Reviews for Bavarian Inn

Review 1:There were warm cookies in the lobby when we arrive! The inn is attractive and located close to the Main Street in Custer, close to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Very comfortable beds, room was large modern and cozy. We also enjoyed the pool, hot tub, and pancake breakfast! Lovely place!

Review 2:It would be nice if the breakfast started a couple hours earlier than 7am, but non ever do. We were deer hunting so we left the hotel at around 5 am every morning.

Review 3:The rooms are very nice and clean, modern. The beds were very comfortable for a hotel. It's not my sleep number with memory foam, but for a hotel bed it was excellent.

Review 4:The walls were paper thin we could heat people outside talking at the table and when we were trying to sleep til we could hear the people next door talking

Review 5:The stay was great beautiful area nice rooms.

Review 6:The only negative feature was the lack of soundproofing. Our neighbors sounded like a herd of buffalo moving around their rooms. Two out of three nights the stomping and banging around went on until 11pm and started up again at about 6am.

Review 7:Great facilities, staff, and location.

Review 8:The whole room felt dirty. The bed sheets were not white but dingy. Walls were in sections like mobile trailer house walls and had what I hope was dirt spots. Mold in bathroom. Smoking is allowed outside one's room for all next door to smell. Outside lights shown in room through the whole night. One cup coffee maker at the all cold continental breakfast-the line was very long for coffee. People stood in line for a table or stood up while eating breakfast. We were not the only ones checking out early the next day. The "German restaurant" has been sold, no German food whatsoever. But a good beer and pool table underneath. A one star motel at most.

Review 9:The worst part of staying at the Bavarian Inn was having to leave!!! I didn't want to go home!!!!

Review 10:It was so homey! Staff was excellent. I cannot think of one single reason why I wouldn't go back to the Bavarian Inn.

Review 11:Not a good idea to go thru Casper in October. They roll up the streets, no stores open, almost no where to eat.

Review 12:It was so nice' it was very clean and had everything in the room we needed. Girl at the desk was very nice. Would definatly go back.

Review 13:Only small issue the breakfast room is very small and crowded, If they could make it larger somehow, guests would be more comfortable.

Review 14:Very clean room, friendly helpful staff.Good breakfast. Quiet location.Beautiful grounds, tennis courts, pool, many activities.cenral location for are attractions like Mt Rushmore.

Review 15:First of all, the price was the best we could find for what we needed. When we arrived we were treated with complimentary fresh out of the oven cookies and ice cold milk! The receptionist was very friendly and informative. We had a king suite that had been remodeled and it was beyond our expectations. Very tastefully decorated and the bed and bedding were so comfortable. The complimentary breakfast offered many choices and everything was very good.

Review 16:Worst bed ever! No box springs, just slats under mattress. Poor housekeeping we were there a week with no sink, faucets, toilet cleaning. No glasses exchanged. Room appearance dismal: brown walls and not one picture. Greatly over priced.

Review 17:Location is good in a quiet area. Laundry facilities available.

Review 18:The double French door entrance to the rooms didn't feel very secure. The walls were thin and you could hear other rooms conversations and upstairs walking and bumping around. It is more of a motel than Inn, but still comfortable.

Review 19:The beds were very comfortable, good breakfast and friendly staff. The property was very clean.

Review 20:Flowers, patio chairs and other little touches really perked up the place to raise it above your typical motel. Staff was very friendly and attentive to a few minor issues that came up. There was a nice path/exercise circuit behind the motel. Restaurants, shopping and sites were just minutes away.

Review 21:There was no place to play board games with our friends. It was October and the pool was a walk across the parking lot.

Review 22:Rooms were great. Breakfast was good.

Review 23:No lift to upper level - difficult for the disabled.

Review 24:Handy for Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Staff are awesome and the father on cookies and complimentary tea and coffee all day much appreciated. Glad they had the restaurant next door.

Review 25:Nothing

Review 26:Stayed two nights in September, Cannot fault this Motel. Modern rooms, great facilities, including a heated indoor pool and hot tub. Good breakfast and very nice Staff. This Motel was also very good value for money compared to others that we encountered on our road trip. I would n't hesitate to recommend it to other travellers in the Black Hills area.

Review 27:It is a very quaint, peaceful facility. I loved having a table & chairs outside our room for early am coffee and late pm drink. And the flowers...flowers make me happy and the Inn's were absolutely gorgeous.

Review 28:There was hardly any breakfast. They din't even have a breakfast room.2 chairs and a tiby table. There were people standin in line to make themselves pancakes.

Review 29:The place itself is surrounded by trees ,a swimm9ing pool.It is very pleasant to stay there.

