Reviews for Marina Inn
Review 1:Overpowering toxic plug-in room freshener (unplug chemical freshener and open windows and door for awhile to air it out if you're like us and can't tolerate that). Slightly sketchy neighborhood.
Review 2:Clean room, firm mattress, ok price, nice staff, free parking, 7-11 on the corner for quick eats. New microwave, fridge and tv.
Review 3:Whenever trying to reach them by phone BEFORE getting there, a recorded voice told to press zero for reception but my call was never forwarded. When I arrived my room was ready though, so it didn't really matter.
Review 4:Clean, nice renovated room, lovely shower box. Friendly staff
Review 5:The very high wattage cold light bulbs that are an unfortunately ubiquitous in all lodging these days, casts a bluish tint on the warm interiors.
Review 6:Extremely clean (spotless) and well maintained room. Updated comfortable room with retro charm, don't let the lack of curb appeal deter your stay.
Review 7:you have to take a bus to go to berkeley centre. it departs in every 20 minutes or so and ends around midnight. in order to go to SF you then take a bart for half an hour.
Review 8:a rather cheap option if you want to visit sf at daytime. free parking is a huge benefit.
Review 9:Some funny smell in the room.
Review 10:Nice motel at the great location near downtown of Berkeley with fine room and really nice staff. Also, nearby are nice caffes and bars and BART Station.
Review 11:the room was a little bit stifling , need 15-20 min to walk to the BART station
Review 12:the location in Berkeley was quite good, the staff was very helpful. Much more than the usual.
Review 13:Dust build up @ portable fan (I ended up cleaning this fan) / no AC / shower floor could be cleaner.
Review 14:Low price. Close to restaurants. Guests did not smoke @ outside areas ( in the past, hotel guests would smoke outside their non-smoking rooms ). .
Review 15:Kind of small, especially with 2 bedrooms inside , it's better including breakfast
Review 16:The cleanliness of the room, the wifi are powerful,i can do everything with my laptop
Review 17:No A/C, but the fan was all that was needed for me.
Review 18:Continently located on University Ave, close to I-80 there's nothing extravagant about the lodging, it is just a nice, clean, basic room for the night. The place is being nicely remodeled. Recommended!
Review 19:There was no continental breakfast & no bathtub.
Review 20:The room itself was clean & comfortable. We also liked the king bed, the lights over each bed, & plenty of drawer & counter space to unpack. It was enough space & quite cozy.
Review 21:Room has no AC; there was only a tiny fan. In the evening the room is much hotter than outside. We had to keep the fan on the whole night. The room was really small. Two full-size beds took the whole space. Location seemed unsafe. Hotel reception was behind a bullet-proof window.
Review 22:There was a TV.
Review 23:Parking lot is small and inconvenient.
Review 24:If you're looking for a reasonably pried motel in the Berkeley area (or the Bay area), this is the place to stay. Clean, comfortable, with a convenient location.
Review 25:It's near the train tracks. With the window closed it wasn't a problem, but very light sleepers might notice it (I'm a light sleeper, and with a fan on it didn't bother me).
Review 26:The price is the biggest draw. It's incredibly inexpensive for the area, but still clean, had no sketchy guests, free parking, and all the basic, necessary amenities. I have paid 2-3 times as much for a room in the area that wasn't as big, clean or nice. There aren't really any extras (ice machine needs quarters!), but I will absolutely stay again. It's a great place to stay if you're in the area for a day or two, or spending most of your time out and about.
Review 27:I wish the check in time were earlier.
Review 28:The location was perfect, right across from La Quinta Inn which is twice as expensive. The bed was super comfortable and parking more than available. The room was clean with a big bathroom and great water pressure.
Review 29:Thw room smelt old and musty. You have to pay for ice too. Just like a motel 6 with a different name.
Review 30:The check in was easy and the wood ceilings were nice.
Review 31:No coffee was a big bummer, especially if you're traveling. More towels in the room would be great. The exterior of the hotel wasn't much to look at. It wouldn't take a lot to make improvements- get rid of artificial turf, maintain existing roses, get some large potted tropical plants around office(which needs better OFFICE sign).
