Reviews for The Belamar
Review 1:This is a pet friendly hotel. Not usually a problem but had a reaction to either pet hair or deodorizer. Staff was accommodating to move room immediately. On booking I should have requested pet free room.
Review 2:Close to airport.Great layover location if travelling to further destinations.
Review 3:I wish the beds were pillow top style or a little softer as they were "springy".
Review 4:The staff was AMAZING! They were ALL engaged and went out of their way to help, from the housekeeper, to the front desk, to the parking valet to the guys up in the lounge/restaurant. This is the way a motel (or any other business), SHOULD be ran! The rooms were very well decorated, clean and quiet.
Review 5:We like the kindness of the car valets, the front desk hospitality, the wonderfully decorated rooms, a view to the courtyard, closeness to town and the peace. The Second Story is such a nice lunch and dinner spot. We like everything.
Review 6:Had very quiet spacious room with two double beds, roomy efficient bathroom. Very clean and staff very accommodating.Had good room service meal, also restaurants walking distance from hotel. Handy to freeway and nice swimming pool. Would stay again.
Review 7:The room price, paying $5.45 for a cold water when the Front Desk quoted me $3, but didn't have any, the motel looking room,
Review 8:The bed linens and bath towels, TV
Review 9:Breakfast buffet wasn't worth the money.
Review 10:Customer service, with the exception of the male front desk manager, was exceptional. Everyone was very accommodating.
Review 11:Always enjoy staying at the Belemar. However our other choice is the Marriott. Cost is the decision maker even though we would prefer the Belamar. Our family lives in Manhattan Beach and we visit at least 6 times per year
Review 12:Always
Review 13:Pretty noisy hotel. Not the road but the room next door. Toilet flush etc.
Review 14:Nice room. Not really special. Pics on the website are nicely done but in real it is not that fancy.
Review 15:We arrived at 4:45pm & room wasn't ready even with a 3pm checkin. That's ok but bit sad that the staff didn't apologize much. Just a little ”Can we do something else to make your stay better?” would've eased the travel aches :D
Review 16:Close to LAX & can take quiet street straight to Manhattan Beach/Strand. Great valet, grounds staff.
Review 17:The Belamar is a great location with gracious staff and an excellent restaurant. My room was upgraded and very comfortable. It is a little expensive but worth the money.
Review 18:Unfortunately this hotel is more like a lodge than hotel. Pool is a joke. On pictures and website the hotel is extremely over promised.
Review 19:Location not far away from Manhattan Beach
Review 20:A little bit noisy if you are next to the doors to the pool area but nothing major and only passing noise.
Review 21:Perfect for a short stopover at LAX - only 15 mins drive away from the airport. Only 15-20 min walk to Manhattan beach (pier, restaurants, cafes) and it's a beautiful walk. Nice, clean hotel, helpful staff, nice restaurant, lots of Uber taxis in the area too.
Review 22:The room itself was spectacular, complete with everything we could ask for in a hotel for the price. The staff was incredibly helpful whenever we needed them, and overall our stay was fantastic.
Review 23:Had a terrible room with a connecting door next to someone who played loud action films till 4 AM in the morning.
Review 24:Great staff, location, amenities, and vibe.
Review 25:Had to call service desk twice for to get towels delivered. Not walking distance to town or the beach but good value. No shuttle available to take you to the beach but you could borrow bikes.
Review 26:Good value for the location. Rooms were clean.
Review 27:Very sterile and lacks facilities. Bar/restaurant operating hours more suited to hotel not hotel guests. Previously when Barnaby's had much more character, identity now is lost, seems like travellodge type hotel now.
Review 28:Nothing stands out
Review 29:The breakfast buffet was pretty generic and overpriced for a restaurant with a renowned chef. Maybe the famous chef isn't there at breakfast.
Review 30:The service was excellent. The fresh baked cookies were a nice touch. It wasn't as close to the beach as we thought it would be, but it's still just a short drive from everything. The valets were really nice and on time with the car whenever we needed it. Close enough to the airport that you can get to early flights without trouble.
Review 31:One Sunday morning I went for an early swim at 8am and the pool area had not been cleaned/tidied from the night before. There were still empty bottles of Korona lying about and no towels. For a 4 star hotel this is not good and should have been ready to go by 7.30am.