Review 30:The only thing I did not like was the insects which were coming into the room. Lots of flies, a couple of wasps and several western conifer seed bugs getting in even when the doors and windows were shut. They were annoying but other than that, the rooms were in good shape. A little work needs to be done in the bathrooms. They are showing some water damage. I think it was a good deal for the price.

Review 31:I liked most about it, the pool, tennis courts, hot tub, staff friendliness and helpfulness.

Review 32:Wouldnt change a thing. We were given 2 keys and one didnt work. Didnt matter to us...

Review 33:The rooms were nice and roomy and very clean. Next trip to South Dakota I dont have to worry about finding a good motel! I already have one!!

Review 34:Room cleanliness needs attention. Restaurant has great potential but probably one of the worst meals that I have had.

Review 35:Room was pleasantly laid out and convenient.

Review 36:Very friendly staff. Great location; close to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial and Custer State Park. Pet Friendly and just a great overall place to stay.

Review 37:Smokers were right below - could smell it upstairs. Outside stairs were not well lit. Shower was short - had to squat down. Bathtub didn't match the rest of the updates.Thin walls - noisy neighbors. Foot of bed juts out and we kept tripping on it. Goods FAR outweigh the bads though.

Review 38:Beautiful surroundings! Gorgeous property, lots of fun amenities like tennis courts, pool table, pool, spa, board games, freshly baked cookies, delicious breakfast. The staff was very sweet and helpful. Love the furnishings - really up to date. Comfy beds. Excellent price. Fast free wifi.

Review 39:The room was clean. I just think that more attention could have been paid to the light fixtures and window ceals. Both had dead bugs. Super simple to clean just maybe needed to be pointed out to housekeeping

Review 40:I really think that this was a good place to stay for the price.

Review 41:Too expensive for a very plain room , mediocre breakfast, advertised a "European style" breakfast but it wasn't

Review 42:Location was good,, staff was very friendly & helpful.

Review 43:we were last to check in, hotel was full, so we were allocated a downstairs room at the start of a corridor, with a creaky external staircase outside our room - therefore lots of noise of other guests passing our room. complimentary breakfast ok but nothing special.

Review 44:lots of leisure facilities

Review 45:Heavily booked consequently my sisters room didn't get cleaned and some soiled towels were left in ours. A bit over priced

Review 46:Well kept. Comfortable rooms. Friendly staff

Review 47:The only thing that I didn't like was the extremely SLOOOOW wifi.

Review 48:I LOVED the access to the laundry facilities. travelling for a week with 3 kids, laundry was a necessity. They also loved the pool.

Review 49:The restaurant the chop house was high priced and the food was not good. We got steak and it was full of grease. Would not recommend. We wish it had been closer to better restaurants.

Review 50:I loved the location, staff was very friendly and helpful. Easy access to everything we wanted to go to.

Review 51:Staff was terrific! Also, there were cookies every afternoon, and we got coupons for free drinks at the restaurant next door. And free postcards! It was really convenient for the touring we were doing in and around the Black Hills.

Review 52:Minor - we don't eat a lot of carbs so continental breakfast isn't good for us. We grabbed coffee and a yogurt. Adding hard boiled eggs would be wonderful.

Review 53:Awesome place - very nice staff, pet friendly, comfy bed, decent towels, good area, nice owners. Restaurant changed to a dinner place. A little overpriced, but we enjoyed it.

Review 54:The only thing that I didn't care for was the how the shower went from just right to really really hot to cold. But did make the desk clerk aware of this problem.

Review 55:The setting, easy to find. Professionalism

Review 56:We were in one of the "interior" rooms. We had to go through a small door inside the laundry room to get to it and couldn't even find the door; the desk clerk had to show us where it was. It felt claustrophobic and we were really disappointed because the place had looked charming online. Probably would have liked the place if we'd had a room that opened to the outside.

Review 57:The place was clean and the room itself was comfortable. The owner and desk clerk were really nice.

Review 58:The adjacent restaurant was overpriced and meals were not very good. Complained but no adjustment made. They ruined the walleye dinner by planking it as if it were salmon and then drowned it in too many herbs.

Review 59:Friendly staff, good location. They even made choc chip cookies for us when we used the dinning room in the evening to play cards. Owner is on site which is a plus.

Review 60:Breakfast was not quite up to par. The fruit served seemed like it had been frozen had no individual flavors. There was no plain cream available, only flavored and the furniture in the breakfast area was very uncomfortable. We only had breakfast there one of the two days stayed.

Review 61:The accommodations were wonderful-we had traveled quite a long day and were greeted by charming staff and a comfortable clean room.

Review 62:Regulating water temperature in the shower was tricky. It seemed to change from hot to cold with no warning.

