Reviews for Bay Harbor Lodge
Review 1:the bed was hard as a rock, the walls are soooo thin that we could hear every discussion or other people walking, coughing or doing other stuff and our tv volume kept distorting...
Review 2:we liked the location and staff! the scones were amazing!
Review 3:We had the king room. Very small. Bath not new and not the cleanest. Typical old Key place. Better than most
Review 4:The property was nice. Coffee and scones great. Beach and canoes lovely.
Review 5:We stayed in room number 10. It was nice and clean but we could hear people above us walking, talking, and even showering. Because of this we did not have a good night's sleep.
Review 6:Very clean. Friendly staff. Every morning they served fresh scones. We kept ourselves busy with free kayaks and paddle boards. The salt pool was heated to a perfect temperature.
Review 7:Not one single thing was poor. Except if you count the chiggers!
Review 8:Absolutely stunning, quaint property where everything is provided. A terrific spot right on the bay/beach with all the SUP, canoes and swim gear provided. We cooked on our grill every night - local fresh fish!, swam in the lovely pool under the coconut trees. We will definitely come again.
Review 9:Friendly, personal service. Staff all clearly happy to work there and very welcoming. Morning coffee and warm scones delicious. Kayaks great. Lovely salt water pool. Fantastic Christmas lights.
Review 10:-
Review 11:A place to relax. Beautiful garden and beach area, free canoe and paddelboard, delicious coffee with self made scones every morning.totally friendly staff. It was realy great.
Review 12:The location is brilliant, very close to snorkeling possibilities, good food, grocery store. It's also quite and a great place for watching the sunset.
Review 13:Pool walls filled with algae, marina lacking, no beachfront, building by pool wrapped with warning tape should have long ago been removed. Grounds need trimming and sprucing, which we are sure will come in time not just in our time we visited.
Review 14:Rooms were excellent to say the least.
Review 15:Some noise from adjoining rooms, if we had been staying longer we would have chosen one of the detached chalets. No safe in room.
Review 16:Beautiful setting bayside in Key Largo. Perfect for snorkeling & kayaking (provided), Lovely homemade scones in the morning! Very friendly, helpful staff.
Review 17:The guy on reception when I arrived seemed surprised to find a woman travelling alone and made me feel a bit uncomfortable. He definitely didn't mean to, but he said nothing to welcome me or put me at ease.
Review 18:Beachside location but with a really nice pool. All facilities were provided for me to cook meals - as a vegetarian this was really useful.
Review 19:Nothing, but would recommend upgrading to a waterside room - the queen room is a bit small.
Review 20:Wonderful setting, brilliant staff, tasty scones for breakfast. Would thoroughly recommend staying here.
Review 21:You definitely need to upgrade to a bay front cottage for this to go from nice to really special
Review 22:Early morning scones, complimentary paddle boards and kayaks, the view over the bay from a bay front cottage
Review 23:Wi-Fi signal very poor and even though reported to staff this remained an issue throughout our stay. The property is zoned creating an impression of a class arrangement with 1st class nearest beach and so on. Room extremely small and compact.
Review 24:Stunning location. Great advice and assistance from mature receptionist (son had attended Georgia University).
Review 25:Personally subjective for me. was that the bed was a bit firm my liking, but I'd stay again in a heart, beat so not a deal breaker
Review 26:Great staff and location. Lodges vary in size and we had one of the smaller ones. This did not affect our stay in any way and only wished we booked longer than the one day. Breakfast scones are worth the stay alone?
Review 27:No negatives...our only slight issue was with the microwave in the room..it seemed to have the wrong plate that wouldn't fit...but we only needed it a couple of times and it wasn't a major problem..the fridge was quite noisy - but in the UK we don't usually have fridges in bedrooms, we just turned it down at night....there was quite a bit of dust behind the bed, but otherwise the level of cleanliness was excellent... (room 15)
Review 28:Very warm welcome, staff very friendly and helpful. Great location, and we appreciated the use of the Kyaks, pedals and paddle boats..not to mention the delicious scones for breakfast.... We would stay here again.
Review 29:that I had to go home! Made you feel so comfortable.
Review 30:Everything...the landscaping was awesome! Met the owner Peg - she was amazing as was the rest of her staff.
