Reviews for The View Boutique Hotel & Spa
Review 1:A staff member who accused me of not paying for accommodation, she insisted that I have to pay & after I proved to her that I did pay, she didn't even apologize for the confusion, which I still don't understand what she was trying to do
Review 2:The size of the room, everything in the room was perfect, it's a nice romantic place for a couple. They have wonderful friendly staff. I will visit again with my partner
Review 3:Staff were very unfriendly, breakfast was very shoddy for a five star hotel, there was no mozarella cheese, no croissants and waited for coffees , food etc. There were no paper serviettes and we were given toliet paper as paper serviettes!!!!. Serious customer service training is needed here if you are going to retain your five star status.
Review 4:Lovely spacious and luxurious rooms and great views. Staff at reception were great and welcoming.
Review 5:Never had a dull moment
Review 6:Oh when I got lost at Amanzimtoti station the hotel sent a driver to fetch me..da View Boutique hotel is like my second home. Its a place to heal when a heart hurts!!,
Review 7:We had to wait over 1 hour to be checked in and also I had requested that we could check-in early and had a confirmation that was in order but nothing was sorted out.
Review 8:The stuff didn't know how much I have paid and how much I should pay when I got there just a heads up that everything should be documented and that everyone should know. I could.
Review 9:Liked the breakfast and the room. The was peace and quiet. Next time I would like to go to the deluxe room. :)
Review 10:The winding, narrow, steep access road which leads to the hotel. Hotel on several levels with some tricky area to navigate on smooth tiles.
Review 11:Once we got to the hotel, enjoyed the view over the ocean. The full breakfast with great coffee!! Luxurious room.
Review 12:Beautiful, well organized place! The view is fantastic due to the location but it comes with a lot of steps up and down to anywhere. Staff jump at any command to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
Review 13:Booked for two days but were so pleased and impressed we decided to stay another night. We were upgraded to a fabulous room and the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable. The restaurant and food was exceptional, can't wait to return !
Review 14:The hotel is set on a hill and parking on the wrong side could mean walking up and down to the vehicle.
Review 15:The facilities are impeccable and offers one with a relaxed atmosphere. The place is really nice and offers some breathtaking views of the Indian ocean.
Review 16:Attention to detail all around was atrocious. At breakfast, every single thing needed an additional request or reminder. We waited routinely for the right cutlery for everything. Juice was boxed and poor quality. It's supposed to be a five star hotel; you can't manage to buy some Sir Juice down the road? Spinach was unwashed and gritty, and one morning I found a rubber band in my omelet. Oh, and a few (completely normal) things my boyfriend ordered were met with outright insults by the staff. When he ordered capers to go with his smoked salmon, the waitress first did not know what they were, and then served them with a look of disgust and a comment, "I don't know how you eat these things." When he ordered a double cappuccino the next day, she served it saying, "It's too strong, né?" and again, a look of disgust. It's fine and cute if you're in a casual family diner, but again, this is supposed to be a five-star experience. When the management apologized for the rubber band in the omelet, they sent a bottle of JC LeRoux - the cheapest, tackiest, most bottom-of-the-line champagne (truly, the type that teenagers each chip in a few rand to get trashed on) - to the room, along with some chocolates that were equally horrible (I tried to give them away at the office, I could not GIVE AWAY these chocolates). There was a typed apology note, with my name, but apologizing for "the loud noise in the evening." There was no such noise, we never complained about any noise, and a manager explicitly said "Very sorry about your breakfast experience, we've sent champagne and chocolates to the room to apologize." So someone took the time to print a note, change the name, but not look at the rest of the note? It was just funny, really. The intentions were there, but not any attention to detail.
Review 17:The room itself, bed, and bathroom were all fine. Decor a little dated but not really a problem. Gym was adequate but cramped. Spa was nice; massage was perfectly nice but I am no connoisseur. Dinner at the restaurant was very nice - baffling, then, that breakfast was so consistently awful.
Review 18:Every time we have been there the glasses still had someones lipstick on and the fork was still dirty. Just have to improve in tje restaurant.
Review 19:Rooms are beautiful. Beautiful view. Lovely breakfast.
