Reviews for Castle Marne Bed & Breakfast

Review 1:The location was great for walking to many of the sites in Denver. Botanic Gardens, State Capitol, fine dining etc... The staff was extremely accommodating and were quick to give great recommendations for places to visit, things to do and places to eat.

Review 2:Loved everything about this B&B! From the moment we arrived to the time we left, we were treated with such hospitality! Louie was there to get us settled in and gave us a history of the castle. I stayed there with my parents in the Tower Room...and it was very comfortable. The breakfast was amazing and we had an opportunity to enjoy tea and homemade cookies in the evenings. The location is perfect with several great restaurants within walking distance. My parents really enjoyed staying in this unique place in Denver!

Review 3:Staff, a part from the owner, was not very friendly

Review 4:The charm of the house & of the neighborhood, the warm welcome of the owner. Appreciated attentions such as 5 PM tea & cookies

Review 5:Charming host and hostess. Beautiful, elegant home. Special touches like afternoon tea and treats. Warm cookies were waiting for us after our evening outing at 8:00. Loved it!

Review 6:Breakfast - no choice. Muffins were good but some plain toast or cereal would have been preferred to a cheesy burrito.

Review 7:Good location, close to city park, 20 min walk to downtown, welcoming and friendly staff, leaving gift was a very nice gesture.

Review 8:From the greeting at the door to dinner recommendations to a peaceful sleep and through a remarkable breakfast, everyone at--and everything about--Castle Marne exceeded our expectations. Thank you.

Review 9:No A/C - when it is hot, an overhead fan is all you've got; proximity to sketchy area (Colfax).

Review 10:Pros: quaint well-cared for B&B; interesting guests; easy parking; good breakfast; evening tea & cookies (!!!); friendly proprietors; good staff (excepting the unkempt afternoon housekeeper); reasonable price.

Review 11:Charming, gracious and conveniently located B & B in Denver. The owners are helpful and friendly and the breakfasts are spectacular. All in all I had a delightful stay and would recommend it to all who love the ambiance of a beautiful old historical home.

Review 12:Nothing.

Review 13:Staying in Marne is the most wonderful experience in Denver. Everything is so perfect in a Victorian/ old fashioned way. Eating breakfast while talking to the fellow traverllers - haven't done that for ages. And the host couple - nicest people, elegant. Strongly recommend to everyone.

Review 14:My stay in Castle Marne was perfect. The rooms were cozy , charming and big. The welcome was warm. Jim , Diane, Louie and Melissa will make you feel at home and tell you all there is to tell about the house and Denver. The breakfast was delicious and I'm bummed that I wasn't able to have dinner with them because I heard from the other guests how amazing it was. If I ever find myself in Denver again this is the place I will stay at.

Review 15:Our room (Melissa) was very small but since we didn't spend a lot of time there it was OK, I would request a different room next time. Also had trouble connecting to WiFi, but @ the time it wasn't important.

Review 16:Location, cleanliness, staff were awesome. Jim's knowledge of the history of the Denver area and the Castle Marne and his way of sharing it was wonderful. We will go back!!

Review 17:The room and balcony were almost the same size.. and the bed wasn't the most comfortable.

Review 18:Breakfast was amazing, don't forget to eat the breakfast. Our room had a hot tub that was irresistible.

Review 19:The bed could have been a tad more comfortable but it wasn't enough of a problem to prevent sleep. The hair drier was faulty and was replaced as soon as it was mentioned. They really do care about their guests.

Review 20:The furnishings in the beautifully restored house and the hospitality of the inn keepers create an impression of being privileged guests rather than just another paying customer. Breakfast with fellow travellers at the long table; afternoon tea and cakes; drinks with cookies early evening - superb. We chose a room with a hot tub on the balcony and lying in it whilst the snow gently fell was magical.

Review 21:Small details like a leaky shower faucet and an unrecognised beeping noise that woke me up around 6am were a small annoyance, but everything else was so wonderful, we simply didn't mind. And the staff was very attentive and helpful.

Review 22:The staff, the atmosphere, the location... Simply the best we have ever had!

Review 23:Great, knowledgeable staff Wonderful historical information Comfy surroundings Beautiful, historic building Very clean Delightful, excellent meals Lovely high tea

Review 24:Our room on the third floor was beautiful, just a little too warm.

Review 25:We were made to feel at home, as though we were family. And when we arrived home, there was a hand-written thank you card in the mailbox! No one writes letters anymore - and this was not just a line or two, but a personalized thank you note. We looking forward to staying here again. The neighborhood was absolutely charming too!

