Reviews for Rock Reef Resort

Review 1:One sachet of coffee per stay, no replacement. No mini breakfast or coffee similar to nearby resorts we have stayed at.

Review 2:The grounds to the sea, swimming pool area and barbeque area were lovely

Review 3:We were looking for a nice stay near Homestead so we could attend final NASCAR races. This location - perfect for getting out of event traffic. Owners devout in keeping property updated while maintaining the island's nostalgic feel.

Review 4:Really a tiny room, with tiny bathroom. I wasn't expecting too much for the price but the sparseness of the room really did surprise me (and I've stayed at Motel 6's before). And the only channel on TV showing the baseball World Series was in Spanish, for some reason.

Review 5:Good location right off the Overseas Highway with fair pricing and not too far from restaurants and attractions. Also a lovely beachfront overlooking Florida Bay. Wish I could have taken advantage of the free kayak rental.

Review 6:Rather noisy at the weekend with all the children.Rea

Review 7:Right on waters edge, with good bar and restaurant within easy walking distance. Excellent sized room which had a full kitchen.

Review 8:The only think I personally didn't like was the disrupting noise that the bathroom light makes when it is on; it really bothered me.

Review 9:Our family experience in your place was very pleasant.

Review 10:The room was extremely musty mold was growing the air conditioner was on wall by ceiling blowed all over whichever bed you were in had to make Drs appointment when I got home. Didn't stay whole night had to leave. Left at three in the morning

Review 11:Very tiny bathroom. Most of the bushes should be trimmed back so the entrance to the property and to the main office can be seen

Review 12:Very large room, very comfortable bed! Very clean. Pool was very pretty. Great views, and beach are. Very quiet and relaxing

Review 13:Fantastic location with wonderful views for the evening sunset. Also close to national parks for snorkelling and boat tours. Also liked the provision of free pedalos and kyaks.

Review 14:Needs to be updated overall. Trash from next door property was overwhelming in the parking lot. Expensive for the area, considering the amenities.

Review 15:Very clean , friendly staff, nice bedding.

Review 16:Closed the pool too early, no hot water for maybe half a day

Review 17:Ballyhoos right across a1a was awesome, Pennekamp park is only about 4 miles down the road

Review 18:The air conditioner came down directly on the bed....not a good idea. the bathroom was very small and it took a very long time for the hot water to come...I didn't think there was any!

Review 19:It was for only one night!!!!!

Review 20:Pool is only open during the day hours. Coffee pot on microwave and the cord wouldn't reach electrical outlet.

Review 21:Pool was all lit up and looked inviting

Review 22:Leaving!

Review 23:Very welcoming, clean rooms and a wonderful beach made our weekend most enjoyable. The location allows trips to Key West and Marathon easy to achieve for a day, and the sunsets with a margarita finish the day perfectly

Review 24:THE BED WAS NOT GOOD AND THE POOL WAS NOT HEATED. FURNITURE IN THE COTTAGE HONESTLY WAS NOT COMFORTABLE REALLY AT ALL.

Review 25:THE VIEW AND OUTSIDE GROUNDS WERE VERY NICE !!! THE COTTAGE WAS VERY CLEAN THAT'S IMPORTANT .

Review 26:Motel room and ensuite could do with an upgrade but I would stay again for 1 night when travelling between locations.

Review 27:Nice location to view sunset over the ocean. Saw dolphins as well. Friendly staff who allowed me to use dryer on a few items that were soaked during thunderstorms at key west when I left in the morning as I had to pack for return home. Met Bogie their pet parrot. One of the cheapest prices around for the Keys. Elsewhere it would be budget accommodation at a budget price. Clean and semi comfortable.

Review 28:Cottage had a musty smell. Only single kayaks and children had to be 16 to use them. Couldn't go out with my 12 and 14 year old kids.

Review 29:Loved the location. Loved the homey feel and staff was very friendly and accommodating. Beautiful sunsets on the bay.

Review 30:I don't like lizards. If you're a lizard lover, you will love this place! There are lots of varieties to see!

