Reviews for Hotel Regina
Review 1:This hotel has an air of faded-glory about it. We were in the Picasso Room which although overlooked the main square was jaded and tired looking. Breakfast was very basic.
Review 2:Ideally located on the main square and a short walking distance to Menin Gate. Friendly staff.
Review 3:Everything shut including the hotel bar !!! Had to wait a long time for reception 1st room not good at all water all over the place but we were moved.
Review 4:Fairytale town lovely location
Review 5:Sadly the hotel chef was in hospital over New Year and Ypres centre was completely closed down New Year's Eve so we couldn't get an evening meal or any food anywhere, so my complaint was against the town council rather than the hotel.
Review 6:Staff excellent and although the property is old it was very adequate, attractive and central.
Review 7:Room needed updating and was advised they were all going to be updated in 2016
Review 8:Location and the staff are really nice. Loads of character in this hotel
Review 9:Heat full blast all night and no means of turning it off. Very noisy. Room carpet filthy. Did not sleep at all
Review 10:Best welcoming receptionist manager ever. Very helpful. Reimbursed 50% to compensate for dreadful room
Review 11:The location was great, right in the square surrounded by shops and cafes. Walking distance to the Menin Gate. The hotel owners went out of their way to help us. We were after hire bikes and due to the season and holidays they weren't so easy to get, the owners got them for us. Walking distance from the station, breakfast was included in rate. Good size room.
Review 12:Did not do Christmas dinner and maybe a little more Christmas tinsel around
Review 13:The staff is very friendly and helpful we were their for Christmas the only down side no Christmas dinner but plenty of restaurants around
Review 14:The hotel is perfectly located in the main square and there is outside public parking.. If you don't want to eat in the restaurant there are plenty of other bars and restaurants in close proximity. Management very welcoming and helpful
Review 15:The receptionist did not advise us that the lights on the staircase hadto be switched on using the light switches situated at various pointsalong the corridor and stairwell. These looked innocuous (once they hadbeen pointed out to us) and we thought that the only one we noticed wasa doorbell for the room next door to ours. As a consequence my wife felldown a flight of stairs that was in darkness suffering painful injuriesand bruising to her hand. The hotel owner was very apologetic for theincident. Maybe motion sensitive lighting could be added, or thereceptionist advise people or putting a sign "light switch" byeach light switch
Review 16:The location of the hotel is perfect for the Market Square, the FlandersField museum and the Menin Gate. The hotel owner and staff were veryfriendly albeit the reception staff were often missing. Breakfast wasgood but not over exciting. Our room overlooked the Market Square asrequested, the room was spacious but the central heating pipes wereunder the floorboards making the room very hot. We had to have thewindows open to cool the room down during the night but there was agreat deal of traffic noise to deal with. A lovely view came with adownside. The interior of the hotel is very dark and unappealing, uncarpeted stairs.
Review 17:The only down side is the hotel was too close to the main road/town square so the traffic noise 1st thing in morning was a tad loud.
Review 18:Hotel was central to all the main town attractions and facilities. The staff were very friendly and all spoke English.
Review 19:The only bad experience is when we had to leave, as we always enjoy ourselves so much.
Review 20:Large room with separate bedroom and bathroom, absolutely brilliant.
Review 21:The toilets were not clean and needed a good scrub with bleach! It had not been explained beforehand that the location of the car park was a good 10 minute walk away We were surprised at the lack of food left at breakfast although we were well within the time for service and the staff were hard to locate.
Review 22:The hotel location could not have been better. The reception staff were also good.
Review 23:bedrooms a bit dated and tired. Fancy coffee pod machine in room had no instructions and when the front was opened was very dusty inside.
Review 24:location was excellent for Menin Gate, Flanders field museum, shops, restaurants and bars. Reception and breakfast staff very polite and helpful.
