Reviews for Wapiti Lodge
Review 1:The guest in the two rooms next to us were moving back and forth slamming doors until 3:00am.
Review 2:Friendly staff, outdated room but very clean and comfortable for the price.
Review 3:Stayed there for a week and multiple days the cleaning crew did not clean room or give new towels. Had to go to office to get clean towels. Overall rooms are outdated.
Review 4:Close to local eats, Convenient for access to vehicle for moving hunting gear in and out of room.
Review 5:Great location. 3 minutes to historic downtown, narrow gauge train, restaurants, etc. Easy access to Hwys 160 and 550. Friendly helpful staff, provided a microwave, refrigerator, and a 12 cup coffee maker (not the usual hotel 2-4 cup)! Homelike atmosphere with nice lawn and mature trees (no cement parking lot views). Nicely decorated large room with wifi, comfortable king size bed.
Review 6:First room assigned smelled so bad we could not stay in the room for more than a few minutes without gagging. Second room had worn out furniture and paper thin towels. Bad choice for Durango!
Review 7:I did not have a bad experience. I knew what I was getting into.
Review 8:I love the personal feel of a smaller place . I would book with them again if I am ever in the area.super clean and personable.
Review 9:We thought a breakfast was included with our room price, but there was no breakfast. TV was older model that didn't properly display the HD signal. We didn't like to smell cigarette smoke from people smoking outside their rooms.
Review 10:Price wasn't too high, and it was reasonably close to where we planned to visit.
Review 11:Extremely noisy for much of the night due to other guests. Very inconvenient access to the upstairs room.
Review 12:John, the person who checked us in was very welcoming and congenial.
Review 13:The back steps were very dark, need better lighting for those stairs to the upper rooms.
Review 14:Super nice family/owners NIce b ig, clean tub Cute comfortable little deck with the upper rooms
Review 15:I wish it was a little closer to downtown or that my kids were less whine-y and would just walk the half mile.
Review 16:Wapiti lodge was clean and comfortable. At night it was quiet and the air conditioner kept it cool. The bathroom and sink were clean and in good repair. There was a microwave, fridge, TV and WiFi. It was a good, affordable base for visiting my daughter at Ft Lewis College.
Review 17:Had to carry luggage around back and up two flights of narrow stairs, very noisy from adjoining tenants from talking outside to their alarm going off several times starting at 4am
Review 18:Room clean
Review 19:Travelers nowadays usually have multiple devices that need charging, not the least of which is a hair dryer/shaver/toothbrush/etc. The only outlet in the bathroom was not connected to power. After a day touring, we returned to find absolutely nothing had been done to make our unit livable -- bed unmade, used towels not replaced, no cleaning had been done, etc. The property is situated quite close to a busy street/highway, and was noisy all night. The door security consisted of a loop of metal "rope", which was attached to the doorframe with a screw.
Review 20:Upon entering our unit, the first impression was, "This is nice.", the second opinion was, "This is terrible!".
Review 21:Loud party going on from 1:0a.m. to 5.0 a.m. - probably in owner's place upstairs. Got no sleep! Small motel so no one in reception at night. Also on noisy road. No breakfast included so not so cheap for what was a very basic motel.
Review 22:The beading was ripped, towels were old and a bit stinky. No soap refills were given over a 4 day stay. No closet.
Review 23:Large room with outdoor seating space in front. Great price and great location.
Review 24:would have been cool if the had a breakfast room, but understand because of the size of the place
Review 25:perfect location, my group had 6 of the rooms and was very easy to sit and relax out under the patio cover in the evenings
Review 26:for me and my family and I thought that was real nice of them to do that for us thank you The only thing I was not satisfied with was we only had two towels in the restroom instead of three
Review 27:Because of the fact that I was getting in late they were nice enough to leave the key under the mat for me and my family and I thought that was real nice of them to do that for us thank you
Review 28:Showed up and no one was in the office so we couldn't check in. Left a voicemail and they got back to us while we were at dinner. That was the only hiccup.
Review 29:Nice little place, well maintained.
Review 30:Water in bathroom smelled like fish - chose not to shower because of this. All rooms booked in Durango, so I had little choice. Staff kind, but will not return.
Review 31:Gravel/stone walk-way behind building and rickety wooden staircaseup to our room. No closet, no place to put suitcases except on bed.Thin, snagged linens (looked very old).
