Reviews for Magnuson Hotel Fishkill

Review 1:Our toiletries were never replenished after 1st night.Breakfast was too plain jane, coffee maker in room missing a part so couldn't prepare coffee

Review 2:It was a,perfect central location from places we needed to visit. We enjoyed the local dining.at he room was comfortable.

Review 3:You get charged upfront for the numbers of night you booked in the hotel. if you need to checkout before the last night, you have to go through the credit process. I understand it is how you do your business but it is inconvenient.

Review 4:clean rooms, good location. good value for your money.

Review 5:Details: no quarters at reception for laundry, no bottle opener available, sofa chair in room not facing TV. Details.

Review 6:Friendliness, cleanliness, functional

Review 7:TV was difficult to navigate thru channels. many channels not available. Continental Breakfast was skosh. No eggs, oatmeal was watery-but tasty, no fruits.

Review 8:Convenient location. Good dining nearby.

Review 9:Woken up before 6am by construction & people in parking lot (I was on 2nd floor). Carpets could be updated & dirt on door jams cleaned. Front desk staff was kind of slow on check in- it seemed one was being trained though.

Review 10:Room was pretty clean, wifi was decent, microwave & fridge a plus. Bed was comfortable & the linens clean. Breakfast served 7am-10am with muffins, different toasts, juice/tea/coffee & make your own waffles.

Review 11:Had to pay cash in advance or pay with a credit card. Wanted to pay cash at the end of my trip and they said it wasn't their policy

Review 12:Beds were really comfortable and refrigerator in the room.

Review 13:... although professional, the staff was less than welcoming; remember now: their business is called "Hospitality". I cannot understand standing at the reception-desk and having to wait for staff to actually look-up and say, "yes, may I help you?". We were particularly disappointed by the staff in-charge of the "breakfast room", who was a bit surly to say the least. Understanding that this staff is not highly-paid allowed us to make excuses to a certain degree... yet, in the end, again, the business is called: "Hospitality", and questions should be responded to on a tone that conveys courtesy rather than annoyance... so much so that a complaint needed to be made at the desk.

Review 14:...the convenience, and the fact that I have stayed there before, so I could avoid "unknowns"

Review 15:Liked your policy about no smoking. The morning waffles were a hit, especially since they were made for us. Nice touch. The breakfast is quite generous for a "continental."

Review 16:The breakfast was skimpy, the air conditioner/heater was broken, the refrigerator wasn't cold, the set-up of the bathroom was weird the sink was by front door and rest of was actually in the bathroom.

Review 17:It was a roof over our head, the staff tried to accommodate some of our needs and location was somewhat clean.

Review 18:One does not expect a spectacular view, but our room faced a trucking depot. Flip side of this, it was quieter than a room facing the main highway. So no complaint here.

Review 19:Very hospitable continental breakfast. Staff knowledgeable re local restaurants, retail and highway info.

Review 20:Only one staff person on duty at night for whole hotel so difficult to address issues. Breakfast was continental with waffles - but only one waffle maker so had to wait. Also would prefer hot egg entree. But price was right so one of two days we hit the diner next door instead.

Review 21:Property was clean and well kept up. Breakfast was included.

Review 22:The hotel name is no visible from the road. It goes under a different name until you actually drive into the property and see the name. I believe the name Hawthorne is seen from the road. Difficult to find in the dark. Also, I reserved the room for someone else, using my credit card and my card was charged instead of the couple renting the room.

Review 23:Everything else about the stay was good. I have no complaints other than what I wrote in the next box.

Review 24:Not much variety for breakfast.

Review 25:The daytime desk manager, Sandy was awesome. Always pleasant, helpful and accommodating. I stayed there before, and I'd stay there again.

Review 26:When I booked this hotel it was called Days Hotel. We had a difficult time locating it because the name had changed. We had not been notified of that. Very small breakfast area.

Review 27:Nice firm bed. Nice well lit parking lot. No loud noisy hallways.

Review 28:Booked it as a Days Inn/Hotel and given no notice that it was changed to an independent property. When I pulled up, I thought I was at the wrong place! Only provided with one hand towel and one washcloth for a two person room. Place seems a little run down, but they seem to be working on some renovations.

Review 29:Good location, breakfast was fine, room was adequate. Bed was on the firmer side but comfortable.

Review 30:Happily, we did not have a bad experience during our two consecutive stays, August 27-Sep 1, and Sep 7.

