Reviews for Shutters on the Banks

Review 1:Only one packet of caffeinated coffee and one decaf. Needed 2 caffeinated each morning. Office open 24 hrs, could have requested it, but didn't know at the time.

Review 2:Location to Ocean, restaurants, grocery stores, most in walking distance. Staff were nice and polite and willing to go out of their way to assist in making our stay great! Sounds through walls very minimal, so, quiet.

Review 3:Slow draining sink and rocking toilet, but I let them know and they promised to fix them.

Review 4:Size of the room and the ocean view in the tower were great!!! Super location!! Room smelled clean and not musty! Breakfast was fine, but not great. Gazebo was great on the beach!

Review 5:Terrific staff -- welcoming & helpful. I booked an ocean view room about an hour before arriving at Shutters on the Banks, not knowing the room included a balcony. I ended up propping the balcony door open for my of my stay so as to hear the ocean and feel its air while I sat at the desk and worked. Extended my reservation for an extra night, and snapped a lovely sunrise photo. Would have loved to have stayed longer. Spacious rooms. Clean, comfortable accommodations. Walking distance to both the Outer Banks Brewing Station (America's first wind-powered brew pub) and Duck Donuts. I recommended both of them, too.

Review 6:There was absolutely nothing not to like.

Review 7:Fantastic stay on Dec 5th and 6th we were in room 329 and it was amazing the front desk clerk she did me very well on he room selection it was exactly what I wanted and extremely awesome. I will def only be staying with you guys from now on when I visit OBX, thank you so much!!

Review 8:Realize check-in is at 4pm, but couple without reservation received room key, while we had to wait until after 3pm. Literally no view, problems with toilet (not firmly attached to floor) and tub (did not properly drain).

Review 9:Staff was friendly, information for facility was readily available. Room was comfortable and clean.

Review 10:Thermostat control needs directions in rooms. We stayed during the off season and needed extra parking across the street for an event. The charge of $50 was a bit aggravating.

Review 11:Friendliness, cleanliness, location.

Review 12:The hotel is and has been recently updated but unfortunately the room we stayed in was not what I would consider "recently" updated. I was told another building had been just updated after our room and was nicer. The stay was nice but our room needed a lot of updates, especially in the bathroom.

Review 13:Location

Review 14:Everything negative we experienced is in the process of being updated as the wing we stayed in is now under construction for improvement. The room was simply older with a few issues with wear and tear but the remodel should correct all of them.

Review 15:Excellent location and friendly staff.

Review 16:The room had a musty smell. The thermostat had cool or heat ... very difficult to regulate the temperature ( a simpler system would work)

Review 17:Friendly staff & great location

Review 18:Pillows were a little thick and hard. Would have been nice to have a softer pillow available in the room.

Review 19:Outdoor pool was heated perfectly for our 12 year old boys to enjoy in October. Beds were very comfy and gazebo was perfect for enjoying ocean views without getting sandy!

Review 20:There was a little rust at each end of the outside of the tub where it meets the floor.

Review 21:The smoke free room and the closeness to the beach. I also liked the hot tub and indoor pool.

Review 22:Didn't have had e patience. But room needed to be painted. It has chipping paint all over and made me feel like room didn't match the overall apperance that was beautiful

Review 23:Friendly staff. Great location

Review 24:On our second day we had to ask for house keeping to come in and clean. for some reason we were skipped over. but they didnt mind coming in and cleaning. They were very quick in fixing the problem.

Review 25:The breakfast was very good. a little crowded at diffrent times but nothing that was a major pain. Over all enjoyed our stay.

Review 26:This is our 4th stay at Shutters. We stay one night before checking in to our vacation rental for the week. We will definitely stay at Shutters again and would stay here for longer time, if needed.

Review 27:I didnt like the late check in. They will only guarantee a 4 o'clock check-in. By that time u have löst Most of a day. It check out is 11 U should able to have it ready Vs at least 2 unless ur understaffed.

Review 28:I like the price & location.

Review 29:Bathrooms are a little tight. AC runs right in your face if bed is on that side of room but it did keep room cool! Continental breakfast is what you would expect nothing fancy or exciting.

Review 30:The place is perfect for beach travels. Doesn't smell old or damp. Rooms are adequate. Staff very nice. A restaurant or two within walking distance. An easy walk to beach!

Review 31:No bad experience. Wish it were easier for those of us with health problems to walk to the water without having to climb such a ridge to return. Also bathroom is very small but can make do for a few days.

Review 32:I have stayed at Shutters before and I really do like the place, the indoor pool and hot tub, the location on the beach - almost perfect.

