Reviews for Fort Magruder Hotel and Conference Center

Review 1:Location was perfect as we were looking for a nice hotel close to Busch Gardens for Christmas town and this hotel fit the bill. It was very comfortable, everyone was very nice, especially the clerk at the desk when we checked in as well as when we checked out(same person) wish I could remember her name. :( We will definitely stay at this hotel the next time, great value for the money. May I suggest checking the hotel's own website for pricing as they had some great deals that I didn't realize when I booked thru Booking.com, although I did get a very nice price as well.

Review 2:Staff didn't seem to care at front desk. Both at check in and check out they made us feel like we were in the way. The workers out on the floors were very friendly and always smiled. Breakfast not included.

Review 3:Location is excellent.

Review 4:I requested 2 separate beds in the suite. But got 1 king because of lack of communication on booking.com fault. Could have used an extra blanket due to this issue.

Review 5:Friendliness, location and exec. Suite

Review 6:No hot water. An hour for room service to deliver a pot of black coffee. Room smelled damp,... when we first got there we had to call front desk to unlock the patio door,.... should have been unlocked before check-in.

Review 7:Love the location on a Civil War battle field,... the balconies off very room. Indoor and Outdoor pools. Location in Colonial Williamsburg.

Review 8:Terrible bed and pillows. Mattress too hard, and pillows went flat. No microwave in the room. No bottle water available. The room was too cold. No extra blanket could be found. Was unable to control the temperature. Toilet was too low. More for a child, then an adult.

Review 9:The atmosphere; the location, the room was clean. The price was moderate. The desk hostess was helpful.

Review 10:Staff took care of the problem we had when the reservation we madethrough booking.com didn't show up on Fort McGruder's books(apparently a frequent problem with booking.com). Staff went out oftheir way to make sure we were accommodated and honored the price quotedby booking.com. The total was actually cheaper than through booking.com.Staff was very gracious and went the extra mile. Room was clean uponentering the first day and kept clean daily. Property was easy to findand perfectly located for trips to Colonial Williamsburg and BuschGardens. I would not hesitate to return and book with the Fort McGruderHotel and Conference Center again. While we did not have pets, the hotelallows pets. They also have a pool which we did not use. Comfortablerooms with a balcony. Quiet facility - we did not hear other patrons ineither room or in the hallways when we were in our room.

Review 11:We arrived after 6 hours on a motorcycle to find out that theydidn't have our reservation even after I made a phone call to them 2days in advance to verify and they did absolutely nothing for us. Theyalso said that there was additional tax that was not included afterbooking.com had already charged us 11%. The front desk staff was of nohelp. They put us in a room with double beds and we paid for a king. Wewere there to celebrate our 5 year anniversary and had to sleep in aseparate bed. The room service didn't clean out the coffee maker, the toilet tank had a huge crack and the tub faucet would not shut off.We will not be staying here or recommending it anyone!

Review 12:The little pub inside, the bartender was nice and knew her stuff

Review 13:They didn't have our reservation for a king bed even after we called and verified they did. We were in to celebrate our 30 anniversary and could not even sleep in the same bed. They didn't care about anything we said to the staff.

Review 14:The little pub inside. Bartender was wonderful. She knew her beers and very friendly.

Review 15:The common areas of the hotel were dirty and they needed updating. The sheets wouldn't stay on the bed. After staff had straightened our room it appeared someone used our toilet and didn't flush.

Review 16:Upon arrival at 4pm the room was not ready and the desk staff didn't offer anytime to expect the room to be ready. Front desk staff needs serious public relations training. No towels in room, closet door broken, safety latch for balcony door broken.

Review 17:The location to the Colonial area.

Review 18:Wanted room with balcony but was told unavailable at time of checkin. Also, reserved 3 rooms but 2 was available. Had to wait 2 hrs to get room.

Review 19:Location

Review 20:Housekeeping staff was not up to standard - forgetting towels and not even cleaning the room one day!

Review 21:Pools were very nice and proximity to theme parks is convenient.

Review 22:The indoor pool was nice but the chemical smell was so bad that you could only stay in for a short time. Everyone was complaining and it was so bad everyone's eyes were burning and watering. There was no complimentary breakfast as in most of the surrounding hotels.

Review 23:The staff was very courteous and helpful in every situation.

Review 24:It is in need of some updating and therefore does not look as clean or smell as clean as it could.

Review 25:I like the location. Like 2 pools and workout center.

Review 26:Smell of the hallway and room. Smelled like jerrycurl products. The pool area was not clean and saw a few cockroaches in the pool area.

Review 27:Staff was friendly. Comfortable bed and good breakfast.

Review 28:The damp smell of the hallway and not having a balcony/patio on that side of the hotel.

Review 29:The staff: Dana, Artia, Tracy, Maurice, Malcolm and Gloria. Also, the cleanliness of the room was very good along with the comfort of the bed, space and free wifi.

Review 30:Doesn't appear to offer free wi-fi. For price paid breakfast should probably be included.

