Reviews for The Cliffs Resort

Review 1:The room and bathrooms were outdated and didn't look anything like the pictures on the site. There was only one ice machine and it was on the 2nd floor and our room was on the 3rd.

Review 2:We liked the location and free cookies were delicious!

Review 3:The spa is being remodeled. I would like to see it when it is complete.

Review 4:Great view from our balcony. The room was luxurious, and the interior of the facilities was beautiful. The staff was very friendly. We had massages there and they were very good.

Review 5:The room was last updated about 60 years ago. The heater barely worked. The room needed a total remodel. The location is on a cliff over the sea. The location is the only reason to visit

Review 6:My one and only complaint, towels. Had to ask repeatedly to get new towels (lots of beach and pool trips). Ended up raiding the maids closet to get them.

Review 7:Right on the beach! Literally! Beautiful views of the ocean. Clean rooms and facilities. The staff helped my wife surprise me poolside with a birthday cake AND even sang! Close to all the restaurants but far enough away to not hear it. Swam with sea lions in the ocean.

Review 8:We upgraded to another room due to initially being next to a construction site. My two teenage kids had to sleep on a hide a bed and the shower didn't have a door. The upgrade would have been perfect for a couple. The room cost an extra $100.00

Review 9:The staff at the cliffs are very friendly & the views were spectacular

Review 10:Small bathroom. .. seemed to be dated although they stated recently renovated. There was nothing that stood out to me to remember how great this place was. ..I feel when I go back to the coast I will be looking at all hotels and choosing one; the cliffs resort did not win me over for another automatic stay

Review 11:The location was nice and the outside was very nice

Review 12:Room service not available between lunch and dinner - - typically the time of checkin. After driving for 4 hours and arriving at 3 --- could not order room service until 4 and ended going back to Pismo to get fast food,

Review 13:Relaxing on the deck enjoying the ocean view, walk down to the beach and around the property.

Review 14:The entire staff was excellent. Special thanks to Erin, who welcomed us upon arrival and provide unparalled service and recommendations. Honorable mention to Frank, Alex, Tim, Darryl and Xavier.

Review 15:We were on our honeymoon. We arrived and noticed the room we were suppose to stay the outside was under construction. We called the desk and Jenny moved us to room 449. Wow! What a beautiful room. Thank you so much for all the great service! My husband and I decided to get massages at the spa. We loved the massages ! Sarah and Anna were amazing. My husband and I have decided to come back here for our 1 year anniversary in the same room

Review 16:Polite and helpful staff. Very quiet room and view was outstanding. We will stay here again. We enjoyed walking to the Spyglass Deli/DePaoli and remember their food is great from 10 yrs ago when we lived in CA

Review 17:Room felt damp upon arrival and since we were facing the parking lot & highway there was quite a bit of road noise. An ocean view would be much better!

Review 18:Gorgeous location. Staff is friendly & helpful.

Review 19:pretty high nightly rate even with a AAA discount. If we stay - will look for better rates. Would have liked to have known that there was a big tent in front of the restaurant which blocked the ocean view on the restaurant patio. Water had a "dirt" tasting - probably due to the low water table level with the drought.

Review 20:Right on the ocean.

Review 21:we were placed in a room on the 2nd floor above the valet office so we continually heard the door shutting very loud.

Review 22:the locations was beautiful and the staff very nice.

Review 23:After using our 4 towels after coming in from the beach, we had to wait longer than I consider satisfactory for more towels.

Review 24:The Partial ocean view was a nice midrange price for a nice midrange view

Review 25:A fantastic resort, very well priced and just lovely. The pool and dining area are excellent, the views were stunning. Rooms were clean and tide, beds were comfy and everything felt new and fresh. The food was excellent and well priced.

Review 26:Large amount of outside space and patio area but pool itself and poolside too small for all but a few guest to take advantage of. Also never stayed at a hotel before where dogs were allowed poolside, i'm talking Alsatians here not little handbag sized dogs.

Review 27:Excellent location, views and good quality hotel. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 28:Breakfast should be included in the room price.

Review 29:Please note that my earlier review of this hotel was not correct and should be removed. I confused two hotels. The Cliffs deserves a fourth star. It is a fabulous hotel in a wonderful position with superb staff.