Review 33:I made the mistake of asking for a first floor room (thinking that this was up a set of stairs but forgetting that americans count the ground floor as the first floor). Terrible view of the carpark.

Review 34:Staff were friendly and it was a short walk to the beach.

Review 35:The pool water was murky and warm. Was looking for a refreshing dip in the outdoor pool but that wasn't the case.

Review 36:Have been to the Outer Banks several times. Very much enjoyed our stay at Shutters. Room was clean and updated.

Review 37:Couldn't beat the location- right on the beach and walking distance to a few bars and local joints. Super convenient to rent beach chairs and umbrellas, so that you wake up and your stuff is already set up for you!

Review 38:We had a room on the first floor which had a "dune" view. I was expecting to not see the ocean, but just the sand dunes. Well, we didn't even see the dunes. All we saw was a tall cement wall. Barely any light came into the room. It wasn't very pleasant at all, especially for the price that we paid. If it was advertised correctly I don't think I would have been so put off by what we received.

Review 39:The fact that the property was on the beach was a plus.

Review 40:Our room over looked the water, enjoyed watching the sunrise each morning. The room was spotless, clean and smelled clean, bathroom was the same. Breakfast has the usually danish, english, bagels, freshfruit and make your own waffles. Coffe was fresh and hot, was available all day. Staff was helpful and pleasant. Will return for sure.

Review 41:The hotel is older but they are working on remodeling.

Review 42:The location is the absolute best. My family traveled here for the first time and we loved it. We will definitely be back.

Review 43:I wish the outside pool was open when we stayed.

Review 44:Comfortable, clean, and the breakfast was nice. The beach location is a little rocky and dropped off--probably better for fishing, but within a short walk of more swimmable shores. I thought that was a good trade off for the price. It wasn't so big that I felt crowded.

Review 45:The bathroom facilities were poor. No bath mat provided and the outside door opened straight onto the sink and washing area. The pillows were so hard I ended up sleeping on a rolled up towel.

Review 46:Waking up to the sea view and being so close to the beach was perfect.

Review 47:Bathroom was a little small, the exterior of the hotel needs new paint and updating. Entrance to the indoor pool is not that easily accessible if you're on the main part of the property.

Review 48:Awesome location next to beach, staff was really friendly and brought us towels and toiletries even though we had our "Privacy Please" sign up. The pools were clean, efficiency room was nice and convenient. Enjoyed the outdoor shower after the beach.

Review 49:We stayed there for one night and and love to see sun rise. This hotel is best for that I can see sun coming up from the see from my room window. We will definitely revisit outer bank

Review 50:Beds were alittle uncomfortable and the room did not get dark enough with just the shutters covering the windows.

Review 51:Friendly staff, great location, cleanliness of room, proximity to things to do

Review 52:This hotel is in a great area. Lots of shops and restaurants close by. The room was very spacious and clean and the staff was wonderful. They had a nice breakfast every morning.

Review 53:Rooms are becoming outdated. Very bland and cheap contiental breakfast. Boardwalk to the beach needs updating as grandson got some splinters the first day which hurt and hobbled his visit.

Review 54:Great location, friendly staff and very clean.

Review 55:Could not get WiFi in my room. Could not use cell phone. Bed tooooo soft and squeaky. Did nit eat breakfast as room was toooo crowded. Only got coffee to take to my room.

Review 56:Location was good.

Review 57:I couldn't think of one thing that we didn't like.

Review 58:We liked everything about Shutters On The Banks. Breakfast was great, the staff was really nice, over all it was just an awesome place. We will definitely be going back.

Review 59:Because the room was renovated, the smell of fresh paint was a little strong.

Review 60:Staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great room despite some renovations that were going on. The indoor pool was wonderful!

Review 61:The only thing I would change is the noisy mattress. We slept fine, but getting in and out caused my 1 year old to stir in his sleep. I imagine this would not be an issue for anyone else. :)

Review 62:The location of the hotel made it easy to see many of the sights and attractions in the OBX (Outer Banks) area. My family enjoyed night-time views/sounds of the ocean while sipping hot chocolate. We would book this again in a heartbeat!

Review 63:We were lucky enough to have the same front desk person when we checked out as we did when we checked in. She was amazing! There was a large group of unruly teenagers that came in on Friday night. Several guests complained about them and she handled the situation very diplomatically. Unfortunately we were not able to get her name.