Review 31:The wifi only seemed to work outside and when near reception, which meant I was eaten alive by mosquitos when researching nearby restaurants etc. The room was very very small, with nowhere to put luggage. There was a lot of gardening/maintenance going on which distracted from a peaceful ambience. Other people's rubbish (in bins) was directly outside our door. I would only recommend staying here if you are prepared to upgrade to the seafront cottages. Bed was not comfortable and walls very thin. Also, there is only one restaurant within walking distance.
Review 32:The staff were great, very knowledgable and friendly. The free equipment (paddle boards etc) were a nice touch. The bathroom was modern and clean. Scones in morning were delicious. Easy parking.
Review 33:We found what we sought! A quaint calming spot at the water's edge without all the hustle-bustle of a hotel. The accommodations were up-to-date and impeccable.
Review 34:Nothing in my three day stay I did not like
Review 35:Staff was very friendly and acomidating Great location on bay side and had a boat ramp for small vessels witch was awesome
Review 36:Wifi didn't work in our room (12) but we never got to ask staff how to work it either
Review 37:We arrived late and left early (both during office closure times), desk staff prepared room for our arrival and made check-in/out smooth. Room was clean and cozy decor made us feel right at home. Good quality appliances in room (fridge, microwave, personal AC). Location was perfect (5 min to John Pennekamp)
Review 38:The linens were clean but a little threadbare. Ants got into our food.
Review 39:This is the way we remember the Florida Keys -- beachy, friendly and relaxing. We had a cottage with a beautiful view and our own tiki patio with a grill. Loved the fresh scones and coffee in the morning. Paddle boards and kayaks get an A+. Quaint with great, romantic landscaping and a forget-the-make up atmosphere.
Review 40:leaving
Review 41:Everything! They always take great care of us. My father, girlfriend & I come back every year, throughout the year. The sunset is amazing & the scones in the morning are very good.
Review 42:The guests staying in the room directly above us were very noisy!
Review 43:The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We enjoyed using the free kayaks. The fresh baked scones every morning were fabulous!!!
Review 44:Wifi does not not in the back bedrooms
Review 45:This place is like paradise, very peaceful and beautiful, I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to stay in the keys for few days. Suzie and Eric are wonderful!
Review 46:Great location, nice people, comfortable clean room, and beautiful surroundings made for the perfect, relaxing Keys get away. The scones and coffee in the morning were a nice (and delicious) touch! I want that recipe!!! Overall a great experience. We will be back!
Review 47:Not a huge deal but we could hear the people upstairs walking around, didn't bother us at all but could bother some.
Review 48:We loved our stay here, it is very quiet and peaceful. We were in one oftheir smallest rooms but it was cozy and very nice. The free kayaking isgreat and we had no trouble finding an available kayak, we also enjoyedour time in the pool. The location is great and there are severalrestaurants/bars 10-15 mins away, the staff was incredibly friendlyand knowledgeable. The free scones they have in the morning aredelicious and a nice detail. We will definitely be staying there again.
Review 49:The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. And while really small, the room could have used more in the way of shelves, hooks (for hanging towels and swimsuits, etc.) and one more chair. And the people above us ran around for more than an hour each morning, pounding on the floor (our ceiling) and making quite a racket.
Review 50:The staff was helpful, friendly and courteous. And it was nice to have access to free snorkeling gear and paddle boards. The small beach area was clean and inviting and a great place to hang out.
Review 51:WiFi could be upgraded. The internet was intermittent, but we weren't there for the internet.
Review 52:Very comfortable and peaceful. Great place to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We are already planning our next trip!
Review 53:Nothing, everything perfect
Review 54:Very private and secluded though not far from restaurants and stores. Overall atmosphere was wonderful. Our room was big and the property was filled with lush plantings, shrubbery, and trees. The scones were homemade by the owner and were delightful with the coffee. So much more to add but I will say overall this place is fantastic. 5 stars from me. I will go back again.
Review 55:We had an absolutely fantastic time! We had a great view of the water. The morning coffee and homemade scones were amazing. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Review 56:We felt at home. Beautiful surroundings, lush tropical garden steps from rt1. Excellent salt water pool, cozy beach to watch sunsets or kayak or paddle boat or snorkel. Minutes from Pennekamp .state Park
Review 57:The grounds of the property welcome you in and help you leave your troubles at the road side. This place feels like the 1950's. Quaint, friendly staff, committed to your satisfaction. Fresh scones provided daily each morning by the owner who lives onsite. A true getaway gem!!