Review 32:Comfortable bed. O.K. shower.
Review 33:Several ATV trailers in the lot made parking my trailer a slight hassle. I was helped by another guest who allowed me to park across his parking slot.
Review 34:While not the closest, the motel was walking distance from the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge station. Kitchen facility was nice.
Review 35:While the motel was not far from the historic downtown and train station, it wasn't walkable, so we had to drive less than a mile and find (and sometimes pay for) parking. Decor was outdated, but overall fine.
Review 36:It's a nice, small mom and pop place. You park directly in front of your room and there's a little courtyard with a swing/games.
Review 37:The toilet had Skid marks and waste spots from the previous guests. The air conditioning operated by fan only the add offered pool and hot tub but they were n it part of the facility
Review 38:The bed was comfortable
Review 39:Advertised has having a pool and hot tub. There is no pool or hot tub on premises. The pool, hot tub and fitness room that is shown in pictures is on the other side of town at a fitness spa. The wifi was inadequate, no breakfast, no pool. Way overpriced for what it is.
Review 40:Location
Review 41:Description said it had air conditioning, but in actuality had window unit swamp cooler. Access to the room was via rickety exterior stairs. Beds were wobbly.
Review 42:The price and cleanliness.
Review 43:Cleanliness not really up to snuff: trash and dust under bed, mirror was so smeary I re-cleaned it myself. Security on door was nonexistent; just a doorknob lock. Kitchen and bathroom windows need screens and front window needs room-darkening drapes. Hard to find staff on phone or in person, but once found they are very nice and helpful.
Review 44:Our room (24) with kitchenette was spacious and well supplied. Mattresses were very comfortable and plenty of pillows supplied. Wifi and cable TV worked fine. Water pressure great. Could have walked into town, about 1 mile. Very homey.
Review 45:Stairs a bit narrow and was hoping for a pool Luke on the website. C
Review 46:Very private and quiet rooms. Like having a real key! Staff very friendly and accommodating when we needed anything. Room was cozy on backside if hotel and had a private deck shared with only the other upstairs toom.
Review 47:We liked pretty much everything. The toilet could use some work.
Review 48:So much better than a chain hotel. So much character! The room was awesome. Comfortable and the front porch was the best.
Review 49:Needs freshening up. Air never cooled off. Refrigerator was unplugged and too sour to use. Beds were hard.
Review 50:Convenient. Very welcoming staff who voluneeded to stay late if we needed a late arrival time.
Review 51:The room was musty when first entering, the a/c was undersized, the attended wasn't familiar with the operation to the cooling system, tub area was updated but did not have safety handles, no safety lock on outer door and fresh towels was left when returned late in the evening.
Review 52:Location excellent, parking ample, they called us verifying our time of arrival due to our running late.
Review 53:Only 1 lock on door. Towels were very small and a dark navy color not sure how clean they were. There was no arrangement for coffee in the room.
Review 54:The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was spacious.
Review 55:Paper thin walls, room separated from owners quarters by only a thin door, woman took liberty to charge my prepaid card ever time there was money on it after we left, if there was 60 left she took it all, only 8.32? She took that too! Had to get a new card
Review 56:The suite was nice
Review 57:There was no outlet for hair dryer in the vanity area. There was one in the bed area but no mirror. The room was dark and smelled strongly of some type of heating fuel that gave me a headache. Even though it was a cold night we turned on the A/C which helped the smell but the A/C grill was very dirty
Review 58:It was an available room that did not cost a lot of money
Review 59:Smoke smell was strong . We planned for 2 nights but they wouldn't let us cancel except to pay for half another night stay. We paid and left. Not a lot of amenities and the price was the same as a nearly new hotel down the street.
Review 60:Friendly. The location was fine.
Review 61:No breakfast , no coffee, no vending machine ,no snacks only a coin operated bubble gum machine with candy in it sitting outside near the ice machine .
Review 62:The convenience to everything and a nice location. Family owned and friendly staff!
Review 63:Adorable small hotel just outside of town. Very friendly staff, clean and comfy room, quiet and cute. We loved that it was family owned and had an intimate feel, unlike chain hotels.
Review 64:No coffee maker; no morning coffee/B'Fast in office (office also closed), no ice bucket in room, poor parking arrangements.
Review 65:Convenience to town.