Review 25:The room was dark, dirty ( found someone's dirty underwear in the room) extremely poor drainage in bathroom, room flooded when you had a shower
Review 26:We were supposedly upgraded to thier sister hotel
Review 27:The rooms were really old. And the fixtures and fittings (The ones that weren't missing from the walls) seem shoddily put up. The lovely lime green walls were erm lovely, and went well with the wooden ceilings and 2 random lighting units that would look more fitting in a garage workshop than a hotel room. The curtains look like they were bought from a cheap thrift shop and only to cover up the half hanging single net curtain, the other 2 were missing, Somewhere.? Maybe? The windows opened with plenty of wiggling the handles with some added frustration. The lights above the bed look like a 5 year old used some left over blutac to hold them to the walls, when they were moved you got some lovely sparkles from behind the unit. The beds both singles, were awful. the mattress was slightly bigger than the base so they tended to tilt a little when you moved about on your bed. ( Plus make sure they have built the beds properly otherwise you will end up on the floor ) the carpet under the bed... Not sure when this was last hoovered but there was a nice layer of dust. The mysterious red marked on the floor looking nothing more than the use of a fine aged bleach. After all the crimes against interior and safety in the bedroom I move swiftly into the bathroom. Now this room was fully white tiled. With a good sized bath and a shower head against the wall. ( About the right height for a child so perhaps they had one fit this too) it would have been far more appropriate the have the shower head fitted above the height of a grown adult as after all this was a shower / bath. The tiles were a lovely shade of off white and cracked in various places. The sink unit seems to have been torn off and vanished. There is some evidence of what may have been a towel rack bedside the bath / kids shower as some broken brackets still screwed into the delightful tiles were still there.
Review 28:The view and location
Review 29:Fantastic location and value for money. We were given one of the renovated rooms which was very nice but because of the minimalist approach it felt a bit cold I think a headboard would help as in due course the wall will get dirty and could be a bit off - putting also the front door screamed like a banshee at night when it scraped along the tiles. Apart from that we had a great time.
Review 30:The viw from our frontfacing room was amazing, though the room itself needs some updating and warmth,
Review 31:location could not be better, right facing the Cloth Hall and parking was a breeze.. Bar staff anf breakfast lasy where excellent, efficient and welcoming.
Review 32:The hotel Cleaners let the all the hotel staff down and the hotel i feel that they where very lazy and took no pride in their work its a real shame because other than having to complain on several occasions we had a very lovely stay at The Regina Hotel and we would definitely stay there again.
Review 33:The staff where mostly very good apart from one very nice young lady who went out of her way to be very very helpful and she was also well spoken and a pleasant attitude but we don't. know her name
Review 34:Overall cleanliness was fine just needed to hoover under bed and on chair.
Review 35:Great value for money and in a great location. Friendly and helpful staff with lots of local information. Nice spread of continental breakfast and evening meal in resturant was lovely.
Review 36:Some of the decor was a bit tired and dated, though I understand the current owners are in the process of upgrading
Review 37:The staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The breakfast was absolutely amazing and wow, the evening meals were AWESOME.
Review 38:Superb hotel. Excellent refurbished rooms to high standard, really nice owners and staff, good bar and food, excellent brekkie. The absolute best location. Opposite the Flanders museum, same street as the Menin gate, and on the main square. Faultless.
Review 39:The hotel is old and therefore the rooms are very basic.however they are to undergo major renovations in January 2016 which will modernise both the rooms and the restaurant
Review 40:The staff are excellent, very welcoming and helpful. The restaurant has superb food, all ingredients sourced locally.we really enjoyed our stay. We highly recommend hotel regina
Review 41:The room was excellent. Staff friendly and welcoming, without being over familiar. The choice at breakfast was impressive. We will definitely be staying again.
Review 42:We were very disappointed - our booking was at Hotel Regina. We arrived at about 2.15pm - sign at Reception said Check-in 1400-2000. We waited well over 1/2hour for any reception personnel to arrive. Other staff were aware that we and another couple were waiting but didn't seem overly concerned or interested . When receptionist arrived she informed us that her colleague at their sister hotel around the corner was sick and she was covering both venues. We were then "upgraded" to an apartment in next street. This had extremely narrow steep stairs with no locking or toilet facilities for additional 2 rooms upstairs Not an enjoyable stay !
