Reviews for Hotel Majestic Saigon
Review 1:Hallways are not airconditioned and boiling hot even in winter. Everything is an extra cost: breakfast is not included in rack rate, swimming pool and gym are $13 per hour. Room furniture is old Chinese style and despite there being four chairs in our room, none were comfortable to sit on. All food & drinks are very expensive.
Review 2:Big, airconditioned, well-soundproofed rooms in a beautiful old building. Very well trained staff. Our room had a view of the river.
Review 3:There's nothing that we didn't like
Review 4:From the staff to the hotel it was a very comfortable and happy trip enjoyed everything sittings on the roof top bar looking down at the river was excellent
Review 5:Everything was amazing, nothing was bad.
Review 6:The building is amazing, and the rooms overlooking the pool are comfortable, quite, and a pleasure to be in. The food selection is huge, from the morning breakfast to the nightly cocktails and buffet. The location is right near all the shopping areas, tourist areas, and right around the corner from the city centre. I will definitely stay again
Review 7:Supplied different credit card for final charge and the hotel also charged on the credit card given for security. In short overcharged am now chasing for refund
Review 8:Excellenthotel
Review 9:This hotel is very centrally located with a great view to enjoy breakfast. The staff are very efficient and knowledgeable with most speaking excellent English. The room size was great and the fresh fruit each day was a lovely touch. A little pricey overall but this was for a special occasion so worth paying a bit extra.
Review 10:We had a riverside room and it was amazing to watch the traffic (road and river) go by - best place also for New Years fireworks. Hotel was very welcoming after being out all day (foyer in particular was cool and had the most amazing smell).
Review 11:A lot of staff seems of earlier times and could do with a refresher in smiling for service, or loose out against other top hotels (we visited another 4). The hotel has (still) real old charm compared to artificial Raffles in Singapore which shares the lack of warmth on staff faces. That does not mean they can't smile as the doormen began to recognise us after four days, and began to smile back when being smiled at.
Review 12:Location is central but so are many others hotels of all price levels. We booked the hotel fr its historic aspect and booked rooms in the old wing that were as expected (old building/modernised rooms) and would have been even prettier if not for communist area dim lighting all over (now for energy reasons but you can fix lightbulbs that are bright AND environment conscious).
Review 13:Wi-Fi cut out completely our last morning. Breakfast price outrageous, so we avoided.
Review 14:Staff was always pleasant and helpful. Historic atmosphere. Location within walking distance of most sights we wanted to see. Also found good, reasonable restaurants nearby. Comfortable room.
Review 15:The staff were a little formal and business like not as much fun as other hotels in Vietnam where the staff are warm and courteous . Also very upset to find the rate we paid for our booking (done 5weeks before) was actually more than twice what Booking.com was then charging at the time we arrived.
Review 16:Facilities
Review 17:You can hardly find sleep as it is very loud during the night, if you have a room facing the street or river. Windows are not soundproof. Breakfast service not very good. Allways need to ask for everything. Breakfast until 10:00 but at 09:30 service is partly akready breaking down the buffet. I sent an email two days before arrival to the hotel asking a question concerning sightseeing options. Until today I have not received an answer.
Review 18:Location is very good for exploring the city.
Review 19:Facilities and restaurant seem a bit dated but can't complain for the price paid.
Review 20:The location was great and the property definitely has an old world feel. Excellent value for the money and the location is super central and walking distance. Staff is very nice!
Review 21:Our stay was very pleasant and we found the renovation work carried out on a 1925 Hotel excellent having retained the old world colonial charm with modern facilities
Review 22:This hotel is such a haven. To be able to retreat to the quiet luxury and old world charm of the ground floor lounge or the roof top bar overlooking the river was exactly what we needed after a hectic day of sightseeing and negotiating the frantic traffic. The late check out facility, where you pay half the room rate to stay until 6pm, was fantastic given we had an evening flight.
