Reviews for NY Moore Hostel

Review 1:Near to the J line (good for those who will use the train/Subway to leave JFK airport) and near to the L line (best option to go to Manhattan) Big rooms.

Review 2:Only a few lockers available, not enough for all guests...unless I missed some!

Review 3:Located in a cool neighborhood - had fun just hanging out nearby the hostel but it's not too difficult to get to many of the main tourist attractions either. Staff was great - very helpful and friendly. Big rooms, clean bathrooms.

Review 4:Super noisy at night and early in the am. The walls are paper thin - more so than most hostels. And it wasn't even busy when we were there!

Review 5:good location, friendly staff

Review 6:Missing some things to cook with especially when the kitchen gets busy.. But still ok

Review 7:the staff is very nice, this hostel is clean and the rooms are really good for the price.

Review 8:(Stayed in 3 bed, female dorm) The room was big and clean, bathroom aswell, and the beds were comfortable! the hostel is close to the subway, so it is really easy to get to Manhatten. But there is also a few nice coffe shops, organic stores and other shops nearby!

Review 9:N/a

Review 10:Spacious room. Great hospitality from staff. One of the cleanest hostels I've been to so far!!! Only 4 blocks to metro stop and surrounded but tons of good food choices.

Review 11:The staff were fantastic and very understanding when we had an issue with the booking (which was our fault). Clean, spacious and well equipped hostel, in nice location which is easy to get to. I will definitely be staying again and recommending to friends!

Review 12:Expensive. Heating was not on, it was really cold in the rooms. We received additional blankets when we complained, but the heating was not turned on. Could be cleaner. Note: this hostel is not in Manhattan, it will take around 30min to get to Manhattan

Review 13:Friendly staff, large rooms

Review 14:I liked everything about it!

Review 15:Great, friendly staff always willing to answer questions. Good location - close to subway, neighborhood bars, and several stores and food options. Roberta's pizza rules!

Review 16:no hot water. Room not totally dark because of the window in the middle of the ceiling

Review 17:friendly staff. close to Morgan station (less than 5 minutes on foot)

Review 18:no hanging out in the vicinity, no real cups and cutlery in the kitchen, wifi unstable

Review 19:extremely friendly and helpful staff! clean, bright and spacey rooms.

Review 20:THE COMPUTERS WERE OLD THEY COULD USE SOME UPGRADES ON THE PCS

Review 21:VERY BIG ROOMS MY BATHROOM WAS IN THE ROOM I SLEAPT IN PLACE VERY CLEAN STAFF NICE AND HELPFULL

Review 22:One of my roommates didn't get to the room until three in the morning. While both the guest and staff member attempted to be quiet they still woke me from an already restless night of sleep. Like others have said, it is not very close to a subway station.

Review 23:Clean room and very nice staff.

Review 24:This hostel was great for me, even better than expected. The room and bathroom were spatious and clean, nice room mates, had everything I needed. There is a tv&reading lounge downstairs, internet room, snacks, soda and toiletries vending machines, free coffee & tea :), access to a fully equipped kitchen and fridges to store food and drinks, nice patio outside, perfect for hanging out...And what i liked most was that, for the first time in a hotel/ hostel, i didn't really feel like a customer, i felt like i was staying with friends...Made a lot of friends from all over the world and the experience was very nice for me. And the staff is so nice and friendly and available for any questions that they really made me feel at home. (❤️ for Emily) I strongly recommend this place, it is such a great value for money. I am surely gonna book there again when I get back to NYC!

Review 25:I enjoyed everything. Staff was great, Danielle, Miguel and all the other staff members helped me a lot. Hostel rooms are big and beds comfortable. Location perfect.

Review 26:Location. Avenue J is far in Brooklyn, in the morning Manhattan-bound express trains don't even stop there. Towels. Are not complimentary. They cost 3$ each.

Review 27:Nice room, 3 single-level beds, nice shower room. Graffiti art on the walls.