Review 43:Room 40 - no experience of other rooms. All pervading smell of drains Bathroom - barely adequate No lift
Review 44:Bar/restaurant very good Staff good Location - could not be better
Review 45:Although I did'nt use it .The car park was along way away. Also no option for a hot breakfast.
Review 46:Location great.Staff both friendly and helpful.good wifi.
Review 47:We didn't actually get to stay at the Regina, a 2 star hotel, as, on arrival we were informed we had been upgraded [I gather possibly due to over booking] the upgrade been into their sister hotel, Hotel O, a 3 star !!, along in the next street. The hotel theme being "the Trenches" all done out, rooms and "Canteen" in Army surplus gear. Which was ok but things went down hill from there.
Review 48:A very, very warm welcome by the owners and staff who are passionately focused on delivering exceptional customer service.this combined with a the excellent location, fantastic restaurant /bar,and warm comfortable surroundings ,make this the hotel to come back to
Review 49:Bath not shower. Grubby curtains. Bad lighting on the many staircases - use the lift.
Review 50:Centrally located in busy Ypres, ideal for the historical events. Excellent food and beer, with a friendly knowledgeable patron and staff. The finest steak I've had this year, from a Belgian Blue. The hotel accommodation is jaded, but mostly clean. Useful lift.
Review 51:I'm looking forward to the renovation being completed.
Review 52:The location and the helpfulness of the owners/staff was excellent The restaurant is modern and comfortable
Review 53:We received an upgrade to an apartment but it was not in the hotel and was not equipped as an apartment. Housekeeping did not work on Monday we were told so the apartment was not serviced.
Review 54:The sliding doors into the lobby have a mind of their own and sometimes you have to stand waving your arms around to get them to open. To be honest , I found it funny rather then an inconvenience so it's an observation rather than a complaint.
Review 55:The Hotel could hardly be located better. I found the staff to be friendly and informative - always willing to help. My single room was quite plain but comfortable and warm. Cleanliness was excellent. English TV channels and Wi Fi everywhere. A good breakfast too. It's an old building and the stairs might be a bit quirky for some folks - but the lift is there if you need it.
Review 56:They changed my booking, without my consent, and sent me to Hotel O which is a dreary, barracks like hole. We had booked Regina specially, having stayed before. Hotel O was like being 'upgraded' from from Belgium to North Korea.
Review 57:The hotel was just job.But the location is the key to staying there. You are opposite Flanders Field Museum and only five minutes from the Menin Gate. You also have a selection of good eating and drinking places a short distance away.Easy to get back to at the end of an evening.
Review 58:Bed bugs! We discovered bed bugs on the morning of our departure. The whole bed was infested! I emailed the hotel on my return but have still not received a reply. I had over 150 bites on my hands, arms and face!
Review 59:The location.
Review 60:Breakfast waitress was held up in traffic, Not her fault. But duty staff member couldn't care less and was very rude. Would not be put off by her attitude and would certainly go again.
Review 61:General feeling of the hotel. Friendly staff. Excellent dinner in bar/restaurant. Liked the "shabby chic" style. Lovely bed linen.
Review 62:The staff at the hotel were very welcoming and helpful. This hotel has the best position in Ypres, directly opposite the museum in the main square and a short 5 minute walk up to the Menin Gate. The accomodation was really comfy and the breakfasts were superb.
Review 63:Why put a smoking choice for rooms in the online booking centre, when they are all No Smoking rooms (Smokers beware). The car park on site is at least a 6 minute walk away it is not on site, therefore quite disappointed with these two points. Food in the evening, very expensive, 30 Euros for a small helping of Sole and Potatoes
Review 64:The Staff were all 100% helpful
Review 65:Rooms 12, 13 and 14 were `tired' and suffered from four power cuts each morning while we tried to have a shower, shave and get dressed. On both days the power was off to our rooms when we woke up about 7am. The carpet in Room 14 was stained by bleach in numerous places and also hadn't been cleaned well (we found an open packet of Doritos in a bedside drawer). Room 13 had `grey water' from another room come up their shower outlet on one occasion! .
