Reviews for Didjeridoo Dreamtime Inn
Review 1:The communication could improve. I personally think that sticking notes on doors with receipts and information while we are there isn't the way in my opinion.
Review 2:good breakfast, but only at a specific time.
Review 3:The Water Tower room was so loud at night - branches scraping against the room - scary and too loud for sleeping. Both rooms were very cheaply decorated and maintained - bathrooms were poor, couch was stained, poorly arranged for relaxing...
Review 4:We were close to good views.
Review 5:We had an ant problem in our room, the room was not cleaned during our three day stay, and the building was lacking upkeep and maintenance.
Review 6:The location was great.
Review 7:We were assigned to the Water Tower room (#64 I believe). This is not part of the main house and is accessed via the outside and up 16 wooden stairs.Oh how quaint, we thought. Since it was described on our booking as a "deluxe room" we were happy to take quaint at this point. The first room we saw on entering the main house looked lovely, so we were ill-prepared for the accommodations we were about to be provided. The Water Tower room is a two-story affair, furnished in early garage sale/shabby chic, with a narrow spiral staircase leading upstairs. The lower floor has a single daybed, a large, free-standing mirror, a wardrobe and a table and two chairs. Oh and two sinks? The wood stove, which could be used for heating was also on this floor. The bed, on the second floor, was a wooden platform 4-6 inches off the ground, with a borderline mattress, stained duvet cover, and with one side against the wall, making entry and exit challenging. The TV is an "older" model, in the bedroom, with a fuzzy picture and no remote. There were also two chests of drawers, one upstairs and one down. No hair dryer though, but ironically, the Water Tower room had poor water pressure so no showering here. .It was a cold, wet night and the heating system did little to dispel the cold in the room. Since I have asthma, we dared not light the wood stove. Breakfast is not served until 9 a.m. and since we had a long drive ahead of us we opted to forego the breakfast. Perhaps that would have been the best part of our stay.I'm not usually one to go into such detail about a stay, but once I read reviews from others and more importantly the responses from the owner, I felt detail was important. The owner's rude responses to earlier people who had complained were appalling. Had I read those before I booked this B and B I would have chosen somewhere else based solely on his attitude.
Review 8:Nothing.
Review 9:the random townie guys grabbing pancakes from the table with their hands while the guests were still eating. The owners seem to have a handful of a child, he was screaming and misbehaving.
Review 10:unpretentious, simple, sweet
Review 11:The room felt tired and in need of updating, especially the carpet and bathroom. The victorian "charm" was not appealing. The small refrigerator made an annoying hum all night.
Review 12:Easy access to walk the town. It was nice having a fire since the room was very cold and the baseboard heaters did not make much difference.
Review 13:Over 20 Ants in the bed on first morning. We considered leaving but it was Christmas Eve and nearly all other hotels were booked or very expensive. Cleaners changed the bedding and sprayed the room with pesticide. No hot water for a shower on the third day. When I complained to the owner he shouted at me and told me to get out. He did not like bad guests. Breakfasts were vegetarian. The owner decided to change to this 2 months ago. He did not inform us in advance. Windows had to be kept open with pieces of wood. This is the worst hotel of our trip. Do not stay here. You have been warned.
Review 14:Great location
Review 15:Room was a bit cold, which was fine for me but could bother others. And the shower worked fine after figuring out that the faucets were upside down and backwards.
Review 16:Sweet place, great people, perfect location.
Review 17:Beautiful old 1800's Mansion full of antiques...but very comfortable.charles fixed an incredible breakfast and walking distance to shops and restaurants. AWESOME!!
Review 18:Room was very cold when we arrived and had no heating in the bathroom. Even with the fireplace and one small electric baseboard heater it took awhile to get the room warm. Common area was as cold. Room could use a little updating but was nice.
Review 19:Good location for easy walking. The room was nice and the breakfast was very good. Host was very nice.
Review 20:Shower head and curtain could have been set up better in the claw foot tub.
Review 21:Wonderful historic Victorian room/house! Fantastic window sills for our kitty to watch the world go by.
Review 22:Great home made breakfast with live music from a local artist, loved it. The location is fantastic, a 4 minute walk to the beach. Everything is very close.
Review 23:the room was tiny, funky, not particularly attractive. The breakfast was served without tables, people had to sit on the floor, hold plates in their lap. They had an intrusive friend there who tried to control the discussion.
Review 24:It was dog friendly and cheap.