Review 32:Our room was clean, nice big TV, the bed was very comfy.
Review 33:There was no iron and ironing board to freshen up my packed clothes. During my 2nd day there, housekeeping didn't arrive until after 6 pm to clean the room.
Review 34:Courteous and helpful staff.
Review 35:The office was not always staffed. I called at about 10:00 pm one evening and 8:30 am one morning, and both times got no answer, no voice mail. The hot water did not work in the bathroom sink (hot water in shower was ok). Finally, I didn't realize this was a motel (with direct access to rooms from outdoors), not a hotel. I worried about the safety of the location when I found that the front office had a plexiglass shield.
Review 36:The location was very convenient to UC Berkeley and the price was reasonable. The room was very clean, except for the shower curtain which had some mildew. Free parking was a plus! The staff was friendly and helpful, when they were available.
Review 37:The area according to people we met who live in Berkeley isn't ideal, but it's close to good areas.
Review 38:For the money, can't be beat. We were in town for a wedding just for the night, and this was ideal for the money we wanted to spend. Might be less great for a longer stay.
Review 39:I have a service dog and I always try to stay at places that are ok with animals. They do not allow animals but welcomed Grace my service dog. I know they could not say no but they were lovely about her being there. And the location was the best for me…
Review 40:No coffee maker. No facial tissues. Sink was backing up & wouldn't empty easily. No staff in-sight at check out. The overall look and vibe of the place and of its location.
Review 41:Clean, recently remodeled bathroom. Comfortable bed.
Review 42:I didn't like the fact our room had no coffee maker. It had fridgeand microwave but no coffee!!! They need to upgrade there websitebecause my impression was I had a marina view from how they describedthe location. So with that said for the price it was to pricey to have aview of old ran down buildings.
Review 43:The rooms looked freshly remodeled except for some water damages underthe sink and around the toilet. Only stayed one night and it was justfine for our anniversary get away.
Review 44:Front desk staff weren't particularly helpful.
Review 45:Conveniently located to major highways and to UC Berkeley campus. Free onsite parking. Many rooms were being completely gutted while I was there. I think mine had already been done. Perfectly decent place.
Review 46:There was quite a bit of noise from the room above us, but the staff did offer to move us. The room had been bombed with some type of air freshener, which forced us to leave our door and window open for a couple hours after we arrived. No coffee maker.
Review 47:Reasonably priced. Fairly clean.
Review 48:The odor of towels was not bad, but not pleasing and nice either. Parking was not secure. No coffee or breakfast facility.
Review 49:Convenient distance to the Berkley city. Beds were comfortable and clean.
Review 50:Rooms have been recently remodeled and are kept very clean. Very helpful staff and as a woman traveling alone I feel safe although the location seems a bit iffy.
Review 51:I didnt like how open the key drop off box is.. It seems unsecure like any person walking by could reach in and take the key.. Which has the room number taped on it...
Review 52:It was very quiet which is what i wanted.. The receptionist was friendly.. Would stay here again..
Review 53:Ran out of TP (there weren't extras in the room) and had a hard time raising anyone to get more. They were very sweet about it when I did get someone, however.
Review 54:Even though the location is right on the main E-W street it is tucked away securely so that it is safe and quiet. The room was perfectly nice, and the bathroom was redone with fancy granite and attractive fixtures.
Review 55:No staff. I stayed two nights and they do not clean the room and skimpy on extra toilet paper or towels. However, if you ask, they will give them to you.
Review 56:For the price and the location, it was excellent. The bed was comfortable, the room clean, the shower was great, it was fairly quiet and close to everything. It has a microwave, fridge, T.V. and Wifi. All you need.