Review 28:The bed linen wasn't very clean. I had to cover the pillow case with a shirt because otherwise I couldn't have slept on it. Sadly also - when I woke up my body was covered with bites.

Review 29:The staff were really nice and very helpful. The other people sharing the room with me were friendly and respectful. Good location. Nice common room area.

Review 30:The room could've been a little cleaner, but it wasn't really a big deal to any of us.

Review 31:The staff was really friendly when I checked in. Everything was as described, and it was a good value for a group of friends. I would definitely book here again based on my experience.

Review 32:it's not in Manhatten, but still your quick there. Could be a bit loud in the evening, depends where your room is

Review 33:Good hostel, you easy meet other travellers, room was quite big (3 dorm room), subway is near, had free tea and coffee, friendly staff there, you can always ask them, if you need information

Review 34:noise insulation.

Review 35:Location is good (the metro takes you to Manhattan in 15 minutes). Kitchen. Nice living room. Bed was quite ok. Bathroom good. Staff alright.

Review 36:It's been all good and I look forward to my next stay.

Review 37:The friendly and helpfulness of the team. Another plus is the great location to other areas in the City and its affordability.

Review 38:If you're up early and the first one in the shower it can take 5-10 minutes for the water to heat up! Around 40 minutes from central Manhattan depending on time of day can be a bit of a drag, but so long as you expect that it's fine.

Review 39:Quiet and peaceful hostel in safe location - the staff were very friendly and helped take luggage to room. Elevators to higher floors. Excellent value for money and I would definitely book here again on a return trip.

Review 40:Free wi-fi speed was meh... For the price I would have expected to get a fresh towel in the room, but sadly this was not the case. Another guest had a little too much to drink and yakked in our room. I refused to sleep in the room and the staff happily accomodated me with another bed for the night. Way to turn a bad situation into a good one :)

Review 41:Great staff, tons of info on local hangouts and night scene.

Review 42:shower curtain needs replaced or cleaned---a lot of mildew at the bottom of it

Review 43:The murals throughout the building; the size of the rooms; having a private bathroom

Review 44:Shower took a while to heat up but I didn't die. :)

Review 45:There's plenty of space in the dorm room so you weren't tripping over each others luggage. Staff are very helpful. Location is clean, comfortable for a long stay (I stayed there for a week), suprisingly quiet if you not counting on other guests making a noise. I wasn't much in the communal areas so I can't comment on that much. I enjoyed my stay.

Review 46:The bed I chose was in the 3-bed female room with private bathroom. Theroom was huge and I was very happy to see there were no bunker beds! The bed was comfy, the bathroom was very clean. The vending machinesare super convinient. I left my luggage in there luggage room whilewaiting for the check in time and after the check out. And I had noproblems with that. The staff was great!!! (Only one girl was not sonice in the morning I arrived) The staff is very helpful. =D Theycalled a taxi for me to go to the airport and helped me take theluggage down to the street.

Review 47:Located in Brooklyn, so further from touristic sites in Manhattan (20-30 min by metro)

Review 48:Friendly staff Good value for money Room with 3 beds, the beds were confortable and the room big with a private bathroom.

Review 49:Nothing atall

Review 50:The staff, the location not far from L line to 14th street, no bed bugs atall, slept like a baby every night if am in new york next time i will definitely stay in NY Moore hostel

Review 51:It could had breakfast included and maybe towels.

Review 52:Staff very helpful and very friendly, big rooms, nice facilities working very well, everyday there's a cleaning lady making sure the bathroom is always clean, and if you ask she can change your sheets. I had a wonderful time there.

Review 53:Was a great stay. Super easy to get into and Manhattan and even easier to visit cool areas in Brooklyn including Williamsburg. Staff were dope and the rooms are so somfortable and nice

Review 54:The doors might be a bit more isolated (the private bedrooms are close to the entrance and anybody who gets in or out can be heard easily), but a fully quiet hostel is not really to be expected anyway. Don't have anything else to report !