Review 25:Spa bath tub wasn't working in room, tv is an old box tv 20 inch maybe and there was no sofa in room, instead patio furniture in room
Review 26:Owner is friendly and breakfast is amazing
Review 27:It wasn't a bad experience. In fact, it was good, because it was a good value for this location. But the paint work needed to be refreshed, and the whole place needed to be detailed. They said that none of our three credit cards were accepted by their system, but we have had no other problems anywhere else on our trip.
Review 28:The breakfast was very good, and the atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed. The location is fantastic.
Review 29:Breakfasts too sweet- cartelized bacon and sausage. Would prefer simpler breakfast. Bathroom could use updating. Walkway was poorly lit.
Review 30:Reasonable cost and excellent location.
Review 31:Owner scolded us for turning off pilot light of fireplace heater. No instructions were available on how to work it. It could have been handled more diplomatically where we were not chastised. That's our only complaint. The rest of the stay was fine.
Review 32:Great location. Good breakfast. Nice room and jetted tub. Good value for the money.
Review 33:The only downside (& it's minor) would be that without the fire lit the room could get a bit chilly - but the bed was super comfy and warm, so only really noticed it in the very early hours of the morning when the fire had died and I went to the bathroom - so very minor!
Review 34:The location was good (easy walk to Main Street and shops and cafes), the staff were friendly and polite (especially Charles - who also cooks an amazing breakfast). The rooms were comfortable and having your own fireplace was an extra special touch.
Review 35:Lot of noise because the owners were having friends over next to our room Room was cold and we had to run a fire to warm it : nice and vintage but I need darness to sleep
Review 36:Staff is nice, breakfast is awesome (but you dont have the choice on the time)
Review 37:Wish that the owners had a little more money for upkeep on the interior paint. It is chipped and scuffed so it looks unclean ( but probably isn't ) and worn. The t.v. has limited channels though the room tv guide lists more.
Review 38:It has a very laid-back vibe, perfect for folks who remember the 60's and early 70's. Charles is a cool host and makes a gourmet breakfast that would cost you plenty in a restaurant, if you could find a restaurant with such unique fare for breakfast . It is served at 9:00 a.m. so there's no need to wake really early. The free wifi is good. The bed was comfortable. The room had a small refrigerator and a flat screen t.v.
Review 39:Creaky bed when we were getting busy.
Review 40:Art work and eclectic decor. Age and architecture of the house - beautiful. Staff and their support- Breakfast
Review 41:Nothing
Review 42:Wonderful experience. Charles makes an incredible full breakfast. Definitely enough for highly encouraged second helpings!!!! Very warm and loving atmosphere. My 14 year dog, Riley had a great birthday weekend. He especially loved Holly Tannen's singing. Will come back again. Officially my home in Mendocino.
Review 43:Uncomfortable bed and very thin flat pillows. Very thin walls. People coming and going at all hours slamming front door, even after midnight. Our room was right next to front door and was very loud. Screaming children upstairs at 6:30am made it difficult to sleep in the morning. Do not try to take a nap during the day. Husband showered for less than 4 minutes and water went freezing cold, this happened twice. You get what you pay for with this place. I'd give it 2 out of 5 stars.
Review 44:Great location walking distance to everything in downtown Mendocino. Good breakfast but only tables to sit at were outside in the cold. Owners are nice though.
Review 45:Beautiful old Victorian house. Furnished with care and taste with vintage furniture and art... not luxury, just charm! Delicious homey breakfast, friendly staff.
Review 46:There were more than 70 flies in my room (yes, I've counted!) when I checked in. When I asked for a insect killer, they gave me a swatter!!! It was not a pleasure at all to spend my first hour in the room chasing flies! After that my room was covered by dead flies. It was so disgusting! It's unbelievable I had to pay for it! I took pictures of that uncomfortable scene. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this hotel.
Review 47:The location is very good.
Review 48:Nothing not to like
Review 49:A delightfully quirky Inn in beautiful Mendocino. As Australians travelling California's gorgeous north coast we couldn't resist Didgeridoo Dreaming and are so glad we stayed there (there really are didgeridoos, but everything else was California history). We had a very comfortable night in their gorgeous front room, with great bath, very friendly and helpful staff and fabulous breakfast! Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 50:The door to the hall didn't close light-tight and my wife was bothered by the light. And also by the humming refrigerator in the room.
Review 51:Wonderful staff, lovely antiques in the room, great breakfast, very homey atmosphere.
Review 52:Excellent breakfast, friendly hosts, large clean room, super comfy bed, (we stayed in the suite just past the stairs the main floor) the real fireplace in room was all set up and ready for us to light which was a welcomed comfort at the end of a long, chilly day of traveling, great location too!
Review 53:the top decorating bed cover was soiled. the inside linen was clean. the room had much wear-and-tear, it's an antique house.
