Reviews for Desert Quail Inn

Review 1:When checking in, we were asked for an upgrade and we got a King Suite with a cozy fireplace for no additional costs. The room itself was large and clean.

Review 2:We were upgraded to a better suite, and the owner was very knowledgeable about restaurants, vortexes, directions etc. It was also about 50 steps from the Red Rock Cafe, which was a place we had highlighted for breakfast.

Review 3:Our room was very clean, the manager was friendly and suggested local restaurants we should try. Going to the Sedona area on our short trip to Arizona was very last minute, and finding a nice clean hotel like the Desert Quail was a pleasant suprise.Thought it should have been rated a 3 star instead of a 2 star.

Review 4:The room was large, comfortable bed, well appointed. Excellent TV and choices on DirecTV including HBO. Very convenient to Red Rock Cafe (excellent breakfast) and adjacent grocery store.

Review 5:nothing

Review 6:The room was very clean. I happened to mention we were there to go to dinner for my birthday and they upgrade us to a room with a gas fireplace.

Review 7:Very hospitable staff and owner, clean and large rooms and great scenic location just a little outside the traffic and tourist filled city - very peaceful.

Review 8:Wasn't anything I didn't like.

Review 9:The location is just perfect, with extremely easy access to all the local attractions. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 10:None

Review 11:The rooms were spotless and very comfortable. It is very near all the great hiking trails of Sedona. Great restaurants near by too. There is a cafe for breakfast steps away--and an IGA food market for foods, beer and wine! Great caring owner.

Review 12:Everything you need in a room; large room well decorated and all very clean. Good heating you could control. Kind and informative reception staff. Free wifi. Great view from some rooms of sandstone monoliths. No safe but reception said there was never any problem. Cafe next door for breakfast plus supermarket with good deli selection.

Review 13:Facility is clean, spacious, quiet, and close to restaurants and hiking trails. It is removed from the Sedona crowds. Nick was very helpful with recommendations. A bonus was the laundry faculty on site.

Review 14:N/A

Review 15:Location was perfect! And the room was amazing! We got a king room with spa tub and couldn't have asked for more. Front desk was very helpful and easy to work with.

Review 16:Located in the village of Oak Creek Canyon, it is 5 minutes south of Sedona proper, the property was clean, the people were nice, there was plenty to do within 2-3 minutes of the hotel, with Cathedral Rock less than 10 minutes away, and the price was great too.

Review 17:I'm from AZ and this was the first time my boyfriend went back home with me. The entire stay was wondferful and to top it off, I'm now engaged to marry my best friend. Desert Quail hands down is the best place to stay.

Review 18:Minor glitches with wifi and room keys not working. Were sorted out quickly. Owners/operators did not appear happy (no smiling) - just seemed to go through the paces. Yet they have a nice place and we expressed our happiness with it, so I expected they would respond positively.

Review 19:Very good Inn/Motel away from the bustle of Sedona, yet close to great hiking. Excellent Red Rock Cafe next door, plus IGA with good deli and specialty groceries we wanted. Room was ground level, so I was concerned about noise from above, but that did not happen

Review 20:Didn't like having the bathroom vanity area practically in the bedroom with a tiny separate bathroom. No privacy or being able to dress without waking everyone up. The bed was extremely firm and after four nights I don't think I could have slept in it one more night. We would not stay again because of the hard bed.

Review 21:It was a nice clean room in an excellent location.

Review 22:View, size of room, location within easy walking distance of good restaurants and grocery store. Fridge and Microwave. Heated pool. Good value in an expensive town.

