Reviews for Iron Horse Inn

Review 1:Beds are hard, but we knew that from previous review and previous stay.

Review 2:Good location, front desk personnel very friendly and helpful. Love the upstairs bedroom.

Review 3:Great location. Fun watching the steam engine go by several times a day. Close to town but far enough away to get the country feeling. Homemade waffle for breakfast every day was great. My sons enjoyed playing in the snow in the big field out back.Having a loft made the room seem much larger and view out of the upstairs windows was awesome..

Review 4:I've never seen a place that you couldn't check in early. I made notes on my reservation that I would be traveling all night and needed an early check in. Staff didn't care. Then when I arrived at 1130am they were closed from 11am till 3pm. The staff or owner saw us at the office door and didn't even bother to ask if they could help. Next, once we did get in the room after 3, the frig did not work. To add insult to injury, there was no tv to watch in the rooms for our three day stay due to the cable not working. No tv. We were sitting in room twirling our thumbs as the weather out was bad and snowing at times. Then, breakfast was minut as they only offer waffles muffins and juice. I've seen bigger continental breakfasts at a Motel 6. I understand things happen but whatever happen to establishments who really care about their clients/customers? Managers who actually want repeat clients? We were not offered any type of discount on our stay or on a return. This place is nice but leaves a lot to be desired in the customer service arena. Rating ** out of 5.

Review 5:The up stairs loft layout. The fireplace was nice too. Location on the the local transit route.

Review 6:Breakfast not the best... No firewood... bathrooms outdated ...

Review 7:Comfy clean beds, nice TVs , fireplace good location .. beautiful view... loved the loft

Review 8:very old even though sign said updated, free breakfast was worth every penny i.e. not good. good value for a family with the extra bedroom loft upstairs.

Review 9:The neighbor next door was a smoker and we could smell it in our room.

Review 10:Pleasantly surprised with the cheerful and kind staff. The rooms were better than what I was expecting.

Review 11:A little bit hard to find at night.

Review 12:The ease of parking on site, as well as the $1.00 trolley into town were helpful for someone who has done a lot of driving to get to the area.

Review 13:There were monthly renters there who kept asking for things like ciggarettes. Very uncomfortable with that.

Review 14:The room was set up nicely, however; the drywall was exposed like they started a project and didnt finish it.

Review 15:Aging property, looked absolutely nothing like the photos. Heater was broken and wouldn't turn off without being unplugged went from warm to hot.

Review 16:The price and the fireplace

Review 17:could have done with small shop to get milk, ETC but shop about one mile down road, so a nice walk on a sunday(local bus monday-friday)

Review 18:great for the railway and great views

Review 19:It's got a strained wood decor, I'm more of a painted white trim person. But honestly, it's a motel, do I really care? No. The value makes up for it!

Review 20:We stayed here as a last minute decision. Durango is one expensive place but the Iron Horse Inn was very reasonable. (Which had me a little scared.) My worries were needless as we found our suite to be very nice! There was a queen size bed on the main level along with a kitchenette and bathroom (with jetted tub!) Also downstairs was a small table and chairs, tv and lots of built in cabinets--would be great storage if one had a lengthy stay. The staircase led you upstairs to a loft area with another queen size bed, and tv. I think the upstairs could be rearranged to make it "flow" better, but that's just me. We were able able to catch up on emails with the free WiFi. Breakfast was great in the spacious rooms across from the office. We had a rail-side room, it was fun to watch the steam engine drive past. Beyond the railroad tracks was a beautiful mountain vista. I found the note about bears to be a little amusing. I mean, really, how many places will you stay where you actually have to be warned about feeding the bears? Obviously, I would take all precautions but I can't wait to scrapbook my stay for this visit. :) We decided we'd like to come back to Durango and when we do, we'll be staying at the Iron Horse Inn.

Review 21:Just a little too far out of the town for interstate travellers.