Review 54:very central. close to hiking trails. beautiful scenery. LOVED the in-room fireplace! staff friendly and helpful.
Review 55:We have never stay at a inn before, but we loved the location, friendly staff, home cooked breakfast and homelike feel. I'm personally fascinated with historical buildings, so it was great to stay overnight at Didgeridoo.
Review 56:Place was very cluttered with piles of junk as you walked into the front door. They didn't have our reservations as we planned even with our confirmation. The room was very dark and window shades broken. The bathroom was so dark with only one candle bulb in a wall sconce. The bedding was so old it was very faded. Worst of all breakfast was served on TV trays!!! We went out for breakfast instead. The second room was bigger but dirty. The property inside and out was very unkept.
Review 57:Our room had a "real" fireplace. The staff were very laid back and wonderful. The owner made a huge "family" style breakfast and we had a dulcimer and singer perform during breakfast.
Review 58:The ensuite bathroom had mould on the ceiling, was generally unclean and the water pressure was very low giving a poor experience. The bed c areaked at every movement.
Review 59:Friendliness of the staff
Review 60:Did not get the room we requested. Room was not clean. Spiders and shower head broken off. Person misrepresented the room. Moved us twice. Owner finally comp the room for the trouble.
Review 61:Breakfast and the person who prepared and served.
Review 62:Totally run down, could be better if minimal maintenance was performed. Pictures don't tell the story at all. Bathroom ceiling covered in black mold that is through the paint, a health hazard. Ran out of water mid shower. Comments to complaints on line have the owner blame the customers and their personalities. He believes his low cost for a Mendicino stay justifies any short comings.
Review 63:The beakfast
Review 64:We stayed in room 63 (at the back) -it's advertised as "deluxe spa bath" room and it definitely was deluxe. Beautifully decorated and very comfortable as well as very spacious and clean. And the bath was really nice too. We couldn't fault them -we've been travelling for 5 weeks and this was definitely the nicest hotel/inn we've stayed at. Plus the breakfast was yummy!!
Review 65:confirmed reservations lost but accommodated anyway. breakfast at 10am missed because too late. room I stayed in had wallpaper falling off walls.
Review 66:Location
Review 67:It was way over priced for the amenities. The room was very noisy. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable. Breakfast wasnt timely, we didnt even stick around. The shower was horrible, very small and hard to shower in. There wasnt any place to park, we had to park at the church across the street. It is a really cool old house but needs some repair.
Review 68:A great old house built in the 1880's entails a less than modern bathroom, including a very noisy hot water faucet, but that seems little to pay to experience Mendocino in its heyday.
Review 69:Friendly, helpful, informative staff, location; a deluxe room that was bigger than most hotel suites, with very high ceiling, an antique bed, etc., all creating a sense of time warp.
Review 70:Breakfast was not until 9:00 and was served huddled around tray tables. Room was dingy without basics like bedside lamps. They don't clean your room unless you ask them to!
Review 71:Location and good breakfasf
Review 72:This place served the most spectacular breakfasts made with love and care. The staff are all wonderful people. The inn is very charming. We are looking forward to our next visit soon!
Review 73:Property is shabby, crowded and in disrepair. No staff cleaning service during our stay. Towels thin. Nowhere to eat breakfast other than on your lap. Very steep stairs (my husband is 88).
Review 74:Location and good breakfast. Music on Sunday morning. TV & DVD available in room.
Review 75:There s a pet kennel right next door The dogs were barking as soon as we got out of our car They finally quieted down but this was not the peaceful retreat we were hoping for
Review 76:This place would be really nice with some attention. The grounds aren't well kept, they didn't have enough seating at breakfast, the innkeeper didn't seem to think barking dogs should bother anyone
Review 77:All the stairs. No wifi upstairs in our room.
Review 78:The didgeridoo is a very quirky b&b and we quite like it being different. Our host prepared a great breakfast for all of us. Very friendly, helpful staff.
Review 79:The wifi needed more repeaters as it only worked on the main floor
Review 80:Our 2nd floor room was great and had a fantastic view of the old church and the distant ocean, a gas fireplace, beautiful matching lamps on the night stands, at night you can hear the surf.
Review 81:They accommodated my special diet and gave us an upgraded room. They are helpful and friendly and it felt likehome.it was a great place to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.
Review 82:The grounds/gardens were dead, I was afraid that the stairs would not hold me. As you walk in you immediately get the feeling that you have entered a hostel not a B&B that you just dropped $178.00/night. The room was filthy! The electric wall heater had such thick dirt on it, it would have needed to be scrubbed not dusted. We were so disappointed in what we saw instead of staying the night we went to a different establishments for the same night dropped an additional $277 and had an absolutely amazing stay!