Review 66:Kris and the staff were excellent. Very friendly and gave impartial advice about where to shop, and even told us the best places to eat if we didn't have dinner in the hotel. The location opposite the Cloth Hall in the centre of town (400 yards from Menin Gate) is unbeatable. Plenty of hot water in rooms and excellent Continental Breakfast in the restaurant.
Review 67:Hotel is being updated, which is necessary. Stairwell is very tired and poorly decorated. Public areas, except restaurant, need attention. Visit in 2 years and it could be perfect.
Review 68:Excellent location and bright, renovated spacious bedroom with big, well equipped bathroom but needs ledge in shower for toiletries. Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 69:Had to wait at Reception to book in as they were at their other hotel! As I had booked 2 rooms for our friends as well as ourselves, they charged both rooms to my credit card the day before we arrived. This then had to be refunded and repaid!
Review 70:Lovely historic building overlooking the Market Square which is beautiful.
Review 71:We stayed for two breakfasts, and unfortunately it was very chaotic with very little choice
Review 72:Owner and staff were very friendly and welcoming, lovely atmosphere, also very helpful
Review 73:The lift was held up by the linen company for a period of time, necessitating that my 80-year-old companion had to walk to the third floor. I realize these things are necessary, but inconvenient when caught.
Review 74:Very attentive staff. Kris and his wife (her name escapes me), Arnold, et al.
Review 75:Nothing
Review 76:Truly fantastic location, opposite The Cloth Hall. Try to get a window at the front. Quirky decor adds to the charm. They have just opened a high end restaurant on site.
Review 77:All good really. Electric lighting in rooms is a bit amateurish.
Review 78:Central location. Hotel was presumably part of the post WW1 rebuild and has lots of atmosphere, a bit quirky. It is just a few minutes walk from the Menen gate.
Review 79:My first room (15) was awful. No natural light, room very brightly lit with overhead light. No fresh air either. Bad first impression.
Review 80:After my room was changed everything was fine. Staff very helpful. Breakfast adequate and location excellent.
Review 81:On arrival at Regina we were told we had been upgraded to Hotel 'O', well if that was an upgrade I hate think what the Regina is like, the room was like a dungeon dark and dismal, quite depressing in fact. Water pressure in the bathroom was so low it took nearly 30 seconds to fill a small cup and the shower was almost as bad. At breakfast I had to go through at least a dozen plates until I found one clean enough to eat off and then had to sit at a table that was covered in plates, cups and rubbish from previous customers breakfasts, no attempt was made to clean this up.
Review 82:The receptionist at Hotel Regina was very understanding regarding my complaint. Hotel Regina itself looked very clean and I only wish we hadn't been given a so called upgrade. We didn't ask for it.
Review 83:Shabby hallways, fridge didn't work even after telling reception. No coffee for coffee machine, told there wasn't any. Cleaning could be improved.
Review 84:Excellent location. Had refurbished room with very comfortable bed. Adequate breakfast, attractive bar and restaurant area.
Review 85:The first night we had a small sub standard room on the third floor facing a a wall shaft. There was no r Door on the bathroom ,just a pull curtain. If that had been our only room we would have been very disappointed for sure.
Review 86:A room facing the town square was excellent in all ways. The breakfasts were lovely and the service folks were very nice. The He lobby staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 87:Staff was overwhelmed at breakfast and was irritated at management. Diners were thus poorly served because sister hotel guests where shuttled to our place. Food was average at best.
Review 88:Comfortable, great location
Review 89:The rooms could be kept in a better condition. The main light didn't work, there was water damage on the bathroom wall and an awful smell emanating from the bathroom.
