Reviews for Hotel Durant

Review 1:The bathroom was very small. The shower stall was tiny ... smaller than a phone booth. I called down to the front desk one morning and after three tries gave up. No one answered.

Review 2:Location was great. Décor was interesting. Loved that you could open the window for fresh air.

Review 3:Booked at short notice for business, the rate per night was $260 per night for a hotel that should be $120 per night maximum. I felt cheated but there was little I could do and it was on an expense account.

Review 4:Window only opens 4 inches so room was too warm. The fan helps but no A.C. at this hotel.

Review 5:Went to a concert at the Greek Theater. This hotel is great for walking to UC Berkeley.

Review 6:The bedsheets/linens not only have an unpleasant smell, i was bitten by some kind insects that gave me such a sting and horrible itch on the lower part of my left arm! Up till now, i could still see the pierced marks of that bitten area which still itches till now since I last checked out on Monday, 10/12/15! Considering this is not a cheap motel or inn, and to charge me $206 per night for such poor standard of accommodation, is a downright rip off! If they care about their business reputation at all, I expect them to have the decency to do something and compensate for my discomfort and restlessness during my two nights stay at this hotel.

Review 7:No gym, no pool, no spa, small rooms, poor water pressure and very small bathrooms, room layout was not great, TV was to the left of the bed so you can't watch comfortably while lying in bed.

Review 8:Very nice and knowledgeable staff, they have a wine and cheese hour every day from 5-6 that is free for guests, great location and the building is very pretty and rooms nicely appointed.

Review 9:I can't believe the amount of money I paid for this room...and then had to pay extra to park. Absolutely ridiculous. I travel a lot for work, first time I have had to pay extra to park my vehicle at the hotel I am renting a room. And not a little, the price was hefty. Not good! The main elevator was down my whole stay. Every one had to use a tiny service elevator so there was always a wait to get to my room. Then that broke down and I had to walk to the 6th floor. Again, not good! The staff just said, sorry, there's nothing we can do. Really!? Nothing? The amount of money for a place like this should not have these issues. The food was way over priced and the added fees with the room service made me decide to go elsewhere. The hotel is very noisy. You can hear others very easily. Lot of slamming doors and foot traffic. Also the rooms are very small, not much room to spread out. Overall this place is way over priced for what it offers. I would not recommend and will not be returning.

Review 10:The room had a nice view. My car battery died and one of the employees gave me a jump start. Awesome customer service (by that particular employee).

Review 11:Location was very convenient to campus and passable on trip to and from airport. Hated that was given room with only handheld shower nozzle without notice. Room too hot to sleep!

Review 12:Restaurant has terrible service. Been to Henry's on prior trip and service was even worse this time. Gave up calling front desk one night because no response.

Review 13:Old decors, hotel should be refurnished.

Review 14:Hotel Staff was friendly and receptive.Hotel has been kept neat and clean.Proximity of closeness to UCB was a great advantage.

Review 15:Small amenities were lacking; a washcloth, shower cap. Room was dark. Felt it was overpriced..

Review 16:The staff was extremely accommodating and very friendly. All guest services were prompt and courteous. AC was excellent.

Review 17:Elevators, rooms the size of bathrooms, pictures reflect a much better place than it is, self parking is first come (not in description) parking is terrible, the floor with the club room is only open 1 hour a day.

Review 18:Convenience

Review 19:Parking very limited. Most staff not helpful. One did not want to print our boarding pass. But another one said she would. Person that answered phone gave incorrect directions to the hotel.

Review 20:Near to Cal University

Review 21:Small, dark room overlooking wall and parking lot. Teeny tiny bathroom. Although rooms were quiet, the door for the room next door was so loud, it sounded like our door being opened every time.

Review 22:Very good location for visiting Berkeley campus. Comfortable memory foam type of bed.