Review 30:We had the best stay at The Cliffs! The setting was perfect and weather good not be better. 'But' the staff at The Cliffs, they were Awesome!!! From checking in..to the bell boy. However I would have to say what brought us to The Cliffs in the first place was our experience we had at the Buffet breakfast during the 4th July weekend. We were greeted by maître d' David Kline who welcomed us as we started to serve ourselfs. He pointed out some very nice entrées to try. He was so caring and welcoming made us feel like we were so invited there. David even came outside were we were sitting to ask us how everything was and asked if he can get us anything. In this day and age your lucky to get anyone to talk to you! I noticed how he was with the other patrons and the same..such a gracious man! He had asked if we are staying at The Cliffs we said no, he said you should try sometime. We were back in town this past weekend and I wanted to stay at The Cliffs, remembering our experience there and the outstanding buffet. And again we were greeted by David Kline and he made everything so very special for us

Review 31:Loved everything! Not sure why, but we were upgraded to a suite and we felt very spoiled. Wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy all the amenities.

Review 32:Nothing bad to say, it was the perfect end to our California road trip before heading back to L.A.

Review 33:Lovely hotel, efficient staff, friendly valet parking guys, great location, pool and hot tub overlooking the ocean and amazing sunsets.

Review 34:Most of the staff was friendly and knowledgable but the server for my section of the pool was not attentive. Not the end of the world but a bit annoying.

Review 35:The property was very pretty and well maintained. The bed was super comfortable and my partial-ocean-view king room was spacious and nice though the balcony was very small with a not so comfortable chair. Enjoyed the pool and it's great views of the ocean and coastline very much. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe.

Review 36:My husband and I get up very early and we like a good cup of coffee. The restaurant doesn't open until 7 which is quite late for us. We did not care for the room coffee. My suggestion is 6 am in the lobby would be great.

Review 37:Had a very nice time.

Review 38:*Not a bad experience but there was not enough self parking. It was a hassle to have to use the valet parking going in and out to activities/dinner. *A little on the pricey side

Review 39:*Very friendly and accommodating staff. *Extremely clean *Housekeeping Staff very nice *Quiet and peaceful

Review 40:The bathrooms had rust, barely any towels (for two persons), carpet was coming up. The hallways were really hot. NO WINDOWS FOR A CROSS BREEZE. Ice/snacks on lobby floor.

Review 41:The beds are amazing !!! It made it definitely worth the price. The location was priceless too. Fitness rooms on every floor with everything:)

Review 42:Common areas are extremely dirty, pool noisy and unattended at all times, staff very careless about the guests confort, we were not even asked to be helped with the luggage

Review 43:The location of the resort is excellent and the room was confortable

Review 44:One floor down and one room over. A big group of people were out on their balcony until 2 am. They were loud at times and I couldn't sleep with the door open so u could hear the ocean. I had to close it so my daughter and I could get to sleep. Not sure if anyone called on them.

Review 45:Everything. The room the view the service

Review 46:Just a couple of things, the water smelled funny, when running the shower, smelt like dirt, also did not taste good at all. We always bring our own, which was a good thing.

Review 47:Pool area nice, my son & family were able to stay for a night, so it was nice to have a pool an Avila beach so close. The staff very friendly & helpful!

Review 48:Fantastic setting, beautiful view. Pool, gym and spa facilities were great. The staff was amazing, very friendly and helpful. The food at the Marisol restaurant was amazing with a wonderful view. The Maitre d' was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable about things to do in the area. Can't wait to go back.

Review 49:I would avoid the rooms on the north of the property. They had no view.

Review 50:Fantastic location, lovely swimming pool and a great room. Sitting on the balcony overlooking the pool and ocean was fantastic

Review 51:No option for breakfast on a Sunday - just a champagne brunch at $39.....looked very nice but not what we wanted at 9am

Review 52:Great room and really lovely hotel

Review 53:Waiter was not very helpful. The waiter who served us was very cold. Food was so so at restaurant. The steak was barely warm when the waiter served us.

Review 54:Location was good. View is incredible.

