Reviews for Spanish Trails Inn

Review 1:the tv was broken the first night, but we let the night watchman know and he replaced it immediately with a working one.

Review 2:Friendly staff, best value for your dollar. Overall, it was great.

Review 3:The initial reception was not very inviting. Afterwards, everything was OK. But it is often the first impression that makes the difference.

Review 4:large room, car right in front of it

Review 5:The place just needs a bit of a makeover, the bathroom is a bit tired and porch carpet is mucky.

Review 6:Very comfy bed and handy for the town with the trolley stop right outside

Review 7:Bug guts on wall, smells old, looks old, door to room looked like it hadbeen been assaulted many times as if the room had been broken in to manytimes... Will not stay here again

Review 8:We were worried our sheets hadn't been changed for our stay. Some guest appear to be low social economic renters.

Review 9:have stayed there in the past and enjoy the location.

Review 10:From outside the motel looks a little kind of run down, not that nice, but they keep the rooms clean. It didn't smell bad, everything was clean and there was a fridge in it as well as a microwave. Direct at the motel the red Trolley (leaves every 20 min.) brings you for 1$ each ride direct to the historic town Durango where all the restaurants / shops are and the Narrow Gauge railroad .

Review 11:Decor such as countertops outdated, but clean and well maintained.

Review 12:Friendly desk clerk and free coffee, parking in front of door, trolley stop out front, supermarket across the street (fridge and microwave) next to river walk access, bed very comfortable, plenty of room for luggage (bring hangers), spacious.

Review 13:Office staff very helpful. The cat was really cute. Refrigerator and microwave were very useful. Liked the location - across from the Animas river and close to a grocery store.

Review 14:can't think of any thing.

Review 15:close to everything. trolley pkup at motel to down town. one block from Animas river, and great riding trails. wonderful restraunts.

Review 16:We stayed at this motel about 4 years ago and it was showing its age then. It does not appear that much money has been put into it for updating. Driving into Durango we saw several better looking properties with similar prices indicated.

Review 17:The gentleman at the front desk was extremely helpful in recommending a good restaurant within walking distance, and also recommending that we use the trolley to get to the downtown area. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

Review 18:Loved the location of this hotel, it was on the side of the street that gave us a beautiful view of the mountain on the other side. Kevin checked us in and he was so friendly and helpful. Gave us wonderful suggestions for dinner and breakfast. Not tourist places the places the locals go, which are always my favorite type of restaurants. It is an older hotel, but don't judge by the looks, it was very clean and comfortable!

Review 19:AC did not work because the power plug by it wasn't working at all. I dragged an extension cord across the whole room to make it work. Old interior. Very weak wifi signal.

Review 20:Staff was friendly. Good pillows.

Review 21:Traffic noise in rooms near main street. Needs some refurbishing and general maintenance - most of the plastic lawn chairs were cracked or broken; bathroom door needed oiled, bathroom vent and track where window slides needed deep cleaning.

Review 22:Staff was friendly, microwave and fridge were a plus. We were able to keep foods refrigerated and eat breakfast at a table on lawn and pack lunches for hiking. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. A grocery store is across the street and behind it the river path (walking, biking, inner tubing, viewing historic Durango/Silverton Train and rafters going down the river). Motel was on the right side of street to easily head downtown.

Review 23:Staff was very welcoming, helped us with lots of ideas what to do and where to go, room is a real retro 70s room with old style tv (we liked it a lot) but with lots of space to put stuff. We especially liked that all of our luggage fit next to each other onto the long side table. Free parking right front of the door was a plus. Supermarket and café is across the street.

Review 24:There was no elevator. Our rooms were on the 3rd floor,so we had to carry our luggage .We didn't have even a coffee maker. Also, they forgot to put soap in the bathrooms.

Review 25:It was pretty close to the ,grocery store, and places we wanted to visit.

