Reviews for Berkeley Inn

Review 1:Difficult to understand manager. Grounds dirty and unkempt.

Review 2:Price was good. Close to what we wanted. Fridge and microwave in room. That was a bonus. In Australia fridges are in all motel rooms plus cups milk etc. Was a surprise that these things are mostly not standard in all rooms in US

Review 3:The worst was the smell of cigarette smoke in the bathroom. When we were in the room and had the bathroom fan running, the smoke smell diminished. But after being gone all day the bathroom smelled like somebody had been smoking in there. I think the motel ventilation needs adjusting.

Review 4:The best parts were parking, wifi & microwave. The neighborhood was less scary than around the two motels we stayed in down the BART line.

Review 5:No parking available , wi fi didn't work , room was gasliy no pictures no color , TV was made in the 80s, shower was at atrsious , clerk was rude, barly spoke English, had to park my car two blocks away in a bad neiborhood. No coffee in room, bed was hard !!!! I threw away 100.00 bucks should of just slept in my car !!!!

Review 6:Nothing !!!!!

Review 7:Arrived after a very long flight with two suitcases. Asked whether there is a lift. Manager simply said no. That's it. Would have been nice to offer a hand. Room had a smell I personally didn't like (carpet as if cats are in the house).

Review 8:These are not Berkeley Inn's fault, - My wife said that there were no grocery in the neighborhood. - My friend visited us from SFO by BART and he mistook the station to get off. The nearest "North Berkeley" is confusing to "Downtown Berkeley". The signature of "Downtown Berkeley" station on the wall was only "Berkeley".

Review 9:- I stayed from July 1 2015 and I had to change my plan (11days->10days). I told to a landlord on July 7, he was kind enough to accept. - We don't have a car but we could visit some nice shops and restaurants on foot (such as flight001 and vik's chaat on the 4th street within 10 minutes) - I could walk to UCB for35-40 minutes, it was good exercise.

Review 10:We hardly spend time in the room . However , at the end of the day . We just want a place to take a shower, and get a good nights rest to venture out the next day. Berkely Inn, did just that . It provided us the assurity of having a place to go to at the end if the day. The microwave and the small fridge were perfect! Drinks were kept cool... Microwave popcorn was delicious as we relaxed and watch a good movie before dozing off!

Review 11:Parking was a gamble rooms was small for the price bathroom had no ! Counter space room did not look very clean electric outlet was bad had move cord to make fridg work off the top desk person was not friendly so that set the tone for the stay

Review 12:Location

Review 13:this is a bare bones motel - the parking is very tight and difficult to enter and leave - there was no clock in the room - the towels were very thin -

Review 14:Parking lot was small. I checked in late and there was no spot left but the staff let me park at the handicap space.

Review 15:Room was clean and everything worked as expected. The Wifi worked without issue and was very fast. It was a good place to stay 2 days for a graduation. Great value.

Review 16:Room was not ready at check in, we waited 30 minutes after check in for them to clean and the room still smelled bad with air freshener to try and cover it. Poor draining in shower. Fridge and microwave had to be rigged to work. Paper thin walls, I was able to hear conversations on the neighbors television from my room.

Review 17:Free parking and fairly easy check in and check out. Room came with a fridge and microwave and a small table and chair. Easy access to room from parking lot. Good location to gas stations and food places.

Review 18:The owners need to spend some money on cleaning (exterior) and painting. For the amount charged this place should be in better condition. Parking limited.

Review 19:The room had mismatched thrift store looking furniture and not in a neat funky way. , so not much care taken in making the room feel comfortable. No tub, just a small shower, fine for one night. Old school TV was large and hard to watch because of its placement and how small the room was (quite small).

Review 20:They had the best price I could find and for a one night stay that's important to me. The bed was comfortable and clean. WiFi worked well and location was good. Room also came with fridge and microwave which was convenient.

Review 21:Upon arrival, I checked the room. The bed spread was dirty and the room was very small. I had to insist that I get a clean blanket, because the attendant said he didn't have any more. Also the room above mine a running toilet that ran off and on the entire night. Didn't sleep well at all.

Review 22:It was conveniently located to my work place.

Review 23:so dingy and dirty. my non smoking room smelled like tobacco and indian food which transfered to my clothes. It was so dirty that my allergies were going crazy. The staff was unhelpful and unfriendly, and the walls were paper thin. Moreover, its near a train and busy road so the whole place shakes every few minutes when the train goes by... oh and no elevator or assistance dragging your stuff up four flights of stairs. worst motel experience I've ever had, by far. I booked and paid for two nights but left after the first. don't waste your money.

Review 24:Not much.. they had wifi and a fridge.

Review 25:The internet connection was not working in the room although I booked a room with internet connection. I was rather disappointed, so I complained and they discounted the rate of the room by 10 dollars (but I had to ask for)

Review 26:Need better pillows. Small rooms

Review 27:The hotel is ok for an overnight stay while being out most day or night. Offers free parking & it's a walking distance to the campus & town. Rooms are small & ok. Good Cafe next door & cool pub just down street along with nice international stores.