Review 83:Nothing!
Review 84:We had to leave without using the room. I had allergies probably caused by lack of cleanliness. Refund was considered but has not arrived yet. Still waiting for it!
Review 85:I had changed my day from a friday to a thursday. At check-in they charged me the Fri rate. Didn't know how to change to the Thursday rate. I helped with the change. My Booding.com receipt showed the rate included tax they refused to acknowledge.
Review 86:The lounge area looked like it needed a lot of updating. We didn't have a chance to stay for breakfast as it wasn't available until 9 am, well after we needed to be on the road to our next destination. The clerk seemed as though he was new and put us into the wrong room at first and took quite a while to process our credit card correctly. Hopefully, he'll get better with practice.
Review 87:The location of the Inn was good and within an easy walk to all of central Mendocino. The room was much better and more comfortable than the lounge area led us to expect.
Review 88:The room was not cleaned when we arrived and the place was downtrodden and in need of much repair and cleaned up in general. Not a good place. We were told the rooms are not cleaned every day.The breakfast consists of scrambled eggs, and bacon with sugar and nuts, yogurt with defrosted blue berries
Review 89:We liked that the location was close to the down town area, restaurants and shops
Review 90:Our stay at the Didjeridoo Inn felt like authentic Mendocino, with a very laid back, artistic vibe. The breakfasts were great as well as entertaining. Our room could certainly have done with a few upgrades, but it was still charming, and we had wonderful time. (Great location as well, right on the Main Street).
Review 91:The breakfast was horrible, scrambled eggs with puréed mango! Sausages smothered in some sweet sauce, frozen berries, plus you have to eat with your plate on your lap.The place has absolutely nothing to do with Australia as the name suggests, the building is in need of a complete renovation from the front steps to the hideous bathtub in our room. Owner asked us if we could play the Didgeridoo, when we told him it wasn't culturally right he dismissed our comments and said it was a hippy Mexican thing to do.It's Didgery Dodgery Don't !!!
Review 92:Close to town and a beautiful French restaurant.
Review 93:This is really picky...but I didn't sleep on the sheets because when I pulled the covers back, I saw some stains, possibly bleach stains. Maybe they could put stains like that at the bottom of the bed. Just looked bad.
Review 94:The owner and staff were very nice, friendly, open & informative.
Review 95:Common areas were uncomfortable and the outdoor terrace furniture was rusty and pretty much unusable. Lounge was not an inviting place to linger. Property is in need of major refurbishment.
Review 96:Interesting collection of guests. Good coffee
Review 97:Room off main corridor meant we got a bit of disturbance, but nothing serious. Wifi was a wee bit flaky.
Review 98:Breakfasts were excellent. Staff were supremely friendly and approachable. Room was nice, location was great.
Review 99:The owners/staff take friendliness and knowledge of the area to the extreme. They insured our stay to be pleasantly memorable. Although the rooms are of an earlier era, they are warm, cozy and delightfully appointed.
Review 100:Property is in need of repair and painting. This is a historic building and maintenance is needed to keep the building's integrity. Electrical outlets require securing to the wall. Lots of cobwebs inside the room.
Review 101:Friendly place to stay convenient to everything. Friendly and knowledgeable innkeepers. Great breakfasts! Historic building but everything worked!
Review 102:The staff were amazing and we loved our stay. It was relaxing, non-pressured, and they even had a living room concert while we were there with local musicians. Loved the funky vibe and the accommodations.
Review 103:Odd décor a & need of paint & general sprucing up. Not of caliber of other B&B's. Garden needs work, too. There should be more of a welcome for new guests, not just, how are you paying, here's the key, the coffee pot, etc. Breakfast only served after 9 & not at a table. (reminder-dogs bark)
Review 104:Musical performance at breakfast & breakfast.
Review 105:This isn't a complaint, rather a suggestion. If you are sensitive to noise when you sleep it is best to get a room upstairs as it is an older home and easier to hear voices and walking around.
Review 106:This was my husband's and my first experience at a B&B and visiting the town of Mendocino and we are so glad we took this trip. The owners, a husband/wife team, are extremely friendly and kind. They made our stay comfortable and the breakfasts that they prepared made us feel like home. The breakfast was delicious and varied each day, one of our favorite breakfasts ever! The room was very comfortable and large (room 60). We had a private fireplace and a lovely sitting area on the side of the room where we could have breakfast or just relax and see views of the ocean. We will definitely return on our next trip to Mendocino.
