Reviews for Wedmore Place

Review 1:Sound travels here!

Review 2:The staff was very polite and accomodating. The fireplace in our room was beautiful. Because the cafe at the hotel was closed for renovations the week we stayed, a breakfast cart full of delicious food was brought to our room each morning. We stayed in Burgendy 21, which was decorated in a classic European style. The hotel is nicely tucked away into the vineyard, and our room came with two tickets for the wine tasting.

Review 3:That i could not use the fire place, a big reason for selecting this hotel, unless it was below 50F outside.

Review 4:They upgraded my room to the Venetia suite which was amazing and a surprise. My girlfriend and I would stay there again if and when we visit Virginia in the future. It was our first romantic get away, and the hotel and location exceeded my expectations.

Review 5:Friendly staff and interesting rooms. We enjoyed having a fire lit even though it was a bit smoky in the room. Excellent coffee. The restaurant crew were very helpful. I want to see the Venetian room next time! The winery tour was fun.

Review 6:Wonderful facility for a weekend get away or romantic evening. Dined at the Cafe Provencal before retiring to our comfortable room. Food and service was excellent. Staff more than helpful to ensure a wonderful visit.

Review 7:Building needs refreshed. Paint in rooms, tiles around pool. General naintenance needed now or it will cease to be nice. Housekeeping staff needs to keep a checklist of what is needed in each room.

Review 8:Location close to all historic sites via Colonial Parkway. Beautiful antiques in every room. Helpful staff. Free wine tasting.

Review 9:Ventilation/AC was overpowered for the room size and windows don't open for fresh air as an option if wanted.

Review 10:Location next to the winery and also nearby historic sites was ideal. Manager and staff were wonderful and very accommodating.

Review 11:Bath fixtures are terrible. Deep Soaking tubs and better quality / design fixtures in tubs/showers would complement all the refinement elsewhere. The entrance to the hotel is too secluded and dark (especially at night). Easy to trip and fall in evening

Review 12:Gracious decor, homey B&B like touches, spacious rooms, the croissants!!! The ambiance of the winery next door.

Review 13:Fire alarm went off at 2am -false alarm but very disruptive to elderly traveler there for a funeral next day.

Review 14:Nice atmosphere and rooms. Front desk staff very friendly. No time to try the restaurant.

Review 15:Our room had a definite wood smoke smell even though we did not use the fireplace. Someone who is sensitive to smells should request a room without a fireplace. Also, there was no working wifi during our visit, and the electricity went out (not the hotel's fault, but inconvenient).

Review 16:This property is charming. Lots of character, beautiful decor, lovely large room, working fireplaces, and wonderful breakfast included in price. Staff was lovely, and did everything possible to reduce inconvenience of loss of electric power.

Review 17:This is most definitely not a 5star hotel. I was reminded of the"great rate" I got ($250/nite), and that our fire placewas not working in our room. After much negotiations, they did a fire. The bathroom towels were like sandpaper and the bathtub not userfriendly. We were there on a cold nite, yet there was not a fire in thegreat room. When I called to ask for a fire on our last morning, whichwas the big selling point of this hotel, I was told I couldn't until9 am. While staff were polite, they did not go out of their way toaccommodate. I would not return and highly recommend you drop at least 2stars. Had hoped for a cozy last minute stay at a charming place with aspa. Upon arrival I was told if I wanted a massage, which I did, I wouldhave had to schedule at least 72 hrs. In advance. And it was downhillfrom there! :(

Review 18:The food.

Review 19:Nothing.

Review 20:Loved my entire stay at this facility. The staff are wonderful, food is great, and the rooms are spacious and beautiful. Loved the tour of the winery.

Review 21:We arrived in the evening and found the long drive very poorly lit. It was very difficult to figure out where the Inn was. Worse was the location of the parking. It was necessary to walk through a break in thick pines in the dark to find our way in. We nearly tripped over the railroad ties bordering the parking area and then stumbled across the spongy uneven ground. They should remove those trees and build a well lit courtyard entrance and parking right in front & put lighting along the entire drive in. Also, I thought the entrance lobby lacked the "wow factor" and belied the elegance and charm within. It needs redecorating and an upgrade. Doesn't provide the right first impression for such a lovely place! But - I would still recommend it highly!

Review 22:Our room was wonderful. It was very welcoming, well appointed and the bed so comfortable. The staff were all very attentive, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a wonderful meal at the restaurant and also toured the winery which was a delightful surprise. It is quite an impressive facility in the European style. All around a fabulous place for either a romantic, restful retreat or a family gathering.

Review 23:I wish they would give a later time to start the fireplace. It had to be lit no later then 9PM, I think 10PM would be better.

Review 24:I loved everything about Wedmore.

Review 25:Quite expensive compared to good chain hotels. Wifi in room very poor and kept dropping off. Four poster bed so high it was hard to get in and out!