Review 23:The only thing I didn't care for was when I asked the lobby clerk if he could get a message to a friend of ours, who was staying a few doors down from us in the same hotel. They were gone for the day, we were leaving, and we wanted to leave them a note at the lobby. I assumed that the clerk could leave a message on their hotel room phone telling them that they had a note to pickup at the lobby. Perhaps that was not possible or perhaps in the age of cell phones, no one ever inquiries about note writing anymore. In any event, the clerk looked completely confused and was less than helpful. He eventually offered up a Post-it-note and a pen and told us to just write a note and stick it on the outside of their hotel room door. I didn't feel comfortable doing that. Also, when asked for a recommendation for a good place to eat breakfast, we were told that the restaurant directly behind the hotel was a great place to eat. It wasn't. We ate there with another couple and it was far less than desirable in both service and food for all of us. I offer this critique here just in case the hotel and this restaurant are affiliated somehow.

Review 24:We liked that the location of this hotel was close enough to major attractions without being right in the middle of the busiest section of town. The room was very clean and incredibly quiet.

Review 25:Nothing... It was all great!

Review 26:Beautifully appointed motel in quieter area of Oak Creek Village. Value was incredible! We made reservations approx. 4 months in advance and paid 99. Per night for a spacious King sized room. Very quiet and very clean. Red Rock Cafe and IGA just behind the inn. Also great eating places within a couple blocks either direction. Outlet mall across the street. We would highly recommend this inn. Staff was extremely helpful too!

Review 27:7 miles is a little far from the center of Sedona, especially on a dark winding road. No local food places were open past 9. But the accommodations were very affordable for Sedona!

Review 28:Clean, comfortable and affordable...

Review 29:Nick at the Front Desk was very helpful in all aspects. Check-in was fast, offered up excellent places to eat. Gave us great tips on hiking locations and things to see in the area. A must see is the Sunset from Airport road in Sedona. The Red Rock Café is out the back side of the Desert Quail and is really worth it for breakfast (Blue Corn Rancheros were awesome)....recommended by Nick

Review 30:There was not anything to dislike about this hotel.

Review 31:The freiendly staff and the great location of this hotel made my first visit to Sedona easy and fun.

Review 32:Loved the room, large, very comfy bed. Very reasonably priced for Sedona, where most everything is not. Several great dining choices with in walking distance. Oak Creek is very walkable. desk staff was extremely helpful with suggestions for dinner.

Review 33:Located seven miles from Sedona center. This may be s plus.

Review 34:Place was very clean and comfortable. Staff was excellent. Located easy walking to restaurants, cafes, and supermarket. View superb.

Review 35:Large rooms. Was very happy to see that the facility was both smoke free and did not allow pets. Very comfortable stay. Only complaint- pool area a little small.

Review 36:No complaints; everything was just fine.

Review 37:In particular the lady who checked us in....very pleasant and answered all our questions. The cleaning staff also quite pleasant.

Review 38:Walking distance to several small cafes for breakfast. Walking distance to IGA store, Office man (owner?) upgraded our room without us asking and complementary when he found out we were celebrating a birthday. Walking distance to Cucina Rustica for dinner. Easy efficient check in. Nice chairs for tv watching, Barcalounger types for relaxing.

Review 39:Very convenient location with coffee houses and restaurants in walking distance. Also close to Bell Rock and Cathedral Rock. Just a short drive from downtown Sedona. Clean, modern facility.

Review 40:The mattress was a bit too firm for me.

Review 41:Very clean and spacious room. Very helpful staff. Very comfortable stay. Would stay there again. Very good value for the price, and liked the location...quiet area, near hiking and away from the bustle of the shopping areas of Sedona.

Review 42:The only down side was the toilet was loose.

Review 43:Check in was very easy. The woman who checked us in was friendly and suggested places to eat. Room was clean and had lots of space. Views of the red rocks were just steps away.

Review 44:We liked everything. We have nothing negative to report.

Review 45:From the moment of our first phone call to the Desert Quail Inn, we received superb customer service. The owner texted us detailed directions since we would be arriving late. Upon arrival, the very congenial and knowledgeable owner of the inn helped us select the perfect trail for some hiking we wanted to do the next morning. The pride of ownership truly showed in the cleanliness, comfort (great beds!), and convenience of the rooms. The inn has a pool, and all rooms have WiFi, TV, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, plenty of towels, and an efficient/quiet air conditioner. Also ironing board and hairdryer. I loved the quieter location (south of the main activity of Sedona) and better price than central Sedona lodging. Wonderful stay. We will definitely stay here again.