Review 26:My partner and I booked our room to celebrate our 1 year anniversary together. We booked the Raymond room because it had a private jacuzzi on the balcony. We enjoyed the jacuzzi, our quaint little room, the breakfast, and the friendly staff!

Review 27:Nothing really.

Review 28:Jim (I think the owner's name was Jim), lovely guy. My wife and I spent a night here on the way from Denver international to Estes park in the Rockies, great place and lovely people, I would recommend and stay here again, from where this is situated you could visit most places in Denver on foot.

Review 29:Our reasonably-priced room (Lang) was small and had too much furniture, no room to move or open luggage. (Other much more expensive rooms were much larger.) High bed required a 2-step-stool to climb in, but there was only a stool for one side of the bed, so nights were tricky. Clogged sink was fixed immediately when I reported it, but staff should have noticed when cleaning.

Review 30:Lovingly restored historic mansion, with photos of the original rooms displayed. Family owned and operated; very friendly and professional team. Very attentive to guests' food needs; beautifully served formal hot breakfast in the dining room. Excellent omelets. Close to 17th Ave. restaurants, but long walk from downtown. Easy parking. Nice alternative to city hotels.

Review 31:I thought it was closer to the downtown area than it was. However the neighborhood lets you feel like a local. Denver has a very alive community. Runners and bike riders late into the evening.

Review 32:Amazing B&B, full of character and beauty. Take time to look at ll the detailing in the wood and stained glass. Very nice staff. Breakfast was good, the muffins left me wanting the recipe.

Review 33:Beautifully maintained historic property. Charming gardens. Gracious hosts and dedicated staff. Delicious breakfast with fresh, seasonal ingredients served in the elegant but definitely not-stuffy formal dining room. Quiet location for strolling late 1800's neighborhood or just settling into the porch swing to imagine how life used to be. Off-street parking and city bus transportation on nearby Colfax Ave. make it easy to explore other Denver points of interest..

Review 34:It was an amazing, enjoyable and enriching experience. A hotel fully decorated with the Victorian style, present in all its facilities, creating an environment where the history is breathable. Invites to look the great details put devotedly by the owners, who are, personally responsible to serve their guests. The grace, kindness and theatricality of each of the hosts, enriches and potentiate the environment. To me it was a wonderful trip in a time machine. You cannot go to Denver without staying at least one night in this great hotel. And ask to the owner for the history of the castle, the importance of it for the development of Denver and the surrounding legends.

Review 35:Nothing

Review 36:Historic building with welcoming owners. Lovely and "different" homemade breakfast served at long table shared with other guests. Great location close to the botanical gardens and downtown .

Review 37:Too many police and ambulance sirens throughout our stay.

Review 38:Oustanding staff and attention to detail. Gorgeous and historic property with easy walking access to downtown.

Review 39:They could use some refreshing of things in the rooms and do an upgrade on the bedding and towels

Review 40:No bears and dolls all over the room. The history they give you is nice. Close to things and easy to get to from downtown or the airport.

Review 41:Cramped bathroom but understandable.

Review 42:The elegant bed and appointments in the Tower Room. The charming hosts, and old Denver interesting history. The breakfast was delicious. Afternoon tea was a nice touch. Need more variety.

Review 43:Staff (including some family members) not completely on top of paperwork, charges, etc. Had to be patient and help them along.

Review 44:Location, historic renovation, comfort of rooms

Review 45:Family business with 3 Generations all helping and assisting guest! Great place to stay! Even my 17 yr old loved it!

Review 46:My husband missed having a TV, but I didn't.

Review 47:Hospitality, breakfast, charm, food.

Review 48:Loved the building and how the owners took the time to explain the history. The breakfast was very good as well.

Review 49:Wonderfully decorated old stone house! Very friendly staff! Delicious breakfast! Nice rooms, some even with their own outdoor jacuzzi!

Review 50:Very charming, lovely front room, very friendly staff, good value.

Review 51:Having to leave.

Review 52:The history and knowledge of the city by the owners.

Review 53:I had never stayed at a B&B.. for this to be my first time, it was a great experience.

Review 54:I had to leave and go home :(

Review 55:Everything!

Review 56:None

Review 57:It was a beautiful place and like stepping back in time

Review 58:The experience of a house of that age and the history behind it. The staff was excellent in discussing all matters points of interet.

Review 59:We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the staff/owners stopping by and talking with us and making recommendations for the last day of our trip.

Review 60:Raymond room is tiny No choice at breakfast Hot tub hadn't been cleaned Shower could do with being replaced

Review 61:Great location Good wifi

Review 62:This is not a property for people that have any handicap. No elevator and 2 floor of steps.

