Reviews for Hotel Royal Astrid
Review 1:Extra massage was ordered. But for example the massage table is not a professional massage table .. Personal recognized this problem but said that hotel management did not have budget for this. But for 60€ for 55 min one expects proper material.
Review 2:Perfect location
Review 3:Fantastic Breakfast. Staff were very friendly and let us check in at 2am after a late flight into ostende from Spain! Great place to crash after a long night
Review 4:The receptionist was kinda rude and not nice at all - annoyed by the job. Parking is either about 20 EUR per night or pablic cheaper but hard to find the place
Review 5:Very good location - beach just accross one street, very good breakfasts, comfortable bed
Review 6:The room is very basic for a 3 star and it needs a make over. Personnel is not very friendly The hotel in general needs refreshing
Review 7:Breakfast is great Wifi is very good as well Very well situated
Review 8:The hallways are tired and little smelly. Overall the hotel needs a touch up. Parking is impossible and checkout was 10am !!
Review 9:The location is pretty good. Breakfast was nice but extremely busy. Cheap!
Review 10:Check in staff were not very welcoming, but that's all really. Not unpleasant, just a bit miserable.
Review 11:Most comfortable bed ever.Refurbished rooms since our last stay.Swimming pool excellent open all day from 9am til 10pm and free for guests.Short stroll into centre for food and drink.
Review 12:Although we were lucky to find a parking right in front of the hotel it would make it better to have easy access to the parking. Parking was free from 7pm - 8 am (if I'm not mistaken). We had to get up a few times with the noise of the cars and dogs from other rooms.
Review 13:Location was right beside the tram station and by the beach. Swimming pool and Jacuzzi were plus. Also with extra charge you could enjoy the sauna (they offer special deal after 7 pm) Wifi connection was good. Check in/out process was easy and fast. Breakfast was nicely prepared, buffet style served till 10am. When we arrived the room was clean and free of any odor. The bed was solid and comfortable as well. What it comes with for the price you pay is amazing.
Review 14:.
Review 16:The room was dirty and under renovation?! The furnitures are old and rugged from the worst kind. It was empty and sad. The only good thing, that the sea is close. It was a standard room.
Review 17:That we asked to clean the room in the morning while we were walking the dogs and they didn't! Because of this they only cleaned our room twice in a week staying!!! The parking in front of the door we were never sure of a place. The noise of the tram!
Review 18:We liked that we could go with the 2 dogs well behaved dogs.
Review 19:Staff were very un-helpful. Room was appalling, electrics cables coming out of the walls, dirty rooms, dangerous bathroom floors, and overall terribly poor.
Review 20:Breakfast is very poor : coffee like water , fruit juices also diluted , bread is not fresh but was most probably frozen and then put in the oven , no taste , structure is like powder, worst bread we ever had. On the contrary , the eggs are excellent. The breakfast room was extremely crowded wich makes it unpleasent to behave. If you leave the window of the bedroom open, you wake up at about 5 am by the tramway. The bathroom is a bit outdated but technically everything works.
Review 21:The size of the room (really big). Quiet at night.
Review 22:No on-site parking but street parking available as long as you are out by 9 am.
Review 23:Good beach but Ostend a bit anonymous. OK but hotel adequate, even good, but a bit utilitarian
Review 24:Confusion over booking - but this was resolved and apologised for. Pillows not to my choice.
Review 25:Good superior room - nice clean bathroom - good to have a balcony. Very good breakfast if a bit chaotic and busy, interesting spa/wellness area with different sections. Pleasant staff - excellent location
Review 26:The room needed air conditioning. Had to leave the window open and the noise outside kept me up.
Review 27:Staff was amazing! Breakfast was excellent. Rooms was nice and big with a lovely bathroom.
Review 28:The WiFi was very bad; the mattress much too soft so that you almost rolled out of bed; the room was very austere (almost a prison cell); the little table was shabby and wobbly; no airco so the room was pretty hot.
Review 29:Breakfast was good and there was a great choice; the location is good, next to the library, near the beach and close to the centre of town.
Review 30:Not a major issue, but could do with climate control in the rooms.
Review 31:Room was clean and a good size, and staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was self service which worked well for the number of guests staying. There was a good selection and plenty of it.
Review 32:Internet connection was very weak, not enough to download the webpage.
Review 33:We liked breakfast, the location. Indeed not far from the tram station and the beach. There were many mature couples. So if you are over 60 you won't feel alone there.