Review 26:Quite peaceful location. Refined but a little pretentious and expensive restaurant. Location for visiting historic sites. Staff were polite and helpful.

Review 27:Ambiance, linens, toiletries, breakfast

Review 28:Room temperature

Review 29:Quiet/peaceful

Review 30:Staff and food was excellent

Review 31:Nothing

Review 32:Wonderfull building and furnishings Very good restaurant also Did not have time to do the wine tour which sounded interesting

Review 33:bathrooms were a disappointment

Review 34:friendliness of staff

Review 35:We would have liked to be able to control the thermostat.

Review 36:No internet access. Signal not strong enough which hampered my business greatly

Review 37:The overall room

Review 38:The staff was so friendly. The food both at dinner and breakfast wassurprisingly delicious. Very European in feel.

Review 39:Relaxing; good service, great food.

Review 40:Pool not kept up well. Deck was was full of pine cones.

Review 41:Beautiful location & unique hotel.

Review 42:The internet connection was a nightmare.

Review 43:Everything was perfect, there's nothing to add here.

Review 44:Leaving!

Review 45:We stayed here for our 15th wedding anniversary and everything exceeded our expectations! It was such a charming and romantic atmosphere!!!!

Review 46:Beautiful property, staff is very friendly and attentive! Provencal food is excellent! The place is so clean and quiet, very romantic getaway.

Review 47:This property is set on a beautiful vineyard near the University of Mary Washington. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had an excellent stay.

Review 48:It was far enough off the road to transcend you back in time, to a European château.

Review 49:The bed slept as good as our bed at home which is rare for us to find.

Review 50:Noise, but they accommodate d our needs. Thank you.

Review 51:Breakfast!!!

Review 52:We were charged 143.00 for the 30 minute stay in the room .. We were looking for another hotel to stay .. Dark room , not worth the money !!

Review 53:The Hotel is next to a winery in the country, quiet and beautiful. Staff is excellent and friendly

Review 54:Signage finding Inn... Front entrance easy to miss

Review 55:Linkage to winery and overall charm

Review 56:TV options

Review 57:Breakfast, library, charm

Review 58:Though a scenic location on a winery is rather isolated from local restaurants when hotel restaurant closes one night. The on site "Tavern" now closes evenings!

Review 59:Good ambiance, great library to relax in, good breakfast with fresh cooked quiches. Helpful staff. Excellent reasonably priced restaurant.

Review 60:The only trivial little thing was that the room temperature was awfully warm during the night and no way to adjust thermostat. But this is not a complaint-just an observation.

Review 61:Wonderful location and charming hotel. Felt like an English or French country inn. Our dinner @ the Cafe Provencal was amazing. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it highly to others.

Review 62:over priced for a last minute booking... they weren't even full and gave no upgrade or discount... room smelled like fireplace and some type of bug obviously made it in room via fireplace and bit me during the night. Fortunately, no medical care was needed. BUT I hope to return one day to a better ROOM since all rooms are different.

Review 63:excellent peaceful location and clean room. rustic-luxury. friendly/professional staff.

Review 64:I didn't like our waitress at the resturant and the bed wasn't really comfortable . Also i think the rooms are to expensive for what u get

Review 65:The size of the room.

Review 66:Love the restaurant..it was my birthday and they made me feel very special. We got a room upgrade because we couldn't have the fireplace lit due to a flood the previous day. The hotel were most apologetic.

Review 67:Location was great in the middle of vineyards. Staff was exceptional. Breakfast great. Had Christmas dinner which was outstanding. Rooms were comfortable and clean.

Review 68:We had a wonderful stay and look forward to returning very soon. We loved the rustic elegance / setting. The staff were welcoming and gracious. One of our very favorite stays through Select Registry

Review 69:Would have liked to have an iron and ironing board available. Would also have found a bellows very useful in keeping the fire going at night. Usually we couldn't get the fire to last more than 20-30 min. Only other suggestion would be a more varied breakfast offering from one day to the next. Everything was delicious but pretty much exactly the same each day.

Review 70:The room was nicely decorated and felt very warm and welcoming. It had a nice fireplace, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The continental breakfasts were very enjoyable with exceptionally delicious croissants and excellent coffee. Found the staff to be friendly and tried to be helpful.

Review 71:didn'T understand the 'fireplace' policy. we returned from outing at 7:30pm and told desk staff we had dinner at cafe reservation at 8pm. he advised he would light fire for us. upon return from fabulous dinner he advised us he couldn'T light 'cause 'it'S too late'. it was 9:45pm. very disappointed!

Review 72:quiet, close enough to wmsburg but out of the frenzy. was delightful. cafe was wonderful for dinner. learned things from the winery tour, etc...bet summertime visit will be great too.

Review 73:The fire kept going out and we were awakened serveral times through out the night from banging of the doors due the wind blowing.

Review 74:The staff was friendly and responsive.

Review 75:I did not like the location, but I know a winery cannot be just anywhere.