Review 58:The location was perfect. My husband and stayed 4 Days for our anniversary. We loved every second of it. Staff was friendly and very helpful. The room was spotless with a wonderful cleaning crew. The amenities complimented or trip perfectly. If we didn't have to go back home to our young children, then we would have stayed longer. Highly recommended!
Review 59:Not happy with manager. There where huge discounts. It would have been nice if we were offered a upgraderoom for the off seasonprice. King sizeroom is not big enough, sitting area is too small of this room. Outside, Sitting in front of your door.
Review 60:It is a beautiful property, great views and wel kept garden.
Review 61:We wish that there were more to do in Key Largo for a young couple.
Review 62:The view of the place was amazing and the amenities were awesome. We took full advantage of the complimentary use of the paddle boats!
Review 63:We stayed in #5. The room was tiny, mostly just bed, and the wall was so thin that we could hear our neighbors talking.
Review 64:The gardens are beautiful and it is very relaxing sitting under the palm trees.
Review 65:It was so humid inside our room that the bed and all our clothes felt wet... But I'd stay there again anyway.
Review 66:Beautiful place, great location, and the staff are amazing.
Review 67:Our room was a tad "cosy" and a bit cramped. Could only get a WiFi signal by reception but fairly minor points and I'd readily return.
Review 68:The grounds are very nice, lots of trees, shrubs and wildlife. Pool area good and the bayside area is very nice with loungers under the palms and kayaks available for use (unfortunately weather wasn't too good when we were there so couldn't take advantage). Complimentary coffe and cakes on a morning were welcome.
Review 69:Minor problem. Thin walls. Noisy neighbors could be annoying.
Review 70:Clean rooms reasonably priced. Lovely grounds. Good AC. Very friendly and attentive staff.
Review 71:The staff that showed up on Monday was really uptight!
Review 72:The staff on Saturday was awesome! Very friendly and out going! The sunset! The grounds! The water access!
Review 73:Nothing to dislike
Review 74:We liked everything about this Little resort. The grounds are beautiful and well kept despite the fall and leaves falling. The stunning views from the jetty and beach were breathtaking especially at sunset. Peg the owner makes fresh scones every morning for the guests, they are to die for
Review 75:nothing
Review 76:Everything. Great staff, service, location right on the beach, free canoes and padalos. Nice clean appartment very well furnished. Highly recommended
Review 77:Only tried the key lime scone and that was too sweet for me but my wife tried the chocolate/raspberry and loved it :) the place next door does accept pets so too bad about that
Review 78:Location, perfect for Key Largo, cozy place, super friendly staff, tempered pool, free kayaks, paddle boards and boats, etc
Review 79:My wife and I booked this hotel/lodge in early April. Grounds are beautiful and the price was very reasonable. The room was very clean and perfect for our stay (two nights). The sunset was amazing as was the free kayaking into the bay (manatees everywhere). The staff was very friendly and informative. If you are looking for the Ritz, this is not for you (you will not be in your room anyway - if you are, why go to the Keys?). If you are looking for a charming (and clean) place to stay in an amazing location, stop looking and book it. We will be back.
Review 80:A bit pricey and no incentive to stay for a week or more.
Review 81:Great location, beautiful well maintained grounds, comfortable rooms and very nice, helpful staff.
Review 82:The only things to even suggest modifying would be: Less sensitive smoke detectors .. Went off when we toasted a bagel... Or any time we used the kitchen.. Cottage 7 is small for 4 people, bathroom is entered through the bedroom, can be frustrating at night when everyone is trying to sleep..
Review 83:The grounds are gardens are beautiful! Gives you the feeling of being in a tropical oasis during your stay on Key Largo.. Beach area and bay are great for water leisure.. Place is clean and well cared for.. Owners and staff are polite, caring and quick to take care of their guests.. Also very close to surrounding activities like snorkel tours and even a drive to the Everglades... We will look forward to our next trip here.. Thank you Bay Harbor!
Review 84:No answer! It was just perfect!
Review 85:Above and beyond my expectation! Beauty to its fullest! Staff unbelievable! Property magical peaceful other guests were just delightful!!!
Review 86:The staff was very helpful and friendly! They were especially helpful about what to do, see, restaurants in the area. The rooms were clean and we had a nice view. You could tell that the owner and staff took pride in the establishment by the way the grounds with many beautiful plants were kept up.
Review 87:There was nothing I didn't like. I'm Just not use to paying that much for a one night's stay anywhere.