Review 55:The staff was extremely friendly and helpful (even looked up the best connections for my next trip !), the location very convenient (between the L and M lines, direct to midtown and downtown Manhattan, and there are good breakfast and dinner places around), and the place clean and comfy (I stayed in a private room, and the bathroom was absolutely huge !). I'd recommend the hostel without hesitation !

Review 56:The location is alright if you get off at the Montrose Ave station on the L line, but it would feels horrible if it was Flushing Ave station. The facilities seem a bit out of maintenance. It would be better if they pay more attention.

Review 57:They are not bunks in rooms, which I really appreciated. The staff members are really nice and helpful, actually the best I have ever met.

Review 58:Loved the three bed dorm and ensuite (both were spacious, modern and clean). Appreciated the big lockers and free filter coffee. Location is ace – around the corner from hipster Bogart St, close to two subway lines, super easy and quick trip into midtown Manhattan.

Review 59:The neighborhood has absolutely nothing going on. There are no restaurants/bars to speak of withing walking distance. It's a long train ride to Manhattan. The atmosphere isn't very "social" ..so this isn't the hostel if you are looking to meet fellow travelers.

Review 60:The hostel is clean and spacious. There is free coffee and tea at all times. Big common room with a TV.

Review 61:Could have done with a extra pillow! :)

Review 62:Location was great, loads of bars and restaurants around. Also was very close to Subway and easy to get in & out of Manhattan

Review 63:First we had a room with no windows in the back of the hostel. Then we were moved to a room at the front of the hostel. At 3:00 in the night people started working across the street with garbage trucks. Even with the Windows closed there was so much noise. The location is not great, it is in a industrial area. If you are going to new york for holiday just one week and you want to visit the city and the tourist things i would not recommand this hostel. It realy is for backpackers.

Review 64:For a hostel it was clean and there was free WiFi, water, Tea and coffee.

Review 65:There was laundry inside hostel, we had to take it to a laundromat down the street.

Review 66:The staff were always wanting to help and made me feel comfortable. The rooms were spacious and really nice.

Review 67:The L-train to the Manhattan did not run on the weekend thus it took quite a while to go to time square for example..

Review 68:I liked the cleanliness and friendly staff, Wifi was also working well.

Review 69:no breakfast not the best neighborhood to stay no private parking

Review 70:Good hostel for young travelers clean friendly stuff Underground close location parking on street

Review 71:The mattress on my bed was not very comfortable, the springs could be felt. And audibility in the room very high. Hear all the steps from the rooms beside and above. So bring your ear plugs and all will be OK!

Review 72:Great hostel in NYC! I stayed in the room for 3 women. The room is very spacious with a clean shower. The room was cleaned about every 2-3 days. In the room were metal lockers, wardrobe and clothes rack, bedside table and large mirror. Wi Fi in the room is not very good. The staff is very friendly. In the lobby sofas and a TV. Tea, coffee, sugar free. You can walk to various subway lines. The district at first glance seems unsafe, but I have no problems and the feeling of danger had disappeared in a few days. I recommend!

Review 73:Employees male or female just walk in to a room at will, without as muchas a knock on the door. This happend at least 3 times, before I spokewith management, and he apologized.

Review 74:After staying there 5 days i can't find a thing i disliked.

Review 75:Its clean, quiet, the staff is very polite, you meet all kinds of different personalities which is great. If you're a first timer in new york, and need a place to stay, at a fair price, this is the Place to stay. the staff was very helpful and kind.

Review 76:One Night was noisy (stayed 7 nights), furniture in common area was not very comfortable.

Review 77:Friendliness of the staff, free coffee all day, common area, big room with privacy (stayed in a three-bed dorm), close to subway, great Italian restaurant nearby, great small coffeeshops and delis close.