Review 31:The best things were the friendliness and competence of the staff, the central location to highways, the comfort of the room, and the value of the stay. We would definitely return to the Magnuson on our next trip to the area.

Review 32:Outdated styling from the 70's Could not open my room window as there was a torn screen HVAC unit on high barely did anything to help cool the room Around 10am my wife and I came down for breakfast and the dining area was closed and the chairs were upside down on there tables.

Review 33:It was fairly clean on the inside

Review 34:There was a mix up with the pricing. The hotel tried to charge us a higher rate than the agreed to rate. Desk clerk had to call her manager to get it corrected. Thankfully I had email confirmation and I disputed the rate. Otherwise we would have been overcharged.

Review 35:The hotel was quiet, clean, well located, and well staffed. Service was prompt and courteous.

Review 36:Rooms could use a coat of paint. Furniture is okd and falling apart (lamps) the worst of all is the rugs: smell like wet dog.

Review 37:Staff at desk very nice. Rooms are good. Breakfast is ok.

Review 38:Room had a old musty smell to it. Air conditioner was off and walked into a 90 degree room on a hot day

Review 39:Hotel was conveniently located and had many restaurants around it

Review 40:Breakfast could have more variety...also could have been ready sooner.. breakfast room opens at 7th but staff did not start cooking eggs until then ...

Review 41:The front desk staff were super helpful and friendly..

Review 42:The room we were in needed upgrades; carpet ripping at seam; bath towel holder not in studs in wall; so could not hang anything on it. Outside Window needed washing. Outlet for coffee maker did not work.

Review 43:Location good- Staff attentive- Room Clean- Room Quiet- Good Value- Bed good- Small Frig. in room-

Review 44:The hotel's name changed from Days Hotel to Magnuson, but only a small unlit sign indicated even that new name. Upon check-in, the desk clerk had no idea what my reservation rate was.

Review 45:Convenient for I-84 travelers, comfortable beds, free breakfast and wifi, everything was good for an overnight stay.

Review 46:I paid way too much for this room. The hotel across the street was much nicer and only slightly more expensive. The shower was old and crumbling and my no smoking room reeked of cigarettes. When trying to book a room the website said there were 5 rooms left at that price but when I booked I paid $20 more. Checking after it still said there were 5 rooms at the other rate.

Review 47:The room was large and comfortable. Staff was friendly and it was located right off the freeway.

Review 48:one of the pillows on my bed was had a yellow stain, and the sink was not draining water, after i told the staff, the pillow was replaced, but the sink i had to wait 2 days, because the staff member didint think it was important enough to get done.

Review 49:great hotel for a great price

Review 50:The facilities were older and not well maintained. It was also hard to find because the sign out front had a different name than the one in the listing.

Review 51:The 1st floor HC room had cobwebs. Carpet smelled like pet urine. The room entrance was too narrow for handicapped chair. Air conditioning smelled so bad we couldn't keep it on. The booking.com sign rated them a 8.7 and we couldn't believe it. There was a hole through the outside window pane. Outside view was of a lawn and woods

Review 52:Location was good but hard to find. Very poor signage.

Review 53:My room key didn't work at first. After two trips back to the front desk the clerk came up and personally took care of it for me. Also, only 2 skimpy towels in the room. If I weren't traveling alone this might have posed a problem. Finally, the free continental breakfast was good, but unexciting. But certainly beats having to go out looking for something.

Review 54:Great price. Good value for the money. Basic Hotel. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The AC worked and was quiet, so what's not to like.

Review 55:Pillows were too firm/hard - perhaps offer 4 pillows per bed? 2 soft and 2 firm? Carpet a little dingy - should be replaced - did not match "edging" carpet around walls (where woodwork would be.)

Review 56:Value for price; breakfast with Gabby 'serving' waffles!

Review 57:NOTHING

Review 58:The staff was amazing. Elsie at the front desk couldn't have been more helpful when we checked in on Wed. Afternoon The same can be said for Sandy in the morning. The man who was running the breakfast room was gracious and accomodating

Review 59:NO hot water at 10;30 AM,so I hAD TO SKIP SHOWER. DIMINISHED TOILETRIES, SO I figure this property is having problems

Review 60:The property has changed from Days Inn to Days hotel to Magnusin. So I have been through 7 stays

Review 61:Wi-fi was iffy. Didn't have a full set of towels and wash cloths for two people. Laundry facilities on floor was nice, but having to go to 1st floor for ice was awkward. Hard to find: signage was not consistent with new name.

