Reviews for Hotel Shattuck Plaza

Review 1:The bed was not as comfortable as other hotels I have visited. The price was a bit steep.

Review 2:Love the location and the decor. The staff was very accommodating as well.

Review 3:Parking is a problem! It's not provided by the hotel. There's a public garage close by. It's expensive ($35-$40/night) and it's closed on holidays. On street parking is scarce and leaving a car there is a bit scary because there is a significant homeless population dwelling on the nearby streets.

Review 4:I like the "feel" of the hotel. So much better than the chains. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food in the dining room (at least breakfast) is very good.

Review 5:Disappointed that they would not honor our companies negotiated rate. Also, early morning front desk staff were completely not helpful.

Review 6:Great location and wonderful bar and restaurant service.

Review 7:Booking.com reserved us in the SMALLEST room I have seen in my life. I asked for a king bed and got a bed that would fit one adult and a 5 year old child. The hotel moved us to a better room but told us to never book online but call them directly for a reservation. I paid over $300.00 per night for that horrid small room! The breakfast was slow in FIVE restaurant and my eggs were served cold with musty tasting potatoes. Ugh!

Review 8:The hotel moved me out of the room that Booking.com put me in.

Review 9:Bartender's enthusiastic interest in addressing clients. Understanding of wines. Warm reception at the front desks and helpful anytime I was in the lobby.

Review 10:Very convenient locale, yet I felt totally cozy inside the hotel - lobby, restaurant, my room. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Loved the ice cold fruit-laced water at the desk.

Review 11:This is a very expensive hotel for what you get.

Review 12:The hotel was fine. I have stayed there before. The bathrooms are small and my room had a double bed, not even a queen. The room was very small.

Review 13:Standard rooms are somewhat small. Noise: either you are facing the exhausts of the AC system running all night long, or you are facing a main street. Fitness centre is a joke!

Review 14:after an upgrade, good room with well equipped bathroom. Staff very pleasant

Review 15:Location, room, staff. Next to BART and bus stops; no need to rent car. Close to university. Variety of places to eat on Shattuck and side streets. Several excellent restaurants. It's an old hotel thoroughly renovated. So rooms are smallish - get over it.

Review 16:Set wake up call but did not get it nd staff checked and said they do not know why we did not get the wake up call This caused problems and stress getting to my return flight

Review 17:Staff was friendly be responsive

Review 18:Counter in bathroom very small....

Review 19:The staff members at the front desk were very accomadating and pleasant to deal with. Many thanks for their assistance and smiles.

Review 20:Location,view of the hills, quality of the room. The bar/restaurant is also excellent. Proximity to Bart makes it not necessary to have a car. Moreover, it is walking distance to good restaurants.

Review 21:There are numerous street people at all hours of the day and night. Just part of Berkeley.

Review 22:We had never been to Berkeley and wanted to attend shows at Freight & Storage and take BART down into San Francisco. We chose Hotel Shattuck for these reasons. It was perfect! The hotel is immaculate, staff are exceptional (very helpful), and we loved the hotel and the location.

Review 23:Pillows were hard, ac did not work in our room, but it was cool enough to open the windows.

Review 24:We mentioned when we booked that we were traveling for our anniversary. The staff surprised us with champagne, chocolate coverered strawberries, and a very nice note! Many places to walk to right outside of the hotel. Or a quick Uber ride to other places. Very clean hotel with a modern updated style. Parking is on the street with a meter or self park in the garage across the street, for about $30 a day. We had a great time and visited many breweries and tap rooms that were located in Berkeley.

Review 25:Everything else. No parking to begin with. Not valet. Just street parking and a garage across the street. The decor is loud and dated. The bed wasn't very comfortable. The carpet in our room needed to be reinstalled. Room service only started at 7a and we needed earlier as we had an earlier flight. The bartender in the lobby bar was standing at the register playing games on his phone.

Review 26:The lobby is rather striking when you first see it. The concierge was incredibly kind and helpful. As was the check in person.

Review 27:Room was tiny and very hard to find........and very overpriced for the so-so location.