Review 31:The setting was lovely. The room was comfortable, well appointed, and very clean. The staff was great! Tameca Jensen recommended a wonderful restaurant for dinner. We needed to do our laundry, but didn't have time before closing hours. While we went to dinner, Tameca did our laundry for us! She is awesome!

Review 32:Not at all accommodating with a request for an hour-late check out. A bit noisy in our room facing the parking lot and highway.

Review 33:Nice patio and access to the water. We would have liked to stay longer and make use of the pool, watercraft and nice area to take a run.

Review 34:Decor tired.

Review 35:Handy stop off on the way to Key West. At the side of Highway 1. A few places to eat within walking distance. Hammocks, pedalos, kayaks, pool etc at rear which is peaceful, with views over the water.

Review 36:We loved the location. The access to the reef. Just being able to sit out on the beach and watch the sunset and sunrise while still being right outside your door! The staff was very friendly. We WILL be back

Review 37:Needed more space in bathroom for sitting your travel bathroom kit and a hook on back of bathroom door.

Review 38:Comfortable and clean room. Nice area to watch the sunset. Available paddle boat and kayaks. Pretty, well landscaped grounds.

Review 39:Considering whaT we have paid we can say that everything was totally fine, actually it exceed our expectations.

Review 40:The location is really nice & also the facilities (bbq, pool, etc.), we especially appreciate the cleanliness of the room and the courtesy of the Staff (Jerry, the Houskeepers and the blonde lady with the white and red dress with the roses).

Review 41:The sea here is nearer the Everglades mangroves so the sea really is filled with green vegetation & life - not great of you want to go for a swim & afraid you may step on something! But swimming pool was lovely....

Review 42:Great room for a short stay, great sunsets, great bed!!

Review 43:Outdoor furniture beautiful clean and comfortable as was thepool/pool area. But no umbrellas....

Review 44:Free amenities such as kayaking, paddle boat and wi-fi.

Review 45:Room was dark and small Littered beach area

Review 46:View from the beach and use of pedal boats and reasonable pool but would benefit from parasols Nice gardens especially flowers

Review 47:I liked everything! It's a nice, quiet place, with a nice room, we had #3.Conveniently located across the road from a good restaurant. They have a beautiful beach with awesome sunset!

Review 48:the room was very damp/humid, made it uncomfortable to sleep at night. Mold and mildew stains on lamp shades pictures and chair backs.

Review 49:The property was absolutely beautiful. Plenty of places to rest and relax.

Review 50:Our room (#15) had an odd, unpleasant smell - maybe because of a cleaning product, but it was similar to a urine odor. Also, the bathroom and the bathroom door need to be updated.

Review 51:The location, the beach, the flowers, the pool.

Review 52:The evening check-in staff was excellent; the folks at the desk in the morning were less attentive.

Review 53:We definitely would go back. It's not high end, but it's nice for what it is, and the price was the best I could find in that area. Nice water access, with chairs and hammocks and free kayak and pedal boat use. A great place to watch the sunset. Rock Reef recently added a pool, which looked very nice.

Review 54:No ice machine, The staff was nice enough to give us a couple of cups till our ice trays got frozen. Room needs updating.

Review 55:Had a nice dock to sit and watch the sunset.

Review 56:Nothing to dislike.

Review 57:Everything was perfect. The owners are genuinely interested in the guests and they have chosen excellent staff. We were 50 feet from the Bay and every day was so relaxing. Loved it, will be back.

Review 58:There was not much if any insulation between walls so we could hear everything going on in rooms above and next to us. The pool was only open until sundown. The bathroom was really small.

Review 59:The beauty of the surrounding. The staff was great! The room was clean and furnished nicely.

Review 60:The rooms were in serious need of a makeover. Smelled like an old cabin. The kind of place you keep your shoes on all the time ... Overpriced for what it was.

Review 61:The waterfront was beautiful. The pool was brand new.

Review 62:Leaving.