Review 64:Breakfast was meh, paint peeling in places, hot water came and went. Have stayed in three others on the beach within a half mile and they're all similar

Review 65:Indoor pool was nice in Dec; receptionist was nice.

Review 66:Very small bathroom (sink and shower/Toilet separate). Noisy AC (heating) at night. Breakfast area a bit tiny. No view from first floor rooms.

Review 67:direct access to the beach, updated rooms. Breakfast included. Indoor swinning pool. free parking and WiFi.

Review 68:no windows to open, breakfast --> everything was made of plastic: plate, fork, cup, etc. and thrown away. Very unhealthy food.

Review 69:wifi, tv, I got a new room after my complaint it was smelling.

Review 70:Breakfast ok but limited. Serving area should be larger.

Review 71:Staff very friendly and helpful. Situated on the beach. Nice gazebo for watching waves and sunrise.

Review 72:The breakfast area could be bigger. It was too cold to eat outside.

Review 73:Staff was helpful and courteous. Breakfast buffet was excellent. View of the ocean excellent. Wish they had a restaurant there. Very quiet.

Review 74:Plastic and paper plates, cups, knives and forks for breakfast. But that's the US for you.

Review 75:Unbeatable location - on the beach Neat and tidy Excellent staff

Review 76:Sounds from upstairs and next door intruded on sleep. The link passageways could do with a bit of smartening up. Breakfast could do with a bit more quality, like plain eggs, bacon etc.

Review 77:Position, staff and convenience. The manager and staff went out of their way to help. Fabulous position right by the beach.

Review 78:Bath area is small. I am 60+ years old, and would suggest that a grab bar be placed in the bathtub and on the wall - bottom of tub is slippery, as was the floor.

Review 79:This is an older hotel which has been thoughtfully refurbished. We were in the tower, looking right out on the ocean. Magnificent view. The room was nicely appointed, with everything clean and comfortable. We would stay here again.

Review 80:It's far from Ga so I can't go more often....

Review 81:Everything location was great, staff was friendly, I could hear and see the ocean from the back door. The room was super clean and the beds were comfy. The Outer banks are wonderful and Shutters was a good place to stay while there.

Review 82:We went off season due to the cheaper price. However we couldn't see ourselves paying regular summer season prices for that room.

Review 83:Cute place, nice view

Review 84:It would be nice if there was some type of protein available at breakfast.

Review 85:Very clean. Right on the beach. Friendly staff and very well located. Certainly would stay here again.

Review 86:That there was no ironing board or iron located in the room.

Review 87:The breakfast was good. Enjoyed the gazebo. The location was located within walking distance of several restaurants.

Review 88:Rooms were kind of small. Be sure to get one facing the ocean. Breakfast area seating was cramped.

Review 89:Great location, very friendly and courteous staff. Very good value. Nice included breakfast.

Review 90:Bed was not comfortable so we did not sleep well.

Review 91:Breakfast had a good choice of items to chose from. Even though we did not have a ocean front room the beach was a short walk. The gazebo was a nice place to sit and watch the sun rise.

Review 92:.Needs elevator for the older building or some convenience to be able to help carry heavy luggage to 2nd floor.

Review 93:convenience, nice breakfast, nice atmosphere.

Review 94:Room was small for 2 adults and 2 toddlers. Tiny bathrooms.

Review 95:Excellent proximity to everything (beach, attractions, etc.). Quality staff, nice amenities.

Review 96:The inner walls of the corridors were clean but needed painting (perhaps a brighter color next time as well because narrow, dark corridors make people feel uncomfortable) In my room one of the shutters was broken, less of a problem than the hassock smelling strongly like urine. One side of one of the beds had a tilt to it that made it unusable to me as it felt like I would roll off onto the floor. The wifi was undependable.

Review 97:The staff were excellent and very courteous. I often question staff about the locality and I got friendly and helpful responses. The cleaning staff was considerate and helpful as well. The location was excellent. The gazebo was a great feature. There was also staff available to help with the beach chair and umbrella and he went out of his way to be accommodating. He was an excellent customer interface in his capacity. the general manager was on site, working and personable.

Review 98:We stayed for three nights. Our first 2 nights were wonderful. The third night we had to move due to finding a roach, found another roach in the second room and the third room also had a dead roach squashed on the wall in plain sight under the lamps on the wall. Lazy house keeping obviously. It was the first thing we saw when we walked in. It's a hotel they happen and it's out of their control. We will go back because of how the situation was handled.

Review 99:The location is excellent. A short stroll to the beach. Comfortable beds. Beautiful view. Very friendly staff. Especially Teresa that was at breakfast! She was amazing! There were some issues on our last night but we were quickly compensated.