Review 78:The front desk staff was the nicest I have met at any hotel, including the Ritz Carlton! They even carried my bags up the stairs for me. Also, the bed was comfortable, there was plenty of lighting in the room, the ammenities make you feel like home in a top quality flat, and there was no noise.

Review 79:1. A bit far from Manhattan. However, there is a direct L subway train stop nearby, it usually ran with delays (night waitings for a train were 25-40 min!). For those, who's gonna hangout in NYC, I'd recommend bar area around Bedford Ave instead of Manhattan cz it's just half an hour walk from the hostel and u may highly increase your chance to hit you cozy hostel bed when you especially need it ;)

Review 80:1. Friendly staff 2. The rooms were warm and clean 3. Free coffee & tea 4. Cozy lounge area 5. Absolutely safe neighborhood (day and night)

Review 81:Nothing. Everyhting was great!

Review 82:I stayed in a room for 3 people. The atmosphere in the hostel is just great! The personnel was very helpful! I booked a mixed room and when I got there I had to change it at 2 in night. The reception was very helpful and switched me in a different room. Big thanks for that! I highly recommend the Moore Hostel!

Review 83:the toiletries aren't free except toilet paper, but they're available downstairs. other than that, FANTASTIC.

Review 84:the proximity to four subway lines (J,M,Z at Flushing Avenue or Lorimer Avenue/ L from Morgan Avenue) is worth the price alone. TWO KITCHENS. Incredibly helpful staff! Computer / Common room. Tons of room for your own stuff in your room with two other hostel mates. I only stood 1 out of 4 nights with two other mates, only one the other three.

Review 85:No problems

Review 86:The staff here were particularly great. The 24 hour reception kept things cool. Short walk to the subways to head wherever you want for the day. Walk to Brooklyn bridge.

Review 87:My stay at this hostel was great. The staff were very patient and helpful. The common areas were comfortable to hang out. Bathrooms were always clean. The room was spacious and well heated, and the bed was comfortable. Overall it was a very good experience! Thanks for everything!

Review 88:This place was value for money in New York. I had no problems with any of the components of this hostel.

Review 89:The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere created by management and staff. The comfortable design of the common room which allows people to be social or not, as they wish. 24 hour reception. Nearby delicatessans.

Review 90:Our room was very neat. Hostel was basic. Was my first time in a hostel and I felt uneasy at first, one of my room mates was kind and helpful, so were the hostel staff, I later felt at ease. Will surely go there again if I ever happen to be in NY.

Review 91:Connecting to the Wifi was ALWAYS a hassle and the rooms and bathrooms were not cleaned towards a standard of perfection.

Review 92:The rooms were spacious and the kitchen area downstairs was great.

Review 93:Thin walls, thin mattresses. Still great value, though.

Review 94:Service, amazing comfy lounge area, large beds in small dorms, a real full kitchen, free coffee all day, internet and office stations, service and smiles.

Review 95:the hostel include 2 building, connecting in an open area between them and it's something we didn't notice on booking... very cold to pass ther at night :( after we paid the 2' night we found good hostel for the same price with breakfast in upper west side of manhattan, so we think the price should be cheaper for the location of the hostel and for no meal include. except it i'll definitely will turn back to this place and recommend it to everybody!

Review 96:great! we loved it, closed to the L line of subway that within 20 min takes u to the center of manhattan. not dangerous at night. only 3 ppl in the room with private bathroom -it's alot for an hostel, we think it's need to be called moore hotel :) room was very very big and clean with a sofa and big table to organize your stuff during your stay. it's not really feel like hostel, not full of young ppl screaming everywhere, very calm place to rest!