Review 46:Although breakfast wasn't included, there was a fantastic bistro next door that served breakfast and lunch. Also, there is a grocery store next to it! The owners were very helpful suggesting places to go and things to do.

Review 47:This place was great. Such a good deal, close to Sedona and the owners were very accommodating. The room was clean and nice. The location was close to all the outdoor activities we wanted to do and the B.F. noted that the TV was "amazing". Seriously, we loved this place and came back for another night later in our trip because the DQI was such a good fit.

Review 48:This was a great stay, I enjoyed this hotel very much, the pool was very clean and wasn't ice cold, the room was very clean and I thought the fridge was a great add on! I recommend it for people looking to save some cash yet stay at a very comfortable and attractive looking hotel!

Review 49:Commode was not secure and made loud sounds when you set on it wobbling the whole time. The room was outfitted with only 1 plastic cup for coffee when there were two occupants. Little things that kept it form getting a top rating.

Review 50:The facility was clean and nicely located.

Review 51:Nice size room, clean, comfortable with fireplace and cieling fan. Great location close to tourist sites in Sedona. Great little cafe right behind mitel.

Review 52:Wifi was TRULY TERRIBLE. Do not stay here if you need to be connected to the Internet for work. This made my stay a bit difficult.

Review 53:Friendly, kind staff. Rooms were clean with comfortable beds and simple yet sufficient amenities.

Review 54:I liked everything. The traffic noise was very quiet. The a/c was great. If I had to say anything negative it would be that the hair dryer wasn't strong enough. But the hotel was great.

Review 55:The receptionist was very helpful when I went to ask her for a restaurant recommendation. We wanted delivery. She got us a phone number for a pizza delivery. The pizza was fabulous. Thank you.

Review 56:The stairwell was very wet and slippery from recent rain and had a large pool on the landing. I understand that rain is not particularly normal for Sedona, but it affected us both night and morning as we unloaded and loaded our car.

Review 57:Host was very helpful and accommodating. Location was really good for our late arrival. Nearby cafe was great!

Review 58:Very large and modern rooms. Extremely clean and comfortable. WIFI works great. Bathroom sink has large counter top unlike most motels. Plenty of room for two people to place all toiletries. Nice size refrigerator. Nice pool. Large grocery about 100 yards behind motel accessible by foot. Great location in Oak Creek near great golf, restaurants, etc., and only about 15 minutes to Sedona and 20 minutes to Cornville.

Review 59:Fan in room had one speed, hurricane. Bed could double for cement, very hard.

Review 60:Close to the wedding we were attending. Surrounding views were incredible. No hassles while we were there.

Review 61:It is a few miles south of the main Sedona business district but great for hiking around Bell Rock area.

Review 62:Appears to be a renovated motel but has been done with excellent quality and taste. Very clean and comfortable. So nice to have the small fridge in the room and the bed was super comfortable. There is a market right behind the hotel and a great coffee and bakery shop - Firecreek- a short walk north.

Review 63:No complimentary breakfast but bakeries nearby.

Review 64:Comfortable room in a modern decor tha was clean. It had a small fridge and microwave. A great location and beautiful view from the hotel site.

Review 65:toilet was 'running' all the time and we couldn't seem to stop it. had to close the door so wouldn't hear. also, no conditioner, only shampoo.

Review 66:Rooms are updated with really nice linens and towels.

Review 67:Staff was nice enough but not as friendly as some of the reviews we read. They probably get tired of answering "touristy" questions.

Review 68:It looks like a basic hotel on the outside. But the rooms are nice and clean on the inside. Preferred to be just outside Sedona. Sedona about 10-15 minutes away. Close to everything and good restaurants within walking distance. Good hiking trails nearby. The price is great for the area!