Review 55:Breakfast was sub par and service was poor. Somebody needs to be taught how to make a good pot of coffee!

Review 56:Gorgeous location, clean room and friendly staff. Room service arrived promptly and hot. My 10 year old loved the tide pools at the beach below.

Review 57:AC wasn't working correctly in our room, had to call the staff for the bell man 3x to come to our room to help with luggage, most of the soda machines were all out. Our room said partial view of the ocean, and there was no view unless you went on the balcony and stuck your head way over searching for it. Disappointed. The view was trees.

Review 58:I liked the comfortable bed

Review 59:Large group of loud young adults. Very inappropriate language around pool and patio dinning area. No early coffee available.

Review 60:Comfortable and clean. Beautiful views of the ocean.

Review 61:The host in the restaurant (Clarke Kent look-alike!) was a touch arrogant; almost bordering on rude. Told us off like two naughty school children for coming in the wrong door - not a good approach. I would assume he is fairly new in the post and needs some more customer service training. Having said that, you do have some excellent waiters/waitresses especially one chap (we called him the surf dude!) he is an absolute asset to your hotel and the host could learn a lot from his manner - excellent!

Review 62:Hotels room have been decorated to a high standard and the little things make it; ie free water in the fridges and free wifi.

Review 63:There wasn't much to do if you didn't go to the beach.

Review 64:Everything except the smell. Going to the beach there was a stench by the sidewalk. It was raw sewage.

Review 65:Fabulous partial ocean view/sounds denied 3 nights in a row because another north building guest chose to smoke. Staff's response each night: sorry, we'll send someone to investigate. Heard/received nothing more except a half-hearted "sorry, but we're really busy" @ check-out. Expected far more. Very disappointing flaw in an otherwise fabulous stay.

Review 66:Everything but the cigarette smoke (see below).

Review 67:It was noisey where our room was located next to public beach path. Late night and early morning traffic from people coming and going. Also, loud door slamming constantly. Wifi did not work in our room, only in lobby.

Review 68:The bed was very comfortable. Food in restaurant was very good. Staff accommodating. Loved the location.

Review 69:Bathroom could use some redesign.

Review 70:the room was fantastic, partial ocean view you actually can enjoy. Fire place a plus to have, very romantic. The food is excellent as well.

Review 71:It was hard to keep our room cool. Mentioned it as we checked out.

Review 72:I couldn't have picked a more perfect spot to stay in Pismo Beach. The Cliffs exceeded my expectations. Felt like we were in Hawaii at the poolside. Enjoyed seeing Dolphins & Whales everyday!! Can't wait for our next visit

Review 73:I paid extra for an ocean front suite I was rented an ocean view room and my view was mostly obstructed with a tent set up for a wedding I was there several years back and was excited to return for the same amazing experience

Review 74:The beds were comfortable

Review 75:We were there over Memorial Day weekend, the hotel was noisy at times.

Review 76:We arrived late after sitting in traffic in Gilroy and were promptly greeted by a friendly valet and front desk staff. Throughout our stay, the staff was friendly and attentive. The room was clean and a nice size. We were very comfortable there throughout our stay. The pool is outside and heated, towels and blankets are available for use (which came in handy when my daughter wanted to swim and the wind picked up). They also had s'mores and a poolside movie. We didn't have a chance to check out the kids club day time activity, but thought it was a nice option. The hotel is located close to both Pismo State Beach and Avila State Beach. We loved being able to get to either location quickly.

Review 77:Wifi in our room was very slow. We notified the front desk but nothing was done. We've stayed at the Cliffs before and the Wifi in the room was fine. I was not able to work during my stay which made it very inconvenient.

Review 78:age limit for gym use. My 14 year old works out with me. We were looking forward to it and the age limit was 18. It should be 13 with an adult. They're lots of 13 year old athletes who would enjoy using the gym on vacation. It was disappointing.

Review 79:It was clean and comfortable

Review 80:arrived a bit early and room was ready to occupy :) Spacious rooms, nice restaurant right next door and great walking path for a.m. strolls overlooking the water. Great pool area with plenty of chairs.

Review 81:We didn't find a hose to rinse the dog off after going to the beach.