Review 23:Historic quaint hotel. The 1960's theme, artifacts and and pictures were wonderfully nostalgic of a simpler time. Perfect location. I loved the restaurant and the nightly happy hours that came with a modest cost of an upgrade. The staff was amazing. I am truly looking forward to finding a reason to stay their again!

Review 24:Ok, ok. No space to put the car for valet parking. Broken loops on both bathrobes. Barding dog. Noisy radiator. Two tiny bars of soap to last for my entire 3-day stay.

Review 25:I already filled out this evaluation and sent it to you. Please look for it so I don't have to repeat my comments.

Review 26:They put us in a strange room; located separately from others room and just beside the elevator. Very noisy room; we can hear our step on the floor since it seems not a concrete, especially in the bath room area that they split the shower and closet. Even we can hear people step sound from above room. The ceiling is quite weird since there is a big beam just right on our bed. The room service charged us with two different price for the exactly sama ordered in the two consequtive days. And they charged pancake more expensive than a complete breakfast consist of egg bacon toast fries juice. However they gave me a refund when I complained during checked out The elevator sometime did not work

Review 27:The location is superb, the closest hotel from the campuss The taste of the food The free wifi The helpfull of frontdesk people The free water available in receptionist area The surrounding area that have a lot of resto and shops

Review 28:The location was not as convenient to Bart stations as advertised, the room was very small, and the street noise was heard in the room on the 4th floor

Review 29:The staff was excellent

Review 30:Parking was "sold out". Shower is old. Had a problem with TV and it took 3 calls to finally get someone to room.

Review 31:Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Gave us free breakfast due to TV problem. Bed was very comfortable. Location is great.

Review 32:No parking. I was lucky to find something on the street and only after 9 PM. Expensive room rate. Staff was minimally polite.

Review 33:Best Bed. Close to my conference since the conference site had no more rooms available.

Review 34:We had no control over the heat or air conditioning, and thus, were always cold. This is all centrally controlled. The room was very small.

Review 35:The staff was wonderful and the bed was comfortable. The location is superb and the view was great. .

Review 36:Double double room somewhat cramped.

Review 37:2 power cuts handled well with staff lighting stairs and 35% off the room for the night affected. Were there for son's graduation. The hotel put a lot of effort into creating a celebratory atmosphere for all the people staying there for the same reason as us.

Review 38:They forgot to email me my invoice, which I needed for a refund. Took about three emails and an international phone call before they responded. Smallish place. I guess this is a "boutique" hotel. Thank God for French words.

Review 39:The location, as I needed to be near UC-Berkeley

Review 40:Dog barking and whining late at night in next door room.

Review 41:Extremely helpful staff. Very close to college. Room size was good as have found other hotel rooms in this area can be quite small.

Review 42:broken shower knob that we didnt notice until the morning when we were in a hurry to shower & leave and couldn't shower!!! That is our only complaint.

Review 43:decor, people, comfort, location

Review 44:Room is minimal in size. Old desk and furnitures. The executive level is not worthing the extra money. Very limited hours to get access to the lounge. Not convenient for most of us.

Review 45:Location is great if you have business to do at Berkeley University. Many restaurants and stores around.

Review 46:They didn't clean my room, when I discovered it was not done at 7pm I was informed they had no staff that could clean at night and offered me towels. Later the same staff called and said she had checked the "do not disturb list" that I wasn't on it, so no she could offer me a free drink. I have never been more insulted by hotel staff.

Review 47:Location

Review 48:It was not really bad, but just room for improvement would be the parking. It is hard to get in and out if.

Review 49:The executive floor was very nice and far away from the street level to be fairly quiet

Review 50:- serving in the restaurant took some time - did not like the style of the rooms, but that is my personal taste - breakfast not included in price

Review 51:- location - has a restaurant and breakfast possibility - free wifi

Review 52:We were bait and switched, they showed us a beautiful room on booking.com for $213.69. We got a room I wouldn't pay $25 for. If they let me show pictures of this horrible room I would show you. Am currently attempting to be refunded for that horrible mess called a room.

