Reviews for Hale Hapu'u
Review 1:The place was freezing cold and had a damp feel when we arrived. Furnace didn't work all night. We were a party of three and needed two bedrooms but were only able to use one bedroom which had a free standing gas fireplace in the room and electric blanket on the bed. Could not use the second bedroom upstairs because there was no heat. Ended one of us had to sleep on the sofa in the living room and use the fireplace in there. Had to get up to throw more logs in the fireplace every couple hours throughout the night. Aside from the furnace issue, the dust level in the house seems like either from poor cleaning or the house has not been rented out for months! The dust level on the nightstands in the one bedroom we used was quite disgusting. Dust on all furniture horizontal surfaces in this bedroom was thick enough you could see the build up. Only the bedroom had window shades. Windows in the rest of the house had no curtains/blinds giving the feeling of no privacy at night despite the house being isolated on a private property. We had booked for a two nights stay but had to shortened by one night and had to find an alternate place for our second night because this house was just too cold. Tried to get a refund for the night we couldn't stay but the owner denied our request. Booking.com was of no help in trying to resolve the problem for us either. Would not recommend renting this place to stay during winter months. Probably low turnover/usage explains the freezing cold and damp air in the house and the dust level.
Review 2:The house was spacious. Nice kitchen and fully stocked with all appliances.
Review 3:We loved staying here. It was surprisingly spacious, and we had it all to ourselves. It was very private, and hidden away surrounded by lush rainforest. It had everything we needed and much much more! It was extremely well located for the volcano and national park. We wished we had stayed longer! Listening to the forest as you fall asleep or wake is a great feeling.
Review 4:Nothing.
Review 5:This roomy, modern, well-furnished home located in a secluded rain forest gave us a pleasant and relaxing place to come home to after a long day of hiking and sightseeing at the nearby volcano national park. The wi-fi and satellite tv gave us the option of connecting to the world when we wanted to. It was a most memorable stay.
Review 6:A couple of things to be aware of about the home itself - it's very open all the way around, so, for families or groups, be aware that sound travels throughout the house. There are many windows, which is nice, however there are no window coverings so clear nights and early mornings are bright in the home. We were prepared for the cool weather - this is a cool and wet Hawaii location, which you need to be aware of when deciding to stay in Volcano!
Review 7:This is a wonderful property in the heart of the rainforest in Volcano, HI. It is incredibly close to Volcanoes National Park, so it's easy to make trips back and forth to hike during the days and go back to view the lava glow at night. The home is large and well-stocked. The property manager is one of the best we've ever encountered and offered helpful advice, quick responses, and made us feel very welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there - walking around the property and enjoying the relaxing peace and quiet of the rainforest. We would definitely go back.
Review 8:Lovely house with everything we needed including wood for a fire. Lots of room, beautifully designed and decorated. It's only about a five minute drive from Volcanos National Park and closer to the restaurants in Volcano.
Review 9:the house is great with many facilities and Krish is very kind and willing to provide suggestions for the trip.Running in the countryside is really amazing. Some furnitures are giving us more surprise.
Review 10:For the rental price of this property, the mattresses desperately need upgrading. They were not very comfortable for sleeping. The house needs a more in depth cleaning, ie, get rid of the cob webs and especially the nasty black spider living in the light above the kitchen sink. The musty smell is noticeable and the allergies that some in our group suffer from definitely kicked in during our stay at Hale Hapu'u.
Review 11:When wanting to engage in activities at Volcano National Park, this house is a great location as the drive to the park only takes a few minutes. Since the weather was quite cold while we were there, the fireplace was wonderful. The hosts left lots of burnable wood.
Review 12:Heater was barely adequate in the cold nights - thanks for the fireplace though. Rooms a little musty.
Review 13:Location to Volcano National Park Great. Facilities had all the necessities - it was well stocked. It was clean. Plenty of room to move about in a large log cabin home. Working fireplace.
Review 14:We loved everything about this property it truly was heaven on earth....

Review 21:It was perfect~didn't want to leave! Loved the peaceful area and forest that makes you feel like you are miles away from your neighbors, the house was beautifully designed and cozy, enjoyed the fireplace, hot tub and full kitchen. Manager was wonderful to work with too-very welcoming and accommodating. We can't wait to return!
Review 22:Absolutely beautiful house - never seen anything like that for rent - it's been designed, built and decorated for a personal use, with great taste and stylish details. Great location - only a few minutes to volcano visitors center, 40 min drive from Hilo airport. Tropical rainforest with orchids starts right in the backyard! Absolutely gorgeous place!
Review 23:We wish we could have stayed longer. It would have been nice to have some kindling available for the fireplace. We are adept at building fires, but someone who wasn't, might have struggled.
Review 24:It was a beautiful house with excellent facilities. Very clean and very comfortable! There was a lovely fireplace and beautiful grounds. Krish was more than attentive answering all of our questions in a timely and thorough manner.
Review 25:There is no shopping nearby so make sure you get supplies in a largertown before going to the house. The owner warned us of this -thankfully.
Review 26:This house near Volcano Park was absolutely fabulous. It'sbeautifully decorated and fully equipped for a perfect stay. The ownerwas very helpful in making our stay perfect.
Review 27:Had to drive to the nearest laundry - it would have been great to have a washer and dryer on premise. A couple more pots and pans in the kitchen would have been great.
Review 28:Location was great and the house itself was amazing! The hot tub, deck and hammock were in a great setting to enjoy the surrounding nature.