Review 28:Early check-in okay'd, not honored. Bathroom sucked(ants, used shampoo, no H2O pressure). Bed was a double but listed as Queen! Wi-Fi was difficult to log into on mobile. Parking spots were TINY!!

Review 29:Variety of places to eat nearby. Pillows were amazing Couldn't hear occupants thru the walls.

Review 30:This place was horrible. Nothing at all redeeming. The price isn't worth it. Don't make the same mistake we did.

Review 31:Nothing positive to stay. Even though it was cheap, it wasn't worth it.

Review 32:Harsh overhead lighting, so we used the lamp instead

Review 33:If you're looking for a basic, clean, safe place to sleep, and a good value, this is it. The staff was friendly, polite, and very helpful. Easy to find, located just a short walk from No. Berkeley BART, a couple of blocks from University Ave.

Review 34:minimalist to the extreme. Barely room for the one wooden chair and table. The towels must be replaced - my rags are in better condition than these holey, scratchy towels. I'd go back if no other rooms are available in the immediate area.

Review 35:the price, clean, quiet.

Review 36:This is very basic accommodation the rooms are rough around the edges but the price is good. If you are expecting 3 star standard you will be disappointed but given the price this worked just fine for me. Also be aware that you are 10mins walk from the nearest BART and 20-30 mins away from downtown Berkeley.

Review 37:Price, comfortable bed, good aircon.

Review 38:Paper thin walls. We actually got a call from the manager at 1:00 a.m. asking us to turn off the bathroom fan because the neighbor was complaining. The beds were HORRIBLY uncomfortable. The carpet is disgusting so wear shoes.

Review 39:The bathroom was decently cleaned. The location was good. The late-night on street parking saved us in our UHaul truck. We stayed here for the price because we'd be there for less than 6 hours. It was very close to our destination and safer than staying in Oakland - IMP.

Review 40:We could hear the Amtrack's horn blowing. I think they blow more than necessary.

Review 41:The staff fixed the clogged sink right away. I really appreciated it.

Review 42:Great location. Friendly staff. This was my 5th stay in 2 years!

Review 43:A little bit dusty

Review 44:bed was uncomfortable and hard to sleep on lots of street noise.

Review 45:location

Review 46:Great location for our needs...location parking, and food nearby

Review 47:none.

Review 48:Fast check in and out.

Review 49:quiet, convenient (next door to a breakfast restaurant).

Review 50:Everything

Review 51:Nothing

Review 52:Bathroom has mold. Dusty drapery falling off rod.

Review 53:Location and seemed quiet. Quick walk to eatery. Near Cal.

Review 54:Great location and a good value.

Review 55:I will be back in a few months.

Review 56:Staff was great. Parking is tight but there is street parking. BART is a few blocks away.

Review 57:staff were blunt to the point of being rude. TV was broken. Room stank of smoke even at 2am

Review 58:Location wasn't to bad

Review 59:Quiet, easy

Review 60:Parking problem

Review 61:Some smell of smoke in a non-smoking room, there is a sound when turning on the light.

Review 62:Good wifi, comfortable bed.

Review 63:Bed bugs

Review 64:Not much to like but the location seemed pretty central

Review 65:No hairdryer, barely any parking, pothead neighbors, suspicious stains everywhere, mold in the shower.

Review 66:stairs. noisy neighbors

Review 67:price. availability on short notice, owner gave me a small discount for second night!

Review 68:Wi-fi was literally up and down every 2 minutes

Review 69:Room clean, very comfortable bed

Review 70:No phone access both International and Local calls

Review 71:Wi-Fi Staff

Review 72:I drove in later in the evening (after afternoon check in) and they held a parking spot for me...friendly, safe and clean

Review 73:Wi-fi connection was really weak.

Review 74:Simple, clean and convenient.

Review 75:No WC brush in the room!!!

Review 76:Good value for money Close to Berkeley Marina and BART station

Review 77:dirty, old, to less for the money.

Review 78:it has a parking lot.

Review 79:location not so good

Review 80:cheap, clean and ok service, just don't expect

Review 81:The room was too small

Review 82:No. I don't like it at all.

Review 83:Noise

Review 84:No major dramas but it is basically a place to sleep.

Review 85:Location. Staff were helpful. Good places to eat nearby. 10-15 minute walk to BART station.

Review 86:Very accommodating

Review 87:Nothing. It fulfilled my needs.

Review 88:Location and cleanliness

Review 89:Front "office" was just a window you walked up to and rang a bell for service. Staff was not friendly at all. For the price, the Super 8 down the street was better.

Review 90:At least the Berkeley Inn had it's own parking lot, even if the spaces were extremely small and difficult to get in to.

Review 91:Close enough to the rail line to hear the rumble of passing freight cars (punctuated by the horn sounding at the crossings) every hour all night long. Walls thin enough to hear the man in the next room toweling himself dry after his shower (sound of towel rubbing against skin - that's how well you can hear).