Review 32:The room was gorgeous with a little porch and loads of room. Lovely bathroom, a safe , fridge and big tv. The courtyard with comfy chairs and sofas and the pool area all very attractive. Located near the Manhattan Village Mall and right next to petrol station and the PCH / the 1. Only a short 'jog' to the beach.
Review 33:The only improvement I would suggest is another selection/brand of bath articles (strange scent). But having a shower cap provided was terrific! Also, for the price of the room the extra $10 parking fee wasn't necessary.
Review 34:Great location and attractive property site, with easy access to shopping areas and restaurants. Friendly staff, great bed, and very quiet all night. Upgraded to a suite upon arrival which gave us a huge room. Nicely decorated and comfy sofa.
Review 35:The discontinued Happy Hours on Saturdays and Sundays, No bueno. Who's bright ideal was that one?
Review 36:Room 325 - The Parlor Suite is wonderful. Get courtyard view, balcony, ample room. I staying in this room. As a swimmer love the pool of course. Staff, Brad and Ricky are great! Mauh.
Review 37:The double beds are too small for a couple, so we had to move so we could actually fit in the bed. I would prefer a hotel closer to the beach, but it is worth the distance for our dog to come along. Wish there was a screening on the windows, as I can't stand heating/air (I unplug) and have to have the windows open, at least a bit.
Review 38:The decor and style of the hotel was unique and more stylish than the average hotel; loved the photos of the dogs! We had to switch rooms three times, but the third room, the suite, was perfect for a family of four (with two roll beds) and dog. The bar/restaurant was a great place to hang out and comfort and stylish. The beds, roll beds, and pillows are comfortable.
Review 39:The only trouble I had was my room key . . It was a struggle to get the door open because the key was faulty
Review 40:I only stayed for one night so I didn't have the chance to take advantage of what the hotel offers. . But it was a nice hotel that I would love to stay at again . .
Review 41:Coffee selection in rooms-peets or Starbucks pls
Review 42:Loved the lobby ambiance, and hospitality ( water!!), easy access to bathrooms. We used the pool, hot tub and gym right away then got good recommendations for dinner. So close to the beach-pity we couldn't stay another day...quiet rooms too
Review 43:Every staff member we encountered were polite, friendly, and helpful. And the amenities were just right for a "staycation" in the South Bay. We will return!
Review 44:Nothing...
Review 45:Easy walk to shopping center, short cab ride to airport, Manhattan Beach's independent restaurants & it's scenic beach. Fresh ingredients on breakfast buffet.
Review 46:We had to ask for extra pillows and feather. We were only there for one night so didn't use all of the facilities.
Review 47:Comfortable bed Good Location if you have a car Quite if you are not on Sepulveda side
Review 48:Small hotel, friendly staff. Had a king balcony room, spacious and clean, and great bed too. Hotel is very close to Manhattan beach and shops...just a 5 minute walk. The restaurant has very good choices, delicious salads, sandwiches, etc. Prompt room service.
Review 49:The walls and ceilings were thin; it seemed like the neighbors were right in my room. Very chintzy with the pillows. There were only two small ones for a king sized bed.
Review 50:We were there on a weekend in the middle of December and there were a few parties going on so loud music until at least 11. On Saturday night there were lots of people in the bar and only one bartender. We left and went elsewhere.
Review 51:Staff is friendly and we love the restaurant. Great value for meals. Rooms are clean and comfortable
Review 52:dated renovations, bathroom needed updating, looked tired. Bedroom looked like a renovated motel room with window heat/ac unit. workout room fair
Review 53:location, restaurant, staff
Review 54:On a hot day walk to the beach seems long if you have to do it twice. But then you cant have everything, price and location. Ask for a quiet room it s on a very busy road.
Review 55:20mins walk to the beach. Supermarket nearby. LAX very close.
Review 56:There was a private party which made the pool un accessible. The staff was not very accommodating. Called down for ice never got it. I tried to get cash out of the atm to tip the valet but it never dispensed my cash. Don't use the atm and make sure you have cash.
Review 57:The pool, The second story restraunt, the bathroom amenities.
Review 58:Customer service was atrocious. TV didn't work, beds are NOT doubles (more like larger singles) &!we were refused a roll away, forcing me & my son to share a sleepless night in what was advertised as a 2 queen room. I will avoid the Belamar in my future travels to MB.