Review 26:the dude at the front desk asked for my ID and copied it. I have never had that happen before, makes me nervous something is going to happen with my info!

Review 27:Bed was very comfortable, room was clean.

Review 28:Absolutely loved the room set up in that the bathroom, including the sink was separate from the room. When sharing a room this is extremely convenient set up. The lawn chairs and small table on balcony were GREAT.

Review 29:Non Smoking room smelled like cigarette smoke from people setting outside room smooking bath tub drip water toilet seat loose highway noise

Review 30:It Was Clean

Review 31:The bathrooms only had showers. Not good with small children that need a bathtub. It would have been a better stay if my daughter didn't freak out taking a shower.

Review 32:It was close to my good friend we were visiting.

Review 33:There was a stain on the wall. The staff was indifferent. The furniture and bed spreads were decades old. Cable didn't work and took several efforts to fix. A/c was very loud and never fixed.

Review 34:The rooms were reasonably clean.

Review 35:The lobby stays locked and you have to call and wait for someone to address you. Even in the pouring down rainThe sign says open at 7am but door locked still with no coffee at 8am on a Friday! The HBO offered was inop which sucks when you have small children winding down from the days events. In the 2 nights we stayed the 2nd my bulb went out in lamp and again no phone in room to contact staff. Get up and get number off front locked door. There is sure someone there at check out. Face in the computer, gotta ask for a receipt, no thank you, smile, nothing. Even said if you want one, about the receipt like I was bothering him. To top it off you have to pay a quarter for a cup full of ice at a 75. A night place! Never again!

Review 36:Room was not touched by housekeeping and we were gone the whole day so they had plenty of time. Had to go to the office to ask for towels ad the front desk person was not there, just a sign that said be back soon. We did eventually get the clean towels. 2nd day we returned early evening and our door was not shut all the way. Luckily nothing was missing. Would not stay here again.

Review 37:The only problem is the noise of the road. They could solve this problem with acoustic isolating Windows.

Review 38:The night guardian Was very helpful. The motel is a very good one, compared to What we paid. The king room is very good: clean, new furniture, new moquette ( so rare at that price!!). Bathroom Was working well and well kept. In the room there is a small fridge and a microwave. To have a washmachine it Was very useful.

Review 39:Our door, and window wouldn't close and looked like they were recently broken into, the police were at the property, and across the street 2x in the 48 hours we stayed here. The property did not feel safe, or cozy.

Review 40:It had a clean bed, room, linens staff was nice had nice resident cats good access to stores, and river trail for walking

Review 41:Curtains don't quite block out the outside lights and road noise runs from 6:30am - 11:00pm.

Review 42:Great place to stay. Beds are comfortable, guests and staff are polite. Easy to find and convenient location.

Review 43:- No coffee/ tea maker in the room - Old fashion bulky TV.

Review 44:- Location, right across City Market grocery market with Starbucks and a Liquor store. - Spacious room - Staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 45:I didn't like that a couple of the chairs in our room were dirty, the curtains were old with holes and a bit dirty and the window did not close entirely so there was a slight draft from that. There was some noise from the room next door as the person staying there coughed (and smoked) a lot and he even got into an argument with someone one morning.

Review 46:I liked that my dog was accepted without any question or problem from the staff, and I was pleased with the large size of our room as it was very spacious. The bathroom was very clean and there was a clean microwave and refrigerator in the room.

Review 47:a bit far from downtown for a multi-day stay, this hotel is best for those just passing through

Review 48:The room was clean and comfortable, and better than expected in this range.

Review 49:1) the clientele of low life loitering in the lobby 2) no coffee pots in rooms 3) no hair dryers - which I didn't notice until I got out of the shower with a wet head. 4) no shampoo or conditioner

Review 50:Could use a paint job

Review 51:It was very clean The beds were comfortable Tv was excellent WIFI was very good Convenient to downtown Free trolley pick up in front

Review 52:A bit of road noise, as we were in the building closest to the street. Didn't bother us too much- it was more like white noise at night, but may bother some.

