Reviews for Stanford Inn by the Sea

Review 1:There is nothing here not to like.

Review 2:Really geared to pets. A welcome pet bag with useful items, ability tobring pets to a designated dining area, several pet waste bag stationson property. Even sheets to put on the bed and sofa for your pet. Eventhough we are not vegans we found the food very tasteful andinteresting. The rooms were very comfortable and decorated tastefully. The rooms are large and the bathrooms well appointed and beds verycomfy. The tv and satellite reception was excellent. There are convenientice machines and water bottle filling stations. Each room has a view andbalcony. There are no elevators so you do have to carry your stuff upstairs. Just a minute or two drive into Mendocino. There is a gorgeousindoor pool. A very well done resort with great attention to detail andcomfort. You can rent bikes and kayaks and get a massage. There are TaiChi classes and others.

Review 3:Don't recall bad experience there. We are actually vegetarian, not vegan, so it would have been nice to have eggs/fish, but we understand!

Review 4:Everything. Our daughter has a severe dairy allergy, so it was extra special for her to be able to eat everything on the menu (including in-room cookies!) without worrying about ingredients :)

Review 5:Nothing. We enjoyed everything about our stay here.

Review 6:This lovely hotel is just across the river from the beautiful little town of Mendocino. It has very pretty gardens and a lovely view to the sea. Our bedroom was very comfortable with a nice little balcony and the staff were welcoming and helpful. We especially liked the fact that the hotel is very dog friendly. It is a vegan hotel and, although we are meat eaters, it was enjoyable trying some different types of food for a change.

Review 7:The Inn provided the experience of excellent dining, beautiful grounds, and outdoor activities. The people who worked in the reception area were expert at their jobs, and gracious. The dining room was an especially nice place to enjoy because of the decor, cuisine, and complimentary breakfast.

Review 8:Hotel advertises as a "wellness center" but fails to mention that it's vegan only. Not a huge deal, but as an omnivore limited choices with breakfast and simple things like wanting regular cream with my coffee detracted from the experience.

Review 9:Nice location, friendly staff, nice enough rooms

Review 10:Would like other option other than vegan. We didn't even have breakfast there which was included. Too restrictive. Price was really too much for this place.

Review 11:Location very nice. Comfortable and quiet. Get to have free access to bikes.

Review 12:Not big fans of Vegan food, but it was different and you could tell they made effort on preparation and presentation.

Review 13:The room was very comfortable and the fireplace and patio were great. The grounds were beautiful, and the solarium / pool area was very nice.

Review 14:i can happily eat vegan but always frustrates me that the cuisine has to use the traditional terms, like beet sausage. come up with some new terms. you led the way, you can do it

Review 15:i love the location on the cost and I love your garden.

Review 16:There should be a warning that this place is for vegans. We could not use the restaurant for dinner as all the food was vegan. The breakfast was included in the room price. My wife did not like her french toast made without eggs and no real butter. I did not like my oatmeal without real milk. For the price, the place could use a renovation.

Review 17:Location

Review 18:I'm not vegan so the limited menu was a bit of a downer. Had to find a place to eat away from the inn.

Review 19:The room was beautiful, the grounds were wonderful and there really was no reason to leave once you are there.

Review 20:We enjoyed very much the setting of the inn (where the ocean and river meet), the lush vegetation, the vegetable garden, and the overall peaceful feeling. Plus we enjoyed very much the innovative vegan food at the restaurant--delicious and unique.

Review 21:Lack of friendliness, camaraderie. "Happy hour" only meant you could order a drink. No snacks, no happy folks talking together, making friends. Not once did anyone use my name. I would prefer more than vegan choices in the restaurant.

Review 22:Love the rooms with pine walls, comfy beds, wonderful views and a fireplace. Shiny hard wood floors to brag about. Fireplaces and lots of guests with dogs.

Review 23:Everything. Beautiful rooms with fireplace, parking on site, great views, vegetable and fruit gardens to stroll through, view of the ocean, great lobby area for reading and having a glass of wine, heated pool and whirlpool, excellent staff, close to town and so relaxing.

Review 24:nothing

Review 25:Everything. They bend over backwards to make you feel special. It is a beautiful facility with emphasis on respect for the nevironment. Even their compost heap smells good. The vegan meals are fresh balanced and very tasty. Much thought is put into everything, food, the common area/lounge. They are not pushy with their philosoppy and environmental beliefs. They readily try to meet and special wishes such as packing the afternoon dessert/snack so I could enjoy it after dinner instead. Thei cleaning service is prompt and thorough We are not used to pets, but were not at all imposed on by the pe pets around. We will definitely come back

Review 26:The facilities were clean and comfortable - very cozy. I think the bathroom was on the smaller side, but that's it.

Review 27:My husband and I stayed for our 10th wedding anniversary. What a beautiful spot! The staff were so freindly, the vegan food was incredible. My meat and potatoes living husband felt the food was fantastic and filling. The facilities, from renting top notch Cannondale bikes, to Outrigger canoes, to an amazing facial or massage, were the best. The equipment is kept in excellent condition and the staff is very welcoming, helpful and friendly. We will be going back! I highly recommend it!

Review 28:Although we enjoyed trying vegan food we all found it too fussy. We would have liked something more straightforward and simpler.