Review 57:TV control didn't work. No tissues in dispenser. No A/.C. No clock radio, old food carton under bed(!), after 2nd day room was not cleaned. Tiny unwrapped soaps. Didn;t replace soap, lotion, shampoo after lst day. No safety rubber mat in a very slippery (shiny glassy tile) in shower. †owels were very thin and like sandpaper. Had to ask for 2nd set of towels. Dark. dingy room. This is not "pet friendly" but I had an assistance dog so it was ok on that. Smaller than standard room. I would NOI book again, and I don't know how it got so high a rating.
Review 58:location.
Review 59:Lack of outlets. I didn't see an A/C as well.
Review 60:I loved the king size bed. My room was very clean. The little frig and Microwave were a plus. The motel was on a main street so there were plenty of places to eat. All near bus lines as well. Great neighborhood feel.
Review 61:There were a few small things missing. No Kleenex, even when I left a note asking for some. No place in the sink area to hang a hand towel. Rooms seemed to be cleaned very late, like after 6pm, but that could be because it was Thanksgiving and a very busy time.
Review 62:Location was well situated with good freeway access but also lots of things to walk to and explore. Well tied into public transit. Rooms were a bit small, but nice. Bed comfortable. I was concerned we would be bothered by traffic on the nearby road, but this wasn't a problem.
Review 63:That damn train coming by a few times during the night whaling its horns. While the tracks were about a half mile away, there were loud enough to wake you and question is it really necessary to blast its horns non stop ?
Review 64:Given the high price of hotels in this area, this was the cheapest. While very simple the room was clean and of respectable quality
Review 65:The carpet, bed spread and curtains need to be replaced. Area seems a bit sketchy at night, though I never had any issues.
Review 66:Bus line directly to UC Berkeley. Reception lady extremely helpful. Large room. Newly renovated bathroom.
Review 67:one ice machine and it was broken my only real complaint, the TV was very 1970's
Review 68:room very clean, bed comfortable, had a rental car and there was adequate parking, many nice restraurant's within a three block walk, there is a service station and store across the street and a 7/11 about 2 blocks away where we bought bottled water. I would stay here again
Review 69:We requested a room with a bath, then on discovering it was a two story facility and we were to be on the second floor with no way to get our luggage upstairs (we are older with disabilities) we requested a room on the first floor. Got there and we had no bathtub.Although the place seemed fairly empty we were told there were no rooms with bathtubs available but possibly there would be the next day. Never happened. The ice machine was out of order. The TV didn't work. The insulation was bad and the road and surrounding noise was loud and bothersome. We checked out after two nights.
Review 70:Room was not clean up. Never got an explanation. No clean towels for the second morning. When I asked for towels got a response with attitude.
Review 71:Excellent space and huge bed. Nice clean bathroom.
Review 72:The neighborhood was a seemed a little scary at first, but it ended up being just fine. There is no air conditioning, so it can get really hot in the room.
Review 73:You cant beat the price. The room was very clean and the staff was friendly.
Review 74:We stayed in Oct and had one warm day. No A/C, just a fan in the room. Room would have been unbearable in real hot weather.
Review 75:Quiet and clean. Reasonably priced. Back in off roadway so quite quiet.
Review 76:The facilities are aged but management is definitely working to update the Inn. I awoke Saturday morning to construction noise in the room below me a little before 9 am.
Review 77:Friendly and helpful manager.
Review 78:The shower was probably the smallest I've ever used, but at least it was very clean.
Review 79:The location is conveniently located by the highway, the room was clean, the building was quiet, the bed was very comfortable, and the staff were polite and helpful.
Review 80:A few amenities were missing: No coffee maker (which I don't miss since I drink tea) no hair dryer, no luggage rack, no tissue in the tissue holder, and no ceramic cups for the microwave. The plastic glasses in the room would have probably melted had I made tea in them, but I went to Bette's for breakfast instead. I did miss the ceramic cup, tissue and luggage rack. No iron/ ironing board either though I didn't need them. When I mentioned the missing items to the staff in the morning, I was offered the amenities and told they were planning more upgrades. I expect had I bothered to go down to ask for the things that were not available in the room I would have been given them. The only other comment is that the King bed mattress which was covered in plastic seemed to have been made up with flat queen sheets that came loose during the night. King Fitted sheets would solve that problem. Maybe removing the plastic bag on the mattress might have helped too. Still, very comfortable and good value.