Review 82:There were lots of complimentary treats for us throughout our stay including for our dog!

Review 83:Fan in bathroom was not working. Lots of steam for four people to room. Poolside attendant was very very slow and talked to much about working too long of hours.

Review 84:Location was Great! Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries was a nice treat for happy hour.staff was very accommodating him. Loved the free water bottles at all times.

Review 85:The staff was so friendly mentioned it was our wedding anniversary and the hotel sent up a bottle of complimentary wine the ocean views were captivating the spa was a vacation in itself will be returning with our family next year

Review 86:The pillows are a little too soft for us, but still a great place.

Review 87:We really like the location, restaurants, and overall friendliness of the entire staff. This is a great place to stay.

Review 88:When check in is as late as 4pm you would expect your room to be ready at that time, ours was not. When traveling the last thing you want to do is wait for your room. The view from our room was the parking lot and our room was right above the lobby door, lots of noise early am.

Review 89:The view of the ocean was nice from the pool area and grounds were nice. There is a good restaurant adjacent to the hotel but a bit pricey.

Review 90:The sheets on the bed were a little rough and the bed a bit hard for my tastes. There is a jacuzzi that is good and hot but the jets really just made big bubbles.

Review 91:Wonderful staff, beautiful hotel and rooms, great location with quick and easy drive to Pismo, Avila and San Luis Obispo.

Review 92:A bit pricey and lack of availability of rooms at peak times, so it's better to make reservations well in advance. Also, there were few alternate dining options in the area.

Review 93:The room was tasteful and well appointed. The facility was lovely and fun. There was a good dining facility and a nice breakfast buffet. There was a promenade along the cliff to view the sea and small view balcony options for the rooms.

Review 94:The TV line up could have been better. Better room service.

Review 95:Absolutely loved this hotel. Great location with a lot of restaurants within walking distance. Would definitely stay at the cliffs again.

Review 96:Our slider wouldn't shut all the way which caused the rod of the curtains to make a constant clicking noise. We were next to the pool, so it got a bit noisy at night when people were in the pool (past 10pm).

Review 97:We enjoyed the beautiful view from the hotel and restaurant. The facilities were very nice.

Review 98:Parking lot is small.

Review 99:In room fireplace was romantic! Amazing view of ocean and coast. Enjoyed the champagne and chocolate covered strawberries reception in the lobby.

Review 100:construction, banging in early morning. Cold in main area and hall ways. Door at front desk was always open making it cold and not cozy.Bathroom door had hand prints,I think makeup on it. Sliding door stuck & difficult to close & open. As well as the sliding levelers.

Review 101:Pretty poor WiFi and the onsite restaurant, Marisol, had a limited dinner menu

Review 102:Facilities and staff! They even had a free shuttle that dropped and picked our group of 7 to the bar!

Review 103:We were treated like royality at the Cliffs Resort and at our wedding reception at the Marisol. David Klein totally catered to all our wedding dinner needs and everything was beautiful! The Cliffs wonderfully accomodated our wedding guests and us to be able to get into our rooms earlier before the 4pm wedding and get dressed for beautiful pictures at the Cliffs! Everyone raved about the Cliffs Resort and how we were all treated! Our Wedding day was wonderful and a large part was because ot the Cliffs Resort and Marisol accomodations.

Review 104:The only thing I didn't like too much is that where our room was located there was a path leading down to the beach with alot of foot traffic

Review 105:The cliffs is a nice place. I loved the pool area with the fire pit very nice at night. The beds are very comfortable with lots of pillows.

Review 106:The ice machine was 2 floors down. The staff was kind of noisy cleaning rooms and rolling carts up and down hallway while my wife was trying to sleep.

Review 107:Location,view and maintenance staff were all great!

Review 108:Entering the lobby the floor was wet and I damaged my foot by slipping which definitely put a damper on the stay. The restaurant was fantastic.

Review 109:View from the side was fair. It was nice to have a short walk to the beach. The lack of a refrigerator was a major miss. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean.

Review 110:Of course it was beautiful, but who expected such an exceptional staff, so pleasant and so accommodating? Truly a gem in a lovely little laid back seaside village.