Review 31:Larger property than expected, located ideally midway between the theme parks and colonial area for us. Room was spacious, well appointed, clean and comfortable

Review 32:Room 234. We asked for foam pillows, only got two the other two has feathers. The hotel was badly in need of an updating. The carpets were torn, worn, and stained. Ceilings with water spots, hallway ceiling dripping water (puddle-wet carpet) one of the elevators did not work properly and smelled of burnt hydraulic oil, ice machine on the second floor was broken, hot tub water was green and stunk of strong chlorine, a bird that had laid dead for some time in the mulch by the pool entrance from the lobby (bones and feathers), landscaping needs weeding badly, remote control batteries were dead (two times) or the remotes just didn't work, could not turn the air off in the room and it ran constantly and made noise. Wanted to sit on the balcony but it was jury rigged with a lock in the track.

Review 33:Pool was ok, in the lobby the home made lemon/lime-aid was refreshing.

Review 34:From the beginning everything seemed ok. Went to the pool and 2 people were "doing things" that they should not have been doing, even with small children there. I woke up and my door had been opened. Traveling alone as a 130lb female, it was quite disturbing. Someone with a key had to have opened the door. I didn't go to sleep until after midnight, so while I was asleep, I am assuming I had a "guest". Really creepy. I woke up and the door was cracked. A little odd. And I am sure that it wasn't me who had left it open. As I said, I was alone on this trip so I made sure it was fully shut before I went to sleep.

Review 35:It was a nice hotel.

Review 36:Mattresses were horrible. Definitely not a comfortable night's sleep. There was dust on the nightstand and bed posts.

Review 37:Indoor pool, nice balcony in second room. Our first room had a balcony "to no-where" and was filled with water. Be sure you ask for a balcony facing the outside of the hotel.

Review 38:No bad experience, but if you stay on Saturday night, the parking lot is likely to be packed. The breakfast is not much to speak of but that's not a deal breaker for me.

Review 39:I liked the quietness of the floor we had. Slept like a dream. The hotel is in a great location and it seemed more like a place for business folks so not as noisy as a family hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 40:We had to change rooms three time. First a high school was on the third floor. My husband and I rounded the corner and there were guys lining the hall way while girls in string bikini walked through. Then the staff moved us and we went into a pet friendly room. Dog droll all over the coffee table, sink in bathroom had not been cleaned, human hair in bed. Yellow stain running down side of bed... GROSS!! Room number three had a hair on the pillow and I am not talking head hair!! This was for my husband's and my anniversary. Horrible stay and will never come back.

Review 41:The breakfast.

Review 42:Outdoor pool closed...indoor pool poorly maintained (hair floating in the pool and the Jacuzzi broken). Maintenance ladder left in the hall and some repairs half done.several pieces of exercise equipment broken in the gym. Housekeepin poor... soiled linens left uncollected in the hall overnight and black fungus growing between tiles in the shower.

Review 43:Although a bit small the room was nicely appointed and featured a walk out to a balcony with a lovely view.

Review 44:mattress was very uncomfortable, linen was not nice. cleanliness was not good refrigerator could not be set at a temperature- had to get a cot which was awful very thin mattress feeling springs all night. very disappointed.

Review 45:pool

Review 46:They overbooked the rooms and had to unblock a room for us which clearly needed some maintenance (i.e. a light bulb out, only one trash can in the entire suite, TV mounted on wall next to entertainment center, a leak somewhere in the floor). There was no view whatsoever, I didn't request one, but even a view of the parking lot would have been preferential to the wall outside the sliding doors. There seemed to be some issue at checkout with the staff not being clear on how to check us out because I made the reservation through Booking.com.

Review 47:The landscaping was nice, and the indoor pool and Jacuzzi were very relaxing.

Review 48:Lack of staff Those there are worked to breaking point and need help with the volume traffic passing though. Food 7/10

Review 49:Staff are friendly and helpful Accommodation just above average Facilities good and plentiful

Review 50:Room is in serious need of updating. The sheet came off while we were sleeping. Room was dark and dingy. It seems all the attention is paid to the lobby which seemed far nicer than the room.

Review 51:Good shower pressure and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Review 52:TV did not work, phone did not work, fan in bathroom did not work, had to ask to have room switched. Bathrooms are tiny. No breakfast included in price, just a very old outdated hotel, would not stay there again for that price. Better options are out there.

Review 53:Good location

Review 54:It's a lot bigger and nicer then the old hotel we used to have the convention at, so there was a lot of walking to get to the different events.

Review 55:Socializing the lobby with friends and associates. I love the sunk in seating area near the front desk. Great for meeting up with people. I also liked being able to order food in the bar. Ordering breakfast in advance and having it brought to our room was extremely helpful. Great room service!

Review 56:mattresses and pillows sucks a bug was under one of the pillows. TV is old and needs replaced had to bang on the side to get a picture on Sunday morning

Review 57:Staff was very good Young lady that was new as front desk manager was excellent.