Review 81:Although the outside looked like a 1950s motel, which initially made me concerned about what I had gotten myself into, it had been freshly painted. Plenty of parking inside the premises provided security for my rental car even though the facility is on a busy street near the freeway. This is a very convenient location within walking distance (5-6 blocks)of the happening 4th Street with all its cafes restaurants and shops, including Bette's Ocean View Diner, a wonderful place for breakfast if you can get in. Although the San Pablo Ave area is not the safest place in Berkeley I think the only proviso is don't go out walking alone at night, which I didn't plan to do. I asked for a room away from University Ave so it was quiet, although if you got the end room it might have been noisy. The inside was a pleasant surprise, new bathrooms with tile floors and granite counters, freshly painted and nice amenities like fridge and microwave, desk with decent light and generally decent lighting throughout. I had a King bed, which left more room than two doubles would have so the space was more than adequate. Staff was very helpful and polite. Very good value for the money, comfortable and in the process of being upgraded more.
Review 82:Couldn't find any place nearby to get coffee in the morning.
Review 83:Since I had to catch a train in the morning, the location was very convenient for that. (Train horns blaring in middle of night woke me, but that's not the motel owner's fault!) The room was clean and comfortable.
Review 84:A lot of noise from a lot of trains through out the entire night. THIS IS NOT THE MOTEL'S FAULT, THEY HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE TRAINS.>
Review 85:Value price Newly remodeled Friendly staff
Review 86:This was my first time here the room was very big walk in closet bathroom was a good size.internet and cable was at high speed. If your looking for a great place with a good value and great service I would recommend marina inn.
Review 87:Location quality bed very clean new bathroom friendly staff We will definitely stay here again. The price was right, the room was in great shape. Thanks Marina Inn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review 88:reviewed in the last week It was okay. My main complaints are that the bed was hard, the only sort of climate control was an oscillating table fan and the room smelled funny. Also, the ice machine was out of order. The mini fridge and microwave were nice touches and for the most part the room wasn't too dated but man my back still hurts from that bed. The area looks a little sketchy but from my understanding its under constant video surveillance. It's an okay motel but if I ever book another room here in Berkeley I won't be staying here.
Review 89:Not much
Review 90:They are going through remodeling, so there was some noise, but we were hardly at the hotel to notice.
Review 91:This place is a great deal. The staff were friendly and for the price, the room was good. I would stay here again.
Review 92:The sheets were clean but the top spread had obviously not been changed; the scent of high body odor was obvious. For people on business it would be nice to have breakfast as an option.
Review 93:Management was very courteous and helpful. Space generally clean, particularly pleased with the condition of the bathroom. However, ensure that top spread is changed. It would be nice to see the exterior a little more inviting.
Review 94:ice machine out of order when I was there. one light did not work.
Review 95:The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the area had a lot of interesting Pakistani and Indian shops and cafes. Small group of rooms so it was quiet and near the University where I was going for a seminar. Good value and all the basics.
Review 96:Located on a busy boulevard, lots of traffic noise till very late at night. Would suggest a room located away from street.
Review 97:Very clean and comfortable The lady at the front desk was friendly and helpful.
Review 98:It was great place to stay! Very clean and comfortable. In great location near Berkley University. Staff very friendly. I would recommend to everybody.
Review 99:Not the best area, but safe. The hotel was great. It was clean and well worth the price. Staff was great too. Close to the water and while a little far from the main restaurant area on Shattuck, a short drive. I would stay again.
Review 100:I was a little sketchy of the neighborhood but the hotel location was excellent and there was off street parking. No worries as I seemed the vehicles were watched as well.
Review 101:The staff went out of their way to accomodate. They were polite and generous of heart. The room was exceptionally quiet and clean. Very close to everything I needed.
Review 102:Wish things stayed open LATER Around the area! But its not their fault I guess ALL OF BERKELEY CLOSES at 10pm.
