Reviews for Des Lux Hotel
Review 1:Other half of staff very disrespectful and rude. Cost of food and beverages ridiculous. One of the sinks in my bathroom, the drain pipe and trap were completely disconnected. Told front desk. Nothing done.
Review 2:Pretty decent place. Beds were not bad. Some of staff was friendly.
Review 3:We wish there was less traffic outside, and not be able to hear the "boy racers" at night on Locust.
Review 4:The staff was really helpful, lovely and imaginative décor and breakfast super good, esp Joe the chef. Reception very kind and accommodating. Super bed.
Review 5:Parking. Either across the street or valet-both at your own expense.
Review 6:Staff was very accommodating and the room was wonderful. Bed was very comfortable and things were very clean.
Review 7:I was taking to the concert but the van couldn't pick me up , because it was to late. wished they told me before hand.
Review 8:everything was great a nice stay to just get away
Review 9:the street noise was a tad loud when trying to go bed. not too bad though.
Review 10:The rooms were absolutely gorgeous! Fire place, high ceilings with a ceiling fan! I felt like I was in someones room at home versus a hotel!
Review 11:Breakfast was average at best but was complementary so can't complain.
Review 12:The King bed was amazing. Free shuttle for guests. Spa and steam room were great addition.
Review 13:I was craving chips and did not find a vending machine but I could get them at the front desk, but not a good selection.
Review 14:Loved it here!! The staff was excellent, the room was perfect, bed was amazingly soft and breakfast delicious! !! My sister and I walked around downtown taking great architectural pictures and many inside the hotel including ones with the butler.
Review 15:There was a mix-up with our reservation and we were given keys to two rooms that were already occupied. Then placed in a room that was obviously for overflow for the night. Correct room given the next day.
Review 16:Room was very nice once we were put in the correct one.
Review 17:I had one lady at the front desk make a smart comment but I just went with it instead of causing a scene. Whathe we were doing there was none of her business and she didn't need to ask personal questions. I understand if she was trying to have a conversation but when they ask questions that she doesn't need to ask nor does she need to have her own opinion then that's just rude. I loved the rest of the staff and they did good on the room just that one particular person I did not like and it made me uncomfortable to stay there because of her.
Review 18:It was classy and the room felt like home.
Review 19:Nothing
Review 20:My room was very large and well appointed. 55" tv that went straight to channels and did not try to sale me anything. Very comfortable bed and pillows. All staff were very polite and helpful. I only stayed at this hotel because the one I stayed at the night before was full, but next time I am in town, this hotel will be my first choice. The breakfast was wonderful with made to order omelettes. The lobby was very nice as well.
Review 21:For the Luxury suite we stayed in, fireplace, whirlpool, I was shocked to see lightbulbs burnt out at the vanity, the counter it's self was broken and pushed into an open shelf under the sink, and the shower head was broke, so one had to huddle near the front where the nozzle hung! Its the small things like that that make it not worth the value. We pay extra to stay in nice suites, expecting them to be maintained.f
Review 22:Loved the building, décor and all. Close to all the down town places we planned on going to.
Review 23:The bartender in the lounge was the only staff member that was not friendly or courteous. We spoke to the front desk about it, and they said they had heard that from other guests, but they were happy we had brought it to their attention and they were going to work on that issue.
Review 24:All was great! Beautiful rooms, great staff, great location. Lovely stay, and would do it again!
Review 25:For as much as it cost it was just little petty things. Like not all the tv channels where full hd. No way to rent movies. Like I said nothing bad just little things that would be nice
Review 26:It would have been nice to know where to park beforehand. The room was a little chilly without the fireplace burning
Review 27:The room was spacious and I love the fireplace. The breakfast was absolutely delicious.
Review 28:The night life in the surrounding area was loud until around 2 a.m. not the hotel's fault but the racing traffic and obnoxious people outside kept me up for hours.
Review 29:The historic hotel was pretty and nicely remodeled. The work out facility and spa were very nice as well.
Review 30:Furniture looked like it was from goodwill. There were none of the standard offerings in the room that you would expect in a 4-star hotel (no bathrobe, cheap towels). The lampshade was disgusting as were the walls in the bathroom. Housekeeping was poor leaving our dirty dishes in our room and not replacing them. While the advertised shuttle service the hotel was so understaffed when we were there that there was no one to run the shuttle. We won't be going back.
Review 31:Omelet bar on the mornings that they staffed it (they had no back up). The hotel was quiet because no one was there. The room was dark so good to sleep in.
Review 32:Room was too large - could be a semi-suite, but there was no desk and no armchairs. The layout is rather odd and it just felt like wasted spaced. The wifi was very slow and I ended up having to use the wifi connection on my phone. The TV in the bar/restaurant was cranked up much of the time, which kind of wrecked the cozy, warm atmosphere of the lobby. Almost all of the faucets in the room leaked, leaving large puddles of water on the counters.
Review 33:The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom counter was big enough to spread out all my makeup; the gas fireplace was a nice little touch, especially since it was about 10 degrees outside.
Review 34:My only complaint was the fitness room. Some of the equipment needed to be updated and serviced - for example the upright stationary bike didn't work. Also, both dry and steam saunas were dirty with grit and some mold on the floors, and I was unable to elevate the temperature, so didn't use them. When I was ready to go into the whirlpool, I stepped into ice cold water! Thus ended my relaxing soak. Other than this, the morning coffee was weak and luke warm.
Review 35:The staff at the front desk was wonderful and very accommodating for my husband and my 25th anniversary. In fact, they upgraded us from the King Delux room to one of the Gateway Suites with no added charge as there was room availability. Our suite featured beautiful wood floors, granite bar area, fireplace, and whirlpool tub. While my husband and I renewed our wedding vows in front of the fireplace of the intimate lobby, the staff was upstairs preparing a lovely table with white table cloth and setting for 4 in our suite. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Des Moines with excellent access to shops, restaurants and theatre. I will always have very fond memories!
Review 36:There was some traffic noise.
Review 37:The lobby had a fireplace and was decorated for Christmas. We had great specialty drinks in the bar. The room was spacious. The breakfast was free and included made to order omelettes and waffles. We enjoyed our stay.
Review 38:The shower had a really weak stream. It was the only problem we had with the room. It got us clean, but it was not great.
Review 39:Location, staff, and breakfast were great. The room was spacious for a single-bed room.
Review 40:The heat in my room was nonexistent on a below freezing night. The hotel bar was suppose to close at 2:00am actually closes whenever the the bar tender feels it is slow.
Review 41:The rooms where very clean almost new.
Review 42:The controls for the spa did not work, it was angry bubbles or no bubbles.
Review 43:Went there on our wedding night, great place but no secure parking for guests.
Review 44:Cars racing around downtown late at night. It is out of your control, but why don't the police take care of it?
Review 45:The location is great and parking was free over the weekend.
Review 46:nothing to dislike
Review 47:The rooms are beautiful and the bath and shower are excellent. The location is the heart of downtown. The guy who makes omelettes in the morning is the best.
Review 48:I didn't like that the suite didn't have a jetted tub
Review 49:Room was comfortable and very nice
Review 50:The thermostat in room 401 didn't work
Review 51:Almost everything