Review 23:This hotel is pitched as a colonial-style luxury hotel. However, the presence of kitsch music in the bars and restaurants, disinterested and curt staff, and average rooms erodes any charm this hotel once had. Out of all of the hotels we stayed at in South East Asia, this was the most expensive and the least enjoyable.
Review 24:Location was great.
Review 25:Just a couple of minor things. One was people smoking on the terrace while others were still eating breakfast. The other was the (albeit modest) charge to use the PC and print out a boarding pass -- not the case in other hotels of this standard.
Review 26:It's worth paying the money just to see the history and the architecture. Room was spacious and bed very comfortable. The front door staff treat everyone like they matter.
Review 27:Check-in procedure was a little confusing. Pool is way too small. Gym too cramped. But overall it is a good hotel to get a feel of the old world's charm.
Review 28:I like the colonial architecture and interior, very comfy bed and attentive service from the staff. The cafe terrace overlooking the Saigon river is a relaxing spot even though the river itself isn't much of a sight.
Review 29:EVERYTHING. DIRTY ROOM. NOISY. POOR FOOD. A/C DIRECTLY ON YOUR FACE SO YOU CAN JUST CHOOSE BETWEEN HEADACHE OR HOT.
Review 30:NOTHING, JUST A BIT THE POSITION
Review 31:Classic old world colonial style hotel. Staff were great, especially the concierge who arranged various trips for us. Roof top bar is fantastic - I recommend the ginger mojito. The breakfast spread is great
Review 32:The staff were very cold. Did their job but no personal connection to guests. There were six in our party. We all commented on how unfriendly the staff were at the Majestic compared to the other 5 star hotels we had been staying at in Vietnam. A shame !!!!!!!
Review 33:The hotel is just beautiful, clean, maintained well.
Review 34:We could only stay one night.
Review 35:The hotel is very well situated by the river in the nicer part of District 1. The hotel gave us a river view room with a balcony which really added to the experience. The room was spacious with a luxury feel.
Review 36:We love boutique hotels of high class and with a sense of history, in the Majestic's case in the tradition of the great Asian hotels. In accord with this, the staff were courteous, beautifully trained and spoke very good English, from the attentive doormen to the friendly cleaning ladies.
Review 37:Hidden charges, does not advertise that sauna has a 10 dollar charge for hotel guests. After a long journey up fom Mui Ne I was extremely disappointed and refused to pay this charge as the room rate should reflect amenities as inclusive. Also a bit misleading on Booking.com that they advertise sauna but not that they charge.
Review 38:The best thing Majestic has going for it is that it's in the middle of Ho Chi Minh City. The house keeping staff where phenomenal and I can praise them highly enough.
Review 39:Second stay at this hotel and found it lacking from our visit 4 years ago. Breakfast buffet was not a great standard and definitely worse than before.Whole hotel seems little rundown as well as bar area.
Review 40:Loved area and look of hotel in general
Review 41:Heritage property with view of the river. Updated with modern facilities with retro look. Local hotel management that spares no effort to please their guests.
Review 42:the room is very humid and air conditioning is extremely loud
Review 43:The staff is very professional, the building itself is quite majestic, the 8th floor bar has a very nice view
Review 44:Give me more discount!
Review 45:The Majestic Saigon, often written in novels and reportage of events or wars. You can experience the history and excitement. Of courese the service and the room are perfect.
Review 46:It might be useful to be a bit more specific about the rooms' view. I had a Colonial Suite, and thought this would overlook the river. Not so.
Review 47:It is one of the grandes dames of Asian hotels. It is a little bit tired at places, but remains a majestic experience to see her. Staff was very friendly and helpful. And the LOCATION is by far the best in HCMC.
Review 48:Casino is all on screens, no real cards or players. Would not recommend this place for solo travelers because most of the crowd is in groups or are there for business , so little or no interaction.