Review 22:Great surroundings, good staff, very good continental breakfast, great breakfast room with open fire place and TV. Terrific split level twin rooms with open fireplace.

Review 23:Only thing is it was dated. Could really use an update. But still I would stay again.

Review 24:Location location location. It was nice to watch the train in the morning.

Review 25:Reception was fast and friendly. Liked the breakfast and the room. Two rooms so the kids had their own space and TV. Liked everything about our stay.

Review 26:Beds were very comfortable. Hotel a little dated. Nice having separate sleeping area upstairs- note that there is only a box fan upstairs, was able to crack window and be comfortable.

Review 27:nothing

Review 28:Room felt so spacious with an upstairs bedroom loft and vaulted ceilings. Great breakfast. Stayed in a trackside unit and watched the stream engine go by. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 29:Walls were very thin. Could hear conversations next door and dog barking next door.

Review 30:Beauty of location. Ability to see valley and historic train come by.

Review 31:We wish breakfast was served a little later than 10am - we like to sleep in.

Review 32:We loved the spacious room and it was so convenient to be able to park right in front of the door to our room! Everything, except for the price, was more than we expected in a good way!

Review 33:What a good idea to have a bed upstairs and one downstairs. We are considering travelling with our niece next year so will book again as she can have her own 'space'

Review 34:Not really a bad experience, just peculiar. There were coffee cups but no coffee maker. A few other inconsistencies.

Review 35:The location turned out to be a nice surprise in that it was next to the Dur.Silverton narrow gauge rail and we could watch this popular train go by. If, however, your room faced the other way, it would not be as pleasant. The physical setup of rooms peculiar in that it was a 2 story with second bed upstairs. But lots of room.

Review 36:Initial smell of cleaning products. Light fixtures inadequate

Review 37:Bed was comfortable. Liked that Ed had a call about clothes left in drawer which weren't ours

Review 38:Bed was saggy and needs more light.

Review 39:Great location outside of Durango on the way to Silverton. Out of the traffic. Great staff! Awesome big public ice machine!

Review 40:The location is good for being out of town but you need to plan ahead or drive if you want to go eat/for entertainment.

Review 41:Good value for two separate sleepers.

Review 42:Honestly the only downside the room didn't have a coffee maker and he upper level was very hot in the middle of the night..

Review 43:We liked the value of the property, and that it was bi-level room so you didn't feel to crowded.

Review 44:Used shampoo bottles left for our use, patched unfinished walls, wet carpet, poor room temperature control, bursts of scalding hot water during shower

Review 45:Location

Review 46:Very quiet. Great staff. Room was excellent, very clean. The new owners are in the process of remodeling their rooms and trying very hard to over come what was a past negative reputation from previous owners. They are doing a GREAT job.

Review 47:The bathroom needs to have more safety features. The bathtub was not slip resistant so we were afraid of falling.

Review 48:The two bedrooms, one upstairs and one on the main level was just perfect for my family! I also really enjoyed the trackside room so I could take beautiful pictures of the train as it passed by.

Review 49:Problems with electricity circuits - could not charge any phones, use of wall plugs would shut down the whole unit.

Review 50:Excellent location and facilities. Two-level suites are very convenient for family stay.

Review 51:We arrived 30 minutes before the check in time and the staff person was rude and would not check us in early. Also, the carpet would turn your feet black if you walked on the floor barefooted. We had to wear shoes the entire time.

Review 52:There was a lot of space for the price which was nice.

Review 53:Breakfast starts only at 7. Most hotels have breakfast between 6 and 9. We had to leave by 7 and so were forced to skip breakfast.

Review 54:The location was great. Surrounded by mountains.

Review 55:Disconnected with the staff. We were there a week and were not really asked about our visit.

Review 56:The pool was nice. I liked the large refrigerator also. Everything was comfortable enough to relax. The staff was pleasant but not real friendly. Maybe they were too busy.

Review 57:Half of the motel was occupied by permanent residents, not the best you can think of.....