Review 59:There was a wedding in the courtyard so it was a bit noisy but we were so beat we were still able to fall asleep quickly.
Review 60:Service oriented front desk staff: my reservation via booking.com didn't transfer over to the hotel's system. the front desk staff could see it in booking's system so honored it even though the hotel was full
Review 61:Phoning the hotel directly, they could not match any internet booking sites in price…seems to me you would rather book direct than book thru someone else. Both calls were met with no knowledge of other pricing, and NO helpfulness. I felt as if I were speaking to a part time car valet, NOT the front desk or reservationist! Restaurant is out of ones view, no menus around , no encouragement to try it, I have never even seen it and this is my 4th visit there!
Review 62:Intimate in size, neighborhood feel, pool an extra, little things like the pretty flavored water go a long way. Staff is friendly, if not efficient.
Review 63:The hotel bar has a nice bites menu but it's not very well laid out and the breakfast was pretty basic.
Review 64:The hotel design is a nod to the 50's but with modern amenities. The rooms are well laid out, the pool area is comfy, and it's a short trip to the airport
Review 65:- Fire Alarms went off for about 30 min sporadically, were super loud, and no one could tell us what the problem was or when it would end. - Bike rentals were $30 for both of us, and we were only out a little over 2 hours! BOO! - Being put on the 1st floor makes me nervous - The music at the pool is horrible; I felt like we were visiting an old folks home, not on vacation. Pool is tiny/small but we had it all to ourselves so it worked. - Room temp is either freezing cold with AC on or sweltering hot with AC off
Review 66:Location, super affordable parking ($10), very easy to check in and out. An overall good value. The valet guy was super nice.
Review 67:We booked a 4 person room and when we arrived the 2 beds were a king single with only enough amenities for 2 people, when I confronted the front staff the guy was very rude with an attitude and told me that the room was big enough for 4 people and I said if you are a munchkin. I asked for a fold away bed and he said no because it is a fire hazard. We checked out the next day because we couldn't move in the room only to find out that they had charged our credit card for 3 days and a $50 incidental per day on top, after we said we are paying cash, then to be told it would take 5 days to resend money back onto our card which was no good as we were back in Australia.
Review 68:nothing
Review 69:Quaint boutique hotel near beach, shopping and restaurants. Loved relaxing in the beautiful courtyard by the firepit! I stayed here with my daughter after picking her up from USD. We will definately stay here again next year!
Review 70:Ice machine on 1st floor only. WiFi in room was not reliable.
Review 71:Great staff, very helpful. We wanted to take a tour of LA and the concierge helped us set up a tour that picked us up and dropped us off again. No cabs needed! There is also a wonderful walking trail that leads right to Manhattan Beach. The WiFi was a bit up and down, but after calling the front desk they came right up to the room and even offered to move us to another room if we couldn't get it worked out.
Review 72:The fact that I didn't choose it first lol
Review 73:My stay was most enjoyable. I checked out of a noisy hotel and chose to try the Belamar. Let's just say that I checked out of hell into heaven. A+
Review 74:No complaints.
Review 75:The staff, the rooms, the pool, the courtyard, the restaurant where we know and love the servers. We are still a little miffed by the dog fee of $75 even for one night. Valets are wonderful. The Belamar is the best that has happened to coastal LA. Kathleen Reid, Santa Barbara
Review 76:We liked everything!
Review 77:We have written you several times about our fine experience at the Belamar. We liked our quiet room. The dog was in heaven as always there. My adult son loves to come to the Second Story for dinner. The food is delicious and it is very well managed by Piers and served by perhaps Genike. We swim in the pool, walk downtown (1 mile) and take advantage of all the shops. The Strand is a great place for further walking. You know from our reviews that the Belamar is our favorite hotel in California. Best, Kathleen Reid
Review 78:There are no wine glasses in rooms; when I asked the front desk to please have some sent up they said not a problem ; I never got them! The sheets had small holes in them and towels need to be replaced; they are old! The artwork; if you want to call it that was horrific! Just really cheap and bad! I've machine on the 1st floor only; that's just insane! And there was a strong odor in my room and hallways... Not good, stale and musty! You may think these aren't important but they are very important !
Review 79:The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The lobby was nice.