Review 49:I liked the history of the Hotel . The location is good , located next to lake, nice and calm atmosphere. Staff is really helpful. Exchange rate provided at reception is better than airport. Easy taxi availability. Roof top bar is cozy with a good view.
Review 50:We loved the hotel and had a perfect stay. However, the food on the rooftop terrace could be better, it's far away from the high standards of e.g. the breakfast buffet.
Review 51:The hotel offers the amenities of 5-star hotel with classic grandeur in an amazing and atmospheric building.
Review 52:Extra beds in suite were very uncomfortable. Shower was over the bath and a mere trickle - floor wet. The only place in Vietnam that did not know the content of their food so I could easily feed my son or offer to make food for him
Review 53:location
Review 54:Nothing!
Review 55:The attention to detail, getting the little things right. The history and old world charm throughout the hotel. The view from the rooftop bars and restaurants
Review 56:We loved everything however having travelled from Nha Trang everything seemed a bit pricey in comparison. But really its what you would expect in a 5 star hotel in a big city.
Review 57:A beautiful hotel dating back to 1925, very ornate and well preserved. Our room was lovely with a little balcony and view of the Saigon river. We only stayed 2 nights and it rained heavily so we didn't get a chance to enjoy the pool area. However it looked great. Breakfast fab looking out over the river. Good positioning to explore the city.
Review 58:Everything was up to 3+ star quality, some 4-star
Review 59:Stayed in original wing of this hotel, room overlooking the nice swimming pool. Bathrooms were quite new, with modernized fixtures that follow the style of the original design from the French Indochina era . . . Delightful atmosphere throughout the hotel! Hotel is located riverside th Saigon River, and Rooftop Bar has one of the best views in town of the Saigon River, well worth enjoying.
Review 60:The staff were disinterested, the service fairly poor. The whole affair felt corporate & frankly overrated for what could have been quite a delightful old colonial building.
Review 61:The 7th floor bar had super views as did the restaurant
Review 62:the drink prices were a tad high
Review 63:beautiful colonial well maintained building. spacious well appointed rooms. great location. the bar on the top floor and breakfast area on 5th floor have the best views over the Saigon River and HCM City
Review 64:Wi-fi was a little scratchy. Also we understood when we booked that we would have water views, this did not happen as stated on our payment receipt. Also we were accused of not having paid for our return stay which had been paid for in cash on our first stay.
Review 65:The hotel was really beautiful. Fleur made us feel very welcome. Her servive is impeccable. The room was very well appointed. The staff were really honest when we left safe opened. Loved the rooftop bar.
Review 66:The 1st two nights there was weddings/functions above our room. The kept us awake from 9pm to 10.30pm. We then got them to move our room. The new room had an very old style bed which we could not sleep on. We upgraded to a suite for the rest of the stay. Overall not really good value for money, didn't feel like 5 star service.
Review 67:The Majestic is a fantastic old hotel, kind of its marketing itself a large luxury boutique Hotel. It has a great look feel and charm. A glorious old building, like a time warp. The more expensive rooms are the best bet, and value overall.
Review 68:The wifi barely worked (I had to work while away) and it was nearly impossible to either get on the Internet or stay on longer than 10 minutes over a 6 day period of our stay. Every time we took showers, the bathroom would flood. The cleaning staff had to clean it every day and told me it was the structure of the bathroom. The hook for the shower spray is low (it was at my eye level) so I had to do a mini backbend or squat to have the water run on me, I had the spray pointed down into the tub, but every time the water would splash on the wall it would run down and out of the tub all over the floor. When checking out, the staff didn't ask how our stay was.
Review 69:The rooms are grand and beautiful. The lobby is lovely to sit in and watch people passing through. We booked a private tour via the hotel which was wonderful.
Review 70:The upstairs bar all 5th floor lacked atmosphere. The band on the 8th floor bar was only average.
Review 71:Location, value for money, atmosphere and ambience especially in the foyer. Staff at re ration were very helpful, made excellent restaurant recommendation to Xu restaurant.