Review 90:Location of the hotel, everything is within walking distance.
Review 91:There wasn't anything I could fault
Review 92:We were made so very welcome by the staff and owners. We had a beautiful meal in the restaurant and fabulous breakfast every morning with as much coffee and trash Orange as you could drink. Our rooms were very comfortable in deed and we will be going back next year without fail.
Review 93:The view from the window facing the square brought much enjoyable entertainment. Within walking distance of all places we wanted to visit. Having a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities was much appreciated.
Review 94:Nothing.
Review 95:I've stayed here before so know that although the accommodation is basic it offers excellent value for money and the breakfast is also excellent. Staff are very friendly but still efficient and spoke very good English which is essential for me as i'm almost mono-lingual. I will definitely visit again.
Review 96:Dirty rooms, curtains filthy hanging of pole, big radiator between bedroom and bathroom, so door could not shut, toilet door, toilet dirty, already changed room as it stunk of cigarettes. There were 10 of us, 6 of others had very nice rooms, a pair of dirty knickers were found in the other dirty room, as a genius member I expect much more.
Review 97:Breakfast
Review 98:Car parking quite a way away so easier to park on street.
Review 99:Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice bar and restaurant attached although food was a little nouvelle quisine for my tastes. Excellent location. Room facilities very good; coffee & kettle and big room.
Review 100:We were in a newly-refurbished room that was very comfortable. Although it was a few minutes' walk from the hotel, and paid for separately, secure parking was welcome. The town centre location was ideal for us.
Review 101:I had the feeling the hotel was understaffed. We had to wait to be helpen at the reception since the receptionist was busy elsewhere. But when they were around they were friendly and helpful.
Review 102:The location is ideal. It is in the centre of Ieper on the main square. The train station and most places to visit are 5 to 10 minutes walk away. It is in an old building but the room we stayed in had just been renovated and was very luxurious and comfortable. There are even tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
Review 103:The first omen was when, in the queue to check in at reception, I heard guests in front of me being told that they had booked 'comfortable rooms'. I had wrongly assumed that all rooms would be comfortable by default. Some of the guests were being told that the hotel was full and that the rooms they had booked were out of action (owing to soiling by guests) and rooms in other hotels had been arranged for them or that they would be staying in nearby slef-contained apartments owned by the hotel. When I got to my double room (single occupation) on the first floor via a lift and somewhat shabby landing/corridor, I found that there was little natural light (the window had no outside view) and that the electric lighting consisted of two fluorescent, energy-saving bulbs in the middle of the ceiling directly above the bed. The walls of the room were painted brilliant white and the carpet was dark brown in colour. There were discolourations on both. It was difficult to watch television with the light on because of the reflections. On arrival, I made a cup of tea. The milk sachets contained curdled milk and bore the date ‘April 2014’ (16 months out of date). I complained and these were replaced immediately with ones which were in-date.On going to bed, I discovered that one of the pair of window curtains was missing so that it was impossible to block out the light from 'outside'. Also, my window was at the bottom of a 3 or 4 storey light and faced the window adjacent to the lift on the landing so anyone passing when the light was on would be able to see, through the net curtain, the silhouette of my naked body as I entered and exited the bathroom. I complained but nothing was done during my two night stay.As there was no air conditioning, I had to struggle with the very stiff bolt on the window. I then discovered that, with the window open, it was impossible to close the sliding door of the en suite bathroom.
Review 104:The location was ideal and the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful.
Review 105:Lovely spacious room, clean, comfortable and in just about the most central location you can find. There is some on street parking close to the hotel but they also have parking a short walk away (book in advance direct with the hotel, it was 10 euros a night). Very friendly staff who always tried to accommodate any requests.
Review 106:My only request is re the inRoom fridge. It only works if the room card is inserted. We had items to be kept cold but ended up putting them in the hotel kitchens fridge. No problem. Perhaps the refrigerator could be a request and be running on arrival if needed to ensure cold.