Review 53:I liked nothing about this room, it was tiny didn't resemble the room we booked on booking.com

Review 54:The Durant is an older hotel and our shower didn't work great, but it wasn't enough of a problem to keep us from staying another time.

Review 55:If you want to stay in close proximity to the Berkeley campus, this is the place for you. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast at Henry's was wonderful!

Review 56:In room 116 (Berkeley) for three days, the electrical sockets on the desktop had lower than stated voltage making my laptop not able to bring up a screen display- when the laptop was later plugged into the wall socket, everything was fine. There is some problem with the sockets on the desktop that needs to be fixed as this problem almost cancelled the reason for the business trip.

Review 57:Convenient for access to the Berkeley campus and nearby restaurants

Review 58:no fan in bathroom, view of street trash isn't what I would expect of bay view selling point.

Review 59:enjoyed cafe breakfast very much, setting and service were good. Dinner was fun. Food in Hotel changes whole experience for the better. Gives life to the place.

Review 60:Only one night stand-- we had to flip a coin for who got the side of the bed with a reading lamp. Extremely cramped and dark. The window was behind the TV, making it difficult to open. It got very stuffy.

Review 61:Great location, we could walk to the game and to several shops and restaurants

Review 62:The hotel is old and dated. The decor dates back to the 70's. The bathroom was extremely tiny with no counter space.

Review 63:The hotel had great proximity to the university. Easy walking to shops and restaurants. It was clean and nice linens on bed and in bathroom.

Review 64:The room was a little dated and musty. The lobby was in restoration during our stay and the sitting areas were not useable.

Review 65:My son and I were visiting Berkeley and it is as close as any hotel could be. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 66:Room was rather old-fashioned (sink in the bedroom area vs. separate small room for shower/toilet) & too cramped for a queen-sized bed

Review 67:Ease of access, good staff, excellent location near UC campus and many restaurants, etc.

Review 68:The hotel amenities were good, but the rate they charged for location/services is more consistent with the famous Berkeley spa hotel to the East.

Review 69:College game-day atmosphere was outstanding, and the beach party out back was a real hit for pre-game fun. Henry's Bar remains a classic and well worth a return visit for alumni living out of the area.

Review 70:No real complaints, except price for room was higher than other places in area I had previously stayed at. Then again considering location, I accepted it.

Review 71:A very well run and clean facility. With a great location to Memorial Stadium and "Top Dog" stand.

Review 72:The hotel is old and the room is kind of small. The cable didn't have the channel to watch Berkeley home game.

Review 73:location, location and location. the room is clean and staffs are friendly.

Review 74:super small cramped rooms, paint peeling off the walls, room smelled, no trash can in the room, no ICE for ice bucket, VERY LOUD and thin walls. They tried to duplicate a dorm room feel but they missed the mark. I felt like i was sleeping in an old bedroom in my great grandma's house.

Review 75:Liked how close it was to UC Berkeley

Review 76:This was the first time to have stayed in a room on the 1st floor. No view. and the bathroom was way too small. Not up to the standards that I have come to expect from this hotel. Luckily it was for only one night instead of a week like I usually stay.

Review 77:The staff was super helpful, handy wifi, convenient location and clean.Have on numerous occasions stayed at the Hotel Durant.

Review 78:Parking spaces are extremely tight, was very hard to get our car in the right spot

Review 79:Great location, city center was at walking distance. Nice personnel.

Review 80:The view from our room that looked out to the front of the hotel was questionable (dirty frat house with garbage everywhere). Did self parking as directed by the doorman. While checking in we were told self parking was full (3 spaces open). They gave us a window pass anyway when they could tell I wasn't happy.

Review 81:The location is great to attend a concert at the greek theater, within walking distance. Close to a lot of restaurants. Room was nice & clean.