Review 58:It is a reasonable place for a short stay in Durango, two miles out of town. The steam train passing by right in front six times a day is funny

Review 59:Location was on outskirts of town. Hard to find in the dark

Review 60:We loved the split level rooms. Our 21 year old son was with us. The room set up gave both Us and him some privacy

Review 61:Not enough lighting. Not enough plug ins. Small bathroom.

Review 62:Checking in was easy, room was clean, excellant location, quiet! The upstairs area with the bed and TV was a plus! Definately will stay there again!!

Review 63:The breakfast is pretty weak. Needs some protein like hard boiled eggs. Also needs some fruit.

Review 64:Location was good. Being near the Durango & Silverton train track was a plus. It was nice to watch the trains go by.

Review 65:We didn't have a bad experience, but some fruit would be nice for breakfast as an option, though English tea was nice!

Review 66:It was the most wonderful stay - the Durango Silverton railway line was within metres of the bedroom- and such fun to be part of this daily travel by waving to passengers! The staff were very friendly and they couldn't do enough to help. Bedroomns were spacious and clean, the shower was fine and the swimming pool was good if you wanted it. the laundry was a very useful addition and the staff were always pleased to help if required.

Review 67:We didn't get to stay long enough .

Review 68:The place was great. Shelton was friendly, helpful and always had a smile on his face. The kids loved the strawberry pancakes. Overall it was awesome. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Review 69:Kitchen needed a few supplies. It would have been nice to have plates and paper towels.

Review 70:I really like that it was away from the road and all the noise. It was really cool to be able to see the Durango Silverton train -and it wasn't noisy like an Amtrac train.

Review 71:The general grounds were run down, outdated and grimy. The rooms were dark and outdated with older furniture. No coffee in the room was tough for us since we are early risers and breakfast stars at 7. Our fridge was also tiny and broken. Breakfast was minimal with few healthier items. No fruit, no water.

Review 72:Liked the set up of the rooms with one bed upstairs and loved the pool - it was new with a spectacular view.

Review 73:Nothing

Review 74:Super helpful staff great dinner recommendation in town. I'm a train buff so the track-side room couldn't have been better, Updated rooms are great

Review 75:There were very few choices of what to eat for breakfast.

Review 76:The view of the mountains is beautiful. The pool is nice. The rooms are two stores and are amazing. So far, it's been the best hotel I've stayed in.

Review 77:Exterior was in need of paint and grounds need care. Some furniture was worn out, torn, and should be replaced.

Review 78:Location,bedding, towels were very clean and plentiful

Review 79:The bed upstairs sagged in the middle making it difficult to sleep without rolling toward each other.

Review 80:Having an upstairs area and two TVs was a huge plus!!

Review 81:Nice older place right next to Durango Silverton train tracks Fun to watch the old steam train go by. Very friendly staff Close enough to Durango but out of the noise The place is a little dated but we thought it was just fine

Review 82:I tried to plug in a charger and was severely shocked. I think the lamp that was also plugged into that outlet had a short in it. I told the desk clerk, but nothing was done to correct the problem by the time we left a day later. Also the breakfast needs to open by 6 a.m. every day so that people can get to Mesa Verde or to the train station early. 7 a.m. is too late.

Review 83:I enjoyed my view of the Durango-Silverton train, which is why I booked this hotel. I liked that there were two rooms, because my friend likes to sleep with the television on and the air conditioner very high. I took the upstairs room, which was quiet and warmer.

Review 84:Upstair bedroom was hot, we wished that would be an AC up there? Also, bathroom drain was draing so slow. Remodeling of bathroom and replace carpet would make this place an awesome place.

Review 85:The room was spacious. It was a cute place the fact was that two beds were saperated.

Review 86:shower was finicky and it was difficult to maintain the proper temperature.