Review 62:Staff was friendly and helpful. Facilities were nice. Value was very good.

Review 63:They charged my credit card two times for the same stay

Review 64:The room was nice the bed was good it would have been a great stay if they had not charged my credit card two time

Review 65:Has not been maintained. No freezer compartment in room reefer. Staff freezer did not work. Could not keep insulin cold with melted ice pack.

Review 66:Staff was pleasant

Review 67:The room always had a damp feel, especially the bed. It felt almost humid in the room. Also, the shower curtain was not big enough for the type of rod they had hanging, so water sprayed everywhere when you took a shower. The room smelled musty and like mildew. They definitely need to executes some upgrades to the property. The breakfast was also very limited. Smallest continental breakfast I have ever seen. We weren't impressed at all.

Review 68:The front desk staff was always wonderful and accommodating. It was also very conveniently located to the other hotel where guests of the wedding we were attending were staying.

Review 69:We hadn't been informed of the name change before we left England so we were looking for Days Inn ? It took us an extra 30 mins as we hadn't been shown a map as normal with a booking. A nearby hotel pointed us in the right direction

Review 70:The breakfast was very good.

Review 71:They claim that there is free WiFi. We could not connect, and when we complained, the woman at the front desk asked which floor we our rooms were on. When we said the 4th floor, she said, quite seriously and with no embarrassment, that since their router was on the 2nd floor people on the fourth floor often could not get WiFi! No apologies, just a statement of fact. Also, one of our towels was damp before we used it.

Review 72:The things i liked best were: the friendly man who made our waffles for us, the bed, and the water pressure in the shower.

Review 73:No name on hotel when arrived so hard to find it. The name was changed after I booked reservation and I was not informed of this change. Breakfast area small so seating was difficult.

Review 74:I was there only 1 night and it was a good location for what I wanted. The room was a good size. Free pkg and breakfast had fair amount of choices. Room was clean and bed was comfortable.

Review 75:The idiot who smoked a cigarette in a stairwell and set off the firealarm at 6am on 8/26. other than that...all good. Booking.com didnot inform the hotel about a cancellation I made on 8/23... verysticky situation but I had the confirmation email in my iphone.

Review 76:The location is perfect and the red line diner is two minutes away. Bestdiner on the planet!!

Review 77:We had a hard time finding the place because they changed their name two weeks prior to our visit. There socks under the bed. The mattress was sinking in the middle.

Review 78:The staff was friendly. The breakfast was adequate.

Review 79:Disorganized -- room card key worked sporadically, tv picture quality not great, wifi went down occasionally, but was able to connect to neighboring wifis

Review 80:Friendly and accomodating staff, convenient location, great value for the price and amenities

Review 81:The check-in time was at 3pm, I was there at 8am so I had to wait. The wifi didn't get good connectivity

Review 82:Th staff was friendly and it was nice to not have to go put a parking pass on my car

Review 83:The facilities and room(s) need updating, and sprucing up. The bathroom in the room that I was in was way too small, even for one person.

Review 84:The Staff was welcoming, helpful, and accommodating. They couldn't have been nicer, and more efficient. I hope the new owner appreciates them.

Review 85:I appreciated the night manager helping me. The key didn't work on my room. The second time, the key worked but the room had not been cleaned. I went back for a third try and the manager came up with me to make sure the key and the room were acceptable.

Review 86:The price was very reasonable. The night manager on my first night was very helpful. He went above and beyond what I would have expected to make my stay enjoyable from day one. This was my second stay.

Review 87:Well the hotel was a smoke free zone but yet the room I stayed in had a strong cigaret smell .

Review 88:The bed was comfortable and the morning staff at breakfast was very helpful .

Review 89:Note: Very minor confusion upon arrival: the hotel name changed to Magnuson Hotel. GPS got us to 20 Schuyler, Fishkill, but no Days Hotel. We compared the photo on Booking w actual bldg; yep, this was it. Desk clerk said it had changed name about two weeks before. (Our reservation was still good, of course. No problem). I was a bit surprised that they (the hotel? Booking?) did not notify incoming guests who had made reservations under old name. But this was not a big deal.

Review 90:Clean, updated, friendly, location, price. Near restaurants: Cracker Barrel, Panera, Starbucks, etc. Beautiful area-- the Hudson R valley. We were visiting friend at West Point for weekend. Charming town of Cold Spring (5 miles south) worth a look.

