Reviews for The Magic Carpet Lodge
Review 1:filthy and dirty, worn out. found hair in the bed, jelly bellys and chewed gum next to and under the beds. a wonder we havent been attacked by bedbugs. even the replacement room looked the same even it might have been a bit cleaner.
Review 2:the man behind the counter was friendly and no issue in getting a refund.
Review 3:The rooms were pretty loud, we could hear people talk from the other rooms. Luckily it was very quiet during the nights. You need a car to get downtown, or maybe a bike. But it is easy to access the hotel from the road.
Review 4:The staff was friendly, it was an old man working when we arrived and he was very polite and helpful. We had problems with our keycards, and with the wifi, but he fixed it all at once. We got upgraded to a room with queensize bed since the room we had booked was out.The room we got was big. We had a coffee maker and coffee available, you could also get free coffee and tea in the reception. Breakfast was nice, different cereals, oatmel, bread, fruits, muffins, coffee and tea.
Review 5:It wasn't all that spruced up on the outside, but inside was comfortable and clean. All the nice little amenities like free toothbrush if you forgot one, coffee maker in room, and lots of variety for the continental breakfast. Heater in room was quiet. Staff was really nice.
Review 6:The outside was very rundown. The rooms balcony was rusted and peeling. Sliding glass door did not lock properly. One day no maid was on duty, resulting in no service. There were poor selections for tv / movie channels. Also the blankets were thin and worn.
Review 7:The room was very clean and well stocked. Coffee and continental breakfast were pretty good..
Review 8:Seedy part of town, I was unfamiliar with Seaside. Dirty, old building. Sheets nasty, curtains stained, and when I woke up I had two bug bites which I'm sure were from bedbugs. WAY too costly for cheap room, no clock, no microwave, no refrig.
Review 9:Close to a Target
Review 10:Check out lady was outside of the office on her phone, smoking a cigarette. She told me to just leave the key card on the front desk because she was on her break. She was nice enough though to get up and go inside when I told her that I would like a receipt.
Review 11:Check in staff (Ben) was great, very helpful. Nice large and clean room. Many places to eat, stores and shopping near by.
Review 12:-Breakfast could have been better. -No microwave or mini fridge in the rooms.
Review 13:-Friendly staff -Clean room -Comfortable bed -Central location Ideal for a short trip especially if you will be out exploring the city and just need somewhere to crash.
Review 14:Just back in U.K. after a three week holiday in California. This was definitely the worst place we stayed in. Filthy corridors, stairwells, etc. What a dump!
Review 15:Absolutely nothing
Review 16:Outside was a little dirty but nothing I couldn't deal with for 1-2 days. No A/C but it didn't effect my comfort
Review 17:Close to everything, went to tour the University
Review 18:Not a great selection of restaurants in area. The continental breakfast was not very good. You'd do better to go to Taco Bell across street for breakfast burrito.
Review 19:Location is good. Staff was friendly and helpful. Don't expect luxury, but room was clean. Would probably stay again.
Review 20:The bed was lumpy, lights on either side of bed did not work. breakfast room too small accommodates 8 patrons at a time. It was full took our food to our room. Not enough choices in selection of food.
Review 21:The room was nice and clean. The motel had easy access to shopping and places to eat.
Review 22:Very dated & carpets were filthy but would still reccomend for the price for an overnight stop
Review 23:Handy for an overnight stop while travelling Pacific coast
Review 24:Furnishings were very scratched and worn. Rooms could stand some updating. Continental breakfast was just ok, but the room it was in was obviously another motel room and seating was inadequate for number of guests. Wi-Fi was like using dial up service---very slow.
Review 25:The location suited our purposes. Bedding was comfortable and oddly enough despite the worn and outdated appearance of the motel, the towels were nice and soft!
Review 26:Nothing bad was experienced, but a microwave and refrigerator would have been appreciated.
Review 27:Parking included was a plus, and so was the proximity to Costco, and the price was very reasonable.
Review 28:This place is a dump. I didn't stay more than ten minutes and checked right out. The man at the counter refunded my money, I think this happens a lot. I wouldn't even sit down in this place, it's so dirty. It is also in a very seedy neighborhood. They had a AAA diamond award on the lobby wall. They must have reviewed this joint over the phone, couldn't possibly have been there and given this place any kind of recommendation. Avoid at all costs.