Review 53:VERY clean! A bit worn, sure, but I felt fine with bare feet, which is not common for me in hotels. Location was sort of near the edge of town, but it was maybe a 15 minute drive to downtown/touristy areas. We enjoyed our stay!

Review 54:Thought this was a ground level facility. It had 9 stairs. Safety lock missing hasp. Major water leak from room above. Godd news was it leaked into our shower. No phone in room. Called by cell the hotels number. No answer, got answering machine. Never any response. Parking spaces are tiny.

Review 55:Couldn't get s blanket or turn on the heat we ask was told boiler wasn't on we had to double blanketd to keep my Mom warm

Review 56:Location friendly staff

Review 57:It had a small "Kitchen" but no coffee maker. There was rust all around the shower door. The bedspreads were tattered.

Review 58:It was on the way into town.

Review 59:No clock or phone. Moldy bathroom. Awful highway noise. Had to pay for ice. Dirty carpet. No "do not disturb" placard and the maid knocked on the door at just past 8:00 a.m. Tiny shower and no tub. Office was not open almost an hour after time to open. I travel a lot and this is almost the worst place I have ever stayed in.

Review 60:It has a nice name, fluffy towels. The refrigerator were there but in poor working condition.

Review 61:Decor was somewhat dated with bathroom and vanity area in need of some upgrades and paint. A hair dryer would also be a nice addition. Electrical outlets were scarce and some wouldn't hold a plug for recharging phones, etc. Window shades etc didn't block out light.

Review 62:Comfortable bed, decent TV, refrigerator and microwave. The location was decent with walking access to some dining and shopping. Reasonably quiet with parking right outside of room. Still a decent value as we were only there to sleep and shower.

Review 63:AC was hanging off the wall, we found a pair of shoes (womens) in the drawer under the TV, dirty towels under the bathroom vanity from some other traveler, room smelled of burnt popcorn, location was at the end of Main Ave (downtown was at the other end), when employee at front desk upon checkout was informed about these things he could have cared, no phone in the room, no Kleenex or tissue, had to use tiolet tissue.

Review 64:Nothing

Review 65:All expectations were met.

Review 66:Enjoyed our stay. A few miles from downtown but right on the main drag. Easy drive into town and trolly stop right in front. No kitchen facilities except microwave an fridge. Friendly staff. A bit noisy with traffic but not bad. Big supermarket right across the street. Would definately stay here again.

Review 67:The fan on the air conditioner was very noisy. Would have appreciated a small coffee maker.

Review 68:The location was very convenient for us. Within walking distance of eating places and the grocery store across the street. Also appreciated the free trolley. Very reasonable rates. Good value.

Review 69:Facilities are dated but well maintained and clean.

Review 70:The staff is always courteous and accommodating. Spotless clean and comfortable bed and bathroom. Strong WiFi and HBO. Good size rooms.

Review 71:The only real downside was that wifi access was limited - it was fine when we first arrived, but they'd had to change the password due to others taking advantage - from then on it was very hard to connect. You may not like that it's not right in downtown, but it wasn't hard to get there (we actually walked back in the evening).

Review 72:Our room was fine for our needs - it was clean, had laundry facilities onsite etc. The front desk staff were generally friendly, and it was easy enough to get a shuttle to downtown from just outside the Inn. There was also a grocery shop over the road which was handy.

Review 73:Traffic noise, dirty walkways. Bedspreads needed washing and we're well worn.room overall not very clean. No coffee pot.

Review 74:Staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 75:Somewhat outdated, some rooms have been updated, some haven't. The air/heat was a little noisy, but it worked. All in all, if you're on a budget, you can't beat it.

Review 76:In relation to other motels, the cost was very affordable. There's a certain nostalgia, not a super-modern motel, but it has everything you need. The fridge & utility sink comes in very handy.