Review 72:I got a room without any window. It was extremely bad and the manager offered me a free ride to the airport as compensaition. Will most likely never stay at Majestic again. The restaurants in the hotel are quite bad and empty. This was my 4th or 5th stay but probably my last.
Review 73:Its a nice old building.
Review 74:Not a big issue but lifts small, old and slow.
Review 75:Whilst not to everyone's taste, the 'classical style' of the hotel's public rooms and bedrooms give an air of class. Varied breakfast choice taken either inside or outside on the 5th floor terrace was quality. Friendliness of staff.
Review 76:No extra bed in room for children unless paying extra. Roof top bar too expensive compared to the price of accomodation.
Review 77:Atmospheric colonial style including excellent breakfast with a wide variety of choices.
Review 78:Transfer from airport very expensive at 57USD. No family or through rooms so kids had to sleep in superate room. However neighbouring rooms requested through booking.com and these were provided.
Review 79:Great location. Pleasant staff. Good facilities.
Review 80:Too expensive to eat in the restaurants. Nasty damp "drain like" smell in the corridor to the room.
Review 81:Its like going back a few years in time, but in a good way. Class and luxury hits you at the door! Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Room we had was fantastic, though bit disappointed with the size of balcony. Breakfast selection was really good, plenty of choices.
Review 82:With construction and new developments happening everywhere in Ho Chi Minh, the Majestic has maintained it's colonial style whilst keeping its facilities updated and meeting the needs of todays travellers. The staff are very attentive and courteous.
Review 83:Our room was rather small for the price paid and looked out onto an office building. The air conditioner was very noisy.
Review 84:Heritage of the building made it more than just a hotel stay and the location was excellent. Enormous bed. View from rooftop bar of river and surrounding city.
Review 85:FFriendly greeting wonderful room with a view of the street chaos and the river. Delicious dinner and breakfast. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
Review 86:1. Inconvenient - there is no space to load and unload at the front of the hotel. My taxi driver had to park on the walk way to drop us off. 2. The lobby has too many gift shops that take the majority of the lobby area. If you have friends coming for visit, there is no seating area to meet friends (guests are not allow in the room). You must meet friend/guests at the restaurant nearby. 3. There are stair steps from the elevators to my room, not easy if you carry your own and heavy luggage. 4. The hall way to the room does not have enough lighting. It was dark and creepy like haunting house in Disney Land. 5. I love seafood buffet but I decide to go out because the outdoor restaurant on the 5th floor is not comfortable when it is hot and humid. 6. The staff at the lobby is not very friendly and accommodating. I choose the rate without breakfast because I want to have breakfast with friend outside of the hotel. They keep asking me, three times, if I understand that breakfast is not include. When they realize that I do not want to upgrade my room to higher rate that include breakfast, their attitude changes from warm to cold almost instantly.
Review 87:Only one thing - the old French structure. I get to experience and see this French style hotel. One night stay should be enough.
Review 88:Aircon went out in middle of night. Staff immediately came up to fix. Moved me to another room to sleep. Went back to old room aprx 7:30am to shower but aircon still down. Inner pool side rooms best because of street noise. Hotel could use double thermal pane windows in every room. Even inner rooms noisy.
Review 89:Location and Staff. If you know / appreciate history of ole' Sai Gon this is the place.
Review 90:Wonderful delicious breakfast - more like a brunch - on roof terrace overlooking river but beware of the extremely warm climate. It was too much for us in May.
Review 91:They dont acknowledge booking.com payments so had to pay again onarrival (so had to pay twice and still no refund - Forced by the hotelto pay twice, they didn't acknowledge the booking.com payment andmade me pay again - they told me they would refund the money frombooking.com however the "manager" was not there at checkout -I've emailed and they haven't replied. 1St night in Vietnam andtold no other option, or move hotel - not what you want when you have abooking.com Confirmation and payment has been taken. There are muchbetter hotels so dont stay here
Review 92:Disappointed
Review 93:I could only get a early evening flight and they charged me for a half day stay for checking out late. I think the rates per night are a little too much, but I still liked it there because of the incredible staff.