Review 87:the room is two story and it was fun for my daughter to have the loft. The rooms in the back face the Durango & Silverton tracks and it was neat to wake up to the whistle and watch it pass through the window.

Review 88:Facilities were very deceiving from online pics/reviews!! Right nextto the train tracks!! Sketchy!! Price way too high! They don't keeptheir agreement.

Review 89:Jeff (desk mgr) was nice, but according to main mgr he didn't knowwhat he was talking about when he said I could recieve a partial refund!Sue didn't even know her own policy because her reasons keptchanging every time I proved her wrong.

Review 90:The location was great, the staff was friendly, the room was super clean and comfy. The pool was well taken care of. I was very happy with our stay there. And the breakfast room was a nice plus!

Review 91:Rooms not very clean. We stayed 2 nights and the second day we were there came back at seven in the evening to find our rooms were not cleaned. The maid went in and took all the towels; which was the only thing she did. We called the front desk to complain and the manager hung up on us. Had to go in to the office. Twenty minutes later a maid showed up with too many towels and no apology. Next morning we went to the breakfast room and found lots of spider webs on the walls. Not very appealing. We will never stay there again.

Review 92:It would have been nice if breakfast included more fresh fruit.

Review 93:Great location. Good price. Really fun layout - my son enjoyed staying in the loft area. We appreciated you putting us next door to our friends with a pass-through so we didn't have to go outside to visit with each other.

Review 94:The air conditioner kept freezing up. The upstairs was hot. Thank goodness it wasn't really hot and we were able to open windows and use fans to keep cool.

Review 95:Loved the amount of space we had in the room. Loved the location and the chance to be outside.

Review 96:The tub was continually clogged, old bathrooms, could be perfect if the owner seemed to care about updating because it's quaint and perfect old west theme.

Review 97:Perfect location, nice staff, fireplaces, great suites.

Review 98:The bathroom tub & sink was stained and the faucet woundn't turn off. There were no cups or wastebaskets in the room. The window drapery were ripped and hard to open. The carpet was dirty and old.

Review 99:WiFi was very weak. I was leaving at 7am, room where ice machine was located did not open until 9am.

Review 100:The staff was very helpful. Room c lean, bed was do comfortable. Location beautiful

Review 101:Great property for families. Bi-level room provides extra bedroom with a little more space. Pool looked good! Room was clean and had fridge and microwave, but no coffee maker...my only complaint. Loved watching the trains. A little far from center of town, but trolley service close and really only a short drive. Breakfast plentiful and nice clean area for food and eating. Staff very helpful.

Review 102:Check in was cumbersome, as I booked all the rooms, my credit card wascharged and had to be refunded, which was not completed

Review 103:Breakfast was good and there was plenty of room and tables

Review 104:It was not the fault of management, but 3 younger men felt the need to smoke pot in the apartment next to us. The management was called and quickly cleaned up the problem. Thanks to Justen

Review 105:Loved the second story. It would be great with kids, or grandkids. If give them (and you) privacy.

Review 106:The only thing I would suggest is that you where shoes in the rooms...carpets need to be cleaned.

Review 107:The beds were VERY comfortable. Staff was extremely nice. On the edge of town..Quiet.

Review 108:Our room, a two story suite , was a bit dark, which could be fixed with a white or near white paint. The sound and light from the adjoining room came through the connecting doors. They need to be sealed better in the frames. The carpets could use a good scrub.

Review 109:Location out of town was quiet at night, breakfast was good and in a clean spacious room, staff was cordial, the view across the railroad tracks of a meadow and mountain was lovely.

Review 110:It was not as clean as I would like. There was a wet spot on the carpet that was concerning but we were only staying for a few hours so I just walked around it. We were catching a very early flight.

Review 111:The room could use an update but I like the bi-level floor plan and the fireplace.

Review 112:Nothing was bad to note, although if you plan on sleeping during the day, this is not the hotel for you. The narrow gauge train passes right by.