Review 63:Most of everything

Review 64:Accommodation was clean. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was delicious. Good story telling at breakfast. I enjoyed staying there.

Review 65:Gentleman sitting at computer front desk not very friendly. No AC

Review 66:Staff and hot tub

Review 67:NOTHING

Review 68:I liked the tea out in the afternoon with the shortbread. I loved the breakfast in the formal dining room.

Review 69:Great bed Excellant breakfast Free parking Friendly environment

Review 70:They had given our room to another tenant. It was disappointing but they competed the room. Room was smaller.

Review 71:Staff was very accommodating

Review 72:We had to leave....we'll be back!

Review 73:Personal attention...great breakfast...love the owners

Review 74:Atmosphere, comfort and cleanliness

Review 75:Courteous Staff Good Food

Review 76:Nothing's mention

Review 77:Louis, Brian and Melissa are very welcoming hosts. Centrally situated B&B.

Review 78:Raymond room had a great balcony and hot tub but the room was very small.

Review 79:Hot tub, lovely building and welcoming staff.

Review 80:Breakfast Staff was very kind and welcoming Facilities were nice

Review 81:What a nice place to stay. Great restaurants within walking distance.

Review 82:Really fantastic B&B, definitely worth a visit!

Review 83:the owner louie...had b.o. the bathroom in the hall is inconvenient. the front desk blocks the stairs. the portions at bfast are small.

Review 84:First time at a B and B. We loved it! Very charming, from the late night home-made cookies to the excellent breakfast! Comfortable room and beautiful property. The owners were very nice and treat every guest as if they are the most important ones there!

Review 85:In house computer needs upgrade, too slow to the point of being non-functional. Ice machine out of order.

Review 86:A big thank you to the Peiker family for saving a piece of Denver's history, and for hosting their guests the way they do. The cooking is delicious. Bakery aromas permeate the house at breakfast and dinner time. Enjoyed learning the castle's history. Most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.

Review 87:Beautiful historic Inn, convenient to downtown. Inn keepers warm and lovely people, very knowledgeable of all that Denver and surrounding areas have to offer. I would highly recommend this B & B.

Review 88:The ghost in my room that kept on turning on the heating in the middle of the night. That ghost must have been a person once, that died of cold.

Review 89:The breakfast, the room, the people, the beautiful house with creaky floor boards, the super fast wifi, the interior design, the cookies and tea in the evening. I didn't have time to work on the puzzle. I will be back!

Review 90:I wish they would offer proteins at breakfast. And the older innkeeper, Jim, is a lovely man, but prone to cornering you with very looooong stories.

Review 91:The ambience was exceptional, the rooms beautiful and extremely peaceful. The innkeepers were kind and caring and I did not want to leave. The castle is very well maintained and is a treasure trove of fascinating things to look at. The location is great, within walking distance to some fabulous restaurants, The Tattered Cover bookstore, and Voodoo Donuts! I loved wandering the neighborhood and looking at the Victorian houses.

Review 92:We still feel it was worth it to have the smaller room/bed with a big patio/jacuzzi versus the bigger room and no jacuzzi (price between the two options was the same). However, the Raymond room WAS very very small. You couldn't spend much time in that room even if you wanted to. Trying to move around each other was hard and there wasn't much room to put your toiletries let alone your suitcase.

Review 93:The location was perfect. We were in a quiet, mature neighbourhood but still within walking distance to downtown, the zoo, museum, and good restaurants. The mansion itself was beautiful and had so much history to share. We also loved how knowledgeable the owners were of the building's history and past owners. The breakfast, afternoon tea, and late night cookies were fantastic. We felt very welcome and at home during our stay.

Review 94:Maybe bicycles could be offered for rent (but the city bike rack is close by).

Review 95:Most exciting b&b you could imagine - historical (1870?) house. Great family running it. Home cooking in the morning. Clean. Original bits of decor, all very tastefully done up. Great location in quiet street.

Review 96:This B&B is in a great location, close to restaurants (many within walking distance), grocery store, the freeway, Denver park and the museums. The innkeepers are very friendly and accommodating. They will definetly help you in creating an even better vacation. Not to mention, the breakfasts are very tasty! Would stay here again for sure he next time were in Denver.

Review 97:General look and feel were great. Service was excellent. So much more than just a room for the night. Historical background of the building, interesting architecture, well-appointed and restored interiors, exhibits relating to building's history. Good location

Review 98:Our bed was a little too soft.

Review 99:Enjoyed our stay, staff was friendly and Jim was very knowledgeable on Denver's history. Dining was superb, very homey feeling!