Review 94:Super clean, friendliest staff ever. Decent value. I believe it's a 5 Star hotel but it's not overwhelmingly luxurious. It's a very old hotel, but very beautiful and well kept.
Review 95:It didn't affect us as we were further away but the hotel is extending so I imagine that would create a lot of noise.
Review 96:This hotel ticked all the boxes for us. It was in a good location, the staff were very helpful and the breakfast was perfect overlooking the river. Would definetly stay again.
Review 97:Nothing
Review 98:Staff does not speak perfect English, but everyone offered to help like calling restaurants for us. Pool is not huge but cozy and the rooftop bar is pretty nice around sunset time for a couple drinks before heading out for dinner.
Review 99:Hotel needs to upgrade the rooms, decor looks old and tired, although room size is good. Spa areas are not very nice, seem old and dingy, needs refurbishment badly.
Review 100:Great location, we walked to many sites in city. Hotel offers excellent breakfast buffet. Room service menu is limited, but beef pho was great every time. Loved the roof restaurant at level 5 and bar on level 8, great views.
Review 101:Nothing.
Review 102:Everything - location is the best. Staff helpful. Breakfast (quality, service and location on 5th floor terrace) was a wonderful start to each day. We enjoyed the courtyard pool. Room was great with a very well-appointed bathroom.
Review 103:Would be handy to have had 2 outside chairs on balcony Moved on to Vin pearl Danang where tiger beer 70,000 dong vs Majestic 135,000 but by Australian standards still consider that cheap so not complaining
Review 104:Very friendly and helpful staff plus great service- we loved Harris one of the doorman! Rooftop bar and band great spot to kick back Impressed with how quiet our inside pool room was - slept well Convenience to tourist sites made it easy to get around and see Saigon Great bars and restaurants nearby
Review 105:The prices of drinks in the roof top bar were far too high.
Review 106:The roof top bar had great views over the river and the band were excellent. We had booked 2 rooms and were upgraded to a suite (probably because the hotel has a number of suites and, by using them for families, they can free up individual rooms.) The restaurant serving breakfast also had good views over the river and there was a good selection of things to eat.
Review 107:Breakfast extra to room cost at $30A pp was too expensive. Price quoted for airport pickup of $49 US. Taxi cost less than $10A.
Review 108:Location close to the river. Walking distance to many significant places. Grand hotel- friendly and helpful staff.
Review 109:The reception staff where the most unfriendly staff I had met during our Vietnam holiday. Booking in was a bit of a pain, as I only had my Visa card to hand and they wanted my Mastercard which was at the bottom of my luggage case, so in the middle of a 5 star hotel I had to start opening my case and rummaging through it to get my card. It would have been more helpful if I could of at least been able to do this from my room. Not an experiance I had in any of the other hotels in Vietmnam, but I won't be staying in this hotel again.
Review 110:The hotel I booked on Booking.com, was certainly great value. the location and room was supurb. The breakfast resturant with views over the Saigon River was a perfect start for the day.We stayed on the last two nights of our holiday. The Art Deco style is wonderful as the hotel was built in 1923.
Review 111:The Magestic was exactly what I had been expecting, wooden floors, charming attentive staff. We were upgraded to a pool view room, and felt swept up in the experience of staying in a classic old hotel. They are extending the hotel with a new tower next door, and I hope this will not spoil the atmosphere. Well made cocktails on superb roof bar.
Review 112:Outstanding Breakfast, restful pool, well-appointed bathroom and lovely bedroom. Courteous staff. The location is great for walking, dining and sightseeing.
Review 113:I was given a really old room upon arrival. The windows could not be closed tightly and I could hear all the noises from the traffic and the construction work outside of the hotel throughout the night. As a result, I had to ask for a change of room at 2 am! I was quite upset because they shouldn't have given me this room in the first place but staff was swift in effecting the change of room.