Review 34:Wasn't a problem for us but it could be embarrassing for the shy, the toilet door is glass facing the bedroom. Our room faced the back and had no balcony
Review 35:Great breakfast catered for all, including bacon, eggs and beans with toast etc. The outside smoking area at the back is right next to the tram line and the beach is across the road a 2 minute stroll to the promenade
Review 36:There was no Air Conditioning in the rooms and it was very hot when we stayed there which made a nights uncomfortable.
Review 37:Good Location a couple of mins walk away from the beach, restaurants and bars. We drove from the UK and the parking in the road outside the hotel was cheap, although u could only pay for parking for up to 3hrs.
Review 38:We were on the first floor and the wifi connection was very weak .
Review 39:Good location of the hotel .About 50 metres from the beach , the centrum is only 10 - 15 mins walk .The coast tram station is found at the back of the hotel . Free acess to pool .
Review 40:The windows opened all the way i think it's very very dangerous. 3rd floor and the large window swung all the way round could knock you over and out of the window berry dangerous
Review 41:A lovely hotel near the beach. People are very welcoming helpful. The rooms are large and comfortable clean. I really enjoyed my stay and will be going back again
Review 42:the spa was a let down, changing area small and wet and very slippery no tea or coffee facilities in the rooms. dangerous windows when open? no net curtains so had to keep curtains closed or people at tram stop looking in. dogs in the rooms
Review 43:Good selection for breakfast, the free use of the pool
Review 44:Wifi was unusable during the whole stay, regardless of the signal quality. The interior of our bathroom was pretty worn off.
Review 45:The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is not far from the beach. Wifi access is WEP-encrypted - better than not encrypted at all. The breakfast offered a wide choice.
Review 46:The bedroom was not like what I saw online, I was somewhat disappointed. The breakfast was not great and the time from and to for breakfast is too early (though I think that's most hotel policy)
Review 47:I liked the free Wifi, close location to beach, friendly atmosphere and easy to get to and from places.
Review 48:Room very basic, not enough staff, 45 minutes to check out due to lack of staff. Problem with TV and told to wait until next day!
Review 49:Room was clean and that is all that can be said.
Review 50:Construction noise in hotel 4th floor above my ahead -morning noise was not enjoyable and woke me up. Also for the Spa you have to be naked. I dont appreciate that rule so we just went to the jacuzzi which had normal rules.
Review 51:jacuzi and room comfort
Review 52:Requested a low floor due to not being able to use lifts and bad knee. Got put on 4th floor. Plenty rooms on booking. Also arrived early and asked for low floor. Knee played up all weekend.
Review 53:Location, swimming pool, breakfast.
Review 54:We explicitly asked for a double bed and not two twins (in ourreservation and at the desk) and still we got two twin beds put togetherfrom which the mattresses did not stay together when we slept in themiddle. Very annoying, especially because we asked twice (reading aboutthis recurring problem in the references).
Review 55:We liked the location close to the beach and a tram stop in front.
Review 56:The windows were dirty and u could hardly look outside The sauna was only accessible for paying guests while the swimmingpool was free
Review 57:It was clean Good location, not far from the shopping and nightlife yet relaxing The rooms are newly renovated
Review 58:The dining was very basic, only one meal for everybody, take it or leave it. you had no choice. They need to offer a choice.
Review 59:The hotel was very clean, the staff all were friendly, We had a superior room with balcony/ the wellness centre was superb, we had massages and facials,
Review 60:We had a room in the old part of the hotel. This was HORRIBLY overpriced. It had the look and feel (and accomodation) of a very cheap youth hostel. We talked to other guests, and it seems the renovated part is better, but nonetheless we were seriously ripped off.
Review 61:The facilities in the renovated part are nice. The breakfast was exquisite!
Review 62:Location is excellent, pleanty of things to do nearby.
Review 63:if you are visiting in off season, please make sure you arent on the top most floor, no hater in bathroom and being close to beach its exceptionally very cold and breezy inside. Also, make sure you reach there by sharp 1500 hrs or later. In our case we were and hr before and faced no entry, might be case to case. Ample of space to park freely on nearby area, dont book slot in advance. Wifi was not having excellent range, could be the case for a given floor layout. Overall not very comfortable stay.