Review 29:Nothing.
Review 30:The room’s electricity was controlled by motion sensors so while we were asleep, the power would constantly disconnect. As a result, my husband woke up in the middle of the night due to lack of oxygen as his CPAP machine would stop working. There was also no air conditioning in the room. We had to open the sliding doors to the balconies for fresh air and were woken up from the sounds of ambulance sirens.
Review 31:It is old and needs a lot of repair. Trash been is not hidden and not tidy. Breakfast room so small and the free breakfast meal no eggs or sausage.
Review 32:Close to the city and everything is accessible.
Review 33:Small elevator, low toilet, no central air condition, dust under the bed and on the blades of the fan brought on an asthma attack. Wall near the table had a long streak on it, brown spot near the toliet paper holder, above the head board., & on the curtain. No light bulb in one lamp. No refr. and /or microwave
Review 34:Location
Review 35:Wi-Fi could be stronger.....Signal doesn't reach farthest rooms.
Review 36:Friendly, accomodating, clean, ample TV channels & reasonably priced for the area.
Review 37:Continental breakfast was alright. But could've had a better variety of juices and ceral. Maybe even perhaps boiled eggs.
Review 38:Even though I stayed at your lodge 1 night, from the time I checked in, the front desk clerk was very friendly and invitibg. He was very knowledgeable on the area. The room was clean, carpets could probably need a little cleaning, but still nice.
Review 39:Room air unit not working. Floor fan to be used in place. Outlet by bed not working. Half of toaster in breakfast room did not work.
Review 40:The staff was very friendly. Location is close to Monterey. great water pressure for shower.
Review 41:tub clogged slow drainage, water smelled weird, strange cleaning supply smell, breakfast was not very good.
Review 42:The bed, close to pacific grove, easy to get to, good parking, cheap
Review 43:TV had lot of static , Door key card not working properly, outdated facilities. Carpet under bed very dusty. Very poor continental breakfast. Noisy! Not worth $118.00+ tax even on a holiday.
Review 44:Just a few things in the room needed to be updated, like the handrail in the shower..
Review 45:I was born and raised in Carmel, so I was a little worried about the location but it's really nice now...
Review 46:Only small towels, refrigerators in 1 of the 3 rooms, just didn't seam very clean inside room & outside room. Cars in & out of parking lot all night
Review 47:Bed was good
Review 48:It was extremely hot in my room, I understood the didn't have AC but I had to sleep with the sliding glass door open. The room was about 83 degrees unless the door was open. I defiantly won't be staying there again considering how much it was and how low quality everything was.
Review 49:I loved that it was quiet, and I was never disturbed by other guests during my stay. And for the most part everything was clean.
Review 50:Run down old hotel, stuffy rooms with no air conditioning, lights turn off automatically in room (with sensor far from beds) so you can't keep lights on, breakfast consists of stale/sugary donuts and no coffee available . . . would not recommend this place, especially if you have kids.
Review 51:The door had posted room rates a lot less then we paid. Clearly the prices were raised very high just because it' was move in weekend at the nearby college!
Review 52:The pool was a very comfortable temperature, the view from the third floor was very nice, too!
Review 53:Old, needed minor plumbing /renovation, no hot breakfast
Review 54:Room size, comfortable beds, good ventilation, quiet, good value, close to Costco, super market, quaint restraunts.
Review 55:WiFi was terrible, and the bed's were not comfortable. Also, there was NOT a breakfast but merely coffee.
Review 56:Great location, easy to get in and out of downtown Monterey and surrounding areas.
Review 57:The girl on the desk moaned and puffed a few times. Was sitting in her car, and didn't want to go in to charge the card. Also flippant when I asked what time I can get coffee. She said "when I open the door"
Review 58:Rooms were spacious and clean. Beds comfortable, free wifi, pool nice.more mature staff were very helpful.
Review 59:1. Carpeting was worn, stained and felt grimy. 2. WiFi was inconsistent and slow, similar to dial-up quality. 3.Drapes were ripped and could not be opened and closed. Screen on patio door fell off when I tried to open it. 4. TV worked sporadically, often going fuzzy. 5. The room and furnishings looked old and scratched. 6. Breakfast was mediocre at best and didn't start until 7:30. 7. Some of the electrical outlets did not work. 8. The room had an oscillating floor fan rather than air conditioning. 9. The hotel was grossly overpriced for the quality.