Review 20:the sewer line outside blocked and the room had a stream of toilet water flowing through it, bubbling out via the loo. a rather horrendous experience and spoilt our entire weekend
Review 21:Restaurant bad bad service raw mussels raw crousons no salt on tables terable service Pizza pasta 5 star never rooms don't full up or replace nothing in the room like the fridge coffee bath salt
Review 22:the spa
Review 23:waitress didn't explain everything correctly she only mention that we are allowed to take 3 beverages but when we were leaving she told us that sodas e.g. cokes, Fanta, etc. you have to pay for them yet in my understanding those are part of beverages
Review 24:Everything was perfect
Review 25:Everything else was excellent keep it up.
Review 26:The bed compared to other beds we used before was not good at all, please ensure that next time we come back there you give us a room with comfortable bed.
Review 27:The ironing board is in poor condition. There isn't a socket or adaptor for the room's own hair dryer. The lock is worn on the door. The selection in the menu is small. Basically pasta, pizza or one chicken or one beef or one fish, dish.
Review 28:I liked the decor and the feel of the linen.
Review 29:Most beautifully-kept premises, with helpful and friendly staff, in the most picturesque surrounds. Decor and attention to detail is astounding. Giorgio's - the inhouse restaurant - is fine Italian cuisine at its best! I have never been so sad to leave for home!
Review 30:Very limited choice of TV channels. This is a change esp when traveling with kids. And we consistently had to call for assistance on operating the TV's as they handly picked up signal on few Chanel's offered
Review 31:Friendly stuff and beautiful rooms
Review 32:The surrounding environment is not the best not much to look at but the place itself is great.
Review 33:Beautiful too, great staff...very clean very well organised...definitely worth going to time and time again
Review 34:The comparison to other 5 star Hotels, the Suite was not comparable. The room was excellent, but it was not a suite. A suite has more than just a bed and bathroom. I compared this to other 5 star establishments that I have frequented. e.g. Sheriton (Pretoria), Westin (Arabella Cape Town); Hilton (Durban). Nevertheless it was still most enjoyable. Thank you
Review 35:The portion sizes of the meals were quite small. Also struggled with wifi access, which was only available in the rooms or reception and not at the restaurant. I asked for a couch as we had brought our 11month old, but unfortunately we were taken to a room with a chair, not a couch. They later offered a room with a couch on our second night.
Review 36:The breakfast was a highlight of the stay...beautiful gourmet meals. We just had to instagram. Too bad, we came back too late to try dinner. The rooms were clean, bed comfortable and excellent service from staff.
Review 37:I didn't have a bad experience but I'm not too sure how the place got a 5 star rating. I would have most probably only given it a 4 star rating. I didn't like that their staff walked passed our room arriving and leaving for work. The bed and room was also on the small side. The surfaces of the hotel (outside) are extremely slippery. There are warning signs everywhere but it still takes you aback on how dangerous the floors are when you first experience it. I also did not like the fact that after walking all the way up to reception to drop off the key, I had to walk all the way back to our room so that they could check that I had NOT had anything from the mini bar after I said that I had NOT had anything from the mini bar. I do appreciate that they need to check but I am sure that there must be a better way to do this.
Review 38:The location was great for us and the "View's" from our room and the hotel are awesome. Loved having dinner there and the breakfast is to die for. :-) Really enjoyed having our bed turned down and those cute little baby cupcakes were a lovely touch.
Review 39:The road signage are a bit confusing...especially the one at the 3 way stop...but other than that...nothing else.
Review 40:The place is neat as pin the staff is super friendly and helpful views are to die for... I'm out of words to describe beauty, comfort, cleanliness, and everything for this place...I had the best time of my life...
Review 41:There was no power for a day and half due to municipal cable faults, a back up generator would be a good investment for such a prestige hotel.
Review 42:The staff went out of the way to ensure our stay was most enjoyable.
Review 43:breakfast is too fussy and takes too much time for businessmen who might be in a hurry. Nowhere to walk too easily. No wifi in bedrooms.
Review 44:Great location and views, nice and competent staff.
Review 45:Breakfast could've been better. When we booked in we didn't get a plac at the restaurant, was full. We had to have room service & It was our first evening in Toti.
Review 46:The receptionist Ayanda was so professional and friendly upon arrival. Dinner at Giogio's was so amazing I could drive there just for dinner. The room was neat and elegant with a beautiful sea view. The pool, gym, Spa and steam room facilities were fantastic. To top it up, Breakfast was divine. I will be coming back here for sure. No wonder its a five Star rating
Review 47:The staff were extremely friendly and always eager to help. Very efficient. Great location. Amazing spa on the premises. Breathtaking view. Food was spectacular. I most especially love the names of the pizzas :)
Review 48:The food at Giorgios was absolutely excellent, my husband and I made a point of ordering a different dish every night. The staff at the view were friendly helpful and gave great attention to customer satisfaction.