Review 82:The hot water in the shower would sometimes suddenly switch to cold

Review 83:Just everything was awesome! We had a lovely stay :) Thumbs up to the free coffee and tea in the room :)

Review 84:When it comes to receiving letters I wish those at the front desk were clearer as to whether it is possible particularly if the mail arrives after I leave. I am told it is possible but when I enquired after leaving a few days later, the reception seems to be unaware of this possibility. The outcome is I did not receive the mail though the sender confirmed mailing it. It caused some inconveniences and I am lucky that it did not become worse than that. Please do be clear of the policy on this and ensure that the reception staff knows as well.

Review 85:I like the comfort, cleanliness and quietness. I really appreciate that my need for a quiet location was looked into. The staff were in general helpful especially the person at the reception on the day of my arrival. i wish I remember his name as he went all out to be helpful!!!

Review 86:I had to think for a negative. An adapter for the iPhone dock would have been nice, but my computer worked just as well.

Review 87:The work desks in the rooms are BY FAR the best I've ever used in a hotel -- plenty of in-desk outlets, great lamp, excellent work chair, lots of desk space, place for pens, pads, books and the desk in my room was next to a window. In room snacks, which I never use, but its good to know that when working late there are supplies at hand. Robes in the room. It is well-located -- great food nearby and in the hotel restaurant, interesting books in the lobby, comfy chairs for reading/waiting, excellent music in the lobby (inspired me to walk to Rasputin's and get a some music that I always wanted, but hadn't picked up yet). I would have stayed longer if I had time.

Review 88:After booking a separate three nights straight through the hotel to add to my booking.com booking, I called to apply an online-advertised discount to my stay. There were no stipulations that would have prevented them from adding this discount, but after multiple phone calls and messages left on the account manager's voicemail, I didn't even receive a call back. Very disappointing. older building--also beware that the walls are thin, It can be loud...

Review 89:The price was a bit high. Parking price was ridiculous at 16$ per night. Restaurant "Henry" next door was not that great.

Review 90:The hotel was perfectly located as we were there to visit Berkeley University. The room was big enough, quiet, clean and had the necessary amenities. Even robes, air dryer, iron, safe and brewed coffee!!!! AC PLUS a fan made the room at the perfect temperature. Hotel staff was extremely helpful at all times.

Review 91:We were traveling with my elderly parents and had reservations forsix nights. We left after the first. The rooms were tiny, with poorlighting, lacking sufficient outlets for chargers, and had terriblemattresses. My parents had to ask the staff to get ice from thekitchen for their medications and it never arrived. (No ice orvending machines.) I've never written a negative review before, but this time it is deserved. The quirky college-themed décor is notworth the money.

Review 92:Great location near the campus; restaurant experience was positive.

Review 93:The room was fairly small and the bathroom was tiny.

Review 94:Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Location was outstanding for proximity to the UC campus and all surrounding activities.

Review 95:Parking was little tight.

Review 96:The staff was incredibly helpful and courteous.

Review 97:Severely overpriced; should cost approximately 30% less.

Review 98:Great location.

Review 99:Room too small for two adults

Review 101:Close to UCB, clean, comfortable bed

Review 102:Old furniture

Review 103:Closeness to university campus

Review 104:Nope

Review 105:Everything was great

Review 106:Room was too tight, could barely make it to the other side of the bed. Also a loud buzzing sound in the wall all night.

Review 107:location is perfect

Review 108:Naked pictures in the bathroom. Inappropriate.

Review 109:Nice location, amenities

Review 110:Rooms are too small and very old. Bathrooms very dated. Bed uncomfortable. Place smells bad.

Review 111:Great location

Review 112:Overcharged in room rate, almost $300.00 per night, is overpriced. Especially there is no complementary breakfast.

Review 113:Cleaniness

Review 114:Two lifts, one did not work the other broke down twice in two days

Review 115:The room was VERY small - not what I expected from a "luxury" hotel.

Review 116:The staff was very helpful and responsive to our requests.

Review 117:Overall staff is a bit disorganized