Review 91:The room and hallways smell like feet, The breakfasts is terrible, Only eggs are hard boiled (ha ha) every morning the hard boiled eggs were not hard boiled. the waffles were good and the boxed cereal. 1st night we only had 1 towel, had to ask for more. If you need to stay some place cheap and are not to picky here is the place..

Review 92:The rooms were freshly painted over rough walls that were not sanded ...so it looked bad. The rugs were kind if sticky without shoes on,,,nasty. Staff were not personable at all.

Review 93:The room was clean and comfortable. the wifi was good....

Review 94:The workout equipment was in poor equipment and someone took a picture in the mirror to make it look like a room full of equipment. Me and my husband usually workout together and that didn't happen so I lost a week of work out. Truth better than a lie anyday.

Review 95:The breakfast was ok.

Review 96:Rather have 2 beds rather than the king one we had this time.

Review 97:We stay here about once a month for visits with family. Very central to the area we visit. Near restaurants, shopping, etc. great rates!!,

Review 98:Difficult to reach parking lot due to location and design of streets. Improved signage might help.

Review 99:Good value for cast. Close to exit from I84. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 100:We were warned that a $100 fine would be placed on our card if we smoked in the room and when we walked into our room, it smelled as if 8 people had been smoking in it and it was very damp and musty too. The painting job on the rooms was atrocious.

Review 101:Early check in cannot be arranged in advance; credit card taken intoback room for swipe; no hot water in the morning.

Review 102:Comfortable bed, clean space; good price.

Review 103:Wifi was unsecured. Staff passed thru outside call without asking questions; caller pretended to be front desk to get my CC info.

Review 104:Bed super comfortable.

Review 105:Need to add a small lounge for a leisurely drink to wind down after a full day. There needs to be a ice machine on all floors. A snack machine would be nice as there is no kitchen facilities except for the included breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. only.

Review 106:Nice breakfast items included in the price of the stay. Freshly made waffles and small omelets are very good along with several other items to choose from.

Review 107:Rooms needed renovation and modernization. It was obvious that this facility had a face lift, but more work is needed. There was no ice machine or soda machine on the 2nd floor, but there was a convenience store close by where I could purchase reasonably priced snacks beverages and ice,

Review 108:It was conveniently located near my school. There was a convenience store and gas station within walking distance. The facility was priced correctly for its current state.

Review 109:Moldy smell in the room. After a few hours with the air conditioner running it was no longer noticeable.

Review 110:The price was right. Beds, TV, A/C, etc. were all good.

Review 111:The hotel is a little cramped with the set up (space-wise) rooms & hallways and renovation is absolutely needed to free up space especially the kitchen/breakfast area ; Rooms were okay but tight spaced as with the general set up of the hotel anyways.

Review 112:location is good

Review 113:The hotel didn't have the room ready when we arrived. The management during the day fired the housekeeping staff with no one to replace. Rm lacked towels, when asked they were put out to bring towels to the rm.We arrived 3-4 hours late after check in .

Review 114:Hotel was clean and freshly painted.

Review 115:only negative can say is that the shower curtain rod drooped down, so we got a couple of large clips from staples and it wasn't a problem.

Review 116:the person that took care of the breakfast facilities was great. and, one of the front desk ladies was a joy to chat with. entire staff was friendly and competent.

Review 117:Only bad experience was the quality of the breakfast. The eggs with cheese was tasteless and discarded after first bite. The waffle maker was complicated for most people using it and caused a back up. Would have liked some sausage or bacon available. Could have been a bigger area as it filled up quickly with only 4 small tables.Ended up going next door at a diner for a great breakfast.

Review 118:Staff was courteous, helped with directions and I arrived earlier than the 3pm check in and they let me go to my room. Air conditioner was quiet too and very efficient giving the 90 degrees weather.

Review 119:THE ANTS!!!#

Review 120:While I've stayed here before with no problems, during my recent stay, my room had ants, and not just a couple. I called the front desk and was given a new room but that one had ants too.

Review 121:Rundown hotel with dated furniture. Not terribly clean. First room had a distinct tobacco smell--this after being warned by the fellow at the front desk not to smoke or risk a $100 charge. I got another room that was in slightly better shape. Rug was stained and mattress was well used. Based on online reviews, I gather this is not an actual DaysInn, but they continue to use the logo. For $95/night, it's not a good deal. Go to the Holiday Inn Express across the street and tear this relic of the kitschy 1970's down.

Review 122:Not much to like aside from location, decent WiFi and tv.