Review 60:Staff were friendly and the location was quiet.
Review 61:Filthy room. Smelled like cigarettes in the room when we asked for non smoking room. Air conditioner was broken. The room was hot. One lamp out of four was working. I asked for more towels and the gentlemen indeed brought me towels. However, there was a huge spider.
Review 62:The elevator broke unfortunately, and my bad back hurt the whole time. I didn't realize until I got home that it was probably because the mattress wasn't firm enough for my bad back.
Review 63:Clean room, clean pool, friendly, helpful staff, quiet area, close to Carmel and Monterey, but much more affordable.
Review 64:The place is out dated and the grounds were not kept up. Outside trash was piled up at trash can and on the ground. The continental breakfast was not appealing. The facility was depressing.
Review 65:Friendly staff and good coffee. The room was at least clean.
Review 66:Carpet very old and dirty, curtains inoperative, screen torn, door to patio very difficult to open. Overall, room not clean and need updating, very old. Not as appeared on website.
Review 67:Staff willing to provide prompt refund
Review 68:There was an old bathing suit left in the shower from a previous guest. How well does the staff actually clean each room?!
Review 69:The breakfast was great. 7-10am works with any schedule. Also on the plus side, it's close driving distance to the Monterey Aquarium and The Row.
Review 70:Common areas seem run-down and breakfast wasn't very good. Breakfast room is small and unpleasant.
Review 71:The room itself was spacious and had everything we needed. Seemed much cleaner than the common areas of the inn.
Review 72:The sliding door on the balcony was broken off the hinge to the point that it didn't close all the way. It was unsafe. We only stayed because we has drove for hours and we needed to get our children dinner and to sleep. We cancelled our 2nd night and was refunded our money. We will not ever return to this hotel.
Review 73:Trash from a previous occupant had been left in our room. The breakfast room was too small and we had to take our food to the lobby to eat it.
Review 74:The man who checked us in was friendly and helpful. He sorted out problems with the wifi and recommended an excellent local restaurant.
Review 75:At 2:00 AM, I was bitten by a spider. I got up and killed it and saved it to show you if you would like proof. My hand hurt from the bite for three days. Please refund 1/2 of my room fee for the pain, poor sleep and the bad memory of teh event.
Review 76:Did not get upstairs as requested. Room was dirty, coffepot was dirty and kinda felt they just did a pass and didnt really clean anything also ac dod not work.
Review 77:I like the fact that it waa affordable in the area and at last minute basecly.
Review 78:The bed stunk. The a/c didn't work. The outlet by phone didn't work. The ice bucket has gross water left inside of it. The breakfast room was thrashed and unsupervised we didn't eat.
Review 79:Breakfast was haphazard and boring. Room key required knowing the "trick" to make it work.
Review 80:Location was close to my meeting in Carmel and the price was right.
Review 81:While I may be old and out of shape, this place had me beat in spades. Paid top dollar for a Saturday night. Would have rather slept in my car.
Review 82:Close to Monterey.
Review 83:The property is not maintained. The water that came from the faucets had a rusty brown color. The room had bad smell. We left the window open the whole time we stayed there but still the smell there.
Review 84:Bed was not very comfy; when one of us moved the other was bounced all over. Free standing fan, while good for air movement, was very noisy.
Review 85:Price was good for mid week; relatively close to Monterey. Staff was accommodating, allowed us to change our room from dark 1st floor to brighter 2nd floor. Had elevator.
Review 86:the bed and pillows were comfortable. It was quiet and clean. The typical oatmeal cereal muffins and bananas for breakfast was all we needed. We did have trouble with unlocking the door then we figured out you have to pull it toward you while you enter the card and turn the handle.