Review 66:Narrow stairs up to room with big chunk of frozen snow at the bottom pretty treacherous. Picture on television was terrible--staff just kind of shrugged shoulders like "sorry dude!"
Review 67:Great bathtub, radiant heat, comfy room and bed.
Review 68:It was close to the train station and main street but we still had to drive and park to get there. People couple walk in about 15 minutes or so if weather permits.
Review 69:We had a group so renting the suite plus one more room worked good or us. Next time we plan to rent both suites that are connected for our two families.
Review 70:The walk into town is a bit annoying, 15 mins on a busy road. Not a huge problem.
Review 71:The room was very large and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was a bit run down but had a good vibe.
Review 72:Bed was lumpy and not the most comfy. Towels and bathroom stuff was low end. All fairly appropriate for the price
Review 73:This was just about right for the price. Nothing special, but comfey and warm for the nice. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 74:I'd indicated in my booking that I had a cat. Upon arrival I was told they didn't take cats and hadn't received the note. I offered to go elsewhere, so they allowed my cat. I asked the man in the office where to have breakfast, he said, "Uh, I guess across the street" where, indeed, there was a hotel with a restaurant, but I was looking for more knowledge.
Review 75:Convenient drive to downtown and historic. Parking right in front of room. Large room.
Review 76:Even though the facility is near a high traffic highway, the room was quiet once the door was closed. Did not hear a vehicle, including trucks, during the night. Good overhang to avoid the rain while going back and forth to the car.
Review 77:expensive, no breakfast included, parking limited, bed sagged, linens & towels dark blue soi impossible to determine if they were clean, old small TV
Review 78:easy acess from highway
Review 79:There was no coffee in the room nor in the office in the morning.
Review 80:It was a comfortable motel within walking distance of the downtown, albeit a good walk.
Review 81:Lack of towels and additional pillows in the room. Bath towels were hand towel size. staff did provide additional towels and pillows upon request, shower curtains were dirty
Review 82:location, close to restaurants, walking trails, and the railroad to Silverton, beds were comfortable and fair cost
Review 83:Staff not available to answer phone from unit..not at office when we checked. Room not clean enough, dirty inder bed, fan not clean, kitchen window covered with lime deposits from rain.
Review 84:Price was better than other places.
Review 85:Bedding was old and thin. No night staff for emergencies like lost key which there was only one key. The bath towels were extremely small almost like hand towels and very thin at that. We had to ask for extras.
Review 86:The location
Review 87:No smoking was allowed in the rooms.
Review 88:It was an old timey motel. Panel walls,no breakfast, coffee only if you asked but, it was cute. The price was right.
Review 89:Room was a bit outdated like the tv and the wall heater. The sheets didnt smell clean and I dont think they were clean(used our own blanket and slept on top of the sheets/blanket), if a room wasnt occupied the door was left wide open, parking lot was hard to get in and out of in a full size truck and there wasnt an extra security lock on the door.
Review 90:It was a little noisy. I would have liked to have a fridge in the room.
Review 91:Good Location - A short drive to the train. Good value for the money. The staff was very helpful. The rooms smelled clean. Free Wi-Fi!
Review 92:Sofa bed was ok. seemed to dip down on the left corner for some reason, but I slept fine on it. Would have liked a blanket, it only had a sheet. Also an extra towel would have been nice. the room only had 2...and if there are 3 beds, there should have been 3 towels
Review 93:Very clean. We were just needing a place overnight as we were riding the train the next morning. Nice to have a sofa bed and 2 other beds as there were 3 of us singles traveling together. I would definately stay there again.
Review 94:Great location for lodging, shopping, meals, gas and morning lattes. This is the second time we've stayed here. The first was eight years ago. and area has really grown. The rooms were different in size and location on the property but both comfort, clean and quite. My husband enjoyed playing golf at the Hiilcrest Golf Course on top of the hill in Durango, CO. Will be staying here again in the future.
Review 95:All that was provided in the room were two tiny bars of soap -- not even shampoo. Forget about conditioner or body lotion. No coffee maker or microwave in the room. No breakfast. I was not looking for fancy -- Super 8's are fine for me, but this was really inconvenient and surprising.
Review 96:Not much. The bed was comfortable and the place was clean though very shabby. The wifi worked.
Review 97:If I had to be picky....maybe more parking spaces.