Review 77:We were misinformed about trolley from summer to winter hours and had to take a taxi home one night, but were reimbursed.

Review 78:Liked that it was close to grocery store, liquor store, and "free" trolley stop was right in front of hotel which we used to the train station and back. Also, good towels and nice shower. For the price, a really good deal.

Review 79:I forgot my alarm clock and needed to make an early morning train departure. The traffic was noisy. The entry door did not close tightly or completely---leaving a gap which caused us to hear more traffic noise.

Review 80:on the free trolley line inexpensive clean helpful desk clerk easy to find location

Review 81:But there was no hair dryer in the room and the air conditioner had been all day that we had to sleep with our clothes on under the covers because the heat did not work in the room. The bedspread had a large stain underneath and thought it should have been changed out or cleaned out better.

Review 82:It was a very good value for the money. The beds pillows were very comfortable.

Review 83:Tram stops running at 7pm after Labor Day weekend leaving us with a two mile walk back the Inn. Large windows and curtains that don't quite meet can make for loss of privacy in some rooms.

Review 84:Clean, well specified rooms, good welcome and introduction to area, reasonably quiet, good wifi, comfortable beds. Free Tram/bus connection into Downtown Diurango makes getting into the historic centre and the rail station very easy.

Review 85:If you plan to go to downtown Durango to have dinner and a drink, you need a designated driver or, if alone, take a cab. It's at least a mile to the historic center of town. Of course, this explains the room cost being so reasonable.

Review 86:Friendly front desk staff, large room, clean, good value for the amount spent. Also, there is a CityMarket grocery across the street with a quality deli, fruit, etc.

Review 87:BUT- Fridge badly in need of being defrosted! It could not work efficiently with all that built up ice. Internet inaccessible

Review 88:Very clean and comfortable Roomy Kitchenette great

Review 89:Very friendly staff, clean with very comfy bed! Stayed on lengthy trip one night in hotel on way home, paid almost 150 for one night, so Spanish Trails was a great deal for me!

Review 90:Non-smoking room reeked of smoke, no phone, no hair dryer, dangerous electrical repair on microwave cord, old dirty bathroom tile floor/wall and rusty bathtub drain, in-wall A/C unit noisy, bed headboard loose, road noise, bedding worn, office closed early in evening and opened at 8 a.m.

Review 91:Location was in-town, room larger than normal

Review 92:Homeless sleeping in the laundry/ice machine area. Office solution was to give us $.50 to go to the grocery store to buy $2.00 worth of ice. Very marginal place.

Review 93:Price

Review 94:Aging buildings that do need maintenance experts to come through. Doors sticking and things like that. I still strongly recommend though.

Review 95:Very affordable and comfortable. ..great for the price.

Review 96:Two star hotel with the rate of a three star. No phone or clock in the room. Area around outside or the room entrance untidy. Narrow parking spaces.

Review 97:The staff was friendly and obliging. City Market and shopping directly across the street. Free city transportation (Tram) stop in front of hotel.

Review 98:The service and location are perfect. The only problem was the room was not real clean. The bathroom had mold around the edges. But the bedding was clean and comfortable. As long as you can get past the few deep cleaning problems, its a good inexpensive place to stay.

Review 99:No pool, if you really wanted a kitchenette there was no to cook, no cook top or stove. Is an older property, but decently maintained.

Review 100:Liked the refrigerator with freezing compartment to refreeze our ice packs. However, it did not keep ice cream frozen. Nice to have a separate kitchen sink. Right by the free troll stop.

Review 101:Almost everything but location. Bathrooms very very dirty/moldy and TV was extremely outdated. No continental breakfast was offered. Had to "BEG" front desk person for additional wash clothes.

Review 102:Location

Review 103:Be warn! If you arrive late (10 pm for us) you will need to call a phone number to have someone at the desk for your check-in! Just unbelievable! Hopefully I bought a sim card a few days ago and was able to dial this number : so not recommended for international travelers like us. A bit expensive and no breakfast...

