition to the option of having bacon and egg cooked freshly to order. As this was included in the room price this is very much a bonus.
Review 23:nothing.
Review 24:Friendly professional owner operators.Excellent breakfast prepared personally by the lady de charge. Cold drink vending machine and coffee maker on the very comfortable lobby. Attic/roof top room with a street view. The property is very well maintained and the bed was good!!
Review 25:Very small breakfast area, so we had to wait
Review 26:Excellent location, lovely staff, spoke good English which was really helpful,I don't think I could have found fault with the room if I tried, I will absolutely book this hotel again
Review 27:Our room was very small for two people.
Review 28:Very convenient location, extremely clean, charming staff and very good value for money. Excellent breakfast. A small hotel but lots of thought has gone in to making guests comfortable.
Review 29:The most awesome couple run this place and can't do enough to help in every way! The assistant Pebbles was brilliant also. We got bikes and cycled the peace route. Awesome
Review 30:I had a requested a double room on a higher level which it was however it was directly above the breakfast room and kitchen and guests could be heard clearly in conversation from 7.30 having breakfast. Also the smell of anyone having eggs and bacon infiltrated my room even with the windows shut and was overpowering. I'm the first to enjoy eggs and bacon but prefer to savour the taste and aroma in the breakfast area. So as a tip to others, avoid Room 14 if that issue would bother them.
Review 31:Location in a quiet area of the city. Very pleasant staff and above standard for its 2 star rating.
Review 32:That I had to leave
Review 33:Nice, quiet location with extremely friendly staff. Explained everything in detail - places to go things to see etc. Couldn't have been friendlier if they had tried!
Review 34:No elevator so not good for people who find stairs difficult.
Review 35:Wonderful helpful staff. Breakfast was very good and included in the price. Many choices for breakfast. Staff always restocked the food. Location within 5 minute walking distance to Menin Gate and old city center.
Review 36:Very friendly and particularly helpful staff. Clean, well kept property in an ideal central location meating that you can nip back and for ward as often as you like. I was anxious about the parking but reasonably priced street parking is available outside the hotel.
Review 37:Vincent and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Comfortable rooms and good breakfast included in the price. Great location only a few minutes walk from the town centre and Menin Gate.
Review 38:There is nothing to dislike
Review 39:Excellent hotel run by a very friendly family and perfectly placed for the centre of Ypres. Good choice of breakfast including eggs and bacon. Very handy coffee, hot chocolate, and drinks machine in reception. Would highly recommend
Review 40:Very welcoming on arrival (we were early!) Very helpful / informative staff re where to visit and when. Room spacious, comfortable and well equipped
Review 41:Would be nice to have tea/ coffee facilities in room but there is that option in the reception.
Review 42:Great place. Good location and friendly staff. Pebbles was very friendly Great TV channels too
Review 43:No tea/coffee making facilities in room though machine in reception at 1€ per cup.
Review 44:Quiet location but close to centre. Very friendly and helpful owners/staff. Immaculately clean. Excellent wifi connection. Fantastic breakfasts.
Review 45:Nothing went wrong at all.
Review 46:The staff: Vincent, Ivona and Pebbles were all excellent and lovely people too. Nothing was too much trouble. Lovely attitude, lovely atmosphere, lovely people.
Review 47:Very helpful and friendly staff. Very good breakfast and some really nice touches, such as good beer available from machine in foyer, free tea and coffee during quiet hours. Good local map for a few euros. Very comfortable stay. Thank you.
Review 48:The owners Vincent and his wife did everything to make us welcome and our stay comfortable. Breakfast of bacon and eggs, fruit and cereal was excellent. We thoroughly recommend this hotel walking distance to restaurants, shops and Menin Gate.
Review 49:If you are not familiar with Ypres, the hotel isn't the easiest to find when you arrive due to the one way system - but we eventually discovered that it is clearly signposted from the Groet Markt.
Review 50:Good location for visiting Ypres Walking distance of free parking Usually space nearby for short-term parking Family atmosphere Useful information provided before arrival Exceptionally helpful manager - thankyou!
Review 51:Good location, great breakfast, comfortable lounge for guests to relax and perhaps enjoy a cup of tea or latte from the coffee machine or a glass of wine or beer from the vending machine.
Review 52:Cramped beds. Headroom in bedroom (21). Impression that room had been crammed into a very small space. The feeling that aircon will be a necessity on warm summer nights.
Review 53:The breakfast (good bacon and eggs) - but the dining room is pretty cramped. Free wi-fi. Great location for visiting the battlefields and for access to restaurants and other facilities in Ypres.