Review 76:We loved the room, but were a bit intimidated by the breakfast. We enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere(not so formal) for breakfast.

Review 77:Beautiful room (Provence); lovely location in a vineyard; excellentFrench restaurant on premises; wonderful breakfast in same restaurantwith fresh-made quiche.

Review 78:It's probably just me, but the pillows on the bed were a little too fluffy for my taste.

Review 79:The service here was all-around excellent. We got a free glass of wine upon checking in and breakfast was delicious, with fruit, croissants, bread, and quiche. Definitely worth staying for more than one night if you have the time.

Review 80:Lovely, large, gracious rooms, each different, with authentique antiques. Excellent restaurant. Beautiful pool. In the countryside--very quiet, yet within a few miles of Williamsburg, Jamestown, and other sights. Highly recommended as a place to stay in this area.

Review 81:Comfortable king bed and great pillows. Ate yummy meals each night at the restaurant and friendly staff was very welcoming to our young baby . Loved setting and unique decor in our room too.

Review 82:Convenience of the room, e.g. ability to adjust the in room thermostat; paucity of bars/hooks to hang clothes and towels in the bath; an awkward shower head; very very slippery shower stall and no grab bars; servicing of bath on second day of stay.

Review 83:location; service; quiet; reserved; attractive premises; courtesy and willingness to be helpful on part of all staff; access to good food facilities on the premises.

Review 84:Breakfast selection was poor and the hotel was lacking in atmosphere. Returning to the hotel at 9.30 pm after dinner it was virtually closed down, we were unable to even get a cup of fresh coffee. Overall it was a rather disappointing stay.

Review 85:We visited Williamsburg, so Wedmore Place was a convenient location for our stay. There was a nice pool for an end of the day relax after a hard days sightseeing.

Review 86:Everything from the beautiful room, the staff, pool, vineyards and therestaurant Cafe Provencal. The food was amazing, we stayed 2 nights andeverything was excellent.

Review 87:The room was not clean. Several dead bugs and burned out light bulbs. The area between the sink and the wall has not been cleaned inmonths/years. Thick dust and cobwebs in there. No ice machine(have to call front desk), very small cheap television far from thebed and many channels did not work. Paint in the room was cracked andpeeling. No fans, airflow in the room is very poor and stuffy. Thetheme of the place is old luxury and it doesn't work, it isuncomfortable. No complimentary wine (it is a winery and you arecharging $250 a night). I can not recommend and I agree with severalother people in the guest journal.

Review 88:The winery was very nice and the building was interesting.

Review 89:We loved everything about Wedmore Place. The staff was excellent, the food was first rate, the room was wonderful. It's so quiet. You are surrounded by forest and vineyard. We will be back again.

Review 90:Scheduled the reserve wine tasting at the winery and wanted to get the discount that comes with a room reservation. Had quite a lot of trouble arranging this, had to call 3 times to get all the information and kept getting transferred back and forth. Ended up having to speak with a manager to schedule the tasting, which was wonderful.

Review 91:There were many small things, like the food served at breakfast, that really gave this place a luxury feel. The room was beautiful and richly appointed, without feeling stuffy or overdone.

Review 92:The bathroom sink was very low and the faucet was too far forward making one splash water all over. We thought telling us the dress code for the hotel was "business casual" was not appropriate or appreciated.

Review 93:The room was very spacious and nicely decorated. The breakfast was very good -expecially the quiche!

Review 94:Probably would prefer a gas fireplace but that would the charm of the Inn.

Review 95:It was a weekend of solitude from NOVA. The food at the restaurant was superb and the wine was great. We will be back!

Review 96:The selection of tv channels was very limited and the sitting area inthe room was not comfortable.

Review 97:The atmosphere was definitely European and the food at Cafe Provencalwas superb!

Review 98:The floors in the bedroom squeaked badly.

Review 99:Everything was great, the staff and service was helpful andprofessional. The accomodations were to a higher standard.

Review 100:A little difficult to find.

Review 101:No complaints. Room was comfortable and restaurant food was excellent.

Review 102:bath not up to rest of property standards, shower unwieldly,

Review 103:service, ambiance, decor, Pub lunch was excellent,

Review 104:Loved the wine tour, the cocktail hour and the gorgeous breakfast. Our room was quaint and comfy.

Review 105:Fabulous staff and beautiful hotel!

Review 106:Spotty wifi and cellular signals and terrible TV channel choices

Review 107:Comfortable, pretty rooms with attentive staff in a lovely vineyard setting

Review 108:The food was outstanding and of course the tour of the winery topped it off.

Review 109:Setting , infrastructure , quality

Review 110:To far from town

Review 111:The location on the vineyard

Review 112:loved the old world charm and beauty of Wedmore place .

Review 114:The total environment was delightful and very appealing. The trip was very enjoyable due to our stay at the Wedmore Place.

Review 115:Receptionist inhospitable, grudgingly helpful.Bath towels threadbare and ragged.

Review 118:Service