Review 80:My only - was the jacuzzi paint pealing off.
Review 81:If you like a great boutique hotel, than you'll like The Belamar. Second Story Restaurant is not just on property it's on the second floor of the hotel making meeting with friends and clients easy. Also the location was easy to get to and a lovely little lapis blue tile pool.
Review 82:The room I was in didn't have great wifi. It dropped out every now and then and only really worked properly in the bathroom. I wasn't too worried though. The good certainly outweighed this.
Review 83:I was staying on my own, a young blonde girl, and the staff were all so friendly and made me feel so welcome. The hotel is in quite a good location and a pretty easy 20 minute walk to the beach on a beautiful track. The pool and garden area is lovely. I got upgraded to the junior suite which was wonderful. The beds are super comfortable and massive. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone flying into LA for a few nights.
Review 84:Friendly, helpful staff. Clean and comfortable room in quiet location. Handy to mall (5 minute walk) and short drive to several restaurants. $30 taxi ride to LAX.
Review 85:No laundry facilities. I hate taking dirty clothes back home... The pool is small, crowded.
Review 86:The "boutique" feel, the close proximity to everything, the helpful staff. Free valet and free wi-fi topped it off nicely.
Review 87:The room was noisy from traffic outside the window and people in room above. The room smelled musty. The pool was not outdoors and had no place to lie in the sun.
Review 88:The path to the beach. The staff were courteous and helpful but in a cursory way. Good location near the airport but we checked out one night early.
Review 89:Our room was extremely outdated, smelled abc the bathroom cremics were all cracked. Smelled really bad and carpet and barroom floor was stained/dirty.
Review 90:TV Chanels; valley parking; near Mamharhn beach and LAX. Beach was fantastic!
Review 91:You could hear everything outside and hear people walk through the halls. Need more soundproofing, I didn't sleep all night.
Review 92:The room was very nice and comfortable.
Review 93:The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. I visited the beach 3 times, first on a nice leasurly walk (a few hills), next on one of the bikes I rented from the hotel (only $5 6-8 am), and once for a short 2 mile run. Very enjoyable.
Review 94:The location could be closer to beach, but if it was, it would have cost a lot more! Wish there was self parking but it's not a deal breaker.
Review 95:The courtyard with couches and pool. The fruit water in the lobby that changed daily.
Review 96:We found the staff & management to be extremely helpful / accommodating & friendly. This being the case both before our arrival (during our booking communication) and during our stay for three nights at the Hotel. Prior to making our booking with this Hotel, we had read the reviews listed on this website. We can now certainly agree with the 'positive' reviews we read from previous guests. I would like to add a special thank you to Melanie Tennant & all the staff for their efforts in ensuring our stay was both comfortable & enjoyable. We have already booked a return visit!
Review 97:The gym was a converted room - tiny and no bathroom I had to walk far to use the restroom. I wish the bar was better it was empty. Great bartender - he made us great drinks and was very nice to us. Great customer service.
Review 98:I liked the rooms - looked clean and upbeat.
Review 99:Located on a busy street (sepulveda) Walking distance to Manhattan Beach town and beach about 1.3 miles
Review 100:Very Modern New Decor in lobby and rooms Great Restaurant - Second Story Clean Pool Nice Staff
Review 101:Front desk staff got a bit rude under pressure

Review 109:Staff were fantastic. Rooms quiet and very comfortable beds.
Review 110:THe staff was great!
Review 111:The staff, the staff and the staff. They gave us VIP treatment. Why would I stay anywhere else. They took care of us. And they did it with a smile.
Review 112:I loved that they had a chilled bottle of prosecco on our arrival as I had told them that we were celebrating a 21st birthday!
Review 113:Ants infested
Review 114:food at the restaurant was good but expensive
Review 115:Nothing
Review 116:Lovely small hotel with excellent staff
Review 117:The service is tops!

Review 119:Staff was friendly and professional
Review 120:It was super close to everything. My ubers were all super cheap and it was close to a friends house. The staff was friendly and I had a great trip.
Review 121:Quite expensive considering the facilities offered.
Review 122:Convenient location close to the airport. Standard room and facilities.
Review 123:I was double charged for room service. I contacted the hotel numerous times to get a refund and no one ever replied back to me :(
Review 124:Valet parking not necessary