Review 54:The location is excellent and only a few minute walk to the Menin Gate. The small hotel is friendly and the staff were happy to help with directions and advice about what sights to see.
Review 55:Located on a corner and had the occasional rowdy car. Small fridge in the room would have been handy but there is a drinks vending machine in the foyer.
Review 56:Well set up for travellers including bicycle hire.
Review 57:The manager and his wife were welcoming and ready to help with anything I asked. The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. A good choice of breakfast and the hotel was only a few minutes from main square.
Review 58:No lift! We were placed on the ground floor, so that didn't affect our stay but could be a drawback. Also could have used a small chest of drawers.
Review 59:Very convivial hosts who were also extremely pleasant and helpful. I would certainly recommend them and their hotel to everyone.
Review 60:Like other Hotels in Ypres, the price of the Ambrosia has increased dramatically over the last 2 years. In the past it was cheap and cheerful. Now it is relatively expensive and needs a complete refurbishment to justify the price.
Review 61:Good staff. Good location
Review 62:We had the attic room as there were three of us. The WiFi was a bit week and parking is not always free depending on time of day and if you can find a spot nearby on the street.
Review 63:Central location. Nice and pleasant staff. Great breakfast.
Review 64:if i had to make a down note it would only be no tea/coffee making facilities in the room but there was drinks available in reception 24hrs
Review 65:staff the comfort cleanliness everything was as good as you expect
Review 66:I had a single room which was very small. It was ok for one night but would not like to spend many nights in the room.
Review 67:Breakfast was excellent - and the staff were excellent too
Review 68:Had to climb stairs, so no good for wheelchair users. However, we knew this before we arrived.
Review 69:Vincent and his wife couldn't have been more helpful.
Review 70:Front door locked by 8pm so check in before going to Menin Gate. Felt that staff were rushed to do cleaning, but we're friendly. Room not ready till after 2pm
Review 71:Location is good, close to town square and restaurants, walking distance to Menin gate. Room was pretty good, modern, clean. Ypres itself is fantastic. Very helpful with parking.
Review 72:My single room was quite small and up two fights of stairs but nonetheless perfectly serviceable. The smell of Fried Bacon was quite noticeable from the kitchen in the morning.
Review 73:The Hotel is well kept. Attention to details and service. Vincent's map of the WW1 battlefields and routes is better than that of the tourist office.
Review 74:Bathroom was a little cramped and the stairs are a bit of challenge but all in all a lovely place to stay.
Review 75:Close to everything, especially the town centre and the menin gate. Breakfast was ample. Continental or cooked to order. Best breakfast so far in our 3 weeks of travelling.
Review 76:A very short walk to the Menin gate and centre of town with great choice of restaurants. Rooms fairly basic but comfortable. Great freshly cooked breakfast.
Review 77:It was the perfect hotel for us as we were only there for a night to attend the "Last Post " at the Menen Gate. Other than some minor Wifi problems it met all our needs and was 5 star in our opinion.
Review 78:Being just off the Old Town Square and an easy walk from the station or the town shuttle bus, the location was perfect! Peebles was a charming host, brekky was great and my room was a picture with an illuminated church spire at night!
Review 79:Hotel was very clean and close to the centre of town. The breakfast was excellent and the staff very friendly. Free wifi was also superb. Would definitely stay again.
Review 80:Nothing. It was excellent.
Review 81:The welcome from the exceptionally helpful staff at reception. Gave really good unprompted advice about what to do an see in the area. They clearly explained all the facilities at the hotel. The breakfast was simple but perfect and cooked fresh for each guest. The room we stayed in was large with a comfortable bed and at a nice temperature. It was lovely to stay at a place where you can tell the people that work there really care about the service they provide. We had just come from a stay in Ghent a 4* hotel, an extremely well run soulless place to stay. If there was a chain of hotels run like the Ambrosia I would use them all the time.
Review 82:Was a single room so wasn't expecting too much, but it was very small and it was only a single bed.
Review 83:Good location, only a 5 min walk to the Menin Gate. Really good breakfast included.
Review 84:The stay was good, possibly marred by no tea or coffee making facilities in room, available in the lobby - payable.
Review 85:The proprietor was a local boy and extremely knowledgeable of the area and very helpful. He also supplies a very good map (3 euros) which highlights all the important sights and landmarks.Parking outside the hotel is good, free 6pm/9am after 1 euro per hour. .
Review 86:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfasts every morning as well as a cold buffet. The location allowed a 2 minute walk into the Market Square and 5 minutes from Menin Gate.