Review 98:Pet friendly, clean, and fair price. The sfaff was nice too. We were only spending one night in Durango, so we weren't needing too much. This place fit our needs perfectly!
Review 99:Accessing the "penthouse" required walking through double parked vehicles, down the side of the building, around the back, across a weed lot with a single row of flagstones, past the laundry room, up the wooden (paint peeling) stairs. The "suite" included a room with no furnishings except a rollaway bed standing in the middle. We moved on to a more pleasant facility across the street, but they still charged my card so I get to express my opinion.
Review 100:No real wifi connectivity in my room. No iron or hairdryer. The kitchen stovetop would not light without a match and no lighter or matches in kitchen.
Review 101:This is a great little place to stay However I was initially disappointed in website booking.com accuracy of room descriptions. When I re-examined the website, I realized I may have misinterpreted them. Per website Each room includes a sofa, cable TV and a kitchen with a microwave and a refrigerator The kitchen located in bathroom area, includes a shared lavatory sink and small microwave and refrigerator. The sofa in our double room was a small table and 2 chairs. We enjoy in-unit kitchen facilities to prepare a meal and a sofa as an option for a tossy, turney, restless night, next stay I will be sure to book one of those rooms.
Review 102:Rooms were good size comfortable and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. Location is great easy access to HWY160 and 550.
Review 103:No in-room coffee or coffee maker. No shampoo or conditioner. No inside deadbolt lock or auxiliary door lock.
Review 104:Remodeled older motel, in good condition. Comfortable king size bed, clean room and environment.
Review 105:What was advertised was not available. Refrigerator No, Called office and they cleaned one up and brought it too the room. Coffee pot No, Called office and it showed up. Microwave never did show up and no hair dryer
Review 106:Very clean, good location Very interesting young lady at check in very short shorts studs in the lips were ok and the tank top with no bra was ok also
Review 107:Our room was spotless and very comfortable. We were at an event and could not check in until after 11 PM. The owner made arrangements for us to get the keys, and called before he left the office to remind us of the room number, and to let us know he put paperwork in the room for us. Our team has travelled a lot over the last 3 years and this was one of the nicest experiences ever. We will definitely use again next year.
Review 108:After 3 of us checked in at about 6 pm, we found only 2 towels in the room. Went back to reception but it was closed and pressing the 'service' button had no effect. Called reception on the phone, answering machine and left a message but by the time we departed at 8am the following morning, still no-one in office and no towel...service not bad, only non-existent.
Review 109:Not much
Review 110:No electrical outlet in the bathroom!! Where do I plug in my dryer/curling iron?
Review 111:This new management has the right idea! Affordable for the frequent business traveler, very clean, comfortable, everything works. I got the coffee kit from the office which I hope will be standard in the rooms.
Review 112:The bed looked like it had been remade since the last customer but sheets had not been changed. There was only one hand towel sized towel for all uses for two people.
Review 113:Front desk staff was friendly, accommodating, helpful and knowledgable about the area. Location was very close to downtown Durango and easy to get to. Cost of room was very reasonable.
Review 114:Proprietor was very friendly and helpful, and the room was very clean. I was really pleased to have made the reservation here, and would certainly do so again.
Review 115:Coffee equipment in room was incomplete. I could not make coffee in the morning.
Review 116:I was comfortable.
Review 117:Filthy room. Hasn't been updated in 30 years. Parking is horrible. Had to parallel park in front of our room.
Review 118:Good location
Review 119:Simple, family owned. Almost a flash from the past when things were personal and pleasant.
Review 120:The only thing I did not like was the bed. It was a old and lumpy.
Review 121:It was close to the college and town. The staff was friendly and rooms very clean,
Review 122:One minor suggestion...pillow and towels need updating.
Review 123:The room was spotless. Very comfortable setting.
Review 124:Put my sign out for Maid service and they never cleaned our room. Had to go get towels from the office and made our bed ourselves.
Review 125:Shower was poor and the rooms were a little noisy.
Review 126:Good location for our activities.
Review 127:Not downtown, or within walking distance. Hotel was adequate, but not special.
Review 128:Hotel was clean.
Review 129:Everything was great- but Durango is an expensive place to stay.
Review 130:Very nice hosts! Comfy, clean and large room.
Review 131:The convenience to attractions.
Review 132:Refused to honor Booking.com rate.
Review 133:location
Review 134:Old. A little run down.
Review 135:Decent accommodation