Review 49:We waited much too long for breakfast at Giorgio's.. over 1,5hrs. At least 3 other patrons complained of poor service. Some had no cutlery , we had the mains before the starters.. Napkins were not placed on tables. However when the breakfast did eventually arrive it was amazing. All is forgiven
Review 50:I loved the reception from Ashley on our arrival. He personally escorted us to our room and explained the facilities and ensured we were happy and settled. Everything was spotless and the position of our room was great :)
Review 51:i was disappointed with the dinner at Giorgios restaurant. I found the portion sizes extremely small. I had Kingklip for dinner and the portion was two mouthfuls at most. this was not value for money. the menu was not extensive with limited choices for vegetarians. Breakfast menu also did not cater for vegan
Review 52:The Spa was beautiful. room was comfortable except for massive cockroache in the room
Review 53:One or two meals from the restaurant, fell marginally short of the usual standard, when trying to cope with larger numbers of evening diners. The menu could benefit from a greater variety, however the quality and consistency was generally very high.
Review 54:Unparalleled personalised service, in an incredibly difficult time. The support of hotel staff and management was simply flawless. Every detail was meticulously managed and the staff were patient, precise, warm and accommodating.
Review 55:One night, there was no running water - so no shower, no flushing of toilet, and no brushing of teeth. Also, the WIFI is very unreliable. The road to the hotel is very steep.
Review 56:The included breakfast was delicious. Signs to the hotel were posted along the highway and roads.
Review 57:Opening hours of restaurant! With no bar at the premises - except for the mini bar, I do not think that it is fair that a restaurant has opening hours from 19-20:45, that is just way too early to stop serving customers on vacation - Europeans in particular! ;)
Review 58:Location, Rooms, Price
Review 59:I do bookings on behalf of my company's corporate travellers and they come back from the View with glowing reports. Ashley on reservations is an absolute gem!
Review 60:NOTHING
Review 61:Staff could not do enough for you. were fantastic I booked this for my parents in law for her birthday. they actually made her a cake and everyone wished her happy birthday. she said she felt so spoilt and the staff could not do enough for them. FANTASTIC PLACE
Review 62:Restaurant service satisfactory. Menu very limited. Does not cater for people who do not eat beef or pork. Breakfast should be continental. Croissants petite. Mould in showers and leaking. Spa treatment and time period should be stated clearly as it is very vague and . Had to query items on the statement for clarity. Copies of all receipts, room service etc should be given to guests for reconciliation purposes.
Review 63:I loved the scenery and location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Spa was lovely. Loved the high tea.
Review 64:Standard of daily cleaning in suite was not consistent. Did not find the bed nor the pillows comfortable. Guests should be given more information on arrival of what is available to the guests.
Review 65:Suite was lovely. Management and staff were excellent and breakfasts delicious. Really enjoyed the view and the spa bath.
Review 66:Spa Bath needed Cleaning. Moved to a different room during my stay.
Review 67:Location. Excellent Staff. Excellent Restaurant. Rooms are Stunning. Private. No noise from Surrounding Area.
Review 68:Privacy was an issue for as one could hear your neighbors. The bed was big enough but very squeaky. They tried to fix it with minimal changes.
Review 69:Everything else.
Review 70:Load shedding and the lack of a back up generator. We lost the use of the Spa bath and it was extremely inconvenient.
Review 71:Accommodation was 5 star, and staff was great even during load shedding. Spa was an added bonus. Wife will definitely be back and will recommend it to all.
Review 72:The room could've done with a bit of maintenance. Some cracked floor tiles, dirty hand marks on the wallpaper and water damage on one of the basin pipes.
Review 73:The staff were very helpful, friendly and professional and always accommodating. We loved the access to the Spa and gym facilities. Lovely tranquil surroundings and beautiful views. Beautiful pool deck. Giorgios restaurant a culinary delight. Loved, loved, loved the spa bath in our room!!
Review 74:Nothing, how often can one say that!
Review 75:Everything. The staff were amazingly helpful, the room magnificent, the food outstanding (went back the next day and had my son's wedding reception lunch there), the Spar was fantastic and good value for money. The special running till the 18th was a bonus and going back before it ends... I have nothing negative to say about The View Hotel and Spar...Thank you to all.