Review 114:The staff are very friendly and helpful. The bell boy is very responsive and responsible making sure he took down the taxi number for us in case of dispute.
Review 115:The price of drinks and food is almost robbery. We stayed in 5 star hotels either side of our stay at majestic and paid 30-50% less for drinks.
Review 116:Location
Review 117:Drinks are very expensive (5 times those on the street!), the pool is not suitable for young children because it is so deep throughout (i.e. there is no shallow end). One could also smell smoke for the open public areas.
Review 118:Friendly staff, excellent breakfast, very conformable room and bathroom. Great views of the river from the room and bars. Free Wifi.
Review 119:Too long for service on two occassions in the Sky bar , ended up leaving and going outside the hotel to eat
Review 120:position of hotel in relation to central Saigon . and the reception staff were excellent
Review 121:Bedside lamps had no switches, could only be controlled from master panel. Ground floor restaurant is very bad.
Review 122:Beautiful building, lovely antiques.
Review 123:Nothing to report here
Review 124:If you wish to stay in modern box that could be anywhere in the world this is not the hotel for you. If you want a hotel to remember, that ooze's old fashioned charm and elegance then stay at the Majestic. The band that play in the rooftop bar were also excellent.
Review 125:In this room we had a shower over bath which is not my preference. The room was a bit small, but we were spoilt with the suite last time.
Review 126:We always enjoy a drink on the roof top bar and always have the Seafood buffet on our first night, so that we can relax. Quite expensive by Vietnam standards, but very good. The room and bed was comfortable, although we had the cheapest room this time, and it was quite small, but ok. This bathroom had the shower over the bath which I do not like but it did have a balcony. The staff were friendly.
Review 127:I book a room with a city view online. To my disappointment, it was not city view, but a view of the building across the street and no view of the city at all in sight; not even a sliver of city view. When I asked the manager to change the room to something that resembles city view, because I was staying for more than 10 days. He proceeded to tell me that the room I received is city view and that this is their definition of city view (i.e., complete view of an abandoned building across the street). Make me feel like I am an idiot, although I traveled and have stayed in numerous world-class hotels. I would have rather the manager would just admit that this is false advertisement and offer to give me another room with some kind of a view.
Review 128:Room service people and everyone serving the morning breakfasts were wonderful!!!
Review 129:Very slow internet connection Terribly noisy due to the construction running next to the hotel as well as the street The room would deserve renovation
Review 130:The location in the heart of the city is nice
Review 131:There were no bad experiences but would have liked the corridors to the rooms air conditioned as they were warm and stuffy on the way to our room
Review 132:We loved the luxurious decor of the hotel and bedroom suite we were in as well as the efficiency and friendliness of the staff. The food in the Vietnamese Restaurant was the best we had in the whole time we were in Vietnam (8 days). The location of the hotel was also great - beside the river and next to a wide variety of shops. We wish we could have stayed longer and it would be our 1st choice of hotel next time we are in Saigon
Review 133:Wrong assumptions yet emphasis on their correctness. Example, didn't offer billing in Usd, it was okay for me, yet they claimed that other hotels in Vietnam are the same, hahaha, wrong assumption, try Caravelle.
Review 134:1) Very noisy early in the morning. Way too noisy to sleep well after 7am. 2) Bad, moldy smell in the room 3) Shower out of date. Very old fashioned and not comfortable. 4) Breakfast is mediocre: Plenty of choices but none really taste all that good. 5) All in all, just not modern enough to justify the price.
Review 135:The staff tries hard to please, and that is nice, but not quite enough to make up for the problems, and there are plenty to them. Breakfast is just okay, although the roof setting is pretty nice.
Review 136:We were looking to expand our experiences of staying in colonial hotels in the Far East. Having read previous reviews we were a bit concerned. Unnecessary as the service and overall experience was great!