Review 111:The room was a bit spendy for the amenities. The hot tub was really out dated. The fact that you closed the total facility for an event with no options expressed for your guests that were not going to the event and wanted the bar and restaurant we thought was poor planning.

Review 112:The breakfast was great and Sunday brunch was wonderful. The best meal we had in Pismo. The beds we good.

Review 113:Rooms on second floor (lobby level) that are located along hiking trail have little privacy. I could not open up my windows to let light in because people would be walking very close to room. & I did not have a window to actually open to let in the ocean air. Wish they had an updated spa with a salon.

Review 114:Great location!

Review 115:There were not enough umbrellas by the pool...

Review 116:The staff were great, super friendly and really pleasant - went out of their way to make the guests comfortable. My kids loved movie night with s'mores by the fire pit and the fact that I could get a cocktail at the same time was a tremendous bonus.

Review 117:Wayfinding - The hotel really needs to address signage. I found it very difficult to find my way around and encountered several (5-6) other guests with same difficulty. We said something to staff and they said, "yes we get complaints" yet nothing has been done to address it. We stayed 5 nights but were never provided with additional soaps/shampoos. We literally ran out of soap during last showers. Not a lot of parking, BUT, they did provide free valet - just takes longer to get in/out.

Review 118:The rooms were spacious, beds were comfortable and view from the room was lovely!

Review 119:The staff member who told us(w/sleeping kids) to move rooms at 1am because Ac(blew heat) was still not working due to no maintenance worker avail til next day. Next day came & still no maintenance worker came to help us.

Review 120:The view

Review 121:My spousand i brought or PC, when we log on it became impossible to log on. we were unable to use the internent during our stay. The WI-Fi was very poor during our stay and I'm assuming that next time it would be good because everythig else is. Thank you for asking

Review 122:I liked the punctuality of the staff concerning breakfast, soft spoken staff(s) made me comfortable and I felt welcome. Moreover, they applied my AAA Discount to my bill: Originally we reserved our room online and I was pleased with the lady at the desk for her courtesy. Inaddition, we were given our keys instantaniously upon our arrival without any drama. I was addressed properly and our room was very clean upon our arrival and that made us felt at home. It was a very peaceful environment. Thank you very much Sincerely Mrs. R Ademola

Review 123:Pool was great place to relax. Great view of ocean. Needed a get away place to just chill out and relax and this place fit the bill. Will definitely come back again staff was friendly and helpful. Love this place.

Review 124:It looks stunning from the pics but it's only a nice resort on the sea, not worth the money. Small pool and I had to argue to get food and drinks, I've asked five times for a menu and at the end I had to go to order at the bar.

Review 125:Vallet service

Review 126:The only thing was where we stayed was the access to the beach so it got very noisy in the mornings so hard to sleep in. That's about all

Review 127:Very close to the beach

Review 128:We chose this resort for the location and it exceeded our expectations. The staff was very friendly, the room was just as described (we will upgrade to the full ocean view next time) and the adjacent restaurant was a delight to enjoy a romantic sunset dinner. Our daughter loved the outdoor heated pool and easy access to the beach, which was also amazing. We will go back again!

Review 129:Initial room tub needed repair, water filled tub during shower. We reported it and upgraded; manager Louie...comp'd us at initial rate for first night in suite; we paid upgrade for remainder. I believe, although the rooms appeared clean; they were only given a "lick and a promise" between occupancy. Marble floors were dirty. Toilet seat was loose, etc. etc.

Review 130:Friendly and accommodating staff. Marisol restaurant has the best 'Resort Hamburger' ever! Grounds were clean and trimmed. Great pool and spa! We upgraded to suite!

Review 131:Would have liked a better coffee maker in my room and free movies.

Review 132:The location! Our room had an amazing view and the sun sets were priceless! Loved the restaurant Marisol's and the poolside drinks were delicious! The nightly hot tub and fire pit with the ocean view was awesome! I didn't want to leave!

Review 133:The staff at the cliffs were amazing!! They were very accommodating to our needs we even got a complimentary upgrade room with fire place!! Very clean and a great breakfast buffet! Would book again!!!