Review 104:Maid did not even empty trash one day and did very little cleaning. Needs some remodeling.

Review 105:Location was good. The price was good compared to other motels, but still a little high.

Review 106:There were not enough towels for the 4 adults. The shower head was very loose. It appeared shabby and not well taken care of. It was an OK place to stay.

Review 107:The staff was very friendly and helpful and the location was good for our activities.

Review 108:Wifi was a bit slow.

Review 109:Outside premises were very clean and tidy. We asked for extra pillows when booking and there were 6 on each bed, good quality ones too. Then the staff came with even more

Review 110:The fridge was very noisy.

Review 111:Well located and reasonably priced for Durango. Although the structure was old, the room had a great bed, good towels and was very clean. Just opposite a lovely supermarket, and a quick drive to downtown Durango.

Review 112:Air conditioner was not functioning properly. Asked the management for some help and was told to shut if off for a period of time. I asked if other rooms were available, then they sent someone in to check it. It never did cool the room properly. The temperature was about 98 outside. No phone in the room, no coffee maker, no kleenex and to get ice for room usage cost you a quarter. The maid leaving an envelope asking for tip was a bit too much. Will not return and will not recommend.

Review 113:Bed was sunk-in in the middle, toilet didn't flush properly, charged for ice, no pool, tips were requested for maid service, ac unit very dirty

Review 114:good sized room, kitchenette, close to everything, friendly front office staff

Review 115:Pool was filled in, so kids were disappointed.

Review 116:The conveniently located free shuttle service to and from downtown Durango. Typical room that was clean.

Review 117:Dirty room needs vacuuming. On main street and noise at night. Needs updating. Broken aircon in the room.

Review 118:Supermarket across the street. At Durango Tram stop.

Review 119:Chairs on deck should be washed. Looked like they had never been cleaned. That was only thing wrong. Would definitely stay there again.

Review 120:Bed was very comfortable. Location was great.

Review 121:The room was just a little dated but nothing that would prevent us from going back again if and when we are in the area.

Review 122:The location was good and a short distance to the activities we were scheduled for. The staff were excellent in trying to help us navigate to our destinations and the rooms was clean, a little dated but it was equipped with a microwave and refrigerator, not much more you really need.

Review 123:The office did not open until 7 or 7:30 so there was no coffee for early birds.

Review 124:They were friendly and helpful. the Inn itself is old and in need of some updates, but clean and comfortable.

Review 125:that it is very old they need to keep up the place. there was not any tissue and no phone and no one in the office early in the morning and after 8 pm some of the security was lacking

Review 126:grocery store was across the street room was clean

Review 127:The parking situation. It seemed everyone was placed in the same building so parking wasn't convenient.

Review 128:The staff was very quick to respond when we called them for extra towels or tv remote was broken. The rooms were a little bigger than most hotels so that was nice with 4 adults. Would we stay again absolutely!!

Review 129:double lock on door for security is only available from inside of room. would be better if you can also double lock when you leave the room.

Review 130:room cleanliness

Review 131:With a kid in college at Fort Lewis we have stayed at a lot of hotels in Durango. Many we never went back to, Spanish Trails we return to often. Its clean, has comfortable beds, and is easy on the budget. If you want lots of frills and extras, this isn't your hotel. If you want a comfortable bed to crash after playing hard in Durango, this could be your place.

Review 132:Our room was very close to the road. Air conditioner was loud.

Review 133:You get what you pay for. I did not want luxury. Just hot water, bath, comfortable place to sleep since we were out doing things most of the time.

Review 134:The remote to the tv didn't work. The toilet bowl needed to be manually filled with water to flush. For the price a continental breakfast would have been nice. I originally booked a king size room for 79$ a night. But when I edited my option to a non smoking room it automatically changed my room to a double queen which was more expensive.

Review 135:It was clean and the staff was nice.