Review 28:The restaurant and bar were both EXCELLENT. Some of the best food I've ever had in Berkeley.

Review 29:I didn't necessarily have a bad experience but I was concerned of the number of homeless people; again nothing happened and nobody did anything to my rental - it was just a concern.

Review 30:I liked the whole feel of the hotel; it felt very authentic to its history and people were very respectful. It's décor was lovely; I told everyone about it.

Review 31:Our room faced Shattuck Avenue which has a lot of noise well past midnight. The room was just big enough for two people but lacked enough surfaces to lay out our things. And finally there was the bathroom which is a mere 2 feet from the bed with A sliding door. Not noise proof.

Review 32:in addition to the great location near campus and downtown Berkeley the hotel offered us a nice hip vibe which is unusual in Berkeley hotels. A lively bar during happy hour, with serious cocktails.

Review 33:I found a dead cockroach in my bathroom! Disgusting! Also on a first day I informed hotel managers that my coffee machine didn't work and asked to repair it - no reaction, I did on a second day - no reaction, so I spent 5 nights their and they didn't do anything with this. Out of joint conduct!

Review 34:Cocktails at the bar are good. Not so far from Telegraph Avenue and UC Berkeley, approx. 20 minutes walking.

Review 35:Very little storage for clothes and limited floor space for suitcases. Can hear people talking as they pass your door.

Review 36:Lively, open feeling to lobby. Had Sunday brunch in restaurant and it was delicious, with great view of activity on street. Small but well decorated and appointed room and bathroom. Very attractive. Liked form the moment we walked in the door.

Review 37:My husband and I are young newly weds and stayed here after our ceremony. We had a beautiful platter of fruit and a nice bottle of wine waiting in the room for us. The staff was friendly and made sure we had what we needed. It was a lovely stay!

Review 38:Unlike more modern hotels, not much "public space" available in this hotel; room was pretty small.

Review 39:Location is superb; Five restaurant is outstanding; bar is great; fitness facility is small but with great machines; room was comfortable and well decorated

Review 40:room is small and overpriced. staff members at reception desk is not very attentive. doesn't know much about local businesses and attractions.

Review 41:location is good.

Review 42:I had a lot of electronic issues. lights didn't work, heater and safe deposit box didn't work. I had to have the maintenance person there 3 times. (they came quickly and resolved the issues). I couldnt call down to the front desk but I had to go down and ask which was annoying. You need a direct line to the front to ask questions.

Review 43:Service was fast and efficient

Review 44:Smelly corridors. Restaurant breakfast not so good quality, inadequate description of what you get, but service friendly by many young people

Review 45:Service friendly professional

Review 46:No parking was provided by the hotel. The front desk could only say that because it is a historic hotel, there is no available parking. ?????

Review 47:The doormen were very helpful in directing us to where we can park.

Review 48:Somewhat expensive. Expensive breakfast.

Review 49:Excellent Location, just a few steps away from the BART station entrance. Spacious rooms. Fast wireless Internet.

Review 50:The rooms were small though well designed. No comfortable chair if you wished to relax.

Review 51:The best thing about the Hotel Shattuck is its location, right by the Bart in downtown Berkeley.

Review 52:No parking or assistance with parking our car. "Find someplace on the street or use the parking garage down the street". Unexpected.

Review 53:Clean room. Big room. A lot of money for these though.

Review 54:The price of the room with their city taxes approached $300.

Review 55:The location was great for us as we were seeing Jack Johnson at the Greek theater that night. Very comfortable bed, good night's sleep, blackout drapes, double pane windows to block out noise, updated carpet, colorful and tasteful hotel interior, motion sensor lights in the bathroom that came on when you entered. The staff directed us to a parking lot that was only $15 for 24 hours instead of $35 for a closer parking structure.

Review 56:Slow internet was a small annoyance, but the two cockroaches I saw on the walls in the hallway soured my experience severely

Review 57:Free wifi, a comfortable bed, safe location, and a friendly staff

Review 58:Parking. There isn't a dedicated parking to the building. Parking structure is across the street or behind the building which are separate entities.

Review 59:Location. Clean.