Review 87:Nothing really but the bathroom sink dripped...pillows were too full/round... A little flatter or at least one.... Next time I will bring my pillow from home
Review 88:Breakfast and coffee ind close to the freeway
Review 89:The property is extremely run down and kind of gross. The room was reasonably clean, though refrigerator and curtains were broken, bathroom grout is stained, no A/C, etc. But the exterior is terrible--peeling paint, completely rusted-out metal on railings, ice machine looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Also, the way the buildings are set up seems like a potential safety/crime hazard--groups of rooms on the floor are walled off in a way that allows anyone to get in to the "hall" but conceals the room doors from the outside (so not like a hotel with a secure inside hallway but also not like a regular motel with room doors clearly visible. The neighborhood seems a little sketchy (lengthy screaming domestic dispute outside our window one night). I almost cancelled our reservation when we arrived but didn't want to pay the penalty or last-minute price to go elsewhere. We stayed, but we spent as little time there as possible and I was never really comfortable being there.
Review 90:It was pretty cheap.
Review 91:The room keys didn't work and had to be replaced three times, the TV didn't want to turn on - the man who ran the front desk apparently had a secret to turning them on. A fight between 4 adults that had a room down the hall broke out around 2 am, it took the hotel employees over 20 minutes to respond and then did nothing about it! The fight broke out again around 3 am but quickly resolved itself before hotel employees could do anything. In the morning they claimed it was someone who has followed a guest back from a bar. It was obviously a fight between boyfriend/girlfriend who had been staying at the hotel. No police where ever called.
Review 92:90 dollar room is hard to beat - the pool was warm and nice after a day on the beach.
Review 93:The bed was very uncomfortable and some sort of something ran 24/7 making a noise that made it difficult to sleep.
Review 94:It's an old motel that was obviously a very nice motel at one time. I love that kind of deal - if only they had updated the beds.
Review 95:Very basic aged motel. Basic breakfast. When prices are high due to busy holiday weekends, you don't get value for the money. When prices are normal, probably more corresponding to property.
Review 96:Monterey and Carmel are in short driving distance.
Review 97:The Coffee pot in my room was used wrong and there was a mildewed packet of coffee where the water goes. I called for another packet of coffee and a new coffee maker that I thought would be sent right up and was not. I went down stairs to get coffee in the Breakfast room and found that the coffee was in the Lobby. I was not happy, I have at least two cups of coffee to start my day. For the amount of money I spent on my room I felt that the staff was overworked and at the point of not caring about their guests or their pleasure. I was torn on whether to leave a tip, as my husband and I always did. However, in the end it did not work out that I had cash to leave one so none was left.
Review 98:The parking
Review 99:The location was good. A nearby bus stop enables transit to the Aquarium, although exact change is needed. The front desk manager, Ben, was extremely helpful and enthusiastic. A good number of ethnic restaurants nearby ensured that we wouldn't go hungry. Wifi was good in our room. Fruit, bagels, cream cheese, cereal, and coffee for breakfast.
Review 100:The tub didn't drain well and the bed was not very sturdy or comfortable, but then, most motel beds aren't.
Review 101:The staff was unconventional but very helpful. And even though the room is dated and basic, it seemed clean and functional. The location/price made it a functional fit for our trip.
Review 102:There were only 3 pillows. The wifi was so unreliable, we had to go to Starbucks to get on the internet. The tv was a tube, and it would emit a loud whistle for 20 minutes every time you turned it on.
Review 103:The bed was comfy, the soaps were nice, and when we found out the coffee machine didn't work, they replaced it immediately. They even opened up the breakfast room for us when we were the only ones staying there.
Review 104:First time I see the bed with sheet above the blanket ! Fair breakfast (tea and coffee in the lobby so had to take them later)
Review 105:Heated pool (only until 8:00pm) Helpful staff (one clearly a trainee)
Review 106:Door stuck and had extreme difficulty getting in and out of room. The heater does not work, so we were given a space heater. Very dusty with cob webs and spiders in the room. Questionable stains on the curtains.
Review 107:Clean sheets and clean bathroom
Review 108:The only breakfast was cereal and bread. The building looked like it was falling apart. Air conditioning didn't work.
Review 109:Good for the price, the price was very cheap. No problem with the guy at the check-in counter. Good for a 1 night stay.
Review 110:The BMW dealership next door decided to use a gas powered blower to blow their lot off at 7 am and it lasted for a good hour. Very noisy area. Great weather, but had to keep windows and sliding door close to try and muffle the noise. Did not have a good night sleep. Would not recommend this hotel if your wanting a quiet night sleep.