Review 87:I had to go home!
Review 88:Having moved to Canada I havent been back here for 5 years but it was the only place i Wanted to go to having experienced it many years ago. I brought my new wife here and had a wonderfull nights accomodation.
Review 89:Nothing.
Review 90:Very helpful and friendly owners & staff, hot fresh breakfast, easy parking right outside, close to the centre, quiet, great value for money hotel.
Review 91:nothing negative to say at all.
Review 92:breakfasts were great.good free wifi. bicycle rental was a plus. very central. lovely hosts. i would certainly recommend it & would stay here again without hesitation.
Review 93:There was nothing not to like, I only stayed the 1 night wished I had booked longer. So much to see and do in the area, the hotel was well placed near centre of town.
Review 94:Location very good within easy reach of Menin Gate, Museums, cathedral, and rail station. Very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Free coffee, tea, hot choc machine 24 hrs. Well maintained.
Review 95:Unable to fault anything, will try and book again on our next visit to Ypres.
Review 96:Cleanliness and breakfast excellent, plus access to hot drinks at all times.
Review 97:A lovely friendly hotel in a perfect position just a short distance from the main square. Well sized family room, very clean with comfortable beds. Great facilities for making hot drinks and fast wifi. Lovely buffet style breakfast with cooked available. Excellent local knowledge.
Review 98:Nothing, it was brilliant and I will return again .
Review 99:Vincent the owner is so accommodating and his knowledge of the local area was great, to the point we altered our itinerary and it was fantastic. Excellent location and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 100:The owners and other staff were friendly and helpful. The owner in particular is very knowledgeable and took the time to give my brother and me information about the town.
Review 101:The back staircase was a bit rickety..that's all I can possibly think of!
Review 102:Such friendly people and a great breakfast. With this and an ideal location we have already booked to go there again.
Review 103:Asked for a double room, placed in a family room (1 double & 2 singles) which was not wanted or expected.
Review 104:Friendly and helpful owners, clean with an excellent breakfast. Very good location.
Review 105:At times it was quite cold in the room, despite turning the heating on higher.
Review 106:The room was comfortable and the breakfasts had excellent choice on offer. The hotel is within easy access to the centre of Ypres, and the plentiful parking nearby makes it easy to get out of the city to the attractions nearby. The owner was friendly and gave us good tips of things to do.
Review 107:There is NO LIFT and the stairs are very steep. We were placed in the loft room so be aware of this. There was also no staff to assist with heavy bags. Secondly, the service was appalling. Ypres, we were told on arrival by the lady at the front desk, did not have any taxis, yet later in the evening we were toldb y the gentleman on duty that taxis were indeed available. However, when we asked for a taxi to be called for us on the morning of our departure, there was a crisis as a taxi has to be pre-booked. At no stage were we ever informed of this. The owner of the hotel was still in be and expected me to converse with him over the phone. Would i stay there again - definitely not!
Review 108:Location was reasonable and the beds comfortable. The breakfast was good.
Review 109:Just remember old buildings = steep stairs. Not complaining. Just a fact of life
Review 110:Friendly staff Efficient service excellent room, & quiet Excellent breakfast -AND Gluten free toast Fabulous location. Walking distance to restaurants, museums & Menin Gate.
Review 111:This hotel is just perfect. Excellent location a stroll away from the centre of Ypres. The bedrooms were a good size the bathroom small but perfectly formed. The beds were comfortable and there is tea and coffee available in the foyer 24/7. The breakfast choice was excellent, continental or cooked to order and beautiful. Staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. Great value for money.
Review 112:Leaving on a cold morning.
Review 113:The ambience was relaxed and welcoming; the owners friendly, helpful and informative; the room clean, cozy and comfortable; the breakfast freshly cooked and diverse; the location central; and the wifi fast and reliable. My 18 year old granddaughter voted this the best hotel she has stayed in.
Review 114:Not over impressed with local restaurants - mostly steaks or pizzas - nothing too traditional on any menus we saw.
Review 115:Centrally placed. Owners both very welcoming and we had a ground floor as requested. All Good. Breakfast also excellent.
Review 116:Located close to centre of town and Menin Gate. Vegemite available for breakfast. Overnight parking outside hotel and longer term free parking a short walk away. Ground floor accommodation made luggage handling easy.
Review 117:The welcome by Vincent he fully explained to us Ypres and what it had to offer and where to eat. Great wifi a nice clean room and a super breakfast. I will recommend this to family and friends and I will stay there for my next visit.