Review 88:Suzy and Tonya at the front desk were most accommodating, informative, upbeat, and friendly! Loved the fact the the use of the kayaks were included at no extra charge. I finally got my husband to try kayaking!
Review 89:No dishwasher and disposal.
Review 90:Very nice setting and boat rental was free. Scones and coffee available for breakfast. Very quiet, but if you sat on your balcony you were visable. Very clean.
Review 91:This is not really a complaint more like just comments. The place is lovely. The wifi was a little slow and spotty but we didn't use it much. Our room was a small one and a little cramped but we didn't spend a ton of time in there with the beautiful weather. It would be nice to have a few more hooks for towels and clothes.
Review 92:Great property very beautiful, relaxing, and quiet. The gardens are stunning and very well maintained. Very clean and very friendly staff. Rooms were comfortable. The morning coffee and scones is a wonderful touch and delicious! Very convenient location. Very easy to take out the kayaks. We really enjoyed staying at Bay Harbor Lodge!
Review 93:The walls between the rooms were very poor at keeping the sounds of other guests out. Had a neighbor one night that was a very heavy snorer and after 3 hours I went out and slept in the car, so if your looking for a quiet retreat, beware.
Review 94:The staff, grounds, location and generally everything was awesome.
Review 95:Although we never go on vacation to simply watch TV in our room, there were times when we wanted to catch up on news or watch a show or two. The Comcast signal was quite poor and made sound/picture impossible to decipher. Also, there's no real beach area but we knew that when we reserved our room online.
Review 96:We loved the beautiful natural surroundings. The variety of plants and trees was impressive, and it was apparent that the crew involved in maintaining the landscaping was skilled and professional. Our room was perfectly clean and I never saw an insect or bug of any sort.
Review 97:The room was quite small and the coffee was not great.
Review 98:Loved the home made scones. Enjoyed the beach, kayaking, clean room. The gardens were awesome. The staff was courteous and helpful at all times. Definite do over
Review 99:Avoid Queen rooms for anything other than one night sleepover. Kings are just a little better. The nonexisting soundproofing and stale smell in a small room will kill the experience.
Review 100:Amazing hosts. Friendly, helpful, easygoing. Morning scones are a very nice touch, free kayaks too. Larger rooms are the ones to book. They are the only ones that make sense with huge windows, lawn sitting places and kitchenette.
Review 101:Room was small and a bit tight for us.
Review 102:On the shore of Florida Bay, delicious fresh scones each morning, wonderful value, very good price for Key Largo. Very friendly and accommodating staff.
Review 103:Our room was very small ( last room available, others look to be larger). Expensive compared with mainland, but relatively less expensive for the Keys. Older style, surrounded by other similar hotels .Wifi was sketchy in our room , better at lobby. Was cool, windy for us( January) , not able to make use of facilities ( pool , kayak, Bar B Q) so in those conditions use as a base to explore Keys.Still along drive to KW.
Review 104:Clean, friendly staff ,nicely landscaped grounds, good location. Owner makes great scones in am.
Review 105:They don't allow pets. i have a small chihuauhua and she loves to travel.
Review 106:To bring my chihuahua. I hate leaving her ,if I could bring her I would do weekly stays.
Review 107:I was not there long enough.....already booked in for next year. C
Review 108:Quiet, homely, on the bay, friendly staff, fabulous pool, clean as a whistle, no bar. Morning supplies fresh coffee/tea and assorted home made scones......delicious!
Review 109:Housekeeping leaving our door wide open & wandering off with all of our stuff in the room, auto-sprinklers putting our our BBQ at 8:30 PM, triple charging us & it taking a week to get our money back.
Review 110:Kayaks, manatees, paddle boards, right on the water, BBQ.
Review 111:We did not have much space to sit outside our specific accommodation. I also didn't like the fact we ot had 3 nights here, would have liked longer!
Review 112:Lovely location. Very well appointed accommodation - all done to a high standard. The beds are magnificent - so comfortable. The jetty, kayaks paddle boards are all there for your use. Plenty of loungers. Nice pool. We really loved the gardens - so many beautiful trees shrubs and plants with lots of lovely places to sit in sun or shade. Ate at a few local places and would recommend The Pilot House, Ballyhoo's and of course Mrs Mac. Would give The Bayside Diner a body swerve - had a very poor experience of drinks and meal. And to top it all I cannot forget the morning offering of freshly made scones - more of a cross between a muffin and a rock cake . Fab with fresh coffee. A lovely personal touch from the owner.