Review 69:The only problem was the free internet. The connection was so slow I couldn't get it to load a page. I tried three devices, so the problem was with the hotel's wifi.

Review 70:The beds were very comfortable. The room was clean. The staff was the best.

Review 71:Cost seemed high considering the unremarkable rooms and lack of amenities. The only view was of the parking lot. Bed was a little too firm.

Review 72:Location. Close to Sedona, but less traffic.

Review 73:This facility had it all; very clean and comfortable rooms, fridge and microwave were very handy. The pool facilities were excellent; restaurants and shopping available close by. We stayed three nights taking day road trips. It was just nice knowing we had such a great place to come back to relax. The owners, Nick and Gabby were so friendly and you could tell their no. 1 priority was the comfort of their guests.

Review 74:Nothing!

Review 75:Clean, clean, clean. Great spacious rooms which are again, clean! Great location just outside Sedona, easy drive to town. Very quiet. Very helpful staff and a great manager.

Review 76:Strange mixture of class and utility. Nice four-poster bed, but microwave and fridge are in/on a cabinet and ironing board is hanging on the wall. In-room whirlpool is nice but noisy. Comfy chairs and sofa too.

Review 77:Whirlpool, rocking chairs, four-poster bed,

Review 78:it is located in the Village of Oak Creek, which is quieter and less-congested than Sedona. A grocery store and breakfast/lunch cafe sits directly behind the property, which was so nice and convenient.

Review 79:Very clean, strong wifi, close to restaurants, comfortable, great shower, friendly staff, good value, pool, microwave, fridge, location. Also it's ~7.5 mi from downtown Sedona's shops/restaurants closer to Oak Valley, so you need to drive about 20 mins, but I thought this was a pro because you get better rates, it's less crowded, and there are several cafes/restaurants within walking distance.

Review 80:The Wi-Fi was spotty at best. Bed seemed comfortable... but I woke up with a back ache most days.

Review 81:The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The location was great, the price was good for the location and nice size of the room.

Review 82:The mattress was very comfortable, but the pillows were poor! Way too puffy and firm. A down option would be great!

Review 83:The proprietor was very helpful regarding suggestions for hikes and restaurants.

Review 84:None.

Review 85:I liked the location, our clean spacious room, the reliable Wi-Fi, the cafe and supermarket nearby which was just one minute walk away....the best!

Review 86:If you are unable to climb stairs ask for a main floor room as no elevators.

Review 87:Clean, spacious and well located- just not right in Sedona. No breakfast, but lots of space to make something basic in the room. Grocery store just behind the hotel as well as a good restaurant for breakfast. Good sized fridge, and counter space. Highly recommend staying here. Easy access to hikes and close to several restaurants and some shopping within walking distance.Had a view of the Red Rocks room 407 faces toward them. Fireplace and ceiling fan nice touches, also you can open the window rather than use the AC

Review 88:Standard motel design. No lift/elevator for upper floor rooms. Potentially noisy in rooms near road -- although Room 207 was spared traffic noise. Adjacent room walls a little flimsy but fortunately, our neighbours were usually quiet. No breakfast facilities though excellent alternative next door.

Review 89:Clean comfortable location.

Review 90:At check-in (after traveling two days and being very tired) the clerk was arrogant to the point of rudeness. She could use some instruction in dealing with the public. Having to prepay with penalty of forfeiting the refund when we wanted to change our plans and check out early. No computer printing capability available. Laundry was closed when we returned from a day trip to Phoenix (because we couldn't check out early) and got back after dark because we got lost. Gentleman in the office took pity on us and let us use his key so we could do our laundry at 8:30pm.

Review 91:Location was excellent! Beautiful scenery, close to Sedona and Flagstaff. Having an IGA right behind the property was so helpful, and being within walking distance of any given shopping was an added benefit.