Review 97:Cleanliness: our room was never really cleaned during our stay. The beds were not made once (6 nights stay), we had to ask for towels even though the hostel's website indicated they were provided, the floor in the room was disgusting (our luggage was on the floor and when we lifted it onto our bed, the bed was left full of dirt and hairs etc), the mirror in the room was dirtier by the day. Only bins were emptied daily, ouf! The staff is really not professional. Some seemed to have no experience in a customer service job whatsoever and didn't even manage to smile once. Some seemed hungover or even high. Some seemed to be working even though they prefered not to. Only the girl during check-in was a pro. I guess it's hard to find good staff in NYC, but I do believe with more checking up by the managers, this can be changed. If you never check upon their work, you get what we've experienced. Too bad for a hostel with this great potential. I could also recommend putting a shelf in the bathroom close to the sink. And perhaps organise an activity now and then so friends could be made at the hostel :-)

Review 98:The spaciousness of the room and private bathroom, the common rooms, the location close to L-subway, the location to a great deli and pizzeria, the beds, the lockers in the room, the fact that there was no noise in the room coming from the hall or other rooms (there was noise coming from the business across the street, but it's not too bad), the price/quality.

Review 99:Neighborhood looked intimidating.

Review 100:Help was wonderful. It was clean. Bed was comfortable, but room stark which was ok. Three of us stayed and all thought we slept well. They called us a cab which was reasonable.

Review 101:Fit & Finish - Bathroom door would not latch tightly and constantly opened even when locked. Lockers in room were nice but were freestanding and not secured to wall or floor.

Review 102:Staff Atmosphere Ammenities

Review 103:I was overtired so I may have missed the info given at check in, but the bathroom had no towels to wipe my hands and the fitted sheet on my bed did not seem thoroughly cleaned.

Review 104:The individual who greeted me was kind and welcoming. I was able to find free easy parking right out front. Free wifi and maps with cool things to do in the area.

Review 105:Compared to a hostel in upper west side manhatten, the space and prvicay was luxury (I was solo in a 3 bed all female room). May not be great for meeting people - I didn't notice any organized group events but common space is comfortable. Staff was super friendly and approachable! Found it easy to get around on subway from here as its really close to Montrose on the L. I felt safe walking alone from subway to hostel at 2:30 am. I would return!

Review 106:There was maintenance work outside my room, which made it difficult to nap or sleep in.

Review 107:Huge rooms, well maintained. Staff were very friendly and very helpful.

Review 108:Maybe the lights were a bit dim in the room, I don't know if it's done on purpose but it seemed a bit dark at night. Even so, we all had personal lamps near our beds which was cool as you didn't need to bother others who might have gone to sleep early. :)

Review 109:Everything was fantastic, the room was spacious, clean, I got a double bed which was great because I stayed for five nights and I slept like a baby the whole time. I had so much room that I didn't have to bother anyone with my two luggages. The private bathroom also had a lot of room, a ragged (one of its doors didn't close) but functional enough shelf, and a nice ventilation/extraction system. The water pressure and temperature were always optimal, too. It was overall a really nice experience, meeting people and conversing in various languages, smoking in the patio, which always had clean ashtrays. I didn't use the common room much, but it seemed like there was a friendly vibe in there, too. I used the water dispenser to refill my water bottles, and the coffee machines in the morning. I didn't do much else in the kitchen to be honest but everything seemed pretty organized and clean and even homey. The staff was really nice, helpful and engaging, always providing information and a smile. :) The neighborhood was colorful and artsy and safe, with lots of thrift stores and restaurants, bars, and grocery stores full of organic stuff. The subway is really close, too. I went back and forth from the subway station at all hours and it never felt unsafe. I'll definitely be back next time i'm in NY.

Review 110:- difficulty sleeping in room next to the reception (noisy) - you have to pay for luggage storage

Review 111:- nice and helpful staff - location within walking distance from the metro station - a good choice for budget travel

Review 112:Though area seemed quiet it was too noisy outside periodically. Maybe because of the ground floor and open window.

Review 113:Location - close enought to Manhattan, 5 min walking from subway, easy to find. Very clean ans safe. Three beds in the room and a bathroom. Worth the money for solo travelers who are not willing to share a room with 19 more fellows.