Review 100:The room was very small.

Review 101:What a lovely Victorian inn! The innkeeper welcomed us with grace, andthe concierge helped us find a wonderful restaurant within walkingdistance. We enjoyed the cozy sitting room with afternoon tea andpastries, followed later by evening tea and homemade cookies. We stayedin the Lang Room with its high queen bed--not a large room but nicelyappointed and cozy. A sumptuous hot breakfast waited for us in thedining room both mornings. Although we were visiting Denver in themiddle of their -4 degree cold spell, we were always warm andcomfortable. Oh, I should mention, if you're hoping to watch tvwhile vacationing, this is not the place for you. But if you want torelax and experience old-world charm, you've found the right place!

Review 102:A Bed & Breakfast in an old charming house with beautiful and quietrooms, hosted by very kind people. The exact opposite of theinternational anonymous hotel that you can find exactly the same in mosttowns around the world.

Review 103:Great afternoon tea and breakfast. Nice spacious room with whirlpool jetted tub. We were given a generous ipgrade to help us celebrate our anniversary.

Review 104:The Jacuzzi in the Mason room took up too much space and was weird alongwith the antiques and quaint décor.

Review 105:Melissa is a superb host and breakfast was wonderful-- greatsouthwestern quiche and fruit in good company.

Review 106:The only thing that could have been handled better was the fact that wereserved the Raymond Room and we didn't get the Raymond Room.Instead of just telling us this from the get go, we were brought up to adifferent room, and I had to ask "is this the Raymond Room?"(I knew it wasn't), and I was told "no it is not but weupgraded you to a different room" no further explanation was givenuntil I asked why? I was told the upgraded room had a larger bathroombut my wife and I noticed the balcony and hot tub area were muchsmaller. We reserved the Raymond Room because of the large balcony andhot tub area. Instead of giving us a room with a comparable hot tub areawe were given a room with a much smaller hot tub area. We didn'twant the room so we were given another room with a comparable hot tubarea and it was great. Had we been told there was problem with ouroriginal room and it was already taken and had we been given a couplechoices as to what room we would rather stay in we would have had a muchbetter first impression.

Review 107:Really inviting exterior with castle like appearance. Nice firstimpression when you come in and take a short tour. Enjoyed the historyand the fact the owners kept the history a big part of the inn.Breakfast with the other guests was nice and the food itself was verygood and well presented. Nice touch having the owner speak to us duringbreakfast. Hot tub on the balcony was great for this time of year.

Review 108:The staff wasn't overly friendly, and the Raymond suite was quite small... Almost uncomfortably small. Toilet was broken and shower was small. I do feel it was a little pricey for the quality of room.

Review 109:Loved the breakfast and hot tub on balcony!

Review 110:My room was comfortable for one, two would have been tight. And quitedark, despite not a cloud in the sky. It was called the Lang Room.

Review 111:Love the Castle - it really is one. Just a gorgeous common room. Staffvery friendly. Afternoon tea.

Review 112:I heard the place was haunted, but no ghosts showed up to meet us. Oh well, can't win them all!

Review 113:Everything! The staff was amazing, and we were able to meet the owners who were incredibly nice. The Lang Room was fantastic, a little small but perfect for the needs of myself and my wife. The breakfast was excellent, the service was perfect, everything was incredible! Highly recommend to anyone who is looking to take a trip to an incredible and beautiful property.

Review 114:There was an error made in the charge which I will discuss with theowner, and the reservation thru booking.com did not show up so I madeanother reservation which then caused me to have 2 rooms reserved. Alittle confusing but it all worked out.

Review 115:The house was comfortable and offered a sitting area indoors and alovely patio outside which we could enjoy so we weren't limited tojust the bedroom, which is important to me. The bedroom was a little onthe small side but since we didn't spend a lot of time there itwasn' t an issue. Breakfast was perfect, personally prepared anddelicious. The owner was personable and friendly but not toooverbearing.

Review 116:I didn't like the on line photo!! The inn has been restored and is friendly and comfortable. For me there were too many little decorations in our room--I put them in a cupboard!!

Review 117:The whole experience was great. We were upgraded to the presidents suit which was very large with sitting room, very large bathroom and a deck. The family that owns and runs the inn is helpful and knowledgable. They made our stay special. There is even a table with a puzzle ready to start.

Review 118:My 18 year old daughter and I stayed at Castle Marne for two nights. The B & B is beautiful. The staff is very accommodating. The breakfast was delicious. They will take any food preferences into account. It is very close to the zoo, nature & science museum and downtown. I highly recommend this B & B.