Review 92:No continental breakfast, no lids for the in room coffee service, and no hot-tub, though none of these are critical issues by any means!

Review 93:Our room was clean and comfortable.

Review 94:The only thing we really missed was the free breakfast that has become to common. However, there is an excellent restaurant just behind the motel.

Review 95:Price, location and facilities are a definite plus.

Review 96:Next door to Red Rock Cafe...perfect breakfast spot. We could walk to other places for dinner. We enjoyed many hikes in the area of Oak Creek Village and Sedona. The round-a-bouts in the village make driving a breeze!

Review 97:A little problem with the price charged for the room VS what is quoted by Bookings.com... manager resolved very quickly!

Review 98:Clean, quiet room. Walking distance from a very good breakfast cafe... Red Rock Cafe.

Review 99:We could hear the people next door talking, babies crying and laughing. The toilets in our room flushed very loudly.

Review 100:Good iocation, good restaurants nearby.

Review 101:The room was up to date, clean and well maintained. Nice quiet place to stay. Would definitely stay again. Helpful and courteous staff. great room at a great price.

Review 102:Good laundry room. But, only one washer & one dryer. Also it is on the 2nd floor. One has to schlep their laundry upstairs.

Review 103:Clean, quiet, comfortable, convenient, attractive

Review 104:The location was wonderful! The rooms were very clean and spacious. The scenery was spectacular! It's about six miles from Sedona in the lovely, quiet Village of Oak Creek. Still close enough to any attractions you might be interested in. Some nice places to eat and a grocery store very near by. The staff was very nice and very helpful!

Review 105:A little far from Sedona proper, but the drive is beautiful anyway.

Review 106:Room was beautiful and luxurious, quiet and blackout drapes were great. Owner of the property was very knowledgable about hiking in the area. Login website for wifi had extensive information about trail descriptions, locations, etc. Overall wonderful experience, wish I could've stayed longer.

Review 107:Not a bad experience, but Direct TV dropped FNC. Watched on the free Wi-Fi.

Review 108:I was impressed that the staff did a final walk-through of the room before check-in. It was impeccably clean!

Review 109:Nothing comes to mind.

Review 110:The owner/manager was very helpful and friendly. Location was next to highway and away from congestion. Very convenient to grocery store, restaurants, bar and tourist information and attractions.

Review 111:They have a later check in time for the rooms but the manager made an effort to have room ready for an earlier check ln.

Review 112:Good location, and the staff was helpful and friendly. Nice room.

Review 113:It's not bad, but toilet flushing mechanism is as loud as one on an airplane. It was just peculiar, but didn't spoil our overall great experience. We would love to come back.

Review 114:Room had microwave oven, refrigerator, coffee maker, iron, & blow dryer. Coffee and hot coco to make in the room. A nice café next door to have breakfast. A grocery store next door (walking distance) too.

Review 115:I have nothing negative to say. All good

Review 116:The room was very big, high ceilings, very clean and very modern. From the outside looks like a little motel but the room was very very nice. We would definitely stay there again!

Review 117:The location isn't great. It's about a 20 minute drive into Sedona. Plus the pool was closed and there's no hot tub.

Review 118:The room was nice. The jetted tub in our room was lovely.

Review 119:Really friendly hotel manager was a mine of local information, ie where to eat, drink, etc. For very good value food and drink try the Marketplace Cafe/Bar in the shopping mall just opposite the hotel and for breakfast there is a great cafe just behind the hotel.

Review 120:Reviews talked about a great view from second floor. When requesting a view of the mountains, gal said no rooms have a view. But the north-facing do.

Review 121:No elevator. After climbing Bear Mountain, our knees were shot. Next time we book on the first floor!

Review 122:We have stayed at the Desert Quail Inn twice and will stay there again. Rooms are roomy, pleasantly appointed and clean. It is our homebase when hiking in Sedona. A little passage through the back wall leads to a great breakfast place and a grocery store.