Review 107:Understandably, the house is creaky, the bed is squeaky, and the in-room bathroom facilities are really the bare minimum. That's what you get in exchange for the charm of staying at an old-fashioned bed and breakfast.
Review 108:The location was perfect for exploring this beautiful seaside town. The house was historic and charming with well-maintained facilities. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast was DELICIOUS BEYOND DESCRIPTION!
Review 109:The breakfast was simply amazing, the Chef/owner was delightful. Gourmet caliber, honey pecan bacon was out of this world. I loved being able to walk the town and the beach and head home in minutes.
Review 110:I would take down most of the busy wall decor. The bones of the remarkable, 1882 house are beautiful, but the many things hanging around distract from its beauty.
Review 111:Food was great; quiet at night; across the street from bluff paths
Review 112:Nothing really just different, recycled furniture, ancient huge TV, chipped paint but I supposed goes with the feel and ethos of the place
Review 113:Breakfast was great and different, great eggs with herbs and cheese, sausages cooked with.. I don't know but good and fantastic, and the tastiest pancakes ever
Review 114:Bed linen could have been a bit crisper!
Review 115:We loved the atmosphere of the house, the art , therelaxed breakfasts, and sitting watching the hummingbirds on the outside sitting area. Also being able to walk onto the coastal paths and into the shops so easily. We would recommend to friends and family!
Review 116:Very hospitable and fun. Surprised with an abalone dinner on Sunday evening as the owner abalone dives every week in Season. It is illegal to charge for abalone so his guests are delightfully treated to a wonderful dinner in exchange for wine or dessert!
Review 117:Very cute place. Our room was a deluxe room with private bathroom. The room was very comfortable and private. The breakfast was great. Yes there things that could use a little tlc but that is standard on the north coast. Would recommend to anyone. The owners were very nice and helpful.
Review 118:Totally rundown facilities. They don't even have tables on which you can eat breakfast. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.
Review 119:The breakfast was good.
Review 120:Very old carpet, sheets were not that great, bed was very high, main door had so much space around it that I could hear everyone walking outside as if I had no door, windows were all old and low and could be open by anyone, not very safe. There was a lady that came to play music at 9 am that walk me up with her high pitched voice, the breakfast was terrible. I just want my money back
Review 121:The air coming through my window and the old bath tub
Review 122:The place could use some basic maintenance. Front steps were cracked and fragile looking, there were missing light bulbs in the room, and the room itself could have used a dusting. Sheets had holes in them, place basically rundown, nothing that an injection of money and elbow grease could not have cured.
Review 123:The place had a comfortable bed, huge room, real fireplace and a very good breakfast. The location was perfect and the staff/owners were nice. Low price made up for the shortcomings in this otherwise pricey little town.
Review 124:Host made us feel like we were an intrusion on his life. Breakfast as not hot. I don't like eating off of a TV tray. And no options for those needing to leave earlier than the time they served. Would not stay again.
Review 125:Room was nice. Would love bedside lamp and more kindling for starting the fire.
Review 126:Lack of attention to detail: Dead leaves needed to be raked. Shower handle was broken; had to turn with face towel; Old, small tv. Jetted tub was not clean and mold on jet should be cleaned. Bed was not comfortable. Breakfast was not good. Also served late (9:10). Tough if you need to get going early. Blueberries were not fresh, actually still frozen. No table to sit at during breakfast. You had to eat off your lap or TV tray table. One rusted table and two chairs in patio.
Review 127:Friendly staff. Price is good. Walking distance to everything.
Review 128:Not your "usual" bed and breakfast--and that is EXACTLY what we loved about it. I've never felt so comfortable and welcome at another bnb--and I've been to a few. Charles and his wife Mary really have developed a special vibe with their place--relaxed, easy-going and TOTALLY unpretentious. Yeah--the place could use a paint job inside and out--but really--that adds to the relaxed atmosphere, not detracts from it. Breakfasts were to die for, the place is clean, the beds comfy--and our room (number 68) was small-but just the right size for us--and totally quiet. If you are looking for a chintzy, frilly, dollies-on-the-armrests sort of BnB, this is NOT for you. But if you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere, one where the kids can roll around on the floor with a guest's friendly dog, that is welcoming, unpretentious and laid back, this is the place for you. Huzzah to Charles and Mary for a BnB that really feels like a COMMUNITY.
Review 129:The staff was great..always there to answer any questions and very friendly,We especially liked the room (#60),the breakfast & the feel of the property. Our Sunday breakfast was extra special..we were joined in the dining area by Holly playing her dulcimer. So we asked if we could join and brought out our guitar and played a few tunes together. We plan on coming back in the Fall.
