Reviews for Aloha Happy Place

Review 1:For a B&B, the breakfast was absolutely pitiful. Nothing hot, no hard boiled eggs (as advertised), cereals looked old and stale (and store brand only), no cream for coffee. Only decent thing was the banana bread. We left very hungry and extremely disappointed.

Review 2:Joan and Courtney were very hospitable and the rooms were nice. Provided ice for our cooler. Perfect location if you're exploring VNP.

Review 3:There is no air-conditioner,so it's a little cold at night

Review 4:It's not a hotel, just as a room of home.I like the library downstairs, and it's quite near the Volcano National Park, only 6 minutes drive, and the breakfast is good

Review 5:Disappointed we couldn't leave luggage at the B&B earlier in the day, a few hours before check in time.

Review 6:Proximity -5 mins to volcano for most time in the national park. Easily able to stay late and be there before sunrise. Accom was warm, inviting and had a lovely homely feel and decor.

Review 7:Poor breakfast, boring cereals, with sour milk! Very basic,. They seemed to only be concerned about the BIG House rules ,not very welcoming.

Review 8:A very beautiful old house

Review 9:The beds were a bit too soft. Breakfast was good but not out of the ordinary. We would have liked eggs for breakfast.

Review 10:This is a working farm with lots of animals such as cats, friendly goats, rabbits, duck, many varieties of lovely chickens and huge turkeys, horses etc but the main house is gracious and very comfortable and old- fashioned in just the right way. The owner Joan was welcoming and patient with all our questions about the farm! The check in and out was self serve so that we didn't meet any staff until next morning, but this made us feel "trusted" and at home, like welcoming your cousin to visit. Breakfast was good but not out of the ordinary.

Review 11:It's a working farm, so be prepared for roosters crowing early.

Review 12:Cozy B&B one mile from volcanoes national park. Helpful staff and owner. Nothing fancy, but a comfortable, reasonably priced accommodation for the area.

Review 13:Not there for fun/family illness

Review 14:separate quarters great for family time lunches or dinners. Animals out back door. Lovely feel & Joan is a wonderful person-provides coats, slippers, flash lights, umbrellas & sensored lites

Review 15:It was really a neat place. There were numerous movie DVD's and music CD's. We really enjoyed the breakfast and getting the chance to meet others and compare traveling experiences.

Review 16:Nothing unexpected, but things were pretty old. My bed was slanted, had to wait a bit to get hot water in the morning. Since it's a farmhouse, animals will wake you up in the morning.

Review 17:It's a cozy house away from everyone else. They also gave us a simple breakfast in the morning. It was quiet as well, as we were the only guests there when we stayed.

Review 18:The overall cleanliness of the room is not that great. It really feels like it looks, an old building. There is a mouldy smell in the room and the sheets did not smell freshly washed either. Due to the weather mainly, the whole place has a damp feeling to it. When we arrived it was pouring down and the windows were open. As there is a 'No Shoe' policy in the house, I got wet socks straightaway as the carpet in the room was soaking wet from the rain entering the room. The room gets cold too, so take warm clothes when you stay there.

Review 19:The location is great, only a few minutes from the Volcano National Parc. We were given a free upgrade upon arrival which was very nice as well. The arrival is quite impersonal as there is only an envelope with your name waiting but that did not bother us.

Review 20:Dirty all over, i mean really dirty. Very poor number of food stores and restaurants.

Review 21:Located 5-10 minutes to the park entrance. Free WIFI and Parking.

Review 22:Slight initial musty smell-that dissipated.

Review 23:The beautiful grounds, our Sushi Cottage was spacious with many perks-bathrobes, an immaculate bathroom and kitchenette. It was beautifully decorated!

Review 24:We were welcomed in the rudest and most impolite way by Joan. We arrived earlier and wanted to drop off our luggage to go hike in the National Park but she rebuked us so fast, I was really taken back. We had to spend the day with all of our stuff in the trunk of the car. Zero for customer service.

Review 25:Location, look of the room was charming but the space is quite small.

Review 26:There wasn't anything I didn't like. It would have been nice if breakfast was included but not a big deal. We were there on a Saturday night so Sunday morning we got to experience the Volcano Farmers market and enjoy locally grown fruit and amazingly delicious homebaking. Don't miss the the mushroom and gargonzola cheese turnerovers. The farmers' market is just a road over.

Review 27:The location was great for visiting VNP.The paniolo room was spacious and there was lots of attention to detail. Perfect for anyone who loves horses. The attached bathroom was newly renovated and there were nice touches like coconut shampoo, hair dryer, curling iron and toothbrush holder. Fresh gardenias were placed in the hall so there was a beautiful scent. The ground floor had a shared kitchen area. This was well supplied. There is a beautiful living room with Hawaiian books, movies, maps. There were flashlights and raincoats.Joan was very friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again or recommend the place to friends.

Review 28:For some reason I thought this was a B&B when I booked it. Unfortunately, it was not, but I understand why. The owner is very busy running the farm. It should be advertised as a farm-stay.

Review 29:Joan was very nice and happy to tell us all about her farm. It was interesting to talk a walk out back to see the garden and all the animals. I loved the de-humidifier in the room! Great location for going to VNP!

Review 30:Location is good, very close from the volcano park, nearby a gas stations. Homeowner is very very kind! The hotel is a large farm, there are many horses, have a great view of the countryside.Very quiet at night!

Review 31:Cute decore, homey feel. I really liked the candies left in my room, and a small whiteboard with "aloha" written on it waiting by the bed for me.