Review 103:Convenient & only took me 10min on the buss to get to work.
Review 104:What I didn't like about the hotel was the price, I felt like it a bit much asking for $80.00+ $.. I get it was in Berkeley but that wasn't worth that price..
Review 105:One this I did like about the hotel is the area. IT was very quite n Melo, The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean.. I would go back and refer someone there. .
Review 106:I stayed at the Marina Inn in Berkeley for 4 nights and I really need to say it is really a very good one. First of all, rooms are great, absolutely comfortable and clean. They have kingsize beds and you'll find a refrigerator, microwave and a fan for your comfort. The price is very well worth and it is located 30 minutes away from Downtown San Francisco; it is easy to get there even if you travel by yourself and don't want to drive. You also have a nice place, about 5 blocks away where you can hang out, grab some coffee or dine. And you are about 20 blocks away from Downtown Berkeley. Last but not least important, the personnel is so kind and is always willing to help. It was my first time in Berkeley and they gave me some tips that made my time in Berkeley very much pleasant. I absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting that part of the Bay area.
Review 107:Missing toilet paper, tv remote didn't work, dirty rags left on tv stand, no shower mats, bath floor dangerously wet & slippery, ants climbing in toilet & wall, no window vent & window would not open, only one key for three guests, no bucket & broken ice machine.
Review 108:Too many trains go by at night. The windows open too wide, staff could drill holes in the metal frame to allow the window to be left open at different widths.
Review 109:Inexpensive, close to all amenities, basic comfort!
Review 110:Not a luxurious place but good for one or two nigths. The Amtrak locomotives are noisy at night.
Review 111:Good price/value ratio. Friendly and helpful personal. Room and parking lot very clean (there are roses planted at each parking lot!). A nice coffee shop offering breakfast from 7 am just a few minutes away. Good public transportation to the UCB campus, Berkeley Marina and Berkeley BART station (bus). WiFi worked fine. The
Review 112:-Some street noise (University is a busy street) but it's not a rowdy area -Non-smoking room still smelled a bit of smoke (probably has for years)
Review 113:-Free parking (lot for guests) -Pleasant check-in experience -Currently undergoing renovation. New carpet, new paint, everything is clean and new -Good location. Albatross Pub (awesome) is a 5 minute walk; new restaurant Handlebar across the street
Review 114:Few amenities (they seem to be working on it), parking lot appears to be a thoroughfare, sketchy part of town (but no problems)
Review 115:Efficient check-in, clean room, fair amount of space, no disturbance, easy parking.
Review 116:I couldn't figure out how to get the dish tv to work, after hitting a wrong button.
Review 117:The location is wonderful, just a half-mile or so from the Eastshore State Park, which is easily accessible across a bridge for foot and bicycle travel. The staff was pleasant. The room was clean and comfortable with all the basics.
Review 118:Lack of AC makes the room quite warm at night, despite moderate outdoor temperatures.
Review 119:Room was clean and reasonably spacious. Walking distance to BART and downtown Berkeley. The local area is a bit odd, but not at all unsafe or unpleasant.
Review 120:The check in woman questioned me through a plastic plate and I could hardly hear her. She questioned me like I was lying to her. I felt she was rude and won't come back because of her and the poor facilities.
Review 121:no breakfast. too expensive for a motel.
Review 122:Friendly staff San Francisco is nearby.
Review 123:Could have used a thicker blanket, but the space heaters worked pretty well
Review 124:Cheap, convenient, clean, good location just a short drive to Berkeley
Review 125:These people charge for ice
Review 126:Our restroom door kept getting stuck
Review 127:The cable tv
Review 128:Clean, quiet, easy access to public transportation.
Review 129:Bed very hard
Review 130:TV and Shower quite good
Review 131:intense, deodorizing tool in the room
Review 132:Weird staff
Review 133:Clean big room
Review 134:Good location for my visit to UC-Berkeley at a reasonable cost in the S. F. area. Clean and comfortable.
Review 135:Friendly staff. Comfortable and safe.