Review 92:Very low price for a room in Berkeley. You could pay $400 a night at the Claremont, but who wants to do that? Easy to get to from I-80. Reasonably safe neighborhood not far from Cal campus. Refrigerator and microwave in room. Polite staff. Good breakfast spot next door. Walking distance to grocery stores. (note Spartan accommodations and 1950s construction with seismic hazard warning - be brave and have an evacuation plan)

Review 93:The walls were a bit shabby and toilet seat old & worn out

Review 94:I like the family that runs the business and motel maid supplied us enough shampoo and clean towels !

Review 95:Really unsanitary! A lot of food places and bus stops nearby. Thin walls + traffic = really loud nights.

Review 96:Cheap Prices Relatively close to Berkeley U.

Review 97:The towel of the motale are not clean and the mix between the one that we use in bathroom & these the put it on the floor.

Review 98:The man & his wife in the reception are so kind.

Review 99:The Berkeley Inn is a no-frills place to stay which does not pretend to be anything else. Its simplicity is a relief and it is a place I will return to.

Review 100:There's some noisy at night. The network is not very good at night.

Review 101:The sheet, quilt, toiletries are replaced everyday. Good price, safe place, and nice hosts are very impressive. Thanks a lot.

Review 102:it is not close to the bus or bart line; long walk to Berkeley.

Review 103:The hotel is run by an nice Indian couple; the room is clear, and the price is very reasonable.

Review 104:Neighborhood didn't look the best.

Review 105:It was "fine" for what I was there for - bed and shower. It was not close enough to the campus (or BART) to recommend to others.

Review 106:Off street parking was limited, but street parking was available after 6P.M. Room could have used a luggage rack--did't ask for one. Thirdfloor room hard on knees if that's a concern.

Review 107:Our room was clean and comfortable, if a little small. We stayed fournights without any complaints. Shower was clean with plenty of hotwater. Staff were pleasant.

Review 108:Every single other aspect of the motel. More people lived there, thanrented rooms for the night. There were about ten very tight parkingspots, way fewer than needed. The clerk was rude, behind glass, andcouldn't answer questions about the area. Not that I could have goneanywhere, because I was a lone woman, in a very bad part of town. Eventhe security lock above the door lock was torn from the door!! The roomwas a dump. The moldy smell of it made gave me an asthma attack. I haveno idea where they took their room photo, but it certainly wasn't inmy room. Furniture cracked and gouged, one plastic lawn chair to sit in,and I was afraid housekeeping had never been in my room.

Review 109:It was close to the conference I attended, and it was cheap.

Review 110:My girlfriend and I got some bites on legs and arms, and I think they came from the bed sheets.

Review 111:I was surprise because I thought it might be a very noisy room, but I was very confortable with the quietness of it.

Review 112:The staff were rude, unfriendly. The price was expensive for such poor facilities and rude service. The room needed a lot of renovation and there was no hot water. They need to lower the price of the room if they are going to not improve the motel and have a better attitude toward the patrons that keep them in business.

Review 113:The location was good. There was available parking also.

Review 114:No COFFEE! No iron. Place was falling apart re: looking like dry rot. No tub. View of a shelled-out building. Thin walls. Depressing.

Review 115:Staff; clean; nice, hard beds & flat pillows.

Review 116:Internet was off more than it was on, and snail like speeds.

Review 117:Value. The cleaning staff was really cleaning the common areas. There was a sign indicating that the building would be dangerous in the event of an earthquake. I guess this Is a negative, but I survived, so it was kind of exciting. For a budget property, it was decent.

Review 118:Smelled a bit like smoke even though it was non-smoking. Toilet would run throughout the night, and the front door didn't close...

Review 119:Cheap and next to my favorite breakfast place in Berkeley

Review 120:A little dirty but still not that big a deal

Review 121:Love the price and hot water shower just wanted a place to sleep in theBerkeley area for my budget and based off the reviews was nervous but Iwas pleasantly surprised! I will definitely be staying again!!

Review 122:Clerk was reluctant to show room first upon check-in, but eventually didso. Quality of furnishings and decor was older, and a little depressing.Door to hall/stairway was left unlocked (did not feel secure incommon area).

Review 123:Convenient location for driving to business (near freeways toSF/Emeryville). Cleanliness, while not superior, was adequate. Freeparking was limited, but great.

Review 124:Very Good Place To Stay , Very Clean , Very Secure/ Safe, Good Price/Value For Money Thanks

Review 125:My only complaint was that parking was limited on the hotelproperty but there was overnite parking on the st in front of thehotel which was free

Review 126:Convenient to uc Berkeley and the least expensive of all the hotelsduring homecoming weekend. It was more than adequate as a place to sleepand shower.

Review 127:I didn't feel as safe..even though there were security cameras..the windows in my room were secured by only a latch with no safety locks..and the actual door had no bolt lock either..just a slide card lock on the outside door.

Review 128:Check in was quick..staff was pleasant..room was extremely clean, "spotless" actually!

Review 129:No place in side the shower stall to put soap and shampoo.

Review 130:Hotel Manager on site kept a close watch on activity in and around hotel area. Appreciated the extra attention to maintaining a safe environment for guests. Rooms were clean and had all ammenities expected.