Review 32:Musty smell, so cold in room, could not take a shower, coffee was cold, had cereal and fruit only

Review 33:Location

Review 39:The animals.my son really enjoyed the experience of farm surroundings.

Review 40:Nothing.

Review 41:The staff was very friendly and helpful. The facilities were good.

Review 42:all the door nobds were loseand we did not have a couch

Review 43:I liked that we got free food for breakfest and we got a libary and beds were

Review 44:Lots of old pictures of the VNP along the stairwell. Lots of slippers, raincoats, flashlights and other little touches.

Review 45:There was a smell but keep in mind that you are on a farm!

Review 46:Bed, Breakfast and the owner

Review 47:Could have used a second chair in room.

Review 48:Joan is delightful, love the animals. Colorful rooms.

Review 49:The mostly self-service aspect Wandering in the garden with the owner. The fireplace room

Review 50:Accomodation exactly as described. Handy to volcano and affordable. Enjoyable stay.

Review 51:Good location

Review 52:Unfriend boss.

Review 53:Location.

Review 54:Very traditional American house.nice decoration. Very clean ,good facility, easy to check in and check out.

Review 55:It was gross. It smells disgusting and the dogs bark the whole night.

Review 56:Nothing at all

Review 57:it is a little difficulty to find and it is rather humid in the room maybe the reason in the mountain area

Review 58:good environment and house

Review 59:Our cottage had many thoughtful touches and a lot of character.

Review 60:We arrived at night to a very dark parking area. There was a lockbox on the door that did not work. After calling them many times after trying for some time to get in, we had left to look for an alternate place to spend the night. A very grumpy lady called back just in time. She met us when we arrived back and lectured us that there was no drop box code and did not know why one was on our reservation. Then lectured us that check in was at 3pm only????!!! She was horrific. Rooms very very dated. Hope you like horses! So many in the room it was creepy.

Review 61:- the room has no heating, and on 1100 m above sealevel and in april this was a bit uncomfortable - the lady of the house was almost never there, and she expected us to know that.

Review 62:- Room with much space and light, good furniture, free wifi - The whole house is classy. - The village has everything you need, and is quite near to the volcanic activities.

Review 63:Nothing, but I can see how some people might not enjoy the sheep and chickens in the morning as much as I did.

Review 64:Personally I loved that it was a farmstead. Lots of lively animal noises and the owner Joan was fantastic. Her approach to being self-sustainable is admirable!

Review 65:Everything was kind of brown and damp

Review 66:We liked the relaxed atmosphere and the confidence. The good service and guidance on what to see and do made us feel very welcome.

Review 67:The mattress was saggy.

Review 68:It was interesting, homey and friendly. I liked the setting, the place had character. I liked the working farm aspect and gardens.

Review 69:This is a beautiful working farm, and, yes, there are chickens. If that bothers you, bring ear plugs! The Sushi Cottage (our room) was very comfortable. It had everything we needed-a quiet, clean, spacious, comfortable and well appointed room. I've seen earlier reviews of this place where the reviewer complained that this was not a bed and breakfast. While there seems to be many B and B's in the area, all of which are priced much higher than what we paid for our stay, Aloha Happy Place was not advertised as such, therefore we were not disappointed about that and we didn't expect a meal. The value was tremendous for such a clean, comfortable stay. The owner works very hard to make guest feel welcome. She was very generous and gracious and accommodating. We were delighted with the beauty and comfort and will return.

Review 70:We tried to use the available computer but the internet wasn't working. Also, the shower head was way too low for a tall guy like me. Just about strained my back trying to get under it.

Review 71:Loved the Sushi room. Very cozy and comfy and clean. The grounds are attractive and charming. We had to change the date of our reservation and the service was friendly and very helpful. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Review 72:Since the building is older, we learned there is a humidifier in the rooms but not any central heating system. It was a little chilly in the room.

Review 73:Loved the setting and the character of the motel. It's a self check-in, so we never met the manager. However, she was most helpful when I called her with questions. The owners have paid great attention to amenities i.e. individual robes, candies on the nightstand, fresh fruit in the bowl on the main floor table. These are only a few examples of the thought that went into making our stay a positive one.

Review 74:Rooster in neighbourhood Because the location is in a rain forest amusty smell can be a problem Nobody at rental, all interaction byphone...but phone was answered promptly.

Review 75:Very near Volcanos Park There is a huge library available with books, movies, CDs ....wood fireplace is lit on rainy days. We stayed inPaniolo room which is large, sunny, very comfortable and not musty

Review 76:We missed the human touch when we arrived. A key in an envelope on the door is cold. A welcome, someone to show you to the room perhaps. Also, we had only cold water, brrrrrr.

Review 77:The lobby and reading rooms allow guests space aside of their assigned rooms. The house and garden are exceptionally clean. Joan thought of all amnemities, except......

Review 78:A great little place to stay in the little village of Volcano! We felt like we were staying at a friend's house!

Review 79:Great small hotel! Best choice if you looking for the cheap hotel to stay near the Volcanoes national park.

Review 80:Nothing! Accept it's a farm stay and you will enjoy!!!!

Review 81:Amazing value v close to volcano

Review 82:Roosters at 4am

Review 83:The setting and grounds were Gorgeous. Warm and cozy.

Review 84:Friendly lady to chat with us and even lent my wife her hiking boots.

Review 85:Homey comfort, convenient to volcano national park