Review 123:The guy at the check-in counter was not pleasant. They need a better variety for breakfast. The smell as you enter, and throughout the hotel was not pleasant.

Review 124:Location was good. Prices was good. Restaurants and stores are close by.

Review 125:Breakfast. It would be better not to have a breakfast offering than to put out folded factory egg triangles with cheese whiz. Just stick to coffee and fruit. The eggs were like plastic.

Review 126:Price.

Review 127:On our arrival, I had to ask for 2 more bath towels, 2 hand towels, 2 addtl pillows, 1 wash cloth, the clock radio was broken, no water or coffee cups in room. I made a list and brought it to the front desk. After we went to dinner and came back, things were delivered and a new clock radio in place, but I should not have to ask for these things and someone should have checked the dead clock. The coffee in the breakfast room should be moved to outside the room. People try to get into the corner just for coffee and cannot with all the food on the counters. I wrote about this last stay as well and still shoved in the corner of the kitchen. Room was dated, dated gold carpet, base molding unglued, only one dim light in the bathroom. There was an issue with the lock on the door next to us and maintenance was banging and hammering for an hour approx. 7pm that night. The entrance doors on sides of building were never locked...anyone could just walk in..scary thought. Should have to use your room key to get in.

Review 128:Breakfast was good, wonderful male taking care of the restocking of the breakfast room and cleaning up right away...so kudos to him. Parking was good and well lit. Convenient to everything we needed.

Review 129:The breakfast was manned, the eggs were nasty, no meat, but it is included with stay but if they upgraded breakfast they would probably get more customers and the nightly charge is too high for hard beds, sticking doors, lack of breakfast, no hand cream, cheap soap, no written TV guide. But all this can be fixed with very little investment and time.

Review 130:It was not run down but it seems to be on a downward spiral

Review 131:Ants covering the food area, with no effort from staff to remove them.

Review 132:Nice room, friendly staff, but a line of ants all over the breakfast, with little or no choice offered, made this stay OK, but not good.

Review 133:Room smelt bad Faucet was loose Shower curtain was too close to bath wall, kept touching while showering

Review 134:Fresh waffles for breakfast Beds were comfy

Review 135:We returned late and went to the vending machine for something to drink only to find that it was out of most everything. The most annoying however is that despite being a "completely smoke free hotel" some of the guess decided to test this. Last thing is the sink outside the bathroom. I don't travel very often, so this was a first.

Review 136:It's relatively close to everything. Receptionist was accommodating.

Review 137:We got a decent price, and confirmed reservation. However, when we arrived, they had no reservation listed for me. UGH! Had this happen before at a Super 8 in White River Junction, Vermont and it was a total nightmare. This time was VERY different. The young man at the front desk was extremely helpful and professional. He took the information from the booking confirmation I printed, and we had a room within minutes at the reserved price. Some hotels list "king size" beds, but when you arrive its really a full size - maybe queen at most, but this was definitely a king size bed which was a nice surprise. Clean, comfortable, and all we really needed to sleep for just one night. We would stay here again without hesitation.

Review 138:It wasn't close to the place I was going to (green haven correctional facility)but that's not the hotels fault,I have no complaints

Review 139:It was quite very relaxing the breakfast was good it was to much and omg again the bed I didn't wanna get out of it,the staff knew I was running late they waited on me and made me feel good,I've stayed at many hotels but days is the best

Review 140:our room had a crack in the wall but did not detract from everything else.

Review 141:Hotel is very clean and service was good. Did not try the breakfast as two restaurants we wanted to try were right next door.

Review 142:We requested a crib in advance when we made the reservation, and when wechecked in I double-checked that we would get one and the woman at thecounter said that it should already be in the room, but if it wasn'tshe would bring us one. There was not one in the room, so I called herand it took her a little while to come up, but when she arrived, she hada cot with her, not a crib. She said that there were none available, towhich I reminded her that we'd requested one weeks in advance, andshe said that the cot would "work just as well." No. A giantcot did not work well at all for our one year old. We ended up having topush an armchair against the bed and try and build the sides of it upwith pillows so in case he stood up in the middle of the night hewouldn't immediately fall out.

Review 143:The bed was comfortable, the room was clean.

Review 144:The shower stall looked old, the floor tile was dirty in the corners. The toilet seat was old and the paint was peeling off of it. Home Depot sells cheap seats for $7.00. I suggest that they buy one for the next occupant!

Review 145:The bed itself was nice and firm and was overall ok for the money.