Review 58:It was a good hotel for a good price, it made me feel at home and my whole family really enjoyed it. the breakfast was amazing and the pools were too. Next time I vacation there I'll be coming back for sure.

Review 59:The location is a little ran down. The room had a smell. The Wi-Fi was very poor.

Review 60:The location was very close to Busch Gardens. The Staff was very Friendly!

Review 61:The first night I went to have dinner by myself. Thebar/restaurant was was manned by just the bartender. This was aSaturday night and there were many people wanting to eat. There was asoccer tournament group with many tween boys and parents. The poor guywas overwhelmed!! Needless to say not all were happy with the severedelay in service. It was not the bartenders fault. You lost a lot ofpotential diners that night...

Review 62:The hotel was very close to the theme park. I had my teenage son and hisfriend for the trip. I got to drop them off on the first evening and goback to the hotel to relax. That was a plus for me, I do not do rides! The kids enjoyed their time at the park and the hotel!

Review 63:Little things that could be done since it's an old hotel. Spray air freshened in the room before guest arrive. The comforter is too thick, heavy and uncomfortable. The room was too cold, could not adjust thermostat. It felt damp in the room. All the towels se damp.

Review 64:The location!

Review 65:Even though we were the only people in line to check in at 10:47 PM, we have to stand around and wait for 15 minutes and wait for the front desk to wrap up phone calls. A line of three other guests formed behind us and everyone was irritated. It would have been nice if one of the employees placed the caller on hold instead of having us wait around for 15 minutes.. 15 minutes was not an exaggeration either because we did not get up to our room until 11:06pm. I was honestly really surprised. Sadly even though everything else about our stay was nice. The check in stands out the most in my mind. To be honest if the moment above did not occur I would have just deleted this email

Review 66:Cleanliness, location.

Review 67:The day we arrived, the bed was made but the sheets were rumpled , the trash had not been emptied, and there was hair and trash in the bathroom...dont think the room had really been cleaned. Repoted it to the ftont desk and they said they would send somone down and never did. The next day, since we were traveling with our dog, I called housekeeping to let them know when we would be out of the room with the dog. They wanted to know what I wanted them to do. I was a bit taken aback, but said,"Change the sheets, give us some clean towels, clean the bathroom...you know, service the room." For the price point, I think there are better accommodations inthe area.

Review 68:Hotel was pet friendly and convenient and iverall amenities (even though we didnt use them) seemingly nice.

Review 69:The stain on the carpet at the entrance to my room, the furniture that was in need of replacement for heavy use, the door to the outside balcony was unsafe, very dark in the room, bathroom was terribly dark and needed new lights

Review 70:The staff...

Review 71:The smell in the rooms needs to be updated needs new furniture and appliances most importantly needs to get rid of all the carpets!

Review 72:Close to Busch Garden , looks good on the outside two pools

Review 73:-carpet in room felt wet to touch and old -air conditioner had a smell like filters were not changed - bathroom mildew and floor tile seemed like it had water beneath them -children had allergies from smell

Review 74:location was good staff was polite

Review 75:I so wish I had only had great things to say...The front desk staff that were on duty on Saturday July 19, 2014 were friendly but not knowledgeable of policy, systems, transactions & billing to say the least. I stayed at the location in Williamsburg, Va for one (1) night checking out at roughly 10:30-10:45am on 7-19-14, my c.c. was charged $300.58 & I was told that the difference would be credited to my card within 2-3 business days which has not happened and here it is 7-24-14 & I am still getting the run around from the staff just to name a few Ms. Kimball which by the way does not return phone calls, Lindsey who has been the most helpful during this time consuming process. I've spoken to LaToya who stated she is one of the supervisors and she was clueless in assisting me & when I asked to speak to her manager Sara K conveniently she was in a meeting and I was denied her contact information at the time of one of my many calls on 7-24-14. Again I was told to call my bank to release the hold only to find out that there was no hold and c.c. charged $300.58. I call the hotel back yet again for a resolution for a credit a check something to be told that Ms. Kimbell would be calling me back well it looks like I will have to call back, if you remember Ms. Kimbell's track record with returning calls is non-existent! I am in the process of reaching out to the corporate office & the Better Business Bureau & filing a fraud report with my bank. I would hope that someone will make this right since the hotel has admitted to their error. For anyone considering staying at this hotel pay with cash!

Review 76:The location is great &the room was clean!

Review 77:It was old, coffee maker, hair dryer and iron were horrible. The linens felt damp. The alarm went off several times in our room. Not a good night sleep. Bath tub leaked and was very old.

Review 78:Location was ok. Staff was nice

Review 79:I was traveling with two older kids, so the sink area & bathroom could use a room divider cause the bathroom was a little small to get dressed in & the divider would make it easier to get ready.

Review 80:The location was close to Busch Gardens & Water Country USA. There was a restaurant in the hotel. The staff was friendly.