Review 76:the room was smelling bad from smoke either guests smoke outside with doors open or inside. suggestion : provide an alternative smoking area way from rooms.
Review 77:The spa experience with my wife was superb , the food delicious, the staff very receptive.
Review 78:Wish the weather was good , we didnt get to swim in the pool
Review 79:great stay great people very helpful Cindy from the resturant. 2 ladies at reception and shaun Thank You guys
Review 80:Restaurant dinner menu was limited. Service slow.
Review 81:This hotel is true to treating guests like royalty. Hotel is absolutely clean. Exceptional value for money.
Review 82:* my booking was R1000 but R1500 was taken off my credit card 2 weeks prior to my stay. * I paid for a Luxury room and was given a Standard room. * Upon inquiry, I was told that a function was being held near the room I booked which is why we were moved...no one cared to ask me if it would be okay.
Review 83:urmmmm....
Review 84:Before staff willy nilly say someone is not there, they please just make absolutely sure first. This happened to me but was resolved quickly. Someone else could get very irrate.
Review 85:I was given a very warm welcome and found my room to be better than I expected. My room was spotless. The facilities great. My mother in law was invited to have breakfast with me the following morning. The staff were very friendly. I will most certainly recommend The View to anyone wanting a warm, friendly, cosy and easily accessible place to stay.
Review 86:The shortage of hot water and the daily cleaning of rooms which was not attended to.
Review 87:The tranquillity of the serene setting with an awesome view. The landscaping set upon a hill overlooking the Majestic Indian ocean compliments the beautiful surroundings of the The View Boutique Hotel. A beautiful Getaway.
Review 88:There are no towel rails in the bathroom, and nowhere to put all the "stuff" one travels with. The bathroom is huge, so space is not the problem.
Review 89:The fact that our stay was so short.
Review 90:From our arrival to our departure, we felt completely at home here. Excellent service, great room, fabulous food! Loved every minute here & we will be back!
Review 91:Nothing to dislike
Review 92:By every measure this is an excellent hotel. I have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world and this hotel is up there with the best of them. Expensive by S.African standards but cheap by international standards. My compliments to the owner, managers and particularly the staff.
Review 93:Too much foot traffic past our room so privacy was a bit of a issue
Review 94:1. The view from our room was incredible 2. Had the best massage ever from the spa 3. Food was also amazing tasty!
Review 95:My wife and I were celebrating our 6th Anniversary, we booked the Grand Deluxe room expecting luxury and comfort like seen on the photos on the internet. The room was way to small, and not value for money. The bathroom had mildew and was not up to standard and needed some maintainance. The room was cramped. Not what you expect from a 5 STAR hotel. My wife and I booked the Spa, only to find out when we get there, that the Jacuzzi was not working. None of the staff advised us of this prior to us booking. We returned to our room to find a bottle of Alcoholic sparkling wine (we do not drink alcohol). No one bothered to enquire.
Review 96:Bed linen was clean and of a high quality. Staff were friendly and accomodating. Lunch and Breakfast was good. We were not happy with our room and were moved to a more suitable room, the Deluxe which was better thant the Grand Deluxe which we had originally booked in our opinion.
Review 97:Dirty bathroom linen! Shower door didn't close! Potentially dangerous steps with no hand rails! Room not ready on check-in! Difficult to access from road!
Review 98:Liked view and restaurant
Review 99:Preparedness of the Spa stuff and generall experience at the spa, it was not up to standard
Review 100:The reception lady Nosipho, blew my mind in terms of the experienved i received when I checked in, she made sure that all my needs were taken care off even attended to my needs to move a room. She was an excellent host
Review 101:The name says it all "THE VIEW"
Review 102:the elegant décor and the facilities like spa their beautiful lounges especially the high tea lounge but it would be lovey to have wifi in the rooms
Review 103:Professional staff, excellent views
Review 104:...our bathroom geyser wasnt working and but they changed our room quickly ...thank god
Review 105:The effieciency of the breakfast n cleaning staff
Review 106:Nil
Review 107:When hotel staff sent a courtecy car to fetch us from Amanzimtoti station.Breakfast was brought to our room
Review 108:Rooms too noisy as walls are thin
Review 109:Breakfast
Review 110:Free internet only at reception and pretty slow!
Review 111:Your staff residing at the room underneath us...they speak loud and make noise in the morning while we still sleeping