Review 113:Small queen room is that, small. No sound proofing.
Review 114:This is a relaxing holiday set in lovely gardens right on the edge of the bay, where you can do free paddle boarding, kayaking and snorkling. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would like to return as it is an excellent site.
Review 115:if you want to be pampered, this is not the place. This is a great laid back hotel, beautiful bay views, very convenient to John Pennecamp Park, the bird sanctuary, a surprisingly good restaurant across the street (Ballyhoos). The buildings seem dated at first, but grounds are beautiful, and inside the rooms are very clean and up to date. Only a few rooms actually have water views, so ask. Also, no real sand beach, but there is a sandy area to launch a kayak. I would certainly consider staying here again.
Review 116:as with so many areas on keys you need to drive to everything - can walk to a couple of restaurants but busy unlit road
Review 117:nice setting on bayside. well run, well maintained. owner made complimentary key lime scones each morning - delish'.
Review 118:Sweet little place in Key Largo. Quiet, private, lovely room, great views of the beautiful water. Great staff, yummy homemade scones for breakfast & coffee. Want to visit the Keys again and would stay here again for sure!
Review 119:No
Review 120:Very polite and ready to help staff. The whole hotel's area is an evergreen tropical garden. The room we stayed in had been recently renewed and had a brand new fully equipped kitchen.
Review 121:No coffee nor.tea available after 11:00am. For the price of the room, complimentary beverages in the rooms or at the office would be appreciated .
Review 122:Loved the location and tranquility of this property. Enjoyed the complimentary scones in the morning along with the coffee and tea.
Review 123:Couldn't walk to anywhere as just off busy Highway 1 - but that is a very minor point the good points more than outweighed this one negative
Review 124:Had a fabulous relaxing time, facilities were first class, able to kayak across the bay
Review 125:We stayed here for 3 nights. The staff were very informative and friendly. The sunset view was terrific. The room was clean, tidy, open, with a very very comfortable bed. Fresh made scones by the owner every morning was a welcome treat. Well kept grounds and restaurants within walking distance.. will stay here again.
Review 126:Nothing comes to mind, but as one employee stated...if you want active or loud night life, this is not the place!
Review 127:We liked the decor, the proximity to the beach, the mellow vibe and that the owner bakes fresh scones daily! Also very comfortable bed!
Review 128:I stayed at Bay Harbor Lodge on what was supposed to be my first night on a week long trip through the Keys. Having flown to Key West many times in the past, Key West was not on my list. After staying at Bay Harbor, I started South on my adventure. The easy drive down past Marathon revealed nothing I could not get in Key Largo. I decided to make Bay Harbor my base and venture out each day. Bay Harbor was the perfect base. Very clean facilities. Staff was very accommodating since I had booked only one night and stayed a week. Very laid back for a good rest after a day of adventure. I will stay at Bay Harbor on my next trip
Review 129:It was raining the day we were there so could not make the most of the facilities The room was on the small side for american standards (they had warned us of this)
Review 130:Entrance is right on the Highway so easy to find but accommodation is set back so quiet. Very helpful staff - recommended a great local restaurant and where to park for free in Key West. Lovely Beach Front location
Review 131:Leaving.
Review 132:Such a clean, well maintained location. Albeit we knew this was not an equipped kithcen (microwave only), they had thoughtfully supplied crockery and cutlery, so we used the BBQ just outside and enjoyed olur meals by the bay! The team supplied free coffee and delicious cakes at breakfast which we enjoyed on the lovely garden furniture on the patio. We used the free kayaks to paddle through the mangroves, enjoying the bird life and iguanas. The sunsets were stunning. The location was ideal for all water sports and the everglades.
Review 133:- Very limited storage in the room - nowhere to hang anything - Could hear noise with every step from people in room upstairs
Review 134:- Beautiful garden and palm trees - Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful (local!) staff - thanks Suzy! - Very quiet and relaxing - Perfect location by the sea and yet easy to get to main road, shops and restaurants
Review 135:Considering the price we paid(approx £120/night)we expected a little more from the rooms which were small a little cramped. Poor shower and A/C very noisy
Review 136:Good central location on Oceans Highway. Some good local restaurants. Coffee and homemade scones for breakfast-a lovely touch. Rooms clean and well appointed. Free use of pedaloes and kayaks. All staff delightful and very helpful