Review 29:The location was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed my 2 hour vegan cookery lesson.

Review 30:Facility is "quaint", rooms were a bit tired.

Review 31:Staff was wonderfully helpful, location was outstanding. Meals were totally VEGAN, yet quite good for omnivores. Grounds are lovely, wooded, quiet and peaceful.

Review 32:Fantastic location, views, gardens, common grounds, culinary offerings. Attention to detail was fabulous in rooms. Fireplace arrangement was wonderful and as easy as a switch on a gas log...only it was the real deal.

Review 33:Found staff a little distant There seemed a lot of rules-- a little too earnest at times along the ecological line--trying too hard?

Review 34:Cozy, comfortable rooms with fire always laid in fireplace. Good, but distant view of the ocean Vegan cuisine was excellent--tasty and very interesting. More than filling.

Review 35:I wish we could have turned off the outside lights so we could have slept with the shades up to enjoy the morning light. The mosquitoes were a bit intense. I hope the towels were refolded and not replaced. A hook to hang the towel on would be a nice addition. I wish I had time to take advantage of the massages and art play.

Review 36:Every thing was beautiful! I loved walking through the gardens and enjoying the plants. The room service was fast and thorough. The food was yummy although personally I'd rather eat butter than Earth Balance margarine. Having a list of ingredients for the cookies in the room might be a good idea. I loved the idea of lighting a fire although it was too warm in the room even with the heat down low. Thank you for a wonderful getaway!

Review 37:Fireplace in the room, stocked with firewood!

Review 38:I am not a vegan. No choice of food

Review 39:Quiet, comfort, fireplace, privacy, cleanliness, staff helpfulness

Review 40:location

Review 41:I am not a vegan so unfortunately their restaurant did not have anything for us to eat

Review 42:Loved the gardens and the staff was outstanding.

Review 43:Everything was excellent

Review 44:Quiet peaceful location and room

Review 45:The price was a little steep for us.

Review 46:I room was very spacious and the view was incredible.

Review 47:Food

Review 48:Fireplace

Review 49:The rooms were good but not for $300 + a night.

Review 50:The gardens, the surrounding area.

Review 51:Nothing

Review 52:Everything

Review 53:The vegan thing doesn't work for us

Review 54:Grounds beautiful

Review 55:100% Vegan

Review 56:Electric Vehicle Charger

Review 57:parking

Review 58:quiet

Review 59:There was not one thing that was less than exceptional.

Review 60:We loved the whole experiance! The room was fantastic! With a beautiful view, rustic but classy decor, a warm fire. Even though there were people nearby the room was quiet. We ordered champagne and it was especially good. The staff made us feel very welcome and were warm an so welcoming.

Review 61:Very uncomfortable bed. The carpet was old and worn. The couch was old and worn. Not enough closet/storage room for a 5-day trip. The balcony seemed worn....splintered wood and lots of spider webs. The sign over the jacuzzi about diarrhea is a major turn-off.

Review 62:Beautiful scenery.

Review 63:My family didn't quite care for the all vegan restaurant. They would have liked a more well rounded menu with abundant vegan options.

Review 64:Location, service, cleaniless of the rooms, pet friendly restaurant (very big plus) and the beauty of the surrounding grounds and gardens.

Review 65:We had a problem with fumes entering our room from the wood-burning fire in an adjacent room. The hotel moved us to a different room (that was not as good); no offer of compensation.

Review 66:The location, the gardens

Review 67:Our room smelled of smoke when we arrived. The staff escorting us to our room did not seem to notice. We just figured the room had not been aired out after the last guest. After lighting a fire that evening in the fire place the room filled with smoke and the fire alarm went off in the room, so much for cozy romantic..cough, cough. Coffee pot in room work the first day but did not work the next day. Wi-Fi did not work. Vegan dinner at the Ravens the on site restaurant was dry, very over cooked and very expensive. Drinks were good...thank goodness. We were celebrating our 40th anniversary which I had mentioned but nothing was provided to acknowledge or make our visit more memorable. We won't be returning and I would not recommend to others for price charged or accomadations.

Review 68:Location. Breakfast was great. Loved the fresh orange juice. Would be nice to have cream on hand for those of us that use a little in our coffee.

Review 69:Honestly being a non vegan and a non vegetarian the food provided with the room at the Ravens restaurant left us needing to go to breakfast shortly after somewhere else in town. Wasn't bad just doesn't work for me and my wife.

Review 70:Th hot tub/sauna/salt pool was very nice and enjoyable. The proximity to the ocean is nice and also enjoyed walking the grounds and seeing the animals and the gardens.

Review 71:Nothing!

Review 72:Great staff with quiet rooms and ambience. We were pressed by the tasty Vegan breakfasts. We are both meat eaters and did not feel the least bit slighted by the menu offerings.

Review 73:the front desk personnel could be a little more customer friendly

Review 74:great place

Review 75:Staff was wonderful.

Review 76:No AT & T service

Review 77:Beautiful property and friendly staff.

Review 78:Fire place did not draw well.

Review 79:Covered swimming pool, waffles at courtesy breakfast, the daily cookie

Review 80:Comfy rooms, great views, tranquil setting, in room fireplace