Review 100:We didn't find anything to complain about.

Review 101:This was an impromptu vacation and I didn't think I'd find good accommodations on one days notice. The Shutters was a good find. It was the most affordable one left with vacancies and we were pleased with all aspects of the hotel. Great location, comfortable beds, free breakfast....good stuff

Review 102:The hotel is older and showing it's age. Our room you could smell mold and see it on the ceiling under the paint. There was no more rooms and it was the busiest time for all hotels so getting another didn't happen. Just make sure that you call the hotel ahead of time and make sure you have a mold free room.

Review 103:The beach. The staff was great and very helpful. The rooms were super clean.

Review 104:Exterior could use a paint job. Carpeting wasn't thoroughly vacuumed. It's easy to track sand in the room regardless of how careful you could be. A clothes line, drying rack or swimsuit dryer would be a great addition. My iPad wasn't able to connect w the hotel wifi, my iPhone had weak connectivity but was able to link. NO ELEVATORS, it's a walk up. They probably reserve the 1st floor rooms for guests with mobility issues.

Review 105:Cost. Location to the beach, indoor and outdoor pools. Biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Staff were courteous.

Review 106:Housekeeping did not perform a linen change on the beds while we were there; towels were changed, but bed linens were not.

Review 107:We checked on a Sunday. The room was as expected; no issues during check-in at all. The hotel is steps from the beach, and the gazebo is a beautiful place to sit and have coffee in the morning while looking over the ocean and surrounding dunes. It's a relatively quiet beach area, and we really loved that. The indoor/outdoor pools were perfect when the kids had enough of the ocean but still wanted to play in the water. The continental breakfast was better offering than most -- in addition to standard cereal and pastries, there was fruit, waffles, and biscuits.

Review 108:We enjoyed our stay greatly. Everything was so nice. I was a bit nervous. I had never been here so was wondering if the reviews I had read were accurate. Everyone was very friendly. Breakfast was decent, we didn't have a view of the ocean but it was just a little walk across the dunes to the beach. Inside and outside pool were very nice.. Hot tub was great... We did not want to leave... We will be back

Review 109:Bathroom was very small and the door rubbed against the toilet when it was closed, but the room was clean and that matters most to me.

Review 110:The staff, especially Tanya, was awesome! The price was very competitive and the location was great, If we visit the Outer Banks again, I will be calling Shutters on the Banks.

Review 111:Nothing, it was a great experience.

Review 112:They overbooked for this weekend and after a few cancellations, moved us up to oceanfront. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, and the room was very clean. Couldn't have asked for a better time!

Review 113:The pools were a little cloudy in appearance. The location of the coffee and juice station hard to get to in the corner due to the proximity of the line for food.

Review 114:Very Impressed! We like the proximity to the beach as well as the option of an outdoor and indoor pool. The room was great with full size appliances. Would be a great place to stay for a week. We were only staying overnite. A great breakfast selection too!

Review 115:Just walk out the door and you are on the beach. Great food for your breakfast, like sausage gravy and biscuit, fresh fruit, and more . lighting hit the pole in front of hotel, and the service was back in an hour. everything was very clean, and the people were very nice.

Review 116:No dislikes

Review 117:Staff were very kind, professional and accommodating..

Review 118:Not enough light in the bedroom. The light by the tv was out. We checked bulb with other light and it wasn't the bulb.

Review 119:Ocean view.

Review 120:View from our room overlooking the ocean was spectacular

Review 121:Contemporary style. had a homey feel and location was the best

Review 122:The bathroom was tiny and dingy.

Review 123:The view of the ocean from our 4th floor room was wonderful. The room was comfortable and attractive.

Review 124:Couldn't stay longer!

Review 125:Beautiful view of ocean, comfortable bed, interior decorated very nicely

Review 126:The coffee and coffee creamer need some improvements.

Review 127:Loved the Ocean side location.

Review 128:the bed

Review 129:the location

Review 130:there was nothing that we didn't like

Review 131:Everything was amazing and friendly! Loved the walk out directly to the beach!

Review 132:Was booked as a pool view room, was actually a view of a hallway.

Review 133:Ocean view....conveniently located to restaurants and points of interests such as Kitty Hawk and Cape Hatteras

Review 134:Heavy door thats it.

Review 135:Location Bed very comfortable, blankets very nice, bath and body works very nice, Free Breakfast great!!! Price good.

Review 136:Love the location. I also like the fact it is a small family run business. I always try to stay there first when going to Outer Banks.