Review 107:The location is excellent and facilities are great. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
Review 108:One bar waiter seemed to think customers were there to disturb his day. Unfortunate - as he was the reason we did not use the restaurant. Renovations were still going on which caused a little disturbance but the results are worth the disruption. We had one renovated and one unrenovated room. The generator running all the time did disturb us somewhat. People who in other reviews have complained about the dark stairwell should have turned the light on.
Review 109:Friendliness and helpfulness of the majority of the staff, and indeed the other guests. We were a party of 3 people plus 3 dogs and found all everyone helpful with one exception.
Review 110:Apartment not totally suitable - narrow steep stairs, bedroom TV cable not long enough to plug in and not connected to service provider. No pots or pans for cooking (despite staff suggesting we could cook ourselves dinner if we felt inclined). Apartment not serviced every day. Seems it was hastily organised as hotel appeared to have overbooked - talking to other guests and staff.
Review 111:Upgraded to an apartment as apparently there was a plumbing issue created by previous occupants of our allocated room
Review 112:Decor is a bit depressing. Fridge in dining room seemed to be warm inside
Review 113:lovely bread at breakfast, efficient staff, nice to have a fridge in room to cool my water and keep chocolate in!
Review 114:Sparse storage facilities in the room, but otherwise no concerns or complaints.
Review 115:Excellent location, and we were "upgraded" to one of the newly renovated rooms. Both bedroom and bathroom were very spacious. The young staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. Lovely dinner in the restaurant too.
Review 116:The cups for coffee/tea were too small, and the milk was not suitable for tea. The tea/coffee supplies were not replenished over my 2-day stay. In the bathroom, there was no place to put shower gel/soap in the shower area, and the wash basin was a very silly and impractical sharpe.
Review 117:The bathroom was very luxurious.
Review 118:The location was as central as one could want, very convenient for all amenities and right opposite the Cloth Hall. The staff were very helpful in accommodating our bicycles and I would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone wishing to stay in the centre of Ypres.
Review 119:Fab hotel, staff very friendly and go out of there way to make sure you are happy. We have revisited for the second time and probably many more visits to come.
Review 120:At check in we were told we could charge our dinner in the hotel restaurant to our room. But the waiter had major problems trying to do this (with our American Visa, no chip card). Finally after much waiting he made it happen. Upon checkout the staff member wondered why he didn't just write a note on our bill. We wondered the same thing.
Review 121:The proximity to the sites was amazing! The hotel check in staff was great!
Review 122:Parking was secure but was located the other side of the Mein gate, if you were in a wheelchair or had walking difficulties it may be a problem. Check in and check out was also very long drawn.
Review 123:Lovely veiw of the center of Ypre
Review 124:The staff were very accommodating and so friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely book to stay again at Hotel Regina. It was clean, comfortable and breakfast was varied. Very impressed and with young children the staff made us all feel very welcome.
Review 125:there was a slight smell as you came up the stairs, and lift was not working
Review 126:the rooms modern and old, the bed, the breakfast and location and for ten euros you can have private car parking
Review 127:Needs TLC in the bedrooms, cracked tiles and needs a good coat of paint. Kids got very basic put up beds (ok for 2 nights)
Review 128:Great location, helpful staff, Huge room with comfy bed (main). Public areas lovely. Super breakfast included. Secure parking albeit a 10 minute walk.
Review 129:The hotel room was a bit too warm, there wasn't a view (I was in room 39), just the other wall near the elevator.
Review 130:The staff were lovely and very helpful. The rooms were cleaned everyday to a good standard. Breakfast was nice.
Review 131:We stayed in a room which was in need of refurbishment. Electric sockets looked a bit dodgy. Couldn't use shower, as no shower curtain. Took half an hour to fill the bath, as the water pressure was low. Shower gel/shampoo dispensers were empty. Uncomfortable bed.
Review 132:The location, which was opposite Flanders Field Museum on the Main Square. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Fridge in the room.
The Fine Print