Review 113:Amazing view of a mountain right out your window. Uncommon split level suite. Friendly counter people quick to answer even the most novice of questions.

Review 114:My favorite thing about this hotel was the staff, especially Shelton, he was a fantastic help in a variety of ways, and was so understanding! Best hotel experience I've ever had! If I am in Durango again you can be sure I will be at the Iron horse! If I rated it out of 1-10 it would be a 12!

Review 115:The pictures on the net were not true to form and the one especially on the deck which I wanted to sit on and enjoy the view... not sure where it was or at all. Would never stay again.

Review 116:hummmmm...

Review 117:The room we stayed in was poorly cleaned. We found hair in the tub, chewed gum in a corner, the bathroom sink leaked underneath the cupboard, and found dryer sheets on the floor.

Review 118:The staff was very nice

Review 119:Unfortunately we felt scammed, this place had good reviews and a great website. The place was really dirty, and we were staying there for 4 days. We immediately went to the store and bought cleaning supplies to clean the place ourselves. Also, the website says there is a kitchenette in rooms, but we only had a microwave, so had to keep food in a cooler for a week.

Review 120:It was nice to be able to work from the hotel room, the WiFi was very quick. There were also very good views from the top bedroom. It was also nice to have the upstairs loft.

Review 121:no hot tub no hairdryer 1 of the beds was sunk in window to upstairs room to dirty to see out of

Review 122:location view of the mountain train was cool to wake up to

Review 123:Coffee for breakfast was really bad, luckily, we'd brought our own little coffee maker, no hot tub, they said the pool was heated but didn't feel very warm, other than that the place was great! Soul definitely stay there again.

Review 124:LOVED the location of being in the back of the motel where there were picnic tables we could sit at and watch the train (steam train) go by! Room was cozy, liked the bi-level concept. Room was clean, beds done up nice, trolley stop was close by, great view of mountains from our room, staff very friendly,- just a refreshing "mom &pop" kinda place. Kind of out of the way but that's what made it feel so private.

Review 125:the rooms were dimly lit and the mattresses are at least 10 years past their prime. some general maintenance needs to be done, but this was a nice quiet place to spend a couple of nights and close to a variety of restaurant about 10 minutes away

Review 126:Water was hot, staff was friendly and courteous. The free breakfast had adequate variety. It was nice and quiet and liked the multi level room. Great view of the mountain behind the hotel, the Silverton train runs right by the hotel.

Review 127:Breakfast room was very dirty and needs a staff person to supervise guests. Cereal, spilled coffee, waffle machine and/or batter issue, no one throwing out the milk containers (quarts, nice actually) now I know why the chains have staff during breakfast. Office staff seemed overworked, tired. Hotel is very large, may be overwhelming, lots of potential.

Review 128:Good value for expensive town. Location outside of town, but with big bonus of seeing the Durango-Silverton train pass the hotel and even blow the whistle. Very nice view of mountains, peaceful setting. Durango seemed to have parking, so driving in would not be a big hassle. Room layout was fun and great for family or groups, not 100% private, but two TVs and two spaces. Room was clean. Nice pool and biggest Rainbow play system ever.

Review 129:Wish that there was some protein for breakfast. It was all carbs.

Review 130:It is off the road so it feels quiet and a little secluded. Love that the trolley goes back and forth into town all the time so you don't have to drive if you don't want. Having the train go by is also pretty cool, especially with the mountains behind it.

Review 131:With the exception of man who worked in the evening, who was great, the rest of the staff was pretty uninterested. I wish the wifi extended into the rooms.

Review 132:There was lots of room to spread out/ We had been traveling for a while so to have a loft room was terrific. It was quiet. the train was right behind the hotel which was fun to see a few times a day. The continental breakfast was nice and the eating area large. I went there every morning to do work because the wifi reached there.

Review 133:Plumbing needed some work

Review 134:Separate rooms

Review 135:Fireplace, view, relaxing environent

Review 136:Fireplace