Review 63:Location to sights visited was perfect. Loved the small hotel feel with immediate out the door nature landscape.greeting you.

Review 64:Close to everything. Clean rooms, excellent staff, grounds were well kept. Great family run facility - which I enjoy over the Comfort Inns, Holiday Inns and all the other major motels. A lot of personal touch to make you feel at home.

Review 65:The bathrooms are old and need updating. There was black mold in the corners on the floor in the bathroom. The breakfast could have better choices and the eating area for the breakfast was small considering the hotel was full.

Review 66:The location and staff were great!

Review 67:Rooms could use some updating. Seating area for breakfast very crowded, serving area very close and crowded.

Review 68:Rooms always clean and staff very friendly

Review 69:Room was a little small for our tastes - but, we planned this roadtrip very last minute and were ultimately pleasantly surprised by the graciousness of the staff.

Review 70:Very quiet!

Review 71:Mainly the breakfast

Review 72:Everything was very nice beds were a little hard and the breakfast was not what i expected but room very nice and clean a very nice property beautiful pools friendly staff and fresh cookies everyday nice restaurant on ptoperty

Review 73:The breakfast was just o'kay and could have had more choices. The room was good but the bathroom needs updating and there was black mold in areas of the corners in the bathroom. The area for eating breakfast was to small as the Inn was full.

Review 74:The location and staff were very good.

Review 75:The bed was just too soft and tilted toward the head board, very uncomfortable. Breakfast needs improving.

Review 76:The grounds were wonderfully looked after, great gardener.

Review 77:Property is slightly off beaten path and a bit dated. But charming.

Review 78:The staff did a lot of little things to encourage the traveller - free washing powder and dryer sheets for laundry, rubber ducky, interesting breakfast arrangements. The property is a bit dated but they were inviting.

Review 79:I loved the cookie hour and the coffee or milk available in the afternoon at the office. It was a nice touch. Just outside our room was a table and chairs with a view of a pine grove that made a wonderful place to get some fresh air and relax. It made for a very enjoyable evening. Thank you.

Review 80:Not really a bad thing, but we found the beds a little hard. However the room was always clean and the restrooms/showers were very clean as well.

Review 81:What a wonderful home away from home. The staff is absolutely wonderful; very helpful, always trying to please. The location is perfect for anyone wishing to experience Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse or any of the other wonderful attractions in SW South Dakota!

Review 82:Breakfast was pretty simple........cereal, donuts, muffins, yogurt, pancakes........kids were disappointed there were no eggs and sausage, but still a good variety

Review 83:Friendly, helpful staff, clean rooms, nothing fancy but I would stay there again

Review 84:The grounds were really sweet. It is convenient to get to Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore. The town of Custer is nice and there are quite a few things locally for families to do. We had a great stay. The hotel was clean and again, very convenient for our needs.

Review 85:When we returned to our room the second night we stayed, our room was unlocked after maid service. There was no maid service after that time.

Review 86:Loved the whirlpool tub in our room.

Review 87:Hotel and grounds were beautiful. We were just in Germany in June and it was very reminiscent of our hotel in the Black Forest. The restaurant went above and beyond for us and our dogs and set up a table for us on the front deck for a late even drink and dessert.

Review 88:The staff at the front desk were all so friendly. The woman at check in gave us good ideas of things to see other than Mt Rushmore only. She also gave us directions.

Review 89:Gorgeous modern room, clean, spacious and bright. We're a family of hotel snobs as my husband works for a hotel company so we had low expectations from a small town hotel, but this place stacks up with the best of them.

Review 90:Great location; comfortable place. We had planned to stay in a cabin in Custer State Park but we were disappointed with it. We moved here for our 4 nights and were so glad we did!

Review 91:A minor point but the seats in the breakfast lounge were uncomfortable.

Review 92:Very helpful staff. Very clean. Both pools and grounds were well maintained. Although not required by us they even had plug ins for hybrid and Tesla cars.

Review 93:Unfortunately the breakfast was pretty basic for a continental.

Review 94:Great hotel in a super location for exploring the local area and with a fab restaurant adjacent. They currently give residents a free drink which is a nice touch. A dog was constantly barking in the adjacent room to us on check in but the receptionist swapped us over without any issues. The twin Queens are much bigger than the single Queens.

Review 95:Thought the facilities were dated and the advertised customer ratings were generous. Would not stay again or recommend to others.

Review 96:Custer is a nice location.

Review 97:Hotel gives you token for a free drink at "On the Rocks" restaurant. Go for the free drink, forget the food.

Review 98:Good location, clean rooms and friendly staff.

Review 99:The shower would be cold then hot then cold then hot.... Didn't matter what time of day it was.