Review 64:Nice room with a clean roomy shower room, large comfortable bed, and a nice balcony to sit outside and have a drink. Breakfast was plentiful and the bar and restaurant were clean and spacious with friendly and helpful staff. Reception staff were also helpful and informative speaking perfect English.
Review 65:Disappointed at lack of Tea & Coffee making facilities in the room. Also, found the bed and pillows too soft.
Review 66:Breakfast was substantial with a good variety good variety of hot and cold options. An excellent and convenient location for our needs.
Review 67:I presumed that the saunas etc were included with the stay, they were not, I had to hire a bath robe too before being allowed into the "wellness centre". The cost of hiring the robe and entry came to more than I paid for a nights stay in the hotel!!! REDICULOUS! Wallsend floors very thin, can hear everything going on around you and traffic noise. At 5 am there was some one working in the room above me cleaning and moving furniture around for about 30 mins. There were workmen decorating the hotel too making a variety of noises through the day which is not good after an 8 hour drive to the hotel!
Review 68:The location was good. The breakfast was also good
Review 69:- No wifi signal at all - Wouldn't recommend their breakfast - Really small bath
Review 70:- Great location, walking distance from the beach - Price was okay
Review 71:This hotel is a sign on the wall for what Oostende is really about: A place that used to be for people who used to be. If you expect friendlyness or exciting stuff don't bother. If you are over 75 and done with everything and enjoy overpriced food ... Oostende is your thing!
Review 72:Location, close to the sea, close to the centre
Review 73:Not enough parking spaces (plus their 'private' parking is 18.50 a night, even though some of their parking spots are right on the street, just like the public parking spaces that are actually free during the entire night...). One guy at the reception was quite rude and curt, both through telephone and in person. Worst part was our room; it seems we have gotten the complete opposite from what the hotel advertises. It was dark and grudgy (curtains and walls were dark brown), had 2 small separate beds (even though we asked for a double bed), and even a spider on one of them. It was too expensive for what we got.
Review 74:The location is excellent, breakfast is very good!
Review 75:There was nothing we didn't like
Review 76:Could not fault our stay. Warm welcoming friendly and very comfortable. Breakfast was very good and plenty to choose from.
Review 77:No Tea and coffee in room. A bit dated and tired... the decorators were working in some room why we where there..
Review 78:Really large room with Sofa to watch TV. Excellent breakfast, good selection of hot and cold food. Peaceful. Near Japanese garden an beach, slightly out of centre.
Review 79:diwide pillow d not like the pillow in the bed i am a lover of the traditional wide pillow
Review 80:everything fantastic location lovely bar a buffet breakfast to die for lovely rooms even had a fridge my favorite hotel in ostende!
Review 81:The Reception were very efficient in the way they dealt with the booking. Great breakfast and staff. The hotel is very convenient for a stroll or shopping and nightlife. I've stopped in Ostend a few times but this was the first time here and won't be the last I'm sure.
Review 82:The hotel was falling apart. The lobby was old and dirty, the rooms were old and out dated. There was nothing in the room other than 2 small beds with side tables and a tv. No clock, decorations.... The pillow on the bed was about 8" square and the beds were tiny and uncomfortable. The breakfast was stale and bland. They were renovating some of the rooms while we were there but I would not stay there until it is completely done.
Review 83:The staff was friendly and helpful and the location was good.
Review 84:Helpful, but not friendly or welcoming staff at reception - no "welcome to our hotel" or "was everything alright". Charge for pet - additional EUR 17.50 per day for a small dog seems very expensive to me. I wouldn't mind if there's one flat charge for extra cleaning at the end, but not per day. Breakfast - very wide selection, but no vegetables, only canned fruit (in September!!!) and overall the food was very industrialized. Buns seemed locally baked from frozen products, but they haven't been baked until they develop some nice crust. Location - 50m from the beach is a little misleading, definitely not from the entrance, but more importantly, there's no seaside view due to the location - check the map before you book.
Review 85:Potential - hotel was in partial reconstruction during our stay (Sep 2014), so some of the negatives may not be present in the future
Review 86:I was very unlucky to stay 5 nights at the hotel during hotel reconstruction on the 3rd floor. Even without that fact, the hotel is noisy with poor sound isolation. Some truck was outside the hotel with the engine turned on every morning. The last day they shut down the water. I couldn't take a shower. Terrible experience...
Review 87:Could have done with some sort of entertainment in the evening so didnt use the bar area for this reason. parking was expensive.