Review 114:Biker group hanging out across the street on Saturday nite when we got in at 11pm. Revving their engines and peeling out till they all finally dispersed

Review 115:Staff very friendly, room clean

Review 116:Even though the hostel is far from Manhattan, it is very close to the subway and the L line will take you to the center in 15min. Our room (3 beds female dorms) was HUGE, we had our private living room and it was very clean. The staff is really nice and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay, Thank you very much!

Review 117:A little bit loud at night sometimes as my room was located near the court yard where the smoking area is located. Also a good 25 trip into the city center.

Review 118:Great local area with good service and good value for money.

Review 119:projects to the right, saying that we had no trouble at all poor internet connection, but it did seem to be available throughout the building just not very fast and often lost connection

Review 120:close to two subway stations property was nice very artsy area to the left nice room 20mins from manhatan including the walk to either one of the subways (L&M lines)

Review 121:bed not very comfy

Review 122:small rooms- sharing with only 2 others kitchen facilities good level of cleanliness helpful staff nice location in trendy Bushwick close to L line Subway

Review 123:The neighborhood seemed safe (being from downtown Toronto it didn't phase us much) - but the immediate area of the hostel at night might seem a little sketch to people not used to large cities.

Review 124:Spacious, clean, well-equipped rooms and common areas. We booked a 3-bed private room with en-suite bathrooms for one night. The ladies at the front desk were incredibly lovely, knowledgeable and helpful - we arrived super early in the morning & were able to place our bags in secure storage for the day. Got all the info we needed for transit, getting around, and great food & bar recommendations in the surrounding neighborhoods. They have really great maps available on the counter. Check-in/Check-out was quick and easy. Will definitely come back!

Review 125:Location just o.k., but at least relatively close to subway. Not much NOT to like, here. Definiteley one of the better NYC Hostels...

Review 126:Consistently friendly & helpful staff; a guest LAUNDRY is desperately needed! Guests stay BRIEFLY & don't need to schlepp it down the street in a marginal neighborhood. Beds well spaced, but pretty hard & uncomfortable.

Review 127:Location is a bit dodgy especially at night, and it takes a while to get there via airtain. You also need to pay $3 for a towel, and there's no breakfast.

Review 128:It's not very far from Manhattan, about 30-40 mins on the L line. Big spacious rooms, and I had good room mates.

Review 129:Everything was amazing.. i arrived one day earlier so i didn't expected to find anything available since it was fully booked, but to my surprise the girl at the reception was super nice and gave me the night on the same room that i already booked. She was also kind enough to point me to all the necessary places where you can do shopping or buy a really quick meal. The hostel is very clean, peaceful and quite, close to everything in town and just 15 to 20 minutes by metro to Times Square. If you want to have a decent dinner at a restaurant you can always try the Williamsburg area, which is packed with restaurants and bars with high quality services and food, accessible prices and a cozy atmosphere. I'll definitely come back and i would recommended to anyone who wants to have an enjoyable stay in NYC.

Review 130:It is already not so cheap + you pay for every extra: towels for example... and they wanted 5 dollars for keeping my bag more than 2 hours after the checkout... I find this ridicolous... All the other hostels that I have visited in my road trip were always helpful without extra fee... it is not that much for the 5 dollars, but hey... it just doesn't look friendly...

Review 131:- Very nice room: 3 bed mixed dorm with private bathroom (+ air conditioning) - Awesome location, Williamsburg is the best! - Nice common areas (TV, internet, more restrooms, open air)

Review 132:- maids were gossiping in front of guests in spanish, didnt clean too well

Review 133:- very friendly and helpful staff at the reception - good location, metro station 10 away from hostel - quite beautiful for a hostel

Review 134:We were 3 friends and the room was quite big. The whole place was clean. Also the area is ideal (there are many cafe, restaurant and bars nearby). Finally staff and owners were really kind.