Review 111:Friendly staff, clean room, semi comfortable bed. Lots of restaurant choices near by.
Review 112:The bed had a blanket instead of a sheet to cover your body. This was true with both beds. When we inquired, we were told this is the owners policy regarding bedding
Review 113:Office was closed in the later evening and through the night. The man next door played very loud music and TV all day and night. When I talked with the office I learned he had lived there for a year and they too had noticed his loud music and TV but had not talked with him about it. Given the office was closed in the evening and at night I was not able to get help to resolve the situation so I could sleep. I did call the office at 5:42 am when he turned the music up very loud and they did contact him and he turned it down.
Review 114:Staff was friendly and very helpful. The cost was good as well as the location. The room was comfortable and clean. It came with needed amenities like light blocking curtains since a lighted parking lot was next door. I was happy to find wifi in the rooms since all reviews said that it was only in the lobby.
Review 115:Property is horribly outdated and run down for what I paid everything is old and dirty needs major makeover
Review 116:Breakfast was decent staff very friendly and helpful
Review 117:Spider in the shower, spider webs in the corners of the ceilings, mold/water damage on the wall, old carpet seemed dirty, the last person who used the room's towel was still on the floor.... gross.
Review 118:Comfortable bed, good pillows.
Review 119:If you look past the tired outdoor carpets and somewhat rusted door handle the interior of the room exceeded our expectations
Review 120:Spacious room Ironing board Hairdryer Coffee machine Heated pool. Friendly front house staff
Review 121:There were stains everywhere! Brown stains on the sheets brown stains on the towles. Thank god i brought my own sheets and towles because this place was gross
Review 122:Close to aquarium
Review 123:That I had to leave early and missed breakfast and that this place is under rated. It deserves better than a 6.3.
Review 124:The Magic Carpet is clean, convent, comfortable, friendly staff and had a good location for my needs. The price was right and I would and plan on staying again. I was actually going to call the management just to let them know how happy I was with their motel.
Review 125:the breakfast was complementary but really not any healthy items to choose from ;0(
Review 126:Being 10 minutes away from the Monterey Bay Aquarium was very convenient.
Review 127:old garbage under sink and in corridors. upon arrival hard to find out where Fremont Boulevard of Monterey is ended and Seaside Fremont Boulevard starts. unsafe elevator.
Review 128:on hwy with plenty parking and restaurants near by. reasonable breakfast.
Review 129:Cleanliness - found hairs etc on sheets overall of outside fair The breakfast was poor Did not have any tea in room just coffee
Review 130:The location - the bathroom and towels were clean
Review 131:Breakfast. Rotten - and i mean really rotten, as in a fungus pelt, fruit. Milk was sour, there were only 3 tables for the whole Inn ( 12 rooms per floor, times 3?) So we stood in line and when i wanted to grab an apple, my fingers went trough and i got a cloud of fruit flies. It was BAD. Person in charge was aware of this, but only apologized and made excuses after I mentioned this. No discount though, just "yeah, what can i do" A bad ending to a nice stay.
Review 132:Very clean rooms, no noises, great beds and pillows. Nice little coffee corner in the rooms! Ironing board in the room, a nice bonus
Review 133:The hotel in general including the room were old. The tub's floor in the bathroom was broken. The TV Was of poor quality and didn't work properly. The bed was uncomfortable.
Review 134:Nice hospitality, good continental breakfast which was served between 7:30 to 10:00 and included all you would expect: cereal, bread, bagels, cookies and pastries, different kind of jams, bananas, clementine, apples, orange juice, milk, coffee. We were upgraded to a king sized bed room which was big. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool. There are lots of parking space.
Review 135:I would have liked to have a small refrigerator in the room and a microwave would have been nice, also.
Review 136:Everything was fine. Had a restful stay; had requested a ground floor room and was given one in a close to parking, office, ice machine and breakfast room. The room was facing the swimming pool and the reflection from the water was very soothing. The little breakfast was quite good.
Review 137:Breakfast rather poor and not replenished often.
Review 138:Very spacious and comfortable room. Convenient location for Monterey and good restaurants nearby.Value for money