Review 100:We loved the home feeling. When we pulled up the kids were like we are staying HERE. Once you got out and looked around it is a very nice place to stay. Sometimes people get use to places that seem more convenient. This was more down home and better then any other place we have stayed.

Review 101:The breakfast was really awful. You'd do better by giving breakfast recommendations for elsewhere. The breakfast detracts from an otherwise very pleasant experience. I also never got a receipt because the desk person couldn't get the computer to come up.

Review 102:Very nice location and friendly staff at the desk. Simple clean rooms, quiet and far enough from main street to give a little bit of extra quiet

Review 103:Our room was old. The sink and vanity were beside the bed and not in the bathroom which I found very weird. Our friends were in a better room where the sink was not right beside the bed.

Review 104:Sitting around the pool in the evening and watching the deer.

Review 105:The hot tub was to hot the first night. The staff person who was on seemed barely interested and made minimal effort to check it.

Review 106:Beds were very comfortable. Location is great.

Review 107:Location was convenient for our last minute booking. They confirmed with us due to our late arrival. Nice staff! Cool looking place and we were very happy to visit the adjoining restaurant for dinner.

Review 108:Not sure if the restaurant next door is part of the facility or not. Advertised that it had German food to offer, but I found none on the menu. Prices were a bit on the high side for my taste

Review 109:Good overall facilities. Choice of outdoor pool or indoor pool with spa. Laundry facility did not overcharge for the machines, and provided laundry detergent and softener. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great location.

Review 110:Even though the hotel is right on the highway, we had no highway noise at all and the room , (even though it's an old hotel) was very clean and the bed was very comfortable! Staff is wonderful!

Review 111:The shower in the suite could not be regulated to a temp and would turn hot or cold. Staff was aware of problem and said it couldn't be fixed. The tub was slick. We were there four days, but showered only once. There was only a couch/bed to sit on. No chairs.

Review 112:Desk staff was very helpful.

Review 113:Even though we paid for our stay in cash upon arrival our credit card we used to hold our reservation was charged twice by night staff that appeared confused. It took numerous days to fix the problem which is very inconvenient when your vacationing. Also the service that booked the room and the hotel didn't appear to communicate well. Accommodations we had asked for were not made.

Review 114:Nice hotel that had extra comforts.Assistant manager quickly looked into billing issue and attempted to fix it quickly. She was very friendly and efficient.

Review 115:the stay was not long enough :(

Review 116:very quiet and just out of town easy to get out of even though they are on a busy road. good Restaurant onsite. in door as well as out door pool

Review 117:The owners were warm, friendly and wonderful. They were most helpful especially regarding a part of our planned trip, which we discovered after discussions with Marcell had been ill advised.

Review 118:Several staff members are young ladies from Bulgaria on an exchange program, very knowledgeable,, friendly , hard workers. The rooms are nice, breakfast fast and good, and the two pools are just beautiful.

Review 119:I didn't like that there were no 100% cotton sheets even though I had sent a request ahead of time. There weren't enough healthy choices for breakfast.

Review 120:Cleanliness and location were great as was the outdoor pool. Towels were handy. Had a certain charm. (Loved all the flowers.) Families all looked like they were having fun at the various activities available.

Review 121:Great big room , very updated and sleek. Breakfast was generous and varied. Electric car connections on site; hot cookies and milk or coffee every afternoon! Beautiful pools and grounds to sit quietly and relax.. Even a laundry on site! They have thought of everything! Great staff and a great little area to visit! Go, you'll love this hotel!

Review 122:The room that we were in had horrible Internet Wi-Fi. My Wi-Fi would come in in one minute and later go out and then I would have to search for the signal again to reestablish it. I eventually gave up.

Review 123:Good location and nice place. They let me cancel one night for no additional fee. I had to cancel not because we didn't like the place but we had a far way to travel the next day. My sons actually begged me to stay.

Review 124:Breakfast was not the best, the "fresh fruit was not very fresh. Miniature powder donuts and canned OJ.

Review 125:Location, price, the room was nice and spacious.

Review 126:Terrible breakfast options. Worst I have ever seen. Plus guests smoking right outside that area that reeked it up

Review 127:Very comfortable bed plus greAt location

Review 128:Super clean nice size room. The rooms had been recently updated. Our room was located right by the pool, it was very quiet and peaceful. Nice distance from all the main traffic, but just minutes to to down town Custer.

Review 129:get double curtains, one for blackout, the other sheer to let light in, like all other motel/hotels. Room is dark brown with no pictures, dark! Time to upgrade bathrooms.

Review 130:homey place, nice staff, good location and price we had a nice stay