Review 88:The swimming pool was very good for the children. The location was only a short walk to the beech. The buffet breakfast was very good.
Review 89:The hotel basically over-charges for its location as everything else about it is awful -- everything is worn, dirty and ugly. Parking is a rip-off. It was the worst hotel of our trip and the most expensive. Do not stay here.
Review 90:Very handy for the promenade.
Review 91:The type of room we booked wasn't available! We were given a room with a small double bed and a kitchen area. The decor was that of a poorly maintained social club. For the price of over 100euro I was very disappointed. The hallways leading to the rooms were full of stains.
Review 92:Room could have been cleaner- smelt damp, bathroom not clean, doors/ ceilings scruffy. Would benefit makeover/redecorating
Review 93:Very close to beach, town and local places of interest. Secure parking ( for cycles too!)
Review 94:customer service was generally poor. The health spa was closed due to lack of staff. The corridors have been severely damaged by the cleaning trolleys, and the carpets are stained. No secure parking, although there is an underground car park across the street.
Review 95:Great area with access to beach and lively shopping district.
Review 96:smelly carpets in passageways and bedroom broken mirror, some lights not working, shower unit fit for a dwarf only
Review 97:pool availability, regular, change of towels, friendly and helpful reception staff
Review 98:Hotel staff was not bad but should be more guest-oriented. They shouldhave informed us of availability of parking space at the time ofreservation. We had to pay eur 23 for parking at the public parking nearthe hotel!! Bathroom was flooded after taking a shower. Unbelievable!!
Review 99:Breakfast was so nice and location not far from city center.
Review 100:The room we were given for a family of three was a triple rather than the double with child bed we had requested. The decoration was tired and there was no aircon. As we spent very little time in the hotel this was not a problem but the room was sorely in need of redecoration which I believe has been done in other parts of the hotel. There was no tea or coffee making facility in the room.
Review 101:Great location and breakfast was good with a varied choice. Plenty of hot water in the bathroom and free wi-fi.
Review 102:A problem with parking - soon overcome and a stopped WC. also soon sorted.
Review 103:A swish modern hotel with latest design in facilities. The position was ideal near to beach, prom and main tourist areas. Our stay on The 4th August coincided with the marking of the 100 year anniversary of the beginning of WW1., From our room balconies our party had grandstand seats for the wonderful firework display. A wonderful evening.
Review 104:- no airco - you may be unlucky if you have a room at the side of the tramline (noise)
Review 105:- great buffet breakfast - large room - good location - friendly staff
Review 106:The entire place needs an overhaul. It's run down. The name on the building isn't clear and you can take if from there. The staff is helpful only if you beg. It took 3 tries to reach someone at the front desk by phone. Getting wifi is a challenge. It's colorless and drab with long lackluster halls. No A/C. There are better places to stay.
Review 107:The location was the best thing about the hotel. It's across from the tram and a short block to the beach. Breakfast was abundant but nothing special, no one great dish other than packaged yogurt.
Review 108:There was no air conditioning in the bedroom The breakfast was sufficient, but there were few healthy options.
Review 109:The bedroom was clean, spacious and quiet. .
Review 110:All renewed rooms. Well done. Price/quality very good
Review 111:Spa facilities and spa.
Review 112:Bit far from center
Review 113:large room, nice swimming pool. Good breakfast. Early check in
Review 114:Bad smell in room, bathroom shower flooring already worn out.
Review 115:Breakfast is better then the rest
Review 116:Proximity to town centre, friendly and helpful staff, good value bar, very good breakfast.
Review 117:Building work going on.
Review 118:Very good breakfast and good location.
Review 119:The rooms could do with updating
Review 120:Very close to town centre
Review 121:Nice location, very friendly personal. Some steps from the beach.
Review 122:situation de l'hôtel et le kit piscine jacusi etc..
Review 123:The pool and facilities, breakfast was good value
Review 124:Everything ok
Review 125:Nothing
Review 126:Everything
Review 127:Check in and check out time.
Review 128:Localization and breakfast
Review 129:Perfect location !
Review 130:It's sooooo oldfashiones..... I don't think is has ever been renovated. Lamps were damagad...
Review 131:The staff was very friendly
Review 132:Parking charges you have no option but to park no option to park at hotel had to pay 18 euros a day localy
Review 133:The location and breakfast
Review 134:Nothing!
Review 135:Great hotel!! Everthing was great!!