Review 63:Staff couldn't do enough to help us especially Tamica! Even after we checked out gave us access to facilities outside room showing us a bathroom we could use to freshen up before our journey home & ringing for bookings for us. The private beach and waters are beautiful staff told us where to steer the complimentary paddleboat to find manatees which we did just around the hotels sunset pier which has unspoilt views of a sunset which could rival the best worldwide!! Our room's kitchen was better equipped than most Michelin star restaurants. Thank you for a spectacular experience Rock Reef!!

Review 64:The room was very large and had a screened porch. Was great for a long stay. The bathroom was surprisingly small and cramped.

Review 65:The location has very pretty views. Close to many different restaurants and shopping. The pool, chaises, and hammocks were very nice. Offered sun and shade.

Review 66:Our room for two was huge, immaculate, and lovely. The 'backyard' was perfect for viewing the sunset. I would definately stay here again - loved room 22!!

Review 67:I thought it was overpriced for the quality of the room. This was probably a really nice hotel 20 years ago but the place needs to be updated if you are going to charge that much.

Review 68:The staff was outstanding. Very helpful and friendly. Cute parrot in the lobby. Nice to have access to paddle boats and kayaks as part of the cost of the room.

Review 69:The standard room was very dark and depressing and dated . Beds were poor, room was cramped. An improvement would be one decent bed instead of two poor ones. Bathroom needs an extractor. Despite microwave, it was impossible to make even a small hot snack and nowhere to eat.

Review 70:Perfect location, with private beach, hammocks, water based activities. Good, loungers and heated pool. Staff were very helpful.

Review 71:Room in the hotel was cramped with 2 double beds. Bathroom was small with no counter space. It was OK for just the one night.

Review 72:Beautiful dock and picnic area, the pool looked inviting. Would be a great place to spend a few days. We only had one night here and next time would rent a cabin and stay a few nights.

Review 73:Facility is a bit dated, except that the swimming pool is new, and they are obviously working on this facility.

Review 74:Helpful staff Very clean Very nice location

Review 75:there really isn't anything i don't like about rock reef.

Review 76:the room was clean very pretty loved the studio having all the kitchen utencils and appliances. love the staff and having the animals around.

Review 77:Road noise was unavoidable. The pool was under construction. The room stunk of cleaning supplies - like being trapped in a car with 100 of those hanging stink things

Review 78:The location on the west side of the key provided great sunsets and lounging.

Review 79:We didn't know the pool was drained and being repaired. Luckily, the weather wasn't warm enough to use it.

Review 80:The staff was very pleasant and friendly.

Review 81:The room was clean and spacious. It's a nice, quiet location. But the real star is their beach! At night you can watch the sun set over the horizon and it's just breathtaking. We even saw two dolphins swim by as the sun was setting. It felt magical. There are plenty of picnic tables and hammocks. It's the perfect place to relax!

Review 82:We in room #3 right next door to the office. Could hear the phone and people talking. The water pressure was not very strong.

Review 83:The staff were very nice. The location was great and the deck at the back of the property was beautiful to sit and look at the water.

Review 84:Not the greatest room - smelt slightly musty. Compared with other places we stayed not great value for money. Traffic noise from the overseas highway throughout the night.

Review 85:The area out the back with the little beach was great to enjoy the sunset (not surprised they use it in the photo). Restaurant across the road was good. Ok to stop over on the way to Key West.

Review 86:The coffee machine! Took so long to brew I gave up.

Review 87:The location. Missed the sunset but got there just after and the sky was ablaze. The owner - could not have been more helpful and put on lights in the garden so we could bbq The gardens - clean, well lit and loads of facilities - lovely The room. Spacious, very clean and very comfy bed

Review 88:The only thing is my bed was way too soft and I did not sleep real well. Wondered If the mattress needs to be turned over?

Review 89:Loved the room it was very clean and beautiful. Nicely decorated and pleasant!

Review 90:Had to turn off the A/C to sleep because it was blowing directly on both beds. Beds or A/C unit need to be moved.

Review 91:Location, beautiful grounds; new pool will be a great addition. Beds were comfy.

Review 92:Room was not near the water but was closer to the roadway which was noisy.

Review 93:Comfortable room Loved the shower Good location Close to Pennycamp State park

Review 94:Decoration of the room is a little bit old fashion. Remains expensive, but these are the rates in key largo

Review 95:Tropical gardens (palms, flowers, iguanas, birds...) lounge chairs, hammocks. Small, cute and clean private beach (without any seagrasses which is rare in thus area). Park place

Review 96:No pool.

Review 97:The grounds were relaxing and well maintained. Loved swinging in the hammocks. Enjoyed watching the sunset from the dock. Paddle boat available for use.

Review 98:First time entering the room it smelled like a gallon of bleach had been used. Coffee pot did not work.

Review 99:Great Location. Nice sun set viewing. Grounds are beautiful.

Review 100:The double beds were small for two of us and a little lumpy, but we managed and it was perfect for an overnighter!

Review 101:We loved how clean it was! It was updated and we were pleasantly surprised to find the back area with hammocks, and lounge chairs, and cottages! We stayed in a double room, and were so happy with it. We would totally stay again!!

Review 102:When I arrived I was immediately charged an extra $90 because I had more than one guest. Be careful with the staff because they won't tell you this until you arrive even though I listed five guests and called ahead of time. This is confusing to me because it was listed as a "Family" suite. There is no pool and no place for drinks or food on site. Also, be aware that there is no pool and only one bathroom in the "family" suite.

Review 103:A serene view of the bay was definitely a plus. This is true "Florida Keys" living and I don't think you'll be disappointed. We stayed for two nights and had a nice visit. The location is nice as it is near several hot spots for night life in the keys. I think we all enjoyed the peaceful, tranquil outdoors nearby.

Review 104:Nothing at all , great location

Review 105:Their service and attention were excellent. I am a germaphobic and this resort was very clean. They had a private beach and fishing area that was kept. Will be staying there again.

Review 106:Our economy room was in the front and just basic.

Review 107:The back of the property faces West and is right on the bay... Nice beach, shaded dock and Boatramp there. Awesome for sunset. Cottages number nine and 10 are situated exactly there.

Review 108:Where to start? The private beach, central location, friendly staff with spot on recommendations, the beautiful grounds. We loved our kitchenette. It was nice to have food handy. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in. We would definitely stay there again.

Review 109:Hard to find. The sign could have been better placed.

Review 110:Nice place, friendly staff.

Review 111:Only issue was we had hot water issues, it took forever to heat up.

Review 112:Everyone was very friendly and the room was excellent

Review 113:Good value. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent stop over on way to key West.

Review 114:the drive-way,to narrow for entry and exit at the same time, with traffic.

Review 115:cleanliness

Review 116:Shower in our room needs some TLC but no worse than our ymca.

Review 117:Location was ideal. Staff was courteous and helpful to these seniors.

Review 118:Very Clean and comfortable. Wonderful area to watch sunsets and relax. Not exceptionally busy area which is exactly what I wanted.

Review 119:The room had a moldy smell. No coffee packs for coffee pot.

Review 120:I loved the room. All in all it wss a great place. Cant beat the view of the water.

Review 121:Need a car to get to food places

Review 122:Had good beach access, with plenty of seating.

Review 123:Nothing

Review 124:We could sit out on their beach and watch the sun setting. Also kayaks , pelalos and othe craft were available to use.

Review 125:very nice place we will be back nice staff friendly people

Review 126:All thing

Review 127:N/A

Review 128:Great hammocks by the water for watching the sunset with your love and drinks.

Review 129:The room was excellent. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was wonderful!

Review 130:Beacharea

Review 131:1st room booked was small and dark. Upgrade was worth the extra money.

Review 132:Quiet grounds with beautiful pool and landscaping and iguanas!

Review 133:Unconfortable beds and small room

Review 134:Private beach and sightseeing at sunset

Review 135:Lovely place to relax, quieter end of Key Largo but with great restaurants nearby and very helpful staff. Loved the hammocks.
